If you are looking for great coffee without attitude or arrogance this is your place. Basic food options, including gluten free bagels and sandwiches, all good. La Marzocco espresso machine, friendly staff, and great espresso beverages.
This spot serves the best coffee + expresso milkshake. In terms of food, I've only tried one sandwich and quite enjoyed it. I wish they accepted other forms of payment apart from cash/debit though.
What a cute little spot. We always drive past, and I finally got the chance to pop in for a coffee date today. I opted for a soy earl grey tea misto and it came in such a nice big cup - pretty much a bowl!! It was so delicious and just what I wanted. My friend had a latté and a cinnamon bun, which looked delicious! We stayed for a while and really had a lovely time. Everyone is really friendly, even all the other coffee-goers! Keep in mind, they only do cash or debit, no credit. Will definitely keep it in mind for future coffee dates!
Cafe Beano is a quaint and local cafe frequented by locals, and my first impresion was that it reminded me of retro diners in the 60s movies. They have a lot of drinks to offer, and cater to vegans too! When you order to stay, they serve your coffee in what is essentially a soup bowl! My soy latte was good, but not the best in Calgary. The cafe has a retro and chill atmosphere, which is perfect to read a book or catch up ith friends (they have Wi-fi). There aren't a lot of outlets, so I wouldn't recommend working here if you have a laptop that needs to be charged.

Between the beautiful, laid back baristas, to the coffee and food, I would reccomend Cafe Beano to anyone who is looking for a nice morning, afternoon, or evening location to enjoy a spot of food, or exceptional coffee.
The prices can be high with food, however. You are recieving what you paid for in flavour.

Enjoyed a yummy Vietnamese coffee here last Sunday. My lady and I wanted to spend some time reading, the music was a little too loud for this. It also closes at 10 on Sundays - the barista says that they will be closing at 10 for the duration of the winter. Great place for coffee, despite the noise!
I wouldn't say the service is great, but I love the coffee and tea there so much. And the baked goods.
If you haven't, try the London Fog - they are the best in town.
Great coffee shop on the Beltline! I am in love with their hot chocolates and steamers! Loving the modern hipster feel you get from the atmosphere.
Caffe Beano is a local hotspot of caffeine enthusiasts and casual coffee drinkers alike. With a busy atmosphere, friendly staff, and a wide drinks menu, it is always an easy option for grabbing a drink on the go, or spending the afternoon coffee break people watching. One of my favourites has got to be the Vietnamese coffee. Prepared with condensed milk, if offers a nice balance between the sweetness of the milk, and the strong ground of the coffee behind it. Definitely worth a try!
I'm no hepcat and I'm pushing 60. But when I'm at Beano, I feel like I'm one of the cool kids. This place has got such a great atmosphere. Filled with young arty types and your usual older coffee shop crowd. As for the coffee, it's always hot, full bodied stuff. Real gourmet if you ask me. The hot chocolates are fantastic and so are the milk shakes. Best to come by on a cold winter day when you're feeling a little blue. Beano's coffee will pick you right up.
I came here on a Sunday and it had a great vibe. Love the Hot Chocolate here. Definitely recommended for anyone to visit this place out!!!
Beano is one of my favorite coffeshops in Calgary. Very hipster looking place. I love the vibe. The service is fast and their drinks are awesome!
I love Caffe Beano! Best coffee shop in Calgary for sure. I almost feel like I shouldn't write this review so less people will know about it but then I feel like it's almost a sin to not share such a lovely place with others. It's also quite difficult to hide a place like this when it's right off of 17th ave.
Everything I've had at Caffe Beano has been good. I regularly get the americano but we've also had the milkshake, ginger hot chocolate and tea mistos - all which were awesome. Their baked goods are also good, I love their cookies.
The staff is always friendly and very quick - even though the line for your drink may be long, I find that they are always very fast at making your drink, without sacrificing quality! I wish I lived close by so I could get a drink every other day :)
I wrote this review for Yelp more than a few years back and I still feel the same way about Beano. Best cafe in Calgary, don't be intimidated to try even with all the hipsters outside ;)
Always busy and service can be very slow but damn do they make a good coffee. Muffins, cookies and scones are yummy too. Hard to find a place to sit but great to get a coffee and wonder 17th.
My favorite cafe. I just started going there avidly a couple weeks ago, I love their lattes and most of all, the espresso chocolate milkshake! Caffe beano really sealed the deal when I went there late one night and they were bumping hiphop. Wutang and a vanilla latte !!!!! Caffe beanos atmosphere game was strong! Life doesn't get any better then that! It's the simple things..... (service could be better though)
Best coffee in Calgary. Always amazing.
Good coffee & savoury scones!. Within a 2 km radius, this place serves the best coffee. The savoury scones are soo good, albeit they're expensive and only served on weekends after 10am, but having them once in a while is a delectable delight. The downside is that this place is usually crowded.
Latte love. And hot chocolates are a must! Cool place to hang out late at night too!
Love it. Awesome place. Best social coffee house in calgary. Many types of people here. Service can be slow but its a laid back place. Espresso float is heaven and the lattes are awesome. Great place to sit at night outside and just take in the different people. Panhandlers are frequent but non aggressive.
Good coffee. The service isn't always the best and on weekends there are long lines but it is worth it for the coffee, milkshakes, and hot chocolate. Beano has the best hot chocolate in the city made with callebaut chocolate. They also make really delicious chocolate and espresso milkshakes.
Classic Calgary Cafe. Service is hit or miss, usually hit though. Any drink will be great, hot vietnamese, and mistos in particular. The milk shakes are the best in the city, try chocolate-espresso. Great place to people watch, and see a mixed crowd. Happy they don't have wi-fi or the hipsters would never leave.
Mistakenly ordered a Vietnamese coffee thinking it was made like a traditional Viet coffee. It's not. But when I was surprised with what I received, and notified the barista that I couldn't have dairy (or much of it), he was quick to offer me something else. Great customer service!
Love love love.... By far the best coffee I've had in Calgary served in European coffee bowls. The pastries could be better...but the coffee - a house blend from Fratello Coffee Roasters - is absolutely wonderful. $4 for 16 oz - it's priced right too!
Mom Who Needs Coffee. Haven't been to Cafe Beano for almost a year I reckon. I loved it then and I happily remembered how much as I reminisced to hubs about the yummy taste of the coffee when we stopped in after dinner last evening.
I love everything about this little cafe...from their previous alliance with partner Janice Beaton (I was told last night she has it sold again) to their commitment to local and organic products where ever possible, support of community and recycling. I've only ever tried the baking & the coffee and loved every minute of it.
Unfortunately I do not get down to the red mile very often...but when I do Cafe Beano is on my hit list.
The coffee is really good & the Vietnamese tea was amazing.
No frills, great coffee.. This place has really amazing coffee, they also serve fresh pastries and scones from sidewalk citizen bakery everyday. I have to admit the interior of Beano is kind of drab, but it's always busy, and their crowd makes for some interesting people watching.
Let's go for coffee!. Very nice coffee, strong and fresh, very well worth the value. baked sweets were just ok, interior needs a little more polish, busy and crowded most of the time.

The love of my life. Beano is my second home. Love it. I love everything about it and most importantly they have AMAZING coffee. Never leave me beano. NEVER!
Great for people watching. Good lattes, reasonably fast service even when there is a long line. Pastries and sandwiches are good. For breakfast, the cream cheese bagle with tomato or cucumber is a simple and refreshing choice.
Big improvement!. Janice Beaton has really turned this place around from a place that coasted on charm to an actual coffeehouse. Their espresso roast is too dark but it's nice to have that option sometimes. Amazing sandwiches.
Super huge mocha to stay @ Cafe Beano (aprox $3.75). Look at the size of it! I think there were several shots of espresso in this!
I had never been in this quaint cafe before, but I was in for a treat. They were just pulling some ginger cookies out of the oven, so the entire restaurant smelled of Christmas. I ordered my usual; an Americano Misto, and it was
We had a great coffee date at Beano. We all had the YYC Hot chocolate, which was amazing.
We all tried different food and snack items. Everything was fresh and delicious (totes try their bagels).
Friendly service.
My only complaint is I wish they took credit cards.
I’ve been a few times now and it’s always a good experience! Staff are friendly and it’s overall just a feel good, diner style cafe! I tried the yyc hot chocolate fest seasonal hot chocolate, which is a matcha mint hot chocolate! It was so good! Worth a try before hot chocolate fest is over!

Amazing Cafė Mocha here! It is served in a proper bowl, hot AND has ACTUAL CHOCOLATE shaved right on top! They really hit the mark on serving a chocolaty delight!
The layout of the actual café is unique. It is chopped up so it offers a variety of seating locations to have a private conversation.
Unfortunately it is impossible for anyone with mobility issues to come inside and stay. There are stairs everywhere here right from the entrance.
As long as you are able bodied, you will enjoy it here!
This place has stood the test of time, and has been open for 30 years for a reason. They have a created a social place to enjoy a good cup of coffee and some good desserts. I appreciate their compliance to the COVID mandates. I recommend trying the Vietnamese style latte, it is my go to.
Items I tried today:
- YYC hot choco: I personally dont like matcha taste so this is not the right one for me
- Vietnamese ice coffee: as a Viet, I am suprise that it's taste ways better than I expect. Not so many western coffee shops serving Viet Coffee, you must try if you want something new.
