Review Thai Sa-on Restaurant - Calgary

Very nice food and ambience. We tried the pad Thai and cashew chicken both of which were very flavorful. We also got the fried banana dessert with ice cream and the owner was generous enough to give us an extra piece as we were 3 sharing our dessert. The owner is very humble and friendly.

Try their Pad Thai and black pepper fish! It was really good šŸ˜‹ We also got the red and green curry but I didn't enjoy those as much. It was a bit too spicy for me and the chicken was kind of tough Loved all the Thai artwork hanging in the restaurant as well!

Let me start with the good. The ambiance of this place is very nice, looks like a very relaxing place and the vibes are great. The server was very attentive and kind too. Oh and the Thai Ice Tea tastes great as well! Now for the "not-so-good": The chef messed up my roti, pretty bad. I ordered a roti with ice cream on top; what I got is the roti "bread" with no banana nor condensed milk, just ice cream "inside"!!! I don't know how the chef could have possibly thought that I'd like the banana and condensed milk replaced with ice cream, but it was terrible. I was surprised at the end to see that the bill says: $8 for roti and $5 for ice cream... Like that terrible mess of an icecream ball inside fried bread actually cost me $13. The cashew chicken was also too spicy, even though the menu only shows one šŸŒ¶ļø; cashew chicken is one of my favorite dishes of all time and I never had it this spicy from any other restaurant before. To be fair, my experience was ruined because of the roti mess up, if it were only for the spicy cashew chicken, I would have given it 5 stars and ordered "less spicy" cashew chicken next time. So I'm giving it 3 stars for now.

Very interesting decor inside the restaurant. Good was pretty good, highly recommend the Black Pepper Fish and the Pad Thai. The curries were just okay.

Such a beautiful experience!!! The food: super authentic and very tasty. We had the Jacky Chan, Pad Thai, green curry and swimming sth..can't remember the exact name. But all of it was delicious. The dessert really surprised me! Very yummy: sweet roti, sticky rice with mango and coconut ice cream with fried banana. The owner was the highlight of the night! He came and talked to us, told us old stories about how he came to Canada and gave us history about Thailand and Buddhism. So interesting! I feel so enriched after my dinner tonight all over: inside my stomach, my mind and heart!! Best Thai Restaurant I have been too so far!

Tasty food, on the pricy side, service was good, ambience was inviting, English of servers could be better but was sufficient with a little effort.

This is one of my favourite places for Thai food in Calgary. The food is always super delicious and the ambiance is just cherry on top (or Iā€™d say chilly on top). šŸ˜„ We went there on a busy Friday evening and asked if they could split two dishes into meat and without meat (as I am vegetarian). They said they will try. We had to wait a little but longer but they fulfilled our request. The food was totally worth the wait. The staff is super friendly and try their best to make the customers happy. If youā€™re vegetarian, donā€™t hesitate to ask them to replace chicken with tofu. Theyā€™re super nice.

We are vegan and had red and green curry with coconut rice. Overall it was pretty good. Sauce is less thick, which I like. Coconut rice and green curry could be a bit sweeter for my preference. Best Iā€™ve had in Calgary. Went Saturday, it was busy and only one server. Very nice but understaffed for how busy they were (didnā€™t take our drink order, provided water upon seating, make sure you order a drink right away). Made for a longer than necessary dining experience. Authentic decor and great atmosphere!!

This is the best Thai Restaurant in Calgary bar none. Great wines and the owner does not gouge like so many other places in town. Lovely owners.

Consistently voted as one of the top Thai restaurants in Calgary and for good reason! There were 7 of us and we each ordered a dish plus dessert. Worked out to ~$25 per person.<br/><br/>Each dish is full of rich flavor although I do think the dishes could be spicier but that's a personal tolerance level.

This was a really good Thai place and was very Authentic including its Decour and food that was provided, I had the Chicken Pad Thai which was on of the best i have had. Strong Reccomendation for this place

I've been to this restaurant a couple times and unfortunately both of my experiences were very disappointing. First off, the restaurant only has 2-3 people working on a Saturday night ( pretty sure my waitress was also washing the dishes in the kitchen). Expect to sit for at least 15 mins before you are even acknowledged. Half the items my friends and I ordered from their menu were "sold out". It takes approximately 35-60 mins to get your food - I wish I was joking, but make sure you eat before youĀ go because you will most certainly be waiting for a LONG time!! Food is bland, diluted, and portion sizes are TINY!!!!!! This place is WAY too expensive - not sure how they are getting away with it! Stick to Thai Express.. im serious!

With one of my closest friends back in town, we had to meet up after he landed. We are always down for Thai food so we decided to go to Thai Sa-On. Coincidentally, the night we went Sam, the owner, was also there too. Huge thank you to Sam who hostedĀ us an amazing dinner. We didnā€™t know what was coming as Sam took charge of what we were going to have for the night so it was quite interesting.

I had heard lots of great things so I decided to go for lunch. My only negative, which greatly affected the experience, was that the service was extremely slow. It was almost an hour from when we were seated to when we got the food. Menu offerings are a good variety of dishes. We had two curries and pad see ew and all were piping hot and delicious when they arrived at the table. I don't know if the slow service was due to staffing issues or the lunch rush. I would be willing to go again for the food and hope for quicker service.

Wonderful restaurant! Nice decor, friendly service, amazing food! Will definitely be back! Best Pad Thai I've had outside of Thailand. Very authentic!

Simply the best Thai restaurant in Calgary. They have a huge food menu with interesting selections and flavour combinations for pretty much any palate. Affordable prices and portions so big it is hard to finish them at once. Quiet ambiance and attentive service. Lot's of decorative items that could probably tell interesting stories. The only little disadvantage is parking, but hey, this is downtown. One of my personal favs in Calgary

Ridiculously overpriced for the portion size... Also embarrassingly mediocre food. Never again.

Best Thai in Calgary. In a city of Vietnamese food, it is actually hard to find good Thai. After trying 3 or 4 pretty bad places, I finally found Thai Sa-on. The food is amazing, not greasy or salty like some places, but just very flavorful and fresh. I have had several noodle dishes, the red curry, and a few soups, and everything has been perfect. I really recommend the veggie noodle dishes, but the curries are excellent too. The interior is also very cool and not tacky like other Calgary restaurants. The servers can be a little confused, but they are very kind and accommodating, so it's worth the wait.

Love this place!!!!!! It's .... Love this place!!!!!!<br/>It's a must try and see, his artwork is fantastic!!!! <br/>Wish I could eat there everyday!!!

Amazing in Every Way. Everyone at my work RAVES about this place and I was lucky enough to try it for myself for the first time today. EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS IN EVERY WAY. The restaurant was beautiful on the inside and the manager recognized my coworkers right away as they go there often. The menu is HUGE but my coworkers suggested we let the manager order for us as they assured me they've tried everything and it's all delicious. I am a vegetarian so I had yellow curry tofu on spinach and another mixed vegetable dish on a mouth watering bed of coconut rice. Best tofu I've ever had. I plan to eat here often.

Oh my gawd .... ... per another reviewer's review, I decided to have the Thai Sa-on special: whole deep-fried fish with cilantro. This was the most amazing thing I've eaten in a long time. The flavor was quite mild, and the texture was unbelievable: perfect crunch on the outside and tender on the inside. I started with a fork and knife, but quickly proceeded to using my hands. I felt a bit rude doing so, but was happy and relieved when the manager stopped by and said, "That's the way to eat it!" and shared a story about watching a Canadian family eat KFC with forks and knives (which took forever and looked ridiculous to him) while their family dug in with their hands. After finishing my fish (I ate everything there was to eat on that fish, and then some - even the bones that were cooked enough to be crunchy), I thought, "Was that $25 worth of happiness?" and responded, "Yes, yes it was. In fact, I wish there were 2 fish" and proceeded to reminisce about my experience of eating the fish for about half an hour. "Good fish" or "freak-of-a-reviewer", you decide.<br/><br/>My husband and I also shared chicken satay for an appetizer (chicken was moist and flavourful, and you can never go wrong with peanut sauce), and vegetables in peanut sauce. Everything was awesome. It was pricey, but worth it. Also, the decor is beautiful, though they keep things pretty dark. It's actually very relaxing.

Always delicious.... Can't say enough about the food here, always delicious, always has great wine, love that My office is near by. Great work Thai Saon!!!!

Fantastic food, good service!. The dishes we ordered were delicious and the service was attentive. The Jackie Chan beef dish (#41) is incredibly savory and was the favorite dish of the evening - keep in mind it's supposed to be served at room temperature as the flavors are brought out the cooler the dish gets. My only complaint would be with the size of the portion, but certainly wouldn't stop me from ordering it again... in fact, next time we'll probably get 2 orders.<br/>The whole deep-fried fish (#95) is fantastic - it takes a little work but is so worth it. <br/>The Pad Thai (#105) is delicious and just what I had hoped it would be. <br/>Note that one order of the lovely coconut rice is enough for at least 2 or 3 people. I would go back again and again based on this experience.

Best Thai in Calgary, hand down. May be more expensive, but clearly worth it

Thai Sa-On. My family and I used to go to this restaurant quite often for our Thai cravings, but somehow stopped going about 2 years ago. Tonight, we had some friends in town who wanted some Thai food to cap off their wonderful stay in our wonderful city. What a big mistake that was and now we totally remember why we stopped going 2 years ago. We made our reservation for 6 for a Friday night and was astonished to see the place 2/3 empty. something didn't seem right. I remember the line up and long waits at the front door. Somehow the owner's wife had always managed a smile and greet us as old friends. tonight, we had none of that. My wife mentioned that she didn't remember seeing the owner's wife 2 years ago either. We were both trying to figure why we stopped coming two years ago. Well, we didn't have to wait long to find out. The night was a complete disaster - The restaurant wasn't busy at all but only the waitress was busting her behinds, everyone else was related & were simply socializing. The food was COLD, one dish was missing, food was only half decent. In fact the Pad thai wasn't even as good as the Thai fast food at the Mall's food court. Dishes were REALLY small. It wasn't big before , but it's really small now. they are trying to charge fine dining prices but they don't have the decor investment nor the service to back it up. I think it will be more than 2 years before I will go back again. Basically one of the WORST meal I've had in a very long time and we dine out 5 times a week.
Megan
The food is about twice as expensive as average Thai places but it is FOUR TIMES BETTER tasting so it is definitely worth it. We always have excellent service too.
SandyD
Best in town. We think this is Calgary's best Thai food. The atmosphere is very relaxing, the food is great and the service is always spot on.
Lance
Best Thai food in all of Calgary. Green curry chicken is incredible! Don't be in a hurry as these are real Thais. I went to Thailand this past year and the thais like to do things at a more slow pace. The food is definitely authentic style. Try the red panang curry with shrimp. Just like in Thailand. If you are a fast paced person this is not for you. Amazing food and sweet Thai people but just make time to enjoy the whole dinner process. Must finish dinner with mango and sticky rice! Wine list is incredible and reasonable. Must try!!

I arrived at 11:45 on a weekday. I waited 5 minutes at the door before being seated. Waited another 15 mins without water or even a menu. I got up, left and had a great stir fry next door. I really want to try it but service is a huge thing for me. Doubt I'll give them a second chance from my experiance and the bad review after bad review about horrible service. It wasn't even that busy yet.

Host of Tasting Room radio. I'll let the food and service people battle it out..and hey, if your water glass is empty..get off your chair and walk it over to the closest server..and come back with your own jug.<br/>Just wanted to say..Sam has created one of the finest wine lists to go with his food. You just don't expect to see wines of this caliber in a Thai restaurant..<br/>I'm talking stunning world class wines and vintages.<br/>Sam really does know his wines.. Great guy.

Bad service. Overpriced food, bad service. I wont go back. We went here on the weekend and when our appetizers failed to show up before our main courses the owner/manager told us "you didn't order any appetizers!". Needless to say, the picture of this place being a closed door is fitting.
LOIL
We keep going back!. I do not understand all of the complaints about service and respect. I have never had an issue at all and we go there once a month. It says very clearly on the menu that rice has a charge so why are people complaining about that?<br/><br/>Anyways, the food is very very good, the atmosphere is friendly as well as the staff. Highly recommended. Also, the wine selection is amazing.

WORST RESTAURANT experience of my life thus far. It was like they didn't even want us there so they intentionally ignored us so that we would just leave. And NO it wasn't even busy the night I went. I think there was 4 other tables. But I must mention my table was the only asian ethnic occupied table that night. Food is not bad but the lack of service or no service at all will make me never return and will always not recommend anyone going.

No Reason To Complain. I've been to this restaurant many times and haven't been let down yet. The food is not cheap but it's delicious and well-prepared and if you have any concept of portion control the size of the dishes are more than enough to fill you up and have you carrying leftovers home without breaking the bank. With such a small staff it might take you a moment to get seated but it's nothing to cry about. Be patient and polite and you'll be greeted kindly.<br/><br/>The owner is a kind and thoughtful man and very personable to boot, so don't let people's horror stories throw you off! Regardless of what you look like or what you're willing to spend there you will be treated with respect and receive excellent service at Thai Sa-On. Manners are clearly appreciated at this place and I suspect many of the bad reviewers also have very bad manners.<br/><br/>A dinner for two including appetizers, two main courses (one of which was an entire fried fish), rice, beers and dessert cost around $100 which is exactly what I expect to pay at Thai Sa-On and I was more than happy with the transaction. The service was great, as always and I will be back.<br/><br/>In fact the only unpleasant part of my latest experience there was a table of very loud, very obnoxious "foodies" pontificating a few tables over who spent more time talking about their palates than eating their food.

Shifty service for overpriced food. Originally went to the restaurant because it was highly recommended. We were told it would cost us 25 person for a group of us. It was a bit over what most of us usually spend, but we agreed to it. We received our platters to share. We did enquire if we would get soup. The waittress said it was ok and got our individual request. They ask if we wanted desert, we said yes. They served our individual request. At the end of the meal we got the bill and it ended up costing us 50 per person for the meal. They claimed the soup, and desert was extra. If that was extra, they should of said it from the beginning. The wattress said it would be 35 a person and we got it wrong. For what we were served, I think it was a bit overpriced. I could of gotten my own individual meal for $20 tops. I've been to many Thai restaurants, and it was wasn't amazing.

Sketchy management, mediocre food. Went with a very large group of friends (20+) and although we had a nice time together as we always do :) our experience with the resturant was anything but nice. The food was a disappointment. After reading the reviews I was expecting it to be pretty good, my appy was great and gave great expectations but the rest was half ass, if that. I would never reccomend this place. The service was ok for parts of the night, but then when it came to getting or bill, the managment totally turned around and changed the prices of what they had quoted us as a group, just before we ordered!!! We all ended up paying at least $10 more than what they had said the group price would be!!! We were all shocked!!! On top of that one of us order a single serving of rice to share with the person next to her and then management ended up charging 5 people at that table for the rice!!! It took much arguing to get that fixed on the bills. it took forever to get all the bills taken care of at the end of the evening as there were many many wrong charges. If there was a way to give this resturant a negitive # rating it would get it. It's one thing for food or service to be not so great at a place, hey sometimes *h*t happens, but for out right dishonestly on the part of the management team, well thats just really, really low and poor ethically. Will not be attending here again.

Bad Service. I attended this restaurant with a group of fellow Thai food lovers, there were 20 of us at two tables of ten.<br/>One table ordered off the menu, the other, at the servers suggestion, ordered the same thing based on the servers suggestions from the kitchen.<br/>We are all professionals, and regulars on the restaurant scene. We were very clearly told; 'We will bring you some appetizers, some soup, some mains and some dessert it will be around $25 each".<br/>Firstly there was not a whole lot of food for $25!! When it came time to settle up, the bill had expanded to $45 each. (Excluding drinks)<br/>Everyone sucked it up an paid, including a 15% Tip on the whole total, as the staff seemed quite confrontational.<br/>It was very disappointing as the food was quite good although the portions were small.<br/>After leaving the restaurant the Owner?/Manager came out to the street and yelled at some of the ladies "get lost' "Go cook at home"<br/>So..... I think we will !.... The portions will be bigger for sure, the food will be better, as will the company. Neither will we have to put up with the owners pretentious ranting.<br/>This place used to have a good reputaton, NO MORE!!<br/>Also this was a very well behaved, professional group of food lovers not afraid to throw some money at great food and great service.<br/>Thai Sa -on..you let us down.<br/>Dont go here!

Good food. awful service.. I had heard fantastic things about this restaurant for years. i finally had the opportunity tonight to have dinner with a large group of friends. because we were a larger group and the adventurous sort, we arranged to have a "buffet' style meal, where we would have an assortment of dishes brought out to feed the 11 of us at the table. when we arranged this, we were told that $25/person would include some appetizers, main dishes, etc. during the meal, we also ordered some tom yum soup and were asked if we would like dessert. at no time were we told that the soup and dessert weren't included in the "buffet". although there wasn't a large quantity / variety of dishes served, the food tasted good and the service was pleasant enough. the problems began when we received our bill and realized we were charged a la carte, which, with gst and 15% gratuity, came out to $40/person instead of the $25/person previously mentioned. there were many people at the table who weren't happy about this, but most of us ended up leaving $50/person to cover the beverages consumed as well. a few of us voiced our disappointment to the server for the price/person being misrepresented and, quite frankly, not being served the quantity of food one would expect for $40+/person. as we were all outside, saying our goodbyes, the owner came out and started yelling at and berating us for accusing him of ripping us off. after pointing out that we paid $50 for a meal that was only supposed to cost $25, he stormed off yelling "go cook your own food". quite shocking to say the least. i would have tried Thai Sa-On again despite the bill discrepancy, but after the disgusting behavior of the owner, i will never go back.

How did this place get a good rating?. Decent food, but not authentic. Very over priced. The waitress / staff told the group one thing at the start of the meal and then something completely different when the bills came. Rice was served on the table as if it was free, yet each person was charge. And so on and so on .... Don't go here.

This place is great. I love my Thai food and I think this place has the best Thai food in Calgary. Got the red curry chicken and as per my usual I asked for it extra hot, Thai hot not whitey hot. They really kicked it up a notch but they also brought out some extra chilis for the table so o could add more if I wanted. I was impressed.
Priya
Poor service. The service is terrible. A lady with a child asked for alternate seating, because of the kid (to the side) and the guy there (owner) says to her if you don't like it, you can leave and she did. I thought it was awful to treat a mother and child like that. Never again! And yeah, the food sucks!
John
Really?. I went from really liking this place to disliking it in a few months. The portions are getting so small. The food is getting plainer. The service is not getting friendlier for sure. It's a "no-go" for me now. It's too bad because it used to be better. I'm not even talking about the price... count 1$ per vegetable you'll find in your curry. :(
Jacques
Complete Experience. This IS the best Thai food in Calgary, without a hint of a doubt. Sam's wine knowledge is far better than yours (highly likely unless you're a veteran sommelier), he will find you a unique offering, that pairs incredibly with Thai flavors. Before my first experience at Thai Sa-on I wasn't sold on the idea of bold, big flavored reds complimenting spicy, complex servings. It does...and does extremely well. I am very grateful to have found Thai Sa-on and developed a friendship with Sam. This is a special place.
Chevallier
Not that authentic really. If you are looking for authentic Thai cuisine *clear throats* STOP LOOKING you will never find it in Calgary as far as I know. Thai Sa-on is a foundation of Thai hybrid cuisine in Calgary and probably Alberta. They are the oldest Thai restaurant in this city. Do not get fool by those awards and endorsement (especially the endorsement because it was a part of a program "Thai Kitchen to World Kitchen") try it for yourself, go to Thailand and try the food over there and come back here and taste it. I bet you that if you have a tongue then you can tell.<br/><br/>ALTHOUGH!!! Thai Sa-on is the best Thai restaurant in Calgary PERIOD. If you do not mind about authenticity of the food (you shouldn't since you can not find a good Thai restaurant anywhere else anyway), Thai Sa-on is your choice. Personally, I do not like it. Why? If you said AUTHENTIC, I shall expect 100% well heated coconut milk until they separated not a watery coconut milk stir with curry.
RWood
Over-priced and Americanized. I've only eaten at Thai Sa-on once, and found it over-priced and Americanized. It lacked the authenticity of certain other Thai restaurants in the city, but has a generous helping of pretentiousness.<br/><br/>I would never go back.
Stefan
The food is great! The main courses are all above $15, plus rice $3 that makes it go a bit above the $$ rating.

WORSE THAI FOOD EVER! 2 BIG THUMBS DOWN!!!. I'm from Ottawa, where Thai food hasn't been that great recently, so I was looking forward to some good Thai cuisine in Calgary. Instead, I ended up eating in this restaurant and had the worst Thai food ever! The curry was sooo watery and had practically no green curry paste in it. Like, hello...curry paste costs like 99 cents so why so cheap? I felt like I was eating green water. And the tom yum goong soup had celery in it. I told a native Thai person about the celery in the tom yum goong and they were appalled. If you appreciate and know good Thai food, you will be disappointed! The only good thing we ordered were the soy sauce noodles. If not for that, I would give this restaurant a 1 out of 10. Because of the soy sauce noodles, I would rate them a 3 out of 10. I left that restaurant hungry and what a gigantic waste of money. The Thai food that you buy in food courts taste waaay better!

Friday Night Dinners - Thai Sa-On. After another long week, it's time for another Friday Night Dinner...and keeping with our Thai kick, we paid a visit to Thai Sa-on, one of the best known Thai restaurants in Calgary, and while the food was good -- the service left quite a lot to be desired for a single diner. <br/><br/>Upon entry, there appeared to be about 3 waitstaff handling a number of larger tables. It took about 5 minutes before I was seated, and about another 10 before my order was taken just for drinks. We quickly ordered a drink and a starter soup, the classic Tom yum talay (seafood) <br/><br/>The soup was tasty, and nicely sized for an appetizer. The seafood was a good mix, and rounded out the soup nicely. It could have used a bit more spice, but it was tasty nevertheless. This then, of course, takes us to our main course -- the Crying Tiger steak. <br/><br/>Then main was perhaps the most wonderful piece of steak I've had in a long time -- the spice was right to order, extremely spicy but tender. The rice served up the juices, which was extremely tasty. The portions could have been just a touch larger, but was filling enough to allow room for dessert (mango ice cream). <br/><br/>After the first fill of water, the glass was never refilled again, nor were we asked if we would like a second beer with our meal. The drinks sat empty while other tables (most of which appeared to be regulars, the man who looked to be in charge was chumming it up with a lot of people) had their glasses filled regularly. <br/><br/>For $45 (including tip), it's wonderful food but atrocious service. If you're in a group then by all means, but alone -- you're better off at another place, or ordering take-away. I'm not a hard marker on service most times, but the empty water glass betrays their attitude towards tables for one, and it's a poor reflection on such a wonderful cuisine.
Monica
Good food. The food was authentic and flavourful. I was not too impressed with the service, and the fact that we had to wait for a table despite making a reservation. Luckily it was worth it.

Best Thai hands down!!. LOVE LOVE LOVE!<br/>My fave in Calgary!! Love the food, the wine and Sammy! Food is always amazing and the service is always great. If you want real Thai i Calgary go see Sammy. And always get him to pick your wine!! He knows every bottle!!

Spectacular food! I always order their hot and sour soup to start the meal. Their drunken pork and pad Thai were delicious. They have an extensive selection of wine for the most discriminating of tastes.

This is THE BEST Thai in the city. I have been to almost all the Thai restaurants in the city and there is no comparison.

The best Thai I have had in Calgary. I haven't eaten at every Thai restaurant in Calgary, but I've eaten at more than a couple and the food at Thai Sa-on was the best I have had to date. I've never been to Thailand so I'm no expert, but the food seemed to be very authentic. The menu is huge - almost too big - containing almost every conceivable Thai dish and then some. There is even an extensive vegetarian menu (not just a token one or two dishes, or NO vegetarian dishes like at the overrated Thai Boat) which made me quite happy. <br/><br/>The downside to Thai Sa-on is that the prices are on the expensive side and the portions are on the small side. The 4 microscopic spring rolls for $8 was almost a joke. We had an appetizer, mains, rice (charged extra), and shared a dessert, and we were full but by no means stuffed after racking up a large bill. But it's important to underscore that each and every item was absolutely delicious. I guess you can't have it all... <br/><br/>The previous reviews complain about the service, but we had no problems. I will definitely return to Thai Sa-on, as soon as my wallet recovers that is!
Unjincho
Hmm.... Me and my friend just left the place after 15 min of no aknowledgment from the staff even when they saw us. And it was Thursday night with half the restaurant empty. Unaccpetable service, will never go back there again.

????. Well I was traveling in calgary and looked up different Thai restaurants and this happened to "sound" authentic was in close proximity. Apparently Jacky Chan and company ate here before while filming some movie a few years back, since there are multiple newpaper clippings near the entrance. <br/><br/>I really wanted to eat here but after waiting for 10 mins at the entrance with a party of 6 people, we didn't get seated nor even acknowledged by the staff. I can understand it being a family business and perhaps you are short-staffed or whatever but at least seat your guests and give some acknowledgment. <br/><br/>This was a Saturday night @ approx 7:30pm, they had 1 large table (8 people), 1 medium table (5-6) and 2 small tables. The rest of the restaurant was empty. <br/><br/>I'm glad the Calgary Sun gave them a review stating Jacky's Chan favorite restaurant in Calgary, but if you can't even greet your guests..... I don't really know what to say. <br/><br/>On a positive note I found a different Thai restaurant in Calgary that was quite good and satisfied my cravings.

To me, Thai Sa-on is like a pot of gold assorted chocolate. It is an elegant place with good service where you can bring friends and family to. It offers a variety of choices which can fulfill different peopleā€™s preferences.
Andreasalethechef
The food was very authentic and brought back so many memories of Thailand for me. The flavors in the food, spices and preparation were exactly how I remember them. My only complaint is that on a beautiful day like Friday this dark, cavernous like restaurant might be better suited for a rainy or winter day as no natural light gets in and it felt a little depressing
Wendy
Sandwiched between The Whiskey and Tantra, this Thai restaurant is the best Thai food in Calgary. We ordered the classic Pad Thai, Panang curry chicken, Tom yum soup and coconut rice.
