I took my mom here for her birthday last night. My mom is a bit of a picky eater but they were incredibly accommodating. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to ensure our night was perfect. At first glance the menu seems a bit pricey but once we received our dishes it all made sense. The food is made fresh to order and is absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to try something different or to feel like you have left Calgary for a few hours.
The food here is great, its just as if you are in Morocco. The ambiance inside is beautiful, the staff is friendly and the food is delicious.
I went here with my family and they all had such good things to say, its different in a good way.
I will be back
Went last night . So pleasantly surprised. It was amazing and I am critical. The spices were full, yet delicate. Also liked the ambiance. I strongly recommend. Standing ovation to the chef.
The owner Nabil is so welcoming and he ensures you get the full Moroccan experience. We had the soup, B'stila, spinach briq, lamb tagine with dates, and the chicken fasse was to die for!!!!! Finished off with dessert and the most amazing tea. I will definitely be back.
Our experience here started off a bit oddly, with the server seeming put off by the fact that we reserved using open table, with a groupon. Though he said he'd "make an exception", despite their groupon not saying anything about not booking through open table, and the fact that we included our groupon information when booking. Plus, they weren't incredibly busy. There were perhaps three other tables there dining.
However, the food was all delicious. We'd read reviews about people leaving hungry, but we both were quite satisfied. We started out with two harira soups, which had delicious flavor, and for our 2 appetizers, we chose the merguez and shrimp briq, which were both delicious. As our mains we split lamb kabobs with couscous and the lamb tajine. My boyfriend was a bit nervous about eating with his hands, but a fork and knive were supplied without even being asked. Dessert was baklava and something else similar to it, and both were tasty. We finished the meal with morroccan mint tea, which was a nice touch.
We did end up getting over charged for our alcohol, we discovered later. Our groupon was supposed to include two glasses of house wine, which I drank while he ordered three beers, Our bar total came to $46 so I definitely think we were charged for everything.
But, that being said, we will be back, and the value provided from the groupon was good. Just be careful that they don't sneak alcohol charges that are advertised as being free.
Went for dinner here tonight and it was my first experience with Moroccan food. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by our very friendly and attentive server. The atmosphere was cosy and the room is set up very nicely if you were to go with a larger group. The food was great, very nicely spiced and you could tell everything was made with care. I would go back to try some more of their menu! Thank you!
Our waiter was the store owner and he was super friendly! Went out with my girlfriend for a date, and we bought the Groupon so we received a 5 course meal. Starting with the soup, which was absolutely awesome. Then had the salad, third course was a split appetizer (Which was delicious!!), our main entree was superb. We opted to get a plate each of something, then share it. Our dessert was so awesome we ordered a second round! Make sure you drink some Moroccan Green Tea at the end of the meal, really great way to finish your meal. Overall, great atmosphere, we were the only ones in the restaurant alongside side some other people. The portions may seem small.. But after you finish all your courses, you feel extremely satisfied!! Awesome service and awesome meal, will recommend to everyone and will definitely visit again.
First visit to the Moroccan Tent was completely spontaneous and a wonderful surprise. The location is not hard to find and the plaza where located had ample parking. First impression when entering was that we had departed and arrived in Morocco. We were greeted by Nabil (sorry if spelled wrong) who was a gracious host. He sat us down into one of the most comfortable booths I've ever sat in screened in and pillows everywhere you get the feeling of comfort and relaxation.
The menu is good, offering a selection of Nabil's mothers recipes and Moroccan classics. We started with the harira soup and it's classic presentation along with exotic yet comforting flavours. It is dairy free, lentils and chickpeas and other vegetables in a tomato broth which is slightly spicy but nothing to fear. We had lots of questions about the menu and Nabil was constantly checking with the cook to see if he had added dairy to any of the recipes and was really attentive and willing to compromise to meet customer alergy/dietary restrictions. We decided to share the lamb kebab which Nabil had ordered with a grilled vegetables and salad instead of a dairy laced couscous. The kebab platter looked and smelled amazing. First bites the cooked zucchini salad was out of this world though I found it a little too oily, I'm sure that could be reduced. The chopped vegetable salad was wonderful and reminded me of my mother in laws chopped salad, which is a good thing. The lamb was wonderfully seasoned, however it was tough and at $22.00 I thought the portion was on the smaller side though acceptable.
We decided we will definitely go back and we will support Nabil's restaurant and recommend to our friends and family who want to experience an exotic dining experience without requiring airfare.
Had dinner here on the 21 of October. We have eaten at the other Moroccan restaurants in Calgary and I will say this one definitely compares or out does the rest. We were a group of 6 with 2 being 15 year olds. We found the service excellent and food was excellent as well. We had the royal Feast and were more than happy with the quality and quantity of food. We all thought it was decent VFM. This place is on our return list for sure
Great atmosphere and authentic food.. Wow, wow and wow was all we could say when we walked in. The inside looks and feels like a moroccan tent. James warmly greeted us and introduced us to the dining experience. We chose the Royal Feast for 3 and we did feast! Our meal began with Harira soup, it was really lovely, the spices were delicate and flavourful. I don't do cilantro but I definitely couldn't taste it in this soup. Next course was a moroccan salad; carrots covered in cumin and raisins, tomato mix and corn. I did the authentic moroccan experience and ate the whole salad with my hands. The next dish was B'Stilla for two and Briq of Shrimp. The B'Stilla was the highlight for me. Both dishes are phyllo pastry with stuffing, the B'Stilla contains chicken, eggs, onion, cinnamon, ginger, saffron, and crushed almonds covered in sugar and cinnamon. The main course was a mixture of meats (shrimp, chicken, merguez (sausage) and beef) with root vegetables and couscous. The final treat was warm baklava and almond bricks. We really enjoyed the meal and experience and will go back again, this time to have the tajine. Be aware, the feast does cost.
Love this place! The food, service and atmosphere are top notch. It's not fast food... You take your time. Very enjoyable experience. :)
I would recommed this place to anyone looking for a unique dining experience. It's definitely on the pricier side but I believe worth the money. First off, the food was delicious and plentiful. We ordered the "royal feast" wich comes with a little bit of everything. The starter soup and sald were fresh and appetizing. The true highlight of the meal was the chicken pastry called B'Stilla, a sweet and savory snack. The main course was a Tajine filled with couscous, perectly cooked vegetables, lamb, chicken, shrimp and an amazing merguez sausage. The meal was finished with some of the best baklava I have tasted. The food was great but the service is what made it an amazing experience. It was some of the best service I have had, altough my wife and I being the only people at the time probably helped the service be a little more personal. If I have only one small critique it was the proteins in the Tajine were slightly overcooked, but easily over looked with the great flavours.
Birthday Dinner. Straight to the point: our dinner was delicious! We had a group of 8; 6 of which had never had Moroccan food before. Plenty of food!
Detailed: We were seated and provided with a towel, our server was pleasant, she poured water out of an ornate silver jar to wash our hands-- Moroccan custom :) She asked if there was anything we needed for my 7 month old son to make sure we were comfortable. We were entertained by a lovely belly dancer who came over to converse with us after. .
Our favs were the b'stilla, Moroccan salad and the couscous royal. The chef Nabil was awesome and very hospitable! Knowing it had most of our first time, he came out to make sure we were okay and personally thanked us for giving them the chance to provide us with a Moroccan Experience.
Our family of four really enjoyed ourselves. The tagines are really good; so much flavor. The server is very helpful and friendly. As far as prices go you need to compare apples to apples. And they are cheaper than the sultans tent. We will definitely be going back.
What a gem! The atmosphere was great, the service fantastic, very friendly, and the food was amazing.
Went last night for dinner with my wife just to try somewhere new and it was amazing. Owner talked with us for quite some time and he was super friendly.
Will definitely be going back again soon.
A delicious exotic feast! Four of us enjoyed the multi-course dinner with a nice selection of tagines and couscous as well as soup salad appetizers (the b'stilla was especially tasty) Arab desserts and mint tea, seated on cushions in a Moroccan tent. A nice night out. So surprised to find something like this next to a takeout pizza shop in a strip mall. The owner used to run the Moroccan Castle in Kensington and knows how to do it right.
Finally, something unique in the suburbs!. I went here with 4 friends for a birthday last week. We wanted to try something different and authentic but didn't want to make the drive down town.
When we walked in we were warmly greeted by the owner and our server. The restaurant is cozy but had real character. Our server was new, but made up for being a bit green with her warm personality and sense of humour. You could tell she genuinely cared about our experience and went out of her way to make sure it was positive.
The food is very flavourful and you can tell it's made fresh. It takes a little longer to prepare then some mainstream restaurants but is certainly worth the wait. Some of the dishes were items I wouldn't normally choose but I was pleasantly surprised with how nicely the flavours complimented each other.
The best part of the night was probably the belly dancer. She was very interactive and had all the customers up dancing. She performed for probably 20 minutes and it was very entertaining.
Going to the Moroccan Tent was definitely an experience, rather than just a meal. I highly recommend.
Yummy so Yummy. Today for a birthday dinner I wanted to go some where new so we looked online and found "Moroccan Tent "got the address and went. I'm so happy we went, it was beautiful on the inside and the food is so yummy, I can't wait to tell all my friends and family ...... Amazing staff , smiling and so nice and the food to die for.
Absolutely Love this Place!. Moroccan Tent has become one of my favorite places to eat in all of Calgary. First there is the food - delicious, hearty, mouth watering, savoury and filling. Then the service - always friendly, welcoming and exceptional! Now the ambience - this is a beautifully decorated and designed space with lavish comforts straight from Morocco. I just feel a sense of home eating here and would recommend this hidden gem to anyone and everyone. It's a MUST try and a MUST return to!
So delicious. Excellent service, very friendly and attentive even if it was only her second night. Try the b'stilla! It's sweet and savoury and aromatic and wonderful.
In the mood for something different.... It's not often that both adult kids are home at the same time, so we decided to do something different, somewhere quiet; something other than pub food and Moxies-type food. Also, I didn't want to venture too far from home and I'm all for patronizing local business. I had heard that the Moroccan Tent had opened in the Douglasglen area and we decided to give it a try. I had never had Moroccan food before, but the kids had. My daughter warned me that we would be invited to wash our hands in the traditional way before and after the meal -- food is usually eaten by hand (fortunately for me, owner Greg brought us utensils without asking). Husband and son had an alcoholic beverage, and my daughter and I shared a pot of Mint Tea -- absolutely delicious. We shared two appetizers, Briq of Shrimp and Briq of Merguez...SO good! These are both wrapped in phyllo pastry, so how can you go wrong. The Merquez is a spicy lamb sausage, and I will be back for that alone! Entrees are basically "tajines" and couscous dishes. I went for the couscous with lamb -- melt in your mouth lamb, and wonderful sweet and savory flavours, nothing was overpowering, which was my fear; I thoroughly enjoyed it (and took half of it home). Everyone else had various tajines, and they all agreed that it was excellent, beautifully cooked, wonderfully flavoured. As we pondered dessert (all of us not wanting too much), Greg offered to bring us a plate of various baklavas; they were warm and delicious, exactly what we were after. I haven't even mentioned the presentation, which is a huge part of the Moroccan dining experience. Exotic decor, beautiful dishes, unhurried and knowledgeable service. This place gets two thumbs up, from both the novice, and the knowledgeable. We ended up spending about $40 per person (there is a special per person that equals about the same)... in our opinion, a perfectly reasonable price for a very enjoyable evening.
Excellent Moroccan Meal. Had a fantastic meal with friends at the Moroccan Tent tonight. A very enjoyable feast with course after course of mouthwatering Moroccan cuisine. Very nice decor and excellent service. We left feeling full and satisfied! A gem in the suburbs!
