I order from this place on the weekly. You don't know what fresh is til you eat here because this place is fresh AF. Everything is money. Bring all your friends except the ones that die from peanuts because the peanut action here is real don't disrespect until you drive a #31 B in ya. Get a fresh squeeze orange slushy on your way out if you wanna bypass flavour town for flavour city. 12/10
Food was delicious, fast, reasonably priced and staff was lovely! Beef Sate was awesome.
Best food in town and the best customer service. They are very careful to ensure food is safe for my celiac girlfriend. They are our favorite.
This place is great! The service is always quick and the food is consistently fresh tasting and amazing! Good value as well. We eat here at least once a week if not once every two weeks!
31 B large... Oh. My. Good gracious me!! Best thing ever!! I go at least once a week to get my fill!!
Very Pleased with the new look inside this restaurant, and the menu. We will be visiting again
This is a great restaurant - so clean, the staff are really nice and accommodating and the food is really good. There are only 2 Vietnamese places I go to in Calgary - one is Van Son and the other is Lemongrass (the one near 17th, NOT the one by Chinook)
I have been to Every Vietnamese restaurant in Alberta, and there is no place that compares. The largest most diverse menu, the flavouring in the soups, service/staff.......It is all incomparably the best Vietnamese restaurant in all of AB.
They cater to your likes, spice things down for kids.....I just cannot stop talking about how great this place is. Since finding it, happy accident, I usually have lunch at least twice a week. If I could I would eat there 3X a day, every day, and the best part is the menu is so diverse I wouldn’t get sick of the “same things”.
Worth driving too, FOR SURE.
This is probably my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in town. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful, and service is always quick! Truthfully I almost always order the same couple of things, but myself and my friend/family have always been happy with our meals and the service!
So sad this place doesn’t do delivery anymore :( I first found this place on SkipTheDishes as it was very highly rated. Probably the best bun bo hue I’ve ever had! Service is always amazing and food is consistently good.
Excellent gluten free options. Definitely the best Vietnamese food experience we’ve had in Calgary. The portions are pretty decent sized as well.
Best pho in the city for sure. Their gluten=free is actually gluten-free as well which is awesome. It is one of our favourite restuarants in the city by far. Great service, great food and nice atmospher.
The soup is awesome with nice meat, lots of veggies and not too salty. Subs are huge, tons of meat and great flavours. My husband had the lemongrass vermicelli and said it was one of his favourites!
LOVE this place. They are super friendly and totally willing to make adjustments and modifications - I always modify my meals and they never fuss about it. I love that they have gluten free options - especially gluten free spring rolls! The food is delicious and unlike lots of viet places you can actually identify the meat and you can tell they use quality products. Definitely my go to viet.
I find the pho there rather tasty, you may want to add some more sauté... if you like it spicy. Chicken is real sliced chicken breasts which is always a treat.
The high point of this establishment is there bun mi lunch specials. Super fast, filling, EXTREMELY tasty and comes with a pop. These sandwiches are off the charts good
Not bad food and good pricing. We got some free spring rolls for lunch which is always nice. Food portions were huge! I had the beef with rice and finished it in 5 mins! Probably one of the better inner city viet places imo. I'll try the pho next time!
Recently have begun to stop by this place since it's near where I've been working and since the last time I stopped by it was renovated. It's actually a nice location and the atmosphere is great for quiet conversation. I have a personal weakness for sate pho which I have tried at many different locations, and this was the first place where I didn't want to add Sriracha or Hoisin sauce, as I thought the flavor was great already. For heat, the thai chili they give you is enough to kick it up a little without changing the flavor, which in my opinion is the best part of this pho. They also offer two different types of sate pho so you can get the kind that you are craving! My personal favorite is the non-peanut sate however.I've tried it multiple times and it does not vary much day to day, which is great because I was already very impressed with the quality of their pho. Additionally, the staff are extremely polite and attentive, and the bubble tea is great too. It comes in those sealed bubble tea containers so it's easy to take it with you after your meal. I would recommend this location to anyone who enjoys pho.
Oh MK DO Nald's
+3.5
This Viet restaurant is just along the highways of 16 Avenue North and very accessible to Bus stop 19, if you are a commuter like me. Since it is Wednesday, I feel like its been mid week and my body needs to be fueled by rice and meat. So I ordered Skewers of Shrimp, Pork and Beef with Fried rice. And Fried Pork Spring Rolls and Jasmine Tea for my drink. While waiting for my order to be served, I envy the other costumers who are souping soundly a big bowl of their Pho Noodles. It looks tasty. So when my order was set in front of me, the verdict begins. The plating was average. The Spring Rolls are crispy but I cannot taste the Pork, it tastes like veggies that is why I'm wondering if they have my order correct. And the main dish, both pork and beef are tender and tasty, but the shrimp was over cooked. The Fried Rice is too oily so for me it is a no no to order it. I love their Tea. So yes, if I will come back here, I will order Pho instead of Rice meals. Since almost everyone ordered Pho, so probably that is their best seller.
My girlfriend and I get takeout from Van Son every Thursday or Friday and have been for over a year now. The vermicelli, sate peanut pho, and subs are all great. The staff is really nice too.
Great Pho and friendly staff... That's all that really matters. Decor is not great, but why wouldn't you be looking at your food? If you get take out be sure to ask for sauce.
This is our new favourite Vietnamese restaurant in the city. Spring rolls are to die for. The subs are amazing as well. Want to try more on the menu. Thanks
First time trying Van Son, the Beef Satay Soup was amazing!!!! Spicy, fresh flavourful! Ordered takeout, everything was hot, fresh and ready to go.
Our favorite Vietnamese restaurant! Every meal is delicious and served quickly!! The service we receive is always friendly and efficient. We recommend all our friends to eat here because we have never had a bad experience!
The good:
Very friendly staff
Large menu with endless options
Nice tasting broth with lots of meat in it
Tasty salad rolls
They've definitely renovated this place since the last time I was there. I found my food all tasty and liked the options :) will go back.
This is my favorite pho in Calgary. Service is always fast and friendly. Food is always great, even when taking soup to go...which isn't the case in many other places.
Came here with a group of 6 later on a Friday evening and we were seated right away. The service with pleasant and pretty quick and the menu had good selection of items. The soups were really tasty and the vermicelli dishes were fresh and flavorful. Will definitely be back!
Been here a few times already and it never disappoints! They have the best spring rolls and pho in Calgary! Also the service is always fast and friendly.
Very welcoming staff and comfortable feeling venue. In love with the Satay Peanut Chicken, and the only reason why I come back is for the peanut broth! Big bonus, I haven't ever felt like guzzling water after my meal because of the MSG.
This restaurant has become a regular lunch time spot for us. We stumbled across Van Son while we were looking for a quick bite to eat at lunch time. We’ve come here a few times now and we can honestly say that the food has been consistently great every time. If you’re looking for a heavy meal that’s going to probably send you to sleep for the afternoon, this place should be your go to restaurant. Portions at Vietnamese restaurants are always notoriously massive, and Van Son never disappoints. I don’t think I’ve ever left without a giant bag of leftovers.
We take out from here almost once a week and dine in from time to time. The beef saute soup is amazing....so amazing we rarely get anything else.
My boyfriend has tried the #40 at the Chestermere location and absolutely loved it. I decided to give it try and it was a curry coco based spicy broth with dark chicken meat and vermicelli noodles. I absolutely enjoyed it!! The broth was served steaming hot, the spice level was perfect (not too spicy just a small kick). The odd thing is they serve this soup with lots of potatoes. Anyway, I would definitely come back for this dish. The only thing was the service wasn't that attentive. They sat us in the far corner of the restaurant and we had to get their attention several times.
This is hands down the best Vietnamese Cuisine, each one of the staff are wonderful and lovely. The food is delicious not to mention their bubble tea is delicious. I love the new renos and I'm happy that the food stayed the same. Would definitely eat here again!
This is a weekly spot for us and has been for almost a year now. The staff are wonderful and the food is fast and tasty! I haven't tried their soup yet surprisingly but their vermicelli bowls are top notch. Also! Make sure you get the deep fried bananas and ice cream for dessert, it s the perfect way to finish every meal!
This is the first time I came to this place :) so far I really like it. The restaurant is pretty big. A lot of pho options with really good broth. I would recommend my friends to go to this restaurant :)
Always great. My fiancè and I come here quite a bit... we love it. The food is always good and the service is great. Highly recommended!
Good Vietnamese spot.. Out of the many Vietnamese restaurants that I have been to, this one is one of the good ones. Good Pho, Good Vermicelli dishes, nice size portions and nice restaurant.
Awesome! Was so happy to tr.... Awesome!
Was so happy to try this new place as it's right by my house. The vegetarian Pho was AMAZING- but why doesn't the veg pho get bean sprouts/basil/lime like the meat pho?! Was really confused about that.
Other than that, the veg spring rolls were on point and once again... that pho. Will definitely come again. Good service, good food.
Van Son first impression.. It's our first visit to Van Son and it's made a strong first impression. Tender meat, nicely spiced and sated food. And the atmosphere is great. Will definitely be returning often.
My fiancé and I were crazy about Vietnam palace. It was a great hole in the wall place with good food and prices and portions. We were anxious about Van Son opening up in its place, worried it wouldn't be the same. But it's just as great! The renovations are really nice with a great color palate and it's very well done. The spring rolls were perfect! Flaky, crisp and tasty! We left feeling so full! Prices are comparable to Vietnam Palace and the portions are just as big. The lemongrass chicken is a great addition to the menu! We will continue to frequent Van Son for the food and the great service! One of our favorite servers is still there too! Best Vietnamese place in Calgary! Trust us, when they were closed for renovations we tried several others that were highly ranked and none compare to Van Son!
Amazing New Vietnamese Restaurant.. I went there for dinner the other day, The service was excellent, The food was great and fast. The atmosphere was the cleanest place i vietnamese place i been to and nice paintings. Love this place.
Veggie options. Really large serving for the price great cheap eats. Really yummy veggie spring rolls on the vermicelli bowl. My partner had wonton soup with egg noodle and it seemed bottomless.
Hands-down my fave Vietnamese restaurant in the city. 99% of the time I'm ordering up a 31B (Satay Peanut Beef Noodle Soup), but every other dish that I've ordered has been fantastic as well. Service is always on point, and the guy who runs it is always super friendly to me.
I've heard that their building is part of a redevelopment project, and I hope they re-open somewhere close. I mean, I'll gladly drive to Chestermere if I have to, but I'd love for them to stay in the neighborhood.
BEST VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT IN CALGARY.
Don't look further in reviews. Must visit.
Best items,
1. Satay Chicken curry Pho soup
2. Mixed seafood satay soup
3. Fried rice 🍚 😋
All items are incredible.
This restaurant satisfies even my taste buds and they are NEXT LEVEL
First time at this location, and was very satisfied with the food! Money well worth for what I've gotten. Will definitely come back here again.
Great service, amazing food. I highly recommend the Vietnamese iced espresso with condensed milk for a refreshing mid day boost. I loved the special vermicelli. I think I found a new favourite restaurant.
