Had a great breakfast today; all the adults agreed the $10 breakfast sandwich was so yummy and great value, service was friendly and quick, the kids enjoyed their kids menu breakfast (at $5 also great value) and they were provided with Boogie Board Scribble and Play ewriters to keep them entertained while we waited. If you haven't tried Ladybug, or haven't been in a while, I highly recommend you give it a try. Happy to have another great option up on the hill, that the entire family can enjoy.
This was not our first visit and certainly will not be our last. From the greeting when we walk in to the delicious lunch item, eggs Benedict (terrific) burger ( best cheese burger I have had for quite awhile, and the strawberry waffle ( great taste and beautiful presentation) drip coffee was great. We even took home some shortbread cookies that melt in your mouth. Very friendly staff. We will be back for sure.
I have been a regular at this restaurant for a number of years and I have nothing but good things to say! The quality of the food and the ingredients are definitely worth the price. The menu maintains all it's staple dishes, like the ham and cheese crepe, the chicken soup and many others. But there are often new things to try too. The coffee and milk that they use are top quality. Although the place is small and may get a little cramped at peek times the staff always work to maintain a consistent flow and a good customer experience. If you're looking for some authentic European cuisine A Ladybug and Café offers both the quality food and the enchanting atmosphere.
I didn't expect to like this place as much as I do. Moving to the suburbs you get used to Starbucks and other chains, but this place is amazing. The pastries are some of the best you can get in Calgary; they do coffee right; their staff are friendly. Honestly, I've never had a single thing about my experience be anything but less than perfect.
Amazing restaurant and chef. They are changing owners today. We are hoping that the new owner maintain the quality and variety of the food and the Yves and family come back to the business with another awesome place after their well deserved rest.
Above and beyond of all the Calgary cafes !! My mom, my dad, my friends and myself love the Ladybug Cafe! We haven't tried the food but their coffees, desserts and pastries are delicious! We were happy to find a cafe with culture of serving coffee properly. The staff is friendly and professional. It's so rare to see the staff at cafes clean and tidy up the tables after the customers leave. We always get to sit at the clean table. I drive 30 km from my house to Ladybug (so 60 km in total) to enjoy their coffee and atmosphere with my loved ones. I'm not willing to drive such a distance for any other cafe in the entire Calgary and area. Thank you Marie and your staff for your business excellence!!
The food is consistently delicious & fresh.
Melissa & all the staff are efficient & courteous.
They make all their customers feel like family!
The Ladybug & Cafe is my happy place! Amazing food, wonderful staff, beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. Whenever I have friends or family members visiting from out of town, this is always my go to place to take them! So thankful to have a cafe like this to sneak away to for some quiet time and a delicious latte
Beautiful buzzing busy little place in Aspen!
Enjoy being here.
It’s a nice little cafe with a lots of different menu located in Aspen.
I was surprised how many different items they offer in that little cafe! They have sweets like cake, baked goods like croissant, and whole bunch of different lunch plates with wide selection of beverages.
I tried their craffin which is a hybrid pastry with croissant and muffin. It was good, maybe a little less flaky than normal croissant and stuffed with cream.
I also tried their ham and cheese savory crepe menu. It was really good, I will probably still go to Suzette bistro for crepe menu but this crepe was really good. It came with a lots of micro green on top and the ranch like dressing did good job marrying the salad and the crepe! I’d love to try their sweet crepe next time.
Also, I tried their chicken and waffle, the chicken was supposed to be Japanese karaage chicken. I don’t know the Japanese style chicken was good with waffle but overall it was good. Their waffle was dense side and it was seasoned very well.
They have so many different stuff, I’ll have to go back again!
My partner and I often go to ladybug when we are on the west side of the city because the food is great. The cashier is almost always the same woman and is a bit abrasive, we often feel rushed even when nobody is behind us . There are fresh flowers on each table and the servers are always warm and accomodating. The crepes and desserts are their signature and the cafe overall has a very European feel to it. The prices are fair considering the quality. We will be back because we love the food.
I'm obsessed with the macarons from here they are so wonderful as well as the cheesecake ! Highly recommend this place ! It's pricey but it's worth it.
Cute place and the food is excellent. I go there for the scallop galette and the goat cheese quiche( so yummy). The down side is that the space is very cramped.
Cute hidden little cafe in Aspen! They have a great variety of baked goods as well as delicious crepes and waffles. I liked the mixed berry waffle and their petite manon cake! The pumpkin pie latte is also delicious but it might not always been in season. Great service as well. I have a weakness for desserts and pretty cakes...
A Ladybug Bakery and Cafe has been in my “food bucket list” and they deliver! For a cafe of this size, the selection of their all-day breakfast and lunch is amazing from waffles to crepes to pastas! I ordered the vegetarian Italian pasta and a soy latte (with latte art), both of which were delicious. Service was smooth and fast, and the cafe is elegantly decorated. My one downside is that the prices are a bit inflated for the portion size ($17 for the small salmon crepe). The cafe is a far but an elegant eatery for your social meets or brunch :)
I love everything about this cute little French inspired restaurant!- with the exception to the price. All the drinks and desserts are crafted artfully and made to perfection. The decor in here is vibrant and makes the place luminous. As mentioned previously, quite pricey for the amount you are getting though!
Gene was starring at some pretty girls:-p no actually starring at the waffles and crepe from nearby customer! It was a bit of a wait for our order to come coz the restaurant was pack with hungry human being. So we ordered some tea and had the same brunch, which is egg Benedict with ham. The Egg benedict has some distinct nice taste. It has some mild sour nice taste. The ham is'nt salty which is a plus. The side hash brown potato was crunchy and tasty too. The matcha tea was warm and mild compare to other matcha tea i had! Perhaps because i ordered 1% milk in it. But over all i enjoyed my Sunday brunch! I'm definitely gonna go back here and try their desserts and waffles!
My girl and I have been to ladybug many times, and plan on going back many more times. The service is great, always fast and attentive.
Prices are on the higher side, but this also keeps out any undesirables. I have been to many coffee shops where people spend hours in a location, either to stay warm or to use their computer.
I see some people were offended by the owner; maybe she is just tired of people that use bad judgement or don't or wouldn't take direction.
Thumbs up to the food, and the owner who runs this business. She has hired a great staff, which is a major acomplishment in calgaries workforce.
I love it unlike a lot of coffee places in Calgary you get good coffee and good baked goods, and ladybug has definitely pulled that off. I would highly recommend A lady bug to anyone.
Good, but not that good. Good place, but not that good compare to some of the other breakfast places...
Over priced for what they served, I can easily think of places with better food of the same or less in price. Worth trying for once in my opinion!
The food here always tastes great!
Flaky pastry: apricot "bun" (unjustifiably boring name) was gorgeous. Small amounts of apricot, but perfect amount of lovely almond meal (like coarse almond paste) and enough powdered sugar.
The Belle Hélène waffle was (as described) a cinnamon waffle with perfectly-ripe pear, chocolate sauce and shavings, sliced almonds, whipped cream and orange slices. So very good. Only potential improvement might be to cut back on chocolate sauce (see pic) so the delicate lovely waffle comes through (I know... Less chocolate, I may have gone mad).
Very enjoyable coffee.
Good friendly service. Clean crisp set-up (made my toddler's chocolate smears all the more visible... Yes, we cleaned up). And for those wondering, there's a change table in women's room. Not a place to bring a screamer or utensil-chucker (mine thankfully isn't... For now).
Great for Sunday breakfast. Not bad, a little pricy but good quality. Went for a Sunday breakfast and it was good
Wonderful place, nice food and people. Pricely though
My family and I LOVE Ladybug! It is a wonderful cafe with excellent coffee, tea, and delicious pastries. It is a real, authentic European cafe. The eggs benedict are the best in the city!
Melissa, who runs the front counter, is delightful and always remembers how we take our coffee. Excellent customer service!

Our favourite for food and coffee. I have read some earlier reviews that I don't really understand. They must be talking about a different place. We have found the Ladybug so friendly and helpful. We return time after time because the food is beaurifully presented and tastes wonderful. You can have a coffee or a full meal and get the same caring service. We were happy also to find a place without televisions and background noises that stop converstaion, in fact the noise you are awate of is that of people talking and enjoying their visit. Like any popular and good place it has its busy times when you have to be a bit more patient but they always handle these busy times with courtesy and it's worth the wait. If you want excellent coffe (that's my wife talking) or wonderful ffood including realy special desserts the Ladybug is certainly worth a visit to find out for yourself how good it is.
Fresh bell peppers, chopped garlic, fresh eggplants and lot o love ;)
I like the food. I also find the staff and owner friendly and accommodating. Definitely expensive and I wish they had kids portions.
One of my favourite places.. Reading some of the more negative reviews here, I find myself wondering if we're talking about the same restaurant, as their descriptions are unrecognizable to me. I've been a big fan of the Ladybug Patisserie since they were at the Curry Barracks farmers' market, but now they're the opposite end of the city from me so our visits there have become a special treat requiring some effort.
Ladybug is simply the best French (OK Belgian) patisserie in Calgary. Their pastries are arguably better than Latruwe's and they carry a wider and more down-to earth selection, reminding me more of a local patisserie in France. Other reviewers mentioned they didn't know what the restaurant was aiming at. It's perfectly simple - they're a French cafe - I walk in there and could imagine I was in France. They do light, authentic, delicious food, beautifully presented, and with meticulous attention to detail, in an informal cafe setting.
Yes, the food is quite pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want a big, tasteless, cheap sandwich and coffee go to Tim Horton's. This is not a place for re-fueling - it's a place to savour good food in the European manner. The fact that Ladybug is usually packed tells you that there are plenty of people who appreciate the quality of the food enough to pay the prices - it's somewhere I go for a treat, not to necessarily eat every day. I would say the prices are comparable to, or perhaps a little cheaper, than at Patisserie Latruwe or L'Epicerie.
The cafe has a large take-out selection of pastries, quiches and croissants, as well as the tastiest chicken liver pate I've found so far in Calgary. The lemon tarts are amazing, and our family are also very partial to their eclaires and the chocolate mousse.
I like to have brunch there, and favourites include their Eggs Benedict and the Croque Monsieur - both utterly delicious and beautifully presented. They pay attention to their garnishes, which really enhance the food rather than serving as plate decoration. Their crepes are to die for. We usually leave with pate and pastries to take home with us. I've always found the service to be friendly and efficient. The idea is to order at the counter and they then deliver to your table, so I'm mystefied by the comments about waiting for service.
Now, to be fair, their one weak spot that I've found is their panini, which are rather bland. However, I think that's just a nod to current fashions - panini are Italian rather than French, but they seem to be rather ubiquitous these days. Why go to a French cafe and order something Italian? Stick with the French food and you'll be delighted.
Decent but pricey. Not my favourite breakfast joint but I may go back. I had the chicken sausage and potato crepe. The sausage was probably the best part. Drinks are over priced!!!!
Great food, prices a little steep.. I don't know about fastpace2000's comment on January 16, 2012, since Ladybug was closed from christmas to January 25th.
I don't know if they have had a change of staff or management since last year, but I went today for breakfast with my gal and had a great meal, fantastic coffee's and good service.
The restaurant is an order-and-sit kind of place with plenty of seating and a nice atmosphere. Prices are a little steep for what you get.
I got the Brittany Crepe ($14.50) which came with a nice baby mixed greens salad on the side, the crepe itself was filled with mushrooms, ham, cheese, an egg and a great bernaise sauce. My partner in crime had the Apple Crepe ($13.50). Accompanying the meals was a latte with a hand-pulled espresso shot and a heart design (coffee art) in the milk ($4.50) and Chai Latte ($4.50). The coffee was comparable to Phil & Sebestian's although I would not recommend this place for coffee on-the-go as they only have one barrister and one espresso machine, which makes getting beverages a bit of a wait.
Overall, the experience was delightful. A $1-2 drop on meal prices would make this place absolutely amazing.
I love it! Great friends, great food! Excellent place for a family or a Sunday morning outing! Great service!
Dedicated to quality. I go early in the morning for a quiet coffee and it is always premium quality and expertly crafted. I pop in to pick up the world's best chicken liver pate when I want to wow guests or indulge on a picnic. I keep a stash of their puff pastry, croissant and baguettes in my freezer.
I appreciate the owner's dedication to sourcing the ingredients from local farmers and to using organic. I am willing to pay a little more and I find as long as I avoid peak hours the service is smooth and more than what I would expect in any other cafeteria setting where tipping is minimal. I hope to return for many years to come.
Amazing food - always! I have been a repeat customer for a couple years, and know that it is not fast food, their service takes a while. Their staff has always been poilite and accomodating, happy to bring water or let my little neice sit while we order our food. The prices are higher tha most other breakfast spots, but so is the quality of the indgredients. Any waffle, crepe, sandwich, or quiche has been hot, fresh, and delicious in my experience. I will definately be going back!
Ladybug has it right always and in all ways. Thank you Ladybug for creating such incredible food in a beautiful space. This is just what Calgary needs. I have dined at Ladybug often and have always experienced delicious food, exceptional service, and enjoyed every moment. The presentation is delightful. Love having the word "enjoy" written on your plate. I also appreciate the organic ingredients. Words cannot describe the fabulous desserts; you have to experience them. Always delightful.
A.Ladybug Bakery & Cafe. I don't often write comments on restaurants, but in this case I would like to compliment the owners and staff of A Ladybug Cafe on the wonderful lunch we had there yesterday. The restaurant was full - as it always is (because IT IS GOOD) but we were served with efficiency and friendliness by the two waitresses assigned to us. We had Goats Milk Cheese on 8 Grain Bread served on a wooden platter which was the best goats cheese I have ever tasted. They suggessted we have a sparkling pear juice with it which complimented it perfectly. I had an americano coffee to finish which was better than ever - aromatic and full bodied. But the best thing about our memorable visit was the staff. So polite and in spite of being so busy, they were always there when we needed something. Our food was served quickly and with a smile. I can't reccommend this establishment highly enough. Tthe owners are always there and greet you personally with friendliness and a willingness to please. It always seems to me that the most important thing to them is that their guests enjoy their food and their visit. Ours was delightful and we can't wait to go back again and try something different.
Fast, friendly service.. Went mid week for a late breakfast, had the strawberry waffle with a french press coffee. Little pricey, but pretty tasty, nice presentation. The service was quick and friendly. Not sure if I would go on the weekend as I can see how it would be busy and crowded. Didn't try any of the desserts but they looked amazing.
Two thumbs up. My wife and I have been patrons of the Ladybug for awhile now and I was quite surprised to see the negative reviews when I finally came to write my thoughts. We love the fresh, organic food made in creative dishes as well as the modern and comfortable interior (good move on getting rid of the tall chairs). The baked goods display is worthy of a visit alone. My personal favorites are the lemon tart (even if you're not a sweets person, you must try this) and the take and bake frozen goods… waking up to freshly baked cinnamon buns equals huge points with my wife.
Yes, it is crowded and the staff are very busy. Is this not an indicator of a great place to dine though, when the masses agree? We've had good service for the most part, but yes, they do need to find a way to accommodate the increasing demand as more people discover their food. (NW location, hint hint). If you're in the market for a quiet place to eat with no line, then just go somewhere where the food is generic concoctions of terrible and the décor is reminiscent of an 80's design disaster. You'll probably find a seat much easier...
For any first timers, try it for yourself. We will for sure be back. Thanks for being original and fresh in such an inundated market of culinary disaster.
Love It. I've read a number of the comments below and my experience has been really good. I love popping into ladybug after school with my kids or early morning for a coffee and breakfast.
I love the coffee {made to perfection} and the food has never disappointed either myself or my children. Actually today I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and it was amazing. I requested my sauce on the side {a personal preference} and my girlfriend who ordered the same wished she had made the same request. Eggs Benedict can be that way tho, the sauce is a personal thing and the amount needs to be determined by the consumer. So, just a lesson learned for my friend.
I find the service friendly and have never been disappointed by the menu. The music is good and the vibe fresh. I love that we have a coffee shop like this in the neighbourhood. My only wish is that it is open every day. I would frequent it more often if that were the case.
FYI, this is my first review so I hope it's been okay. I will get better as I continue.
After several visits, I'm declaring that I like this place only because they do use Hoven farm's organicbbeef for burgers. Last year I would say that their service did leave much to be desired but our last visit proved to be okay. Not great but not bad. They had a better flow of traffic when placing orders and food is awesome and the overall ambiance still is nice after changing a few things operationally - no more high barstools and a better layout of the cafe make it worth a visit.
