Review Moti Mahal - Calgary

Excellent Food! The service was quite slow!! I tried the "Mix Vegetable" and "Mix Veg Platter," both of which were tasty and spicy. I'd recommend it, but I'd also suggest that the restaurant improve their customer service.

Justifies the name. Taste is authentic. We ordered shahi paneer and chicken masala, both were delicious. Staff are very nice and soft spoken.

This restaurant has been a staple for over 25 years. I love it. The food is fresh and very delicious. The service is always friendly and spot on. The ambiance is colorful and vibrant. Excellent energy here. Try if you have not been and you like Indian food. Best somosa in the neighborhood.

Amazing flavor !!!! - noticed people were saying it wasn’t authentic. I believe those people need to reassess your taste in food. Out of all the Indian places i’ve tried in Calgary this has been the best! We ordered 6 dishes for 3 people an array of chutneys and about 4 drinks while we waited for our togo order. Price was $140 for the alcohol and all the food. Portions are smaller but perfect for buying multiple dishes. We were stuffed it filled a massive plate!

One of the best Indian restaurant we’ve tried so far! Certainly in Top 3 in the city! The place gets full really quick at evening so be prepared and reserve ahead of time. There were lots of parking spot outside and it’s really close to 17ave party district. The staff at Moti are amazing and highly attentive to our needs and inquiries. We ordered the Moti Platter, Garlic Naan, Paratha bread and Chicken tikka Masala. Moti platter is basically a mix of tandoori meats (chicken, lamb, beef) with spicy red sauce, served over a sizzling iron plate. It was a bit spicy but Super Delicious!! Best eaten with the Naan bread. Chicken Tikka Masala was perfect too! Not too spicy and best served with extra onion and jalapeños on the side. I also tried their Indian Lager Beer (King Fisher) and it was refreshingly good after a long day! Definitely coming back here!!

I started going to moti Mahal about 25 years ago and the food had always been full of flavour, great ingredients and their sauces were outstanding, I have always ordered their butter chicken along with other dishes and the butter chicken was the best in town. Not so much anymore, tonight it was watery and flavorless. . Hopefully it was a bad night in the kitchen and this is not permanent, I will give it another try in a few months and update.

So, I went there yesterday(23 march). I ordered sahi paneer, garlic naan, masala kulcha, rice, punjabi dhal (daal). To start over, sahi paneer was served cold and less in quantity but price is high. Then, garlic naan it came only one piece of naan. Usually when we go for dinner at Indian restaurant they will give you two pieces of naan. The naan was very thin. Furthermore, masala kulacha seems like frozen kulcha taste. Rice was horrible. It was also cold. Lastly, dhaaal(daal) was not cooked well. It was like they gave us 2days old daal. Overall, the food was not too hot, the spice we need in Indian food was not there, and salt was also missing in everything. I have to say this is my horrible experience in calgary for eating in an Indian restaurant and I wasted almost $50 for nothing. I would say not a single item was good. Will never ever go back again. Sorry to say but you guys totally disappointed us. I think you guys need some professional indian cook and staff to serve people.

It amazes me how many Indo/Pakistani restaurants cater to the least common denominator when it comes to the spice levels in their cuisine. Moti Mahal is a restaurant that goes the whole nine yards in food preparation and then falls totally flat on their faces because their food is severely underspiced to state of being out and out boring. This is the blandest Indian restaurant in the city. You cannot even get your food at Kashmiri authentic levels of heat and Kashmir is not particularly known for being a region noted for extra spicy food. It is among the mildest for India. When I asked for some green chilis, they copped out by bringing me jalapenos which are dead mild in the world of chilis and not even Indian. An authentic Indian restaurant carries authentic Indian Guinea peppers. Then they brought the usual Indian restaurant cop out, a so-called Vindaloo sauce, whatever that was because it tasted nothing at all like a Goanese masala and it was frightfully mild. Next the owner insults my intelligence, albeit very politely, by telling me most of her customers would be in tears with the so-called Vindaloo sauce. Besides, spice is added in the kitchen and not by some concoction labeled Vindaloo sauce that also alters the flavour profile of what you ordered. I never saw Vindaloo sauce served anywhere in India. If you like authentic Indian food with authentic Indian levels of spicing, you will be deeply saddening by the dining experience at Moti Mahal. This is a restaurant that can and should do so much better, but they don't. This is my least favourite Indo/Pakistani restaurant in the city. Interestingly enough, the few restaurants in the city that are owned by Pakistanis, as opposed to Indians, all serve their food without the heat clawed back. So can Moti Mahal.

Sooooo freaking good! Whenever I've Gina for Indian in the past I've never really known what I was getting but this time they were so great at explaining and I felt able to ask questions! We will be coming back again and again!

Our favourite restaurant in Calgary! Try anything and everything, it's all amazing. Wonderful family who owns and runs it too.

We were looking forward to this but we were seriously disappointed. The curry sauce was thin with an overpowering onion taste (the other was tasteless), pakoras were dry and pratha was cold with hard edges. Prices do not equal the quality.

Been many times and it is consistently excellent. The food tastes like your very own Indian Grandmother cooked it up for you...home cooking! Always exceptional!!!

Lovely staff but less than impressed with our take out tonight unfortunately.
