Review Nawab - Calgary

Paige J
The best Indian food is Calgary BY FAR! Everyone who works here is so kind and personable; it is obvious that they care about your experience and want to ensure everything is perfect (which it always is). The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. The food is OF COURSE AMAZING! I recommend starting with the Vegetarian appetizer platter which includes the best samosas I've ever had, paneer and vegetable pakoras, and delicious crispy onion bites. THIS IS A MUST TRY!!! We also ordered butter chicken, Aloo Gobi, chicken Korma, Gosht (lamb) kashmiri, chicken vindaloo (beautifully spicy) and a classic prawn masala. We also got the garlic naan bread and saffron rice. All of this was equally incredible with flavours which were purely unforgettable. The chicken Korma sauce was unimaginably sweet and creamy, like a dreamy dessert. The butter chicken was rich and buttery as you would expect. This is a great restaurant, guaranteed to be a hit with everyone!

Went here for a birthday party and it was really good. Everything was so flavourful! If you like spicy, their Vindaloos will definitely deliver. I highly recommend the Chicken Kashmiri. The nan and coconut rice are top notch. Be sure to save some nan at the end to scoop up the remaining sauce! Portions are kind of small, making it pricier than other places but well worth trying for sure. Dish prices average around $16-$17, nan is under $4, and rice is around $5.

To resolve the mixed reviews given to this restaurant, I'd offer that it does have the best Indian food in Calgary but has minimal staff and can easily get overwhelmed. If you have a large group, I would recommend going at an off peak time. Ordering take out or delivery also works great.

Delicious food, great staff, great atmosphere. Nice and clean restaurant. Portions are smaller than what most people would be used to when dining out, but are very similar in size to what you would find at almost any other Indian restaurant. The great flavours more than make up for the "small" portions, I found the dhal just amazing. Will come back for sure and will bring more family next time. 100% recommend trying this restaurant.

Best Indian food you can eat in Calgary. The owner is very nice and the chef is amazing. Very classy. Highly recommended!! We will be back for sure. If I can give them 10 stars I would definitely do.

Awesome staff, even better food! I live in the NW but frequently make the trip down to the deep SW to visit this place. This restaurant probably belongs DT with its cool atmosphere, stylish touches, and beyond excellent food. You wouldn’t expect this quality of experience from a suburban ma and pa shop, but it’s well worth it to visit! Plus they’ve got some great cocktails and will show every Flames game as the owner is a huge hockey fan and sports enthusiast!

What a great place. The food was amazing but what made it even better was the experience. When the family comes out to visit it makes it even more special. Do yourself a favour and go eat here.

Absolutely Incredible food! Some of the best Indian I have had in a long time. What’s not to love about this place!? friendly staff, top notch food, classy environment with nice music, great view and gorgeous outdoor patio space to top it off. Portion sizes and prices I think are right on the mark

The food is quite tasty. However, I am very concerned about the service. We waited for nearly 15 mins after being seated to receive menus then another 30 mins to get water and take our orders. The food came in a timely fashion and was delicious but once we finished we waited another 30 mins after asking for the bill to receive it. It wasn't busy but I worry that it's under staffed. I think I'll order take out/pick up next time.

The Gosht vindaloo here is definitely one of my favourites! The sauce has a beautiful delicate flavour and a subtle yet satisfying level of spice. I also ordered the prawn curry, aloo ghobi, garlic naan, and saffron rice. All very delicious! I highly recommend the saffron rice. Everything was very fresh!
My only criticisms are that the dishes are quite small and expensive. The decor is very modern but you don’t feel like you’re in an Indian restaurant at all and be prepared for very slow service.
The chef/ owner did make a point to visit every table to chat with his patrons which was incredible and definitely make up for the poor service. It’s very rare to see the chef do that these days but it sure makes you feel welcome and honoured.

Second time to this restaurant. Same as first time, great food and very friendly staff.
Owner/chef personally visits every table to see if you are enjoying your meal.
This is not a fast food dining experience. Sit back enjoy your visit and your surroundings and your guests, preferably without your cell phone.
Food is great, great service. An unhurried visit.

Great, amazing food. Some of the best I have ever had. It was a great evening if you wish a social experience, I definitely would not recommend it for the micky d crowd as you take your time.

Excellent food! We've been coming to Nawab for years and it continues to impress. One of our favourites is the eggplant bartha, but you can't go wrong with anything. Well worth the long drive!

We finally ordered from Nawab. What a disappointment, it took 75 minutes for the food to be ready for pickup. Because of the long wait time, we thought it would be the best food ever, but there was barely any meat, mostly sauce.

For $79 and 75 minutes wait time for 4 dishes only, we would not recommend Nawab.

Unfortunately I can't review this place on the food but I can review them based on their service. According to their website and Yelp, you can order food for takeout, so I went in to order some food to go while I was running errands. I was given a very judgemental look from the waitress when I asked to order food to go and then she went back to talk to a lady who I assume was the manager. The "manager" came back and asked me what I wanted and she asked if I had a reservation. I told her I didn't, but according to their website they have a takeout menu. She informed me that they were busy (restaurant was more than half empty) and that they had many catering orders and couldn't accommodate my order because it was holiday season (it's December 11th). I felt like I was judged at the door and I don't like the idea of such an establishment in a neighbourhood I actually live in. Ridiculous.

We stood at the door for a good 5 minutes before anyone bothered greeting us. After we were seated, we waited over 15 minutes for someone to take our order despite trying to get their attention. The waiters kept looking our direction but avoided eye contact. I finally walked up to the counter with a menu and asked if I could order. The owner said, yes, someone will be with you shortly. I was surprised she didn't get the hint to take my order right then, but I went and sat down anyway. She took our order a few minutes later, strongly suggesting we order some appetizers because it was going to be a while with 5 tables ahead of us (the restaurant was about 75% full). We got big plates 40 minutes after ordering but there wasn't to be any food until an hour and 15 minutes later, just as we were getting up to pay for the drinks and leave.
The food was admittedly quite tasty.
The owner came and apologized for the long wait at the end, saying they have been short staffed for 2 weeks and down to one chef.

the best indian food! not only best indian, best ethnic. I have to highly disagree with all negative reviews. this place is the best I have ever had. the restaurant owner is also the cook, and hes been cooking for years, with passion ! everything on the menu is the delicious. what a great place. must try place !

I would have to say that this was probably the best indian food i've had in Calgary ! We had dinner outside on the patio which was made the night even better. Keep it up Nawab !

was recommended to come to nawab by many of our friends. the food was exquiste, full of flavor and fresh. there was a bit of a wait but we were not in rush. the restaurant was clean, nicely decorated and family run. . definitley worth the wait, its food like you've never have before. will be back to try out more dishes on the menu! great authentic find!was recommended to come to nawab by many of our friends. the food was exquiste, full of flavor and fresh. there was a bit of a wait but we were not in rush. the restaurant was clean, nicely decorated and family run. . definitley worth the wait, its food like you've never have before. will be back to try out more dishes on the menu! great authentic find!

The menu is a good size here and the service very friendly. I visited with my 7yr old celiac daughter and we had a good time. It was good to see many gluten-free options for my daughter. I tried the Nawab special plate (different meats with sizzling veg) with garlic naan and my daughter had the lamb korma with basmati rice and an order of papadums. She enjoyed their mango lassi. Food was great in my opinion. The decor is nice (it's still quite new) and the lighting is interesting. The chef came out and said hi which was a nice touch. We finished up with an order of mango ice cream - not bad. Overall, a nice experience - the food was good, service friendly but a tad slow, and defintiely family-friendly.

Good food but worst service. Waiting for an hour and a half for food and service where the server doesn't even acknowledge you but just pours you water is not the way I thought my dinner was going to be. Me and my friend were patient and honestly I would have never waited that long if I didn't drive so far to cone try out this restaurant. They should tell you that there would be a Wait for the food when we sat down because I was not expecting to wait 1.5 hours to eat. Get servers who actually want to be there and hire more kitchen staff for the food to be quick and ready. It was great food if you really want to wait. But I will not be back.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!. I went for dinner with my friend and that was the worst service I ever got nobody ever came to the the table for 20 Min's before we actually ordered drinks. The lady that originally was serving us didn't even smile. I understand it was busy but she wouldn't even look and I found her pretty rude like she didn't even want to be there at all. When they finally took our order no one came to ask us about our drinks or how much more the wait would be. No service whatsoever. We were here for an hour and still no food. We have been here since 745 and it was 9pm and still nothing. I don't know how this restaurant survives with this kind of service.

Take Out is a Disaster!!. Twice I have called and they refused to do take out because "the kitchen is busy" perhaps you need to hire more staff. The one time we ate in it took over an hour to get the food. The management/owners obviously don't know how to run a business, stay far far away from this train wreak!!
Rucha
Went to Nawab to get take out! Website says take out after 4pm everyday, we went for a take-out and they refused. Can't do take-out today as we r busy and there was no-one in the restaurant! Such bad customer service and rudeness. They are so snobbish and give special service to non- Indian people!! Bad attitude -- bad service .. Never again

Very nice. I have had several meals at Nawab and my experiences were always very good. The staff are familiar with me and perhaps I get better service than some of the other reviewers because I have not encountered any problems. I was surprised that some reviews are negative. The food has always been very good, sometimes excellent. If I did not like it I would not go back and as mentioned previously I have been there several times. Of course everyone has different expectations and experiences. I have always liked Nawab.

CHANGE YOUR F-IN WEBSITE & ANSWERING MESSAGE!!!!!!. Called to get some take out as the website had listed 4pm takeout orders (also the answering machine said the same!!)
...but alas that was not the case as was so casually & matter of fact-ly told to me by I'm assuming the owner who had just driven up!! ...I was on a time constraint and had planned a take out dinner by the fact that the website and answering machine HAD SAID 4PM!!!!!!

So in conclusion get your s*%t together and change your advertising!! ...it's not hard to do!!!!

Thx ....pissed off customer who will never return or recommend your restaurant!

OK food, unprofessional staff. We found that the servers were quite awkward, and some were not dressed professionally. The food was decent and not overpriced, but overall not great. The butter chicken & vindaloo lacked flavor but the garlic naan & okra curry were good.
Funkypunky88
Bland Bland Bland. It always amazes me when you read reviews for restaurants and you see "it was fantastic" ratings and then visit and are completely underwhelmed. I'm pretty sure the 5 star reviews are from friends and family as our complaints are similar to the other "did not like" reviews found buried beneath the "liked" ones. Even the table beside us was disappointed as the fellow erupted into "we have been here for 2 hours and where's our food?" rant.
Our food was bland at best. It seemed like a bag of Co-op frozen veggies (long beans, carrots) had been cooked in a Campbell's cream soup with some Indian spices. And the chatty Chef only seemed to visit certain tables-not ours or the poor table beside us.
One review suggests people who have posted negative comments only do so because they didn't get the free wine or discounts. We do not drink and always pay full value (IF you consider overpriced mediocre food valuable) so our review is from a place of honesty.

Won't be going back. We came to the restaurant at 6pm with our two year old thinking we could beat the dinner rush (which it looked like we did). By 7:30 when our food still hadn't come we finally had to ask for it to go. The service for the hour and half that we were there for was terrible. The food was ok, but we definitely won't be going back.

The BEST Indian food in Calgary. The food is absolutely outstanding and I will be back very soon. We had lamb vindaloo, butter chicken (of course), and the veggie appetizer. Everything was so flavourful and fresh; I could taste the love that went into making the food. Beautiful view and ambiance as well!!

Nice place for Indian food. Ambiance is good, food is tasty and service is good. All was good till later in the evening while in bed I started passing gas a lot due to heavy food served. All and all good place to have East Indian food in Calgary but u may have a case of passing gas as u know what I mean after dinner ;-)
Jedicowgirl
The food is amazing but the service is really terrible. I've been three or four times now and we have had a different server each time...each time as bad or worse than the last. It's a bummer.

Top Notch !!. On Saturday evening 4 of us dined at Nawab for the first time. From the moment we were welcomed in the door and seated at our table, the service was excellent. We were served cocktails all of them fantastic with very creative usage of flavors. We immediately noticed the atmosphere - vibrant with a wide range of different ages and social groups. The decor was warm and inviting "Love the chandelier". When we were seated, the friendly waitstaff was immediately attentive and never let our water glasses empty. We tried four different items from the menu and were wowed by each of them. I highly recommend Nawab any time you are in Calgary. Best Indian Restaurant !!

Food is fantastic - says it all. Confused by the review below. The food is fantastic hence popular, if you don't book and have to wait, so? The restaurant is well run, food fantastic and is a place everyone in Calgary should visit. Maybe book first?
Jim Faust
Food & View is good...... everything else is a FAIL. It is a terrible shame.....the food is fantastic.....the view is stellar......but everything else has been a bad experience. Today, I called at 4:20pm )to see if they were open & place a take out order) and was told to call after 5pm........called after 5pm and they refused to take our order. on another occasion, I was left to stand at the entrance (I was there to ask for a take our menu) without being acknowledges for ten minutes....I finally gave up and left......another occasion while dining there, we were given the wrong bill to pay and they then chose to argue with us telling us it was ours....they finally conceded that they gave us the wrong bill.

Plenty of good Indian Restaurants around......this one is out of chances despite the good food and view

Fantastic New Restaurant!. We were delighted to discover Nawab and had the opportunity to dine there a few weeks ago with friends. We were seated at the corner table overlooking the freshly falling snow outside.. so very lovely, I recommend requesting that table! I had heard great reviews and couldn't wait. From the outstanding service we received through to the last bite we were so impressed. The staff are trained, gracious, polite and fun! We chose many of the recommended dishes and were pleased with the selection. I have a friend who has made us authentic dishes and the food at this restaurant reminded me of her techniques. Authentic, delicate, fragrantly spiced, heat when you wish and a wide variety of dishes to select from all make this a restaurant we'll go back to again and again. If you're looking for authentic, outstanding food, you will make this restaurant your new favourite as well.
NOTE:
Re the bad review below mine,I suspect there are people who go from restaurant to restaurant and "threaten" to write bad reviews unless they get free wine or discounted meals. Beware the rude remarks/reviews from these people, they are used to force restaurants to give them what they want. Very disappointing that Urban Spoon doesn't take such slanderous comments off their site and see this as a trend. At another restaurant we frequent, similar people requested glass after glass of free "samples" to taste the high end wine available.. and when they didn't receive it threatened to write a bad review.. not cool!! This leaves the restaurant owners vulnerable to outright lies and slander with no recourse to "Reply" or "Respond" to the comments.
LETS EAT
This is the most disgusting Indian food I have ever had! I think it very disturbing that the owners want staff and friends to post good reviews and hit the like button! At one point they had so many doing it at one time you could not post a review on Urbanspoon
Samsawchuk
Fantastic Restaurant!. This was an amazing experience! The food here is always fantastic - the restaurant recently lost one of its chefs, so when we went it was only the one chef in the kitchen making all the food. This did not cause a problem at all and the food came out just about as fast as normal. The service was great and caring as always and made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend the coconut prawn curry!

Look forward to returning soon!

Does not ,like it at all. Garbage food , all the food are same taste , I think there are better if go any other restaurants In city , and it is long time wait make sure you have enough time on hand , over all it is not worth
Patrickmason99
One of my favourites !. This is one of the best resturaunts I been to in Calgary, and in fact worldwide. The ambiance, the service was fantastic and of course the food is without parallel. I was introduced to this restaurant by my daughter Have been back twice in two weeks, no regrets Introduced most of my friends, every one of them loves this place.

Couldn't tell ya. Walked in and waited for the host (who was standing two feet away with his back to us) to deign to look up from his iPad. He seated us next to a couple who were clearly on a date (we had our six year old), though there were a number of tables at the back with kids. The bus person immediately brought water, but that was the last time anyone paid any attention to us, even after we put down our menus. A number of staff looked at us, but none ever came near the table. After ten minutes, we walked out (right by one of the staff who never spoke to us). We went to Diner Deluxe in Aspen Landing. Very good food and very pleasant service there. I highly recommend it if you have kids. I won't be back to this place.

Nawab restaurant Calgary.. Coming from England It’s probably the best Indian food we have had out side of India.
The owner / chef uses authentic spices, dishes brilliantly cooked. Excellent food presentation, the restaurant is news and fresh ingredients were reflected in meats and vegetables. One to visit on our next visit to Calgary. Five star rating.

Amazing food! Large group of us went and tried nearly everything! Great service & atmosphere! Authentic ownership and great personalities of the family that owns! Really impressed and I'm a major Indian foodie!

Terrific meal of vegetable samosas, spicy beef kabobs, shai jeera & paneer makhani. Attentive, friendly service.

A Little Gem. Great indian restaurant. Chicken tikka was tender and very good. Vindaloo was spicy, just the way I like it. One of the best curry I've had. Overall great experience. Nice restaurant with very nice veiw. Will be back

Delicous Dining. Food is always amazing, and ambiance creates a perfect dining experience. been here a few times since they have opened and each time we try to have a different dish, and each have been so exceptionally good. i love the pakoras, butterchicken. surprised to see the negative reviews, especially about the food, because the food is exquisite and fresh. there is a wait sometimes, but i would rather have a chef take his time with my dish then rush out medioce food.

-----07 Jul, 2014-----

Drool!!. My new favorite indian restaurant. Authentic, fresh, hot and tasty. Clean and sheek decor. Thank u for not being greasy! Amazing food.

Best Indian curry we have found in Calgary. Excellent food in a lovely modern restaurant in Montreaux. The owner/chef makes the best curries we have found in Calgary and the pakora and nan breads are fantastic too. Not the cheapest, but it's great to have high quality meat in a delicious curry sauce so definitely worth it. Really good, friendly family service. Kids enjoy it too when we take them!
Amarindersandhu5
Nest Indian food ever!!!. Went there on a Saturday evening, hands down the best Indian food; ordered shahi paneer and naan, the food and ingredients were extremely fresh and of high quality. Can't wait to bring the rest of my friends and family back here. Keep it up nawab! !
Svanderg
Amazing..!. Recently opened Southwest and not fully staffed up as of yet.

That said, the owner hostess was charming, attentive and helpful in making item recommendations. The Chai martini was off the hook and everything we ate we wanted more of.

Best East Indian we have ever had..!
Faisal Karmali
I've been waiting here for 1.5 hours. The food takes so long. Don't come here unless you order your food 24 hours in advance
Jenny S
Fantastic Indian!. My fiance and I visited Nawab shortly after they opened and we were very impressed! The food was incredibly flavourful and the variety on the menu was fantastic. We highly recommend the Nawab Special Plate - this was such a big hit with both of us and the tenderness of the meat, brightness of the vegetables and variety of flavours was so impressive. We also had the Murgh Madras - quite unlike any Madras I have had before and was very generous with the amount of chicken.
The service was pleasant and caring & the chef even came out to check on tables. We felt very welcomed and taken care of.
We were so happy with our dining experience at Nawab that we will be sure to go again! I highly recommend a visit.

Great addition to Montreux/Aspen area, best Indian food in town. Finally got a chance to try takeout from the newly opened Nawab in Montreux over the weekend. Ordered a wide variety of dishes and each of them were excellent! The flavours were a cut above other Indian restaurants we have eaten at and it was evident that the food was prepared with care and attention.

Of note were the saag paneer (spinach had texture and flavour instead of the pureed green mud from other restaurants), murgh malai tikka (tender and strong flavours from the marinade), and chicken korma (great sauce with depth). The pakoras were excellent also, hot and crispy with a great sauce.

Very glad that the menu clearly shows what is gluten free as well. Looking forward to trying everything else, the tandoor bison kebabs sound great!
Iain Munro
Staff are friendly, setting is very nice. Being from the UK, I know a good Indian when I have one and this is it. Food is excellent.

As they have just started up again, they are working out the kinks. If you want a relaxing night and have the patience, this is a great place to go.
Cindy B
My mouth is burring but i like it!. Very authentic indian food, better then average for sure. staff was knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations. vindaloo was my favourite, if you don't like spicy food, ask for mild.. so glad they didn't serve stale or old naan like other indian places, these were made in a tandoor according to the server. best part is, my children loved it and want to come back! great job nawab. keep it up
Sofka
Not worth the wait. Busy Friday night, about 7:30, but the place wasn't full. Service was slow, and the wait for food/drinks was worse. My chai took 40 mins and our main meal took an hour and a half. Wasn't worth the wait, it was very bland. Won't be back.
Larissa Choi
So happy that bawab has reopened. Nice decor and atmosphere and most importantly the food is still delicious. Loved all the dishes especially the papri chat, butter chicken, lamb vindaloo and naan. Can't wait to come back!
Kingswayhall2000
Loved every bite!. We moved to Calgary from Vancouver a year ago, tried few Indian restaurants, This newly opened Nawab restaurant is awesome . Best Indian food in all of Calgary. Service is a little slow though cause they recently opened but worth the wait
Cowgirl64
Not your typical indian!. As an appetizer, i had the nawab special plate, it was such a delight, so much meat! every time i go out for indian, food is always very greasy, however, food here seemed high quality with great flavor.! the staff are very polite and are managing well for a busy new restaurant. i recommend ordering a starter, you may get hungry waiting for the food, worth the wait for the main meal!! tasty tasty! love the flavors of indian! thanks for opening !
Mnathanail
Great food.. This is a new location that opened a week ago. The food was excellent, service enthusiastic and attentive. I think they've been taken by surprise at how busy they've been because the kitchen was really slow. It was 45 minutes after our order was taken that our food came out. I would attribute the delay to growing pains. I will definitely be back. Consider making a reservation - the restaurant isn't big and you will probably end up waiting or eating at the bar if you show up around the supper hour.
Kirsty94
Totally disappointed tonight looked forward to it opening in our neighbourhood as previously went to downtown. Called for take out no take out between 6 and 8 ... That is when people want to eat ! Went to green chilli instead not impressed

Don't think the guy below went to the right nawab. This place is delicious they are family run and even when they are busy they make sure we don't wait more than five mins been going here since they opened buffet and dinner. I recommend them highly and would suggest buffet for anyone new to Indian food. My personal favorite is the chicken mango sounds Basic but a burst of flavor if you get it spicy.

Never had an issue with the staff either always call my little daughter a princess and give her hugs when they see her. I love this place and the owners and would truly recommend it to anyone in the Valley!!!!
Asif
It was big order for 22 members, didnt get discount and its expensive, food was ok..

Real curry with real customer service. I've been a long time fan of Nawab. I take personal offense when people say "This place has the best curry" and name some hole in the wall. Nawab is BY FAR the best Indian cuisine you will ever eat.

Walking into the restaurant, I feel a real sense of home. You see Jim (head chef) walking around, chatting with his customers making sure everyone is happy from the little baby to the seniors, he makes sure everyone is comfortable and happy.

I've stuck with my butter chicken for years, and it will never change. I've tried a little bit of everything, and Jim or Pam (his lovely wife) usually order for us. We just tell them our price range and they make the best of our meals.

If you want REAL Indian food, eat here. No other place comes close.
Bri H
Fantastic. Friendly owners. Great food. I think the best Indian food I have had on five continents!
Eskimo
Pricey but great food!!!. I went there on a tuesday night and was the only person in the place from 615-700pm. I was a little surprised that it was that dead, but it is downtown and they probably do a good lunch crowd.

I got the shai jeera chicken (hot) and Naan bread with basmati rice. It was very good and very authentic.
The server (owner) and the chef (owner?) both check ed on me twice to see if everything was good. I said it was very good.

The final bill (and I was very full) was $28. (no drinks)

I would reecommend Nawab if you can afford 20-30 bucks per person
Frank McLellan
Great Indian Cuisine. Just tried out chicken vindaloo garlic naan bread appetizer olatter for two and chicken byrrini as well as the pistachio kulfi mmmm exotic aromas abound the flavours are great.Don't miss this place if you like Indian Food.
Eric
Fair veggie food but pricey and service was slow. Not sure if I would come back.
Amanda
My fav restaruant hands down! Chicken korma and chili pakoras? Yes please! And the owners are super great! Xo
Lizzy
Good food but God forbid you complain. We mentioned that the fish in the fish curry was a bit dry (actually it was awful but we were being nice). We were then subjected to three separate lectures about how you can't buy fresh fish in Calgary. Apparently for $18 you get gross frozen fish. Needless to say, we won't return, despite having high hopes to begin with as the dishes were tasty. But the owners' tirade was too much.

Mmm.. Best indian food in the city. I'm not sure how this place hasn't caught on yet?! ...Make a point of going soon if you haven't already as the stupid Bow building is edging them out of their lease!! Give the onion Bahji (sp?) a try for the appy, and have your pick of any of the delicious dishes on the menu. I've tried most of them by now, and have NEVER been disappointed. The indian rice pudding desert is amazing if you have any room left by then!

Its my fav place by far! Its always sooo delicious especially the chili pakoras! The owners are so great and the food is top notch.

Consistently Delicious!. I have been to Nawab 3 times for dinner and each time has been just as delicious as the previous! This restaurant is owned and operated by a family - the father is the cook and the mother and daughter are servers. I have been there twice with big groups and once with one other person.

The service is fantastic! They are all very friendly and attentive. The first time I came to Nawab, my friend and her husband brought their 9 month old twins. The owner took the little girl and paraded her around the restaurant so that my friend could eat!

The food is amazing! I have tried the korma, butter chicken, chicken tikka, tikka masala and kashmiri. The garlic naan and saffron rice are wonderful. The prices are on the higher than say Karma but it is definitely worth it for the quality of the food. I highly recommend bringing a big group of people here. It is a great experience to share and try different dishes. Highly highly recommend Nawab!
Dutch Guilder
Lunch buffet is way too expensive. $21 for a take-out lunch buffet? Not good value.
AniF
Our favourite Indian food. Don't miss this restaurant - it's fantastic. Clean, modern and the food is amazing. The garlic naan bread is soft, chewy and addictive. You might catch a glimpse of a Calgary Flames player or Olympic athlete. Apparently it might be forced to close it's doors forever soon. So get there before the end of August 2010 and get your fix!
Alessandra
The best indian restaurant in Calgary. Excelent food, excelent service! This is the real deal! The best indian restaurant I've ever been in this city!

Great food and friendly owners/staff. I really like Nawab for several reasons. The decor is up scale, but infused with culture. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are very hospitable and attentive. The buffet was great! Awesome place, please see and taste for yourself!

Extremely good. C and I were staying over the road from Nawab, and gave this place a try. It was empty at 6.45 pm which worried us at first, but hockey was on so the town was a ghost town anyway. We need not have been concerned as this was simply wonderful. We shared the chili pakoras for a starter which was plenty for us both, and these blew our socks off, but in a good way. Very spicy but very tasty with the mint jelly and tamarind chutney. She then had the chicken tikka masala and I had the sizzling special plate, with garlic naan, raita, chutney etc. as accompaniments. I have to say that everything we had was of impeccable quality and unbelievable flavor. We met Jim the affable owner/chef, and he had us sample some of his special homemade pickles which were amazing. I have rarely tasted anything as good as these, very subtle flavors, but powerful stuff. We both agreed that this was by far the best Indian we have ever had in North America, (of many), and much better than almost all but the very best in the UK. We thoroughly recommend Nawab to anyone lucky enough to be able to get to it.

If the name sounds familiar its because their original location was downtown at the intersection of 4th AVE SW and Macleod Trail. They have been open at this location for only 5 weeks and even though there were a few tiny kinks in service to work out the food hit all the marks! We started off with the paneer pakoras which are little cubes of freshly made cheese coated in an aromatic chick pea batter and deep fried. The little fritters were light, crispy and aromatic of fennel seed. The mint chutney on the side was tart and very cooling. Our mains included the prawn masala and the lamb tikka masala. The prawns were fre
