Review Namskar - Calgary

Saima Kamran
A traditional Indian restaurant. Stopped in for lunch and had a great meal. The food is exceptional! Very tasty and well prepared and you can choose among many menu options.

I live near here and try it for the first time. I like the characteristic tea and mutton very much. The taste of chicken and clay oven rollsis also very good

One of my favourite Indian restaurants in Calgary! Food is delicious! Service is lovely! Washrooms are clean! Music, seating, decor, vibe is so beautiful! We went on a Thursday night just before they closed, so we had the whole place to ourselves. We got chole bhature, chicken tikka masala, naans, rotis, and ras malai! Everything was 10/10! Didn’t even take pictures of the food cuz we started enjoying it so fast 😋😋 Will definitely be coming back! My favourite chole bhature in Calgary! 😋😋

Great decor. The naan bread is made fresh to order. Spicy is hot but not over the top. Chick pea curry is my favorite dish and they make it superbly. I wonder what is their secret? Lots of parking.

Our family has ordered from Namskar for ages, and given these difficult times for restaurants felt it was time to post a review. We typically order for delivery, and know to order ahead of time on busy nights. We’ve yet to try a bad dish, but our family-friendly favorites are the butter chicken, Chana masala, naan bread, and Kachumber salad. For the grownups the vindaloo has the perfect amount of heat.

We visited Namskar on June 20, 2022. We were on our way to Banff from Toronto and our friend had strongly suggested we visit Namskar in Calgary since we had a day planned in Calgary. The ambience of the restaurant is great! Gives positive vibes. The owner and other staff of the restaurant were so welcoming and warm, it felt like we were visiting a restaurant in India. The food tasted great and the service was impeccable. We loved our experience and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone craving Indian food in Calgary.

If you want to get food posioined do go here. My entire fam and our friends went here on Sunday evening and from the next day everyone started having food poisoning symptoms. Its day 4 for myself and I've not gotten any better. We ordered tandoori chicken, chicken curry, Rogan gosh beef curry, mango Lassi, garlic Naans, gulab jamun and ras malai. Note to the person replying: I'm posting the receipt with clear name of the restaurant, address, date and the things we ordered for whoever denies that we weren't there.
Dipanker Sarin
The worst tandoori chicken I have ever tasted. Also ordered Karahi Paneer. Paneer looks like made from spoiled milk. Haven’t tasted yet Karahi chicken and naans. But highly dissatisfied with quality of food. We are from Brampton. Just checked his reviews and ordered. But very frankly speaking, I would have given his 0 stars if allowed.

Poor customer service, rude and unpleasant service. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I went their on my wives birthday and servers behaviour was so rude that we had to cancel our order and leave. If someone wants to spoil an evening this is the place to be in.

What a wonderful meal! Many thanks to all of the friendly and outgoing staff as well as the consistently amazing chefs. Tonight we had the beef palak, beef madras and lamb roganjosh. All of the main dishes, rices and breads were simply amazing. Thanks again!

Awesome restaurant guys...one of the best for Indian food in Calgary...I've been there many times, especially for my birthday dinners and loove it every time. Never disappoints! Thanks to the owner Mr. Trilochan Sekhon and his stupendous chefs for having fed my family and I so many times

Food was top notch! And the delivery guy was so kind. We just moved near by and I am excited to be a regular costumer!!

From California and first time trying Indian food. Highly recommend it!!! Loved the mango chicken

Food was very good. Everything we ordered tasted really really good. Service was a bit slow though. But would definitely go back here.

I find Namskar so hit and miss. Some times it’s great and other times it isn’t. I alway find it’s a gamble of whether it’s going to be good or not. I wish it was more consistent. It would be 4 stars if it was
Jasjeet
Had dinner last night here after hearing mixed reviews from others. But we just like the food. Everything was tasty with right amount of spices in what we ordered. We ordered malai kofta which was not sweet and kadahi panner which was spicy (as we were expecting) with plain and garlic naan. Would really recommend this place.

This restaurant still serves great Indian food after all these years & is located very central to all quadrants. The lunch time buffet is a great deal.

This is a busy restaurant, with good food and good service. Every item we ordered off the menu didn’t disappoint. The portions may seem small but ordering a few dishes is ideal for sharing. Everything tasted authentic, wonderfully flavorful and fresh. We ordered the following: Butter chicken, Beef vindaloo, Til mil zhinga, Naan, Garlic naan, Rice, Papadum, Veggie pakoras, Shahi paneer, Chana masala, Mixes raita and a Mango shake to drink. Out of all the items we ordered, my favorite were the butter chicken and til mil zhinga (prawns). I also enjoy the prawn masala. Reservations are recommended for the weekend.

The food is amazing and very delicious. All the employees are super kind and very welcoming. Hands down the best Indian Restaurant I have been to.
Justin Kettle
ordered take put from here last night. curry with rice and naan. single order was enough for dinner for 2 and the curry was amazing. Will be back and recommend to all
Lambpire
Absolutely delicious and authentic. Service is always weird however and the building itself (which used to be an Italian restaurant) needs some help to create a more friendly environment.
Ayaz Maredia
Food is average in taste.<br/><br/>In appetizers we tried chicken Hariyali Kabab and Chicken tikka Kabab. Both were OK in taste and the chutney to go with was extremely bad.<br/><br/>In main course we tried chicken madras and chicken chilli. Chilli was very very tasty but Madras was worst, had just taste of black pepper.<br/><br/>Garlic Naan was the only thing I liked there.<br/>On top of everything its very expensive and quantity is very less.<br/><br/>That was my first and last visit!
Vira Ostroverkh
We ordered delivery because we had just moved into the area and wanted to see if it would be any good. The restaurant is 3 blocks from our house and it took an hour and a half to get our food. Additionally it was very bland and wayyyyy to expensive for what you get.

I've been here a couple of times for the lunch buffet and have enjoyed it immensely. The good was delicious and the staff is very friendly. Fair warning though - I have limited experience with Indian cuisine and have only been to a couple of other Indian restaurants in town. I enjoyed the buffet because it allowed me to try a variety of dishes. I liked everything I tried but (embarrassingly) couldn't name those dishes now. Except the naan bread of course. The naan was incredible. (I didn't try the desert). My only hesitation is that it seems a bit pricey ($20). If you have a big appetite then you're set, but I don't usually feel up to eating that much during my lunch hour. With any buffet I usually feel like I should 'get my money's worth' but that's a mistake you only make once!
Quince
Absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is very inviting, and service was friendly and quick. We started with the vegetable samosas ($4.95 for two), which were absolutely incredible. The pastry was buttery and meltingly tender, and the filling was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Next we had the Palak Aloo ($14.95), Aloo Gobhi ($14.95), Butter Chicken ($16.95), and Beef Curry ($15.95), as well as Naan ($2.55 each) and an order of steamed rice ($2.95). The Palak Aloo sauce was just the right consistency, and, like the Aloo Gobhi, was perfectly spiced. The butter chicken was very, very good - wonderfully tender pieces of chicken enrobed in a velvety, rich sauce. The Beef Curry was also very good: a balanced, subtly spiced sauce with nicely cooked pieces of beef. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I recently dined here with two friends, and we all enjoyed everything very much. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was delicious. Portion sizes were just right, and the flavours of all the dishes were wonderful. It's my choice for the best Indian cuisine in Calgary. We'll definitely be back.

Was exited when I got invited for Indian food @ lunch today-that excitement soon became a major disappointment - vegetable pakora no vegetable, (just one large clump for fried batter). Had to do some fishing for curry goat & butter chicken (these dished seem to be over loaded with MSG) since I have a intolerance for product I a sick to my stomach. One saving grace was that the Naan was very well prepared (Hence the 1 grade). The dessert was especially bad-the fruit cocktail in cream, must have been soaking for a long while, soggy and tasteless and the rice pudding, the chef must have made in a tub of Cardamom---all cardamom taste--as for the chai????? what was that... poor..heading for antihistamine & tums...
Kaz
The food here is amazing. The service is good during most times, don't be afraid to wave someone down here. Their lunch buffet is well worth it, you can even take it to go with you. The drinks like the mango lassi and chai are really good. Its a perfect atmosphere for any kind of casual dining. Although priced higher than many other Indian restaurants, it is well worth it. The best part is taking the sauce home with you and dipping the naan in it as a snack.
Gaurang Ashok Hattangdi
Horrible and rude customer service. Never been to the restaurant. But I called yesterday regarding the lunch buffet prices and asked him whether it is a wide spread for 17 dollars Canadian and got to know that it's a very small spread of buffet. Then I told him, that its ok no problem but it doesnt sound very worth to me sorry. I said it very casually. Then that guy on the phone rudely says ""then don't come ok "" !!!!!!!. If on a phone when some ones enquiring about ur restaurant, u don't give a s$$t about customer service, what's the use. Never going here !!

Agree - my favorite Indian place is Rajdoot Restaurant in Calgary, I enjoy Tandoori Hut in Kensington. Good price. Great food. Include indian foods - chicken curry, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken tikkas, biryani, curry, clay oven dishes, masala, North Indian cuisine and more.

I have been trying a number of different Calgary Indian restaurants looking for good quality food in a nice surrounding. I have tried many and have been discounted many times. Tonight was different, Namskar hit the spot with good quality , good tasting food. Meats and vegetables that were fresh and tasted as they should. Spices that were perfect. I finally found and Indian restaurant in Calgary that I can enjoy. I will be back<br/>
Karen
We hadn't been to Namskar in years so when some friends suggested it for dinner, we were looking forward to it. One of the people in our party is GF and vegetarian and namskar has a lot of options for us to choose from. The dishes are priced a little higher than your smaller Indian restaurants but the food and service was really good. Personally, I still prefer tamarind in the NW, but location wise Namskar is much more central. If you're craving Indian food<br/>and in then area I'd suggest giving this restaurant a try. If you're looking for a cheaper option in the same area, The Spices on Centre St. is also really good for a lesser cost.

Awesome awesome awesome. Great food great service! Lovely environment. Best butter chicken, samosas, aloo ghobi and pacora! My fav Indian place to go in Calgary!
Shabir Dewji
Excellent service. Good food. Just one complaint. If you order Onion Bhajia or Pakoras, you get the same item, even though both are listed are different items.

Best taste..very humble staff...up to mark service and nice music👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻.we were in Calgary for shopping and were not sure which restaurant is good but fortunately we made a good choice.keep doing the good job Namaskar🙏🙏🙏🙏

The food is and the service is okay, but the portion of an order is SUPER small compared to its price. You have to spend at least $25.00 if you want to be full. With that amount of money, I can buy 2 medium bowls of Vietnamese beef noodle soup, and get myself being full.
Akash Ramjeeth
The food at this restaurant is delicious. Lovely neat restaurant. Good ambiance. Friendly staff. Parking also available. My wife and I really had a get date night at.
Rashda Bajwa
Called a half hour before close and they were more than gracious to make a large order. Butter chicken was perfect and not overly thick, lamb korma was perfectly seasoned and was enjoyed by many different palates of spice. I will definitely go back! Also the customer service and friendliness was top notch! This is my go to Indian food restaurant from now on.

Went for dinner with a friend of mine . The food was great . We ordered the Lamb Balti  , Shahi Paneer ( cottage cheese cooked in a tomato based curry) , Nan, Rice and a Raita. ( yoghurt with carrots and cucumber in it). The Yoghurt was yummy. <br/>The lamb dish was very flavorful and tender. My friend enjoyed the meal too and she thought the Indian food was delicious. Cannot call it expensive ..would say just a tad pricey but worth it. <br/>I am only writing this review as I am confident in recommending the restaurant. I have eaten the lamb biryani earlier as well and can highly recommend it.  A<br/><br/>Enjoy!

I came here for a friend's birthday dinner a while back. I didn't have any expectations when I picked out the Biryani with goat and mixed raita (yogurt), but my goodness, what an experience! Rice was perfect and full of flavour, meat was juicy, and the yogurt had toasted cumin seed powder sprinkled on the surface. Wow. My tastebuds were overjoyed after that meal! The service was astounding. This dish originally comes with cashews sprinkled on top, and since I'm allergic I informed the waiter that I did not want cashews. However when the dish came out it had cashews on it. The waiter apologized, rushed back in, and in no time at all brought out a new plate of food for me. The people that work here are true of heart, you'll notice that as soon as you step inside and taste their food!
Emily Isacowgirl Brown
the former Indian owners made excellent curries. The new asian owners are not that great at east indian delicate flavors. <br/><br/>campbell's soup is not curry. IMHO the best curry is homemade. get a recipe and explore
Katlyn Snyder
Was a very mediocre meal. We ordered the Roganjosh Lamb. The rice was kind unevenly cooked and the lamb was tough but the sauce was really tasty. The service was pretty friendly and efficient.

Do NOT eat here. We ordered through skip the dishes and got delivery. The delivery man apologized for being over 30 mins later than the expected delivery time. I said no worries at all, it happens. Then, I open the rice and curry dishes and am horrified to find a zipper sitting on top of the rice. What else am i going to find in my food?! You hear of things being found in food, but I've never actually experienced it. We picked around the curry for a bit and skipped on the rice. We both ended up getting sick from the small amount of curry that we did eat. Absolutely disgusted, we call the restaurant and they just tell us they don't know what we are talking about and hang up. We notify Skip the Dishes with a photo of the zipper and they say the restaurant will contact you. No resolution. No refund.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I love my Indian curries. Until now, I’ve been fairly disappointed by what’s on offer in Calgary. So far, we’ve found the Indian restaurants in Calgary to be fairly underwhelming, so when we heard Namskar recommended twice by two different people, we knew we had to check it out.

Simply delicious. I ordered take out on a Sunday night. Bhind masala (okra), baingan patiala (eggplant), and plain naan. I am loving this meal!!!!!!<br/><br/>The okra is in a flavorful tomato sauce with the most incredible warm spices. The eggplant is also in a tomato sauce with onion and red prior. It is a completely different flavor than the sauce from the okra dish. Both are just wonderful.<br/><br/>I can't wait to order more, though it may be a while as it is a bit pricey. Two vegetarian dishes and one order of naan (1 full piece and 1 half piece) and it came to just over $35.00. Decent size on the veggie dishes though!<br/><br/>I'm savoring every bite.
Sam
Butter chicken, saffron rice and cheese Naan absolutely hit the spot when you are wanting some good Indian food. A bit pricey and not reallt consistent.
Tkadventures
Went for the lunch buffet, food was okay..... Tasted like tomatoes...... Almost like Campbell's tomato soup, I wished there was more spices and Indian taste to the food, I guess it was made more westernized
Natalie
I've been hitting up Namskar recently for the lunch buffet with friends and co-workers.  To be completely honest, it's pricey for what you get.  But I do always leave stuffed to the brim and I have never been unhappy with the food or the service.  Lately I've been skipping the rice and loading up on the meats, veggies and naan.  I love their aloo gobi and it has a great kick to it and the butter chicken is always a treat when you have that great sauce to eat with the naan.  Service wise they don't really talk to besides re-fill your drinks, but for a buffet I'm not expecting the five-star treatment.  I'm going to keep coming back when I get a craving during the work week.

Ordered delivery tonight was told it was an hour and a half wait. I can see why now the food is amazing best butter chicken I have ever had. With Coconut rice paneer pakoras I am super impressed.

Love It. I went to Namskar with a couple of coworkers, and we all absolutely loved the food! The portions were more than enough, and everything was so delicious.
Happyboy25250
Terrible service. I was there with my buddy for dinner recently and we were having drinks and starters. The waiter was repeatedly pressuring us to order for the main course dishes, most likely because they could get us out fast and have table ready for next customers even though they were open for another couple of hours. After repeated pressure and rude service, we finally said we don't like your service and just want to pay for our drinks and starters. We paid and walked to another east indian restaurant down the road. Totally awful. Will never visit again.
Blueyybaby
Goat tasted like lamb. Just had dinner at namskar. Been here many times in the past, thought I'd bring my parents here for dinner. Our server was nice and the service was ok despite it being busy. <br/>The main problem was the roghanjosh which we ordered to be made with goat. It was pretty disappointing when we spoke to the owner of the restaurant as he started making up stories that lamb is more expensive then goat... Why would I care I'm paying for goat - the dish roghanjosh can be made with chicken, lamb or goat and it's priced the same 15.95<br/>If you were to ask me, there are three differences between lamb and goat. <br/>1. Lamb has a nasty after taste, goat isn't as gamey<br/>2. Lamb is a really tough meat, goat isn't. <br/>3. Fibres in lamb are bigger, goat isn't. <br/><br/>In the end the cook finally came. We spoke to him, he kept insisting but hey, maybe the meat got mixed at the butchers.... <br/><br/>Overall will not be coming here again.
Tessa.flannery
Worst food and waste of money. If you are looking for a place that serves dull, tasteless and incomplete dishes, look no further! Not only is the food awful, but they are overpriced, lousy service and unprofessional.
Whipped Cream
The best indian buffet ever. Have to admit the best indian ive had in canada.buffet good quality multiple choices for salads mains and 2 type of bread.will be back.<br/><br/><br/>-----22 Nov, 2014-----<br/><br/>Yum yum. Definately will be back :-)

One of the Best Indian Restaurants in Calgary!. This place makes delicious, well-priced Indian food!! Indian is at the top of our list for eating out. When we moved to Calgary we made it our mission to try every Indian restaurant in the city. Namskar is the best Indian restaurant in the city. The staff is always friendly, always attentive. Food is prepared quickly and is always delicious. <br/>After eating there we decided to serve Indian food at our wedding and had Namskar cater it for us. We could not have been happier. We received VERY generous portions. The food was delicious, well spiced, delivered on time and very reasonably priced. Our guests are still talking about the food they ate and have been to Namskar since on their own. <br/>We will be back many more times, both for a la carte and the lunch buffet. Namskar, don't change a thing!!
Kane2690
Unprofessional staff and dull food. Visited many Indian restaurant, this was my worst experience. Lady at reception looked arrogantly at my friends and was wierd . Food was horrible and over burnt and moreover they are charging a hell lot from people who don't know how much the dish actually costs. One can easily find better Indian cuisine with fair prices.
Singh_retrieves
Most irritating staff and waste of money. Beginning with, when we entered the restaurant, staff was to arrogant and demeaning. Food was much expensive and not to the merit, you can have much better food at half the price in other Indian restaurants. I was amazed to see even 3.8 stars, I am not going there ever again
Rae
The one time I have actually tried the food here it was delicious but unfortunately the last few times I have tried to order from here I have been disappointed. Let me preface this by saying I have never actually been to the restaurant, I like to get delivery and I do not drive so pick-up is not really an option. Once I called 45 minutes before closing and they said they were no longer delivering, which is fair. The next couple of times I decided to order from elsewhere because they said it would take at least two hours. All of these things I understand, to an extent, but what I found the most frustrating was their sighs and obvious annoyance when I asked for delivery. It would be nice to have a little respect for being willing to pay their ridiculously high delivery charge. Also, if delivering is such a chore that you obviously do not want to do then eliminate it as an option. I'd like the opportunity to try the food again but I will most likely have to plan to go in to the restaurant.
Nick
An amazing experience. We ordered three dishes, goat curry, lamb korma, and butter chicken along with saffron rice and of course naan bread. The flavours were truly wonderful and the service was impeccable.
Louise.mallette
Namskar is sooo good. Namskar serves up an impressive list of vegetarian dishes but today i had the best ever eggplant dish . It was superb . I highly recommend this restaurant. Delicious food , great service and pleasant space. Thank you very much.

Damn good food. I typically don't order butter chicken, but I saw it being delivered to another table and it looked so good. Butter chicken and freshly cooked naan were amazing! Great food, great service!!
Pete Patel
This place doesnt cook good indian food and is over priced ...get a new chef....i can cook better indian food and I aint chef...plus clean the place it looks dated
Ashleydstauffer
Amazing. I walked by Namskar one morning just as they were opening and could not stop thinking about how amazing it smelled! I decided to try the lunch buffet the next day with a girl friend of mine. It was only my second time trying Indian food (had a bad experience with Glory of India) and I was a little skeptical. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the door, it was clean, staff was friendly and the food smelled delicious. <br/>I tried a little bit of everything that was vegetarian and a little butter chicken (I don't really like eating meat unless I purchase and prepare it). I finished everything on my plate. I could not believe what a completely different experience I had. The food was so good that I seriously think about it all the time. I especially love the fact that you can do a take out box for $12, which is perfect for me as I just live a few blocks away and I can bring it home. You still get more than enough food (I couldn't even finish it all). <br/>I will certainly be going back!
Habbbibbi
Terrible place for toddlers. We went today for the lunch buffet. We love Indian food and have tried many different Indian restaurant buffets. We have a daughter that just turned 2. She eat 2 spoons of yogurt and they charged us 9.99 for the kids buffet. I have neverrrrrrrrrr been at a buffet that they charge a 2 year old who does not eat. We left very upset. The server saw that our child would not even try the food. The server didnt even ask us if we wanted drinks and we had to go up to the bar to order drinks and get a spoon. Was not impressed with the service at all. Never going there again.
Gurpreet
Service was nice but the waiter doesn't know how to speak with punjab I people. I was giving orders in English and he was replying in punjab and it look odd in front of other people. He really need to work on his this habit
Lucie
Wonderful food. Generous portions. Fabulous service. Warm and welcoming decor. Can't wait to come back!
SirCooksAlot
Great sevice and food. Authentic flavors....I have never been disappointed.
Stella
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. I go there twice a month and they have never disappointed me with neither the food nor service. My favourite dish is veggie manchurian. Oh the chewy texture of those little round nuggets mmmm. No other restaurant has beaten this place on my favor so far. Quick, clean, spacious, and professional, overall really nice restaurant.
Rubenbocaranda
Rude Service. Hey folks don't give me wrong, I understand restaurants can get busy and staff members can get tired. I can understand that after a long shift you don't feel like giving us a smile or follow us to our table. I guess that by just pointing at it we could find our way to the table. And so we did.<br/><br/>I do have a problem with:<br/><br/>I finish my meal and decide to stand up to go the bathroom. We were a table of 3 people and 2 of us decided to go to the bathroom. I decided to pay in advance before getting to the bathroom so the lowed energy grumpy face waiter wouldn't think any weird stuff was up. <br/><br/>It turned out that when I walked out of the bathroom the owner lady gave me a pretty intense look and I just thought "Damn that's a pretty intense look". She just couldn't wait enough to ask the grumpy waiter with a pretty discriminating voice and completely behind my back "Did they pay?"<br/><br/>What I have to say:<br/><br/>I wouldn't normally complain about this stuff but I'm sorry lady owner. Those two people were my father and my mother. I immigrated to Canada 8 years ago and this was my first Christmas with my parents since I left my home land. I just felt deeply offended and humiliated in front of my parents. What a bad experience I had at this place.<br/><br/>To summarize,<br/><br/>- Okay Food<br/>- Bad Service<br/>- Bad Experience<br/>- Rude Owner
Rocket Scientists
Delicious!. Loved the food and everything and Namskar!<br/>Friendly and timely service and it is a nice place.<br/>But most importantly, the food! We ordered the Namskar veggi platter appetizer (samosas, pakoras, and cottage cheese paneer pakoras - awesome and came with two nice dipping sauces), Madras chicken, chicken Jalfrezi, garlic naan, and saffron rice. There were many pieces of nice chicken breast and a perfect amount of sauce. Everything was hot and absolutely delicious. They also have a nice selection of drinks, including non-alcoholic. The mango lemonade and mango lassie was delicious!
CTijani
My friend and I were here today and the food was very good I would be back. The waiter was very nice by giving me 2 stamps on my card to come back. Only downside got diet coke instead of regular coke but will be back again :)
Anne
There are many restraunts and people give bad or good reviews .. Bt when people give bad reviews I don't know why owner of namashkar restraunt give his own comments as an explaination . Customers do bad feedback sometimes so they should take it positively and improve it. I never seen any restraunt who give explainations on customers bad comments . No one has time to do it intentionally . Customers write what they feel . Namashkar is very old restraunt they should not do these kind childish things .
Lenny Nem
I'm sure glad I stopped by this wonderful Indian delight. The food was amazing and the service was fast, friendly and very attentive....all around a winner , love it.definitely coming back when I'm in Calgary...good job guys
Jeevs
Bad Experience. We went to Namaskar for a dinner with family friends. We had a baby who is less than 2yrs, she pulled one of the small side plate, fell and broke. To our surprise when the bill came he added 8 dollors for that small plate with GST and 15% autogratuity on it.<br/><br/>this is how they treat their guests.
Ammy
Great food and friendly service. My new go-to Indian place!
AbyS7
By far the best choice we did today was to visit Namaskar, it has good interiors, good service, the manager(owner) is a very jovial person. Above all else the food was awesome. I had veg Buffet and my friend had non veg buffet. We both liked it very much. Whenever I visit Calgary, this is the only place I will have food. Good job guys :)
Krista
Great food and service. 6 of us went to Namskar last night for my birthday dinner and it was amazing! The food was so good and our server was awesome - didn't catch his name though. Will definitely be going back!
JR
Great food, lacklustre service. Great food, but service is really lackluster. <br/>We were seated while the restaurant was nearly empty, and it took nearly fifteen minutes for anyone to take our order. Wrong appetizers arrived. Not sure if there was even a specific server assigned to our table, as we barely saw the same staff twice. After our plates were cleared, we waited another fifteen minutes to order tea (I finally gave up and tracked down a staff member myself), and after waiting another twenty minutes, no one bothered to show up with the bill. <br/>This was a birthday dinner, and therefore extra disappointing as we all left discussing not the food, but the disarray amongst the serving staff.
McDylan
Went there for thw first time tonight. Arrived late but we ordered our meals quickly as requested by the server. Our meals came to the table fast and done exactly as they were required. ( extra spicy) the meal, was devine. On the side were freshly cut onions and peppere which cleansed the palate. highly highly recommended for superb service and delicious meals.

A favorite. I always enjoy Namskar. The cheese naan is really good, and I never have complaints about service or the food.

Disappointed after John Gilchrist's review. Read John Gilchrist's recent write up, Swerve I think. Went to Namskar because of it. Butter chicken was just ok, chunks of chicken that had not had time to absorb flavours. Goat korma, well the goat was just bone chunks with fat, very little meat. 3 meat dishes in total. Western salad, what's that about? Naan was decent . Rice pudding tasty. Definitely over-priced and uninspiring overall.

Have never been disappointed. Have had dinner's to stay and to go many times and they are always met with rave reviews. The curries are full of flavor but never offensive. The naan breads are delicious (recommend the cheese or onion). And the rices always balance well. <br/>Highly recommend.

Addictive food and friendly service. My husband go here often. Prices are good and the food is amazing. Great place.

Decent vegetarian food..great service. I must say, this place gave us the best buffet service i have ever experienced. The waiter filled our water at least 5 times in the hour we were there and cleaned off our dirty dishes numerous times and he was super friendly while doing it. Keep up the great work!!<br/><br/>The only thing i wished they would do was have just one vegetarian curry dish. Dont get me wrong.. There were 4 other veggie dishes there but they were stir fried or deep fried. I wouldve been happy with one creamy curry vegetarian dish bc there were about 4 curry dishes there and all had meat. Otherwise food was decent and place was very clean.

Quite a nice restaurant. The food was good, although somewhat limited. The butter chicken was great!

Really good food, nice atmosphere and decent service. I've gone there with my boyfriend as a nice date and with friends who have toddlers - always a good experience. Also a good option for takeout.

Great meal, great service!. Dined with a group of 14 on February 1st, and had Sunil as our server. He was super friendly and made the right recommendations on portions as well as dishes. We had veggie samosas, butter chicken, beef vindaloo, prawn korma, chana masala and shahi paneer for our mains. Since we ordered quite a bit, he was kind enough to offer everyone free chai tea with our desserts. It was a nice little touch. For many of us, it was the first time dining here. Good for large groups and we would definitely dine there again. Everything was delicious.

Bland and boring. No kick! The buffet was watered down... no flavour. If you are new to Indian food and don't have much of a palate, this might be a good choice for you. When we finished lunch and walked back to our car in the back parking lot, we saw a cook throw out a bunch of boxes of pre-packaged Indian food, which explains the poor quality food we encountered today! We will never go back!

Very disappointed. Dined here last week and was very disappointed with the service. We had a mix- up with our orders and when this was brought to attention the waitstaff did not take appropriate actions to fix it, instead they insisted that they were right. I don't mind paying a higher price for food if I am receiving the correct order and waitstaff are willing to address my concerns but if this is not the case then I am going elsewhere. <br/>Food was mediocore but portion sizes were too small<br/><br/><br/><br/>***TO THE REPLY BELOW: Instead of blaming your customers or falsely believing that an "internet company" is posting bad reviews about your restaurant, maybe you should re-evaluate your food and your staff to improve upon your restaurant. Any criticism can be used constructively if your choose to accept it!!! *****

This place sucked so badly. We ordered beef vindaloo and lamb madras and they mixed it up with beef madras and lamb vindaloo, so we brought this to attention and we were told it was exactly what we ordered (which was total baloney) as I know the clear difference between the two. Portion sizes were too small for the prices and it was way too pricey compared to other Indian places; honestly will never come back here again.

Yum!!. I have tried quite a few places in the city and this place is my favourite! Really good butter chicken :) will be back!

My favorite Indian place in Calgary. Best naan! Coconut rice! And butter chicken. Tried lots of dishes, love them all.

The best in the city. I have eaten authentic Indian food from India, although they name the dishes differently here this is by far the best Indian food in the city! And they deliver to my house too!

Butter chicken the best. I dont eat much east indian but i tried it for my first time and loved it here. tasty food and amazing service. 8/10 stars. Will be back!!!

Great Indian Food. Namskar is my favorite indian restaurant in Calgary right now. The food is amazing and its less pretentious than Mango Shiva. If you want a hostess/Kim Kardashian wanna-be parading the restaurant all night long then Mango is the place for you. All the usual suspects are there, papadum, pakoras, vindaloo, korma, naan, roti's, and there all good.

Way overpriced Pathetic quantities. I dont know how anyone can call this place authentic Easat Indian.......Likely the chef has a recipe book open when he's cooking. Out of the six dishes we ordered , five tasted like mall food. Service was mediocre, with the waiter trying to push more liquour down our throats. Paid a ridculous price for a more ridiculous meal.

Delicious Authentic Indian!. We had a fabulous authentic Indian feast when we were at Namskar this past Saturday evening & Trilochan was our fabulous host :) This is an excellent restaurant on all levels, which we highly recommend!

Great Authentic Indian Food!. Whenever my husband and I think of Indian food we think of Namskar- it is delicious and definitely for the purist Indian food lover. The wait staff are very good about allowing you to change the level of heat in your curries and to accomodating larger orders. Be warned however that Namskar is on the more expensive end for Indian food in Calgary.<br/><br/>We love the onion bhajis to start, though I wish they offered a half order- it's huge. Their butter chicken is perfect and traditional and goes amazingly with their garlic naan and saffron rice. A personal favorite is the extra hot goat curry- the goat is always succulent rather than tough like at other restaurants. I personally don't care for the tandoori variety plate, but simply because I prefer saucier foods with my saffron rice. There's very little you can go wrong with at this restaurant and we've tried nearly everything.<br/><br/>We give Namskar an 8.5/10, a definite place to visit if you love authentic Indian food.

Delicious. We went as a group for a birthday event, and Namskar staff went above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommended sharing so that you can try a variety of dishes and it makes the price very reasonable. Garlic naan and coconut rice are a must - so tasty.

One of our favorites!. We're regulars at Namskar. Time and time again we find ourselves craving their relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and absolutely delicious food. While we're not from India and have little idea as to what authentic Indian food tastes like, we've heard from many Indian friends that the food is authentic. To be honest, I don't care about how authentic it is, it's just really tasty food. We'd recommend lamb in any type of sauce, any naan (garlic naan is our favorite, but all are delicious), coconut rice, ras malai, gulab jamun and a cup of chai. Veggie dishes with paneer are also delicious, and last time I tried prawns in a creamy sauce - the prawns were perfectly cooked. <br/><br/>The dishes are reasonably priced, in my opinion. For two people sharing an appetizer, two meat dishes, two plates of rice, an order of naan, two desserts, and three drinks, it was about $85 before tip. I guess whether or not you think it's pricey for two people depends on your budget.<br/><br/>I've never had a problem with the service. I believe that at the moment the restaurant is just getting popular and they're still a bit understaffed. In any case, the servers take care of you whether they're assigned to your table or not, and the food always comes out quick, even on a busy night. The atmosphere we find very cosy. Nice lighting, some kind of Indian music in the background, cute decorations. <br/><br/>I'm looking forward to my next meal at Namskar.

Lacks personality but O.K.. I like the place. It isn`t as spicy as you would expect Indian food to be. It`s a good starter place if you`re just being introduced to Indian food. Service is average and atmosphere is not very inviting. Lacks some personality. It is pricey too.

Great Food! Great Service!. We just moved to Calgary from Vancouver and we were looking for great Indian food. Well we found it! The food was amazing and delicious, the service was outstanding!<br/><br/>If you come to Calgary and want great Indian food eat at Namskar!!
UrbanBao
Overpriced. The food isn't mind blowing amazing compared to many other Indian food restaurants, it was decent but for the price and portions, I would just go elsewhere.

Delicious. The food was delicious. Definitely one of the better East Indian Cuisine Restaurants I've dined at. The portions are a little smaller than I expected but the flavour is great. The service was ok. I had trouble communicating with my server because the English lacked but other than that very nice atmosphere. I will repeat.

Great food, but whoever said that dishes are under $10 is crazy. Butter chicken is $17. Order of 2 main dishes, 3 mask and rice comes to about $50.
Pau
Great food! i tried almost everything and i like it... the food is not so spicy for those who can't tolerate spicy food... i love their mango lassi! the price is right for the buffet...

Good food - fish curry was wicked. Servers lack a bit of polish and restaurant is a total hole in the wall although location is very convenient for me.
