Review Tavernetta - Calgary

What an adorable little place! Knowledgeable staff gave great suggestions and helped customize my meal to be vegan friendly! AMAZING back yard patio to enjoy the weather (they have bug spray and sunscreen to keep you comfy!) and hit up a game of bocce.

This cozy little house on Edmonton Trail offers the best Italian food in Calgary. Their gnocchi is my favourite! It’s perfect and delicious in every way. Their meatballs and calamari (not deep fried) are also top notch. You can’t go wrong with any menu item. They also have an extensive wine list, local beers, and great cocktails! The best thing about Tavernetta though are the people who work there. They are so friendly, caring, and amazing at what they do! Definitely check this place out. You won’t be disappointed!

We had a fantastic evening for a birthday party with over 30 guests. The food and wine was excellent and the gnocchi and meatballs brought out at the very end was a highlight for sure. The owners and staff were fun, friendly and exceptional hosts. A hidden gem, this is a great place to have a large party and I look forward to going back for lunch and dinner.

Love the food, service and ambiance. You feel like you’re going over to a friend’s house for dinner. It’s intimate, warm and inviting. The patio in the back is quaint and romantic with the lights. There’s a cute little bocce court in the back, which is fun. They have a fantastic sparkling rose. Apparently it originally started with a lot of influences from Northern Italy, and have moved South this year with their inspiration. The food we had and would recommend include: - Crostini with olive condimento and beet and beet and eggplant nduja. - Meatballs - Bucatini, ravioli and calebresi - pistachio cookie

Delicious food, great atmosphere and excellent service. The pasta is cooked perfectly and everything is family style, which is a nice change.

It’s like an explosion of flavour in each dish! We only had enough room in our bellies for three dishes but I would love to go back and try more! The service was great and the space is super unique.

Great location right on Edmonton trail before 16av N. Cute house converted into a restaurant. Very cozy. Not great for persons with mobility issues: steps at the entrance and fairly narrow walking spaces inside. You can bring kids but the menu and ambiance is better suited for adult diners. Street parking plus a few parking stalls off the back alley is very convenient. Great looking patio but due to bad weather we sat inside. Summer veggie citrus salad had excellent flavour though I prefer my cucumber crisp vs soft to an almost pickled consistency. Everything else was ok. Calamari was too soft. Fussilli was too hard (and I like al dante pasta). Beef Tartare was pretty good with the crostini but you need to order the bread as an add on. Cannoli looked good but shell was too thick and hard. I could hardly cut through it with a knife. Prob just go back for drinks if I was in the area.

Great food, great staff, lovely cozy atmosphere! Love their Venetian inspired happy hour with chiccetti (Italian tapas).

I was very eager to check this place out after a friend recommended it and was quite disappointed. Where to start? From the get go, the service was mediocre at best. I very rarely criticize service, but our waiter was far from engaging or helpful. I mentioned off the start that I was a vegetarian and asked which menu options could be vegetarianized. He abruptly asked ‘do you eat fish’? And suggested something with anchovies. Weird. So when I said no, I was the no meat or fish kind of vegetarian he offered only two choices that needed to be modified. Since when is it hard to find a decent veggie option in a pasta place? I see other reviewers raving about their homemade bread, but we weren’t offered any. We shared a salad that was over-dressed and lacked seasoning. Could have used some cracked pepper at least but this was never offered. My partner and I each ordered a pasta main. His was a meat-filled ravioli and I ordered a tomato based pasta. His arrived to the table first. As my BF would never consider eating a bite without me he waited for mine to arrive. After a few minutes the server came and informed us the meal is served family-style. Also weird when only one of us eats meat. He still waited for mine to arrive so his got cold before mine came. Mine main was ok...pretty plain tomato sauce and pasta. Again, lacked seasoning. I love fresh pepper on pasta and this wasn’t offered. We weren’t asked how things were tasting or checked in on once after our mains arrived. All in all, the food was nothing memorable. The bill was presented by a different server, and she was the highlight of our experience. She had to inform us the debit machine was down and we had a good laugh asking if they accepted cash. I’m not sure if it was just an off-night for the team, but we both left feeling disappointed.

I love this place! The Caesar salad is the BEST! The gnocchi was heavenly (please bring it back :) and so was the ravioli. The menu is inventive and changes from time to time. The best food I've had for a long time. And I can't wait to go back.

I had a chance to finally give these guys a go this past weekend with friends. I don't eat animals so they made me a custom dish that was fantastic! I also had the pear salad which was delicious. My meat eating friends raved about the meatballs and assorted skewers so if you're an animal eater then looks like you're in good shape with Tavernetta also. The real kicker though is the staff. You're not gonna get a more welcoming atmosphere anywhere in the city (unless these guys open a second place I suppose). 5 stars all around. Great job guys!

This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the best contemporary Italian in town. The tavernetta's salient features are its great location, laid back atmosphere, cozy backyard patio, and expert staff with decades of experience in Calgary's top restaurants. If you love someone, bring them here for the bucatini. Looking forward to playing bocce here when the court is finished.

Hmmm, the picture up top does not show how the place looks like, while it is actually a sweet combination of urban rustic chic. What ever, I discovered the place today while they served an all vegetarian 3 course meal, what was super amazing and delicious.�����

We recently visited with a group of friends and our five year old son and our experience was an 11/10! Tony and Chris treated all of us like family, the food was INSANE, honestly THE best food in YYC. We enjoyed delicious cocktails and a wonderful family style meal. Tony even walked to a store to get our son an ice cream cone when he overheard our son mention he was excited to have ice cream for dessert! This restaurant should be on every Calgarian's list to visit and we cannot wait to come back again! Thank you Tony and Chris and all the staff at this incredible restaurant!

The food is delicious and the ambiance is wonderful. There's snog enough for in your plate for the price you pay. I felt like I was eating a kid size portion. Very disappointed. The service was good. Having everything on one bill disappointing. I prefer a bill for each person. Having one bathroom for the entire place wasn't convenient.

Great new neighbourhood spot. Went with group of 5 and split and tried several dishes. Loved everything. Good price point and great time. We will be back!

What a find! Only open a month but they are on it. Great food, casual atmosphere and great service. The patio out back is the bomb!

Loved the lamb ragu and the meatballs. Casual and friendly atmosphere with unbelievable food. Definitely worth going back.
