Review Vin Room - Calgary

Christine Good
I thoroughly enjoyed dinner with friends at the Vin Room. Waitress was attentive and quick. The food was very nice. I enjoy unique food and good wine so it was a win win for me.
Derek Jackson
Great selection of wines. I recommend the pork belly tacos and the mussels from the tapa menu. Watch out for the spicy horse radish.

Had a lovely dinner and experience here last night. Great atmosphere and a fantastic waiter. Very well taken care of and would come back again. Try the lamb, it's to die for!

Greg and his team organized a great experience for my aunt and uncle’s Christmas gift. We loved everything - the wine and food were perfectly paired and I really appreciated that they took everything I shared with them about wine preferences into consideration. And our server was very knowledgeable. Not to mention how each course was perfectly timed out. It was a fabulous time for all!!

I was there this past Tuesday at about 5:35 for happy hour. Service was slow which was completely fine as there were a few other people on the patio. When I finally had the chance to order it was 6:03 and was told that the kitchen staff would be mad and not happy if I ordered off of the happy hour menu. I’m not one to complain or write reviews but if that is how an establishment is going to act then it’s fair game. Plenty other BETTER establishments in Mission.

We had Happy Hour and dinner here tonight with some friends. We had a great time with some great food and service! This is the New York Sour

I would advise NO ONE go to this restaurant!! It took 25 min to get our first drink, they then burned our appetizer and failed to tell us so after 50 minuets we asked what was going on and that was when we were told. No apology. After no ask of a second drink and over an hour after being seated our meal came. The salmon was raw inside. We told the manager and instead of him apologizing and trying to rectify the situation he told us it’s how the chef cooks the salmon. It was RAW in the middle. The manager then told us he comped the salmon (which it’s not a comp if the guest can’t even eat it) and only took care of the appy. When we said we felt that between the service and issues with the food the bill should not be paid he told us they can’t do that. When my husband kept explaining the issue the manager got aggressive and snatched the bill off the table and said fine don’t worry about it. I have never been treated like that by a manager. He did not listen to our concerns, was argumentative and then argued with us about how the food was done properly. Completely in shock we left hungry, frustrated and upset.

I really wasn't happy with the Vin room. I expected more It took forever to get our food and the food really isn't that great The area for your fur baby is very small and from what I remember the other location in the deep south that I had gone to last time actually had a menu for my baby and they offered more. But I honestly will never return to this location again.

We went for the first time last night and it was a great experience. They have a very extensive wine list, and our server, who is also aSommelier, stepped in to choose delicious wines for us to sip. We went with friends, and because we were so busy catching up, we asked our (wonderful) server to choose a selection of ‘small plates’ for us as well. He did a great job choosing a selection of sharable goodies, which were delicious! It may have been our first visit, but it won’t be our last.

This was a fantastic tapas restaurant, the best tapas ever, service was phenomenal and staff were so nice to talk to, so many staff took the time to talk. I would highly recommend going there, you will not be disappointed!!

Fantastic food and the staff are amazing! Thanks Jordon and other staff! Amazing evening. And the Sangrias aren't bad too!

Great wine selection, atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff very friendly and professional.

The vin room is a lovely wine bar in Calgary with an excellent selection of vino and food. The restaurant offers many wines in 2 oz tastings so you can find something you like before ordering a whole glass or bottle. The service has been prompt but a bit unpleasant each time I have been to this location. Not a major concern but it always turns me off when my server gives off an annoyed feel when they are serving me. <br/><br/>The vin room also has a hoot hour everyday from 3-6pm where they offer food and drinks specials.

The roof top patio is one of the best in the city. Great food, fantastic wine. The staff are top notch when it comes to wine suggestions and the pairings for food.<br/><br/>They have recently changed their Happy Hour options, great selection of food and wines.   Happy Hour starts again after nine if you have been to a movie or the theatre and want to stop on the way home.

I had a fantastic experience booking a group dinner at the Vin Room in Mission. The group menu choices were delicious and very well priced. The Wine tasting and atmosphere in the downstairs Cellar was a fabulous way to celebrate with a group. Alan was very great to work with to prepare for the event and they were very accommodating with last minute changes.

Had dinner and wine here last night and it was AMAZING!! Every dish was even better than expected - we had the croquettes, scallops, flat iron steak, and duck breast. I'd go back for all of it again! The staff were very attentive (without being too much) and always made sure our glasses were topped up. We lingered over wine and never felt rushed out like some other places do, even though every table was full. Top notch Vin Room!.
FoodAndMussels
I didn't mind Vin Room. It's a decent place for wine lovers or to go on a date to a place that's quiet and well designed and furnished. The tapas were good and the wine selection is great. Don't come here super hungry though, this place isn't designed for you to walk out full with your top button open. But you will walk out slightly buzzed and satisfied.
Loves2eat
The food here is great. The must try dish from Vin Room are the scallops (wish the serving was larger). Although the waiter messed up order, I was really impressed with the knowledge he had about their cheeses and wines. Be prepared to spend a good amount of cash on your meal.

If duck is on the Vin Room's menu, get the duck. The duck we were served was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfection, it had a nice fatty skin with the juiciest pink duck meat I've ever had. Lean, but with enough fatty juices inside, the dish was full of flavour.<br/><br/>I sat down to a private five-course meal ($125 with wine pairings) and Vin Room did not disappoint. I don't think it's ever disappointed me in my visits, which makes me a question why I don't come here often enough. Everything was pretty spectacular. The Flatiron steak was medium-rare, it had so many juices flowing off of it with each cut. Mixed with the sauteed mushrooms and other savoury vegetables, this was definitely a crowd-pleaser. The meal also started with a Paella Arrancini which was a very unique take on two culturally different rice dishes. The crunchy rice ball with the warm and soft paella rice inside with a bit of shrimp was instantly gone in a few bites.<br/><br/>I'd recommend Vin Room for a fancy dinner without a second thought. Especially if you enjoy wine. There's plenty of selection and with our set-course meal, they paired their food well with their drink. It's a great experience.<br/><br/>If you go as a big group, there's a basement private dining room you can access. Honestly, great place to have dinner party, especially with professional servers.

On the positive side, the wine selection is really good and the food just as excellent.<br/>I really love the cheese they offer, and they always know how to make the best pairing.<br/>On the negative side though, I've never felt like I was in a higher scale establishment despite the higher prices (even the suggested tips start at 20%) which is a bit of a let down.<br/>The patio on the roof is fairly nice, so I still go once in a while - just not the right balance between experience/cost.
Eatrundesign
One of the popular wine bars in Calgary, Vin room stocks a diverse selection of wine for tasting and a tapas style menu.
Idratherbegolfing
Overpriced & pretentious. Overpriced: Had to pay $14.50 for a vodka paralyzer (that wasn't on the menu) because: "It's in line with the price of other cocktails on the menu and the market area" Wrong! Earls across the street charges $8.50 -$10.50 for their cocktails. And the other cocktails at Vin Room are the more exotic kinds not a basic mixed drink like a paralyzer. <br/>Also had to pay $10 for 8 bland eggplant chips with a "thimble" of dipping sauce. Really?<br/>Pretentious: Told the manager $14.50 for a cocktail was ridiculous. He replied by saying: "Well I hope your day gets better". What an attitude!<br/>Used to be a good place for a happy hour drink. The three of us will not be going back."

Great experience with a great waiter. My wife and I had a really good experience at vin room this past Saturday. On a whim we decided to stop for a glass of wine after a disappointing dinner in mission. I'm really glad we did because it made our night. The selection of wine by the glass is pretty remarkable and the service we received from our waiter Sheldon was even better. We were able to tell Sheldon what we both enjoyed in wine and he picked flights tailored to our tastes. I enjoyed their music selection and it turned into a nice romantic night for two. I would highly recommend this place for anyone that enjoys wine.
Eat To Live
Wine selection and parings were excellent. Food was pretty good, although not hot. Service was ok. Atmosphere was poor. I was there last night, V Day, and the restaurant had squeezed as many 2 tops into the restaurant with not enough consideration for guest comfort. I plan to be back for drinks.
YEGirl
Really nice place for wine and chat. I like their couches. Food is not good. Scallops were dry. Prawns had this weird mango sauce. I don't know how you can go wrong with cheese cake but they did.
LP
Vin Room. Good place to try various wines. Our waiter made some excellent recommendations.

Check your bill !!. Dined with my family tonight at Vin Room Mission. The food was good, but keep in mind if there are four people in your party, the plates to share only have three portions, (prawns, scallops etc ) and it is an extra $5.00 for the additional piece. The atmosphere was nice, but make sure you check your bill. The waiter "accidentally" hit a button to add a $30.00 drink to our bill, which was already $200.00. The tip options for paying the bill started with a 20%, then a 25% option. Yikes, Do not think we will be back.

Save Your Money!. Vin Room Mission was a complete waste of time and money. The service was lacking, the menu was boring and the food was completely overpriced. My boyfriend and I ate $100 worth of food and left hungry... that is not right! I will not return.
CW
This was geniunely the worst service I've ever had. We showed up on a snowy night so we expected it to be a wee bit sleepy but perservered because we had quite a great experience at Vin Room in westsprings. Of course tapas style means you won't get your food at all once, but we timed approximately 30 mins between each course (two of which were the wrong dishes), 30 mins sitting with empty wine glasses on our table, 30 mins from the time we asked for our bill. Hate giving bad reviews... But definitely won't return :(

Love the space, service & care for allergies. My second time here and it was great again! Great little patio in the summer and cozy two-level inside.<br/>Welcomed warmly and treated amazingly throughout. <br/>They have no peanuts in the kitchen and gluten free options for almost all their meals, which is fantastic! <br/>Haven't been disappointed yet, great spot.
Victoria Nielsen
WAY overpriced. As a group of 4, we went here for dinner after hearing such good things about the restaurant. When we were seated, we were only given 2 menus...and after waiting a couple minutes for our waitress, we asked for 2 more and she sounded confused as to why we each wanted a menu. Our waitress was quite slow in coming to take drink/food orders etc. and didn't seem very educated on their gluten free options which is essential as I am Celiac. Food came quickly and was delicious, but the portions we're incredibly small and way too overpriced. We paid our way too expensive bill and ended up going elsewhere because we left hungry...will not be returning.

Excellent food and more wine than you can shake a stick at!. Great food, nice ambiance, attentive waiter.... you couldn't ask for anything more.

Great meal, Great service. My daughter and I went for supper on a Sunday evening. The menu looked interesting and attracted us to the Vin Room. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable about both the food and the wine. Plates were cleared as soon as we finished each dish. We had 4 plates plus dessert. Each dish was well presented and very tasty - the kitchen did a great job. The only complaint was with the card machine that only offered tip percentages of 20, 25 and 30%.

Loved this place, will return again.. My first time went there with friend, I was very impressed with the service and everything, very beautiful atmosphere. The food is so delicious, it is very tiny dishes, so you need a couple to not feel hungry. -:) loved it!

Peter K. Great service and food!

Awful Service Awful Food. We will never be going back to this highly priced Tapas restaurant. The service was brutal. Waited over an hour to get our food and no apology was received. The owner just walked around serving food and did not seem concerned when we said please cancel the rest of our order. People are saying to order the Lobster Nachos. They were sick! Nachos, cheese some Asian hot sauce and lobster that didn't taste like lobster. it was awful...

Pricey, pricey, pricey. A friend and I went to Vinroom for wine. In order to sample a wine before ordering a bottle, I had to pay $5.00 for a 2 ounce sampler. This is very cheap on Vin's behalf, as I should not pay to sample a $63.00 bottle of wine before ordering it. Will not be going back anytime soon.

So glad to come across this find. Restaurant was really busy and we snuck in a reservation through open table. Food was delicious, the sirloin was amazing, and the lobster nachos are as good as all the reviews. The staff were incredibly helpful and our waitress was Phoebe who is actually the owner. Overall Vin Room is a true gem and we will definitely be back.

Everything is great!. Vin Room is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a really long time, and I eat out quite a bit :) The service is really great, with lots of employees around to answer questions or check in on you. The restaurant itself is great as well. I reccomend the eggplant chips, and the lobster nachos! <br/><br/>Thank you for always providing such a great experience!

Most romantic restaurant in Calgary. I would highly recommend reservations at this charming restaurant in Mission. The service was amazing, from the feisty hostess to our very knowledge waitress when we wanted a Malbec. The food is great, and the lobster nachos and chickpea fritters are a must! Everyone is super friendly and we will definitely be back!
Karen
Went with some friends after work and loved it. Really dark in there though. I shared 4 dishes (lobster nachos, eggplant chips, prawns and double dip) and we each had a 6oz glass of Riesling. Total came to about $74 before gratuity which isn't bad. Initially I thought the food wasn't enough and I had left feeling a little hungry but after about 15 min and the food has a chance to settle I was nicely full. <br/><br/>Would visit again.

Disappointing. In one evening the Vin Room went from our favourite restaurant to one that we may not return to because of the terrible service.

Wow what an awesome place! Cool atmosphere with unique furniture. Such a cozy feel. Awesome knowledgeable staff. So much to choose from. Oh and did I mention the food was amazing!!!

Poor Service. Was super excited to try this place with my girlfriend for my birthday. The wine list was great and the food was good, but not fantastic. The service however needs work. The waiter barely stopped at our table. He introduced himself to all his other tables and made recommendations, but my girlfriend and I did not get such friendly service. After we were done our meal, the server did not return. Another server came to clear our dishes 10 minutes later. After about another 5 minutes, the second server told my girlfriend that she can bring the bill without asking if we wanted anything else like dessert or coffee. Very disappointed with the service. Will not go again.

Will defiantly return. Robert is a great sommelier and did a wonderful job at choosing our flights of wine. Our waiter Mark, was outstanding and very knowledgable. <br/>Great tapas and atmosphere, highly recommend.
Karen
Great Wine and Cheese! Beautiful atmosphere, will be back again.

Great Food Great Wine. Went with a huge group of people for a party. Got to try 3 white wines and had champagne. The australian one was my favourite. The foods that complimented the wines were very delicious, came in one or 2 plates for each dish to be shared amongst the whole table ( we had around 3-4 tables). Portions were small after sharing but there were a lot of dishes which made the meal incredibly filling. Really enjoyed being able to try such a variety of dishes all at once. Would definitely go back for another special occasion

Great top secret roof top patio. Great appies. Great wine. Great patio upstairs. All good.

One of the best dining experiences I have had in Calgary. We were so impressed with the service; friendly, sincere and knowledgeable. The food was awesome, especially the lamb meat balls which are to die for. Vin room was an awesome place for a date night.

Great Rooftop Patio. Attentive service. Yummy tapas. Great wine. Cool décor.

The Vin Room was a favourite when I lived in Mission 2 years ago. This weekend I returned and found the atmosphere and service to meet my expectations. However, the food is not what it used to be - nothing is particularly good or special, whereas I used to rave about a few of my faves that have disappeared off the menu. Still a good spot to have a few drinks and nibbles with friends, but I'll be having dinner elsewhere.
Justine Lecerf
Loved it! great food, great wine. Very romantic. definitely returning..
Heather
Very disappointing! Food was awful, went for lunch at the new 85th street location. Service was terriable. Definitely wouldn't recommend, there are many other restaurants I would go back to before the vin room.

Great Concept & Bad Execution. I will start with the good: the concept and the atmosphere are fantastic. Its brilliant that you can try multiple tasters of wine, most from very expensive bottles. For a normal night out I would not order a $200+ bottle of wine but at the Vin room you can try a taster (2 oz) for between $9-$15. The romantic atmosphere also helps with the experience.<br/><br/>The bad: the service does not match the quality of the restaurant. Our server had no idea what she was talking about both for wine and food. Its extremely annoying when you pay for a fine dining experience and the service is borderline mediocre. The food was also underwhelming, not bad just underwhelming considering the exquisite selection of wine. <br/><br/>I would recommend this restaurant for the wine experience but unfortunately that is all.

My boyfriend and I have been searching for the best restraunt to have our date nights and we found it!! Vin room in mission is the perfect place for a romantic date ( and would be a great place for ladies night !) with so many wines to choose from we were able to sample lots of 2 oz glasses that our server helped pick to pair with our food . We had some sparkiling wine with some cheese and meats to start then had some DELISIOUS tapas ( must try the grilled prawns/ lobster nachos / scallops) . We had a great table in the back of the restraunt near the kitchen and even though it seemed to be completely packed In the restraunt, we always had full drinks/ water and every time food was brought to us out server would check on us to make sure everything was ok and that we didn't need anything else. Very friendly and professional staff, great food and wine! Over all our new favorite restraunt , can't wait to take the ladies there next time!

Pleasant and enjoyable. I am new to Calgary so not familiar with the restaurants yet, it was my friend’s recommendation that decided to visit Vin Room in Mission. My partner and I don’t really go out that often but we do enjoy good wine. I was surprise with their extensive selection of wine by the glass there is definitely something for everyone’s palette. We started off with a glass of white that was recommended by our server which was nicely paired with tapas. Later with the help of onsite sommelier we enjoyed a great bottle of red. The decor was interesting a home feeling that you don’t expect a restaurant to have, but it works. Later we were told that the building its self is 125 years old and a Heritage. All in all we had a very nice time last week the service was professional with no intrusion on our night out and the food was well portioned for those like us that are not big eaters.

Unimpressed. I went to Vin Room on a date and I was super excited to go. We were seated in the upstairs on an awkward couch thing facing the whole room. It was uncomfortable. Our server had no training as a sommelier and could not offer us any insight on the wines, AND HE WORKS AT A WINE ROOM. When our food arrived, the girl who brought it to the table couldn't even tell us what she was putting down in front of us. <br/><br/>The service needs to be worked on FOR SURE. Basic training for servers on the wines and the menu is a must.
Garlic Kisses
Not good. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place because we love tapas and the prospect of trying tasters of expensive wine really appealed to us. First impressions were pretty good, the decor is really nice and I quite like the chairs. Service, however, was brutal. The server seemed confused, maybe new. When she first approached the table, she said "hi" and dropped off the waters- nothing else. No features, specials, nothing. When we asked her what the features were she seemed taken aback and then proceeded to do a terrible job explaining the 'veuve' (which I still don't get). Throughout the night, things just didn't get any better. She didn't seem to have any knowledge of their wine menu and took a long time doing everything.<br/><br/>As far as the food went, it was incredibly underwhelming. The flavours just didn't 'pop' and the kitchen has no clue how to cook duck. <br/><br/>I might go back to try a larger selections of the wine, but I'll eat before I go because the food was so disappointing.

Went to the newly opened Vin Room West last week. I am a fan of Vin Room ( the original) and was not disappointed in Vin Room West. I expected some hiccups in the early days of operation but was very pleased that most things are running well.... quite a task for a new operation. I sat with 3 other people and we all ordered different menu items. Each of us really enjoyed our meals . Some folks might think the place is expensive.... I believe I get excellent quality for the price. I also like the 2 oz portions of wine available. I can enjoy a couple of fresh glasses of excellent wine with my friends and still drive home safely.<br/>On the topic of wine.... I have been to many restaurants where the choice of wine by the glass is poorer quality and limited and and I still pay $8-10 for it.<br/>I have never been disappointed in the wine I have had at Vin . I get great advice from the servers.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE and UNCOOKED FOOD. Went to the new Vin Room on 85 Street tonight. realizing it had only been open for 2 days I expected some problems. i sent back my char because it was literally charred. Got the next one that was basically seared sushi. Gave up on the Char ordered proawns. They were raw. The manager and the owner both asked the table next to us if everything was ok never came to our table.<br/><br/>On the way out asked the one male manager if he was the manager and he said :yes one of them" I explained the above and mentioned he should have come to the table and dealt with the problem.. He said he took it off the bill (which they did) He was very indifferent to my concerns. I said I would probably not be back. This did not seem to bother him. Nor was he apologetic to this situation.<br/><br/>I guess they figure they can live off there name. When I mentiuoned maybe he could pick up his customer service his response was "my bad"<br/><br/>Really!!!!! I expected problems but was shocked at the response or lack there of from the managers.<br/><br/>Would not recommend this place ever there are great restaurants in this city with way better food wine and prices.

Was ok but probably won't go back. My friends and I went here for a girls night out, we are from Edmonton and made reservations. Upon walking in we gave our name and the first thing the girl at the from said to us was that we had to finish by 10pm because the table was rebooked. We were pretty angry and were debating leaving until our waiter came. We asked him if this was a normal thing to be told and he said not to worry and enjoy our time. If it weren't for our waiter I would have been much more disappointed. They were also out of a few menu items as well as the bottle of wine we wanted to order. Overall I was pretty unimpressed and found the menu overly expensive. The cheese and the portions were good but in all honesty I probably wouldn't go back.

Great atmosphere! We enjoyed the lamb sticks, steak, and chips!! Calamari was disappointing. Definitely will come again!!!
Llm54
Half and half. The wine is excellent and the good is so so. Ordered the calamari and it's frozen vegetables out of a bag with lots of butter and some seafood. Nachos were good, meat balls were good but not great. Service was ok, again not great, not bad.
S
Very disappointing, food is in bad quality and the presentation is far from what I saw on urbanapoon! Absolutely won't go back again and will never !recommend to friends!
TraceyCharlotte
Cozy and Sexy. The wine and service are quite enjoyable.
Hitting The Sauce
Great roof top patio. What an awesome place to sample some new wines. The venue is great - the rooftop patio would be an ideal place to host a party. Service was very attentive - from wine suggestions (my fave Rockford) to moving us from the patio when it became too windy. Great place to start or end the night. Will be a regular spot for me now.
YummyYummy
Great food, Great waiter, Reasonably priced. My two roommates and I had a wonderful experience at Vin Room last week. Our waiter gave us a wonderful wine recommendation and all the food we ordered was above average. We got the squash dahl, lamb kebabs, scallops, calamari, and lobster nachos. All had their own taste and for three people, 5 dishes and a nice bottle of wine, we paid about $40 each- not bad if you ask me!
Cmcgregor
A new favorite. Great food, well prepared and presented. Love the emphasis on local ingredients. Service was helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Beautiful space as well.
Littleben32
We had an amazing waiter, had lots of different tasters, all we're perfect... Small portions, but the quality made up for it.
Lmh
I love this place! The food is always fabulous, and the atmosphere is great. Huge wine list. One of my favorite charcuteries in the city! Amazing rooftop patio for the summer. They also take resos which is nice, as so many hotspots in Calgary dont anymore. Service is slightly lacking, but the owner makes up for it and is always there helping her staff to greet, serve, expo, & bus. I wouldnt be surprised if she washes dishes too! I'll go back any day of the week.
David OFB
Good interesting food and great wine selection. As others have said it is a bit pricey for what you get, but quality is there.
Pianissimo
Vin room. Dark chocolate & espresso terrine - really like<br/>Marinated olives- like<br/>Truffled honey- like (I like anything with truffle :D)
Eat Me
Obviously great wines, love the options. Not necessarily the best value, but delicious tapas and great service. The rooftop is lovely in the summer. I like ordering 3-4 tapas as dinner and sharing with my dining partner. The duck/saskatoon berry/squash dish is super rich and tasty, as are the lamb meatballs...they melt in your mouth and are so juicy and tender! Oysters are good too but wasn't wowed (relatively) by the homemade hot sauce...
Foodie
Adore Vin Room. Loved Vin Room. The oysters are amazing. The Tapas are a delight. Service is wonderful. Will be back.

A second chance made all the difference. Although my first experience at the Vin Room left quite a bit to be desired (extremely slow and inattentive server, the incorrect drink being made and then removed from the bill with so-so food) we decided to give it another try. This decision proved to be a great one! On our second visit we had sat in the cozy upstairs section, had a fantastic, knowledgable server and really enjoy the the food (oysters, lobster nachos & marrow). I'm very pleased we gave the Vin Room a second chance and look forward to going back again!
FoodForAll
Simply Wonderful. Vin Room never ceases to amaze. From the food, to the extensive wine selection, to the fabulous service, and the beautiful decor, I always have an amazing experience. I came in for lunch recently (I'm shocked not enough people know how great their lunch menu is) and enjoyed the delightful service provided by Christian. He has served me before, always has a tasty wine suggestion, and provides an overall great experience. If only Calgary had more servers like this!!

A Seriously Divine Experience. I recently moved to 4th st and have been trying to get around to as many of the restaurants in the area to try and see what's good. Passing Vin Room several times, it always looked quite busy so I was eager to see what the buzz was about. I scanned the menu online and couldn't wait to make it in for lunch for the tasting menu. We went in and immediately you can understand why the place is always busy, the space is on the small side but it's quaint and welcoming with a modern appeal. A giant warm fire place also did the trick to warm us right up. When it came to food I ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings and my boyfriend ordered a glass of riesling and the Chorizo sandwhich. The service was amazing, our server was the perfect balance between friendly and professional and seemed to have an outstanding knowledge base of both the wine list as well as the menu. We both couldn't say more about the food! Everything that was placed in front of us was amazing. We honestly couldn't rave more. Even the $14 sandwich was warm and fresh and my pasta was tender and the sauce was the perfect creamy texture. Each of the wines paired perfectly and although it was a bit of the wait for the dessert it was well worth it. I have to say that was one of the best, if not thee best dessert I have had in quite some time. At $35 the tasting menu left me full and the wines were a great match. Between the great interior, good music, tasty wines, fantastic service and divine food I am surprised people don't give Vin Room more praise. (We are even contemplating making new years reservations!)
Bryan Birn
Very very overpriced. The service is slow. This was my first time there, so I can't say if this is usual, but I won't be going back any time soon.
Greenbean
Not by the hair of my Vinny Vin Vin. The first time my husband and I tried to go there the place was empty and when we walked in the staff just stared at us. We waited awkwardly for 5 minutes before turning around and heading across the street where the service is much better. Thinking it was perhaps just an off night I returned with several good friends. We ordered a bunch of food and wine. When two of my friends asked for some crackers with their cheese plates, they were charged an additional $6.00 for a few ritz crackers. We talked with our waitress saying that she had said that the cheese plate came with crackers and that $6.00 was a bit much. The manager came over and said "It was their policy to charge for crackers." So ridiculous and petty! I won't be going back.
Luella
LOVE IT!!!. Went to Vin Room the other day, the restaurant has a great feel to it, the food was amazing and the serving staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I will be back!

No more!!. My wife and I went to Vin Room 2weeks ago.<br/>We had to wait wait wait wait and wait.<br/>The restaurant was not busy and there were only few weitresses and one woman like the owner.<br/>The woman was very rude to us.<br/>We complained the wine was too ugly taste and very old after opened. The woman suggested another woman. That was OK but, she charged us both of wine.<br/>around 100dollars. They had shouldn't charge us old one. We wasted money and times. Give us back!!!!!!!

Friday post work diversion. We headed to the Vin Room last Friday to have a casual after work meal and wine. It's perfect for those nights when you just want to chill and not eat an over powering meal. Started off with a flight of California blends, then off to Spain and finishing off in Burgundy. We had the little lamb kabobs, the pork belly and a mix of meats and cheeses. The food at Vin is good and the wine selection is above average. The odd thing we found on this visit was the amount of wine being sampled by the manager. While he was swirling, sniffing and taking multiple tastes over the few hours that we were there, he must have been up to 2 or 3 glasses! He seemed a little pickled when we left. Strange.

Great Vino - awesome space.. This is a perfect cocktail bar/restaurant. The food is great and the selection of wines ~ delightful.<br/>Encourage you to check it out, great for a gals night or... a date with your fave person! : )

Pretty Good but not great. I was there last night and had a few different tapas and the ones I had were pretty good. I had Oysters which was good, a bison brisket that was medocre at best, jerk chicken that was average and stuffed bone marrow that was really good. Service was mediocre at best. I would go back but wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

WoW!!. The first minute we walked into the Vin Room I had a feeling it was gonna be a special night but I had no idea I would leave "Blown Away"!<br/><br/>From the moment we were met at the door, our jackets taken and being seated, the staff made us feel special and welcome!<br/><br/>I was fortunate enough to have met the Owner Phoebe and she was Amazing with her walk thru of the menu and what they had to offer.<br/><br/>The Menu was Outstanding and made me smile before even tasting my first bite. The Grilled Cheese to the Lobster Nachos and the wine to go with each were mouth watering and flavourful.<br/><br/>Thank You Phoebe and Staff for a Wonderful Experience!<br/><br/>We'll Be Back!

Memorable Experience. Recently went to the Vin Room and it was a top notch experience from start to finish. The wines were incredible and the tapas and wine pairings they gave us were second to none. The food alone was worth the visit but the wines put our experience over the top. The Vin Room will be on my short list of places to go in Calgary.

Great place. A friend and I had dinner there last night and it was great! Our server was very helpful with recommendations of both wine and food and she seemed to really take pleasure in helping out. We got a charcuterie board and then some tapas, with a glass of wine to match each "course". It was a great relaxing dinner and incredibly delicious. We had the smoked pork tenderloin and 2 cheeses for our board, which came with mustard, pickled carrots, fig jam and pear puree. Our tapas plate was the chef's choice of 4 (polenta bites, beet salad, pork ribs and chorizo) and it was really excellent. Those pork ribs were my favorite, savory with a hint of sweet. My only gripe was the scary price of the glasses of wine! We didn't notice that each 6oz glass we ordered was about $18 each!! One was really fantastic, the other was a bit off, but that was a surprise when the bill came. All told though, it was a great, friendly, warm, delicious place to have a meal. And if I could name our server here, I would, because she deserves recognition for a meal well served!!

Amazing!. Love Vin Room! I get excited when I think about it, and whenever people ask where my favourite place to eat in Calgary is, my answer is always Vin Room! The selection of wine is unbelievable. Very pleased with the menu, knowledgable staff and comfortable, intimate atmosphere :)

Foodie. I'm frustrated because the main reason to venture out and try was because my bday is coming up and I wanted to make reservations for the near future and wanted to try the menu. We got to the patio on a sunny afternoon - at 3pm and was handed the "short" menu, of cheeses and cured meats - that's it. Period. Three of the items we tried to order including wine were out. My intention was to eventually make reservations for 8 to 12 friends, I wanted to try the menu items they were recognized for and apparently have a reputation for- I ask you this..if you have a fantastic patio, the sun is shining (on a Friday of a long weekend), why is the kitchen on lock down for two hours - its a tapas menu, how and why do you need two and a half hours of downtime??? Overpriced for what we were limited to. Too bad cause I really wanted to love it.

Every Time. I've been to Vin Room 4 times. First to try it. Second to give it a second chance. Third and Fourth dragged by friends that I tried to warn. <br/>Each and every visit I left feeling ripped off. Wine list is good. Atmosphere trendy. But the food is not fabulous (and the prices fool you into thinking it will be) and the service was so SLOW and non attentive each time. I don't mind a liesurely dinner, but 20 minutes to wait for a glass of wine is ridic. At one point the waiter REEKED of cigarette smoke when he came back to the table. All signs point to this place being great...but felt let down and dispappointed each visit. Can't say I didn't try...I wanted to like. oh well.
Love To Dine Out
Patio perfect. Four of my girlfriends enjoyed an evening upstairs on the patio. From the street it looked empty but upstairs was hopping. The eggplant chips with a duo of sips is a must have. we also had the polenta fries with fresh Parmesan on top. Super yummy. Mains were fish tacos not bad but a little soggy, lamb chops and beef shortribs. The portion size was good for trying lots of dishes as I had some appie a salad and my main. The service out of the kitchen was slow but we were there for a long visit and the time between courses gave time for the previous dish to settle. I would go back on a heartbeat but perhaps hope I wasn't seated beside five really chatty women!

Loved it until....... The waiter told us we had to leave within 45min because our table was booked and we would't have time for desert. After spending a ton on at least 16 glasses of wine and delish food for 4 people, he kissed his very generous tip good bye.

Delicious croquettes!. Really enjoyed this place, had a taster of white wine and some of their croquettes with serrano ham. They were wonderful and reminded me of my vacation in Spain last year, tasted exactly like the ones we had there.<br/><br/>Waitress was friendly and helpful and the decor was very cool. I can't wait to sit on the patio in the summer and try some of the other tapas.

Great wine. A friend and I came here after reading the reviews on Urbanspoon. The knowledgeable staff helped us choose a fantastic wine and paired it with the best cheese I have ever had. It was on the pricey side but you do pay for quality and friendly, professional staff. I have recommended the Vin Room to friends and will absolutely be back!

Superb!. If you like your wine and you like variety this is the place for you.<br/><br/>Nothing like it in the city. Cool, trendy, sexy, whatever you might call it it's all about the wine. Great atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and wonderful food.<br/><br/>Did I mention the wine?<br/><br/>Check it out... you will not be disappointed.

Very trendy restaurant. It wasn't the easiest to locate and parking wasn't abundant. The food sizes are like tapas and delicately created. While the menu items are a little on the expensive side, the quality of the food was excellent. The waiters were also able to pair up wine tastings elegantly with each set of dishes. Worth the visit if you want to have some classy tapas with great wine.

Vin Room. The lobster salad is still on the menu but the short rib pie is gone....the newly added Salisbury steak patty more than makes up for it though!!! <br/><br/>Check out the Ojai Rose by the glass while it lasts....

Vin Room .....Yummmmm. So if you like wine and want to experiment with different ones, this is the place to go. 65 bottles that are available by the glass and all kept fresh by the miracle of modern technology. The food is also fantastic! The braised shortrib ravioli and the lobster salad are to die for!!!<br/><br/>One thing to bear in mind is that the food here, while fantastic, is more on the scale of tapas. So if you expect to fill up, be prepared to order a number of dishes and for the ensuing price tag.

Vin Room prawn and lobster roll with a side salad for $14. OMG this dish had my lunch date moaning as she worked her way through this decadent sandwich that had surprisingly large chunks of lobster meat in a herb aioli, I'm talking entire claws here people.

Both the tapas menu and the wine list are expansive, which made it near impossible to choose. After consultation with two different waiters, we settled on eggplant chips, squash dahl, lamb kabobs, and the supposedly famous lobster nachos. Vin Room was a couple weeks ago, so the best I can muster is a quick recap:
Anna's Appetite
Ahh, the Lobster Nachos. I saw a lot of people ordering this so Ben and I figured we’d give it a go. To be honest I thought this dish was good, I love lobster and I love nachos. I just kinda thought it might have been a bit of waste to have lobster served like this. Maybe it’s because I’ve always seen lobster as something that was expensive and should be served in a very expensive way. Therefore, but seeing it served on a bed of nachos took me a li

I was really impressed with Vin Room this time around, and I would give it four stars - great food, and great wine. I can't wait to check out the patio in the summer!

I had the three course lunch feature at the Vin Room last weekend. The feature, updated every week, offers patrons an appetizer, entree and dessert for $25 dollars. Wine pairings are also available for an extra $10.

Nolan’s 27th Birthday was this past Monday March 8th. I had secretly planned him a surprise birthday party at Crush with his friends and family. Well not so much of a surprise because he is snoopy and was suspect of what was going on that evening and alth

Our first course for the evening was actually three different dishes, ‘sub-courses’ if you will?
Scrumptiously Fit Food
Would definitely go back, great place to catch up with friends while trying a bunch of different dishes.

Located in Mission, Vin room is probably for wine lovers, but also serves up some great Tapas. Not being a wine drinker myself, I can't really tell you what my friend was drinking. The staff is very knowledgeable and can make suggestions.   The beef carpaccio was pretty good, a tiny bit warm and a little too much olive oil for my taste, but overall was still good. The crabcakes were the special this evening, very good.  This is the upstairs of vin room, comfy unique decor with a rooftop patio.
Are You Gonna Eat That
It's got great small plates, amazing wines (and wine experts), a beautiful space and the city's best rooftop patio .

The prospect of 64 wines by the glass was just too good to pass up at Vin Room...

For prices in the $5~$15 range for most, I was curious to know what the portions were like but certainly on paper, it didn’t seem like a place for a full on, sit down meal.
