I've been a customer for years!! Love this place ❤️ Great atmosphere, Great food 🥪, Great staff!!
Best staff, cheap kids menu, addictive cinnamon rolls, fresh everything, and 99 cent filter refills! Everything I want in a bakery so good.
Very nice place!! Have gone there for many years -- remember taking grandchildren there -- and they are now 18 and 21 years old!
The cinnamon buns and ginger dreams rule!
Fantastic food, excellent service, and all the yummy treats a bakery is known for!! Worth every penny you spend there.
Great and quick service today even though it was busy!
So cute and loved the freshness . Will be back
Good grub , good coffee what else u want. Also just off the river walking path even better
Provided fabulous bagged lunches today for the band. Thank you!
I'm a fan!!! This spot was introduced to me by a buddy who recently took me there...so good. The vibe is great and the staff are super friendly. The food is delicious. I had to have the eggs Benedict cause I was told they are amazing and they totally exceeded eggspectations. LOL. Heard they cater too so I will definitely take advantage of that! Check it out.
Nice place little cafe to grab a quick coffee and pastry or bfast/lunch. They have a small parking lot in front but it can fill up quick fast so you might have to park on the street nearby. I totally recommend the butter croissant, it was nicely golden brown, super crunchy on top and the inside was super soft. My husband got the omlete where you can pick a choice of 4 ingredients and it came with hash browns and toast. I had a bite and it and thought it was tasty as well. I decided to get the French toast and choose it with raisin bread. The bread was thick and fluffy. The matcha latte was not that great and would not get it again.
THE best brunch in forever. Pancakes were like no other Ive had before. Quality was just beyond amazing. I've been here several times before, but with a brunch out with the family, everything about this meal sang! Flat white was great, wife LOVED her sandwich and salad and service was great. Something as simple as a grilled cheese and the breand and crispiness of it was just fantastic. Will definitely be making the trip in again from Airdrie!
Amazing service, very friendly. Was looking for the perfect soup/sandwich combo, found it and had no complaints. Would recommend to anyone with the same cravings.
Always fresh. Friendly atmosphere. Filled with local artwork and prints for sale. Love it! I've talked to the manager about having done of my prints hung
This place was super packed when I got here probably because it was lunchtime. I love how you can make your own sandwich by simply checking off the ingredients they offer on the paper which, let me tell you, made it very efficient. Service was also super quick and the food arrived promptly. The sandwich itself was delicious and filling. The ambience here was very nice and I would love to come here for lunch again. Definitely tempted to order some of their sweets while I'm at it.
I really love soup and sandwich shops. This is one of my favorites. The portion sizes are great. I have never been here for breakfast just lunch and the soups and sandwiches are fabulous. I must agree with many of the others who have reviewed, that the service is terrible and the staff are disengaged. I will always drop in when I'm in the area for lunch because I can deal with crappy service if the food is good.
Good food, good baking, custom sandwiches... sometimes a little slow and sometimes a little expensive... but honestly, I keep coming back - so clearly they have a winning combination for a lot of people.
Cute place with pretty good food and excellent coffee. It's a bakery/ diner so lots of baked goods to choose from. Excellent bread for colossal sized sandwiches. We usually go there for breakfast if we're in the area since there's not a lot of breakfast places to choose from in the NW. Be prepared to wait if you go on the weekend
I love this place! My favourites are the pancakes and sandwiches. The only thing that could make this place better is if the people who worked here were a little friendlier and didn't act like customers are an inconvenience.
A very cozy restaurant with good sandwiches, soups, and coffee. The kettle bread is delicious, and it's really nice to be able to customize your sandwich. Service is always pretty friendly and quick.
This place is adorable. Great service too. My boyfriend and I came by at 12 on a beautiful Saturday and sat outside. They were lined up but we got a table. Looked like they had just gone through a huge breakfast rush because every table was covered in dishes. We ordered and then headed outside to get a table. We had to clean it off ourselves.
Their coffee is really great. I like dark rich coffee, not acidic, so this was perfect for me.
Our food was ready pretty quick. We both ordered a half turkey sandwich. Previously had the chicken noodle soup which was wonderful, really tasty. The bf got the Mexican soup this time which was also good. I had the beet and Mandarin salad as my side. The turkey sandwich has lots of veggies and cranberry sauce. It is deli turkey not roast turkey, which for the price with a soup or salad is a bit high. My half turkey, beet salad, and a drink was $17.00.
They have lots of bars, cakes, squares. We also got the millionaire shortbread which was a real treat! Caramel, shortbread, and chocolate.
On a previous occasion I had egg, hashbrowns, toast, and bacon. The poached egg was cooked a bit harder than I would have liked but was still very good. Bacon was cooked well, their house toast is delicious and has extra tasty flecks of carrot in it. It's a nice hearty bread.
Jesus, this place is always busy. First time I was in town with K, we were going to drop in for a bite but Lazy Loaf & Kettle was so packed, we decided to go elsewhere. Well, this time I came by myself to grab her some food while she studied (I know, I know, I’m such a good friend). Weekends are busy busy. I dropped by early Saturday afternoon and there was a massive line for takeout. No worries though, it moves pretty fast.
Best sandwich place in Calgary. Sandwiches are very fresh and good. They have the best chocolate cake I've ever had. Small place very busy at lunch time, parking lot fills up quick. But worth it.
First of all, this place is always busy. It's hard to find a table and even a to go order is going to take 15-20 minutes. Don't be a sicker and try to park in front of it, there is a huge reserved parking lot half a block west. Service is hit and miss, sometimes it's a super nice, peppy cashier, sometimes it's a stressed out, cranky one.
Food portions are excellent value. The sandwiches are stacked with the toppings of your choosing with no extra charges aside from extra meat and cheese. They are made properly, even after getting home, not soggy. Soups are very good, butternut squash and apple was incredible. The bread we choose, as they were out of the house loaf, was a bit over powered by the spices, but good nevertheless.
Went around 4:30pm on a Wednesday so it wasn't busy at all! Custom made our sandwiches and they were served to us within minutes! Fresh veges and meat, bread was thick but a little tough. Overall, good sandwich but nothing special. Very homey place, love the atmosphere! Will definitely return to try some Mac n Cheese, soup, and a slice of cake!
Cute sandwich place with a huge parking lot that is always busy. I like that you can pick whatever you want on your sandwich and they make it and bring it out to you. Everything tastes delicious and fresh, even the side salad that came with my mac n cheese. It's not a super hip, modern place but more of a cute homey type of cafe that I would recommend for grabbing lunch at.
Best sandwiches in Calgary!!! Fresh bread made daily. Mac n Cheese was oven baked and DELISH!!!! Great little cozy place with a great variety of teas and coffees and desserts! YUM!
This is one of the best cafes for sandwiches & desserts in Calgary. I went with three other friends and we got mostly chicken sandwiches with soups or salads. It's a hidden gem. You can go casually and have a good time with your friends.
This place is fantastic! Locally owned, chill atmosphere, terrific homemade goods, sandwiches, and soups at an affordable price. I will go back for sure and recommend this place to everyone!
Lazy Loaf is a hidden gem, yet a very busy one at that! I don't even attempt to go at breakfast or lunch hours on weekends cause they are so packed. Staff seems friendly, unless you catch them at a stressful time. The custom sandwiches are great as well as the baked goods! They recently switched over their coffee to Rosso and it is so much better than what they had before! I wish they served it on espresso too though...
All in all a good place to get fresh, tasty food if you're in the area!
Lazy Loaf and Kettle has been a fixture in my life since I began to first go to school and then work near the Parkdale area (I work at the Foothills Hospital just up the hill) and after over 8 years, it hasn't changed at all - the location is still busy, and the food is still delicious!
Lazy Loaf serves both custom sandwiches, hot food, and breakfast, in addition to coffees, soups, and a baked goods case that is not good for my wallet or waistline. The sandwiches blow Subway way, WAY out of the water - the bread is their house Kettle Bread (which you can also purchase to take home) and is always soft and hearty. You fill out an order sheet with your desired veggies (I always get alfalfa sprouts, avocado, and cucumber) and condiments (I am a picky eater and only get butter, but there are lots of options). There are several filling choices, including an all veggie option, turkey, smoked meat, tuna or salmon salad, roast beef, and ham.
On days when I want hot food, they regularly have lasagna and macaroni and cheese (which is amazing) and also rotate hot specials: my favourite days are the tuna melt or the bacon and mushroom alfredo pasta. They serve all of their entrees (hot or sandwich) with either soup or salad. The salads are great - very evenly dressed, but my heart belongs to the soup. The 'meaty' soups like beef barley and chicken noodle are actually more meat and pasta rather than broth, but their all veggie cream soups (Red Pepper Bisque) are rich and fantastic!
I never manage to leave here without a baked good of some sort - the cinnamon rolls are massive (the size of my face) and their marshmallow squares, while simple, are always the perfect state of gooey. They have daily specials for bread (my favourite is the rosemary and thyme), and an assortment of cakes and other cookies.
Ordering is fairly easy although during peak hours the lines can get long as there is only two cashiers. I wouldn't recommend Lazy Loaf if you are in a hurry - food usually takes at least 10-15 minutes, even for the cold sandwiches but it's a lovely place to have a leisurely meal. Warning though: they close the kitchen for hot food fairly early, so if you're going after 5 PM you'll likely be stuck ordering a regular sandwich - and they have run out of food before closing before!
There is parking in front of the restaurant (angle only) but it's very busy and the lot is almost always full.
I'll come here again, and again, and if you're at the hospital for any reason, it's a MUCH better option than the cafeteria food!
Delicious food. The sandwiches are delicious. Great bread. Great choices. All around a very good meal ! My sandwich came missing a few ingredients (avocado & hot peppers) but still very delicious ! Caesar salad is amazing - evenly coated lettuce. All in all a great lunch spot !
Good. Way better than extreme bean
A good pass. Their baked goods are definitely a strong point. The in shop food isn't terribly impressive. It's solid, but not special.
In the middle of no where.. I live on the other side of the city so this place is pretty far. The food here is pretty good, but $10 for a full sandwich is kind of stretching it. There are a lot of options to choose from, lazy loaf provides you with a sheet that has all the toppings you can pick from and its basically a build your own sandwich. I've never actually had a good experience with the wait staff before. My sandwich was missing a component so I asked for it to be added on, however the lady did not look pleased. It's a cute place, but I think they need to step up their game. I also recommend not visiting during the lunch hour considering how busy it gets.
Their smoked salmon eggs Benny was the best Benny I've ever had. The service was friendly and fast. Overall warm atmosphere throughout the place. I would highly recommend this place and will be back for many more brunches!
Baked goods (yes) Coffee (not so much). I have been to this place a few times and it always seems busy. I do like the baked goods but do not like their coffee.
If you ask me the two go together hand and hand and the coffee is not standing up to the baked goods.
It was very busy when I went, but they handled it pretty well. We had a two egg omelette, the French toast and pancakes. The omelette was a little plain, and wasn't as fluffy as ones I've had before. The French toast was good, the bread was very nice but nothing special. The pancakes however were amazing! They were so fluffy and moist, cooked to perfection I think. Very huge portions of both the French toast and of the pancakes, would recommend sharing or taking home half. The place itself has a very nice atmosphere and is a nice place to sit and have a meal or just a coffee.
Loved this place.... ...before I found out I am allergic to gluten. Best sandwiches I have ever had. I'll miss it a lot :)
Good soup + sandwhiches!. Great place to get dumped! the tomato basil soup is great.
Simple and Delicious. I can't get enough of this place! I come here a couple of times a month because it's so good. They have the freshest ingredients. I have only gotten their sandwiches but one day I want to try their breakfast. Their baked goods are really good as well. It's a little on the expensive side, but it's a nice treat once in awhile!
A comfortable place .... I went to Lazy Loaf twice last week, but have had their stuff many times via catering for work. Their portions are generous and the place is just so comfy. Love the baking - nothing I've had has been bad. Have never been there for breakfast though - that will be next!
The BEST Sandwiches. I make it a point to visit the Lazy Loaf every time I am in Calgary. The made to order sandwiches are the best I have found anywhere. They are simple and down to earth, but the in-house baked bread and loaded toppings make them something special. Order the vegetarian and you get two types of cheese.
Love it. Whenever my mom and I have a spa date, we always have lunch here. It is a quaint little place with character. The sandwiches are always super tasty and fresh, I highly recommend it!
Want More. Loved this place the moment we walked in. I'd heard about it before and decided to take my lil girl out for a coffee date. So we set the GPS and off we went on a new adventure. It was pretty easy to find even though it wasn't visible immediately.
It was afternoon and there was a small line up but it went pretty quick. Most were ordering coffee or baked goodies. I liked their sandwich deal...grab an order form, select the items you want on your sammy and hand them your order. Next time we will grab some sammy's and head down to the path by the river for a picnic.
In the meantime I had my usual, lil girl had her usual (hot chocolate with whip), she got a valentine's day cookie and I had a chocolate croissant (my weakness). Being the good wifey that I am I picked up a massive puffed wheat square for hubs and additional cookie for the boy. Lil girl and I sat down, enjoyed our treats & hot bevy's and talked about girl stuff.
It's an eclectic little place that was non stop busy. They also sell fresh made bread. Looking forward to visiting again for some more yummy goodness. Oh and the coffee was tasty too.
The best deli style sandwich I've had in Calgary. Soups always homemade and delicious too!
Finally.... YAY! A good sandwich place that rivals Peppino in moderate pricing, but no skimping on portions, flavour, time, and ingredient quality. Visited this weekend, as the place I was aiming to head was lackluster in their menu offerings. But, ho, what is this? I see a glimmer of hope from the second story signage of a building on the kitty corner, proclaiming the 'deli', and the potentially wondorous things it might contain... I had a cappucino, nice espresso, (which was a little light on the foam, for a 'dry' cap, but we can't all be perfect.) Also, a sandwich on some tasty homebaked white bread, turkey and all vegetables. It was piled so tall, the full sandwich lasted 2 meals, for $8. I brought home a few desserts (ha ha...) a tiramisu, which was the best Ive had since I moved to Calgary in 2005. Could definitely pick up the flavours of the Kahlua, espresso and good chocolate. Nice chocolate whipped cream. The ginger cookie sandwich was also a garguantuan gastronomic giggle, so much ooy gooey cream cheese icing! So rich and dense, I could only consume in quarters. The strawberry shortcake has an uber good blueberry compote type topping, which permeated the middle of the huge tower of whipped cream, strawberries, light custard and fluffy but substantial pastry. Fellow epicurian endeavourer, my paramour had a more than adequate moccaccino, and a bacon and tomato eggs benedict, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Came with a cute little ramikin of fruit salad. Nice product, freshly chopped pineapple, Granny Smith and maybe Fuji apples, grapes and the like. Eggs well cooked, Hollandaise sauce was adequate, bacon was crisp and flavourful. Potatoes were good, but apparently they forgot the salt. (if its normally that tortuous seasoning salt junk, there is no hope!) All in all, a nice find. (I may be biased, but its also incredibly close to me) I will absolutely go back.
Quick detour from edworthy for a nice afternoon bite. Perfect stopover point for a bite while rollerblading return route from eau claire to edworthy...do plan for a late lunch if you'd like to avoid the line up down the street.
GREAT LUNCH. You want soup and a sandwich well here it is!!!!!!! This place makes the best sandwichs not small at all and full of taste.. Can get very busy at luch time but they still dont seem to rush the food and make it sloppy... Worth a try for sure you wont be disappointed :)
AMAZING. This is hands down the best sandwich place I have ever gone to. They have fresh home made bread and all of their fixings are always so fresh. I could eat lunch and dinner here everyday. Now there desserts are amazing! you get such a huge serving for the what you pay and their cookies/ rice krispie squares are the best I have ever had. They are a bit more expensive, but very average compared to other places and I would pay that price over any other sandwich place any day.
They have the most amazing coffee, tea and soups! they are soooo good and just hit the spot! you leave here feeling full and so happy.
I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good sandwich place.
I would give them a 10 out of 10 and will be going back many more times.
Fresh and Best Baked Goods. I go to the Lazy Loaf quite frequently. Their baked goods are fantastic. My husband adores the giant gingersnap cookies with cream cheese in the middle. The cheesecake is to die for. They have a great selection of teas and coffees. Only downfall is this place is very popular on the weekends and fills up quickly. One of my favourite places to go for coffee, breakfast or just read a book solo with a piece of pie. Staff are always very friendly and helpful.
There's a reason this place is busy. No, its not four star, sometimes its not even clean- but its busy for a reason-fresh food and big portions.
If I'm in the area and don't mind a wait their pancakes are great-fluffy and with a nice tang of buttermilk. Despite reviews here I have never had a problem with service (once again, giving lots of latitude for the type of joint it is) just check off what you want and move to the side. Could it use a facelift? Sure. Do I care? On a Sunday morning wearing sweatpants and a hoodie no way. And whenever I order a Chai latte its hot and spicy. Just go early if you want to sit-but we've eaten in the car many times and it goes down just as well.
Lazy Friday. Yesterday evening right before the snow hit I pulled up to the Lazy Loaf and Kettle with my constant sidekick Courtney. We frequent the Lazy Loaf as it has a great atmosphere and wonderful staff.
They have amazing sandwiches on bread made in house that you can have accompanied by fresh salads, soups or both. A great assortment of tea and probably the most amazing assortment of dessert's and baked goods I have ever seen.
Yesterday I had a half Turkey sandwich fully loaded, sprouts, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and mustard with a side of Italian wedding soup and a mini spinach salad garnished with a hardboiled egg just the way I like it. The soup was a little salty but all around tasty.
I can't help but have dessert every time I am there, so I went for a big slice of chocolate cake that was actually like two amazing brownies in between layers of creamy chocolate icing, now let me tell you, this is the kind of chocolate cake that cocoa beans want to grow up to be like. I accompanied this cake with a large French vanilla coffee with a sprinkling of cinnamon.
Visit the Lazy Loaf, you will not be disappointed. I promise.
Tasty Treats. It is always busy for a reason. It has the best desserts.Pies, cakes and more. The sandwiches and breakfasts are pretty standard but still bring in the crowds so plan to wait.Try the chocolate or carrot cake!MMMMMMMMMM!
It's sometimes too cool. The few times I went there, it was too crowded. It has nice sandwiches but you cant fail layering bread, ham and raw veggies, can you? The food is good and simple (simple not in a nice way but rather in a "what is this all about?" way). It looks like a cool place for cool people. You're fortunately not required to bring a mac product with you.
