This place is a beautiful space to catch up with friends over a lovely baked treat or selection of other tasty treats including my favorite, the crepe. Fantastic service, great atmosphere and a nice spacious patio for when the sun is shining :) a favourite spot of mine for a coffee and to unwind.
Great breakfast and lunch cafe. The food is excellent and they bring it right to your table. The patio is a nice touch. I highly recommend this place.
I love this place! Amazing coffee, high quality food and such excellent service. You are always greeted with a smile, even when the staff is super busy. You feel at home. The customer base is excellent too, no one ever minds to share a table :)
Highly recommend !
The aroma of fresh pastry and Illy coffees is enough to put you in a very heavenly state. Add the friendly and efficient service and the always welcoming greeting from owner Shosh and you've got the perfect place to enjoy delicious pastries, food, and beverages. Being located on trendy 4th Street, it's always busy but I always feel it offers a warm and casual place to enjoy a meal or treat at a very reasonable price. The feel is bright and very modern European.
La Boulangerie is definitely one of Calgary's gems!!!
Lovely atmosphere! Feels just like France. The manager Shosh is amazing and takes time to get to know all of her customers. The food is all made on location and is incredible, I would definitely recommend La Boulangerie to anyone who hasn't been or is visiting Calgary! Absolutely love this place Must try the fresh fruit vanilla custard tart, it's my personal favourite.
Amazing crepes and croissants! I always make a point of stopping by when I'm in town. And yes, their brownies truly are the best in Calgary - just their sign declares!
My name is Kenzie. I come here all the time. My absolute favorite place for lunch or breakfast. Sometimes even just a snack in the middle of the day to treat myself. The orange juice is to die for btw. You HAVE TO try it. Xo
The best baked goods and crepes in town. And the service is 2nd to none.
Great place, delicious food and beautiful baked goods.
A great place to have brunch with your friends! The cheesecakes and vanilla custard tarts are to die for!
המקום ממש מדהים וטעים
ויש בורקס מעולה (לכל הישראלים שחיים בקלגרי)
תודה רבה למנהלת של המקום שאירחה אותי כמו הבן שלה
תודה תודה
Amazing service and amazing food! They always have a smile on thier faces when you walk in and the food is always so fresh!
The sandwiches are to die for!! All was fantastic, I go there every time I'm in town.
Amazing place, food and service. Will go again for sure!
Must spot every visit in Calgary!
La Boulangerie is just so good.
It’s a great cozy atmosphere that surrounds you with busy workers and beautiful pastries.
Every time I go, the service is quick and wonderful, you’re ordering and sitting down to relax within 3 minutes. The coffee is fresh and aromatic, and if you’re feeling something sweet, the Nutella Latte is INCREDIBLE.
The crepes seem a little expensive but as soon it gets to your table you can tell they’re worth it. Great flavours, good size, totally worth it.
If you’re in Mission and are feeling like a cute cafe to chill in, La Boulangerie is the way to go.
Had the ham and cheese baguette and it was delicious! Staff was friendly, the atmosphere is very much like a European cafe. I will definitely be back.
La Boulangerie is a great place to grab a coffee and little something sweet. They also offer savoury dishes.... sandwiches, soups, etc., but I only opted for dessert. I had the new york cheesecake. It was delish. Latte was great too. The owner was so friendly, she even brought me and my 3 friends complimentary profiteroles after we sat down on the patio. They were fantastic too!
Kicking off the 2017 travel schedule in Alberta, games at arenas #26 and #27 of the NHL Bucket List on the agenda, Saturday morning was off to an early start at La Boulangerie Bakery Café in Calgary, a spot that once the 8-day trip was finished still stood out for some items worth seeking out including a flawless savory Croissant and world-class Canele.
Located at 2435 4 Street SW and open at 6:30am every day but Monday, much like the best of France, La Boulangerie Bakery Café brings European craftsmanship and work-ethic to Western Canada with a collection of Pastries, Tarts and Viennoiserie that is far too vast to be explored in one visit, a total of eight items ranging from good to excellent only scratching the surface of what I’d like to have tasted.
Surprisingly busy given the cold weather and early hour, at least two-dozen patrons passing through or sitting down to enjoy during my short stay, service was smiling and helpful while seats were close-packed yet comfy, a small two-top near the door almost overloaded by a collection from which the Mozzarella and Sesame Croissant was sampled first – laminated layers shattering to the tooth just as they would in the Cream and Almond-filled versions later, but giving way to a gooey, cheese-lacquered center that melded perfectly with toasty Sesame notes and plenty of Butter.
Admittedly not wowed by the Almond Croissant, thankfully not marred by Frangipane but also a bit too stingy with ground Almonds, expectations were met by a Kouign Amann awash with butter and a crackling Sugar bottom, the Canele going one step further and surpassing almost any outside of Europe in terms of crispiness overlying Custard, even if the outside lacked the traditional deep-brown polish.
Setting aside the Cinnamon Roll, underflavored though well laminated like the rest, better bites were found amidst the sliced Croissant that stood up well the cream filling, the same to be said of crisp Choux surrounding the naturally flavored Pistachio filling of a lengthy Éclair while both the Caramel Tart and self-proclaimed “Best Brownie in Calgary” were well constructed with Nuts helping to temper their sweetness.
Amazing food/coffee with the classic tiny french cafe vibe. The strawberry tart was mind blowing. Rich custard balanced with tart strawberries all on top of a crumbly crust. Seriously perfection. The beef stew (not pictured) was a bit too salty, but the flavours were great! The ham & cheese croissant was delicious! When I picked it up I was surprised by how heavy it was. It is REALLY packed with cheese. A warm, cheesy croissant in the morning, doesn't that sound GREAT? The coffee was hot and fresh! I would definitely come back for the desserts. Service was a bit awkward but nothing to complain about.
Best bakery in Calgary! Large variety of food and beverages. Staff is super friendly, especially the owner. (She takes time to get to know everyone and make conversation every time I come in). Will always be a customer of La Boulangerie😊
Most amazing bakery in Calgary!
Everything from the pastries to the beverages are just addicting! I am so happy I work so close to this gem in mission!
Great breakfast, lunch, and brunch place. Wide selection of freshly made croissants, croissant sandwiches, crepes, danishes, and other baked goods. My favourites were sweet and savoury croissants which were delicious and divine! The staff were friendly and genuinely smiling which was a plus for me. It adds to the overall milieu and personal experience of the place. It gets pretty busy in there but you'll be able to find a cozy spot to sit down and enjoy what they have to offer which is definitely worth the trip!
La Boulangerie is a local gem that prides itself on artisanal baguette sandwiches and other assorted pastries. It is one of my favourite bakeries in the city, and the friendliness of the service keeps me coming back. Some of the must-haves include their tradition bostock, which is an almond pastry with a sugar glaze that makes taking just one bite impossible, and their matcha almond croissant, which has a delicate hint of green tea with a light flaky texture that creates an unforgettable taste. Definitely a great place to catch up with friends, or to pick up a few treats!
I'd say for the price, the pastries are decent. My smoke salmon baguette was actually quite tasty despite it being dry. This place fills up really fast on weekends so be sure to come earlier.

La Boulangerie is conveniently located -a blow away from my place- and offers a good selection of pastries. I am less of a fan of their bread, and find it is a tad expensive (for the quality that is).
It may just be my French opinion (as every I know likes the place), but in the end, I'd rather walk a couple blocks more and go to Yann's. La Boulangerie is my backup plan.
Food, pastry, and coffee here is great. Usually food comes out pretty quick. There are a few weird things about this place, however. Whenever I've ordered food to stay it is always served on a disposable plate. It feels weird. When food is brought to your table they bring no cutlery or napkins. You have to go to the takeaway counter inside and pick up disposable plastic cutlery. Why? Are there no real forks and spoons?
Just seems things are a bit confusing and could be more hospitable. A real plate and cutlery world be nice. Might even be cheaper for the restaurant!
Cute cafe on 4th street near the Safeway. There's a paid parking lot next to it and also street parking.
I like that there is a pretty spacious patio area and also inside. I only tried the coffee and tart which were both good. Lots of people eating breakfast there, I'll have to try next time. My only wish is that the pastries were organized better in the display so I know what I am looking at and ordering.
I like this place. Their filo pastries with mushrooms and goat cheese are to die for. Their crepes come in various flavours and ingredients to satisfy a sweet tooth or soothe a savoury craving. I'm not impressed by the flimsy paper plates they serve you on. Their pastries are good, with unique looking round cakes available to buy, a good alternative to the usual suspect bakery products.
Best croissants. I love this place. Always confused why the reviews aren't better. My fiance and I go every couple of weeks for coffee, crepes, and croissants. ( hazelnut to be exact). I admit the pace is small and usually packed but I have never had to wait long for a table. Haven't had any issues with dry croissants... Ever. Always delicious.
Amazing Pasteries!. I have eat at many shops in Paris, and have to say the French pastries at La Boulangerie are the best I have every tasted.
This is a phenomenal bakery. Classic French everything: pastries, cookies, crepes, sandwiches, soups, etc.. The staff is very nice and the owner is extremely friendly and always remembers you. If you are in the mood for something sweet I highly recommend the nut-filled brownie, which is almost like a small cake. Every sandwich and crepe I've had here has been incredible and this has been by go-to bakery for the past 2 years if I need to pick food up for a special occasion. You won't regret trying this wonderful bakery.
Eh?. My friend and I were strolling through 4th trying to explore places we've never been to before. She had mentioned she wanted to try this place earlier in the day, so we went inside.
Very cute little place, a little confusing trying to place an order, but the fault was my own since I was hung over ad my brain had not been functioning well.
We had both ordered the brie and peppers sandwich, this was especially exciting to her since vegetarian options never sound enticing. We were told unfortunately they were out of bread but could turn it into a crepe, which sounded amazing to me since I haven't had a crepe in years.
So we wait at a table outside enjoying the scenery, listening to chatter and little dogs barking. Our food arrived swiftly and we excitedly dug in. To be honest, I was disappointed, it was good... But I felt as if the texture of the crepe didn't do it justice, bread would have been so much nicer! The peppers where great, they did not skimp on the brie at all! The only missing ingredient was the bread.
For my next visit, I will come earlier in the day before they run out of bread and get that sandwich again! I need to have it in it's true form before I can truly have an opinion on this restaurant.
I know it will be much better!
...
Update:
I have returned and ordered a mocha and the brie and pepper croissant sandwich.
The mocha was absolutely amazing. Probably my new favorite, but the sandwich was just not right.
Evening about it sounded amazing, but when I actually consumed the sandwich, I reneged my decision.
I felt like this should be a warm sandwich, would have worked better.
I love brie, but this was just too much. Maybe camembert might have worked better.
There was an overload of arugula, arugula has a strong distinctive flavour that over powered everything.
And there was hardly any pepper.
On the bright side, the croissant itself was superb...
But I will not wait 15 mins for a cold 8$ sandwich.
I am not the biggest fan of creeps bit when I had one here, I was blown away, their creeps are so savory and delicious, I also had a iced latte which was pretty delicious too! If you go here, I highly recommend their croissants, my favorite is the chocolate pistachio one!
Love it!. For the best espresso, the flakiest of savory pastries, and the most delicious tarts... be sure to stop in here.
It's always busy and the staff are always friendly! Be sure to try the Croque Monsieur, or the Spinach + Tomato + Feta pastry. To- die- for!
France on 4th St. Sidewalk cafe serving first rate european fare, incredibly fresh- best crepes and best pastries this side of the EU.
Delicious (but sinful). La Boulangerie truly delivers on the french cafe experience. It is my go-to for a delicious, decadent, european breakfast / lunch. It is pricey!! But oh-so-good. Their croissants, pastries, espresso, fresh squeezed orange juice, baguettes, etc. are all delicious. I especially love the baguette sandwiches with fresh tomatoes and basil!
If you've been to europe and love the cafe experience, La Boulangerie is a must-try for you. They won't let you down!
Great sandwiches, soups, and desserts. Service is always pleasant but can be chaotic at times (lunch rush). My only complaint is the paper plates and plastic cutlery - at these prices, I expect real plates and real cutlery. It cheapens the experience.
Buttery Flake Pastries. The flake pastries here are a buttery indulgence. They are so crispy, flaky, airy and buttery that you will want to eat more then just one. They come in both sweet & savory combinations so there is always something new to try.
Other than the capacity issues, great place with great food...MUCH better savoury crepe than Pfantastically AWFUL Pfannankoek Haus...
Avoid the lunch rush. My husband and I shared a french onion soup and two great sandwiches at this place but we went around 2:30. I have walked in at noon and walked right out. Their ordering system is a very long process, and food takes awhile. I enjoyed the fresh baked baguettes, and have considered ordering a pastry - but haven't yet. It's the kind of place you need to go to first thing in the morning, or late afternoon to have a positive dining experience.
Yes the layout is ridiculous; yes while waiting in line you have to wiggle around to see the contents within the container; yes the prices are over the top, but one needs to take into account the fact that it is a French concept bakery in a yuppie hood ; and yes the pastries are Devine and worth the wait & cost... But let guess you can secretly afford to indulge once in awhile.
Fair. Lemon tart, Crepes, Baguette sandwich, Coffee galore - I have come to the cafe countless times. They bake fresh bread almost daily and use no preservatives. Their sourdough bread is quite tasty. The crepes are absolutely delightful and worth the wait. The lemon tart, my goodness, if you can enjoy to be carefree about your caloric intake in a day then by all means each person needs to indulge at least once. The cafe is the only other cafe on 4th that serves illy brand coffee from Italy. In all honesty each restaurant gets they're usual hour rush, it just depends on when you come in. I love reading inexperienced reviews stating I will not come back anymore after only one visit. To be fair and objective you have to take into account the humanity of each business. Ever tried to watch a movie on a friday night with everyone else trying to get in (in all honesty, good luck). Unfortunately I feel sorry to the mouths raised on soft fastfood style burgers. You just won't be able to enjoy the french styled baguette. They are absolutely different from the usual soft chewy reprocessed burgers. It's just not the same, so I recommend those to stick to american fast food. There is a mix of reviewers on urbanspoon. Some with class. And some notably without. Enjoy!
Delicious. I don't like the way we have to order, I find that in general everyone is confused, however everything I have tried has been delicious. I love the ricotta and lemon puff pastries the best!
Best $8 I have ever spent on a sandwich. Period. Only the freshest of ingredients are used, and you definitely get a bang for your buck. Service is great as well.
Best bakery in town. Lots of people said it's not that good if you have tasted "manuel latruwe" before. So I tried both in the same week.
I am in Calgary since a year, the rest of my life has been spent in France. Let me tell you about bakeries...
Yes there are some downsides (staff not super friendly, till far from the entrance) BUT this is it, the croissant and the baguette (staples for me) are authentic. As good as in my country.
I would more than likely be hanging around on their patio with my café au lait this summer.
Good food and service. Had lunch there today, constant line up the entire time we were there. seems like they're usually pretty busy. great service, friendly staff that work there. the crepe with the swiss cheese, mushroom & spinach was delicious. my husband had the grilled chicken baguette, the bun was rock hard, however the stuff inside were delicious. good place for a quick casual lunch.
Great food and service. Although at the beginning service was a little slow, that has all been cleared up now. As for person who wrote in that they saw the chef/owner at Kingsland Market location so maybe that was why pastries were not up to snuff, that is not true. He is at both locations and supervising new bakers. Food is amazing and if you park further down the block on the avenue, parking is free.Love their pastries and also their croissant sandwiches. i look forward to visiting there any chance i get.

I think I’ve found my early morning patio hangout for the summer. If you’re nearby 4th be sure to drop by and pick up a couple goodies for the road or enjoy it in the sun, but be prepared to fight for the few coveted tables. It might not be Paris, but it’ll do.
The staff are so friendly here and the pastries are divine! Every time we come here there’s always something new and exciting. I would recommend La boulangerie to anybody looking to bring a unique treat as a gift to someone for a special day or just because ❤️
Nice cafe for a weekend morning. Plenty of French pastries, variety of croissants, sandwiches, tarts and pies, and many more. Just a few table inside, but they’re have a big al fresco patio during warm days. Lots of street parking around the cafe. We usually grab a croissant and stroll by Elbow River a block away.
This bakery is superb. One of the only places in Calgary which makes me feel like I’m on vacation. The pastries are delicious and there is so much variety. I recommend trying the breakfast crepes as well. Word of caution, sometimes it does take a while for the order, but it’s worth the wait. After all, delicious food takes time.
Nice bakery overall. We ordered a prosciutto sandwich and a pepper salami. Had to open to see if there was any meat inside. Very skimpy and the bread was very hard. Overall difficult to eat. The croissant however was memorable
Perfect Cafe in the heart of Mission.
I bring my Dad here, he loves it! We sit together and he tells me stories.
Try the ' alfajores'...the coffee is delicious.
