Review Bonterra Trattoria - Calgary

Great space to come and enjoy a very pleasant dinner! We were sat in the patio and it was just so nice, they even have heaters for colder nights. The food was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed everything that was brought to our table, including the drinks! Our waiter was beyond attentive and very charismatic, just excellent service throughout from everyone. Would definitely recommend!

Delicious Italian food, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. 100% recommend for a date night or if you're looking for some good Italian food. I don't eat meat but they accommodated my dietary restrictions.

After a mix up from our hotel concierge, we showed up and had no reservation. It was a Sunday night and the place was packed! At first they were not able to accommodate us, but the very gracious manager told us she will make something work. She was able to squeeze us in at the bar counter. She salvaged the night! After all we had walked over 20 minutes to the restaurant from our hotel. She was so incredibly kind throughout our entire dinner. Our food was delicious and everything seems to be cooked to order right at the open kitchen at the entrance. The entire staff was working very hard to ensure everyone had a good dining experience. I highly recommend a visit to Bonterra if you're every in Calgary.

This wonderful setting in downtown Calgary will always be one of my favorites. It feels like you aren't even in the city and are sitting on a Tuscan patio in Italy. The staff are very knowledgeable and attentive. The food is top notch and the flavors are always a delight for the palet.

This is, by far, worst place i have ever been to for italian cuisine. And thats coming from a guy that went Italy and determined that Calgary has the same level of taste and recommend people dont need to go to Italy to experience their food. Food: beef carpaccio had no flavour and seemed like it was just dipped in watered-down vinegar. It was not to the level i expected for the price point and had to raise awareness to it. The manager gladly took it away which is good, but did not go above and beyond. Their carbonara pasta is sub-par for the price… you can find better at other establishments who do not specialize in italian food. Their arancini was also okay. Better than the carpaccio for sure Service: 3/5. Pretty good but they wiped off crumbs on the table onto my partner’s lap… Overall dont go here for italian food. 2/5 for manager effort in the least

10 out of 10 for excellent atmosphere, service and amazingly delicious food! They were able to accommodate gluten free and vegan choices for those of us who requested it. The appetizers were delectable, no pictures because I forgot. We had Tuscan White Bean Dip, creamy and nice amount of garlic. Boar Pate with fennel and spiced apple sauce on a bed of watercress. (Outstanding flavor!) Roasted mini Pepers, delicious! Wild Salmon was a special and was very tasty. I had Mushroom Ragu with Linguni (a vegan request).There was a delicious Risotto and other entrees ordered at our table. Desserts were yummy. Olive Oil Cake with Mascarpone and Raspberry compote, Vanilla Gelato with Espresso, etc. We will certainly be back!!!

We went here for our daughter’s birthday. The service was great and the atmosphere was nicely decorated. The food was ok, price definitely on the high side for it portion and taste. Although, their focaccia bread was so good! We do have our favorite Italian restaurants and this is not one of them.

The food was amazing! The manger was very welcoming and receptive. I'm excited for my next visit.

After reading a few reviews this place and it sounded amazing! Was not disappointed at all. Amazing service, stunning food and ambience to die for! The appetiser plate was perfect to start and my penne with soft melting beef cheeks was spectacular! There was nothing small about the portion sizes, some people obviously don't realise that fine dining means a minimum of 3 courses.

Was here on Saturday night for a bachelorette dinner. Our server Sandor was great! Let us taste 4 different wines to choose what we wanted, understood when half of our party was running behind, and was happy to accommodate our rush at the end of our meal to catch or awaiting limo. The food was amazing. Highly recommend the bruschetta and Cato salad. My only slight complaint is it did seem to be taking awhile for food. We were almost 2 hours in when we asked how long until our entrees (we were on a tight time frame) and were told 30 covers were in front of ours. Other than that our experience was great and I will definitely be back!

My first time here! Did the chef tasting. Was amazing food quality and presentation. We were very well taken care of. Only timing of the chef tasting could've been better. Took a most 3 hours to do the 8 courses. Definitely will be back. But will order al la carte! Beautiful patio! Sitting there is a must!

Enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli,we were well taken care of,this place doesn't disappoint in any area.kudos

Bonterra offers a well thought out take on Italian cooking. We chose head chef Ben's Menu which included smoked goose as hors d'oeuvre, the feature risotto and a surprising goat's cheese cheesecake rolled in pistachios. They have a great patio.

This was one of the best meal dove ever eaten. I'm a self proclaimed foodie and enjoy fine restaurants. The staff was so knowledgable, friendly, and utterly amazing. The chef even came to our table. Will be back Every time I come to Calgary.

Went with my wife and 4year-old on a whim and ended up having one of the best dinners we've had in a while! Besides the terrific food, its was the service of our waiter, Sandor(?), that elevated the evening to being so enjoyable for us. Highly recommended!

I have eaten here twice now and both times has been amazing, first time was with my husband we enjoyed the intimate setting and the staff was extremely knowledgeable. Second time was just as incredible, it was as a party for my friends birthday we had a semi private room and a three course plated meal, everything was timed perfectly as we were on a schedule!! Food is delicious and I'll be going back 100%

Horrible place to have any sort of event. I hosted my birthday here with 15 guests and we got nothing but horrible service. We had booked this place two weeks prior to the event, we also informed the staff there about the plan, how many people would come, and my boyfriend informed them that he will bring cake for the guests which he took the initiative to drop off the morning of the event. He spoke to the manager and made sure everything would run smoothly. However during the time someone else was in charge and not only did he fail to coordinate his staff properly he took no initiative to apologize or accommodate us when our food came two hours late (ONLY STARTERS). Our reservation was booked at 8:45 however we arrived there at 8:30 and everyone had ordered before 9 off the customized menu they offered us. My guests were getting impatient once it was 10 pm and it was an embarrassing and awkward situation for me as the restaurant was not that busy and our orders were similar since we had a limited variety to choose from off the customized menu. Once our food did arrive I had a guest complain that her chicken was raw and when we let the staff know the man in charge came to talk to us and he did not apologize but justified the raw chicken and how she wont get sick from it but they will cook it again just in case... We were understanding on this incident however by the end of the night when our bills came around my guests were furious because of the lack of service and food so I spoke to the waitress about it and she got the same man to come talk to us again. At this point he was beyond RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL, not only did he embarrass me in front of everyone by falsely accusing me of not preparing them for the large group of people, but he also claimed we were late and that he was not aware that we would be bringing in dessert since we didn't inform him, but the cake was sitting at their restaurant all day. We had the emails as proof for this man, but he was not willing to hear me out what so ever which is when a few of my guests stepped up to ask him to speak to me with respect as it was my birthday and I was only trying to make sure everyone was happy which they clearly were not because of unsatisfactory service and food and now this rude man. I will never recommend this place to anyone especially after how I was insulted I would like the management to look into this as I do have 15 people to back this story up. I am furious with this place and would appreciate an apology to me as well as my friends.

Being a Winnipeger, I have now been to Bonterra Trattoria twice --- Once in August during my visit to Calgary ... When my friends & I enjoyed our amazing dinner on your beautiful patio. And just now this past weekend, for a special birthday celebration event with 40 others. Again, it was a wonderful experience in all aspects! Your food, the ambience & the service was stellar ... We look forward to our next visit to Calgary --- And we will definitely be back to Bonterra Trattoria ...

We were recommended by our parents who are foodies and dine out a lot! We ate every bite! Amazing meal we will never forget!!!

Tried organizing a dinner for my guests (20 people) and we arrived 15 mins prior to our reservation and we're served by 10? i mean i understand there are alot of people but taking that long is ridiculous (especially since the restaurant was not that busy). Pricing was misunderstood and the manager tried defending himself and embarrassing my guests in front of everyone instead. I mean when a customer is upset, your suppose to make sure they leave with a smile on their face... not a bad taste in their mouth. Definitely not recommending to anyone.

Attended a birthday party with a group of friends at this restaurant. Some of us arrived at 8:30 to claim our reservation (15 minutes prior to the booking) and ordered our food by 9:00! We were served appetizers at 10 (AN HOUR LATER), after reminding the servers! Not only that, one guest found their chicken to be raw! The worst part besides the wait and the food quality, was the way the owner took the birthday girl aside to embarrass her in front of the entire party by arguing every single concern we had. He claimed that we did not inform him about the cake, but we have an email with everything stated clearly. He was extremely rude and did not know how to handle his own customers. He claimed we ordered the food late, and that we basically kept the servers waiting. THE WORST SERVICE WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. DO NOT BOOK YOUR SPECIAL DAY OR EVENTS WITH THEM. THEY WILL SCREW IT UP!
