Went here for my daughter's graduation and reserved 7 people. Everybody love the food! Authentic and very cozy restaurant. We had a friendly and very helpful server. We will recommend this restaurant to our friends and definitely one of our best Asian restaurant now!
I cannot rave enough about this place! Beautiful Restaurant, incredibly attentive staff, and over the top delicious food. This place is perfect for Grant and I, as I don't like Sushi. For Grant, "This is some of the very best Sushi I have EVER had!". For myself, "One of the absolutely BEST steaks I have ever had!! (the mustard sauce side was absolutely PERFECT, and the steak grilled to perfection!!)".
If you are downtown, near 17th and 14th...I HIGHLY recommend this place! WOW!
This is definitely my go to place for delicious Sushi. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. The food is exceptional. I've never had a bad meal here. I love that they have such a wide variety of food from sashimi to lamb chops to chicken skewers, etc. The quality of the seafood is top notch!
Yakitori Love, best place in town for authentic japanese grill bbq style
It was a great experience as my party came for 2 birthday and we got a plate of sushi on the house & they sang to us as they brought out our cake. When you order stone grill they will come & help you flip over & cut your steak. Highly recomnemded. Been here 3 times & all 3 times enjoyed the service & food. Great cocktails too.
Great service, great food. Love have a casual meal here with top class, reasonably priced sake.
I'm in love with this place! Delicious food and the best part is the service. I recommend it.
Ke is for real and the staff is great... I lived in Japan for three years n it's a great offering...
Something different grill food. It was great food and great place.
Great food awesome atmosphere and love the fact I can hear my favorite anime op playing in the background. This place is amazing
As part of a culinary adventure me and a close friend decided to try some Japanese fare at this establishment, known particularly for its yakitori grilled foods. As one walks inside, one is immediately met with a fireside grill and friendly, attentive service. Along with the well-prepared sushi and sashimi offerings, the grilled meats, such as chicken hearts, beef tongue, provided a eating experience filled with unique flavours and textures to be savoured. To finish off the meal, we ordered a red bean Mochi with black sesame ice cream. A perfect pairing, and decidedly a great place to take a date or friend.
Amazing foods with amazing services. The owner super friendly. Totally going back again soon.
This is a must try and really good!!!
Great Resto for Calgary
Fast and friendly service, with the grilled food being especially delicious. Couldn't get enough of the okra with miso mustard sauce on top. The sushi was fresh as well and I enjoy the seared salmon sashimi. Would absolutely come back.
I came here a few months ago, but came across it on Zomato just today. I couldn't help but review it. I still remember what an amazing experience I had. The food was amazing and the service was great. Definitely a place I would return to. So happy Kinjo and Ke Charcoal Grill opened up Tokyo Street Market too!! Thank you for the delicious food in my belly!!
I've never tried squid in sushi until I ordered from Ke Charcoal Grill. That, with a bit of unagi sauce, is now one of my favourite sushi rolls! I also love that they offer rectangular (and spicy!) sushi, the presentation is fantastic
Wow wow wow !!! Ke is exceptional the food is truly high quality, we enjoyed every dish we ordered. They have a rooftop patio so it was amazing to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and sun while eating some of the freshest and biggest pieces of sushi and sashimi I have ever had. We ordered an assortment of appetizers: gyoza and salads but phenomenal and full of flavour. In addition to rolls, sashimi and sushi pieces, all made amazing and full of flavour. We also tried some of the meat on sticks and really enjoyed the chicken thighs, pork belly and beef. Beers are $5 the house beer and Sapporo were both great. I can’t wait to go back and try more !! Great spot for a group of people to share various dishes.
Ke is outstanding. The service is quick, the food is fresh and always delicious. I like that the portions are small so you can pick and choose different things to try. Their yakitori selection is extensive and they have bomb fresh oysters.
Amazing place, great atmosphere. Kitchen staff are really friendly and funny. Yakitori is amazing for a good price. Sushi is really good as well.
Great food and selection. Too bad it's not grill on the table that always taste alot better. Pricing is great for what you are eating and top service.
The music at this place is a little weird it's super LOUD, they place some upbeat Trance and Pop then all of the sudden there will be some sappy asian love songs.
When I used eat carbs I would get the chicken skin Yakatori, delicious with rice. Lots of choices for Yakatori. The pressed sushi is pretty good. Lamb and Beef dishes are great with the Magic Sauce. Truffled Shrimp is very good too.
The service sometimes is a little too attentive. Like the boss is always watching so the waitress is constantly asking if everything is OK. How many times do I have to say yes? Let people have a conversation and enjoy their meal.
My other issue is cooking a piece of meat on a stone. If it doesn't lay flat, or you try to cook the sides part of the meat doesn't really cook thoroughly. Interesting gimmick but not very safe.
I simply love this restaurant! Our server, Anna, was perfectly attentive and pleasant. The sushi, beautiful and delicious! Our absolute favorite? The scallops which were butterflied and grilled to perfection, then served with the best buttery sauce you've ever tasted! We'll be back often to this new gem of a restaurant! ❤
This is our go to spot for nice rolls and Yakitori. Have been to charcoal on a few separate occasions and never been disappointed. They have a variety of Yakitori available for dinner including chicken and beef which are very tasty and affordable. Rolls are fresh and inventive and last time we tried the seafood udon, very flavourful indeed. Definitely worth checking out!
Open concept kitchen, great detail and functional interior, friendly staff, loved it. It is a modern sushi bar where the tables provide enough privacy to take a date for intimate dinner, and yet open enough to interact with anyone if you happen to see friends and such.
Staff is super friendly, with great suggestions and knowledgeable about what the menu offers and portions.
Food is top notch, with things like lobster miso soup, and lobster rolls, how can you not feel like you are pampering your stomach? The chicken karage by the way was one of the best I've had in the city. Done right!
If you want to meet the owner, put a friendly request in and the chef in the open kitchen will come out to say hi! Turns out the owner is literally the hands in making your food. You don't get to see this kind of accountability often, so we are gladly returning and suggesting that you give it a shot!
Just a great evening! Staff was wonderful, food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try something new!
I came here with my sister, 2 kids and hubby. This place reminded him of a place his friend took him to in Vancouver where you get served your meat on cooking stones. They placed us upstairs where there was a bit more privacy , which I was thankful for as my kids are still young enough that there could be a melt down. Fortunately their Gyoza was so great that my kids were too busy mowing through 4 orders! I have to admit we helped too! We also tried the lamb, and two other types of meat which I just can't remember the name of, types of beef... we also tried some sushi, I think one was cod, the other tuna (sorry my hubby did the ordering!) The white fish (i think cod) was sweet. My 4 year old loved it and picked it up describing it as squishy and yummy. The spicy tuna rolls were pretty great too. Overall, great service, excellent food!!!
Such a cute little place. Love the interior and the open kitchen concept.
They have yakitori special only from 6-10pm and $5 all day Sapporo. Since they specialized in BBQ we ordered more of the grilled stuff. They were all pretty decent. The yakitoris we started off with 2 of each to share amongst 4 of us. Some of our fave was the chicken gizzards, beef tongue, pork belly, truffle shrimp and corn on a cob. The sushi were only OK, nothing stuck out.
Overall, a good variety and the quality and flavours were fulfilling. Service was good and we was easy to find street parking. But, a bit pricey.
Determined to try a new restaurant each time I go out, I decided to take my hubby here or dinner tonight. Service was friendly and our food came out fast. Mainly specializing in Yakitori skewers, charcoal and stone grills, they also offer some special rolls and sushi/sashimi. I would say one of my fav was the miso black cod. There was a variety of different skewers and you can try a bunch for couple bucks each. We also really liked the spicy crunch roll and the lobster sushi. Definitely will be coming back to this place and recommend it!
Very good food. The appetizers are soooo good. It is a unique taste and the atmosphere is so cool. Would come here again and again. I see all young cooks so there is definitely a new take to the Japanese recipes.
Great atmosphere, amazing food super helpful and attentive staff. Music was a great mix of western and eastern hits. Pressed spicy tuna roll, pork belly yakitori, chicken katsu all amazing.
Came here alone and hangry. Will return with friends very soon. The perfect solution to late evening katsu cravings.
I've been here a ton of times. Their yakitori is ok but at least it is well priced. Sushi is good. Large spacious restaurant. Pressed sushi roll is a pick too.
Great food, decent price for yakitori! Everything was spot on except for the yakitori hamachi and tuna. Those were super dry and way overcooked. The Angus beef stone grill was fantadtic, the meat was very tender and juicy, great portion size for the price. Loved the Miso black cod and grilled saba!!
Finally,a Fanciest yakitori place in calgary! The service was prompt and ambiance hip. Good selections yakitori menu.my fav was pork belly and the pork neck which was hot in temperature and fatty.also they have stone grill, lamb was my fav .will be back soon
Miso with lobster and mushrooms- inspired. And hot stone to cook your lamb chops to your own liking with a great mint and chili sauce. Not too busy for a Friday eve but it was nice out. Sure hope this place survives.
Absolutely loved the experience. The stone grilled ribeye was juicy and tasty. The oysters were also really fresh and at a reasonable price too. The atmosphere was really unique. The only thing that needs improvement is the parking lot. Other than that, I will definitely return to try more of their stone grilled items!
Came here for the first time tonight. Ordered the Anugs Beef roll, Truffle Shrimp Tempura, Calamari, Chicken Teriyaki and a few other things. What really stood out was the sushi rolls and shrimp tempura! Everything was fresh, fast with friendly service. At the end they even gave a box of Pocky chocolate with the bill! Will be back soon!
Heard this place been open for 3months. me and my friend first time checking out.
The interior is very beautiful.you can tell they really wanted to make you feel welcome, and they make sure of it when they all greet you when you walk in the door.
We started off with a pint of Sapporo and GIFT edamame.it was so good beer and edamame go together.we order a lot of yakitori. yakitori is amazing.my favourite was the pork belly and the pork neck(highly recommend.)which was hot in temperature and fatty.also the Momo and beef tough are very tasty.
The food and service is amazing.i wish i could rate this place more then 5stars.i cannot wait to go back!
Fantastic restaurant, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you cross the threshold you see a dramatic change.
The sushi is the best I've had in Calgary, presentation was fantastic, and the fish was fresh and the portions were generous.
I will definitely be coming back soon.
가격도 저렴하고 맛있었습니다
서버도 친절하고 처음 레스토랑에 들어갔을때 에너지 넘치는 기분을 받았습니다
인테리어도 깔끔해서 다음에 또 오고 싶어요
The price is good and tasty also is awesome
When I come in, every staff say something like irratshyaiii? I felt they are energitic
The interior is so clean
I really want to come again
On Tuesday, L thought it was too hot to cook. That’s good news for me, as I’m the one who does most of the cooking at home. L can only cook five dishes: BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, BBQ pork loin, sausages and steak. L told me to pick the restaurant. I read a lot of positive reviews about Ke Charcoal Grill and Sushi on Zomato and Yelp, so I figured it was a safe enough bet. Plus, the prices looked reasonable. With this economic recession, I feel really guilty going out to eat.
I have been to KE a fewtime now. and every time it was a great experience. The dishes are unique and tasty with quite the variety.i will return for it often
Really good food! Free edamame!!! Service was great and staff were friendly. The truffle tempura shrimp is a must try, batter was light and the lemon with the hint of truffle just made it all amazing! The stone grill was fun and good quality Angus beef! The oysters we tried was really fresh, a little small for the price though.... but it was great! I'd definitely return!!
So Gabby and I have been talking about going for sushi for a couple of days, but we were a bit hesitant about trying out the gigantic windowless white box across the street. Turns out you shouldn't judge a book by its cover!!
For dinner we had prosecco, oysters, chefs special s & s, some salad with with marinated sashimi, microgreens and taco chips, and I think something else but I can't remember what... It was all really good.
We did not order the lamb chop or the lamb chops because because they each cost $8 and I thought that was kind of a suspicious price. Fortunately, I saw that the boys at the table next to us (who are moving to Thailand) were eating lamb chop (lamb chops?). I said, hey dudes, how are the $8 lamb chop (lamb chops?). They were like great, can we buy you girls some?? We replied, sure.
Anyways, soon the stereo started playing this great new song, which turned out to be the fire alarm. That did not stop everybody in the (packed) restaurant from singing along and dancing.
As we were enjoying our dessert of more prosecco and more oysters, several firemen marched in and checked out the kitchen. Our bill was presented with an apology (and probably like us you're asking for what??). They then gave us an unopened package of bread sticks with icing on them, 10% off our bill, and a coupon for 10% off our next bill.
As we left, gabby and I agreed that this would be where we would eat dinner every night for the rest of our lives.
We checked out this new sushi place with a couple of our friends and it was great. There was a bit of a kerfuffle at first with the seating - they tried to sit us downstairs and then upstairs before finally deciding on downstairs. Our server also forgot to grab us items every so often (non-food related items that is, such as an extra menu or serviette). However, she was very friendly. The food itself is great!! They present it all on cool wooden boards. The sushi is square rather than circle. They also have a few 'hot rock' items where they bring out raw meat and you cook it yourself on the sizzling hot rock (see our lamb below). The food and drink is also very reasonably priced. The place is also one of the better decorated sushi joints around town. We'd be back again for sure.
I think my experience for this restaurant was mixed, just like the focus of the food from this place. Overall it was decent, the decor was interesting mix of Chinese and Japanese themed.
The stone grill was kinda a knockoff of grizzly house in Banff, not as flavourful, the pressed sushi fell apart, normally a gelatin is used but they just put liquid sauce, causing the rice to fall apart. The chicken and beef charcoal grill was OK, portion and value was decent but the only good taste was the sesame sauce it came with.
I enjoyed the deep fried mochi, but if a thicker teriyaki sauce was used would definitely taste better, masking the taste of unsettled deep fryer oil.
I think they also do other dishes but I think there's no theme or direction with the restaurant, especially when siracha bottles are part of the decor.
The entrance is hard to spot and parking was difficult to locate. Overall if I was to go back... I'd probably not go back as just like all the Chinese take out places, this place is trying to cover too many dishes, and feed you by volume, for a higher price.
We've been waiting for this restaurant to open since last year! First time trying it and it was an amazing experience. When you get inside the restaurant, all of their staff would cheer or like welcome you. Food is very delicious, we tried their steak & we did not regret it! It is grilled on top of a hot stone which I personally think is very cool. Their sushi and special roll weren't only very pleasing to the eyes but also really good especially their Angus beef roll! Mochi was definitely my favorite, it's a sticky rice cake with soya sauce.
Price of their food was reasonable because it was all worth trying. My boyfriend and I went crazy on the menu!
Overall experience was really great! Their staffs were very cheerful and super friendly! I highly recommend it & we will definitely be back.
Ke Charcoal Grill has finally opened after months of passing by and we decided to take my Mom here for her Birthday!. You are welcomed by the entire staff of the kitchen and were then lead upstairs. The place is huge and the decor is lovely. Complimentary Dish. As we were looking at their vast menu, they brought out a complimentary dish of their Ginger Beef. A bit battery, but the balance of the sauce was so tasty.
Great restaurant!! I was waiting for this place to open with eager anticipation as their exterior looked like they paid attention to detail. I took my wife and a group of friends here to celebrate her birthday dinner this past weekend. Lively place, very attentive staff, GREAT and very reasonably priced gourmet food. The interior was very nicely designed, with an open kitchen and an overall great atmosphere. The staff are all dressed in yellow hats with rugby like jerseys complete with player numbers, representing their restaurant team. The gentleman at the back with the red hat is Terry Ke, who I presume is the owner and head chef. Aside from our regular server, the manager (Rey) spent time to introduce us to the restaurant and the menu, which sake to pair with which dishes and just took a lot of extra good care of us. We had a group of 6 with one vegetarian so she hand picked our entire dinner, which included a wide assortment of deliciousness including charcoal grilled and seafood/sushi/sashimi. She picked perfectly, not too little and not too much. They also sent over a complimentary dish for us to enjoy. I wish I remembered everything that we ordered, to better describe everything we had in this review. However, all of the food were superb, as was the level of service and attention from their team. Everyone in our group remarked that they will be back, to this excellent restaurant.
Absolutely delicious food. I had two of the oshi sushi offerings- this is pressed sushi and a decent value as each order comprises four pieces. I had the wild salmon, which came with a fantastic spicy miso topping, and a spicy tuna with spicy mayo. Both were stunning. Even more delectable was the chicken karaage, which is made with de-boned chicken leg, not thigh as is more common, and it was just perfect, with a gorgeous spicy mayo on the side. Next to Marra's Way Sushi in Canmore, this is the best chicken karaage I've ever had in Canada outside of Vancouver- I could have eaten four orders of this one, just spectacular. The last and most expensive thing I ordered was the miso black cod from the grilled side of the menu. It was melt in your mouth fantastic with a dollop of Japanese kewpie mayo on the side.
Ke has things not often seen on Japanese menus in Calgary- it's not the bargain of Nami across the street but it's a different sort of experience. I loved every bite of my dinner and as a Bankviewite can see myself coming back here all the time. A blessing after months and months of delays in its opening and, cliched as it sounds, it was worth the wait.
My first visit was for lunch, the food is good the service is not, had to wait 10 minutes after being seated, the appetizer came after the main, no real clear indication of how to order or food description, the Gyoza was good, I expected more from the Sushi (the price warrants it) - to their credit they did try and appease me with a small scoop of green tea ice cream, ill try again, maybe for take-out.
Awesome food, friendly service and overall fast and beautiful presentation. I was very glad when I first found out that Japanese charcoal grill finally arrived at Calgary, and it did not disappointed.
Excellent service. Amazing food. Great open kitchen concept. Very spacious and high end atmosphere. Definitely a good place for dates/hang outs etc.
Great atmosphere, friendly service, fast delivery of tasty dishes. Loved the Oshi Sushi, Special Rolls and Stone Grill! I'm not a fan of oysters... but looked really good!!! Lol. Awesome start for a new sushi & grill restaurant in town!
