Review Calcutta Cricket Club - Calgary

Hiu Yan Chan
First time here and sat at the bar counter, a chill and relaxing yet with a good atmosphere. When you first walk in, you will get hit with the wonderful smell of spice but you get to use it right the way. Ordered chips and curry, brownies, and 3 drinks my favorite is the one with Mango and chill, so good! We had a Asian female who wears glasses and has tattoos, she is upbeat, fun and professional, she came to check on us a few times while she is working hard to make all the orders at the bar. The only downside is the lamp in front of us, the light keeps on flickering which was ignoring but manageable. Next time I will want to try more of their foods on the menu.

Amazing place with phenomenal food and great decor! The ingredients were super fresh and all the flavours were spot on. Appetizers were so good and the biryani is the best I’ve had in a while. The drinks were really good too (although a bit on the pricier side). It’s definitely an upscale and unique experience of desi food, would recommend! :)

Wow, wow, and wow. A must-visit if you love Indian food, Indian fusion. The food is amazing, and the service is fantastic. We had the Sample Menu, which I would highly recommend for a first visit. The drink menu is equally as good as the food menu. We went early and we felt unrushed, by the time we left it was almost full. 5 stars!

I tried them last week Saturday with my husband. We ordered chicken kathi roll, spiced potatoes and tawa chicken. The food was so different. It’s not so authentic indian food, more of fusion cuisine. You cannot modify your spice level. And there was a guy who was so creepy that he was staring us all throughout the dinner, felt so weird. Had to leave early without enjoying our drinks. Kathi roll was awesome.

Excellent curry ! Great atmosphere! Staff is friendly! Great place for girls night out! We were quite early for our reservation so they graciously placed us at the bar to wait for our table. Their cocktails are exceptional! They are in the top 5 for Calgary in my books!!! The bartenders were very friendly, entertaining and talented ! We decided to have wine with our meal. You can’t go wrong with Calcutta Cricket Club.

My favorite Indian place in North America. Had my first Mango Lassi outside of Asia here. This place is legit yet modern. All the classics with a modern twist. The pictures on the wall made me want to learn about the history and the story of how the Calcutta Cricket Club came to be. A must try in Calgary.

Popular Indian Restaurant you must try in Calgary, located on 17th Ave SW. The dishes are Bond of flavours with many Vegan & Gluten-free options available! I honestly could sit there and pig out on the lamb and onion naan! 🤤😆
Hilda Lemus
Delicious. Ordered the Chili Chicken (regular way, no extra chilies), butter chicken with one portion of basmati rice and garlic naan (kind of odd that naan is extra), and the Tava Chicken. Everything was delicious and I am so happy that we chose this place for my friends birthday dinner.
Glenda Magallon
The food was very fresh, well prepared, and so delicious! We had the Chicken Kati roll, Chli Chicken, Gunpowder Veg, Pork Butter Masala, and some rice and naan. This was just the right amount for 2 people, so we had room for Kulfi to share for dessert. Our server was so friendly and helpful when we ordered. That made our experience even more exceptional. It’s a beautiful space and extremely busy, you may want to call ahead for a reservation. I highly recommend.

We got to enjoy the very lovely patio, (end of Oct in Calgary exciting!!) We got there around 6PM and seated right way. The waitress was very good in explaining how it worked and the must tries. we were not disappointed. My favourite was the Papri Chapp. The braised beef covered in pastry was very good and the beef melted in your mouth. Due to construction...still a must try

The atmosphere was nice, our server was helpful and the food tasted nice - not as fabulous as other reports but tasty (North American view of Indian food with little spice and not as flavourful as we had hoped). Biggest issue was the extremely small portion sizes and high prices. Bugger portions at lower prices are required for us to go back.
Jarom Moriyama-Bondar
Beautiful restaurant, great patio, great service and most of all amazing food and drinks. We tried all the curries, chili chicken, kati wraps and desserts and we loved them all! Portions are small but sooo good and worth it!!!

Not worth the hour wait at all..... definitely some of the poorest service and mediocre at best Indian Food in the city. Not worth any of the hype.
Mike Eggenhuizen
Amazing food and great atmosphere; highly recommend a reservation, but at the same time just as high of a recommendation to sit at the bar and converse with the bartenders...they're an awesome bunch! My new favourite place!
Sarah Gustafsson
Such a beautiful restaurant drowned in loud music so everyone talks louder. Sat at the bar for dinner because it was so busy - no big deal - we'll get good service. Nope. We had to ask for everything. For our drinks. To order food. To order more drinks. To have our food packed up. And lastly, for our bill. The food was great, too bad about the service. We won't be returning.
Meaghan Cameron
Just what Calgary needed! A fresh take on Indian food serving lighter fare in a sweet venue. Decor and patio onnnn point!
Shannon Whelan
Had an amazing time. The food was excellent and the ambiance was absolutely amazing I recommend this place! 5 star
Tracey Valente
I’m giving this a four star because while in Calgary this wasn’t our favourite stop. The biryani was our favourite but the short rib meat was very fatty. The Kati rolls were amazing and if we were to go back we would just eat those. The raita and dahl were not what I am used to but I know that every region in India makes their food differently and that’s what I like about Indian food.
Sayma Khan
I loved the Atmosphere, very beautiful and comfortable. The food and service was also great. The Garlic Naans were store bought and had no garlic on it at all. The Cod balls were the best and one should really try that.
Mike Christen
Went yesterday for a date night and our waiter/bartender took our order, recited our order, then forgot half of our order. It was weird how the courses came out, vegetable before the potato and then no main. Like any good server would, blamed it on the kitchen. Really nice ambiance, however will not be returning... plenty of restaurants in town that do a much better job on a busier night.

We came in for Brunch last Sunday, the food was delicious!! Loved the Chi tea and the pineapple mimosa is an awesome twist. Most of all the service was Great!!
Niamh McGrath
Great food, great server, nice atmosphere. Quite loud inside, so sometimes difficult to hear conversation.

Sports clubs - a residual feature of colonial British culture that still remains embedded in the very DNA of Calcutta! Both the ambiance and the menu transported me Calcutta allowing me to sample not only the amazing street food but also the unique creations that you will only find in a Calcutta Club! Excellent food - only requires bigger portions!
Terri Lynn Court
Contrary to other comments about pricing I think the portion size to price ratio was pretty on par for 17th avenue dining. Great patio, great menu, great ambience. LOVED the paneer + honey, broccolini, tandoori chicken and doi begun. Didn't love (though still enjoyed) the rezala chicken and the phujkas; however, would have liked to see more filling inside the phujkas. Overall, great experience and looking forward to our next visit!

Amazing food, amazing decor, amazing staff and service. Had a lovely birthday celebration and night. I will surely go back!
Brenda Friederici
We enjoyed my daughters Birthday dinner here. We all loved the cocktails, the food, the service and the atmosphere. So happy to see so many gluten free options. We will definitely be back for more.
Joanne Fuhrmann
Great food! Very inviting and beautiful ambions. Server was a bit behind with drinks but the food made up for it.
Lindsay Thomas
The perfect brunch spot. Thank you for the lovely meal!
Don Camacho
Great food, with awesome decor. Colonial India with bright colors. I'd wait for a bit more until the kitchen gets their groove. We were there for an hour, mostly waiting, but worth it. Dishes are sharable between two people.
Ron Campbell
Fabulous food, atmosphere, staff, and patio!! the same team that did Mexican right (Native Tongues) has done it again, this time with Indian. Best Patio on 17th by far!
Charles Bertrand
Truly amazing food and great wait staff...it was a great evening!
Naurine Shah
enjoyed our brunch here .. would totally recommend it!

Great We showed up without reso and they let us sit at the bar until our table was ready . We were seated on the veranda quickly but we still got to enjoy unique and delish cocktails at the bar. Service was great and we loved all our menu choices. Must try Bison biyirani!!!
Charlotte Nickel
Hi CCC. I finally managed to visit your restaurant last night. I love your food and ambiance. I'm still enjoying some of the food today that I had take away. Your service was fantastic as well. I will definitely be back and invite friends. One last note...thanks for adding spice, originality and cool ambiance... Calgary needs more of that!
Sukhbir Singh Sachar
Service was very good food not that great. Could have been hotter and more flavourful although the Chicken Rezala was excellent. Will be back though
Joy Elizabeth
Great positive atmosphere. Yummy small plates and creative tasty drinks! Would recommend.
Ron Arends
Great atmosphere, food and service. Can't wait to try the vindaloo bone marrow!
Chris Popoff
Had a blast. Loved the decor, food was delicious and the cocktails were both creative and way too easy to drink. I will be back.
James Cameron
I love this place. The cuisine of my hometown. Biryani was top notch.
Shati Ahmed
Beautiful ambience. Felt like I was in Calcutta. Food tastes amazing, perfectly spiced. Definitely one of my favourite spots.
Christopher Dempster
Great food and drinks at this place. The service was friendly, prompt and memorable.
Keri Lynn Belecki
We are bringing all 6 here, great place
Demetre Mostarac
Great food! Good service! Amazing veranda. However the decor inside is very strange though it is their intent so it works.
Kurt Down
Amazing food and drinks! All the servers were friendly and attentive! Cannot wait to come back here!
Jeremy Jordan
Bring some friends, order cocktails and a bunch of plates to share!

We had a reso for 6pm. From the second we sat down throughout the entire meal, we were rushed. He offered to take away our meal when it was half eaten, brought the bank machine with the bill and as soon as we paid it the manger walked up to our table (at 7:25) and informed us that the next party that needed our table so we were welcome to either go sit inside or... so we left. When I called to speak to their GM to complain, my call was directed to Drea who claimed she’s not actually the GM...despite that being her title on LinkedIn. She basically said it’s normal to kick people out after 1.5hrs. Super tacky. Likely will go the way of it’s sister restaurant soon.

Nice upscale & trendy Indian restaurant located on the prime 17th Ave. Definitely recommended for someone who would like to good Indian food. The price is a bit on the higher side for the portion size served. The Railway chai is a high to end your meal.

I absolutely live this place!!! The food is amazing. The atmosphere is amazing and it's just a great spot to go to with friends. Share dishes! I love the chili chicken, beef curry and the fries. OMG so good!

Upon entering the building you are greeted with beautiful aromas and soft lighting. Ambience is superb. Service was also amazing, I didn't catch our servers name but he explained the menu and offered suggestions which is appreciated. He was also quite funny and charming, nice to see some personality. Food was good, maybe a little heavy on the salt. Chili chicken starter very good with just a touch of heat. Lamb kati rolls, lamb was good and loved the pastry but very salty. duck vindaloo could have used a bit more rendering in places but lentils and flavoring good. Will opt for a beer or cocktail next time to balance the seasoning. Thanks will be back to to try more!

Went here for dinner on a weeknight. The atmosphere is awesome, and the drink list is well done. Service was meh, we ordered the House Dal as one of the entrees, and it was incredibly salty ( and I'm a salt fiend). We also had the Home style Chicken curry, it was fine but in no way memorable.

Besides that hiccup, everything was pleasant enough. The pineapple chutney is a really nice addition to whatever curry/carb combo you get. I would go back for happy hour to be able to try a few more of their dishes (5-6pm) at a lower price point.

Visited here with our hosts for the weekend. Great atmosphere and the food and drink we had was excellent, especially the chicken chilli started. The service was friendly and efficient and the pricing reasonable for the location. The only thing stopping me giving and excellent rating was the very limited main course menu.

Funky tropical decor & eclectic tunes creates a really cool vibe. Good intro to Indian food for 17th Ave. Small plates are better than entrées & they’re 1/2 off during happy hour! (4.5/5)

Trendy and you pay for exactly that. What bothers me is the loudness of the place which makes conversation with friends somewhat difficult. Definitely not recommended for a date night (or you end up half yelling to each other).
As for the food, the rolls are really good (we had the paneer and spicy chicken). The cauliflower curry has good flavours (but I was really looking for an eggplant curry which is not offered on the menu). The trophy case fish is interesting with unique flavour (perhaps just not my favourite type of fish). The mango lassi is as good as any other I had before. Overall I found the food solid and average.
The server is the typical young guy who tries perhaps a little too hard to "create" a fun drinking atmosphere (not my type of person). Otherwise the service is attentive.
It's definitely a pricy place, 2 people with no alcohol for a total of $100+ before tax. Maybe i am old school for Indian food, this trendy cocktail drinking atmosphere does not work for me I prefer Moti Mahal a few blocks down 17th ave. for the more traditional fare....
HungryinCalgary
I highly recommend giving Calcutta Cricket Club a visit when you’re next craving Indian cuisine, but not sure you want to commit to a more traditional meal. You also definitely don't want to miss their happy hour from 5-6pm - 50% off all bar snacks and $5 beers on tap made our recent binge there quite affordable. In addition to the lovely food, the interior decor is stunning and the level of service we received was attentive and unpretentious. I usually manage to think of something I didn’t like about a place when I do a review, but the only problem was me ordering a dish I wouldn’t have chosen if I’d given myself more time to read the menu – my bad! Every course from the honey-drizzled paneer to the cookies and cream kulfi was fantastic. Come for the happy hour snacks, stay for the cravable cocktails, curry and kati rolls.
Jenna
Wow the decor! Such a nice space when you walk in even though the mint green exterior looks so tacky. Got the lamb kati roll, the pork meatballs and the pork masala with garlic naan. The lamb kati was my favorite even though it was sort of on the pricey side. The meatballs came in a big portion and the yogurt sauce was sooo good. The pork masala looked so small but it was actually very filling. We had to get another order of garlic naan and it took over half an hour... not cool! Service was also all over the place too. I think we had in total five different servers.
Justin Kettle
food was decent but overpowering in specific spices. I eat a lot of Indian and was not really that impressed. cocktails were great but service was average at best. maybe a bad night but I would go elsewhere.
Hitting The Sauce
Based on Eric and Gwendolyn’s recommendations, we ordered the Chips and Curry (HH $5, reg $10), Chilli Chicken (HH $7.50, reg $13), Paneer and Honey (HH $4, reg $8), and a Kati Roll - Tandoori Spiced Chicken ($8) with an egg ($1.50).

Where do I begin...?? This place was so good! But you should just to be safe make a reso. We ordered a little of this and that from the menu and left completely satisfied!

The service and ambience get points. The food lacked lustre. We spent enough to be full, but ended up going for wings after. We won’t be back.

There has been a lot of hype about this new restaurant on 17th Avenue. I’ve not been keen to try it because they don’t take reservations… this is one of my biggest pet peeves of any restaurant! So, three of us decided to go here on a very cold, snowy, winter evening. We showed up before 5:30 and easily got in, but by the time we left the restaurant was almost full.

I have very mixed feelings about Calcutta Cricket Club. The concept itself is very cool, and I love the swanky, tropical midcentury decor. But I feel like the vibe here is a little contrived; the waiters are almost painfully pretentious, and things like the obsessive filling of my water just got annoying. Portions here are ridiculously small for the price, and some dishes seem like they are trying to "innovate" more than just taste good. For appetizers we tried the Chilli Chicken ($13) and Fish Chop ($9). Our food arrived relatively quickly. The portion of chilli chicken was generous, the fish chop not so much (only three croquettes for $9, and we were charged $2.50 for an extra one since there were four of us). The Fish Chop was really good, but the chilli chicken was just ok (tasty enough, but very sweet; more like "asian inspired" wings you might get at a bar). For our main dishes we tried the Chicken Tikka ($11), Keema Pau ($14), Pork Butter Masala ($16), naan, and rice. The Chicken Tikka was absolutely delicious, and the pineapple chutney it came with was definitely a highlight of the meal, but the tiny portion size was more than a bit underwhelming. The Keema Pau was one of the weirder dishes I've ever gotten in a restaurant: very little sauce, somewhat bland ground beef with a ton of peas (but none of the raisins promised in the description), served along some dry, grilled slider buns - almost like hamburger helper. The sauce of the pork butter masala was nice, but I was not a fan of the use of pork (chicken pairs better with the sauce in my opinion). They accidentally brought us two orders of naan and one of rice when we had ordered the opposite. The rice was good (I mean, it was drizzled with butter) and the naan was also quite nice (but I couldn't really taste any of the garlic that it was supposed to have). Service was almost overwhelmingly attentive, and staff kept trying to take our dishes before we'd finished them! Probably won't be back - better to head to one of Calgary's many good east Indian restaurants instead.

My husband and I came to dine at this restaurant as we heard lots of good things from friends. It was Saturday eve and the wait wasn't too bad. We started off at the bar and moved to a table where it was easier to talk. Food was delicious, the cajun chicken kati roll was delicious as well as the short rib biryani 👍👍. Service was good as well. Would definitely return back to try more things on the menu.

Originally hesitant to go to this restaurant only because it does not have reservations. Regardless- the food and service was excellent. I recommend the beet and kale dish as well as the lamb and their cocktails are well constructed. Our sever was fun and knowledgeable. Cricket Club has the atmosphere of the fashionable supper clubs that exist in Montreal; essentially attractive and fashionable people having fun.

Went to this place for my aunt's wedding anniversary..and came back disappointed... Very less quantity and over priced! Main course was a disaster.. over charged even for the soft drinks..pathetic place to go..

I've eaten here a couple of times in larger groups so it's nice to split things. The beer is fairly expensive for the pour size but it is 17 ave. both times we ordered pretty much every snack and a few appetizers. The curries and mains were also very tasty. I'm no expert on Indian food but I do know both times we ate there the service was great and on average the spend per head, after tax and grat, was around $40 which is crazy cheap for how much food we got. Overall the food was very diverse and interesting. One time we ordered a chicken dish and it was definitely raw so they took it back no questions asked. I'll go here again once they get new dishes for the winter.

Calcutta Cricket Club came out of nowhere. The second restaurant to open by the same owners as Native Tongues Taqueria, triple C specializes in Bengali food. This may be the first foray into making Indian food hipster. The hours fit perfectly with 17th Ave. Open till 1:00am Friday and Saturday. We decided to check this place out on a Friday night around 7:00pm. No reservations. They have a patio outside that’s gorgeous.

When ever I try recommended restaurant by friends, normally ends not that great. But then this time around too start was not that great. I would request Calcutta cricket club to give tables if they are empty rather than making people wait. So start was wait for 40 mins. But then we requested to give us food fast as we had flight to catch. Service after request was pretty quick and that made my day. We tried puchkas which were heaven as I like them chilled and spicy. Even paneer kathi rolls were different and great. Doi Baigan in curry is the best did not expect them to cook in sarsaw oil and was delicious. Naam and paratha were cooked to perfection. All and all must try if you visit Calgary and for die hard cricket fan 😊!

Awesome new fusion Indian resto with a Punjabi flair. Great menu with amazing cocktails and legit Indian flavours. Absolutely a must experience!

So I found this place on Instagram. As a person with a strong Indian background including West Bengal, I thought this will be the place for real Kathi Roll. Unfortunately it is not. We had high expectations but it came crashing. The roti that they use is Shaan frozen roti. I know this because I use the same when making home made rolls. The chicken tikka is okay, not amazing, on its own. Seems like they use premade shaan or MDH tandoori masala. But they add maggi sauce in the roll which is what killed it for me. The mango lassi is okay. The cardamom in it overpowers the whole mango flavour. I did like the decor. I would say it is probably similar to a white washed restaurant in Calcutta. Music didn't do the place much justice either. I was quite disappointed with the server Maria. She didn't seem to take constructive criticism in a positive way. The manager was nice. He did agree that it is catering to locals of the area. Won't be returning again.

This place does not take reservations so come early to put your name on the list. They told us it would be a 30 min wait and that they would text us when our table was ready. We went across the street for a coffee while we waited. 40 mins went by and still no text. We went back to the restaurant to check and we had to wait for another 10 mins or so. When we got sat, The music was quite loud and it was hard to hear what the waitress said to us. We ordered a bunch of things to shared between my hubby and I. The keema chop was my favourite, crunchy and filling was some and flavourful. The BHUTTA (corn) came lime with chili powder on it added a spicy kick. We got the eggplant curry with garlic naan bread and the curry had tons of veggies that you forget there is not any meat in there. The cheese paneer was ok nothing special.

Interesting decor. It was nice but gave me the uncomfortable feeling that I was part of the 19th century privileged class. Given India's colonial past, the decor choice is somewhat questionable. Cool cocktail choices. I had the something express which was awesome. The food left something to be desired. The chicken tikka and paneer were bland. The table beside us ordered the lamb shank, which is 30+ dollars and the size of a side plate yikes! I wanted to order the biryani but couldn't justify it given the 33 dollar price tag. You can get awesome biryani for like 10 bucks at one of those little shops up in Castleridge or Prairie Winds. I'm generally suspicious of hip trendy Indian restaurants and this place reinforced that apprehension.

The food, service and drink here are great (favourites include the lamb and raita) but my favourite part of eating here is the whimsical, colourful room. I look forward to eating here lots.

In order to be successful long term this restaurant will have to do three things: learn to turn the tables, improve service, and improve the food. We were told that the wait was going to be 30 minutes, and it turned into an one hour and 40 minute wait for a table. They are not managing the tables at all, and turning people away because it's a two hour wait. I don't know many people who are going to put up with that for very long. Secondly the service was spotty at best. And the food, while some of it was good, some of it was way over-spiced. And they ran out of dishes.

Amazing food and service, a must go!! Interior is nicely designed and ambience is super cool. Great addition to 17ave, about time somebody did a cool Indian restaurant
