Very classy place, great wines, great starters (I loved the escargots) and main courses. Only complaint: the bacon in the pasta carbonara was falling to the bottom of the plate in a lot of butter, I was basically eating bland buttery pasta and trying to pick up the bacon pieces. It’s just a small detail didn’t ruin much my overall experience.
Came here for Christmas lunch with co-workers, service was excellent with full explanation of the menu and recommendations. Had linguine in white sauce with bacon, very good. Dessert did not match the name: croc en bouche were mini cream puffs with chocolate on top, not at all dissimilar, in look and taste, to those you may purchase in the frozen food section. Decor was beautiful. Found it a little pricey for lunch, 5 people, one shared dessert and one alcohol beverage came to just over $280. Parking was very convenient!
Perfectly lovely pre-theater dinner. We were graciously welcomed without a reservation for dinner before the theater. We sat in the lounge at a high table, which I loved because we got to see everything happening in the kitchen.
The seafood pasta was simple, fresh, and delicious. The added bonus for me is the availability of gluten-free pasta.
The service was quick, attentive, and friendly. He was very knowledgeable and very respectful of our rush to get to the theater on time.
Will definitely go back and likely request a lounge table again!
I enjoyed everything. Yes this place is good. I ordered the scallops appetizer with what appeared to be crispy fried basil and I don't think I have had scallops that were cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly like that before. That fried basil complemented those scallops very nicely. I had the beef main course, and that was a hit, although they can work a little bit on the doneness of the beef I ordered mine medium rare and it was closer to medium well, but that's okay it was very tender and perfectly seasoned anyways. Desert was good, too much chocolate though.. Pairing a rich ganache like tart with chocolate ice cream. Too much. It was an enjoyable meal overall.
Delish. When I want exceptional food, Centini's is my go to restaurant. Staff are very friendly, everything is house made and fresh. It is a restaurant that is upscale perfect for a celebration meal and their late night hours are nice when you are looking for just a nightcap and dessert. I've never been disappointed. Thank you Chef Fabio for creating one of the best tasting meals in the city inspired by old world delicacies!
Delish but pricey.... Have to say one of the best pasta meals I have ever had, but it comes with a price! Gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce absolutely melts in your mouth!
Good food, but come on... We had a bit of a debate about where to go for lunch when we were downtown for a meeting at City Hall. The choices were at polar opposites - a panini at Caffe Rosso or some pasta at Centini. We decided on the pasta - tagliatelli with lamb. The sauce was great but to be honest the pasta was a bit on the mushy side, which was disappointing. By the time we added a $17 glass of wine (!) to the $24 pasta (!), the panini idea was sounding better. My point of reference for pasta right now is a small Italian restaurant we visited, just off Portabello Road in London. Pasta was perfectly cooked. Sauce was amazing. Cost was around 12 pounds. Value was off the chart.
I think Centini is a great restaurant, very cool decor and the service was great. Added to that was that our table was right in front of the open kitchen, so we got to watch that orchestra of movement, which was fun. But the price of the food makes it a little hard to justify.
Marvellous profiteroles. Went there with my husband for some post Mozart & Salieri sweets (why not?). He had the trifle (raspberry?), and I determined with one bite that I'd finally found a trifle I actually enjoyed (I normally find something in there that doesn't sit right with me... normally something about texture).
I had the profiteroles. I was expecting maybe two or three little things drizzled with a sad little bit of chocolate and filled with some thick custard - which I was still ok with trying - but what I got instead had me smilling from ear to ear. It was a rather large mound of the little darlings (6? 8???) sitting (and drizzled with) a goodly quantity of warm melted Callebaut chocolate. Each little pastry was perfectly puffed and very easily cut with my knife without crushing it, and just the right texture - not "bread-like"! They were filled with a cream of a texture so light, you could almost fool yourself into thinking it wasn't tooo high calorie. Whatever, they were fan-bloody-tastic.
Anyway, I'm impressed, 'cause when I help my mom hollow out her baked choux pastry, I find they're an infernal pain in the behind, they tear easily, but they're so good. These guys pulled it off quite well.
The décor was nice, but the art wasn't my thing... the server was very nice and polite.
Delicious food but pricey. I enjoy going to Centini's when I have the money to spend. It is pricey but it's worth it. I've been four times now and each time has been an excellent expirience. They have some of the best and most diverse Italian food in Calgary.
Lost reservations, great food, excellent service excluding hostess. First of all, we had to wait a week to get reservations because it had been booked solid for the Valentine's day.. or should I say week. Once we had arrived, a zoned out hostess confirmed that our reservations had been lost. How disappointing, since we had waited so long to eat there. She gave us the option of sitting at the liquor bar or the kitchen bar. We chose the liquor bar, which really wasn't so bad except for the fact that we didn't even get a chance to see the rest of the restaurant, we simply went from entrance to bar and did not get to enjoy a full dining experience. My food was excellent and worth the wait, missed reservations and lack of dining experience. My partner ordered his meat medium-rare done, one piece was well done while the other piece was rare. The waiting service was really helpful and assisted in finding us wine that went with our food.
