My last review was viewed 28,935 times. Look at the old roof lines across the street, they were known as Hull Duplexes, built in 1890. Met friends for Dim Sum lunch today, great spot, a Calgary classic. You will not be disappointed, Have been happily going for decades
This is authentic Chinese food, not the westernized overly sweet & overly saucy stuff I'm used to. My hubby and I really enjoyed it! We ordered the wonton soup, juicy pork dumplings, ginger beef, sweet & sour pork, the prawn chow mein, and the BBQ pork egg Foo Yung (we ordered way too much fyi but now we have lots of leftovers). The dumplings & the prawn chow mein were my favourites out if everything.
The service was good & the prices are higher than average but for the quality that you're getting I think it's fair. Clean bathrooms fyi. We did get seated right away and the restaurant was very busy . The wait for the food wasn't bad especially since it seems like they make every dish fresh to order.
Overall, we will definitely go back. I have been there about 2 yrs ago for dim sum and I remember enjoying it.
Dim sum YUM! Love this restaurant for the food and the atmosphere. The servers push little carts of food around to your table and you can choose which items you want to try and the ceiling is decorated with Chinese lanterns. The sticky rice is some of the best in city and there are tons of steamed dishes to try. They also serve friend rice and ginger beef for the less adventurous folk.
The Best Dimsum in Calgary! Must be there early as it gets busy and it’s not easy to get a table when it’s busy. I’ll wait though for great-tasting dimsum. Will go back again. And I highly recommend it as well. Those tripe are the best - melt in your mouth delicious dimsum!
Over the weekend I was able to try Silver Dragon's Dim Sum menu. I remember coming to this place when I was a child so these guys have been around for a while. Upon entering the restaurant we were quickly seated with the best seat in the house (close to the kitchen). As we sat down there was already a dim sum push cart in front of us. Then another 6 - 7 carts came in a row so we got our food super fast. We ordered the curry squid (tasty and flavorful),beef tripe (was okay but didn't have that ginger and onion taste), shrimp dumpling (average), eggplant and shrimp (saucy with lots of shrimp meat), fried shrimp and taro (good but too pasty), and sui mai (more of a lean meat which I preferred). Quality here is above average but prices are around $7 dollars a dish. Id recommend this place if you're looking to try something new.
Went here after a having a terrible experience at another nearby restaurant.
Food was good, service was about average, restaurant was clean. I've heard good things about their dim sum so I will try that next time. The only negative thing I have to say is that it took a while for me to get water and extra hot sauce.
Love and hate this place! :P The line-up is annoying and the service is not always the best but it is a very fun restaurant with unique options. I tried chickens feet here for the first time! You can order off the menu but more common is to grab items off the carts that roam the area. Don't be afraid to flag a waiter down if they have what you want because they seem to have routes they take and won't always come by your table. It's not too expensive given the variety.
Silver Dragon has a really diverse menu, with loads of options for all kinds of customers, from the “mall Chinese food” classics to more traditional dishes that suit a more authentic palate.
I tried the Shanghai noodles and they were wonderful. Very well seasoned and perfectly cooked noodles. Ginger beef was great as well, came in a mild sweet chilli glaze. But the chow neon noodles were surprisingly bland! Their prices are definitely on the higher side, but the portions are quite hearty. Their spring rolls were quite over priced for a portion of *just one* IMO, but I’ll just get fewer next time. Delivery was also prompt and friendly.
I would have rated 3.8 if I could. Been here several times, nice atmosphere, busy at lunch time, fairly tasty dim-sum, all the dim-sum are served on the food cart for your selection. If you want vegetable dish, will need to tell them, they have a few selections in small portions. You can also order big plate of vegetable.
the dumplings and chicken feet taste quite good. the sauce on the chicken feet is alright, I find it a little too greasy, or maybe that's just the way how its supposed to be. service is fast but probably because I'm the only customer during my visit! 😋
I had never eaten here before. My Chinese relatives came in so we stopped in for a feast of dumplings, rice, noodles, ginger beef, fish and lobster. It was actually pretty good for Calgary. Our waiter was helpful and made some good suggestions. The food was pretty fresh and tasty and my relatives from Hong Kong and Toronto were pretty satisfied.
God I love this place. My sister and I have been having Sunday Dim Sum here forever and it never fails to please. The steamed shrimp balls are glorious. You can also order additional items off menu. All of the staff are friendly, courteous and efficient. If you want to beat the big lineups, especially in winter, go just a little early like at 10 or so.
You can't go wrong. yum
Pretty exceptional dim sum. The restaurant is very welcoming, the staff are friendly, and I love the fact that they still serve everything with carts. I sampled the har gow, shrimp rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), pork and shrimp siu mai, shrimp siu mai, baked and steamed barbecue pork buns, lotus sesame seed balls (jian dui), deep fried pork dumplings (ham sui gok), stuffed bean curd rolls (fu pei guen), and egg tarts. Everything was absolutely delicious; the ham sui gok were particularly good: perfectly crisp and not at all oily, with a creamy, savoury interior. The pastry on everything was beautiful, the meat was consistently of a very high quality, and all the dishes were perfectly seasoned. I will definitely be back again and again.
A little pricey but worth it. Best ginger beef is awesome and the noodles dishes are great. The lemon crispy chicken dish was not my favorite. Tried to go a few times but was closed for private function, so if it is the weekend maybe try and check ahead of time for that.
Amazing dim sum! Busy busy place, make reservations for sure. I've tried most of the items they offer for dim sum and its all been delicious.
Probably one of the best dim sum in Calgary. It's been around for ages and is still great. The tripe was a little disappointing it was a bit too big and bland but everything else was fantastic.
We love coming here for dim sum, we come almost every Sunday. Food is consistent and the service is great! They have the carts going all over the room but if you don't see something you want you can ask one of the employees and they'll either go and grab one for you or place an order and bring it to you when it's ready.
This place can get busy on the weekends, if you go in and see a lineup coming down the stairs make sure you go up to the hostess desk and grab a number. The lineup usually moves pretty quickly. To pay, just bring your card up to the cashier at the front when you're done your meal. They accept debit and credit.
I absolutely love this place for dim sum. There's people walking around with dim sum in carts and you get to choose what you want to eat by pointing at it. Their calamari curry is amazing and sticky rice is the best in the city.
Have been going here for dimsum and love it. Finally went for dinner last night. Party ordered, 1st course Peking duck, squid in oyster sauce, asparagus in crabmeat sauce, satay beef chow fun and salt and pepper spare ribs. Peking duck was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. Duck so fatty and moist with sweet crispy skin. It was amazing. Squid in oyster sauce was a tasty dish but nothing to special, asparagus was very testy aswell as the ribs. Felt the chow fun was lacking flavour wouldn't order it again. I'll definitely be coming back here for dim sum & Peking duck for a long time!j
I like the dim sum here, I have a Chinese wife. It's definitely authentic, if in a little bit cramped quarters. Love the shu mai, which is always the measure by which dim sum is judged. But I can also say people think this is for sai guai lo (lo ti fan, aka 'white rice') and tend to stay away. But that shouldn't keep you from going, lol.
Our Dim Sum in Chinatown. The pork dumplings, steamed pork buns and sticky rice are all excellent (i.e., we don't stray far from everyone's favourites and Silver Dragon does a good job on all of them).
Two complaints: the carts can be slow and/or clumpy (i.e., nothing for too long and then too many in a row) and, they tend to keep bringing the same stuff around. No, I do not want more pork dumplings...how about some radish cakes???
This is our favorite spot to go for Dim Sum when we visit Calgary! The dim sum is superb and service is fast. I noticed that they have a pretty good system with the carts. When they fully sit the next batch of guests is when they bring out all the carts with the rice, the meat, the seafood etc. We have come here 4 times now. We make it a must every time we visit. Edmonton has the worst Dim Sum. Such a treat to have whenever in Calgary!
Had dim sum today with a bunch of friends it was excellent. The variety was top notch and the food was hot. We ordered congee as a special order and everyone thought it was delicious.
Good quality dimsum and full cart service.Huge selection of items brought to your table. Try not to get there too early or you get the leftovers though.
Been going to this restaurant for the past 18 years, and many of the staff have been there just as long if not longer. Every time I go there I am so happy to see familiar faces. This is the best dim sum restaurant in Calgary in my opinion. The sticky rice and coconut desert jello are my favorites- but everything that comes by in the carts is delicious. Will continue to eat here for the rest of my time in Calgary. :)
It is pricey, but in my opinion definitely worth it. I would recommend going with a group of friends and splitting the bill!
Excellent food, always enjoy everything. Great place for a large table of friends, restaurant very busy so a tad noisy, service not always the warmest, but the meal itself and dim sum is always great.
I love the dim sum here, great selection and very authentic, but for what it is, the prices are still steep. It gets very busy during lunch time with ridiculous wait time, better to come a bit before that rush starts to get a table.
Came here for my moms birthday. We went early in the morning so we got seated pretty quickly. I really like the method of pushing carts because you're able to actually see the food and know what it is. Pretty good for some quick dim sum!
Some of the best Dim Sum since I was in Vancouver. Worth the wait which can be long. Service was also great. Will be going back when ever I am in Calgary.
Please note that I only came here for dim sum and have never ate from the menu.
The entrance to this restaurant is met with 2 flights of stairs, and as far as I know there's no access for disability.
I liked the atmosphere, calm, relaxing background music, and clean.
We ordered hagao, siu mai, and lo mai gai. All of them were tasty and filled my stomach real fast.
A great stop for a quick dim sum eat and it didn't cost a lot. I would highly recommend to come in early especially on weekends.
Love the dim sum, it's hot, fresh and delicious every time without fail, love going there on Sunday's. However I was disappointed in there dinner service and wouldn't recommend it. While it wasn't bad it was nothing special and a little bit pricey.
Consistency is the key to success. Great dim sum. Year after year!!!
Service may suck but deliver is great. Come right on time and the for is hot hot hot. My favorite place for lemon chicken.
Love it here!. I have been going to Silver Dragon for over ten years and I still think it is authentic and delicious. Some of the staff struggle with English, but I've always been able to get any requests. It might be pricier than other restaurants, but it is consistent and fresh, which is all that matters to me. The place is usually packed with a lineup at the door, so it appears as though others feel the same way. There are so many great places to eat in Calgary, with few that I return to time and time again; however, Silver Dragon is one place I'll never stray from.
I come from a chinese heritage and we've always gone to silver dragon. dim sum is one of our favourite treats and it wouldn't be the same anywhere else. it almost always busy when we go so you can tell by the hustle and bustle that it's great
The real deal. Anyone searching for authentic dim sum, pleasant atmosphere, and good service need look no further than the Silver Dragon. Well run Chinese restaurant in Calgary, a rarity indeed.
Dim Sum good but long wait for a table. A very long wait for a table and having people waiting on the stairs is dangerous and awkward. they might be better off having people waiting downstairs and having a mic system ... I don't know... it was too hard for us to wait b=with a baby, 4 adults and 2 kids on the stairs so one person waited and the rest of us went for a walk... only problem then is that they wanted everyone there to be seated
Dim Sum was tasty and variety was good. Only complaint is that they use Dark Soy Sauce to serve to customers and I prefer light soy sauce. (very minor complaint)
Perfect. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't be happy here. Perhaps they don't understand premium Chinese food.
All ingredients used are high quality. Every dish I've ever had is perfectly done. I've been going since I was a child, and will never forget this place.
The hot & sour soup is PERFECT.
The price is worth it for what you get.
Also, try something different here. They have such a large assortment of dishes. There literally is something for everyone.
What an awesome dim sum experience! Excellent variety, all the things you would expect to see and even some you might not. From my previous experience the service here is better than most and one waitress went our of her way to search for one dish we really wanted, only to turn up apologetic and empty handed, not to be beaten she showed up five minutes later with it, she hadn't forgotten! You are sure to be impressed!
Went for dim sum and really enjoyed it. Food presented as fresh and flavourful. Staff was extremely attentive; which I had been worried about from previous reviews. We were seated in the room beside the main dining room. The only odd thing was that our section was completely Caucasian and the main dining room was primarily Asian.
Would def return.
65%. Food and service were good (i didnt see the prices...). a couple of dishes were a little salty. restroom needs repair (hate to see what the kitchen is like)
Love It. This is my families favourite restaurant, we have been going here for over 15 years, while their dinner service is average they have the best and most consistant quality of dim sum in all of Calgary.
Great Dim Sum, Great Service. I took the family to the Silver Dragon. After we had eaten (try the Chinese broccoli!), we didn't see my youngest daughter's favourite dessert on the carts. I spoke to the manager and she had it made up special in the kitchen. The desert (banana egg white puff) was excellent and so was the service.
Awesome!. Stars

Some of the best higher quality Chinese food. Bit expensive but sooo worth it!!! I have never had a bad time at this restaurant, only ever good memories! The service is actually decent for a China Town location! And the Duck wraps are to die for!
Pretty good. Not Mandarin quality, but not bad for Calgary.
It's Not McDonalds. I was picking up today, & I over heard another say out loud to perhaps the manager, that they loved the place so much, & it reminded them of McD's. That's a horrible thing to say, IMHO.
They make fast food even when busy, & a lot of their food is made from scratch.
Nice place for dim sum. I've loved their dim sum for years. My favorite is the deep fried custard buns ^_^ Nice atmosphere for dim sum. I didn't try many dishes this time. It's fun to walk up the stairs there. Down side is no parking downstairs. Parking in the basement of the government building is good since it's heated parking & only a block away. The one way streets downtown are confusing though.
Great place in Chinatown Calgary . The dungeon crab dish we had was good . The service there was friendly and fast . The Chinese broccoli we had was a little over cooked. The parking seems a bit difficult due to its downtown location. Overall a good place to try dim sum or Cantonese food.
Awesome place, exactly what you would expect to experience when you hear dim sum. Service is prompt, the carts with the dishes come around quite regularly. The variety is good too.
Authentic Chinese food as we had expected was wonderful and the service was great. After our fortune cookies they presented a rose for Mother’s Day! Very unexpected but was delighted. Thank you!
Nice restaurant with a pretty good variety of dim sum in Calgary’s Chinatown! Decent quality but some of the food was cold. The food was overpriced so not the best value overall.
Went for dinner. Loved the custard buns, shrimp dumplings and ginger beef. The siu mai was just okay but my husband loved it. The hot and sour soup was very sweet with hardly any spicy or sour. Still giving 5 stars because giving 4 stars would pull down its score and overall it's a solid dim sum place and very good by Calgary standards.
Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. Been for the Dim Sum and ordered takeout (usually for Christmas). Always fresh and most of the dishes are tasty.
Sooo many options to choose from, wow! Dim sum was delicious and standard price, the seafood hotpot was also quite good. The service is always top notch and love the old school feel of the interior set up.
High quality food with really nice and friendly service from all the staff. They have the best almond jello that I’ve ever had! Really creamy, and not too sweet either. Good variety of food on the carts
