Review Cibo - Calgary

Oscar Kwok
Came here during happy hour to check out the new market concept Cibo opened. There is now a self serve style market on the main floor where you can still order food from a regular menu but can also shop around and buy products and other takeaway food. The regular restaurant with full service is upstairs. We got the wild boar bacon and pepperoni pizza ($5.00 each) and the duck fat, egg plant, and mushroom appetizers ($3.00 each). They were all really good and we were really full. We also ordered the wine they had on special and it was really smooth and light. I enjoyed my time here as the food was great and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

One of the best Italian restaurant in town. They have special everyday such as pasta Monday half price, half-price Burgers on Tuesday and Wednesday is 3 course pasta meal for $12. And they have happy hour between 3 to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to closing. The happy hour include five bucks pizza 10 inch and $4 draft awesome deal. The food is awesome well seasoned and delicious. Must try to clam pasta very good fresh clams and very sweet tasting. The pizza is delicious too my favorite is the Hawaiian well worth it for $5 it is a steal. Definitely highly recommend.

This is my favourite pizza place in the city. They age their dough a few days so it has this great flavor and they have this oil for the crust that is just divine. The duck appy was a little disappointing and so was the pumpkin dessert. The meatball app was good but a bit small. Service was amazing and management is equally great. Love the decor and building! It has a lot of thoughtful repurposed design and is really interesting to learn about, ask the manager when you're in.

Friendly staff with a large open space or multiple sized parties. The food here is non greasy and quite tasty. The specials here (one for every day of the week) makes it very enticing to go such as $11 pizza on sundays. Otherwise, pricing is mediocre. The chili oil, provided with the pizza, isnt too spicy (more a mild kick).

I enjoyed eating here, the patio is amazing, so full of ambiance you feel as though you're in a little place in Italy. The Ravioli was amazing, the service was great. Sadly the patio is small and sometimes there's a wait, as you cannot reserve tables here, but having a drink at the bar while you wait is not entirely bad, everyone is friendly and extremely helpful. I would have given the extra star, but I find the menu to be quite limited, although what is there is very tasty.

Lunch portion is just right for me. The taste is the same as dinner quality! Try the truffle Parmesan fries! The anchovy on the ceasar salad is unique - will try that next!
S Balisong
Great daily deals and great ambiance for dates! I'm giving this place a 3/5 because I was disappointed with the Penne pasta for $18. I think it's way too expensive for it's lack of taste and overwhelming riccotta cheese. We also ordered a Ceasar salad with chicken and it was just bad. The only good thing about it was the bacon. The rest was dry, bland and the chicken was dry and cold like it was just pulled out of the cooler. However the service was good and the pepperoni pizza we ordered for $18 I guess made up for it.

I went here for my staff dinner and then again for their happy hour with my boyfriend. The pizzas were alright but the truffle fries were really good. The only complaint i have is that we got two orders of fries and the first one was burnt and not the best the second order however was so much better. The inconsistency really bothered me and he wanted to send it back to get it replaced but i felt bad doing so so we kept them.

We had an amazing time at Cibo this past Saturday. We reserved the private room and the service was top notch! Morgan (our server) was súper profesional, was able to keep up with 8 drunk and loud man, after consuming a bunch of wine, pizzas and appetizers. Thank you to all the Cibo team memebers (Managment, serving and kitchen staff), you guys made our experience an delightful one. We will be back!

The food was delicious. Our server was nice but very busy. The few times she did stop by she kept pushing the one extra chair into the table which was in fact smacking off my brothers knee each time. Other than that it was enjoyable. Bit pricy but good.

I'll NEVER go back to this joint! The male server was not friendly and we left feeling like were not appreciated. So many restaurants in the Beltline, so many choices. Tapas is code for small food portions at rip-off prices...

Fantastic food. Fantastic service. Fresh. Tasty. Great location. I recommend this to everyone.

Love this place. Every time I come to Calgary I have to stop in for a bite. Amazing food!!
Barb Beck
Great food. Great service. Nice ambience. The ravioli was first class. Pasta is made in-house.
Sharon Sutherland Porter
The lightest crust on pizza that I have ever had. Variety of toppings like I've never seen on offer before.
Anita Jeanine
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive! The entire place was spotless, thank you for being amazing! You guys were wonderful :)

Had a great dinner last night! Food was amazing. Between the 3 of us we had the olives, parm fries, 2 pizzas and the pumpkin ravioli. Raviolis in my experience tend to be hit or miss depending on how much skimping happens with the stuffing but the one at Cibo was perfect! We finished off with the tiramisu and cheesecake and found them excellent because they weren't cloyingly sweet. Good service is hard to come by in this city and we were extremely fortunate to have Kristen as our server. She was very pleasant and attentive to not only our table but her entire section and actually cared that we have a good experience.
Jenna Matthews
Amazing experience. Went there with over 25 people and had exceptional service for a birthday party. Thank you for the great experience, can't wait to be back! Highly recommend.
Matthew Redd
Food was great and Adam was an awesome server. Gave me some great ideas for traveling through the Rockies. We had a blast at Lake Louise, thanks Adam!
Clay Randall
The food was great but as always the service was slow and after we ordered it took 40 min for our food to come out. 0/3. Time to find another place
Amanda O'Brien
Absolutely absolutely absolutely amazing! The food was amazing, the drinks were great, the staff were super friendly and for my first time being there it was amazing and so so much fun and it just had like a really nice atmosphere and I loved how rustic it was but had a modern twist to it, I love how you can see the make your own pizza, the bar tender was amazing, super nice and super sweet. It was awesome and I would definitely go back there again and I recommend this to anybody that's looking for a new modern Italian restaurant!

my meal was excellent and my partners had gluten and they were informed multiple times of this allergy

Fantastic Italian food

Obnoxious place full of fakes and posers.
Andrew Haley
Most arrogant male server Tuesday night. Food is mediocre and beers 14 oz and wines 5 oz. Server told us Tuesday night wine specials are horrible. Why serve it then?<br/>Used to be good restaurant. Chicken was string and chewy. Gnocchi like erasers. Manager uncaring when we talked about quality of meal.<br/>Too many good restaurants to bother with this place.
Yyc_foodies123
Food was good but the potions were really small for the price. I think of Italian food as affordable and hearty; and unfortunately Cibo didn't live up to my expectations.
Whitegurlsushi
Decent 17th ave restaurant with an extensive food and drink menu. The decor is trendy rustic and vibe is fairly casual but can get busy for dinner rush and on the weekends. The pizza is really delicious and made with quality ingredients and the warm olives are delicious!!!
Merlina Almendra
We enjoyed the scodellina - very good choice. All food that we ordered tasted great. The service was amazing - thank you David. I ordered tiramisu with a candle on it but it came in like a plastic bowl with a candle - that was a bit of a downer. I was expecting a real nice looking, great-tasting tiramisu but it wasn’t. Oh well.

Even on a Friday night, we were seated quickly. I love that they have changed the appetizer menu, and increase the portion sizes. I have dined here many times, and I could make an entire meal out of appetizers! I love the mixture of fresh and cooked options. The Gorgonzola dish with apple butter and walnuts was so creamy, decadent and clean tasting. The cheese was chosen excellently as it was not overpowering. Truffle fries were exactly what I would want - hot, well-seasoned and with an immense serving of dip. The beets were good, but my least favourite of the dishes we had. The arancini were delicious, but could have used more salt. I have had the arancini here three or four times, and usually they are seasoned well. Overall, a great meal and service!

The wild boar bacon pizza is so good! It was the best dish we ordered. Second favorite was the lamb meatballs. The beets and fries were just okay. We were expecting red beets instead of yellow. The risotto was really wet and cheesy, didnt like it much. I would come back for $5 pizzas.
Travis Blondin
I had dinner there last night and while the service was good and management was friendly the food quality was sub par and the choice of wine that had been handpicked up management was tasteless. We ordered a few appies and wild boar pizza but I must say they were both bland and boring. I have been to the restaurant in the past and the food was great with so much flavor but it has gone down hill. I would recommend hiring a sommelier.  For the price tag it was definitely not worth it.
Kelso002
We stopped by Cibo for Sunday dinner where they offered 1/2 priced pizza and $4 draft beers. the interior looked nice and had an old rustic feel to it. We ordered the Wild Boar Pizza ($12 dollars) and Pepperoni pizza ($9 dollars) which came out of their fire oven. As for the taste I would say the best part is their chewy dough. The pizza on the other hand tasted flavorless and I felt the cheese was melted and not stringy (like day old pizza). What I did appreciate was the restaurant was not heavy on the salt which was nice. One of our pizzas came out like burnt toast but I guess that must be normal as the server didn't mention anything nor take the pizza back. I would personally see this as a quality issue. The beer was nice and cold though!
Megan Sereda
I love this place, the specials are amazing, and their are no mains over $20. I've visited many times and love sitting on the patio and enjoying a glass of wine with my pasta.
YYC_living
Great ambiance and service. I find the food pricey considering it’s served family style so you need a larger group to order enough food to have side plate options with your main. However this makes bill splitting a pain when not everyone is sharing the same side dishes and has different priced mains. The food is decent, but there are other options that definitely deliver the same quality of food at a better price point.
Catherine
I was there for lunch. Lunch combos are 15-16 dollars. I didn’t like their sandwich combo with mushroom soup. Soup was quite salty and was not made in the traditional creamy style, which I prefer. Paste as per photo was a better choice. It’s not really an authentic Italian restaurant in my opinion. It’s more like North Americanized fast Italian food. I have been to Cibo street food several times, and I don’t really see that Cibo has better quality food. Maybe because I haven’t had dinner there yet :)
Leslie Anne
Yummy inexpensive pizza (I came during happy hour), good service. For lunch time it was pretty quiet, I'd come back here again. Only problem I encountered was finding parking.
Mike Lubkiwski
Went to Cibo for a Birthday. Service was excellent from start to finish. Dining experience was exceptional, and the food was amazing right from the appetizers to dessert. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves a good atmosphere with amazing quality food.
Shannon Marco
Love the eggplant dip! Im a big fan of the tapas here. The happy hour is also great with $5 pizzas and wine. Great for an after work get together.
Lex_11
This is a tough one.....I really like the food, and I think the value is excellent.  Unfortunately I often find the service a bit lacking.  I usually sit at the bar and far too often the staff are hanging out talking loudly about customers they don't care for etc.  I still think it's generally worth the food for value, but a little training for the staff would go a long way.
Hitting The Sauce
Cibo has an awesome happy hour and daily specials. On Sundays, Cibo features half off pizzas all day long, as well as four dollar draft beers. The patio is also one of the nicest on 17th Ave. We ordered Philips Citricity Grapefruit IPA ($4), a mushroom pizza (hh $10, regular $20) and the prosciutto pizza (hh $11, regular $22). I found the chili oil for our pizza too mild – it tasted like regular olive oil.
Mandy
Fair prices, good portion sizes and nice atmosphere. Pasta has lots of flavour as did the side salad. I'll have to try the pizza next time because I've heard great things about it.
Coreofcoal
Tasty pizza, great atmosphere, awesome service. Had the pear pizza and wild boar bacon. Very unique and excellent. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't suck. If you suck, don't go there.
Sarah B
What we ordered: prosciutto, house bread, mushroom ravioli and boar bacon pizza<br/><br/>The good: Our water glasses were constantly refilled, quick and friendly service, the wine recommendation was great, the ravioli was delicious and addictive.<br/><br/>There honestly wasn't anything negative at all about our meal or service. Definitely recommend.

Cibo offers fair priced Italian food. They are constantly changing their menu. Sometimes they add something that I love and then they remove it which makes me sad. Their pizzas have s great crust, but I find that they skimp on the toppings. However, they do have an amazing pizza happy hour and they are definitely more than worth it at happy hour prices. When we eat here, I prefer to share a few items so at most we share one pizza with 2 other items and sometimes we skip on the pizza altogether. They have a lovely patio.

Went to a special  event, the bar was upstairs and it wasn't until the second glass of wine that the server informed me that an 18%  gratuity had been added, would have been nice to know ahead of time.  They had some appi's set up in the corner, I cannot tell you what they tasted like as you could not get to them, there was not flow to the service area, line too long and awkward.  looked  good though.  Needs to be better planning on flow

Great pastas! Not as pricey as your formal Italian restaurant but more akin to a traditional trattoria (Fast, fresh, Italian soul food). Enjoyed their pizzas and meatballs. <br/><br/>A member of our party was recovering from a chronic illness and thus required some substitutions. When we came here she asked the server if they could leave out any sugar or sauces on her roast chicken due to her situation. Not only did they make every substitution available to help her at the end of our meal, the kitchen staff covered the cost of the chicken and gave us several discount passes for the future. I can truly say I have never experienced such empathy before as we only asked for some basic modification. Speechless. Amazing staff.
Sumbe Yahe
Really good pasta dishes and great environment to enjoy. The patio in the summer is probably the nicest in Calgary, love the vines among the brick back drops. Clearly, this concept was well thought out, and it's akin to eating art.
Pierre
Cibo has a very nice ambience and friendly, attentive staff. Our server kindly paced the delivery of our dishes so that the table didn't get overcrowded. The Mushroom Aranchini and Orecchiette were quite tasty. Unfortunately the winter bruschetta fell a bit flat with an overly starchy texture. The Lady and the Tramp pasta dish had good flavour but was over salted, which was a shame since the meatballs themselves were soft and delicious. Prices are high but similar to many upper-end spots in the area.
Carli Van Heerden
Absolutely love the whole concept at Cibo, where it is best to order several different plates and share between a few people. A big group of us came out for a birthday dinner celebration. The service was quick and efficient, especially with all the orders! On our end of the table we ordered a few plates to share. First, the roasted eggplant antipasti, and the chopped chicken livers both served with crostini. Next were the lamb meatballs, which are amazing! And the calamari, which is served with polenta bread. This dish is more of an acquired taste - not your average calamari. We also ordered the Cibo burger, which was incredible, huge, and easily shared between four people! Others had the pumpkin ravioli and the mushroom arancini risotto balls. Overall a great evening of new flavors. Will definitely be back for the experience!

My friend and I drove by this restaurant many times and finally decided to give it a try. We ordered the 1lb salt spring mussels as an appetizer and shared the Cibo burger as the entrée. The mussels were well prepared and the broth was tasty....not bad overall, most likely I will order it again. <br/>The Cibo burger was definitely the highlight of the night. The burger was HUGE....and the patty was well seasoned and juicy. My friend and I managed to devour the entire burger and left the restaurant extremely stuffed. The price is reasonable and most likely I will be back!

Food was decent but the service was really bad. The waitress Sarah was really rude and answered our questions in a very condescending fashion. She had no patience and was very rude. She never asked how the food was and never bothered to make conversation. Will probably avoid from hereon.

We got: White gold ricotta, Gorgonzola dolce, Prosciutto di parma, Salt roasted golden beets, and roasted eggplant. All of the spreads seemed so delicious that we had some trouble choosing – we ended up getting some recommendations from our server as well to make life easier.<br/><br/> <br/>All of the spreads were really delicious and I personally thought that scodellinis were a great idea! I wished more restaurants offered them as a menu. Each spread was unique and creative, and they were all very flavourful. With the crispy bread, it was the perfect dish. I highly recommend you try them – it would be great to share among friends and family, or even enjoy them all on your own depending on your preferences!

Used to be a fan but not really anymore. Portion sizes were small for their once larger pastas and the meatballs were gummy. Broccoli Caesar salad wasn't great as well.
Simmer Minhas
I love the patio here, the house wine is actually good, and I'm a big fan of there old tapas menu, in the new menu the golden beets really stood out and the lamb meatballs are delicious!

The food at Cibo was fresh and delicious. I especially loved the appetizers we had at the table. The only negative aspect was the service: our server took almost 15 minutes to refill the crostini basket each time we asked. The pizza we tried (the basil) was absolutely delicious. The farfalle pasta dish with pine nuts, red peppers and pesto was fresh and flavourful. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud - which was a refreshing change from other establishments on 17th Ave. I will definitely be back to try more items from their menu!
One Nomad Foodie
This place was on my list and even though I liked the ambience and the staff, the food wasnt that great.. <br/>we ordered polenta fries, a spinach and feta cheese pizza, veggie risotto and some beer.. The risotto was really bland and not tasty even for a bland, creamy risotto.. The polenta fries were super amazing but the pizza was okayish. It was a white cream sauce based pizza which made it really different from the regular pizza but in the end, really missed the tangy pizza base sauce because it almost felt incomplete without it. Also, the pizza sides were burnt, so that part wasnt pleasurable to eat..<br/> Our server was really sociable and friendly and the vibe of the place is pretty happening, but the food wasnt worth the money and the quantity was really less, even for the concept of sharing and tasting that they have at this place..

Went with a friend and got seated in a very tiny table right beside the stairs. It wasn't comfortable at all. Felt like we were being rushed to get out the min. we got seated. Added on with the slow service, didn't clear our wine glasses, didn't refill our water, couldn't get second order in before happy hour ends. It really didn't make us feel like our business is welcomed at all.<br/>Their normal menu feels extremely overpriced, yet the happy hour special is truly a great deal.<br/>Bottom line, would definitely go for their happy hour special, but not for anything else.
Ktoovs
Tried out the new menu. Hated it. Super over priced for "family" style. $19 for 5 ravioli. Thanks but no thanks! Service was great, chicken was bland, pork belly needed to be crispy. Won't be back for dinner.
Justin Kettle
Stopped in for a beer and appies on Sat night. Seated at the bar near the pizza ovens. Cool to watch them make the food and had great service and appies. Recommend the roasted eggplant.
Cnote
The new menu is a massive bust.<br/><br/>I will fully admit that I did not understand the new menu, but apparently the server didn't either. Everything is clustered according to price now, but the descriptions are confusing and valid information (like protein sizes) is strangely missing. Our server was unable to make any recommendations and couldn't explain which items had dairy in them. I didn't think I was asking much?<br/><br/>The server was also lost with the wine list and stuffed the cork back in the bottle after pouring our wine. I'm pretty sure she was new? No a big issue as we have all been new and had bad nights before, but rolling her eyes didn't really earn her much sympathy. <br/><br/>After ordering the mains she came back 10 minutes later to let me know the pork belly was sold out, which was pretty odd for a Monday night when the place was empty (we might have been the 5th table seated). Again she couldn't recommend anything else so I wound up with a tiny (maybe 4 oz) portion of unseasoned fish in a bath of oil. I likely received more olive oil than fish. <br/><br/>The night was a bust and I won't be back until an actual menu returns.
Tronnie
A best place for Italian food. The food and atmosphere were good. In general, I have nothing to complaint about this restaurant.<br/>👍
Warning: They changed their menu and the portion sizes got smaller. If you are going to charge $16 for a saled make sure it has more than 2 tomatoes in it. That's not an exaggeration either. Guess rent must have went up. Service was good, but those menu changes are going to be bad for business, TIP: order from the kids menu, the pizzas are the same size and cost $7 instead of $18. Shame.

This restaurant has a very nice ambience coupled with great dishes. The waiter was very friendly and professional as well. I ordered a pesto pasta dish which was simply amazing, easily one of the best pastas I've had in Calgary. I tried my friends pasta dish as well, and likewise, it was just as good. The only thing I would have to say is its expensive, so be prepared to spend more than expected, but it is worth it if you're a big fan of Italian food.

This place has a lovely atmosphere! My favourite part of the interior design is the staircase, which has inspirational words highlighted at each step! Service is very good, staff were friendly and made good recommendations about the food. They also had reasonable knowledge about the wine menu and could recommend options according to your taste preferences. <br/>We ordered lots of food to share as a group, so we were really able to try a lot of dishes. Firstly their homemade focaccia bread is to die for! We ate it all so quickly we had to order another portion! My favourite appetiser was the aranchini (fried mushroom risotto balls). For pastas we tried the garganelli (bacon and chicken with pesto, roasted peppers and sun dried tomatoes), and the pappardelle (cauliflower, black kale, winter squash, and olives). We also tried the mushroom pizza. All the food was really good, cooked fresh, and flavourful! I would recommend all the dishes we tried, and more!

Right on the 17th Ave where is the great area to hang out. It has a great bar and patio. Foods are average but I like the fancy embience. Good place to have casual Italian food.
Scruffle
I love this place for the patio, and patio season is almost here. It's fun just to hang out. Oh, and the Zaa is fab too. The happy hour special is the best -- great value. This is a fave date spot, lol. Want to impress someone without blowing a load? Summer is almost here.
Hungry Hungry Hippos
Had a very nice lunch on the patio. The service was great even though the patio got slammed. We had a tossed salad and prosciutto pizza. I would recommend cutting the prosciutto for the pizza into smaller piece. When we would take a piece of pizza it would pull all the prosciutto off. The pizza was very tasty. The tossed salad was good but a little plain. It could use some more veggies, nuts or cheese. The dressing was very nice. We also tried the Nutella dessert which was good.

Even after making our reservation our table was not ready for 45 min and we had to sit at the bar until they were ready. When we finally got seated our waiter seemed unhappy to be there and forgot about our drink orders. The food was ok but the pizza crust was burnt so we didn't eat it. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

You can never go wrong with Italian food! I have eaten at Cibo once before and it was also really good. We started with 3 items from the scodellina list - roasted egg plant, prosciutto di parma and bruschetta. They were all so delicious, I would order the same three next time. For my main I had the prosciutto pizza: so good! The crust was a bit burnt but the rest of it was good. It also took a very long time to come. And for dessert I had the banana zeppole - highly recommend. The restaurant was very loud but the server was really nice and was helpful with our group bill.

I've been to Cibo a number of times and the food is always warm and delicious. The only thing that disappoints is the service. Every single time I've been there I've have to wait close to an hour for the waiter/waitress to come back with the bills, even after asking them numerous times.

Came with a large group and everyone was happy.  The service was great, all the food was tasty.  Everyone had fun picking off everyone's plate.   My ricotta gnocchi was do die for.   Loved it so much I tried making it myself.   Mine didn't compare.   Crispy but soft and pillowy gnocchi,, fresh lemon artichock sauce, not too heavy, just right.   Everything else we had was great too.   Nice and casual but beautiful dishes could be served in any high end place.  Good work

I love the atmosphere at Cibo! Lots of space, exposed brick, and casual trendy decor. Also they have parking! The pizza and pasta are pretty good. I recommend the kale salad. An affordable place to get dinner on 17th ave.
Bridgette
I absolutely cannot believe that they took their gnocchi off the menu! An absolute crowd favourite, it was always my go-to order and I would regularly crave it between visits! Was greatly disappointed on my last visit to find that it was taken off the menu as it was considered a "seasonal dish." Please bring it back!! It needs to be enjoyed year round!

My family and I all gathered at Cibo on Saturday night to celebrate a milestone birthday for our mom, and it was a fantastic evening.  I love the way this place is set up, it's a large space but feels intimate and cozy.  <br/><br/>Our server (I wish I could remember her name, she was wonderful) was attentive & friendly, as were all the other staff we came into contact with during our visit.  Our group included a child under 10, and she was convinced she and our server were best friends - she made her feel so special, offering to have a shirley temple made for her so she could have a grown up looking drink too.  Little things like that make a huge difference, and it was much appreciated.<br/><br/>The food itself was generally very good - we had several different appetizers, but the standout favorites were the golden beets, the polenta fries, the simple homemade Bread w/ oil & balsamic and the prosciutto.   They all come out so nicely displayed and was a great mix of options.  <br/><br/>Of course, the selection of wines and beverages made everyone happy - the staff make some great recommendations if you ask as well.  <br/><br/>The main dishes were the one place a few of us were not as impressed as we hoped to be.  With 9 of us in the group, there was a broad selection of dishes ordered, but almost all of us agreed that in general things seemed a little on the bland side for the mains.  I personally had the grilled tuna, which was very overdone and as a result, on the dry side, the sliced caper berries & sundried tomatoes added the the flavor a bit but the meat itself did not seem to be seasoned.   I just wished there was a sauce or something to add some moisture back - this was the same sentiment the others who ordered Tuna had as well.  My boyfriend & SIL had the steak, which they found to have a large amount of gristle that had to be trimmed away, and it too seemed a little under seasoned.   However, the rest of the table was very pleased, the favorite seemed to be the scallops & the Char.  The side dishes that you select to come with your main were amazing.  The risotto, eggplant, fingerling potatoes, roasted veggies, Brussel sprouts and polenta were all delicious.  We loved how they are presented in separate dishes so you can easily share them around, what a great idea!<br/><br/>Though not on the website, I wanted to note as well they DO have a kids menu, and it is great!  Very kid friendly, generous portions and the pricing is super reasonable - Cesar salad and pasta for her were only $10.  <br/><br/>Overall, we left full, happy and agreeing we would like to try this place again.  Next time I would really like to give the pizza a try, we saw it coming out to other tables and it looks fantastic!  <br/><br/>Thank you, Cibo, for a great night!  What a great place to hold a special dinner.
Cindy
I love the boar bacon pizza! Another thing I like is their pasta selection which is also very good. The pastas aren't too heavy and all have a unique taste. They have great sharing appetizers as well. However, if you're in a larger group, expect the food to arrive in 50 minutes or more. The overall service is very good. They don't split bills though.
Emily Russell
I've been here three times and I've loved it every time. Sitting at the food prep area is fun. The staff working making the food will throw in their two cents on the menu offerings which is fun. It also makes you feel great about eating their when you're able to see how clean and organized everything is. The food is 10/10, atmosphere 10/10, the staff are 10/10.
Beltline Bites
The space inside Cibo is, for lack of a better term, humongous. A spacious bar area is visible immediately as you walk in, with the open kitchen hiding in the back of the space. There is a fair amount of dining space around both the kitchen and bar – that in it-self would be enough space for a typical Calgary restaurant. But wait, there’s a whole other floor exclusively for seated diners, which makes Cibo a great option for hosting parties of any size. The walls are adorned with all sorts of fun and quirky decorations that I tried to capture with my little iPhone.<br/>For those that don’t know, Cibo has a Happy Hour on their pizzas where all of their pies are 1/2 price between 3:00 PM & 6:00 PM daily. Having arrived at 5:45 PM, we ordered two pizzas before I even got a chance to look at the menu. Ultimately, I left the decision of which pizzas to my friend, and we ended up ordering the mushroom & smoked scamorza (smoked cheese) pizzas.
R
Looooove coming here for their mushroom or pear pizza. Love it even more when we go during pizza happy hours right before they close! Tried their pastas a couple times here and there but didn't thoroughly enjoy it quite as much.
Lee Mo
I was terribly disappointed with our dinner at Cibo last night. After eating at Via Cibo, I really expected better. The gnocchi was extremely dry; no sauce on it, just raw spinach and grated mozzarella. There seemed to be no olive oil or anything to moisten it, it was nearly inedible. I was so disappointed as many people rave about this place. My husbands farefalle was good but nothing special. The service was fine, but for our one date night away from our baby this was a horrible choice.
Michael Leung
I came here with coworkers for lunch. We all got the lunch special for $16. I had the wild boar bacon pizza, roasted eggplant, and shredded chicken salad. Everything tasted great! There are still many items on the menu that I want to try and I will be back again soon.
FoodAndMussels
I've been to Cibo for dinner and lunch now. We ordered almost all the appetizers and most were good. I also tried the pizza and pasta and for the most part it's good. I wish I could say more but this place is just good. Nothing exceptional. Although their kids menu is of great value. I probably won't return not because the don't have decent items, I just find the menu boring and uninspired. Take it for what you will.

I've been here numerous times over the years and every time has been a wonderful experience. Always trying new things on the menu and it never disappoints. my most recent visit (August 2015) we ordered the Farfalle, prochiutto pizza and the lamb meatballs. All three I recommend! <br/>

This picture does not do this romantic but relaxed environment justice. I am never disappointed every time I am here. The environment makes it comfortable to have conversations and the servers are so genuine. I always start off with the three small appetizers that are served with the bread crackers. All of their pastas are well made and flavoured. A perfect place for a date or girls night.

Cibo's is an Italian inspired bistro that offers a classic interpretation catering to the ever growing popularity of pizza dishes. With two floors of seating and the acceptance of reservations, it is usually not a problem to get a spot at this restaurant, which is impressive considering its 17th ave location. I ordered the mushroom and prosciutto pizzas for our group, and was pretty satisfied with those choices. The crust was thin and crisp, but not too much that it felt like cardboard, maintaining the fine balance of consistency that is hard to find in Calgary's pizza scene. Overall, I would definitely go again to try some other things on the menu, but at half price during happy hours, it's hard to resist ordering a pizza or two!

The farfelle pasta is to die for, but the prices are not... If you go during lunch time they have specials which make your wallets a bit happier. The prosciutto pizza and focaccia bread are meh. I don't think I will be back for a while.

It's a nice place for a first date if you're feeling like a baller. You'll feel right at home wearing jeans and a t shirt or dressing up a bit. Best old fashioned I've had at a restaurant.

I've been here many times because this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Calgary. It offers great food for a reasonable price. Its right on 17th ave and the interior is well decorated.. Vibrant!  I've tried pretty much everything from their menu. I recommend their cibo chop salad (add chicken), Arancini, calamari,  roasted eggplant, mushroom pizza, house made ricotta gnocchi. For desserts, they're all good but I would definitely recommend their tiramisu (its made fresh and its delicious). Go to Cibo if you haven't already yet!
Yum
Went here last night for the first time. The service was good and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Love that you can sit facing the kitchen, and that they have a patio. I got the cibo chopped salad, it was delicious. My friend got the summer pizza special, it was alright, have had better. My only complaint is that it's a little pricey for fairly small portions, 15$ for a salad that was not that big and 18$ for a pizza and my friend was still hungry after hahaha. But cool place and good food for sure!

I wish I could give this place a good review, because the service was truly amazing. Attentive, well timed, greeted at the door... the staff here is really excellent.Unfortunately the same can not be said of the food. I had 3 of the Scodellina to start. The roasted peppers were bland, and desperately in need of salt - and the whole tinned anchovy on top was distinctly unappetizing. The Gorgonzola dulce was low-quality cheese, and badly balanced, though the spiced walnuts were delicious. The white gold ricotta was pretty delicious though.I had the Farfalle as my main, and the pasta was overcooked, was in flavorless chunks, and the whole thing was underseasoned. Won`t be going back here.

It's not bad but it's not great. Ironically, the best dishes I've had here are the appies and the pasta. The server was clueless about their drink special and it's way too loud inside. For pizza, I'd rather go elsewhere.

Cibo is fine, not exceptional and not bad. I'm giving them a 3.5 because I love the deals and specials and will go back for that reason.

cibo is definitely a hit or miss for me. i had the gnocchi and it was really good. the service was great and the overall meal was affordable and satisfying.
Food4thoughtz
i am not a fan of Cibo. I think its quite average. If you want good pizza, you should just stroll down the street to Una. The service is slow and the food is just alright. Not worth going back.

I've been here five times and every single time the food has been delicious and the service always amazing. Whenever anyone is looking for a new place to try I always recommend Cibo!

After a bout of the stomach flu, I am back! My apologies for the lack of posting the last 5 days, but, you can take solace in the fact that I’ve got a bunch of exciting posts coming up. The first starting with what is perhaps my favourite restaurant in town. Anna had a couple friends in from Edmonton so we took it upon ourselves to show them a good time. And what’s better than gorging and pigging out on the most delish Italian food?
Snacker
One of my favourite spots on 17th. Atmosphere in here is great (sit upstairs!) service is great and the food is fairly consistent. Definitely recommend sharing as the kitchen is generous with portions.

Eating at Cibo has been mixed for me.  I really enjoyed it when they first opened. everything tasted delicious and i went back a few more times after that.<br/>When I went for happy hour, i had a bad experience where the pizza that came out was cold and very soggy at the bottom. I know the pizza is cheaper for happy hour but was surprised how bad it tasted.<br/>I gave it another try and the most recent time i went, it went back up. Not to the expectation of the first few times.<br/>Overall i still enjoyed their pizza and pasta dishes.<br/>Sometimes i wish they didn't change too much of their menu.
Jenna
Awesome place! I always get the wild boar bacon pizza, can't go wrong with that! The service is usually good, they are attentive. They also have a pretty nice patio during the summer!

Appetizers: Ordered the bruschetta, roasted eggplant and prosciutto to share. I only recommend the bruschetta. FYI, you can ask for more crositini if you want to<br/><br/>Main: Ordered the chicken with risotto and charred brocolinni. The serving for the chicken was huge! Defintely made for sharing. I preffered the risotto (a bit on the drier side) over the brocollini<br/><br/>Drinks: Capucinno was nothing special. The bellini was awesome<br/><br/>Dessert: Ordered the pistachio panna cotta. The acidity of the berry topping was perfect to cut through the sweetness of everything else.<br/><br/>Definitely going back to this restaurant. It's does help that I live a block away from this restaurant.

Always a great place to have get togethers and be in a lively environment. The food came fresh and pizza was quite good as well. Their appetizers are to go for especially their kale salad. The idea of this restaurant is to order a variety of dishes to share among a group of people. <br/>Service may be on the slow side when it's busy but its hard to notice if you're in a large party and enjoying others company.

Definitely try the Aranchini and the Wild Boar Bacon Pizza. Service was good, friendly but kinda slow. Would go here again for Happy Hour.

First time here today! I really liked their beef carpaccio! I ordered scodellina. The dishes we got were the roasted eggplant, prosciutto di Parma and bruschetta. I also ordered their spinach salad. Overall, everything was really delicious. Service was also friendly too. I would come back agian.

One of our favorite places in the city! Delicious pizza, the $5 pizza happy hour is awesome. Yummy drinks. Beautiful patio and huge space so rarely have to wait for a table. Love taking friends here.

I really liked the atmosphere here. Great casual Italian place with a gorgeous patio. <br/>The pizza was great. Thick crust but it was very flavorful especially if you ask for their homemade chili olive oil to drizzle on it.<br/>The spinach salad was really disappointing, it said butternut squash & pine nuts, the butternut squash was only a garnish on top and there were no pine nuts. <br/>

Unbelievably Slow Service. Had a reservation for for a table of 15 for my sisters conovocation . First we were put in the wrong section, got moved after drinks were ordered. Dinner reservation was for 6:30. we had 4 small childern with us. 3 of the kids food showed up first, approx 40mins after it was ordered. Food came out very sporadically . My son ate and was falling asleep on my lap as we waited over an hour and a half for my Salad (along wiith the last 5 dishes). I finally told the server to pack it up for me to go before it even came out. My moms dinner came out very last (after I already left) around 8:10pm. I believe that her meal was all that was discounted off the bill. This is unacceptable service. The server was decent and aplogized several times but I dont think deducting a $15 meal made up for the poor time frame in which meals came out. I will never go back or recommend freinds to go. even if the food was amazing, waiting an hour and a half kills the whole experience.

Delicious Pizza. I will be short "best pizza i have ever had in my life "

Good Pizza. I went to this place for my birthday and got a vegetarian pizza for about $17 bucks which I think was a reasonable price. The pizza crust was excellent just like one from wood oven. The toppings were great as well and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top was an extra touch that added pizza its distinctive flavour. <br/>I also loved the restaurant setting. It is set in a historic corner orange brick building with very creative industrial/rustic feel interior.<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Apr, 2015-----<br/><br/>Excellent Food. I went to this place for my birthday. We ordered pizza and it was really good. The crust was excellent; just like the one made in wood oven. The restaurant interior was also very nice. Very rustic and industrial at the same time.

See who?. I can't understand why people like this place... there are better places to get pizza for cheaper. I can feel the money evaporating from my wallet as soon as I step inside. Slow service even when the place is empty, small portions, depending on what you order. Atmosphere just feels a bit off for me. Bonterra has a better vibe.
Cathy Lin
Its entree portion was quite small, given the price. Nothing blew my mind. Only thing I loved was arancini. Won't go again for dinner. Maybe happy hour...
Stacey
Neat atmosphere. Late night Saturday date with the hubby - we both liked Cibo. The place was packed but the tables are nicely spaced so we could still have a private conversation. Food was creative and fun.

Great pizza and slow service. I tried Cibo first time and was pleasantly surprised with pizza quality: good crust, aromatic dough and tasty toppings (Wild Boar & Mushroom). Happy hour offers 50% off all pizzas, such a bargain for quality! Patio is well protected from street noise by high walls, which I find beneficial. Service was friendly but a bit slow, considering not so many guests. Definitely will be back again.

Nothing special. <br/>Really slow service due to lack of servers. <br/>The pizzas are really good but the pastas are not that great. <br/>They raised their prices up too high. <br/>Their food gets worse and worse every time.<br/>

Great Date Spot. Came here on a second date. great atmosphere, our waitress was attentive and was quick to point out some popular vegetarian dishes which made it easier for me to order. <br/><br/>I would recommend if you are looking to have a simple and enjoyable night with few expectations.
Hugh
They've changed the menu and don't offer the wonderful sharing bruschetta - starters. Completely hit and miss on the menu. Seafood pasta was great. Chicken Caesar was shockingly bad because it was stacked with chilli (from salami calabrese) and capers - completely over done. Nutella calzone was great. Carrot cake doughnut was just awful. It was neither decent carrot cake or a scrumptious doughnut. Change these things out and we will come again.

Used to be my favourite restaurant. Cibo used to be one of my favourite restaurants. I loved coming for their happy hour pizzas and I especially LOVED the scodellinas (appetizers) that you could get. They took away everything that was good, and I probably will not be coming back here until they bring their old stuff back, which is very unlikely. Seems like they messed with a good thing..it's very unfortunate! I haven't tried much of their new menu so I can't say if it's good or bad, but all I can say is the old stuff is missed.
Rachelsim1
Love the service, miss the pizzas. Always love the service and atmosphere at Cibo. We wish you would bring back the Hawaiian and Mushroom (with hazelnuts) pizzas.

Too much has changed..... My husband and I used to frequent Cibo for the great food, prices and service. I would recommend everyone to try it out because it was never a disappointment...until last night. I was surprised when we arrived that they had done a total overhaul of their menu. The prices were double and most of the key items had changed. The roasted cauliflower which used to be a healthy option is now submerged in cheese and grease. I asked the waitress 'what happened to the old menu' and she said they had been open for a few years and the menu had been changed to a more 'upscale' offering. <br/><br/>Why change a good thing? I will not be visiting this restaurant again, nor will I recommend it to friends anymore.

Sitting here on New Year's Eve ready to enjoy a leisurely meal out. My husband and I ordered cocktails and then a bottle of wine. We also ordered appetizers and mains each. Our appetizers show up and not two minutes later our mains follow. I asked why the mains came so soon and the waiter offered to take it back and bring it out when we were done. Um thanks, but I didn't pay $40 for lamb so that I could let it sit under heat lamps. Pretty disappointing. Zero for one, Cibo.

Great service. I strongly recommend the pear pizza! Yum!

Ruined my bday and wasted my time and money. This is an email i sent them describing my experience:<br/><br/>Dear Cibo staff,<br/><br/>I have taken the time to email you to make you aware of some concerns I have in regards to the way you guys are taking care of your customers. Allow me to describe my situation and please let me know of your intentions on correcting these errors.<br/><br/>I made reservations at your establishment for my birthday because when I used to work at Cibo's I loved the food and the atmosphere, and I genuinely believed in the training you provided your staff. Last night I had my birthday thoroughly ruined by your staff, who were not acting in any way like I had been trained. I'm certain a Mr. Robarts or Mr. Hamelin would have been fuming if he had been served, or even seen one of their customers be served in a similar manor.<br/><br/> I walked in and waited patiently for the five young women at the front to stop gossiping with one another and checking their text messages. I was taken up-stairs with another server walking so impatiently close behind me she actually stepped on my heal. We were seated at a claustrophobic table in the corner literally beside the washroom (on my birthday? lucky me..). I was informed over the phone when I made my reservation that you guys were able to accommodate people who are celiacs. When we sat down I asked the waitress to take my girlfriend through the menu as she is a celiac and was uncomfortable with your guys' menu (we felt so accommodated already!). The waitress made it clear to us she could pretty much do most of the dishes gluten-free and walked away (so now I'm aware you guys are not properly training your staff to attend to the needs of your lovely customers). We asked for the artichoke bruschetta to start, and she says "oh I'm sorry we cant offer any crostinis with that but I'll bring it by with some lettuce you can put it on.". Immedietly we felt even more uncomfortable, can you imagine having to eat bruschetta on bloody lettuce? Where is the creativity in that? How hard could it possibly be to obtain some gluten-free crackers (there are tons of variety at the super-market). So we asked for polenta fries, and five minutes later our waitress comes back again. "I'm sorry, the kitchen just told me that there's a chance of cross contamination." Wonderful, so she really had no idea what items on the menu were edible for us, finally we came to the cauliflower dish, which was excellent!<br/><br/> Then it came time to order a main course- uh-oh.. so now we had to go through this again. My girlfriend said can you do pastas gluten free? the waitress says "oh i think so but not the pomodoro or alfredo sauces." well gee really? so whats left? she comes back yet another 5 minutes later and says "Oh we can do the pomodoro." So she orders the spaghetti pomodoro, and I order the $37 lamb dish (37.. is that right? oh it is? it must be half a lamb!) and to top it off the waitress says "Oh we usually recommend the broccolini to people ordering the lamb dish because it doesn't come with much for vegetables." So for $37 dollars I couldn't get enough vegetables with my meal? Who made this menu? The lamb finally arrives and more disappointment ensues, the lamb isn't hot, nor is it cooked through, I made a point of saying I like my meat done well. To top it off I received 5 of the tiniest lamb shanks I could imagine and the fat to meat ratio was 2:1, so I paid $37 dollars for a plate of food I would not have served to the bums shooting heroin out back the restaurant. Halfway through my meal my girlfriends dish arrived and my broccolini. This was were I got rather annoyed (as if I wasn't already), the sauce on the broccolini was disgusting, a complete disaster. It paired horribly with the lamb dish by a country mile, I'm glad I didn't ask which wine would have paired well with my meal. The pasta was even more disappointing, the noodles were flaccid beyond repair, and the sauce was bland and the cheese that was requested on top was missing.<br/><br/> At one point I got up to use the washroom, have you guys noticed its rather difficult figuring out which bloody washroom is which? finally i pulled out my magnifying glass and found the microscopic "M" above the handle on the door. Thankfully, I noticed right away I wasn't the only customer standing there feeling like an idiot, I hope that wasn't your guys' idea of a conversation piece. To top it off, when we left there were 2 of the 5 girls still at the front desk, and they never said a word. No happy holidays, no goodnight, not even bye. I highly recommend you guys' make a concerted effort to train your employees on the importance of accommodating celiacs, and how to pair foods, and maybe how to make customers feel well looked after. I can't even count the transgressions and misplaced rudeness on one hand! As I said before, I worked at Cibo's and Bonterra's and I don't remember anything I experienced being even remotely acceptable. I loved working for John, until I came across more lucrative opportunities. Now, I ask you politely: "How would you like to come out to Cibo's for your birthday?" I would like to know what it is you guys' intend to do about this?
