I've been coming here since I came back to Calgary earlier this year very frequently and never thought to write a review until now as I sit alone at the bar. I really can't do this place justice in words. The ambience , the food, the AMAZING staff are seriously what makes this place, in my eyes, a long standing 17th ave go-to.
Tips- come on wed wing night (not while on a juice cleanse like me currently, lol) try out their new wine list.... yes it's a brew pub but I'm not a big beer drinker and their new wine list is awesome ! Food- well I lived off their donair pizza for most of the summer but everything from their poke to their goat cheese dip and not too mention the wings I smell right now are all awesome! All that being said, I really have to say what makes this place for me when it really comes down to it though is the staff ... Everyone really just makes me feel like family , and yes I may come here a few times a week, but there's a reason for it! love u guys! Epic spot

Reading these great reviews just justify how truly great this company is. Last Thursday evening my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to fill up his empty growler. We decided to pop over here and it was definitely a great night. Our server Quinn was attentive and friendly with a smile that almost had me sold on the beer special (unfortunately I don’t drink beer). Both managers were on top of checking on us and making us feel welcome and special. We shared a selection of smoked meats and I must say it was so tasty. The ribs were so good, the meat just fell off the bone. The beef brisket just melted in our mouths. The poutine was great! The fries were so crispy and hot and the gravy was amazing. I really can’t say enough good things. As someone in the restaurant industry, I feel like there are not enough write ups for good experiences and these guys have done such a great job on all fronts! Keep it up! We will see you soon:)
Went for Family Day brunch. The place was packed, and service was slow. However, both the server and the manager apologied, and they deducted the charge of one of our menu items. Food, as always, was incredible, especially the Cajan Salmon! They have great beer, and my wife loved their peach cider. If you haven't been to Trolley5, I highly recommend you try it.
Trolley 5 is my new favourite place in town. Super friendly staff and great food makes you feel at home (which helps since I'm new to the city). Had many delish things on the menu but the breakfast poutine was over the top in goodness!
We had our company Christmas party at Trolley 5 last night. All of the staff were friendly and very accommodating and the food was delicious. The brewery tour was very informative. I would highly recommend Trolley 5 for events or casual drinks with friends
I have been coming here since I moved back to Calgary. It's a local place where the staff cares about you. Everyone is always so friendly, service is amazing... And of course the food and beer is good too! They care about the community which is a wonderful thing. If you're visiting Calgary you have to make a stop here!! #supportlocal
Juan was an excellent server and took care of me, as I’m celiac and needed gluten free. He was courteous and very helpful! Thank you for a great evening and for all your care! Bravo to Juan
Premium selection of craft beer, enjoy a few pints here on the regular, and it's great to try some of the guest taps. The pizza is also worth a visit.

Fantastic place...food is awesome and beer even better...it's an experience just going to the washrooms seeing all the beer vats along the way!
Visited for the first time last week. Great brew pub. Excellent selection. Courteous staff. Definitely recommend.
The service is always incredible and the food is amazing! Not too mention our server Abby had all the answers!! Oh and let's not forget the beer Our new weekly date night spot

New to Calgary, one of the first places I had a beer in town. It's quickly become my go to watering hole. Tasty beer, friendly service.
We absolutely love Trolley 5! Fresh beer, great food (the mushroom pizza is my favourite!) and amazing atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
Great food over from Scotland 🏴 friendly staff good beer
Today I’m trying the Pig n’ Pineapple pizza. I’ve had it before and was honestly one of the best I’d had. I went with the in house “Derailed Pale Ale”. Look at me stepping away from wine. Pizza was fantastic. Great with freshly roasted pineapple. Smoked ham bacon and a drizzle of honey. Josh behind the bar was great friendly knowledgeable service.
I’ve had the Brisket sandwich. The brisket was nicely smoked. Not too strong and shaved to perfection for the sandwich. A big shout out for the bun having one solid side. It flipped open. Did not loose a bite to the plate 😊.
It comes with slaw on top. I asked for it on the side No problem. I asked for an extra pickle. Again no problem
I went out of my normal wine comfort zone and had an in house Pale Ale.
Jordan’s service was second to none. Attention to customers was noted around the room. Explained the in-house sauce and checked in without being obtrusive. Friendly service from beginning to end
I’ve been to happy hour a few times. I really enjoyed it.
Was walking by on a Sunday. Brunch TIL 3. Why not. The Eggs Bennie was perfect. Like mine soft poached. Perfectly done. Choice of hash or fruit. $6 mimosas. Why not. I’ll be back!
Overall I’d highly recommend it when you are out and about.
Four of us went there for brunch. It was fantastic. We got mimosas, of course, and I ordered chicken and waffles. Likely the best chicken and waffles I have ever had. The portion was huge for what you pay.
The service was attentive and friendly. We sat there chatting for hours and they were friendly and welcoming the whole time.
Definitely recommend for brunch. We will try dinner there next!
Came here for breakfast on Sunday with friends. Didn’t realize they book up so quick so were seated at the bar. Hostess was friendly. It was nice that all of their items are customizable. I didn’t want peppers in my breakfast poutine, which was no problem (nice to not be told that it’s all premixed). Boyfriend doesn’t eat pork but wanted to try the Benedict, so they put brisket on it. Food did take a while to come out, but when it did it was definitely worth it. Breakfast poutine with chicken was delicious. House hot sauce was just that and boyfriend really enjoyed his Benedict. Will definitely be back.
Neat spot and busy ! Servers and manger were very friendly, food and drinks came out fast ! For the price the food portions are big and full of flavour ! We could have easily shared rather then ordering our own meals. Happy hour was great $4 beer, hiballs and wine. So we left happy !
Beautiful day for a patio lunch. Got there by noon which was fortunate as the place was pretty much full by 12:30. We took seats just inside and enjoyed watching the world walk by. Service was efficient and friendly. Tried the house lager which is very tasty. My friend tried one of the mixed pints, also positively reviewed. After our conversation slowed we ordered some pulled pork sandwiches. These were awesome. The pork was really good and the slaw used in the sandwich is perfect, providing some crunch and some sweetness. Nothing was left on my plate! The venue is modern, nice design although somewhat loud. Good vibe. Check it out.
The food was so good. Pizza was amazing and they brought us multiple dips was very good service. The beer was yummy really enjoyed our time here. Would go back again for sure
I have never written a review before, but I feel as though this place is worth writing about. I came here with my wife a few weeks ago before a hockey game. We are generally very early arrivers so it was no issue getting a table, staff was very friendly and informative about the menu and beers on tap. I had a BBQ Chicken Pizza as it was on special for $16, and it was a good size pizza for that price, had plenty of leftovers! My wife ordered their Southern Fried Chicken burger but was told they were out of the Chicken needed to make the burger, so she ordered the Pulled pork and was impressed with the size of it, and how well it was cooked. The restaurant started to fill up and we were sitting at a table for 4 even though it was only the 2 of us, we were asked if it was ok if another couple was sat next to us as they were limited on space, so we said of course. The couple next to us ordered the Southern fried chicken burger as well, and either the kitchen had found more Chicken to make it, or they had brought more in, either way it was available. The waitress, realizing my wife had been told she wasn't able to order it, felt instantly terrible and apologized profusely that it was not available when she ordered, and told us why it was not available at the time but is now. My wife was not upset at all, was more than happy with her pulled pork sandwich, but we were just impressed that the waitress cared so much, and was willing to offer an explanation to us, so good on her! I hope to come back again soon to try a few more of their beers, and I think I need to make a run at some of their BBQ smoked meat options as the whole place smelled of it and it smelled great.
One of the best restaurants on 17th! Great atmosphere and even better food. Any of the smoked meats are simply the best and I would highly recommend. They also make their own beef jerky which is awesome. Although I didn't try any of the craft beers I did have the best Cesar ever here as well! My only criticism would be the mac and cheese which wasn't all that good but otherwise make a reservation and enjoy your night!
I've been here twice on very different occasions and had nothing short of a great experience each time. First time was for brunch with friends over the weekend, service was fantastic and friendly, even joked with us about how old my friend and I were for knowing the 90s music they had playing that day, food was great. Three of us ordered eggs benedict, another friend ordered the chicken & waffles, we all tried a bit of each others' food and it was fantastic. I love the interior and setup for everything, we definitely want to go back for a brewery tour. It was during the YYC Closet Haul sale they had going on upstairs, where well-known fashion bloggers/stylists from the city had secondhand clothing on sale, so it was quite busy. Props to you guys for juggling the event upstairs and keeping everything operating smoothly downstairs.
Second time was late in the evening for drinks after a friend's birthday event. We ordered wings as well and service was fantastic, the staff were super knowledgeable about the different brews you guys had.
Definitely going to be back, and I'd recommend it to anyone for a place to stop in for drinks, food, brunch, pretty much any time of the day they're open.
Me & a couple friends of mine came here on a Sunday afternoon for some food & mostly beers. Our server was awesome super friendly & a good knowledge of the menu & beer & made our experience so much better. I tried multiple beers but my 2 favourite where the 'First Crush White IPA' & the collaboration brew with Gigantic Brewing. I ordered No.5 Eggs Benedict & my friends ordered the Dim Sum Dumplings & beef jerky. The eggs benny was really good one of the better benny's I have tried. The beef jerky was delicious as well & so where the dumplings but unfortunately you only get 4 dumplings for $12 which is a bit ridiculous. All in all I really enjoyed this place some of the food prices are a bit pricey for what you get but still a good time.
Great beer selection. Ordered the chicken and the ribs, as well as the pulled pork poutine. The cornbread is one of the better ones in the city, the poutine side was top notch, and the chicken was good. The St. Louis ribs were unsalted and barely spiced, which is unfortunate as they were really soft and tender- but without flavour, not worth the time, and not worth the name of St. Louis!
What makes it worth a 4 then? Front of house staff. Happy, friendly, engaging, talkative without hovering. These ladies and gents have a really good customer approach, which is what most places in Calgary lack.
Great atmosphere, and decor is very cool with the bottle conveyor belt through the entire place. Came here for a birthday. And we were seated in the back where they have a private room. Able to seat close to 40 people.
Ordered the half brisket and picked two sides of yam fries and slaw. The dish was very good, small though, but price was reasonable.
Great place to have a birthday. Parking is on street.
Had the ribs today on special. For $7 it was tasty! Good texture and crispness. The added 5 bbq sauces as options is a nice touch. Looking forward to trying the other food. Too bad their white ipa was out but I guess that means it's selling well. Keep up the good work Ernie and PJ!
Trolley Five has a great industrial vibe, with tons of burnished metal and exposed light bulbs. The service was really friendly, helpful, and attentive, and seemed genuinely interested in how we were enjoying our meal. I tried the Southern Fried Chicken Burger ($16) and sampled the Classic Burger ($14) and the Derailed Beef Dip ($16). The chicken burger was pretty good; the batter was nicely crisp and the chicken was moist and flavourful, but the batter was slightly over-seasoned. The burger was also quite good, with a lean and flavourful patty. Both of the burgers had delicious buns. The bacon was also really good. Unfortunately though, the beef dip lived up to its "derailed" quality as it was a bit of a train wreck. The meat had a strange shredded texture, and the whole sandwich was saturated in an overpowering smoky flavour. However, the bun was still good. All the sides were a bit underwhelming: the potato salad was a bit too oniony, the cornbread had nice flavour but was very, very dry, and the fries were passable but nothing special. I think that Trolley Five is definitely somewhere you should return more for the great atmosphere and house-made beer than the food.
Wow, what a fun new place! Had a great glass of wine and delicious poutine to share. Such a cool interior and they have a trolley belt of growlers traveling through the whole restaurant. There is also a brewery located right inside, with tours to sample their beers! Will definitely be back to try more items from the menu :)
This place has insane interior. Very industrial but also very Art Deco. Love the belt of bottles going around the whole place . Had their wine. Their menu looked very good, would still love to try some of their dishes. Fair to high in prices but portions looked relatively large. Staff were friendly, service was good .
This place actually beat my expectations. First, the venue itself is unique and visually engaging – there are massive steel beer caldrons that poke up from the basement floor and their home brew bottles travel throughout the bar on a conveyor line. The patio is massive and extends far into the actual venue itself giving those who aren’t actually out in the sun the feeling that they are still outside. I really like how they retained the classic Melrose “people watching” south facing sit-up bar that overlooks 17th Ave.
The food was excellent. We ordered brisket, mac and cheese, rib appetizers and quesadillas. I’m a self-proclaimed bbq connoisseur and though the brisket wasn’t quite as good Palamino’s – it was exceptional. Best of all, the portion size was amazing. The mac and cheese was good and tasted like it was made from scratch but did lack a bit of flavor. I think mac and cheese lovers will really like it, but for me I just think it needed another flavor or topping to make it really good. Again, the size you see in the photo was a “side” portion and it was like a full meal – kudos on portion size. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone and flavorful and the quesadillas were really good as well.
Service was prompt and friendly. We'll be back and it's in my top 5 right now in Calgary.
We came here during Stampede for a friend's birthday, and found out it had only been open for a week. The place was amazing. For starters, it looks awesome. They have a big patio and a huge opening window so that fresh air gets into the entire restaurant. They also have a growler train (pictured) that runs through a couple of levels. We loved it. Our food was great too. Of the 3 meals, all were delicious (except for the pulled pork featured with the chicken, which lacked flavour). However, they do have a whole sauce tray to pair with your dishes. Make sure you try some of their home brewed beers as they are a brewery. Most of the ones we sampled were delicious. Our server was great too, she was friendly and quick despite how busy it was. We'd be back again for sure. It looks like a great place to have a big night out.
Update: we went here for Alissa's Xmas party and the service was exceptional! Not only were they great at tracking everyone's bills separately, but our server also made it very clear at the end of the night that 18% gratuity had already been added to the bills. As everyone was very boozy by this point, I respect the honesty of our server, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed that tip was already included and tipped on top of that. Well done Trolley!
On Saturday, I coaxed L out to try Trolley 5 Restaurant and Brewery. All along 17th Ave, even the most popular restaurants sat empty. However, when we walked up to Trolley 5, the patio was jumpin’. Have you ever heard Destiny’s Child’s song Jumpin’, Jumpin? That’s what the energy was like, though with Alberta adjustments.
I’m going to give this place a five star review because of their chicken sandwich. There was a group of us and everyone that ordered the chicken sandwich absolutely loved it. (Photo below) I ordered donair pizza, it was OK. 5 stars for the beer flight. The 5 assorted brews were super tasty - presentation was OK - photos below. I’m writing this review with the hopes Trolley 5 will read this review as this restaurant has so much potential. I will go back and order the chicken sandwich 😂 😂
What a great time we had as a family for brunch today. Our server, Madi, was awesome. She recommended a few stellar drink selections and then helped us choose our brunch entree’s. We enjoy the Trolley Zombie and the Tropic Like it’s Hot for bevvies. We had the Layover Key Lime Pie Sour Beer. All of our entrees were delicious: we had the Brisket & Egg Sandwich, Friends with Eggs Benedict’s & The Fog Horn! We also ended up filling a growler with the Yacht Rock and it was a grapefruit raddler! Lastly, we picked up a four pack of Oh Yeah - Strawberry Kiwi Gose. Overall, a wonderful time. We will be back for sure. Too many beer and cocktail choices for one brunch. Thanks for an amazing experience.
We booked the upstairs atrium (semi private) for my dad’s 50th birthday. My mom is usually very strict and has high expectations for parties, but Terrylin and the entire staff like Tracy and Ben exceeded our expectations and truly made the night special for my dad and all our guests. We definitely recommend Trolley5 to all our friends and family!
Great spot for lunch. Stopped by here today as two families and the brews and food were great. The place is not family friendly exactly (no highchairs or kid friendly equipment) but that is to be expected and not a slight on Trolley 5. Our situation is unique and we get that. They still made us feel at home and the service was fantastic. The First Crush IPA and the Blonde Stout were fantastic. All the food we ordered was top shelf (brisket, dumplings, soup, fries, salad and the hangover sandwich). Will definitely come back here and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to try some great local brews, food and service.
Trolley5 Brewpub has been great to work with! We originally booked our staff Christmas party here, but with Covid-19 restrictions we unfortunately had to pivot and cancel. We then worked closely with them to create a custom beer we could give as a gift to our trades/suppliers and it was a very easy and seamless experience and we ended up with a great beer. Thanks to the entire team at Trolley5!
Absolutely love it here. Good beer, good prices and a great atmosphere. The made in house beers are delicious and this place is a favourite for me. I go here regularly and recommend to anyone.
