I've always had a great time at Local...great service, lots of beer selection and decent food. The deluxe burger is the best burger I've had downtown.

Brilliant set up! We had Calamari which was good. Fully Loaded nachos were OK Ok, could have been more loaded. Chicken quesidela were yummy. Ale was fresh. Overall a good experience.
The tuna club was delicious. Packed between toasted bread was a cool piece of seared tuna, crispy smoked bacon, melted cheese and ample slices of avocado and tomatoes. I liked that each bite of my sandewich contained some tuna. The yam fries had this decadent truffle lemon mayonnaise with parmesan cheese. My half portion was perfect. I was left full but not stuffed.
This is one of my favorite places to have a few drinks and snacks. They have very decently prices cocktails, and a nice selection of beer (although they got rid of my favorite q____q). All the food I've had has been amazing (guac, quesadillas, perogies etc) except for the nachos (too much bean for my liking). Most of the servers are great, the interior is attractive and comfortable, and the washrooms are really nice in a dungeony kind of way. This is also a great spot location wise because it's close to mcdonald's and right across from the palace.
This is my favourite spot in town when I just want to sit and grab a few drinks in a nice atmosphere. I love the yam fries along with the churros they serve with marshmallows and hazelnut cocoa.
I really like this place. It has a good rotating beer selection and good service on a busy night. I keep coming back here. I haven't tried the food yet but everything I have seen looks good.
Had drinks and some appetizers at this pub. Drinks were reasonably priced but the food portions were quite small. Poutine appetizer was $12 and was very small. Saw another table ordered some nachos which were also a small portion size. If you have an appetite highly recommend eating before coming here for drinks.

When you think of food pairings, the first thing that comes to mind is what type of wine you would like to drink with the meal. However, recently there’s been a growing trend in the food industry that’s making waves. We’re talking about food and beer pairings. It’s not necessarily a new concept, when you go to the pub you’re eating pub food and drinking a beer, but it could be any beer and whatever food craving at the moment. More recently beer enthusiasts are bringing the pairings to a different level and recently I was able to attend an event that featured Red Racer Beer, a local Canadian beer pairing with specially selected dishes at Local on 8th.
Pleasantly surprised again by the fish tacos we tried yesterday while we also enjoyed a couple of happy hour vinos with the after-work crowd. What is in that sauce? I wanna smear it all over. The fish is beer-battered and buried under slaw so that may not appeal to all but certainly yummy. Great service at the bar.
I’ve actually left a review for Local for dinner and it was a decent meal, but I came back for an early lunch and I found it a much better experience. My sister and I needed to grab a bite to eat before hitting up Theatre Calgary for a play. So as we strolled down Stephen Avenue debating our various options we finally decided to pop into Local.

Good drinks, good atmosphere - although it can be a tad loud so not exactly the best place for a conversation, more of a yelling match but I love it. The drinks are good. The fish tacos are my favourite at $5/taco, can't go wrong!
The fish and chips were pretty darn mediocre, despite the push the waitress gave us to try them, batter was thick and greasy and the fish were quite overcooked. Should probably have gotten the fish tacos instead. My friend loved her burger though, they are definitely a safe bet. Service is good, and prices were fair. Little on the loud side, but the place has a really fun vibe and all kinds of people seem comfortable hanging out together, very relaxed atmosphere.
Been here a heap of times for food and drink. Always a pint on special and the food is always great pub grub. Had the crispy chicken sandwich and Mrs had the local both hit the spot. Continue to come back.
This place is best known for their fish tacos, but I wasn't feeling it today so I decided to order something else but my friend did order them for her lunch. The fish taco are fairly good size and filled up so you don't feel like you are getting ripped off for $5/each. I got the calamari and quesadilla and they are smaller portions but both very tasty and I like the dip that went with the quesadilla.

I have been to local probably around 10 times in the past couple years and I really enjoy it overall.
Pros: The location is very convenient for the downtown crowd and the atmosphere is cozy and cool. They have a good beer selection and their weekly beer rotation and daily specials gives a lot of variety. I do enjoy their cocktails as well!
I really have had only good experiences with food at Local. Most recently, I shared the Brooklyn Burger with sweet potato fries and the pulled pork poutine. All were very good! The poutine was a bit over salted but the burger was very tasty! I also really enjoy the Baja tacos!
Cons: they don't take reservations unless you are friends with the owner or a special list. If you are trying to get a big table, it's either go early or good luck. Another con is the infrequent service. You really have to be willing to flag down a server if you need anything in a timely fashion. One last problem is that drink orders are frquently forgotten or taken to the wrong table.
Overall I like Local. It's a nice place to get a beer and a snack and will go back!
Great spot for a downtowner looking for a drink and grub after work or at lunch. Most of the beer specials are great after work, and the menu does justice with the burgers. Their Veggie burger is surprisingly well done as well.
I stopped by Local on a Thursday night and the place was bumping! I had only been a few times before so it was great to see that Calgary's downtown happy hour scene is still vibrant. Even though it was quite busy, the service was still pretty decent as we didn't have to wait long for a table, our server was quick to bring drinks and take our orders and the food came in a very reasonable time. It was the perfect spot to meet up with a girlfriend before going out to a show.
The menu is pretty short and concise - which I actually like at a pub because it seems like they can focus better on quality over quantity. I ordered the tuna club sandwich which is actually a seared ahi tuni with avocado, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Sooooo delicious. Highly recommend to anyone who likes ahi tuna.
My favorite burger in the city! I had the local burger without the jalapeño! The beef was nice and juicy, and the sauces add a nice kick to it! So tasty! Will def be back!
The staff appeared to bustle around but never really attended our table - we had to wait for quite a bit and watched as servers chatted by the other tables. The food, however, was delicious and filling - the burgers were juicy and the portions were fairly large.
It was the first bar I visited in downtown, Calgary. Loved it! It was pretty crowded and full, like any other bar. I think its a pretty lively place. Nice place to chill. Food is good. The beer is good. The service and servers are really nice. They sure do know their menu well. :)
I'm a regular and have tried most of the menu. The food is usually pretty good plus it's a relaxed atmosphere with casual food and decent prices. The drinks are reasonably priced - including a $4 no-name glass of wine which can be aright for the price. Love the fish tacos, fish n chips, and huevos rancheros.
I love it here! So far I have enjoyed everything I have ordered from the menu. I like how you are able to see through the kitchen and find the atmosphere cozy and warm. The churros and nachos are fabulous!
YUMMM! Local is one of my favourite places to go to watch the flames game or basketball while enjoying some delicious food and drinks.
When i'm here i usually order their Pimms cup or the Kung Fu Punch boot. Soo good. For any of u that don't know what Pimms is; its the Preferred drink of British people everywhere. Pimm’s No. 1 Cup, ginger ale and cucumber on the rocks with fruit. the fruits and cucumber make it soo refreshing.
For food i order: Baja Fish Tacos (the best), Crispy chicken sandwich and their fries are soo good with the truffle dip (way better than ketchup lol)
For dessert we always get the churros. Not like the authentic mexican ones but close enough for Calgary haha.
Time to go back soon!
I love the fish tacos here...actually i'm kind of addicted to because I always crave it. I prefer to have it without the cilantro because it's kind of over powering. The batter on the fish is perfect! It's light, crispy and not greasy. The tuna poke is okay sometimes it's too salty. The rest of the menu looks good like the huge burgers but I've never tried it yet because of the darn fish tacos! The service is pretty fast and I will be done lunch in less than an hour.

I went back for the fish tacos and ended up trying the buger too because my friend decided to share. The fish taco is still delicious and I love the garlic aioli. I had the Brooklyn burger and while it looks delicious it was just okay. Not a fan of the red pepper relish it was way too sweet. The yam fries on the other hand was really good. Crispy on the outside and still a little soft inside.
Got the Ginger Sesame Chicken Salad and it was UNREAL. My only complaint is how terrible the service was. Our server was absent basically the whole time we were there and by the looks of it she wasn't that busy so I don't know why she neglected us so much. I wish the experience was better but the food is definitely worth it.
I came here a few weeks ago with some friends after work for dinner and drinks.
The service was fantastic- in particular we were greeted by one of the managers (i think named Steve?) who was very charming and attentive. Great environment and the food was perfect. We are definitely going to make this a regular spot.
I like coming to local for drinks after work, have not had a chance to eat here yet but think it's a nice chill spot with friendly people.
Delicious, and great service! The burger we got was very good, and we also loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Food took a little long but was worth it. Overall we were very pleased. Will be back.

Local - Friday March 27, 2015. Went on a Friday night, which might not have been the best idea. It was rambunctious, however, I found the bartenders and servers attentive and conscious of their surroundings. The establishment seemed one of the more popular places for those who work in the area to have a beer or shot with friends or co-workers after a hard day.
As I was alone I placed myself at the bar. My bartender was finishing off his shift, and at one point because it was so busy I did have three different gentlemen looking after me. From my original bartender I ordered a pint of Guinness, one Baja Taco (chicken) and to surprise me with a main. What really caught my attention, was that he asked me if I had any allergies before placing my order. Which I greatly appreciated.
The pint of Guinness was poured perfectly, and the Baja Taco came out quickly. It was a zesty, sweet crunchy delight. I wish I had bought three. I found the chicken to be cooked well and very moist and the toppings to be delightful to my tastebuds.
My surprise meal: Ahi Tuna Sandwich with Yam Fries. Imagine a BLT, but with Ahi Tuna and avocados, and you have the Ahi Tuna Sandwich. I liked the new take on the sandwich, but I think the yam fries really stole the show on that plate. They were delicious! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I found mine had this little bit of sweetness to them, which could have been from the yam itself or the seasoning, either way they were fantastic. I would go back just for those fries.
For dessert, I asked for the Churros to go. I didn't think I could possibly eat another bite ... until I got home. The ones that I ate were soft and chewy and rolled in oodles of brown sugar and cinnamon goodness, that just happened to come with a smooth and creamy chocolate ganache for dipping. Should the rest of the Churro sticks survive till morning, they will make a wonderful addition to breakfast.
Overall, it was a good experience. The service was good, and the food was delicious. I would go back for seconds, or thirds (of yam fries).
Always packed!. The food can be good but when it's very busy you'd think you could get hot fresh food but it always seems to arrive warm if not cold. The waitresses have always been very friendly. Go there when it's slow and have the Yam Fries or the wings the best in the city. They pour a great Guinness.

Really good value. Quite simply the best burgers in the city. $13 is great value. A great range of beers and fairly priced at $5.50. I have always had great friendly service here. Good atmosphere, nice looking inside. Probably my go-to place on Stephen Avenue from now on.

Best Pub Food I've had in a while. This is the one pub in Calgary where every dish I have had was just amazing. Went here to catch up with a few friends and I was really hungry so I ordered the Crispy Pork Dish #49 to start while we had drinks. For $ 8.50, I was expecting a lot more that just 3 thin strips of pork belly, but, the jalapeno coleslaw and the scallion wraps provided were delicious and made up for this! For a main I ad the Huevos Rancheros with Free-Range Eggs. It was amazing. One of the top ten dishes I have tried in Calgary for sure. It was extremely flavorful without being too in-your-face with the spices. I would definitely recommend this dish if you are in the pub and want to eat something out of the ordinary. I also tried their (only) dessert- the churros. I think the ones in National on 10th are better but I liked the presentation- they were served with hot chocolate and slightly charred mini marshmallows. The place is a little crowded and getting around is a bit of an issue, but the food is delicious and I loved every dish!!!

Loved the food!. The Eggs Benedict with the back bacon was absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly considering it was so busy Saturday for brunch. I would definitely go back!

- The Manager guy (Jeff or Jeb?) doesnt ever return proper change when you buy drinks with cash. Or when you pay with cash, he takes his time so that you get fed up and leave and that would leave them a larger tip.
- You can never find a table. Its a hit and miss.
- To summarize, I'd rather go to one of the two places right across from this one. Higher drink prices yes, but atleast they dont act like a teenager working a bar.
Fish Tacos. The fish tacos at Local are the best I've had in Calgary!! So addicting. The nachos are awesome too :)

We like it. Nice decor. Food shows an attention to detail and flavour. Great service. Been a couple of times and will return. Beer special on Saturday is nice...not normal for Calgary.
Solid. Great beers, love the rotating taps, convivial atmosphere, super friendly servers and bar staff and a tight menu. I love places where they have a shorter menu and are really good at a few things. It's better than having a menu like a bible trying to do everything under the sun while only being average at all of it.
Baja Rice bowl, tuna salad and tuna wrap are great. Honestly you cannot go far wrong with this menu.
Local is a great compromise between a pub and something more high end. No matter what walk of life you come from, if you're downtown you'll fit in at Local.

Tried Local for the first time yesterday and loved it. Had the pulled pork sandwich special for lunch and was there long enough to have the Deluxe Burger for dinner. Both were very very good and far exceeded my expectations for pub food. Service was good despite it being very busy all day, and I like the rotating beer selection. It also wasn't as expensive as I would have expected, with it being so centrally located downtown. Five stars - I'll be back again soon.
Nice & easy. I've been into Local several times since they opened. There were initial hiccups, but that's pretty normal for such a huge space.

Local is great for accommodating big groups. We went here for a flames playoff game and the energy was awesome. Food is really good for the price, and the location down town makes it easy to hop around to other locations as well.
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff are also really friendly. We had Sierra as our server, she was very kind and knowledgeable with both the food and drink menu. Although she had a mask on, you could see the cheerful and greeting smile in her eyes! Food and drinks are both really good, lots of gluten friendly options which is a huge must these days! Must try the crispy loaded potatoes and the nachos - out of this world, some great chefs. Will definitely go back :)
Came downtown to try somewhere different for lunch or brunch. Stopped here and am glad I did. Had the Brisket hash with two poached eggs. First off, when it arrived the smell was intoxicating. Beautiful aroma wafting off the plate. The flavours continued. Brisket was fantastic. Eggs perfectly poached. The Hash nicely done with caramelized onions, potatoesa nice size and done just right
I may have found my go-to hash.
Fabulous experience, great plethora of flavors in each dish, fresh off the stove and downed with chilled beer.. truly cherishable meal and a must visit next time to Calgary...
Welcome with a big smile and everything that followed still has me smiling! The cherry on cake was a menu for vegetarians as soon as the hostess got to know we were one! 😀 I love my Lime Margaritas and this place gets a 9/10. The lager on tap was so fresh and crisp. The presentation of the food, portions, ambience, music, service... there I have said it all! I would recommend Nachos, Enchiladas and donuts as dessert!
Malaysian curry didn't taste as good as it looked i had better than this. Last best west coast ipa and red sangria were good.

Came for appies. Great atmosphere. Had the nachos and fully loaded potatoes. Both delicious Nachos come with everything already on top. Pickled jalapenos a great touch. Loaded potatoes were unreal. 10/10 would recommend
