Review Hy's Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar - Calgary

Celebrated our Anniversary this year at Hy’s Steakhouse. The table side service was 🔥 LIT! The steaks were cooked to perfection! Our absolute favourite dishes of the night would have to be the Steak Neptune & Bananas Foster. Overall the experience & service was spectacular! We will definitely be back!

Came here for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The oysters were shucked clean and tasted fresh. We shared a porterhouse and a couple of side dishes and it was enough to make us full. Like most reviews, their cheese toast is a must. Our server, Tony, was very attentive albeit he missed my order of mushrooms. Overall the experience was great. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Will definitely come back. My husband says it's in his Top 3 restaurants.

Finally made it here after hearing about it for years and years. Definitely one of the top steak places I've been to. Had the steak (filet mignon) and lobster, steak was cooked to perfection. The cheese toast is a must! Service was spectacular, loved the interior of the place.

My wife and I dined here on Saturday night and our server Mike provided us with some of the best service we’ve experienced, he went out of his way to make sure my wife had something vegan to eat and was very knowledgeable on so many topics it was a true pleasure to dine here. The food was of course amazing props to the chefs. Definitely will be back again

We visited HY's for our Valentine's day dinner. Being a popular steak house in the heart of Calgary, it was a busy night. We can feel staffing is stretch a bit thin with the serving time, and attentiveness. Their Cheese toast for two is rich, aromatic, and flavorful. The Steak Neptune has consider amount of crabmeat, adding another level of flavor in every bite.

Such a great experience. We went for happy hour and the service was wonderful, and the food impeccable. We will be back!

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner here. The beef Wellington was awesome and service here was great too. Will come back.

Went with my wife today for her birthday and i gotta say this is by far the best steak i have ever had. Cooked to perfection, the cheese toast was to die for. The french onion soup was delicious. And the scallops were fantastic. Our server was very professional as well as friendly. Cant say anything but good things about this place. We will be back for sure!!

This is one of my go to spots if I have meetings or doctors appointments downtown for lunch. the stroganoff is amazing, the cheesecake fantastic, the onion soup mmmmmm. and then there is the cheese toast.

Had a great dinner with friends the other night, the pepper steak was amazing, the desserts well bam.

Went in with a group of 17 for a birthday and everything went well. Most of us ordered steaks and were happy. Desserts ( pistachio creme brulee and bananas foster) were a great end. The wine options were great and the wine we chose was amazing. Server and assistants did very well too. Although we went in the middle of the week, I'm sure the experience would still feel the same had it been on a weekend

This was the best steak dinner we’ve ever had. The meat was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. The accompaniments were delicious as well. Highly recommended!

Came here for my birthday. Food and service were amazing! We started with the tableside Caesar salad. Then we got the chateaubriand for 2. And ended it with the pistachio creme brule and the Apple crisp.

Our team at work decided to continue the annual tradition of going out to a nice restaurant for a group dinner over the holiday’s. Last year we didn’t meet the minimum spend at the fancy restaurant we went to, and I ended up having to purchase a $70 bottle of wine to make up the difference… I wasn’t going to let that happen to me again this year! I did some research and found that Hy’s offers a private room with no minimum spend and no room rental fee. This was a perfect arrangement for the eight of us. Some were singles, some were couples, and the server set us up with bills accordingly. An automatic gratuity was added, which was fair. Our server was very friendly, informative and thoughtful. He was great at preparing all the table side dishes that we ordered and made sure our evening was enjoyable. The drink menu was available through an iPad – I still don’t understand using this new-fangled technology in a classy restaurant…

I was planning my work's Holiday Party and had not only been in touch with the events coordinator Katie but also had come in to see the space. Even though the restaurant did not have their menus ready for the Holidays and i would have to estimate pricing for everything without much initiative from the events coordinator, I placed a reservation for 40. The next day I get a call from Katie telling me another reservation has reached out to her of 100 people and she asked if my group of 40 would pay a minimum of $8,000.00 since that is how much Hy's would profit from her 100 people reservation. I told her we wouldn't since it was at least 2-3 thousand more than it was initially agreed on. Anyhow, utterly offended and disappointed in the way they practice business.

Absolutely in love with everything about this place - food, service, everything. And if you're a steak lover, THIS place is not to be missed! Amazing steaks! And it's a really nice place for a dinner on a special occasion. Also, I prefer coming here for their happy hour specials... The service is way better than any other place around.

Throwback in time when all this city had was steak. The place is an absolute cave -- at least they ditched the red velvet panelling and shag carpet. It's fun to come for a drink but I have to say I'm a little reluctant to pay $11 for a tossed garden salad. The $120 chateaubriand is tempting but I know there's little chance of it ever meeting expectations. I'm always leery about steakhouses because I make the best steak at home. Steak is something I cook on hot coals and eat on the patio with a nice red. Every time I've paid $50 for a striploin at a supposedly upscale restaurant I feel ripped off.

Delicious steaks, a little pricy as compared to vintage. Different selections super tasty cheese bread, portions are fairly small for the price, but cooked very well
Hy's Steakhouse is tucked away at the Core Shopping Centre, so finding parking was not an issue. As for the food...the cheese toast is absolutely delicious!!! It's probably one of my favourite appetizers of all time!!! The steak portion was actually decent and tender. The service was top notch and had a fantastic time. Only negative was that the restaurant was a bit too dark. More lighting would help when navigating around the restaurant. I look forward to coming back here again soon!

I've been there twice now and will probably go again. Fantastic steaks - great selection and excellent recommendations by the waitstaff. They are very professional and friendly.
The lounge area is a great spot to chill. Large leather seats. The music is not too loud. The aire is perfect.

Oysters were soso. The escargot tasted great I love the presentation they have in their foods. It a perfect place for fine dinning. The steak I feel is a bit better at a few other places but over all a place I would come back once in a while.
Stew Burner
These guys know how to do steak, one of my favourite places to have a steak dinner doesnt matter what cut, very nicely appointed restaurant , the service we had the day we were there was excellent, there were four of us all had steaks all four of us had them done differently from rare to well done, all of them were perfect, which i must say is a first for me,usually its hard to differentiate from rare to medium, apps, were great, desserts looked good, defiantly many returns are in the future

On my recent dining at Hy's I must write this recommendation just because I was so impressed, first of all I find that the staff is professional, kind and accommodating , when it comes to the food, well it is the best steak house in Calgary with their special grill, I don't think anyone has that in the City . When you dine at Hy's you actually feel like you
been somewhere, great dining rooms (they have several) , beautiful people, I find that the clientele here is more sophisticated as opposed to the other dining establishments around Hy's . It's a great dining experience all in all.
Hitting The Sauce
My colleagues wanted to get together after work for the holiday season. I suggested Hy’s as I’ve been wanting to try their happy hour menu for months. What’s the big dealio? Bubbles are 40% off, select wines for $8.00 and some cocktails are 50% off. There’s also a tasty list of specially priced food, including one of the best steak sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. Also note that now until Christmas, you can drop off a Christmas toy for The Magic of Christmas, a charity that gives toys to children in need.

This place is now one of my favourite steakhouse restaurants. My boyfriend took me here for dinner on Valentine's Day and we left with a memorable experience. The ambiance inside is lovely. When you first come in, they ask if you want them to take your jacket before seating you. We were seated on the side of the restaurant in a secluded open room. There were 3 other tables inside with us but they were far apart enough that you didn't hear their conversations or vice versa. It was also fairly quiet even though the restaurant was busy. Nothing ruins a nice dinner than having to yell at the other person so they can hear you. Our server's service was top-notch. He was very friendly, ensured that we were well informed of the menu and kept his attention on us without being bothersome. Since it was my first time here and I didn't know where the washrooms were, I asked our server and he actually walked me to the ladies washroom, which I thought was really nice. Now for the food. For appetizer, we ordered their famous cheese toast. The cheese toast was so good!! The inside of the bread was soft and the outside was nice and crunchy. Yet, the cheese was perfectly melted and had so much flavour to it. We wanted to order more of it but we decided to wait and finish all our food first. For steak, I ordered the 8oz Filet Mignon and my boyfriend ordered the 16oz Bone-in Rib Steak. My Filet Mignon was succulent, tender and perfectly seasoned. The Bone-in Rib Steak was also very moist and tender. It had lots of flavour to it as well. We both got mashed potatoes as our sides, it was creamy and went really well with our steak. We also ordered a side of White Cheddar Macaroni, and their famous cheesecake for dessert. The macaroni was subpar but the cheesecake was delightful. I'm not huge cheesecake person because I find that it gets too much after a couple bites. However, the cheesecake here wasn't too heavy or overwhelming. It's the best cheesecake I've ever had. I also had a mojito to drink and that was great too. This place is expensive, our bill came to $200 including GST and tip. In my opinion, it was worth it. Overall, I loved everything about this place and I will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend this restaurant for steak lovers or if you want to take someone on a really nice date.
Hungry Rant
Celebrated anniversary with boyfriend here. We ordered escargot (love!) and calamari which tasted awesome, and we both ordered the beef wellington, the first few bites was delicous but I did find the sauce after awhile a bit overwhelming (Weird...but the sauce tasted like lamb to me). I heard the pistachio creme brulee is really delicous here but I thought it was ok. Lastly, the service was great, our server did great on a busy night :) We will be back again :)

Finally. Hy's is back in town. I love the way they've kept the traditional look of the old Hy's and brought if to the modern world.

Caesar salad at the table, cheese toast and perfectly grilled steak.

Many happy returns for me please.

Came here with the in laws tonight to celebrate Christmas. Our first time here, service and food was phenomenonal! We started with cheesebread to share, my husband had a Caesar salad to start which they prepared tableside. My father in law and I ordered the special- steak with prawns, mother in law got ordered the special- salmon with scallops and my husband got the 16 oz bone in rib eye with baked potato. The steak was mouthwatering and delicious from first bite until the very end. My steak was gigantic, I can't believe I finished the whole thing and pretty much licked the plate clean. Hahha we were so full that we didn't have room for dessert. The menu is pricey but it was totally worth it.

Came here last night for our Christmas dinner. It was an unbelievable experience. I'd never had tableside service before, and the service really treated us like royalty.

We all had a round of cheesy bread to start which was amazing. Everyone wanted seconds.

For mains, we had the chateaubriand - which was prepared at the table. The steak was exceptional and we had so much food on our plate we didn't really know where to start.

We also had the steak Diane, which was flambeed at the table, and looked incredible.

By all accounts, the filet mignon was also excellent, although it only came with a carb and no extras. Even the extra gravy should have cost $3. When our friends decided not to have it, the waiter seemed so disappointed that they'd be going without gravy that he gave them a complementary gravy boat.

We heard excellent things about the roast chicken and the lamb chops as well.

For dessert, we had a variety of dishes, including the Bananas Foster - flambeed bananas, prepared by the table - this one wasn't really my cup of tea to be honest; it was a little orangey. The chocolate bourbon cake was incredible.

The key lime tart was also delicious and tangy, and we heard that the creme brulee was also incredible.

Overall this was an incredible experience that we all enjoyed immensely. The huge bill at the end didn't feel unreasonable considering the fantastic meal we'd had, and we were happy with the 18% autograt.

I would 100% come back here again for special occasions, and look forward to it.

08/20/2016

I received a call from the restaurant manager today (ironically, at the same time my bestie and I were discussing the incident) about my review. She wanted to assure me that Hy's treat all diners with respect and would never judge anyone in any way. While I do not want to add anything else to my lunch incident, I appreciate that Hy's actually takes time to read customer reviews and take them into consideration. We were also invited to have lunch at the restaurant again where it was unexpected, but definitely appreciated. Thank you Hy's for standing behind your reputation for exceptional customer service.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

08/19/2016

Wasn't entirely impressed with my visit today. Food was still on par however my brother and I agreed that service was poor and lackluster. I felt that I was being judge by our server because I wasn't dressed in business attire. Has she not heard of casual Fridays? I am dressed down today, but I wasn't aware that Hy's ONLY catered to the business crowd. She looked like she didn't know how to smile or just didn't want to smile at us, perhaps. Now I feel like I shouldn't go to Hy's unless I'm dressed up...

Sad that how one employee can ruin two people's dining experience in less than an hour. I feel that service has gone down overall for the rest of the staff, too.

ETA: My brother thinks the reason of our poor service was because we didn't order alcohol. Either way, we will not be returning for a while.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was my first visit since their old location closed many years ago... I was deterred from visiting b/c I noticed that they are now a lot more upscale and the prices were quite high. However, after having lunch there today I have to say it was well worth it. My friend and I shared the cheese toast, she had the steak sandwich and I had the steak salad. You can tell the steak is really good quality, it was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the marinade was spot on (my husband just saw my picture and actually said that looks like it's really tasty! Lol). Anyways, we both immensely enjoyed our meals and wouldn't hesitate to come back. The service was really good and overall it was a great experience.

I’ve still got a few travel stories, and more importantly, travel recommendations to share with you – but, I’m going to put a pause on them to give you a few helpful tips to kick off your holiday season. Primarily, food and gifts. The main worries (and joys) of every holiday. Beginning of course, with food.

Hy's steakhouse is hit or miss. A restaurant that charges this much for a filet mignon should be perfect every time. The first time I came here, I ordered a filet mignon at medium rare. It was the best steak I've ever had. I brought my entire family back a month later, ordered the filet mignon in medium rare.. And I got medium... I was so disappointed... I paid $56 for a chewy steak. Service is always great, however, I am 26 years old and I feel that I get ignored for the guests that are 40+ years old. Pictures I am adding today are from the first time I went, when I had a decent experience.

Went there on a lunch date with Gour.mand the other day as he had talked up the duck confit salad. I hadn't been to Hy's for years and in Ottawa. It was a summer Friday so we made reservations but it didn't seem like it was entirely necessary. The place is dark but the ambiance is warm and relaxing. I loved the decor.

We started with cheese toast..it was gooey and delicious. We then had the duck confit salad and it definitely lived up to expectations. The duck was moist and perfects, the dressing was light and the pear added a nice contrast. I was pleasantly surprised at the large portion of duck. We finished our meal with pistachio creme brûlée, also a good decision.

The only thing I didn't like was the charge for water.

There’s nothing better than a juicy, high-quality, well-cooked steak. On a recent Friday night, the boyfriend and I made it a date night out, got dressed up and headed to Hy’s for dinner.
The former Holt Renfrew space has been completely changed with Hy’s. Dark wood paneling is mixed into a posh and comfortable dining space with tons of seating with a busy lounge section, a more casual “pub” area with the most massive TV you will ever see and formal dining areas as well. There’s even a patio area enclosed off of Stephen Avenue to enjoy the summertime heat.

The Hy’s menu reads like a classic steakhouse with all of the usual suspects: shrimp cocktails, surf and turf steak and lobster, cheesecake and more. On this night we decided to sample a few different options to get a taste of everything.
..

I went to Hy's for lunch with a girlfriend and it was exactly what I hoped for from a restaurant like that. The dining room is a beautiful space and the lounge has a cool relaxing vibe. Our server was very friendly and helped out a lot with suggestions on the menu. We both had steak and wow were they delicious!!! My filet was so tender, one of the best steaks I've ever had.

Overall we had a fantastic time and I will definitely be back with my husband to try out dinner!!

Hmmm, I've had one excellent meal and I've had one below average meal so I'm not sure what to think. How can you screw up with steak and stuffed double baked potato!!!!! THAT IS WHAT THEY DO, STEAK!!!! My friend asked for medium rare and her steak was blue and it was a bone-in rib eye not a filet. The stuff potatoes were hard as a rock because they were lukewarm borderline cold. After bringing this to there attention the waiter removed our plats and placed our steaks back on the grill slapped them back onto our plats with hot potatoes. REEEEEEEEALLY! It just seems very chintzy. Then they did not offer to comp any of our meal. I had to demand to talk to the manager explained how our meal went and then they adjusted our bill.
Scrumptiously Fit Food
#fullpost{display:inline;} Working downtown, you can’t help but roam the Core Shopping Centre from time to time. Everybody needs a break now and again. However late last year I couldn’t help but notice that there was some major construction on the main floor of the mall and wondered what new amazing shop was going to be opening. How surprised was I when I found out that Hy’s Steakhouse was returning to Calgary! I still remember their old location and how everybody went there and knew they’d be served a delicious steak. So needless to say, I definitely stopped by to grab a bite when they opened. Atmosphere: A nouveau modern interior with a dining area which opens up to the grill room, where you can witness the steaks being cooked in all its glory. The perfect combination of new and old school. Price Range: $20s - $40+ Food & Wine: One can find all the great classics served at Hy’s like tableside Caesar salad and Banana’s Foster, so we couldn’t wait to indulge. To start we opted out of the aforementioned Caesar due to my entrée selection and went with the Wedge Salad. I really enjoy the freshness of wedge salads and find that they’re not offered much on menus anymore. This version had a creamy thousand island dressing with hints of blue cheese, adding a bit of punch to the iceberg lettuce and bacon combination. It was a great refreshing way to start off the meal. I was excited for my main because I ordered the Steak Diane, which means tableside flambe of the steak. The beef tenderloin filet is cooked with Dijon and fresh mushrooms, lit up with brandy and then served with fresh green beans and potatoes. It smelled amazing when it was being prepared and I was excited to taste it. Since I like my steaks rare, I was surprised that the filet remained quite tender cooked to medium. The flavour of the steak wasn’t compromised but instead elevated with the mushroom brandy cream sauce. It was definitely a decadent dish. The hubby couldn’t pass up ordering something from the

Disappointed. We were excited to see that Hys was back in town. We ordered the filet mignon and ribs steak. To our disappointment the filet mignon came out very rare and cold inside and burnt ouside(ordered it med rare). The rib steak was thin looked like a t bone. Looked over at the cook he was too busy singing and looking at the hockey game. The server was excellent. They did however treat us to dessert for the trouble. To me it's another Keg which ironically is owned by the Hys group
YYCFoodie
Overpriced steaks and dishes overall. Dry and tough steaks when made at med rare. The only thing is service is good but nothing you couldn't experience better at The Keg.

Excellent Dining Experience. Our recent dining reservation at Hy's was the best experienced in a long time! Our server 'Jared' was most courteous, knowledgeable & very helpful with the meal choice recommendations. This certainly has proven to be one of the ultimate dining experiences in Calgary--keep up the professional style and ambience--and will be highly recommended to friends & family!

Oops...wrong place. Sorry...my review is for Goro and Gun not Hy's.

-----05 Mar, 2015-----

Love it. I discovered sushi here so maybe that is why I am so loyal. I eat here a couple of times a week and either order the tuna or salmon rolls or the lamb Ramen (sometimes both). It's alway great. Service is also great. Nothing bad to say about this spot.

Great all around. We are frequent diners to calgary's restaurants and Initially we were hesitant to try out the new place due to the mixed reviews and the high prices, but my daughter just received a new promotion and she picked it as our dinner destination to celebrate. There were 7 of us on Sunday night and we could not have had a better dining experience. The food albeit on the pricier side was delicious and properly portioned. The staff could not have been more welcoming. When we arrived the hostess was on the phone but a gentleman in a suit who I'd assume was the manager greeted us immediately with a big smile and coat checked all of our jackets and escorted us to our table. Our waiter (His name is Nos) was extremely friendly and personable. He attended to all of our needs right away and made us feel as if we were special guests. Also they make your desserts at the table which was a cool experience. I highly recommend people go there and try it for themselves. The service and atmosphere alone are worth it.
Jazminj
Extremely over priced, filet mignon was extremely fatty. And the plate consisted of a slab of meat and piping bag potatoes. Oh and some parsley. No greens.

Hy's CalgaryGreeted. Greeted by a friendly hostess. Urbanspoon reservation was in their system and table was ready. Service was excellent and the food was as good as I remembered it from old Hy's. classic high end dining. I'll be back.

Comment. I love Hys, the steak was cooked as I ordered (medium rare) but I had requested the lounge and it felt like A dining room. there are many places to go for lunch in the city, but I usually come or Hys because the lounge the best in the city.

Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio - with baby arugula salad and shaved grana padano The beef was amazing and just melts in the mouth. The cheese added a light sharpness that complemented the dish. The arugula was so fresh and it was nice to have some veggies. Also, there was a slight crunchiness from the rock salt that added texture and flavour. This is one of Ryan's favourite appetizers to get, so if you ever eat with him get carpaccio! Dungeness Crab Cake - with dill mayonnaise, housemade coleslaw There was an abundance of crab which made it so delicious! The sauce provided great flavour without overpowering the crab. The coleslaw was a nice addition, but perhaps there was a bit too much dressing. I wish there had been more crabcakes :(. Baked Sea Bass - with white beans and tomato concasse, ancho-chili aioli The fish was cooked perfectly and flavoured well with the slightest crisp exterior. There was a lot of aioli as you can see, but luckily it was easy to scrape off and dip accordingly. Nevertheless, John did really enjoy the sauce as it complemented the fish very well. The white bean concasse was a great pairing and did not overpower the star of the dish. The cherry tomatoes added an aesthetic flare and it also provided a good burst of flavour (literally). Roast Rack of Lamb- dijon rosemary crust The lamb was cooked to a true rare, which was exactly what John wanted! 10 points to Gryffindor! Great flavour and very tender. John wished he was at home so he could polish off the bones; it was just so delicious. The potatoes and vegetables were also very good. Overall, the dish was quite impressive and John enjoyed every component of it, vegetables and all! Steak Neptune- New York strip topped with fr

Food takes forever!!!!. From time of ordering, waited 1 hour for a few steaks to come out. Took forever. The food being ok middle of the road, combined with a crazy wait time I won't be back unless I have to.

Went there with a large group the week it opened (not the date of this review). Food was excellent. The service wasn't what I would expect and they were out of the first two ports we ordered after we ate but I'll chalk those up to the wrinkles of the first week. Will definitely return to see if the service has improved. The private room was a great space for about 16-20 people.

We entered through the mall entrance and were greeted by an uninviting hostess with an unwelcoming look on her face. I've had better interactions with staff at McDonald's. After the unpleasantries, we were finally able to convince her that we were there to eat and not just stand around pretending like she didn't want us to turn around and leave. Once seated, we were impressed with the service from the wait staff. They were friendly and attentive. We all ordered the steak, but with different sides. The food and post-hostess service were a 10/10. Hy's was my favourite steakhouse before it shut down and I'm happy to say I'll be back to see if they are able provide us with another amazing food experience. I'm hoping the next time we're there the same hostess either isn't or treats us like we're about to eat at an expensive high-end restaurant.
Foodstoryteller
Sadly underwhelming. The Hy's of the past has not returned! The service was well below standard but even worse was the quality of the steaks and lack of flavour in all of the dishes. I'd stick with Vintage or Modern Steak if I'm going to spend that type of money. I'll wait 3-6 month and return again to see if they have improved but a sad first effort.
Jackson
Pleasantly Surprised. As it was my first visit to the new and improved Hy's now on 8th here is a quick rundown. Atmosphere was fantastic, steak was cooked perfectly, our server (Kelli) was around the perfect amount of time. Very good ambiance and make sure you try the cheese toast- outstanding.
Foodie123
Pricey but good. Cheese toast and Caesar salad were amazing. Steaks were cooked to order and full of flavour. Service was attentive and top notch, very nice that all servers are trained in table side service unlike their competitors.. Given the price, we will be back but probably not until the next birthday celebration or anniversary.
If you are expecting upscale and fine dining, you may be disappointed; it is very odd that bar and dining room are in 1 shared space and tonight the place was full of people in both lounge and dining room who were obviously going to the Flames game. I did not expect to see people in jerseys and hoodies in Hy's.
Ddrysadle
Overpriced, Underdelivered. The original Hy's was my favorite restaurant and the new version falls well short. The interior is nice but lacks the quiet elegance of the old Hy's. The prices are very high at $60 for a 16oz Rib Eye. I ordered a 14oz Rib Eye that was the daily special for $48. It was a very average cut the had as much fat and gristle as meet. The food was tasty but only worthy of a mid range price. Throughout the experience I dealt with a disinterested waiter that definitely fell short of the standard. I dined at Wellington's the previous week and there's no comparison. It's to bad that the new Hy's doesn't measure up.

Incredible.. Best restaurant experience I've had in Calgary in a very long time, if not ever. From the food, to the drinks to the decor and the staff, can't praise Hy's highly enough - this place is on point on every point. Best Manhattan in the city, and the steak was perfect. Went in over lunch and the price points were impressively low for the quality of the phenomenal experience. If you haven't been yet, go. I don't know how you could possibly leave disappointed. Favorite new restaurant in YYC!

Great Service poor food. We were celebrating Valentines day early due to the availability of babysitter. The service was great...the cheese toast was absolutely heavenly. However....this is a steakhouse who doesn't cook steak well....sigh...
I ordered a Steak Diane and my hubby ordered a wellington. Ended up sending both back with mine being too salty with the sauce and hubby is probably close to well done. I told my server if the same sauce was being used....I'd rather order something else....which the something else turns out to be perfect. However....my unlucky hubby got an 'almost blue' beef wellington which we asked them to forget about cooking another one. We ended up sharing my perfect second go around steak. However...throughout the dinner experience.. The service was good. However.... They really need to train the kitchen for a better quality control.p

Dined at Hys on Jan 17, 2015. Excellent food and great service. Happy we came here! Porterhouse was perfect and the entire team was fun, pleasant and helpful!

Very good place to have steak in Calgary.

Not overly impressed. We were excited to hear Hy's was back in Calgary. We planned a family dinner, they have transformed the space beautifully - the classic steakhouse decor. The service was very good, had appetizer and dessert made in front us by the server, this brought us back to the original Hy's. Albeit the steaks were very good, the plate presentation could use some work. When you receive a filet and baked potatoe and nothing else on the plate, it is very minimalistic. I realize that vegetables could be ordered separately, but I feel for the price of the meal, a few colour veggies could be added. Not sure if we will return.

My dad took the family to Hy's so we could experience what a traditional high end steakhouse was like.
In general, everything was pretty average. However I felt the ambience was lacking and felt very cramped for a place charging $45-60 a plate.
I had the chateaubriand which was quite nice, however not overly exceptional for the $50/plate price. We had over priced wine and desserts and left feeling very full and satisfied, but with empty wallets.
The service was very good and everyone was very polite, especially the gentleman greeting us at the door.
I'm glad I got to experience Hy's, but there are other less expensive steakhouses I'd prefer to go to for easily the same quality of food.

Hy’s has made a triumphant return. The restaurant originally opened in Calgary in the 1950s only to shutter that space nearly eight years ago—but, lucky for us, it’s back. Located in The Core, the new iteration of Hy’s Steakhouse is a classy addition to the downtown restaurant scene. We love the old-school vibe of the space, right down to the dark wood and tableside cart service. Don’t skip a classic Caesar salad—a recipe we seriously need to get our hands on. For a real treat, be sure to splurge on Steak Diane or Chateaubriand for two; both dishes are prepared tableside, right before your eyes. Welcome back, Hy’s.

Finally, the steak spot has returned, looking bigger and better than ever on the corner of Stephen Avenue and 3rd Street S.W.
