Review Dairy Lane Cafe - Calgary

Excellent food, the wait-list process was easy (and we got seated way earlier than predicted!) and a very understanding location. Options for vegans/vegetarians, dog friendly heated patio and very reasonably priced. Would brunch again!!

Love this spot, especially the patio. Very cozy spot, in a great neighbourhood and has some nice views as you enjoy your meal. As for the meal itself you get plentiful, good variety of combinations for each plate and the plates are very delicious. I loved the potato hash, chicken sausage and bacon. Eggs were well done and scrambled how I like but my fav part would be the sourdough bread. Such a great bread with some butter that tied everything together.

Went for a brunch on Saturday, so many good vegetarian options. We got burrito, tostidas, omelette, coffee and mimosas. Tasted alright, nothing phenomenal. Huge portion size, exceptional service, lively vibes. Small place so might have long waiting hours on weekend (make sure to reserve your spot online). Outside seating on a sunny day would be nice. We were 3 people and got seated on a corner table, felt it would be too conjusted so we requested for the table outside. It was bit chilly but they have heaters which did help a little. Before bringing in our order, our server asked if we wanted to sit inside as a larger table was available then which we happily took but sitting outside should be nice on a sunny day.

I felt like this place is a tad overrated. The food was mediocre to me or maybe it’s because of the dish that I ordered. But I had the hillhurst cheese steak benny, the steak meat was dry and tasteless, while the rest of the items weren’t very flavourful either. The potatoes that came with the dish was okay, but nothing special either and I definitely had to eat it with the ketchup because it was barely seasoned at all. My partner ordered the omelette and he liked his dish well enough. The French toast was decent, nothing special though. Overall an enjoyable experience based on the atmosphere and vibe, but that’s probably because we were on the patio and it was nice and sunny out. It was around a 30 minute wait for food that did not feel worth it to me, I probably won’t come back again.

Want in and had these amazing sandwiches. Rather on a whim we went and it is so cute! Very small so get in while you can. The one serveruse was lovely nice young lady! The coffee is cheap and it's all you need in a good breakfast spot. Prices are a bit steep, but quality is worth it.

My friend and I came to The Dairy Lane Cafe for breakfast a few weeks ago and it was a very pleasant experience. The cafe is quite cozy/small but there is still plenty of space and the outdoor tables are very nice. The service was very good, friendly staff and food arrived in a timely manner. I had the eggs benedict which was a good portion size and very flavourful. I would definitely recommend trying the dairy lane cafe

My new favorite breakfast place! Everyone is so friendly and authentic. Their decor is quaint family deli. They have plexiglass dividers to ensure the safety of their clients and faithfully ask for a proof of vacation or rapid test at the door. Now for the best part. Almost everything on the menu can be gluten free and dairy free (I am Celiac and dairy intolerant)! That is such a luxury for me. The cherry on top is that their food is absolutely delicious. I ordered the breakfast tostadas and my hubby ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches (I have posted a fee pictures). They have a fun drink section as well. Their prices are acceptable for the quality service and food. I can't rave enough about how fun our experience was. You'll just have to check it out for your self. Enjoy!

🤢☹️The hostess was rudely implying that first come, first served shouldn't apply if you come without a reservation ☹️Took at least ten minutes to get water on the table on a hot Sunday. ☹️The “bottomless coffee” was very watered down 🤢Food subpar and lackluster in flavor. 🫥3 stars for good potatoes and for being dog friendly

Although it's a small menue that doesn't change so much, you get to enjoy what you love about it over and over and still keep loving it. Great place, great staff.

Currently the top-rated breakfast joint in town, according to Zomato (OEB is a large chain, not a joint). It did not disappoint. A bit cramped but the restaurant still has a nice ambiance. The focus on local, fresh, farm-to-table ingredients, and classic but well executed recipes, is apparent. I’d go back for the coffee alone. Be sure to try the homemade jam, which you can buy by the jar. Eat here. Enjoy!

Absolutely love their seasonal offerings. Price is a bit on the high side but you get quality, locally sourced ingredients, and unique combinations and dishes you can’t find anywhere else. Vegan berry crumble dessert was fantastic.

Went here with a group for my friend's birthday. I got the dairy lane burger and it came out over-cooked and barely warm, and my fries were soggy. Everyone else seemed happy with their food, even though it took a very long time to come out. Before I got there, my friend's younger brother ordered iced tea without realizing it was the authentic kind (he's a kid, he thought it would be like the Nescafé stuff). Anyway, my friend asked if she could get something else for him instead, but was told she would be charged for the iced tea (which was $4). I thought that was a bit strange. They also charged me $4 for a mini bottle of coke. I probably won't go back, there are plenty of places in the city with better, cheaper food and better customer service. I also don't like being crammed in a tiny restaurant like a sardine.

I had heard a lot of great things about dairy lane, so we decided to head down there for dinner tonight. It took quite a while for a server to ask us for our drinks order, my little brother asked for an iced tea, which turned out to be actual iced tea, and not the sugary stuff that we all know and love. My brother asked the server if he could switch it, to which she replied “yeah that’s fine but I’m going to have to charge you for this one”. Why not just switch it out without charging for the untouched drink? Most restaurants wouldn’t charge for that but ok. We ordered the nachos to start and they were AMAZING. They don’t have a huge assortment of ingredients, but the peppers, and beans that they add on, with the drizzle of cheese was seriously good. I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich which was wonderful, the chicken was light and seasoned really well. My brother got the fried chicken which was seriously juicy and light, it was amazing. My best friend got the cheeseburger, prob the least tastiest, it was dry and not really that good. Service was ok, the place is very small so there’s not much room, only a few tables. Wait time was really long, we waited quite a bit until our food arrived.

Went with my family on a Saturday for lunch. There was a 20 minute wait when we arrived but we were able to sit outside and we were offered coffee while we waited. The got us in faster than I thought it would take. The Calimexi fries are a must try!! I loved the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The ingredients were very fresh and the chicken was fried perfect! I usually don’t like breaded chicken but I really enjoyed this sandwich! Definitely will be returning there again with my family.

My husband and I came here for a late lunch, got in relatively quickly. Staff was nice and offered us a beverage while we waited. We were both satisfied with our order selections. I had some food restrictions and the waitress was understanding and accommodated my needs. Also the amount of food was generous (avacado toast🥑👍). Can't wait to return.

Wow! What a great vibe! The employees greeted us with the most beautiful, genuine smiles. It's small and cozy, so either go early or prepare to wait (we went at 815 am on Saturday morning, were the second ones seated, and in 15 minutes the place was full). We got the hillhurst breakfast sandwhich and the breakfast burrito with brisket with fruit on the side and a slice of cherry pie to share. The food was excellent and the portion size was perfect. The brisket was perfectly cooked but a little boring in terms of seasoning. We will definitely be back though, looking forward to trying a more traditional breakfast meat next time :p
I've been here several times, always wanting to return. The coffee is great, the servers are lovely and the atmosphere is cute and cozy.
The savoury stuffed french toast is my favourite, but I'd happily eat anything on the menu!

Exceptional food, seems to always be fresh ingredients. Been here a few times, the service has been off and on but the food definitely makes up for it!

I can't express how much I like Dairy Lane - from the retro diner decor to the super friendly staff to the incredible food (which uses ingredients from local producers), there's definitely a lot to love! Everything I've tried has been excellent - the Dairy Lane Burger ($14.5) and the Bowview Bowl ($15) are both highly recommended. Definitely give it a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Wonderful attentive service. Cool small little place. Great craft beers. Fantastic hummus. Very fresh vegetables, good burgers made from fresh beef seasoned to perfection. Great place for family's and friends. Will return soon!

Super cute place that you can tell is supported by a loyal community that keep coming back. The food is pretty good, reminiscent of a diner but made with love that is apparent from the friends running the place. They give you the feel that they are all sisters.

Seating isn't huge here, but a few tables and a lively atmosphere make it great place to pop by for a coffee or a meal!

Would definitely come back if in the area.

My comments relate to breakfast.

I'd give a quality of ingredients high marks.

Low marks for space and noise. I noticed several people asking the servers to repeat themselves a few times, including me, which because he couldn't hear, he got our order wrong. The place is too small for so many tables and the music to be played so loud.

I give really low marks for innovation and taste. Simple menu, old school bacon & eggs with toast & hashbrowns, the regular ol' stuff. Breakfast is becoming a hot commodity. I try a new breakfast place most weeks, I watch for what the other places are doing such as OEB, Diner Deluxe, The Beltliner, Monki, Ricky's All Day grill, Ace, Jameson's Pub even.

I took a couple of bites and took my breakfast home to flavour it up with some extra cheese, herbs.

They got hollandaise sauce right, I'll give them that - which many places do not. Coffee was good.

Will not return - Waited in line for table on a busy January Saturday morning. I was at the front of the queue and the smallest table in the place was just vacating. Rather then give me and my colleague the table the waitress walked right past me at the head of the line and gave the table to a pair who had just come in the door. The waitress then asked me to come outside and said if I want a table it will be outside (did I mention it was January) and you will have to wait. I said no, you have just completely lost a customer and I will never come back. Absolutely rude and terrible behaviour.

This would have gotten a 4.5 star rating but...
First time I ate here with my husband, both food and service were great which made for a memorable meal... enough to travel from Edmonton to Calgary again just to eat there. The food is homey and comforting for a good price. My husband and I recently returned in the middle of the afternoon and was told there would be a 45 minute wait. At first, the staff seemed to be welcoming and friendly when we walked in. We declined to be put on the list but later changed our mind so my husband called up and explained we were just in there and changed our minds and we now wanted to be added to the waiting list. When we came back to be seated the same server who greeted us the first time was rather rude and waved us to a table without barely acknowledging we were there.
The rest of the service staff was rather rude and had a lot of attitude; they acted like the customer had no choice but to deal with it if you want to eat there because it's such a popular spot. In terms of the food, my dish was good... grilled cheese with bison chili and sweet potatoes fries. The sweet potatoes fries were enough to come back from the first time and even travel from Edmonton and the best I've ever had; crispy on the outside and soft inside with a hint of cinnamon in the coating. My husband had the same burger as he had the first time and it definitely wasn't as good as the first time; the patty was borderline burnt but, in fear of not wanting more service with attitude, we chose not to send it back.
Overall, I definitely wouldn't drive from Edmonton anymore to eat here again for the fact that the service was lacking and very unwelcoming, which for me ruins the experience no matter how good the food is. There is never any excuse for bad service in the restaurant biz although there's certainly enough of it. I think my husband and I have to find another Calgary go-to restaurant. If you read this and have any suggestions, please feel free to message me with your recommendations.

Good food, efficient and friendly service, but the menu itself is pretty average. There wasn't any special dishes that jumped out at me as a must try. The smoked salmon benny I had was tasty but I wish a vegetable side was available as a substitute for the hash.I may have to try their burger though!
LS902
Food tasted average. The service was not too great as despite having few customers, everything seemed to happen in slow motion. It took us quite a while to receive our food.

Ok so I haven't been here for brekkie but I did come here last week for one of their 'famous' burgers. I've gotta say that the food here isn't great. I ordered the way too garlicky bruschetta for an appy and the cheese burger for a main dish. The burger was a HUGE disappointment. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. The patty was quite flavourless actually.
As far as the prices go, I found it to be very expensive! Especially the wine 🍷...as in $14-$17 for a 9oz glass 😳
The decor here is super cute retro cafe style from the 60's. Very tiny restaurant though. Nice ambiance, friendly staff, very hip. Too bad the prices are so high and the food didn't live up to it hype.

Dairy Lane Cafe is one of the well-known and most-frequented brunch spots in Calgary, along the likes of OEB Breakfast and Monki. There are a lot of tables inside and on the patio (during summer), but more often than not, there’s a wait when you come for breakfast or brunch. It's not the cheapest spot to eat at, but it also won't break the bank. I ordered the vegan tofu scramble which was good, but left much to be desired (it was a small portion for $17). The servers are friendly & very welcoming, and they also filled up our coffee and water whenever it was empty!

Went here today with my boyfriend and it's a cute and pleasant place to stop! It was busy at 2:30 on a Sunday but we did get a table right away. It's a little cramped in there but manageable.
I ordered the Dairy Lane veggie burger and it was delicious. The patty is thick and hearty and tastes home made. Fresh lettuce and thick tomatoe slice! Great bun that was very soft and fresh. The fries were a little dry but I didn't really have a lot of room for them after I finished the burger.
My boyfriend ordered the Canadian omelet and loved it. Very thick and packed with ingredients. Great home style hash browns. Very great comfort food.
I would definitely come back as they have a lot of vegetarian options.
16 dollars for each entrée but well worth it.
I have tried coming here for breakfast a couple of times after reading some great reviews online but was never able to get in cause was always packed. I am glad to say I finally made it in today & am so glad I did. I tried the garlic fried mushrooms & spinach benny with hash browns when the dish cam out it was a beautifully presentation. The benny was beautiful almost felt bad eating it but it was great the fried mushrooms & garlic, spinach, egg & the brown butter hollandaise sauce all worked together perfectly nothing over powering the other ingredients. The hash browns were amazing not sure how they make them & what herb they use with them but they are one of the best hash browns I have had in a while. I highly recommend.

This place is very small and always busy, but the food is always great and I love the little patio in the summer. I love all day breakfast and diners and this is one of the really good ones

This is an awesome place to get breakfast on the weekend (although it is definitely expensive). Since the restaurant is very small you may have to wait a bit for a spot, but they provide you with some coffee to drink while you wait. On a nice day you can stand outside, or there are some chairs in the back to wait in.

The vegan scramble is really, really good. It comes in a very generous portion, with toast and hash browns. You will not be leaving hungry. Everything else that we've had has been good. The potatoes are very nicely done, but need a bit of extra salt added to them.

It's worth coming here for the good quality local food and the unique atmosphere, but it is definitely expensive as far as breakfasts go. I lived a hop and a step away from here for a while and rarely came here because it was so pricey, but always enjoyed it when I did.

It was alright.
I remember liking the bennies, and wishing the potatoes were a little less bland.
The savory stuffed french today was pretty good.

Went for lunch at 1:00pm on a weekday and got a table in 15 minutes. It's quite a busy place and they don't take reservations. Had the stacked chilli grilled cheese and my wife had the back bacon grilled cheese. The sandwiches were really good and the fry's that they came with were amazing. Service was also decent but it doesn't seem like there is a time you can go to this place without waiting. I imagine breakfast would take a while because it's quite small with limited tables.

I was real excited to try Dairy Lane as I had heard about it in the summer time but hadn't had the chance to try it until now. My initial impression walking in was "cute café, but SO cramped". And I've been to other local restaurants, but this is the most cramped I've experienced. On the bright side, there's a ton of free residential parking to take advantage of and it's in a very convenient location just off Kensington.

Next was the service. Was welcomed right away and given the choice to sit wherever. I'd been to Dairy Lane once before and the wait time to be seated was half an hour so we decided not to stay that day. This time we came early to ensure prompt seating and service. It's quite busy so if you're wanting to try it for breakfast, come before 930-10 am to avoid that wait time. As far as service, we were given 2 waters right away, offered any other beverage (for a price, that is) and menus were already at the table. Our server was great, but didn't smile nor introduce herself the entire time. Kind of like she didn't want to be there..? But great service nonetheless - she took our orders right when we were ready, gave us waters, asked us how our meals tasted, took our plates, gave us our bill, and wished us a great rest of our day. Just no smile or introduction - and that's okay.

Next is the food. I've been really craving eggs benedict lately and have been on the hunt for the best hollandaise sauce, so I tried their spinach and mushroom eggs benedict (soft poached eggs). I thought the food was decent. Not amazing, but good. The eggs were definitely not soft. I was looking for more of a runny yolk kind of effect. The hollandaise was creamy but could have had more flavour, and there wasn't much of it. Overall, it was about average to me.

Finally, price. The price didn't bother me as much as other people. I think it's pretty standard that eggs benedict be $15 but that's just me. And when i skimmed over the menu, I'd say it's reasonable.

Overall, it wasn't bad. I'd give it another chance in the future. I think I just hyped it up too much for myself. 3.5 out of 5 stars!
Kevin
Very pricey! $10 for two eggs! Nice diner atmosphere but really, look at the prices here. Coffee please.... That's all I can afford here!! Food is ok.

I was pretty excited to finally try Dairy Lane. It's in a location with small shops and plenty of free residential parking. A patio with 5 small tables outside with complimentary blankets and a coffee condiment station outside as you wait.

The first thing I noticed were the prices on the menu. They were quite expensive compared to your usual breakfast and brunch restaurants. Easy range of $15-18 per entree. I had the feature Benny which came on tomato and salami. My friend had the spinach and mushroom. We shared and both agreed it wasn't that impressive. My hash browns had a piece of hair stuck to it but I don't eat much potatoes anyway so left it alone. Service was good. Our waitress was attentive but no smile.

Unfortunately, we agreed we won't come back again.

I think I’ve finally figured out how to enjoy brunch. Over order. Simple but genius right? Well, it was a Sunday so being in Calgary, we obviously had to go for brunch. I still can’t get over how much Calgarians adore brunch – it reminds me of Montreal so much. We decided to check out Dairy Lane Café, which apparently has been in the Hillhurst area since 1950! Wow, 65 years and going strong.
Estee
Much better than it's sister Blue Star. Service was attentive and speedy despite during lunch time. Not in the most convenient location but I would still come back again.

Stopped in for brunch this past weekend after not visiting for awhile. Had the breakfast burrito with broëk pork sausage. The first bite was hot and delicious. I had forgotten how big the portions were, barely finished and enjoyed every bite. Looking forward to the next visit.

The food was exceptional, but it was also an hour late. I appreciate small local businesses, but I also don't want to spend my evening waiting for my food.

If it was takeout, it would be 5 stars, but between the wait and my snobbish fellow patrons, I felt very uncomfortable eating here. Then again, maybe that says something about me...

Tess and her Mum go to Dairy Lane before a Concert

My mum loved her burger, mine was just okay. It claimed to be a stuffed burger but it was really just a double burger with toppings, so a little bit of false advertising. My lemonade was delicious though!

We also ordered a piece of pie and it was the saddest, smalls glop of pie I've ever seen, but it was delicious.

The service was insanely slow considering there were 3 tables in this super small space, but our server was super nice.

I will give this place another chance sometime even though it didn't wow me the first time.
M
Dairy lane used to be one of my favourite places for brunch, but it's not in my top 3 anymore. The place feels so cramped and gets really loud. They used to serve free coffee to customers who were waiting, but they haven't done that the last couple of times I was there. There's a small waiting area in the back.

I think they need to keep up with other breakfast places and experiment with their menu a little bit. After years of going there, the menu gets a little old.

Quality of the food is still great though. I just don't enjoy actually sitting there because it's hard to talk over brunch due to the noise level and being so cramped.
Ryan Kelly
The best diner in the HIllhurst area. My running partner and I used to meet here for a morning tea. But over the years I've really enjoyed the weekend brunches.

Dairy Lane is a gem! I came here on the Saturday morning before fathers day. We were the first in a decently long lineup before they opened. First off the service is absolutely wonderful. You can tell that the people that work there enjoy it. The food is even better than the service. I am not much of an omelette guy but the mexicali omelette was screaming my name...and it was delicious! My brother had the stuffed french toast, my dad ordered the smoked sausage hash and my wife ate the bacon and tomato benny. I tried every dish we ordered and they were all 10/10. Can't wait to go back!
Ashlee
Our server was so pleasant and made us feel really welcome and excited to be there. The place was busy but the staff are amazing at their jobs. The food was delicious and the next time I'm in town I have to go back. Seriously people..try the French toast with berry compote!!!!!!!
Ktrnad
Had the stuffed French toast w/ bacon and sausage hash and it was okay. I would recommend going to blue star diner for their version of these entrees.

I love these burgers! So flavourful and satisfying. The Parm fries are delicious. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly, I called in an order to pick up since I was in the area and when I got there I noticed they had a sign saying the kitchen would be closed between 4-4:30 to get ready for dinner service, well it happened to be 4:10 when I picked up the order and it was never mentioned to me that they would be closed during that time. Fabulous customer service in that regard, and I was so thankful they let me have my burger! I will be back!

Best Patio for Breakfast. I love Dairy Lane Year round, but my favourite time to eat there is on a sunny, weekday morning - when it's warm enough to sit on the patio, but not so hot that I am sweaty and/or developing a sunburn! Even the sometimes long line-ups for a table are worth it - they provide water and coffee (if you desire) and hydration for the pets too (I don't have one, but I frequently see the waiting dogs provided with water bowls).

I almost always get the Eggs Benedict when I come here because the Hollandaise is fantastic, but on my last trip decided to order the Croque Madame as it was part of their Mealshare program (and also because it had mornay sauce AND pulled pork). This was delicious (I wish it was a permanent fixture). The pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the mornay sauce was just the right touch of richness, and my sunnyside up eggs were perfect! I punctured the lovely yolks before remembering to take a picture. The hashbrowns were a nice side, and not too big. And because this was a later brunch, I also got a vanilla milkshake, which was amazing - I really love that they give you the whole carafe it comes in so you can top up your milkshake by yourself!

Overall: always, always worth the wait. The service is fantastic, and the food is excellent.

Best Vegetarian Burgers In Calgary. I have actually never had a better vegetarian burger. All of the toppings looked really fresh too, which you don't always see with burgers. The side of fries was a really good portion too. The servers were really friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

Heard a lot of good things about this place, so I went there with friends for early dinner. The place is super tiny, probably can't seat more than 15 people indoor. We waited for approximately 20 mins for a table and that was consider fast. Their menu shows a strong emphasis on using local ingredients. Having said that, I didn't see that translate into great taste that would persuade me to come back. Kevin Tok

This place has an outstanding reputation so I will squared place blame on Chef for a burnt chicken club with an over ripe mushy tomatoe. The chicken was burnt black and tasted like charcoal. Why would you plate that Chef??? Smarten up.

Independent, local ingredients, unique charm, a gem. Dairy lane is small (it probably seats around 20 people) but that adds to the charm of this place. We went at 8.30am on a weekday and we got a table no problem.
All the ingredients are sourced locally and they are proud to tell you where they get them from.
It's a unique little building with some atmosphere for sure.
The staff are super friendly and you can see the chefs at work.
We had breakfast and it was superb with wonderful flavours. The food is on the pricey end, but I don't blame them because ispace is at a premium and the food is local and high quality.

Always delicious and fresh! Big fan of the different jams offered with the toast! And they have the best hot ever!!

$$$$$ Burger. I have to admit, that although the burger in that place was good, it did not warrant the $20 pricetag!! Huge price to pay for bacon and cheese!

Burger and fries $12.50
Bacon $2.50
Cheese $2.50
GST $0.90
__________________
Subtotal $18.40
Tip $ 1.60 (I just handed her a $20 bill as I only had $20 bills)
__________________
Total $20.00

I went here on a Thursday morning and got some fresh hot coffee while I waited about 10 minutes for a table to free up. They serve Fratello coffee so it's good stuff. I had the Croque Madame with pulled pork and it was so delicious. It was one of the biggest breakfasts I'd ever eaten and I'm a girl who loves a big savory breakfast but this was tough to finish. I think I left a few hashbrowns on the plate because I was stuffed. Probably the best hashbrowns I've had in a restaurant too. Perfectly cooked potatoes and seasoned just right. I'll definitely eat at Dairy Lane again, but after a long fast. So

Celiacs Beware. I had heard about Dairy Lane's gluten free options and read their menu before I went, so I was very excited to possibly get some gluten free toast or other bread products, because that is a rare treat for people with celiac disease. Before ordering my meal (two eggs, toast and hashbrowns) I told the waitress that I had celiac disease. She said "okay so you want the gluten free toast" and she went to walk away. Thankfully, before she slipped away, I asked if they toast the bread in a separate toaster, just to be sure, and I then learned the sad truth: THEY DON'T HAVE SEPARATE TOASTERS. It's very important for celiacs to avoid cross-contamination and if I had been served that toast, I would have been VERY sick. Having a combined toaster completely ruins the point of even carrying gluten free bread at all, but I suppose I have the gluten free "trend" to blame for that. Something covered on the outside with gluten-filled crumbs should NOT be called gluten FREE. This lack of worry for cross contamination should absolutely be stated on the menu, because some celiacs are going to take this gluten free claim at face value, and not ask the extra questions that I did, because they don't want to make a fuss over their disease! Staff, especially those in restaurants that advertise gluten free options, should know that Celiac disease is similar to an allergy in that minute amounts of gluten can cause a lot of damage in the body, and can even make some people sick for weeks afterwards. On the one positive note, the waitress did assure me that the hashbrowns were cooked in a dedicated gluten free fryer, though only after I sat with my plate in front of me for about ten minutes not eating before I got a chance to ask her - I had noticed they seemed deep fried not pan fried when they came out. Overall, given the mediocrity of the food, the busy atmosphere of the restaurant, and the small cramped kitchen, I will probably not be back due to concerns about other types of cross-contamination. Very disappointing.

Never a disappointment, been here many times. Just be prepared for a wait(it's worth it)

The food (especially the burgers) are super delicious, even their side salads are fresh and appetizing. The service is great, the servers create a relaxing environment that makes the experience even better.

Delicious Dairy Lane. Dairy lane offers a quaint experience with nice waiting staff and tasty food. I went with one gluten free and one allergy prone friend, and both were able to dine to their delight. I had the hamburger and salad and it was a great dinner. I will definitely be back.

AMAZING breakfast spot. Went here for breakfast for the first time and absolutely loved it! I had the "All in Omelette" and it was perfectly cooked. Great portion size and all the ingredients were delicious. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great breakfast place! YUMMY!!!!

My boyfriend and I eat at Dairy Lane pretty frequently. There has been a lot of staff changes recently (both in the kitchen and waiters) and I'm sad to say that our last 2 visits here were a huge let down. My boyfriend and I went for dinner last weekend and neither of our meals even looked appetizing. My DL veggie burger was sloppily put together, fries weren't crispy, lettuce was wilted.. Not at all the quality we've come to expect from DL. We both left feeling disappointed. I chalked it up to an "off" day in the kitchen, but I tried going back on a weekday a few days later and it was the same thing. The flavors are not consistent or up to the usual standard. The food has gone from a 10 to a 4 in a very short amount of time, and it needs to be at a 10 to justify the prices (which are high for diner food). I'm not sure I even want to to go back.
Pease Dairy Lane, get it together!

My Favourite Place. Have been going to Dairy Lane for a few years. Consistently great, even through change of management and opening of their second diner - Blue Star. Good choice of delicious Vegan options. The wait for a table does not take very long and the service is efficient. Love that the products are locally sourced and I enjoy their Wines, Lemonade, Ginger Beer, teas and coffee. Blankets are provided if you want to sit outside.

Overpriced cafe!. This is a nice neighbourhood restaurant, friendly, but way overpriced. $15 for a burger and an extra $4.25 for small fries is gouging. $19.25 for burger and fries! Yes, they are "gourmet" burgers and good (but not great) fries, but that is really excessive. When people say average Calgary restaurants are higher-priced than NYC, this is the kind of place they are talking about. Also, we waited over half an hour for our burgers and were never offered a top up on the "endless" cup of coffee. Not recommended.

Yum, Yum!. Such an awesome little place. Delicious food and good service. BEST YAM FRIES EVER. Oh, and try the bison chili!

I had a girls lunch date here and I could not have been happier! Not only did I have great company the server was very attentive, very knowledgable and very pleasant. The food was incredible, I had the burger with fries and to date I have never had a better burger. My boyfriend lives down the street and everytime we drive past there is a lineup down the street. I completely understand why. It's because the food, atmosphere and experience is impeccable! Whether it's a girls date or a date with my man it is a great place to be!

That cream cheese berry French toast is amazing. All the food looked delicious & quick friendly service. The place is tiny so it gets loud when it's filled up but other than that - I will be back!
Kenny Liu
The food was ok, but really over priced. Really not used to spending $20-$25 just on breakfast.

Tasty. I popped in for breakfast yesterday as I was in the neighborhood and remembered seeing the place. I had the Stuffed French Toast (savory). I was served hot and fresh. Very tasty. It had the promised "warmed Quebec maple syrup" which was definitely real maple. It also had a drizzle of holandaise over one corner all artistic-like. The holandaise was great. I'm sure it was house-made - it was amazing. I love breakfast. I really love great breakfast, and this was all of that.

Nothing special. It was my first and last time. I used Urbanspoon to recommend a good burger in Calgary and this place was one of the tops. It was crowded, my burger was burnt and tasteless. The coffee was at least good. I most likely won't go back.

Great Breakfest. This is a pretty good breakfast place, the food and service was great. Everything was fresh and properly portioned. The only thing that is not so great is the wait, you have to get there early to get in before the line.

My wife have gone here many times for breakfast and no matter what we've tried we are always super happy. From their breakfasts, to their hamburgers nothing is a miss.
The only thing I don't like is we use to live with in blocks and now have to drive almost 20 mins.
Never change anything...well maybe a bigger space but I like it small and intimate plus you get to see what others are eating! Helps you try other things on their menu!!

This place has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants in Calgary. Been here multiple times with my husband and close friends. But no matter who I am here with, the food and service is always exceptional.

Tofu scram. I had high hopes for their tofu scram, being new to Calgary and new to being so limited in vegetarian restaurant choices. The scram just had way too much going on. I do love coconut curry, and sun dried tomatoes, but not together. Not sure if I'll try this place again.

Overall Great!. The food and service here are both fantastic. They really work as a team so no one gets ignored, despite being full almost all the time. The coffee is great, as are the milkshakes. Gluten free options are yummy, the salmon eggs benny is one of my favorite, along with the chicken burger. The seasonal soups are always unique, and I always start with it (Cauliflower puree with truffle oil right now!). I don't have a single complaint about it- it's on the pricey side but everything is local and fresh, so I'm willing to pay more because it actually does taste better! Well worth the wait!
Sheisagem
Love it!. My absolute favourite breakfast restaurant in town. Dairy Lane uses healthy local produce and creates deliciousness. Love the french toasts and milk shakes. It's always busy and you have to wait, but it is so worth it!
Veronica Lynn Dorscht
So yummy! Had the beef burger and fries and I must say, this is one of the best burgers I've had anywhere in the city! Worth every penny, and I'll definitely be going back.
Brian
I could not say better things. Just go eat breakfast here.

Lovely place, wasn't too crowded. Wonderful variety on a short menu. Service was decent and food was very tasty.

Always great!. I have been to Dairy Lane many, many times, and I've never left disappointed. It is always busy, and there is always a lineup, but the hostess will always offer you a coffee while you wait. The service is friendly, and prompt, and the food is fantastic! Bravo. A lot of places tend to fall off the rails when it's busy, but DL just seems to keep movin' along.
The Dairy Lane Burger... and the Yam Fries. The Vegan Tofu Scramble. All magical.

Pretty expensive for a mediocre dinner. Went there with my boyfriend a few weeks ago to check it out after all the amazing reviews. The burgers are expensive - 11.75 for the basic (lettuce tomato and meat) + about $2 for any add-on like cheese or bacon or mushrooms. The bun was alright.
We got milkshakes, and they were $5-5.50 (which is fairly standard).
The fries were okay, but not by any means outstanding. They seemed kind of old and MacDonaldsy.

Overall about $50 for two people. I prefer Montana's burgers any day.

Tiny, cute, and yummy!. Popped in for a mid-week lunch and only had to wait a few minutes for a table on the patio. Service was good - fast, efficient, but friendly. I had the house made lemonade which was delicious. Everything we saw on the tables around us looked delicious. I had the burger that was on special that day. It had fried onions, horseradish aioli, a tomato, and cheddar cheese on a juicy hamburger. I had the yam fries on the side but wish I had stuck with normal fries. I've had way better yam fries elsewhere and their normal fries were the yummy shoestring kind. Huge portion, I was really full after eating 2/3 of my meal. It's a bit expensive, but a great value considering the quality of the food they serve. I hope to return soon!

Great brunch spot. I've been to Dairy Lane a few times and I always leave satisfied. The last time I came I had a huge omelet stuffed with fillings. It got a bit heavy towards the end, but I finished! The toast was great and even my sister who isn't a big toast fan finished hers off. Service is decent, too. The only downside is that the location is quite small so if you come during the peak hours be prepared to wait.

Bad Way to Start A Day.... My wife and I were looking forward to a nice relaxing delicious breakfast to start the long weekend (based on the positive reviews on UrbanSpoon) but ended up being quite disappointed.

The key to a good meal is a nice atmosphere (check), prompt service (yikes), and good tasting food. The atmosphere was nice on the patio, however the our order was not entered into the computer so we waited, and waited... The wait probably tainted my perception of the food which seemed mediocre. The final straw was a family of wasps that did not allow us to enjoy our tardy meal in peace.
Rebecca
Oh my goodness! They never cease to make me happy! Had quesadillas off the feature menu! It made me so happy and helped out someone else. So cool. Plus the service is always great.
Fud
Decent. I ordered a burger, it was not greasy at all and tasted pretty good, the bacon was a generous amount and the cheese was nice. The service is also pretty good. My only complaint is the size and clientele. Had I gone at a less busy hour I probably would have enjoyed it. When there is a loud group of people at a table they are all you will hear through the whole restaurant and you will probably be surrounded by smelly hipsters.

What's going on?. We have been going to DL for years and it has always been great...until recently. The service has gone down the drain, we waited 45min for 2 burgers, no one refilled our coffees and it just seems that no one cares. Years back the owner was there and things ran 110%, I realize he can't be there all the time, but I think this restaurant needs new servers or maybe a course on customer service.
Karen
It was my husband and my first time at Dairy Lane and it was great! 100% of today's sales and gratuities went to flood relief and it was such an amazing thing to see the servers be to selfless and still provide amazing service even though realistically, they were not keeping the tip.

I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the smoked salmon and asparagus eggs Benny and both were wonderful. We both enjoyed the hash browns. We will definitely be back.
Lolaeats
Just there. Took 45 minutes for food and then it was not what we order. The service was very poor Only one waitress actually paid attention to guest. Scant hollandaise cold potatoes. All in all major disappointment.

Always great. When you see a line up you know this local breakfast spot is going to be good. Love the staff, the constancy and the small touches like offering coffee while your waiting especially in the winter where guests wait patiently to get a spot.

Best Burger in Calgary. Amazing burgers and fries, love the local sourced food. Salads are exceptional. The burgers have real flavour and the sylvan star cheese and hudderite bacon are great additions. These guys are fighting Calgary's bland generic food epidemic one burger at a time.

Good food and service. Delicious! Today I had the pleasure of having the chicken club and it was on point. The pesto mayo, avocado, bacon and chicken made for a great combination. The sandwiches usually come alongside either fries, soup or salad. Naturally, I went with the yam fries. I was absolutely in love with the aioli that accompanied it. Best part about it, is that breakfast is served till 3pm (which is rare for diners) and they are opened straight through the day into the evening. The restaurant itself is quite small and I can only imagine how busy it gets on weekends. I love that its in quiet neighborhood and has that home-like feel.

Great Diner!. My friends and I went to Dairy Lane on Saturday for a early dinner and the place was not extremely busy. I ordered their feature burger and it was juicy and moist. The price is reasonable and I am definitely coming back~

Fabulous food! Great coffee! All 4 of us had the eggs Benedict (3 with back back and 1 with salmon and pickled asparagus). Wow! Amazing! Eggs were perfect, sauce great, all the details were in place. Wonderful Fratello direct trade coffee. Just great all around!! #youvegottoeathere

Fantastic little hole in the wall, very intimate, great for couples. Food was excellent, fresh ingredients from local sources. Be prepared to enjoy a coffee on the patio, as the place was packed, for good reason!
Megan
Dairy Lane. Great little breakfast stop! Been very busy every time I've gone and the food is always tasty!

Great food and service. Do NOT go elsewhere. I had the burger and fries and my son had the giant breakfast. Delicious food nicely prepared. Great service. What "diner" food should be like!
Luvfood
Go elsewhere....overpriced food, theirtheir Hasbrown were look like they were fryed days before and refried ,I never seen blacker oily ones in my breakfast days .tables way to close,so close in fact my butt swipe the next table ..talk about disappointment.never will I go back .try next place better bang for your buck.

Dairy lane cafe. Went with my partner to Dairy lane today for the first time. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired with the closely placed seats. There was constant cold air blowing on me from one of the vents. The Veggie burger, and yam fries could have been better, the fries weren't the best with sugar and cinnamon? They tasted more like a strange desert than a main course. The only thing that was positive was the desert! I had the apple pie with ice cream. That part was amazing.

Exceptional service. We just love Dairy Lane. We love the menu and the fact that they use locally-sourced ingredients. And we just love the staff. The place is usually crowded, but they always greet you cheerfully and give you coffee while you wait. It is always a good experience.

Yesterday, I made a mistake and ordered my sandwich without the gluten-free bun. They replaced it for me (actually insisted on replacing it) and were so nice about it even though it was my mistake.

The Best!. One of my favorite breakfast/lunch spots. Amazing, local food that is full of flavor. I don't mind paying good money for a good meal.. and this surpasses my expecations every time! One of my regular spots.
David
Delicious. I had the featured Elk burger.probably the best burger I've ever had. Great little place especially if you like to support local business as most of the menu items are from local suppliers!

What a great little place. Food is so good and fresh. Loved the atmosphere, too. Will definately be back!

An incredible burger...

Good Breakfast. First time there this morning for breakfast, had berry-stuffed french toast, hash browns and bacon. Not usually a fan of breakfast, but it was very good. Everything was very well prepared, from the orange juice, to the toast to the bacon. I'd recommend all of it, and will happily return.
