Review Galaxie Diner - Calgary

Kristy Chen
Let me start by saying that the food here was delicious. They had the perfect brunch dish for me because I love salmon, eggs, croissant, and hash browns, it was absolutely scrumptious and not too heavy. The vintage decor was super cute and vintage, I think this restaurant has been around for a while. The place is tiny and gets packed easily, but I would definitely recommend this place. I’m thinking of coming here dressed in the clothes to match the decor next time!

A classic diner. Took us 15 minutes to get there, but it was worth it. Arrived at 9, had to wait for a few minutes before we got a table. It is a small place. While waiting, they offered us Coffee. Very nice gesture from a friendly staff. The place was very busy, but not too noisy. Got a place at the counter and got a chance to chat with the staff and owner. Ordered egg sandwiches and Milk shakes, but the menu offers a lot more. The portions were gigantic so you will not leave hungry. Bottomless coffee was also part of the breakfast. The best coffee so far. A cool little place, with great breakfast menu. You might have to wait to be seated, but it is worth it.

Amazing food, love how close you can be to the chef and watch them cook... Great experience and staff is super friendly. Prices are on the higher side but the unlimited hashbrowns makes up for it. Would recommend to try.

The brunch menu is indescribably perfect. It has a huge range of delicious foods for every craving, as well as a lengthy milkshake list. This space is tiny, and as such, sometimes requires a waiting time. However, it’s worth the 30 or so minutes, as the food is delicious, the vibes are perfect, and the service is friendly.

Busy but very accomodating and efficient staff. They provided some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. Their food is really good, yummy bottomless hashbrowns, and refillable coffee. The wait on a Sunday at 1 PM was around 30 minutes but definitely worth it. Also very accomodating for dietary restrictions.

Holly molly! Best place the environment truly take me back to the 80ths bottomless hash browns and bread what else can I ask for! The service was excellent and the food Delicious it is definitely a must for everyone that visit Calgary!

2022 breakfast menu Really cute 50s style diner. We went on a Tuesday morning and got seated immediately, I imagine there would definitely be a wait on weekends as there aren't many tables Rueben Benny was 10/10, really interesting flavour combo with sauerkraut, mustard and hollandaise. Must try! Huevos rancheros were good, pretty standard. Hasbrowns are perfect combo of soft and crunchy. They still do unlimited toast and hash browns so it feels like good value! Quick service, good coffee. overall a great breakfast spot if you're looking for diner classics

What a lovely place. It's your "hole in the wall" type of place and we really loved it. Be aware that there are only a few tables/seats what makes it more desirable. Service was great and attentive. I got the regular eggs Benny, they come on a toasted croissant and though the eggs were not poached as you expect but fried, it was awesome. Rich and delicious hollandaise, believing it was home made. The galaxy burger a delicious gooey mees with cheese just melting away. Only have a picture of the eggs but we were both happy, full and very satisfied. Highly recommended. Only downside were the potatoes.

My daughter and I went here for the first time Friday April 14th after I was looking for a retro kind of restaurant to take her to. This place was amazing. The small quaint place has so much vibe! The staff was amazing. Personable and would go over the top to make your experience great. Serving coffee to those waiting outside...you would never find this at a franchise place. The food was outstanding! Cooked on an open grill that you could watch. We sat at the counter...so retro! I would highly suggest you take a visit. We will most definately be back. We ordered the Montreal Smoked Meat hash and the Calgary Sandwich! We were able to share and they would even plate it to share, how awesome is that! My new favorite place.

If you enjoy overpriced breakfasts that result in rectum-searing diarrhea that burns like the unholy fires of Mount Doom, then I heartily recommend eating at the Galaxie Diner. Don't get me wrong. It's clear that the Galaxie Diner is an institution, and that its retro vibes are much beloved by Calgary's throngs of pretentious, flannel and vintage record loving hipsters (at any given time you can find a long line-up of bearded and tattooed masses texting outside). Unfortunately, what's missing from the Galaxie Diner's "Happy Days" meets Edward Hopper decor is a place that actually serves decent food. Instead, the result is tasteless and exorbitantly overpriced greasy spoon fare that makes a Denny's Scrambler look like goddamn haute cuisine. My wife and I recently ate here and we might have excused the bill if the food had been any good. Unfortunately we're talking $15 for a soggy breakfast burrito dripping in some kind of grease-based ectoplasm, not to mention weak ass coffee, stale, slightly burnt toast and half-cooked hash browns. Then of course, there's the mopey, disaffected, cooler-than-thou staff who look annoyed at having to top up your coffee or - Sufjan Stevens forbid! - get you a glass of goddamn water. Honestly, the sad truth is that can get a much better meal and much better service for a fraction of the price at any number of other greasy spoon mom and pop shops around the city. All that to say, if you'd like to recreate the Galaxie Diner experience at home, try this: take a wad of cash, some eggs and bacon and toss them all directly into the nearest toilet. It's pretty much exactly what you can expect from eating here.

This is our favourite place to dine whether it's the all day breakfast or lunch. Food is always amazing and the customer service is the best. Our daughter Daisy who's 2 is best friends with the manager Brad Anytime we have friends or family over from Ireland this is the one place we bring them

Might be my favorite breakfast ever. Personable staff and even the other patrons were amazing. Had the Montreal smoked beef Benedict and couldnt have been better. Constant coffee top offs and asked if i wanted more hashbrowns. The wait is well worth it. If you are in Calgary, please make a stop at this amazing diner.

Galaxie is one of my all-time favorite breakfast spots in the city. The food is AH-MAY-ZING, the staff is so friendly and efficient, and the owner is often around to say hello. It gets busy on weekends because of its popularity with regulars so be sure to go early or call and check what the wait list is like. Definitely a must check out.
Filomena Rosati
It's cozy even at 7am! Friendly and quick service. Great breakfast go to place. 3$ for constant coffee pour and bacon is extra.
Nick Cronshaw
Food is top notch as was the service. Portion size left me rolling out of the door... Perhaps not the cheapest, but hey, downtown Calgary.
Jesse Lee Hayman
This place has a fantastic breakfast. I was in Calgary for 5 days and was here for 5 breakfasts. Order the 'Uncle Jesse', it's the best thing on the menu (except it's on the secret menu). Uncle Jesse: 3 soft braised eggs Avocado Sliced tomato Ham Hashbrowns So good.
Rebecca Mumford
Was the best breakfast I have had in long time. So tasty and large portions!
Mike Dixon
Always great food and service..staff is really friendly too..good coffee..the seat u s fast as possible..lineups all the time ..

Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere and the people working here are always great to chat to and give great service. Met the owner on numerous occasions and he's a swell guy too
Rob Oliver
First time there and food and service was amazing. Would recommend and will return again

Nice place, vintage, old '60 style, excellent food. You have to Try it out. Also awesome coffee.

Always a pleasure!! Food never disappoints and the experience never forgotten!! I WILL be back again.....and again....and again.......
Kimberley Beattie
Took my son there for breakfast, his first choice was Denny's, I said no way...I'm going to take you somewhere fantastic that's been around for years!! He loved it. Broke free from Denny's finally!!
Josh Edwards
I've been eating early morning breakfast here for over 10 years! Love it
Carmello Luigi
Always amazing good good and great service! I only have good things to say about my experiences here. I even remember one time where I was waiting outside the line was so long during a busy period and a staff member came out and offered me a cup of coffee while I waited.
James.cossette
I was a first time customer, I didn't no about the all you can eat this or that , but I wanted a quite place to drink a coffee, this might not be the place , unless you wait till say 9:am breakfast was ok but the bill floored me when I received the Bill $8.50 for one coffee and a partial refill to warm it up . I was checking out my map to see were I might go next. The bubble gum had a joke in it and it came with the bill, I found most sausages were the same larger sized then you see in my province, but the puny hash browns were small compared to what you see in Manitoba ,Toronto,Ontario, Regina,Montreal , hence the free seconds. If you want a free second cup of coffee and a refill I'd suggest the Holy Grill they were friendly the minute you came in explained were every thing was , and spent Quality time talking to you, As well they offered a Free coffee on the house too. I saw only two differences you gave order at counter and they added side fruit for a nice look, Galaxie might be ok for free second's bread and potatoes, but you can get that in a few Institutions. And what I heard from waitress at next table was Have we filled you up yet.or do you need more, I never got it till I read the side of the menu ,but she was pleasant , and I informed her of not understanding her question if I wanted more as I never read that and was never told that ,but you had to initiate the conversation . To get the full grasp on what the restaurant offered , perhaps they have more customers if they explained it , even though the customer may not want it it is word of mouth that builds a business

Cool old-school diner vibe. Very friendly and attentive staff.
The food however was just ok. I had the huevos rancheros and my husband had the smoked salmon egg benny. We did not care much for the hash brown mush. I love hash brown, but I like them to have crunch on the outside, not look like a chunky paste. The eggs were well cooked and the flavours were alright. My husband did not like that his smoked salmon was fridge cold on a warm dish.

Galaxie represents perhaps the best basic diner for breaky and lunch in the city. After checking out many of the others - Blue Star, Red's, OEBs, Dairy Lane, John's, Vendome, Brekkie, Monki, Diner Deluxe - we find that Galaxie is plain jane great. Of course different strokes for different folx, but if you want a really well cooked breaky that will adjust your order to your taste, check it out?

Oh yes, Myrhe's Deli is associated and next door, and has hands-down best Mtl. smoked meat sands in the city!

So if you are obsessive like me to find the best among the good, do the tripping, but basic goodness = basic goodness.
Mish
Good food. Love the unlimited hash browns. Atmosphere of the place is like an old 50s diner. I come by here for breakfast on occasion and will continue coming back.
Dan Lepkowski
I sure do love my breakfast so when I hear about a breakfast joint with a classic diner feel I needed to try it out!

I ordered the salmon benny and make your own omelette. Wow each was simply delicious and offering massive portions to crave your hunger. Prices felt just right for what you were getting.

Make sure when you come here , come hungry ! This is an excellent classic breakfast joint. Come early as this restaurant is very small!
Check it out!!!
Mandy
Had this breakfast sandwich on a croissant with bacon, egg and avocado with mayo. It sounded like a weird idea but it was super good! Was a bit of a wait to be seated because we went on a weekend but staff was very friendly and service was quick, for the crowd it didn't take long to receive our food. I'll for sure be back!
A&K
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. The portion sizes are perfect, but the bottomless hashbrowns and toast is a great option for anyone who has a big appetite.
Britt Rae
One of the best breakfast places in Calgary. Old school dinner style with great food. Bonus all you can eat hashbrowns! I love watching the chef work his magic behind the bar.
Sharon Vazquez
Food is good but terrible customer service, this blonde waitress with glasses is so mean and rude that she kicked us out of the diner with no reason!!1, I just wanted to catch up with my friend and since the moment we sit down, she was rushing us, It was not even busy by the time we got there but if there is time limit to be there, should be a HUGE SIGN that says please eat and go, so disappointed with the service.....:(

This place has been around for years, I've been in Calgary 20 years and it's a mainstay. It's fun, it has a cool retro vibe. The milk shakes are good. The food itself is plain. Who wants to pay $15 for bacon and eggs and coffee you can make at home? Granted, that's not the reason you come.
KT
One of my favorite breakfast places to go to in Calgary. It's a relatively small place so expect to wait a bit. I go on the weekdays so it's generally less busy. I walk by on the weekends and it's always slammed. Large portions, well priced. Make sure you come here hungry. The Montreal Smoke Meat Hash is a must try!!!
Angela Tung
A very old-timey diner feel the moment you walk in. Everything is made in the open kitchen on a flat-top grill which is scraped regularly by the bus chef. The service was wonderful and extremely accommodating, especially since there are way too many milkshake flavours to choose from. The server made two kid sized ones for us instead since we really could not decide.
I had a huge plate of the huevos rancheros which came on a crispy, grilled tortilla which is an added bonus. One thing I wish was for the eggs to be a little runnier so the yolk could moisten the other ingredients. Overall, a great hole in the wall for an all day breakfast.
Sovain
Righteous breakfast place, right next to Myhre's deli. Hash browns! Fresh eggs, ham, bacon, toast for days. Probably a hangover cure. Nice people.
DW Sturley
We have driven past this restaurant many times when we have visited Calgary. It is always very busy. We made it there today. Filthy dirty floors and walls. Food scraps and dirt. Disgusting. Food pretty mediocre. Why the lines? No idea.
Lance Duncan
Smoked meat hash is my favourite breakfast in the city. Early weekdays you can easily get a spot. Weekends it's worth the wait!!!
Good for breaky foodies

A 1950's style retro diner, I've been coming here for years. Consistently great breakfast, favourites are the eggs Benedict and the French toast. There are not many tables and a consistent line up on weekends. Most of the time we do pickup for the convenience.
Neltron
One of my favourite breakfast places. This diner us extremely small and only seats about 25 ppl. If you don't go super early you will be waiting outside for a long time. But once you are in you the food will be worth it.
ES
Great place to pop in for a quick breakfast. I really enjoyed the eggs benedict and you can watch the chefs while they cook. They have great service and even though there was a decent line up at the door when we got there, we were the only table of two. But we were in and out probably within an hour. Very pleased overall.

Galaxy is the same deal (and owners) as the Belmont in Marda Loop - you could spin around in one and not know which one you're at. It does "Hipster Diner" really well and serves up all the diner classics. The double breakfast burrito represents the best value and the milk shakes maybe the worst. But there is something for everyone.

Galaxie Diner in the Beltline area of Calgary is an old school diner. This diner was recommended by a friend, so we went. Surprisingly, it was a block away from our hotel, which was awesome. Galaxie diner opened in 1996 serving delicious meals at fair prices. The diner is small, so it doesn’t fit too many people at once. We came here on a weekday just before the lunch time rush and we had to wait a little bit for a table of 2.

Looking for an old school diner that will take you back to the old days? Galaxie Diner would be the place to go. We got the breakfast burrito and Calgary sandwich. It was both pretty awesome.
Techguy012
Used to eat here several times a week due to their amazing breakfast food, but stopped due to some changes I've noticed over the last few months. Unfortunately the flavour has gotten a bit bland and food quality has gone down. I've had several occasions where I've had upset stomach after eating here and had to stop rolling the dice. I suspect it's the food handling as I've noticed a lack of proper food safe handling practices. Nothing beats cracking a raw egg and then grabbing your toast without washing your hands.... Yummy salmonella!
CordovaPie
This gem in the Beltline offers a classic diner vibe with some genuinely good eats. On several a weekend I've driven past here with fingers crossed, but with massive line ups...it was never going to happen. Until one weekday...we got a table! After being inside this adorable and incredibly tiny space, I get why there are line ups now. Friendly service and of course delicious food (&milkshakes) prepared quickly. I did experience deja vu here with Belmont Diner in Marda Loop. If this joint is in your hood I hope you get to enjoy it often. Let me know what you think!@galaxiediner

This is the first place I had had cravat at when I moved to Calgary, so this place serves a bit of nostalgia for me.
It's a cute tiny little breakfast joint with cool vintage decors.
When I come here, I always get the eggs Benny, and if you haven't tried it here yet, you definitely should.
First of all, they serve it not on the traditional English muffin, but instead they serve it on a croissant, secondly, they don't just drizzle hollandaise on your eggs, they laddle it all over your Bennys.
Definitely one of my to favorite places to go.

Galaxie Diner is probably my favourite breakfast/brunch place in Calgary when I want something simple and delicious. There is nothing fancy here, really think of it as a classic diner (you'll be sitting in booths) except they've mastered how to prep their food.
The omelette is delicious: you get to pick all the toppings you want (no surcharge), and both the hash brown and toasts are bottomless! The burgers are good, the milk shakes really good, and the staff super super nice.
There is pretty much always a line unless you get there early or get lucky, but they'll pour you some coffee to help with the wait. Just get your bum there already!
PoppaWheelie
Classic diner fare - all the hot coffee you can drink and prompt hot food. The sausages were split and grilled nicely and the Galaxy Scramble I tried was a tasty blend of egg, onion, tomato, bacon and gooey cheese punctuated with tangy rings of pickled banana peppers. Definitely hangover friendly, but great for hearty appetites craving breakfast at any time of the day.
KnitClub
Nothing better than a greasy breakfast at Galaxie. It's a very small venue but well worth the wait on a hungover Sunday morning. Take out is good as well! Any breakfast that has smoked meat is good for the soul.
Scrumptiously Fit Food
I’ve been meaning to stop by Galaxie Diner for a long time now, ever since I first tried the Montreal smoked meat at their sister restaurant Myhre’s Deli next door. However the wait for a table always daunted me, but for a new brunch column I’m doing for CBC’s the Homestretch (airs every other Thursday) I decided to give it a go. We were prepared for a wait when we were heading down to the diner, but as luck would have it we ended up with the last open table!Atmosphere: 1950s style retro diner which transports you in time. Price Range: Mid $10s
Thetakeaway
This is my go to place for simple brunch with generous portions. It's greasy, so if you're in the mood for a light meal this place may not be for you. But every time i go, Galaxie's milkshakes, coffee and bennies are consistently satisfying.
Theresa
This is a great diner for breakfast. Portions are massive, and are your basic breakfast dishes like eggs, bacon, and hash. The ovaltine milkshake is incredible.
YYCFoodie
Still love this cute diner! The staff is on the ball and offers you coffee as you wait outside and they continually update your wait time. Food is fresh and fast. The galaxie Benedict is served on a croissant with a sunny side up egg. Soooo good!!

7 months ago:
Love their traditional milkshakes and generous portioned breakfasts. Cute atmosphere bringing you back in time! Staff is friendly. It gets busy so either go early or late!
Alan Byers
Love these guys. The sort of greasy-spoon, generous-portions yet high-quality food I look for in a breakfast restaurant, and they're not fickle about hours, ie. closed on Mondays/Tuesdays or just random days like OEB. The service is excellent; even when the poor girl's alone she manages to stay on top of things better than most places. Try the Montreal smoked meat hash. You won't regret it.
Sara Turner
Other menu highlights include: Calgary's only omelette of choice - get as many things in your omelette as you want Montreal Smoked Meat Hash - done up the way any good hash should be The breakfast burritos - two huge burritos for only $14 again with bottomless hash browns Anyways if you're in the nei
Frank Rizzo
Place is excellent. Always have to wait and always worth it !!! Galaxie French toast is the best
Cathy Lin
This place is always ridiculously busy on the weekend. If you're not an early bird, you will be looking for at least a 40 min wait. We went there 2 times, gave up both times because of the hour-long wait (warning: don't go in winter as there is no waiting area. you will have to wait in the cold). One last time we tried, we went on a weekday and immediately got a table. We both ordered the eggs benedict - one salmon, one montreal smoked meat. Montreal smoked meat tasted better. My verdict: above average, but not impressed. Would I go again for its eggs benedict? No, not with that long of a wait.
LazyChef
Great stuff. Love this place, had been a while...deff will be back sooner than later. imo have breakfast, the french toast rocks.
Booms
Expected wayyyy better food, the service was slow and the guy obviously hated his life who served us.
Reds is the place in town hands down and this place needs to step up the food and customer services to even compete to the other good places in Calgary
Shayla
Worth The Wait. This place is fantastic. While it does take quite a while to get a table on weekends, the food and friendly service is totally worth waiting for. Absolutely delicious.
Mikesgreatadventures
Loyal Customer. I've been eating at The Galaxie almost weekly for over 10 years and have yet to have a bad meal or service. It is a great little hang out where the staff remembers who you are and where my kids ask to go for brunch. Would highly recommend it to those who are not familiar.

Always Good. I've been going to Galaxie for years, every time I've gone it's been good. I just went on Monday, waited about 10 minutes for a table, and was served immediately when I sat down. Coffee stayed full and warm the whole time (about 2 hours), food was good as usual (I had breakfast burritos, super filling, my firend had a scramwich which was also really good), and the food was fast, less than 10 minutes after ordering it was in front of us despite the place being full. The server was peppy and super friendly (and funny!). No complaints here!! I've found the service a little on the slow side previously (empty coffee/water, etc.) but she was great, and working by herself. It's worth popping by, but expect to wait, especially on the weekend.

Very Disappointed.. After walking by the diner multiple times and seeing the line ups, I figured this would be a must try. My roommate and I decided to go in on a weekday when they were less busy to try it out. The service was fine, it wasn't very busy, but the food was beyond sub par, not to mention the price we paid for it. I ordered the 'chicken club' and she had the 'mile high BLT.' Both were awful. For $13 she got a basic sandwhich with 4 pieces of bacon, not quite mile high, that was tasteless. I received a tiny chicken breast on two slices of white toast that took about six bites to eat, and cost me $15. Add to that $3 for tea, and the gross hash browns that came with the sandwhiches, and we will never be back.
Nick
Pretty solid breakfast joint; you can't really go wrong with anything on their menu. As with most diners in Calgary, it's a bit on the pricey side.
Unilyn
Best eggs Benedict's. This place has the best eggs Benedict's! I also recommend ordering the apple pie milkshake, it's simply heaven in a cup!!!
3barwar
Food junkie. Big disappointment. Premade over priced hamburger patties.Pre-made fried potatoes euk.
A.bricker
Don't eat here if you have any kind of food allergy or intolerance. I ordered a gluten free meal and was told by the server and the person who brought over my meal that it was gluten free. As I was eating I noticed a weird random piece of crust attached to my French toast. I started feeling weird right away and as the day progressed I got extremely sick. They obviously didn't pay any attention to the fact that I required a gluten free meal and I got extremely sick because of it.

Besides getting poisoned the bacon was wayyy too over done and the hash browns were disgusting and soggy no one at the table are them.

Cool Diner. I love this place! Cool retro theme with great service and great food. I wish there were more diners like this in Calgary. I'll make sure to drop by when I'm in the area.
Ms_luckygirl
Best Breakfast In Town!. My boyfriend and I have been having the best breakfasts in Calgary at the Galaxie Diner for the last year together. Amazing, speedy, kind service - stellar milkshakes, and my usual is the Scramwich. Affordable, large portions (I usually half order everything), keep up the great work, Galaxie Diner!
Ellen Marie
Amazing for brunch of hang-over breakfast. Best french toast and best hash browns. The hash browns are limitless and thank goodness because they're amazing.
I will definitely go back here again & again.
Zeeshan
I have to say that galaxie diner is one of the best brunch places in town. I ordered the galaxie French toast, and it was phenomenal. The only negative about this place is the immensely small dining area that doesn't do justice to the dining experience. Staff is great!! I would recommend this place for all my friends. I hope one day galaxie diner moves to a bigger place so that there is more room inside, which would definitely increase teekh quality of the dining experience.
Red Deer Foodie
Good. Had the Calgary Sandwich, yummmmmm. A little over priced for breakfast.
Urbanfood
I still love this place!
Sploogeonfood
Very unimpressed. Only a calgarian could possibly think this place is good.
Wow an average of 15$ a plate for non-organic, non-local food. Pitiful. But I guess when all breakfast places here commit to the same lack of quality and over pricing calgarians just get on their knees and enjoy the ensuing meal.

This is as much a rant on this restaurant as it is on the supreme lack of quality and overpricing of calgary in general. If your looking for overpriced food of average calgarian quality this place should suffice.

Go buy the ingredients for 2.50 and make yourself the same meal, nothing special going on here. Who has a 600% mark up. Dispicable and greedy.
Tristan
Best kind of diner. I love small diners with great food. This fits the bill and then some!

A cut above the rest. My wife, our daughter, and I went to Galaxie Diner over the weekend on a beautiful afternoon. We wanted brunch so we figured we'd go see how bad the lineup was for Galaxie. It was not bad at all and we were in in about 20 minutes. The food quality and service were amazing. I had the montreal smoked meat eggs benny and it was rich, creamy, and tasty. The hashbrowns were so good I also ate half the ones on my wife's plate! The best part of the experience was our friendly waitress. When our daughter asked for chocolate milk and they didn't have any, she walked to the grocery store a few buildings over and bought a chocolate milk. I have never been to a restaurant that ever made such a gesture before. We were beyond impressed and left a tip that reflected how impressed we were.

Wonderful diner. Loved the atmosphere and setup. They make great use of a small space. Really enjoyed being able to see the cook at work making our breakfasts. Friendly and very team oriented employees. Good selection and nice quality!

Calgary Classic. Don't go out from breakfast much but after every visit here I question why I don't more often. Countless great menu items and a really cool atmosphere. The Montreal Smoked Benny is out of control good.
Chris Matthew
Good weekend brunch :). This is a fun place once in a while for a weekend morning. Expect to wait in line however, always busy. Both food and service are good. The fast pace service gives you energy but does not stress you out. Free refill of harsh browns and toasts for breakfast entree! My favourite is their breakfast burrito.
Bologna
Had the burritos, they were great. Would defiantly go back. Want to try the smoked meat next time
Christopher Curry
Horrible service.. Decided to try Galaxie today with the wife, we had not had breakfast yet, and knew they served all day breakfast. Got there about 12:15pm, and they were busy. 4 people ahead of us standing in the doorway. (2 groups of 2 and then us.) We waited patiently, and were never acknowledged once. after about 25 mins, we were finally next to be seated, and 2 spots at the bar opened up. One staff member started cleaning, and then the door opened behind us, and 2 men wearing suits walked in, were immediately greeted, and then told to sit at the bar. At this point, I speak up and looking at the guy who told the suits to have a seat and ask "what the hell man?" to which I got a shrug. We left and will not be returning, not that it matters as they are so busy all the time, they can let crap like this happen. If you are going here, have a backup plan.
Yy
Solid. Always a good choice for breakfast. The servers all work together and the portions are generous...little pricey for breakfast but the quality and quantity is there and it's no small feat to get out as many dishes as they do in a such a timely manner. Their hollandaise could use a little more seasoning but that's me being overly critical. My choice to get me feeling normal again after ahem...a night of over indulgence ;)
Hi
Great food and service. Ordered a large omelette, and the waitress let us split it onto 2 plates. And didn't even charge us for subbing in fruit. Will definitely be back.

We won't be heading out of the way to visit the Galaxie Diner again. I had the smoked meat hash, which was pretty mediocre surprisingly. The portion was totally oversized. Though the menu does mention half sizes are available, I just wouldn't have expected it to be so big regardless. My husband had a BCLT (also just ok) which arrived to the table about 5 min after mine. We couldn't figure out if that was standard practice for the joint or what. Hubby had planned on a milkshake to go, but the Server dropped the bill before asking if we wanted anything else. The restaurant itself is tiny but charming.

Nothing special..overpriced n more!. Im from Ontario and decided to give this place a try. The smoked meat is tasty but overpriced. 2 young unprofessional men were working and not very friendly nor properly answering my questions and were to busy watching tv and talking about sports..they didnt seem to care for my business. The Montreal Classic(ONLY 6oz portion!!) is a whopping ridiculous price of $10.75. Just get the Small cut which is only $7.25.. They are charging $3.50 MORE for effin cheese lettuce tomato red onion which is ludicrous and robbery. They also have the GULL not to include a kosher pickle. This should be standard.. DUHH! Options side of EITHER chips, coleslaw, or Pickle is quite ridiculous. You should include the PICKLE no matter what. They must be stingy greeks running the place..

It's okay - Would not recommend. Galaxie Diner is best described as mediocre. Everything about the place is very average except for the price which is high. The high price for average to below average food left me feeling very unsatisfied with this place. The portions are huge but again the quality is low. My favorite part of the meal might have been the bread- which isn't saying much. The coffee is not terrible but it's far from good.

Overall not worth a visit!

Went on a Tuesday morning 10:00am got right in. We enjoyed the atmosphere of a small old school diner, price was a little high, service was good, food was average hash browns were not cooked very good and pretty salty no wonder they are bottomless. Price 5/10, food 5/10, service 5/10. Oeb, dinerdelux and Cora's are much better IMO just my 2cents

Tasty, if you're willing to wait.. Went here for breakfast with some friends this weekend. Heading there at 11:00 on a Sunday was a silly mistake. The diner literally has 6 tables and a bar to eat at. As you can imagine it took a while to get in. However, coffee was offered on the sidewalk where the overflow of people hung out. Nice touch.

The service wasn’t awful, but wasn’t personal by any means. More of a drop-and-run type deal and we weren’t surprised as there were only 2 servers on and a packed restaurant to tend to.

Food was good. A little pricier than most breakfast joints but the quality was there. Much better than a Cora's or Denny's where you can tell nothing is fresh or home-made. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals.

Atmosphere was cute. Just like you'd expect a diner to look, with red vinyl booths and jukeboxes on the wall.

We live in the south so I am not sure I would make the trek downtown to go again to wait in line for 40 minutes but if I was already in the core on say, a Wednesday afternoon, I would stop in.

Best breakfast place. One of the best places for a great breakfast. Also, I'm not sure what they put in those potatoes.... It's the best I've ever had!

Best breakfast in the city. Try the Calgary sandwich with extra stuff. With bottomless hash browns, take 1/2 home for a great lunch!

Hands down, best food in the city. The staff is awesome. The line up is worth it. And the hash browns.....anyone who has tried them knows the almighty power of their deliciousness.

I was pleasently surprised! My only complaint would be that the descriptions on the menu were a little vauge. Stuffed French toast to me would have been stuffed with a cream cheese or whipped cream style filling, not cherries from a can, but none the less, realitivly yummy. Pretty good food, at a pretty fair price. Definitely loved the atmosphere!
Portion size is pretty decent too!
Would I eat there again? For sure!

Decided to give this place a try after reading some decent reviews. We weren't disappointed. Sure, it's a bit on the pricey side for breakfast but I've paid a lot more for a lot worse. I had the scramwich and enjoyed it very much. My husband had the Montreal smoked meat hash which he loved. The portions were a decent size and those hash browns are good (even though I'd say they were more like home fries). Either way, we loved it so much we're going back tomorrow - I just hope there isn't a long line...

Nothing special. nothing joe cant make.... Eh. nothing special about the food here. i much rather go to oeb or cora for breakfast. the eggs bene i had was good, but definately not the best. small little place, had to wait a little bit. if i were to wait, like i said id choose oeb anyday.

The service and novelty of the place are fantastic. Other than that, there's absolutely nothing exceptional about the menu or food. Hash browns are this place's bread and butter and so most of your breakfast plate is 2/3 potato (and not great ones). Other than that a standard breakfast comes with no meat and that's extra obviously. It's literally no different from the cafeteria breakfast I bought in college for $4, except that it costs 3 times as much. As far as lunch is concerned, there's too many other better places right down 17 for me to try this place again. With tip it's around $15 for a plate of hash browns and toast with a couple plain eggs and a puny sausage. Not worth it for me.

I used to love coming here because it was affordable. The food and atmosphere is super but I wish it wasn't 15-16 $ for eggs Benny!

Best Breakfast in Calgary. I love food, and I really love breakfast. My wife and I have stopped at most breakfast spots in Calgary in search of the best breakfast. I have to admit there some fine places in Calgary, but I have to say that Galaxie Diner is our fav. The service is always great, the food is always consistent, and we are always out the door within 30 mins of arriving. The coffee is always really good too! I love the Corned Beef Hash, my wife is a Cody's scramble kinda girl... always altering her decision on bacon, sausage or veggie. That's not to exclude the awesome choices of benedict... Could you win my heart any quicker than throwing it on a croissant? I don't care what anyone says... the hash browns are fantastic... seasoned just enough and if you are lucky there is a chance that you end up with the crispy scoop... awesome. I am a sucker for a side of Bacon here because they smoke it just right... There are not a lot of places that do so in Calgary.

I have to put emphasis on how great the staff is here. I have never had a bad experience, and they are always friendly and fast. I always have to thank the guys behind the grill for feeding me so well.

I know that there are long line up at times, and that it is not a very large place... But this diner rocks!

The food was as awesome as always and the waiter looked exactly like Chuck the astronaut from the movie "Planet 51". He was an excellent waiter as always.
Honest Reviews
Always a line up. More due to lack of space inside. Service is friendly and quick. But is it anything special? Not really, its not bad but considering the hype it did not live up. Hashbrowns are unseasoned and everything is pretty plane Jane. There are better places to go. 5.5/10

Best Diner in Calgary. Best place in Calgary diner-wise ....hash browns are amazing...Been a fan for over a decade...still love it...

Interesting hidden spot. Well hidden along 11st, i dont think i would of known to stop by to eat here if it wasn't because of a friend recommendation. but good burgers and milkshake, definitely a place that can easily be missed.

Great food, ok service. It was my first visit here last weekend. I didn't know what to expect, but most of the reviews that I had read spoke good things about this place, and I love brunch, so I decided to give this place a go. When I first walked in, did I realize just how small the place was, and it was super busy too with every seat taken up. I was excited, because a busy brunch place generally is very promising. However, I was quickly turned off as I was neither greeted nor asked for how many. None of the workers made eye contact with me or even bothered to tell me that they were busy and that the wait for the next table shouldn't be too long. Waiting for the next table to be freed up didn't take too long, around 10 mins, but after the table was cleaned up, the hostess/server gestured me over to the table and asked "just for 2?" We ordered quickly: the omlette of choice with everything, smoked pacific salmon eggs benedict, a cup of coffee, and a cup of hot water. The food came just as quick as we ordered and was delivered by the cook rather than our hostess/server. The food was amazing and was probably what saved my impression of the place. The salmon eggs benedict was served on a crossaint which is different from most other places' benedict and surprisingly complimented each other very well. The omlette's filling was very generous and is probably the best omlette I've ever had. We were offered refills of our beverages once. Overall, I would go back for the food, but the service definitely needs improvement. I understand if you're busy, but at least acknowledge your customers that walk thru the door so as to let them know you're aware of their existence.

Meh. Nothing good, nothing bad. If you want some food but you don't want fast food or chain food places, then pop in here for a bite. I thought it would be a great little diner, but it was a one dimensional experience. The food was tasty but nothing I couldn't have knocked-up myself in a matter of minutes. I'm not a coffee drinker, but my friend who are said the coffee was excellent!

Love Galaxie& Belmont. The food and employees are always an A +, if you manage to avoid the thin blonde with authentic old school attitude... it will be an amazing experience.
Alex
Great foos in a nice atmosphere. Menu is identical to the belmont diner in marda loop. Just a bit overpriced but worth it. Great greasy spoon! The Calgary sandwich is delicious.

If Vinnie Chase went there while he was in town and loved it. I'm sure it's pretty good then. I hear the milkshakes are awesome.

Good, But Nothing Outstanding. It was my first time to the Galaxie Diner last week. The service was excellent, the food was good and the coffee, not so good. I ordered the french toast with hash browns and bacon. I received two nicely done pieces of french toast, five perfectly cooked pieces of bacon and a slug of hash browns. My husband ordered the eggs benedict and said it was a nice change to have it on a croissant and the sauce was among the top he has had. So what was missing? I'm not sure, maybe the diner is just not my style. If you are looking for just a good old fashion breakfast, then you have found the place. If you are a gourmand looking for exciting new breakfast cuisine, then not the place for you.

Had me at botttomless Hashbrowns.. The staff was friendly, went early in the morning after reading too many good reviews. Good atmosphere, great staff and perfectly cooked breakfast!

Likes It. Very good, prefer the food here compared to a sister location, although both are awesome for basic diner fare.
The staff is very friendly, the gentleman who served me was attentive, even if it was before 8am on a Saturday morning. Quiet that time of day, go when it's not prime brunch time.
I had the omlette of choice, added cheese, mushrooms and green onions - delicious. I wish they had avocado, but still pretty good.
Hash-browns could be crispier but these ones are better than the other place for some reason, though I enjoy both locations 100%.
Cody scramble is also a top fave. 2
eggs any style with toast is great for something not overly heavy (go easy on the h-browns!)
I will always go back here, it's a top fave.

Awesome!. My friend and I just went there for the first time and we loved it!. We both had the Calgary Sandwich, which is very filling and tasty. The milkshake was awesome, but we found the hashbrowns a little salty. Anyway, we had a nice experience and I would defenitely go back!

My Weekly Go. I go there once a week at least. The breakfast portion is so big everything I am sharing it and still wouldn't be able to finish it. I think a lot of people agrees that coffee is one of the greatest drink in adult life. And they have one of the tastier coffee in town. And the waitress is always very attentive of giving a 'warmer'. The only thing I would say about this place is, they should update their decor.
Lily
Best place ever!. This is my favourite place to eat in Calgary! Its very tiny and you have to wait in line but it is worth the wait!
Darryl
Food was good but.... The decor looks like it should be a 50's diner, but the cooks played loud music the whole time we were there. It was like university alternative radio. They brought me bacon instead of sausage, but fixed that by bringing me the right order and letting me have both. Sitting right by the cooking area/radio wasn't very relaxing. Overall the food was great.

A Hangover Staple. Great place the next morning (.....or afternoon) of a good night out. Tasty flat-top eats and some of the best chocolate shakes in town. That being said it's ALWAYS packed on Saturdays and Sundays. Be prepared to wait.
Dedicated Diner
Amazing. I went here for my birthday brunch and ordered the Scramwich. It came with endless hash brown which were very tasty. I love the diner atmosphere and found every thing so fresh!
Lola
So cool - it's like being on a movie set! Great service, good food, it's all good.

Went for a week day breakfast and was very happy with food, service, value. Omelette is one price with as many fillings as you want. Very good. Can't wait to come back for Smoked Meat Hash or to try lunch.

Cool place to eat. A real throwback! Coffee was excellent. The Hash Browns - I can see why there is free refills. Not so good.

Love love love!. I love Galaxie Diner! The food always comes out so fresh and so fast! the flavors are amazing. Also, since I have eaten there, I have noticed what else this cute strip has to offer (amazing pizza, amazing smoked meat, local chocolate store) Will def. go again. I would also like to attempt to eat outside, but its always so busy..
