Review Red's On 4th - Calgary

Alhan Yaz
Here on a Monday for some brunch and it was busier than usual for a weekday but still great service. Lots of room to sit but on the weekends they do get very busy so come early. Great food and friendly service. Clean restaurant and really cool country meets modern day theme.

Great quality food and service. I love that there's hot sauce, ketchup, salt and pepper at every table. The restaurant has one accessible washroom on the main floor and gendered washrooms down a flight of stairs. The restaurant entrance may not be wheelchair accessible because it has one step before the door.

It’s been a minute since we’ve visited Red’s for brunch, and like always, the service was wonderful. The Pacific Benny (my fave) never disappoints. They serve all day breakfast and have many locations through the city.

This is one of my favourite breakfast places I've ever been to; it reminds me of simpler times and the importance of slowing life down just a little bit. Thank you so much for your hospitality and the fantastic all-day breakfast. Edit: I updated my review to add another star. I have recently been reminded of how much I miss this place. Red's is heads and shoulders above a lot of the other places.

Great weekend brunch spot! They really have their system on lock, we showed up at 11 on a Saturday and there was a table available. After we ordered food came out right away and our server never let our coffee cups get empty. They definitely turn over fast, which is great as you likely never have to wait even at super busy times. Because of that I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for something more leisurely, but I like to be in and out quick at breakfast so I appreciate the speediness! Montreal smoked meat hash is amazing, a little pricey but I ended up taking most of it home so definitely great value for two days of food! Husband got the brie and bacon benny, which he said was also good but he wished it had more brie. But hey, cheese prices are stupid rn so it made sense. Hashbrowns and hollandaise were really good too. they have Valentina and Frank's on the tables so you get your pick of hot sauces. Will be going back!

Great food, outstanding service! The restaurant is a nice down home feel atmosphere. The staff is friendly, personable and attentive. You have to eat here, you won’t be disappointed! 😁

Will be back again, be warned they get pretty busy on Sunday mornings, but they always have such great and friendly service. Drinks and food are worth the slightly more pricey cost. All around great diner for a solid feed of breakfast that won't disappoint!!
Niranjan Molkeri
Nice diner. Huge portions. Chai latte was amazing. Good and quick service.
Monobun
Had a gluten free burger for lunch here with hashbrowns & a london fog. The mugs are really cute! The food was better than I expected since I don't really go to breakfast places all that often. The hashbrowns had a great onion flavour to them, and the gluten free bun on the burger wasn't dry at all, it was great. The staff were enthusiastic and friendly. I gave it a 3/5 because I would have liked more spice and flavour in the burger but other than that I would come here again.
Chardon_juggernaut
I had the bacon and blue cheese burger with hashbrowns. Hashbrowns were decently cooked but very greasy. Burger was underwhelming. The gravy that my friend had was delicious! Her philly special was a dollar more at $17 and had loads of food. There are better places to eat at in Kensington
Yumyums
Have been here for breakfast on a few occasions. Food is underwhelming, especially for the prices. Definitely not worth lining up for on the weekends.
Paddy O'Lanterns
Sunday brunch at Red's - great atmosphere, try sitting at the old-school counter and making a new friend! I had the pulled pork bennie and coffee, not cheap but absolutely worth it! I will 100% be back again!

Came here once for brunch with my friends, and I must say it's a nice place to go to. I thought the food was pretty good, mostly because I was craving breakfast food. Left satisfied.
Catherine
Very busy, very noisy, but very energetic as well. Our waitress was very hospitable with great smile! I ordered Montreal smoked meat hash, very good and I really enjoyed it. My hubby ordered the omelette with apple inside, which tasted so so though. But we will go back there again. Already know what I am going to try next time - blueberry French toast!

My friends and I came here during the lilac festival, but surprisingly the wait wasn't as long as we had expected. I ordered their special for breakfast, which was a chorizo wrap. The wrap was very greasy but it was still alright. My friends and I were not fans of the hashbrowns. They were undercooked and not as crispy as we would've preferred. Also the seasoning wasn't our favourite. Nonetheless, the service here was great. We were constantly checked on by various servers even though they were busy.
Mr Jimmy
Up early today, can't do brunch on the weekend until October, working weekends, so decided to come here for some Eggs Benny. . . perfect and no line up at this time in the morning. I will utilize this option until I can resume my usual favorite of Brunch. I try to come here early as i just do NOT do line ups, this place is so popular that there is almost always a wait.
Luke
Probably my favourite breakfast place in the city. They have a great menu - last thing I had was a breakfast sandwich and it was awesome. The pancakes are very good as well.
Christina Marie Dodds
Me and one of my girlfriends came here for a late lunch today, and she's been here quite a few times but this was my first time here, and I'll say it was probably one of the best breakfast food places in Calgary I've been (I'm normally not huge on breakfast foods for lunch/ dinner). This did not disappoint though. For $17 it was a tiny bit pricy but I would for sure come here again! If you're in the area stop by and give them a shot.
Catvsfood
Good breakfast... just on the ore salty side of things.
The suave on the Eggs Benedict too salty. But will try other items if convenient again
Jonny
Another super popular brunch/all day breakfast institute that I’ve heard good things about. They have two other locations (Kensington and Ramsay). We decided to check them out on a Saturday morning. Pro tip: download the No Wait app (second time I’ve used it since OEB). Seriously, the best thing ever. We were 16th in line but only had to wait 30 minutes from start to finish. Not bad.

Love Love having a great breakfast place in the community, great service.Feb 4,Pancakes thin as paper, tasted like
grill was dirty.Soggy toast, over hard were runny, presentation was crammed soggy potatoes. French toast burnt $96.00/4 not worth it this time.New people in kitchen??????Been coming there weekly and bringing out of towners since opened. Really disappointed.
Hypsochromic
Busy! Excellent service! Got the blueberry basil goat cheese stuffed French toast. Yum. Good vibes. Tried the hash on another plate, could be crisper.
Hungry Hungry Hippos
The service was fantastic and I loved the decor. The food was very yummy. I tried the French toast. It was perfection. I also tried the red's potatoes and they were delicious. I would recommend this spot!
Big_Spoon
I've been wanting to come here for a long time, and maybe I hyped this place up too much, but I didn't think they delivered anything above average. Reasonable food, reasonable service but pretty pricey for what you get. I probably won't be back.
Noor B
Super cute diner with great customer service! Went with friends around noon and were seated almost immediately! (Although we noticed the wait room had no space to really stand) Downside are the prices!!!! $$$ I ended up ordering the Pacific Benny (salmon Benny) which was priced at $17.50! although we did receive a nice portion, I don't believe the food was particular amazing for it to be worth my money. I think it's a nice place to try out but I definitely won't be going back because there are other brunch places with much more reasonable prices and with the same or better taste!
@jke553
A long wait to get in, and nowhere actually to wait other than outside on the street, which sucked on a rainy day (they do have a list though for waiting). They offer coffee while you're waiting, but unfortunately the self serve carafe and cream was empty, and the servers were so busy.
The menu seem to have a lot of good choices, I don't remember it being the best value though price wise. Very tasty.
Stew Burner
Have been coming to Reds for years, I have always enjoyed it, I usualy have one of the Bennys which are usualy pretty good, its been consistant over the years, I wouldnt say its screaming great.. but it is a nice place to visit once in a while, the potatoes are good, the coffee is fair .
Julie Fang
Not sure why the lineup is so crazy for this place. Food is not exceptional by any means. Just ordinary breakfast food that you would probably make at home.
Tkoshy
Decent breakfast offerings bit it's a little pricey for what you get. Recommend ordering there apple juice. It's good but get a large as a medium is really small and the price difference isn't much ($4 versus $5)
Ashley Miller
There's a reason why there is always a line up for their brunch, it's amazing! The decor has a great vintage flare and their staff are fantastic. I've tried several items on their menu and have loved every single one!
AES
Love their stuffed bluberry french toast and short rib eggs bennie. Addicted for life. Service is subpar but always come back for the amazing food.
Beer Lover
For food and atmosphere this place gets an emphatic thumbs up but for the price it had better be good. Between us we ordered the Classic Omelette and the Mediterranean Wrap with 2 coffees and came away with a $46 bill (inclusive of tip). Now both were really good and the omelette (3 eggs) was jammed with fresh ingredients. But $16 for an omelette?!? So when you have the Galaxy and Belmont competing in the same hipster diner category with equally good food at way better value why would you choose this place? Maybe you found $50 in your couch and live close to Red's and can't be bothered to take the 5 minute drive over to Galaxy.Real O.G
Lanre Rahman II
One of my good to spots for a great breakfast. I go on the weekends and its usually a 45 minute and up wait but the food is worth it. Definitely recommend going.
Boccincini Babe
Seriously enjoy returning to Red's time after time to find consistency of great food and service. Their scrambles are the largest portions I've seen in town! The Montreal smoked meat one is my favourite, although I can't complain about any of the other menu items I've tried.

It's a busy, bustling joint, especially on weekend mornings, but Red's does a great job of taking down names and sending a text when your table is about to be ready. It's nice to be able to browse the neighbourhood while waiting, but Red's does come and offer coffee to those waiting in line.

I'll. Be. Back.
Christopher Staley
My favourite breakfast/brunch place in Calgary. Their eggs benedict dishes are fantastic and they really have their hollandaise recipe down perfect - very tasty.

You'll have the odd occasion where you'll get mediocre service or inconsistent food quality, but luckily that's few and far between.

Highly recommended.
Judy In The Sky
This is my favorite place in Calgary for breakfast...anytime of the day. Basic food served by pleasant staff. Great presentation and never greasy! Good coffee and your cup is kept full. Try the sourdough cheese toast, it is worth the trip on its own, Gluten free is handled well with a number of good options.
SM
Arrived at about 3:00pm on a Saturday and got a table for one right away. Menu had lots of tasty options once I got it. Service was so-so, took a few minutes to acknowledge me, bring me a menu and take my drink order even though they weren't very busy. Still, the servers were very friendly. The short rib hash was a good size with eggs cooked just right. Not much spice/flavor though. Nobody asked if I wanted a coffee refill until the very end when I was paying my bill and the server asked if I wanted a coffee in a cup to-go. All in all a mediocre experience. Maybe I will try their other location next time.
Jamie LeMessurier Schroeder
The decor alone made me love it. The service was great. Plus, it had the thing that I love the most, a menu where I wanted to try virtually everything. I decided on the Mediterranean wrap, with Red’s potatoes. Both were seasoned to perfection. Bestie has the Blueberry, Basil and Goat Cheese stuffed French Toast. A delicious, breakfast, lunch, or brunch no matter when you choose it. The person next to us ordered the grilled cheese, and I will just tell you I had food envy when I saw it. It looked amazing, and I will certainly be getting the next time. All in all, this is a great little place.
Lindsay Powell
I have always had a positive experience at Red's. The servers are always lovely and the food is great. The Pacific Eggs Benny I had this time was lovely and with the poached eggs perfectly done (big points for me). This place is really well know, so expect a wait when you arrive (arrived be sure to grab some of the coffee arrived the front door while you wait).
Eatrundesign
Ah, how I love the weekend…After my cardio class this morning, it was a decision between catching the 1pm yoga class or brunch at Red's.. Red's won. Today we were craving a nice hearty breakfast, so we headed over to Mission to a place I've been wanting
Joshgearey
I'm seriously impressed.. It's lilac fest right outside, they're getting ROCKED. Food going out is perfect. I mean perfect, and they're getting me drunk. This place is awesome.
Doug J
Great eggs Bennie. Braised beef short rib Bennie was awesome. Relaxed vibe and very friendly staff (Amanda was super nice). Will be back!
Cathy Lin
Red's diner is just a regular diner that serves big portion, mediocre food. Its atmosphere made more of an impression on me than the food...
Theresa
Although I had heard great things about Red’s diner, neither of us had ever paid it a visit. Literally a 5 minute walk from our condo, it seemed a little ridiculous that this was our first time...We cleared our plates and were left pleasantly stuffed. The perfect feeling for a sleepy Saturday afternoon. Lazily, we headed out the door agreeing we would come back. The meals were hearty and delicious, and a great price to boot!
Neko
I love Red's on 4th. My husband and I come here all the time. I come for the atmosphere, the service and the food. It's one of the few breakfast restaurants that actually has a variety that I enjoy. So often I have a hard time choosing what I want, but I get over it and pick something.

I love the staff and go enough that I've had a chance to talk to them here and there. Red's has a very eclectic staff and I think that really adds to the atmosphere.

As long as Red's continues their happy uniqueness (and happy staff) I'll keep going.

All day breakfast! :D. We were looking for breakfast on a Monday afternoon and we found this place!
Staff were friendly but not overbearing and the restaurant was clean. The atmosphere was warm and lively. Coffee was prompt and delicious. I had the Prairie breakfast with sourdough cheese toast. The perogies were flavourful and came with a generous serving of sour cream. The big breakfast had a generous serving size - upgraded to the blueberry pancake which was large and moist.
The hash browns were mediocre. They were unevenly spiced, definitely not the highlight of the meal. The eggs (medium poached and over easy) were cooked exactly as ordered and balanced the dishes nicely.

We would visit again!
Allagrace663
Mediocre Food, Slow Service, Overpriced. I came into Red's Diner with high expectation but was very disappointed. The prices are exorbitant for what is quite frankly run of the mill breakfast food, $16 a plate for items such as two eggs with bacon or yogurt with granola. The food wasn't terribly flavourful, I had a tofu spinach tomato scramble which was quite bland and my boyfriend had the eggs benedict which included oversalted hashbrowns and tasteless hollandaise. After we had ordered our breakfast and waited for 20 minutes our server came over to inform us she had completely forgotten to enter the orders "but it has only been five minutes right?". We tried to be polite by saying that it had maybe been a bit longer than that, which earned us a glare and a "no I think it was five minutes but don't worry I will handle the coffee for you." Given that drip coffee is $2.50 a cup it was a stretch to pretend that this was compensation for the service, and she did not apologize at all. I would not say that this is a location I would rush back to, I think better value and better food can be found elsewhere.

Amazing!. Great staff and very nice cozy place!
Great eggs benny too!
Always busy so sometimes there is a bit of a wait but it's all worth it!!
Screech303
Smoked Meat Hash and Eggs. Montreal smoked meat hash with eggs is an incredibly tasty breakfast. It will fill you up and is a great morning after pleaser.
That Girl
A cute little place. Service was alright. Food was wayyyyy too saucy and over priced for what you get.
Gbarryevans
Breakfast Delight. The Montreal Smoked Meat Hash is a most flavorful treat for breakfast. This is a cozy little diner on the corner with that "Old Diner" style. Get there early to avoid having to stand in line.
YYC2014
One of my top breakfast/brunch joints in the city!. This place has always been busy no matter what hour I go in and I'm not surprised! The service is friendly, the coffee hot and the food is delicious!!! Their home made hollandaise sauce is to die for and keeps me wanting more! To keep is sweet and simple: this place is awesome! Fresh food and quality service!
Ris
Expensive and sub-par. I guess I should have listened to the mixed reviews. Had a craving for eggs benedict and settled on Red's since it was pretty close. The Pacific eggs benedict was bland and tasteless - to be fair the menu did indicate that it was poached salmon - but why not smoked salmon? The salmon was overcooked and tasteless. The 4th Street eggs benedict wasn't much better - good mix of veggies (spinach, tomato and artichokes) but also super bland. As if they didn't know how to use seasoning. And the hollandaise sauce wasn't strong enough to hide any of it. Potatoes were passable. Service was passable. Wouldn't go back. Pretty sure I've had better bennies at Jamiesons pub.
Vanessa.henri
Bah.. I had great expectations, but I found it overpriced for the quality of the food; you can't customize because all the extras are overpriced. Potatoes were okay - not amazing. Bread was ok; regular bread... the cheese bread would have been dry if it wasn't of the butter. No wifi; they have one but they refuse to share the password. Service was fast and okay.
AIMS
Breakfast. There's a lot of hype for this place imo. Wait time was expected because of the hype. Food was good but took some time to come out. The waitress was great though, super friendly and got our drinks fast and answered all of our silly questions with a smile. I'm sure I'd like this place if I had ordered something else (All I can remember is that I couldn't finish it).

Cool atmosphere too but it seems like a cool place to go to with friends to just chill out. Not really my cup of tea for eating breakfast. But you definitely get your bucks worth for the amount they give you.
Richa
Breakfast restaurant. Beautiful decor, great location, super staff,,, but beware, if you don't like grease, don't order their so called hash browns.. to have everything so almost perfect and then serve these grease laden potatoes, what an embarrassment, why can't they get that part right?? take a trip to the U.S. and see what breakfast hash browns should be.... won't be going back!
The Unknown Critic
As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for 20 plus years I found this place to be below par.
First off we waited for a long time for our breakfast on a Wednesday at 10. When it arrives it is cold. The eggs are over hard instead of over medium. The bacon looks like the pigs foreskin, and the pancake was over done. The hash browns were in a puddle of oil on the plate which was already solidifying. For 16$ I deserve it done right and hot. The sausage was burnt and cold. This place should be embarrassed and the clientele that raves about it is the same clientele that makes the ship and anchor stay open. I should have complained but I didn't want to wait another 1/2 hr for a new plate. Needless to say we will not go back and I will not be recommending it to anyone.
Peri
Pretty good food... But you will need time if you are going to come here. Service is pretty slow.
CTijani
I went here today and experienced rude service. I asked the server if the perogies came with sour cream or if it was an extra charge and she didn't even know. She asked the cook and the cook gave a rude response. Took forever to get my food as well. I won't come back again and they treat customers like crap service= 0
Jillian
Disappointing food and service. I ordered the smoked salmon Benny with capers and onions poached medium and received baked salmon bits no capers, and potatoes that were half cooked. Our server spent most of her time socializing with her co-workers and drinking a soda versus ensuring that our food was satisfactory and bringing us our bill in a timely fashion. Been to the location in Ramsey a number of times without incident, but I won't be coming back here...
Jocelyn.ahn
Worst customer service i have ever received. I asked for a table of 3, but received a table of 2.
So we were asked to wait a bit longer as we can't sit for the table of 2 for 3 people.
Then, our friend was late, and we have been told we can't sit unless our other friend joins us.
This is the most lamest rules for a restaurant.
Comlou
DISAPPOINTED. Went for lunch on thurs. Took 30 mins to get food. B/fast sandwich. Toast was burnt. Came with ham instead of bacon. Big tough ends of tomato. Hash browns extremely salty. Co-diners...had fries instead of hash browns, and they were so hard and re-fried could not eat them NOT going back anytime soon.!
Khrev
Good breakfast!. My boyfriend and I went to check this place last Sunday for the first time. There was a wait, which was fine, it was a nice sunny day so waiting outside wasn't a big deal. After we were seated the service was very fast and the server was so friendly. He got an omelet which was amazing, and I got the benny - which could have been better. It was really good, however, it was cold. I would recommend this place, but just try to go when they aren't so busy so your food isn't cold when you get it!
Deb3443
Love Red's. My favourite breakfast place. The food and coffee is always excellent. It's true on the weekends there is usually a wait, but the staff is very kind and brings coffee or just go in and ask and they will get you one. I never mind the wait, you just need to be prepared for it. I love the atmosphere as well and the staff is excellent. Great!!
Mseee
Worst`. First time Ive been there. Went on the weekend, had to wait for seating and extra long wait for meal so my anticipation of my meal was very high. I got the crepe florentine and I was literally the worst "meal" I've had for breakfast for that price especially. First of all it was halfway filled and the other half just a limp crepe. The filling was ham with hardly any spinach or cheese. All I could taste was ham nothing else. Service was friendly. But our waitress was WAY TOO friendly to the point where it was very annoying. We sat at the bar and she was talking insanely loud and laughing like a crazy person with the ppl beside us. When we tried to say something about the crepe, she ignored it completely and brushed it off. Will never come again. Terrible experience.
Jennifer M Virtue
Great food. A little bit expensive for a breakfast diner, but the location is convenient. The atmosphere is quite cozy, and it is often quite busy, especially on the weekends. You will usually be waiting for a table at peak hours.
Beegirl54
Great selection and yummy food!. Went here with my bf and friend today for brunch. I had the smoked meat hash and eggs. It was delicious and I could not finish the plate. Only complaint being the home fries were overcooked. My friend, who rarely eats meat, was impressed with the amount of options on the menu that would cater to her. I tried her Caprese Benedict and I would definitely order it for myself. My bf got the Big Breakfast and hit the spot for his seemingly bottomless stomach. It was a Friday afternoon and not that busy so service was efficient. Will be back for sure.
Miguel Migs
Best Breakfast in town. Me and my GF always come here. It is one of the best places in town. Good service (usually) and good food. Right price for servings. When something goes wrong and we tell our server they take it off the bill or take care of it all together. Mistakes happen but it is how you handle those mistakes that matter. Favorite by far!
Mia J
Worst breakfast I have even had. The pacific benny smelled fishy...it was very expensive canned salmon
Ag
Big Breakfast. Always get the big breakfast at Red's! Although I think the quality of the food has gone down a little (maybe cutting costs on food) I will continue to go there. The servers are always charming and it has a good atmosphere.
Foodstar
Average Food and Service at Reds in Ramsay. Visited here mid weekday afternoon. Not really busy. Ordered BLT and eggs benny. The sandwich came with potatoe bacon soup. Really salty, had to add water to it. The sandwich was hard to eat as it was toasted too dry. This is one of the cheapest items on the menu which would probably explain why it was so small. The benny was done well. The hashbrowns were also way too salty. Our waitress seemed scattered and uninterested, forgetting to bring condiments and water. Also, if you sit in booths on North wall, there is a cold draft coming thru the seats. Wonder what happens when it gets really cold. Not really a place you want revisit.
Sally
Cold food. This place was a disappointment. Décor is lovely but they need to pay attention to the food. The portion is not worth the price & the food we received was cold. Felt ripped off.
Gypsywanderers
Pretentious, rude and expensive. So I had the worst experience at this diner this morning. I had my name on the list for a party of two for quite some time. When my table finally came up my friend had run home which was a block away. They would not seat me because my whole party wasn't there even though she would just be 5 minutes. By the time she came back two tables had been taken in front of us and now we had to wait even longer. We helped ourselves to what we thought was complimentary coffee and waited outside. Good thing it wasn't -20 yet. We were finally seated and when we asked to maybe have something exchanged on the menu they said no and were rude. I looked at the table beside us and the food looked disgusting. We decided to cancel our order and leave so we asked for the bill to pay for the pop and found that the complimentary coffee wasn't even so complimentary. Worst place ever!
Exercisetoeat
Had the ranchers wrap. Pretty tasty, but expensive for what you get. I swapped potatoes for fruit (had to pay full price for the fruit :( ) and found the fruit was really sweet - like they soaked the melon and pineapple in their juices or something. Didn't like. Salsa was great and cappuccino was great. Would be willing to give this place another shot, but Dairy Lane definitely makes a better bfast wrap for less.
Josie McMillan
Have been here a couple times, ordered the Egg's Benny and it was delicious. Thought I'd be healthy the second time and order the quinoa, and it was very dry and unappetizing. It could definitely use some fruit. I'll stick to the eggs benny next time.
Pippa Murphy
My favorite breakfast place in cal, the food is fantastic and consistently so. Recommended the margarita omelette, the veggie burger and they do a cracking Benny. The best part of reds is the service, everyone is so nice and extremely efficient. Can be a little wait to get in but definitely worth it. See you Sunday reds!
Oplap
Really?. Did I go to the same place as the people who wrote good reviews? Food was not good at Red's. Hashbrowns were orange in colour, slippery and greasy. The whites of eggs were not fully cooked. Tea was not good. Honestly, nothing was good. Go to OEB or Blue Star Diner if you want to eat delicious fresh breakfast in a clean place.
Brenda
We went to reds diner today based on reviews. went there this mourning. it was busy which is a good sign ..

stood at the door for 5min with no acknowedgement. just completely ignored

thats vety bad for busniss

sorry u lost us
J-Mill
Happy to live so close!. Live two blocks away. Wish I had tried more of the menu to be honest but the once a month I go I keep going back to the 4th St Benny. So darn good. Thanks very much.
Melissa Roblin
Great place. Food and service was great.
I do not like pancakes but had a craving, perhaps because Stampede week, and was the best pancake I ever had.
I would definitely go back.
And bonus they serve you coffee outside if you are waiting in line.
Lees
AWESOME!. The wait staff here is really attentive and awesome!
Best pancakes I have ever had!
Doug
What a great little spot. Very reasonable prices, food was very good, as was the service. Reds is cozy and warm, but avoid the tables close to the door on a cold day!!
Vanessa Bartosek
Amazingly good food fantastic friendly staff

There was one waitress working when I went to Red's Diner and she was running around between serving guests and seating people. She didn't come back to refill our coffees and checked up on us maybe once throughout the whole time we were there but on the plus side the French Toast I ordered were delicious! And HUGE! You had the choice of getting fruit compote or maple syrup but I got both and it was very tasty.
Myoffice
Red's Diner. We went in on a recommendation and was impressed. Great food moderately priced . Great service and FAST. Great place to be and can't wait to try the second location due to open soon
Susan Graham Tam
Perogies for Breakfast!. We are always looking for new places to try and were very pleased to try Red's. There was a bit of a line up but we were seated within ten minutes easily. I ordered the prairie breakfast meal - homemade perogies with kolbassa. The perogies were excellent and would make a great meal all by themselves. I throughly enjoyed the whole breakfast, personally the only thing I would change is have the potatoes cooked a bit more. My husband had the blueberry buckwheat pancakes - another excellent choice! We will be back to try other dishes and meals.
NomNom
Nope. Over-priced for food portion size. Will not go back. Ever. Bitchy service, too.
Petre
Great Food Great Prices. Have gone there for a couple of years, always good food the service is great and freindly, always enjoy it, have had all the Bennys, the Prime rib hash and the Red Qinoua, all very good,we visit every second weekend and see no reason to stop
Mortaloser
Great potatoes. Went here with a friend looking for hangover breakfast and found this place on our walk.
I order the eggs benedict, just the regular one. I felt a little worried about the benedict sauce, this one was very lemony and slightly sweet, which I thought was weird but worked amazingly. I would definitely come back after trying all the great breakfast places in Calgary.
C.Logan
Never fails to please. Always busy here. tables are first come first serve, so expect to wait a little bit. service can range a little bit at this place. This time my waitress really sucked, shes lucky the food made up for it. Great food. Try the pacific salmon benedict, it is amazing. They usually have specials of the day as well, those are usually something worthwhile to check out.
James Barry
Terrible service & too expensive. I'm sure there are better servers there, but ours was a complete b*tch. Excuse the language, I can't think of a better way to put it. I don't use that term loosely either.

The food was ok, nothing special.

I ordered the prairie breakfast special (on their website it says "2 Eggs your way with Homemade Potato Cheddar Perogies, Rocky's Kielbasa, and Sour Cream".) They've updated it on their menu to include hash browns.

It came with 3 perogies, and the sausage was cut short (basically in half) as well. Then they piled on the hash browns to compensate.

Incredible.. Breakfast is my thing. I've dined at absolutely every breakfast joint large and small in Calgary. Reds diner, though experiencing growing pains at first is the best in town! The servers are all sassy wonderful tattooed women who tend to the needs of the regulars like nannies, listening to life stories and remembering names of children, when they have time. it's a wonderful atmosphere to be in. The food is incredible furthermore, anyone stating it is bland obviously must not have been there in the last year. Everything that can possibly be is sourced locally and as fresh as possible. The owner of reds promotes local businesses and job opportunities and is a great local opportunist for the community. Everytime I go I sit at the bar, I learn more about the people that work at Reds and even have made some very interesting friends. There's a reason it's always lined up, and both kitchen staff and serving staff work their butts off and it shows!

I truly believe the negative reviews are bologna, you are missing out if you don't give this great little place a try.

This is a diner with great things in it's future, anyone who walked away from it missed out on great music and culture and friends.

I enjoy it there.. These guys are fun to be around. Been there for 2 years.

Terrible service. Small line up 2 parties before us and were basically told "don't have a table for you, please close the door." wow! I was stunned and my two young daughters couldn't believe we had been spoken to so rudely. Pretty bad when kids have more common sense than someone who is supposed to be in the "service" industry. Sorry Reds -- your food is mediocre at best and after this experience, we won't be coming back.

Wrong Phone Number For Red's On Here!. Haven' actually been there yet, but from the reviews on another site, I probably wouldn't go! I do like however that they have veggie burgers there and quinoa, and I'm vegan, so I might try it! Just wanted to say that I called the phone number given on the write up and got an information line to get phone numbers from which I wasn't aware existed! However, I didn't give them the name of the restaurant as most of these services charge to give you a phone number!

Eggs Benedict: A Traitor in Our Midst. Breakfast - A beautiful symphony of harmonious flavours, it awakens the palate in the ungodly hour known as morning. We frequently consume caffeinated beverages, expressing no affinity for the complexity breakfast food has to offer. I accepted the obscure, uncommon avenue this time. I decided to have breakfast in a diner.

I am a devoted connoisseur of eggs Benedict - it is my absolute favourite dish. Dare it be discovered in the menu, it will be ordered by my anticipating stomach. You could suggest a five star culinary masterpiece until the end of time - it will ultimately be refused in favour of this decadent morsel. Eggs Benedict is definitely not a 'grey area' food; prepared properly, it can be considered a king of egg dishes - prepared poorly, and it will leave you embittered against it for eternity. I am not afraid to hypothesize this theory - regardless of the risk, it will be eaten...and reviewed.

I had the traditional style of eggs Benedict (i.e. poached eggs, Hollandaise, back bacon, and English muffin). Ironically, it is called 'The Traditional' at Red's Diner. Alas, how tradition has disappointed - and here is why:

You may be aware that Hollandaise sauce is an emulsion - it is a blend of immiscible liquids. Fat, oil, and protein do not like to cooperate - if you have created this sauce, you know how dangerous mixing egg yolks and butter can be. Hollandaise requires low heat and a gentle touch - it needs to be constantly blended, or else it risks the possibility of separating. Guess what happened? It separated. It became pure, liquified butter in addition to a high viscosity residue of lord knows what. The sugar and lemon flair had been eradicated. It was absolutely disgusting. I slap a score of 0 on this sauce. Believe it or not, it is not the worst sauce. Yes...there is a Hollandaise worse than this. It received a score of -5. It was quite frightening.

I should also mention that the English muffin was too soft - it had not been toasted, or even warmed. This adds insult to the main components of the dish, because without a crisp base it absorbs liquid like a dry sponge. I do give congratulations to the back bacon, however - it was very flavourful, juicy and crisped nicely on the outside. The eggs were very nicely poached. It was cooked via a traditional method (without a poacher). The exclusion of vinegar was another bonus.

The atmosphere is quite enjoyable. It is quaint, albeit loud. The décor is not tawdry - it is trendy and modern. The customer service is quite impressive - polite staff, fairly quick service...it does have its merits in this category.

I may return to Red's Diner, though it may be for something of more...eggs-cellent taste ;)

Will not be back. Food was cold and undercooked, was there for breakfast with a few friends, and the server reluctantly greeted us at our tables 15 minutes after we sat down. She said she will be serving us, but another server came by to order our food, and another person to drop off drinks. hard to distinguish who exactly was our server. Lousy service, lack of organization.

Long wait times. Horrible Service! Let alone the fact they were understaffed, they told people that there was no more room for today, and asked them to come back next time. Although it was full, but I certainly felt that the staff was not approachable, my steak sandwhich was way overdone. The server tells me sometimes its hard to get the steak to the proper temperature, and just took the plate away. Lousy level of customer service;

Terrible food but great service.. I have to say that our server was great here, as was the coffee but the food was unbelievably awful!
My order of crepes tasted like they were freezer burnt, and the fruit filling was melons! Yuck! If you put melons, mushy ones at that, into a warm crepe it will draw out the water, and it did. It was inedible. My friends tofu scramble was bad as well, it looked like they had just dumped uncooked tofu cubes and canned peppers onto a plate and served it. Horrible.
Our server did take everything off the bill and was very pleasant about it, something which is becoming rare in this city. Kudos to her!

Went for breakfast. Had to stand out in the cold waiting as there is no room in the foyer. Ordered the ranchero wrap. It was bland, the scrambled eggs inside were overlooked. The potatoes on the side were terrible. Not crispy, more mushy. Overall disappointing.

Wafflehouse Blues. Nice place, shame about the service… and the food. Ate here a while ago and was sadly disappointed in the slow service. I'm taking about a 55 minute wait for a simple breakfast order. Once the order arrived I worried my way through cold soggy waffles, went home and made myself lunch. there are many other great breakfast and lunch places with far superior food and service than this one.

I want to like it but I can't. This place is cute at first glance and the menu looks pretty good - but the food is always so salty. I've been there 3 times wanting to like it but every time I end up leaving disappointed.

Used to be much better.... 1 out 5 star. My gf and I went there today because we haven't been there for quite a while. The food were great back then when they just opened....

Today, we waited about 45 mins for the food to arrive after we ordered (This place is always slow, but today was extra slow...)., After we got the food (classic two eggs and orange crepe), we were not impressed by the food they cooked. The crepe was really dry, tasted like pancake and the hash brown was really bad compared to their red potatoes before. The sausage was over cooked, hard, and small.

Nontheless, the service was not good as well, after we got our bill, I didn't notice that she charged extra $5.50 for two coffees we did not even order. It's good that I figured out that right after I paid the bill. Then, I came back to get my money back, the waitress did not even say sorry.....

Anyway, it was a total disaster for us, I would not recommend this place if u r looking for a nice restaurant for Sunday Brunch..... We will not go back again.
