Best Ice cream I ever had in Canada! I will be visiting this location very often in the future. The store is super clean and well kept, makes you feel very comfortable that they maintain and keep with with the Covid regulations even though alot of places are seem a bit relaxed at the current time! What impressed me the most were Liz and Eddie working tonight when I went in. Their knowledge on the products and flavours were so helpful in helping me decide what to get! Great managed store with this two working and all the customers in the store were super happy! Great vibes and even greater quality of ice cream, the selection is crazy and so many vegan options! You will not be disappointed visiting this place! Thank you all lovely ladies for the excellent service.

Delicious ice cream made from scratch. Super nice staff. There wasn’t a single flavour I didn’t love. Especially big fan of the vegan chocolate one with chunks in it and the espresso pretzel toffee one. Truly one of the best places for ice cream worldwide!!!!

Wow. This place might possibly be the best ice cream I have tried in Canada. They have a great selection of unique flavours, including some seasonal flavours that are only available by month. Luckily, I happened to have a taste of the Marcona Almond & Ganache which is a June special; it was amazing. But don't worry about having to pick from all of the wonderful flavours, they let you sample some of the flavours beforehand to help you make an educated decision. Would also recommend the single large scoop (equivalent to 2 kid scoops) as you are able to get two flavours in each of the kid scoops.

I was here last month and we were a group of 5 people! We had gone around their closing time and it was the day new rules were implemented regarding masks and we were not aware of it! The girls in the counter we very polite and requested us to our wear masks! They suggested flavors which were fast selling and the ones they liked personally ( as it was our first time there) they gave us time until we decided on our choices! The pecan flavor was the best. Definitely will visit them again! P.S. there is always a huge line up and the girls working there are humans too and they need sometime to collect themselves before they move on to the next customer. Not everyone who goes in there are patient. I seriously think the girls there do an amazing job! Flavours 4/5 Ambience 4/5 Customer service 5/5 Pricing 5/5 ( I have been to various ice cream outlets and by far this was the cheapest I have had in Calgary) it was 3$ for a single scoop and the cone!

Tried two flavours the espresso flake and brown butter pecan. Had one scoop of each with a waffle cone on the side for only $6.50 which is pretty affordable for quality ice cream. The worker was very friendly and allowed us to try multiple flavours before choosing.

Taste quite good at sampling and first bite, but that's about it. Already too sweet even before eating half of a scoop. Marshmellow is well baked, but the ice cream is just mediocre. I intended to put 3.5 stars but Google doesn't allow have stars, so 3 stars here.

Luckily noone was there so we had time to sample some super unique flavoured ice cream! Service was awesome and ice cream was made with love...you can just taste the creative passion that goes into each flavour!

This location is small with no seating inside. There are benches outside of the parlour so if it's nice out, you can pop a squat in the sun. This location is very busy so there's often a wait. The ice cream itself if flavourful and some of their monthly specials are to die for. The God Father Sundae is one of those! The staff is friendly but they do rush you in and out because there are customers waiting so if this is your first time, look at the online menu and be ready to order. They allow dogs in the parlour and they'll even give them a little treat -so appreciated as a dog owner. Overall, 4/5 because of the lack of seating and rush.

Love love love it!! Try the seasonal every time. Unique and creative flavours. The classics are not to be missed either ( cookies and cream, roasted strawberry and buttermilk is the best strawberry ice cream you have ever had. My boyfriend and I go frequently and I always take visiting family and friends.

This place is a must visit if you're an ice cream lover and you're in Calgary. They have some pretty interesting flavours and the staff are more than willing to let you try each of them. My recommendation is that 1 scoop is more than enough 1 scoop = 2 normal scoops. If you don't want that much ice cream then go for a kids size, it would be enough I'm sure. They also have available some baked goods and toy can buy the ice cream in to go jars to take home (you get 1$ off when you bring the jars back). All in all, nice icecream place on 17th Ave to go visit.

The soft serve sundae (French kick) was super tasty and smooth I had to go back a second time before leaving Calgary to try their scooped ice cream (which was also super tasty, I had lemon curd blueberry and roasted strawberry buttermilk)

SO delicious! One of the best aspects however, is that they have options for my kids who are allergic to nuts, peanuts and dairy. That is so difficult to find in a quality ice cream place. Thanks very much for offering this :)
Valéria Kavaliauskis
Lovee the place, love the young, energetic polite staffs....leaving in the other side of tbe street my nights i like to see the size of the line up ....and i try a different flavor every week! Worth every time! Best ice cream in Calgary!

This was the best ice cream I’ve had! 5 of us had different flavours and they were all amazing. My dad had the salted caramel which was outstanding. Well done Marcus!
Valerie Lock
Was delicious but the unpleasant cashier made it not worth standing in line for.
Kevin Nelson
Lot of hype, kind of a let down. Be prepared to be in a few instagram stories while waiting in line.
Sarah Jalbuena
Felt totally comfortable as a Celiac to get my treat gluten free. Staff were very comfortable pointing options and taking extra precaution to make my dessert safe.

The Lemon curd ice cream was EPIC!!! Friendly service and great space! Can’t wait to go back 👍

Marcus is awesome! Best Ice Cream ever. He’s humble and kind and shared his story and work with our food studies students today. Proud of this Calgary success story.

My sister got the Rocky Road cake here for my birthday. It is the best thing I have ever tasted!!! I'll be back for more

Seriously the best ice cream I’ve ever had

While visiting Calgary from Toronto, I had heard of this place and decided to check it out. I was SO impressed that I ended up here two nights back to back. Line up is worth it. And it moves fast considering! I ended up ordering the Happy Camper, Unicorn, and a scoop of oatmeal cookie dough and all were absolutely delicious. Staff were extremely friendly and the prices weren't bad at all! I hope to stop by each time I come back! Thanks again!
Wendy Walker
Had the happy camper sundae and it was the best soft serve I've ever had. The toppings were so decadent and the toasted marshmallow was amazing!
Yyc_foodies123
The Unicorn at @madebymarcus. I'm always surprised with the massive lineups outside #MadebyMarcus... Even when it's freezing outside. The icecream is amazing but not super cheap. You're looking at $7-10.
Chantel Coutu
The ice cream here is amazing! We usually get plain scoops because it is so yummy, but today we decided to try sundaes, I got the Breakfast of Champions, which was amazing! The cereal milk ice cream was so good. My daughter got the Unicorn sundae and she was thrilled, she loved every bite of it. Highly recommend!
Victoria
The best ice cream in Calgary! So flavourful and unique. Every flavour I’ve had here is excellent, highlights are the Whisky Hazlelnut Praline and the Happy Camper Sundae. We don't go here often because it gets INSANELY busy on nice weekends (we waited fifty minutes at 9:30 last night), so if you can go during a weekday that’s better. The staff are upbeat though and work as fast as they possibly can.
Rebecca Chu
Hands down the best Cookies n' Cream ice cream I've ever had! They give you a lot for a single scoop, and they frequently update their menu with a bunch of unique flavours. This place is packed no matter what season it is because it's definitely worth a try!
Laura
Sweet tooth lovers unite!! Mouthwatering ice cream you can even top with a giant roasted marshmallow! You'll notice the long line up to get into the store as all are hand-scooped and made in front of you. Can buy tubs to bring home as well. Must visit in Calgary!!
Catherine
Their ice-creams are not bad, i just really don’t like one of the cashiers in this shop being dishonest to me about the loyalty card and she still owes me one stamp! She said kid’s scoop doesn’t get a stamp but the other cashiers said it gets and it is also written on the loyalty card that collect 7 stamps after buying any ice cream scoop or sundae and get 8th one free. I live nearby and I am a regular guest, that’s why I was interested in collecting stamps. And I think they should mention the promotion to any customer since it is going on. But if they let me feel uncomfortable, I would probably go a bit further to Village icecream as I heard it’s the best in town!

I'm not a huge ice cream fan, nor do I have a sweet tooth.

So when we arrived at Marcus, I had my reservations. However, when our order was fulfilled, my reservations quickly dissipated. I ordered the taber sweet corn/blackberry ice cream with waffle cone, and it was simply delicious.

The ice cream had a very nice hint of corn taste, and none of the seeds from the blackberry. I really enjoyed the ice cream, and would not hesitate to go back.

This place is small, with limited seating inside, but we lucked out and most of the patrons just bought the ice cream and left.

Cute little place. Went here on a rainy day and the line was extending from inside to 10 people outside. Happy I tried it, it's different from all the others just not my all time favourite.
Sheep
I had the roasted strawberry buttermilk and the sweet Taber corn blackberry on a waffle cone. I found it to be less creamy and flavourful than Village Ice Cream and the waffle cone was really really sweet (too sweet for my taste). I also found the service to be so-so, not as friendly as other ice cream place in the city. The sundaes are very "Instagrammable" though.

I am very satisfied about this place and i recommend it. It's small and a bit confusing but they have a very good Ice Cream. The staff is very friendly. I'm going back to this place, well done guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Cute little shop with pretty good ice cream. Looong line though. I guess that is to be expected on a hot Saturday afternoon! I got a scoop of toasted coconut mango (a vegan ice cream) and lemon curd blueberry. Coconut was okay, didn't blow me away, but the lemon curd blueberry was pretty delicious.... sooo refreshing! I do prefer Village Ice Cream, but this place is a solid option for artisanal ice cream in YYC!

Went to Made by Marcus Thursday for the first time and I was sooo excited! After a 15 minute wait in line (which was probably much shorter than usual since it was a bit cold that night) we were finally able to place our order. I went with one scoop of cookies and cream in a waffle cone and my fiancé got a scoop of espresso almond toffee in a cup. I was surprised at how generous the portion was, they really filled up the cone which was awesome! The first bite was delicious! I could tell it was made with good quality ingredients. By the second bite I already felt sick of it and the more I ate the less I liked it. It was just soooo sweet! I ended up only finishing up to the top of the cone (and had a couple bites of ice cream with cone to see if the cone balanced the sweetness - it didn't, it might have even been sweeter) and finally I had to throw it out. I don't think I've ever in my life thrown out ice cream... My fiancé's espresso ice cream was also really good on the first bite and then just got way too sweet after awhile so he didn't finish his either. I really wanted to love this place but I doubt we'll ever go back. I saw lots of people eating sundaes and they were so beautiful so props to Made by Marcus for creating some seriously beautiful treats!
Hangry In YYC
It took me forever to try Made By Marcus because it is always lined up - and I mean out the door and to the end of the block, but now I know it's for good reason. The menu isn't extensive but it has just the right amount of classics (vanilla, chocolate, etc) and innovative flavors (lemon curd blueberry, toasted coconut mango, etc).

A single scoop is $5, until you realize that it actually means they give you 2 scoops of ice cream. Confusing, yes, but then the girls behind the counter advise that you can order two flavors with each single scoop - ahhh it all makes sense now. I tried the lemon cured blueberry and a Thai basil passion fruit (? I can't remember exactly but it was delicious regardless).

The place is modern and welcoming. There's limited seats inside and only 2 benches and a couple of stools on the patio. Service was friendly and offered us tasting samples why we looked.

Would recommend going, just prepare yourself to wait.
Probably some of the best ice cream in the city. Fresh flavours and in-house made marshmallows. The soft serve is very rich and great mouth feel. The scoops are quite large and the cones are made fresh.

Hands down the best place to get ice cream in Calgary. Many unique flavours and very friendly staff. Great vibes, only wish it was open a little later as it is usually packed right at 10 pm near close on week days!
Chris Matthew
Tried just the soft serve vanilla bean, it was as good as any other good soft serve ice cream...nice and soft. Very friendly service that makes you want to go back for more. I will need to try something else next time to see what is all the hype and lineup about this place.

After a delicious sitting at the Ship patio one night, Siddall, Norman and I were on the hunt for ice cream. Since ice cream is Siddall’s spirit animal, she was already in the know of a new ice cream shoppe – Made by Marcus that had opened on 17th Avenue. Made by Marus is a microcreamery who whip up all sorts of unique flavours in their wee shop: Tahitian Banilla Bean, Peach Jalapeno Yougurt and Cold Brew Coffee among them.
Diana Phu
The service is friendly and the place is small on the inside. There are seats inside the place to sit and enjoy the food that they offer. The ice cream is delicious, although a little bit more expensive. One is able to sample the ice cream that they have there and self serve their own water. The macarons there are delicious and can not be bought individually, but in boxes of eight or ten I think. The macarons are cheaper than other macarons, but are delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is friendly.

Awesome tastes Ice cream. I got the Earl Grey one, it is very good! But I like the village one better.
However, the green tea matcha is superb!! Recommend it if you like hot green tea!
Ah
With the overwhelming amount of instagram posts over this cute ice cream shop of course my basic tendencies was going to lead me here to treat my sweet tooth. Right on the ever bustling 17th street is this trendy microcreamery, pushing out fresh batches of soft serve ice cream on the daily.

Exterior doesn’t seem like much but once you walk through the doors you’re welcomed into a simplistic fresh parlor-esque feel. The space is relaxed and small, with not a lot of seating. Not so kid-friendly rap was blasting through the speakers which kind of killed the whimsical mood seeing as there were families with kids trying to enjoy the space as well. Eh.

I had one goal this trip and one goal only, The Unicorn - ($6) - 5/5 - shared between two. This beast was piled onto a cup consisting of vanilla soft serve ice cream drizzled with strawberry white chocolate and pink and blue cotton candy TOPPED with a waffle cone that had extra white chocolate and sprinkles, we also opted to add the Torched Marshmallow - ($1) - for an added effect. This dessert was a beast but the pairing of the strawberry white chocolate with the vanilla soft serve was magical. The marshmallow was VERY sweet, like too sweet. Hence the order of a latte ($4) to mix some bitterness into the whole sugary explosion.

So good, so worth it, had a killer sugar high. While glancing through the menu as we ordered there are a ton of tantalizing flavors that were beyond unique. Must come by to try more!

Another ice cream place in Calgary that I’ve been wanting to try, Made by Marcus, is right on busy 17th Avenue. I’d put them on the same level as Village Ice Cream and Fiasco Gelato. I’m jealous how there’s so many quality ice cream places in town. Couple seating areas to sit inside and out but you’ll have to be quick to snag a spot. Lineup is a continuous stream of people coming to get their ice cream fix.

If you don't come here you're missing out on life..... Everything is so damn good! Creativity is bomb! Way to go Marcus and the team!! Gives village a run for their money as prices are very reasonable. ;)
Julie N
The ice cream is very good and they have a great selection. I'm very happy they have soft serve as a lot of places don't offer this option. Affogato is very strong but it suits my taste buds to the T.

I tried their churro during valentines and thought it was quite good as well.

Good. Really sweet girls behind the counter and I liked watching her put together my sundae with care. Very cute to watch tongs carefully adjusting cotton candy into a bowl. Nice interior and quite roomy despite its small size. The large group table gave an opportunity to meet some other customers, one of which took a picture of my adorable sundae. I had the unicorn sundae. The strawberry white chocolate hardened quickly so I ended up with a big chunk of chocolate in the cup that was kind of annoying to eat. Overall it was nice and also adorable though. Like the big open kitchen in the back Next time I'll try a hard icecream in a waffle cone instead like a grown up. Very fairly priced.

By far, my favourite item at Made by Marcus is the Goldfinger - a milk chocolate, hazelnut praline dipped cone. The vanilla soft serve inside of it is the most decadent that I've ever had and the waffle cone is absolutely perfect! I also really like the flavour of both the Blueberry Lemon Curd and Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk ice creams. If churros are available, be sure to try it - the exterior is crisp, the interior is airy, and the cinnamon flavour is pronounced. There's a reason that people line up for Made by Marcus in below-zero weather!

After seeing the crazy line up this place usually has, I figured it must be something really special.
And it was good, it definitely was tasty. I tried the blueberry lemon curd, which was quite refreshing though honestly a bit too tart about half way through. More blueberry and less lemon would have been a bit better balanced I feel. But I did find their house made waffle cone a bit hard (honestly I'd probably have liked it just fine, but when directly compared to Village ice cream's waffle cone it just wasn't as good). The ice cream itself had some little icy flakes in it too.
It's right down the road from me, so come summer time I'm sure I'll give them another chance.

Good ice cream. Especially if you like fruitier flavours. I personally prefer Village, but I will understand if you don't. Cool combinations like basil and lemon make this place worth visiting.

Busy place means it's a good place! Stuck with the chocolate tonight it was amazing! Nice and creamy too. Wish it was a bugger place with more seating

We dropped by this ice cream shop on a Saturday night, and despite the fact that it was pouring cats and dogs, there was a long lineup of customers extending outside - a good sign of something special. The flavours are unique and different from what I've seen at other ice cream establishments. The sundaes looked yummy, especially the Happy Camper, which appeared to come with a toasted homemade marshmallow. On our visit I decided to go with a single scoop of the hazelnut praline in a waffle cone. Prior to choosing this flavour I tried the dulce banana walnut; unfortunately the banana flavour didn't taste like real banana, but rather the synthetic kind. The hazelnut praline was good, but the texture was slightly grainy and not as creamy. The waffle cone was good, I just wished they could have folded the end so the ice cream didn't melt through. Prices however are amazingly reasonable. I was shocked by how much ice cream you get in a single cone for $5, way more than Village... Honestly though, I still prefer the mouthful of Village ice cream, and feel it is more superior in quality than any other ice cream shop in Calgary. But Made by Marcus definitely has something going for them with their unique flavour combinations and good prices. I'd return to try some of the other flavours, and maybe that yummy looking Happy Camper sundae.
KT
Definitely the Village Killer. Their ice cream is really good. Different flavors, lots of flavors. Well priced. Can't wait to go back!!!!

The ice cream was good - the little custard cake was amazing! We tried the earl grey chip, strawberry cardamom, birthday cake sundae and hazelnut. All were delicious. Note the sundaes are made with soft serve and the 'liquid cheesecake' tastes more like condensed milk. Still good tho!
Tmoski
Well I'm impressed. The creamsicle was delightful but I couldn't take it home! Then I tried the lemon curd and wild blueberry. No wonder it's one of their best sellers! I'll be going back with my empty container for more soon.

After hearing a lot of hype about this ice cream a couple friends and I decided to go to Made By Marcus this evening! It's located on 17th Ave, there are a few parking lots around the area so parking was free and not too difficult to find!
The store itself is small and compact, only one long table to eat at and a couple patio tables located outside. The store has a variety of unique ice cream flavours such as Toasted Coconut Mango, Passionfruit Basil, Monogram Espresso Flake and many more!! I chose Cookies n Cream as shown in the picture. ice cream is $5 for one scoop and that was plenty. There was a long lineup once we received our ice creams and since the table was taken by a large family we had no choice but to leave the store. We just decided to walk along 17th Ave with our ice cream! The ice cream is delicious and extremely creamy, in my opinion much better than Village Ice Cream. The cones are also very good and have a really sweet flavour, a brown sugar cone is offered for an additional $1.
Overall, I would definetly come again and try out the different flavours and I recommend you all to check out this new ice cream store, it's worth the try and you can never go wrong with ice cream! :)

Heard this place opened recently and gotta stop by and check it out! I tried the Earl Grey Chip and Lemon Curd Blueberry. I like the subtle taste of the early grey but not a big fan of chocolate chip, so ended up with the tangy lemon blueberry which is perfect for a hot summer day. My friend ordered the dulce banana walnut, it was great but a bit on the sweet side. This microcreamery definitely worth coming back!
Glen Coco
Stopped by the other day to see what all the hype was about. I got the earl grey and it was a bit bland for my liking, however, I had a taste of the cookies n cream and it was delicious. One thing I'd ought to mention though was the rude customer service from the cashier. She was unfriendly and unapproachable. I would definitely return for the ice cream, but the customer service needs improvement.

No question, Made by Marcus offers the best ice cream in Calgary. Marcus uses only the best, locally sourced ingredients and it's evident in the taste of his ice cream. His flavours change regularly and are always incredibly inventive and delicious. I personally cannot recommend the s'mores flavour enough. Thanks for finally opening your own store front, Marcus!
