Went with a good friend for dinner on our walkabout on Stephen Avenue. The service was impeccable, the food spectacular. I will definitely be back many times. We had the oysters, the mineits were incredible, then we had the burger. That was one of the best burgers I have had.
The grilled Humboldt squid was overwhelmingly impressive. Unless someone told me this was squid, I wouldn’t have known because the smooth, soft consistency was unlike any squid I have ever had.
First time spontaneously came here during lunch and got Living Room area due the tables are all booked. Great atmosphere and really homey.
Pertaining the food, I ordered a Beef Sausage + Bell Pepper with Jalapeño cornbread. The food is an appetizer but quite big so it could be an entree. The Cornbread is the highlight, in a shape of a muffin. The Jalapeño taste is not too strong with a hint of Garlic, perfect for the heavy-spice Asian tounge like me. The Sausage was okay, somehow it got overwhelmed by the taste of onions and bell pepper so I suggest to eat it separately.
The service is excellent. Our server knows the menu well and the recommendation is on point. Will definitely visit again when I am in Calgary.
One of my absolute favourite restaurants in Calgary. Food is always phenomenal - if you haven’t been, you’re seriously missing out! It’s all Canadian ingredients, neat flavour combos, & great value in a romantic, yet relaxed atmosphere. (5/5)
I can’t believe I haven’t yet done a blog post about Klein Harris! I’ve been here quite a few times now, and every time the food has been pretty darn tasty and the experience an overall good one. I was lucky to be invited to a business dinner after work – there were 5 of us so it was a small enough group to enjoy a full table conversation. Service was pleasant and attentive and we were served water and drinks (which were on sale until 6pm, woot!) right away.
Great restaurant on Stephen Ave that is not over priced! They have a lunch special similar to Charcut called ‘One Punch Lunch’ where it comes with the daily feature, a soup or chips, 2 mini butter tarts, and a coffee or a mocktail for $16. When we ordered around 12:15pm during lunch, there was only one left.. which is odd to me that you’re going to have lunch feature but sell out within the first 15 minutes, and it wasn’t that busy yet either...that was the only downside. One of us got the special and really liked the smoked duck sandwich. The duck was still moist even though it had been shredded. I got the mushroom ravioli which was really tasty, and our third got the fish sandwich which was recommended by the server. Food and atmosphere was great, the server was friendly but at times was a bit hard to get a hold of, and forgot to bring our drink, but I think he may have been new. Even with that he made some good suggestions with food and dessert and we still enjoyed our experience.
Really great ambience and food! I always get the mushroom ravioli and the duck breast when I come and it never fails to impress me! The later of duck hash beneath the duck is indescribable good. Service is usually really great although last night it was maybe a bit too attentive and forced for my liking. Kudos to her for being able to check on us every five-ten minutes though!
Great cocktails. Would love to come back and enjoy the lounge seating. Watching the chefs prepare our meal from the bar was fun though. The food was excellent- especially the best salad.
Excellent food and service. The food has a Canadian theme and all the dishes we tried were very well executed with great contrasting and complimentary flavours. There was a couple of small mix ups but they were handled well and we all left very satisfied. I will definitely be back.
Through my wife a surprise birthday party here on Saturday. Did a cocktail/canape style menu and was situated in the "living room" area. Had a blast and had nothing but good things to say about Christina and her team! Great service and great food! Highly recommend the BEETS!
Diver Scallops, ½ Dozen Oysters, Beet Mosaic, Smoked Duck, Mushroom Ravioli, Candied Pork Belly, Foie Gras Tasting, Lamb, Pork Roast, Doughnuts
Klein/Harris is delicious. Came here twice in a span of 3 weeks because it’s that good (from Edmonton). Started with the scallops and oysters. Both tasted super fresh for seafood and the scallops were cooked perfectly and paired well with the farmer’s bacon, but what doesn’t taste good with bacon? Beet salad is a must for beet lovers. I don’t like em too much but these were pretty good with goat cheese. Smoked Duck was cooked perfectly, had the carmelized onions and pan seared apples which opposed that gamey duck taste, so good yo. Mushroom Rav was enjoyable with the blanket of shaved gouda. The Pork Belly was one of my favorites, which was egg in a nest with maple butter...it’s basically breakfast for dinner and it was great. Foie Gras had tarragon mousse, candied apple terrine, leek and brandy pate - these were all good spreads and extra bread didn’t cost anything. The lamb and pork roast were both cooked so well and was tender and juicy. The lamb sat on herbed wild rice with some squash and turnips. The roast sat on some whipped potatoes and wasn’t over buttered, just a good consistency. For dessert, the Doughnuts really stood out as it had salted caramel and chocolate sauce. Whatever you dip it into, it’s going to be a good time.
K/H is on Stephen Ave and close to Centre st, this is a prime location. Very accommodating to our large group, great service and even better drinks. Can’t help but mention how good the cocktails and the price of them alone are worth the trip to K/H. They really boast Canadian cuisine and it really shows with oysters from the Maritimes and mushrooms from BC. Definitely a place to eat and drink.

Sat at the bar with my wife for a date night dinner, and don't think I could have made a better choice. We shared an appy (the toast three ways), the pork belly eggs in a nest, and the duck. All were fantastic.
Also made our way though 6 of the cocktails. They have a great variety of interesting drinks and spins kn classics . The Oatty was my favorite (like apple cobbler).
All in all, I would definitely go back
This place has such a great atmosphere! You have the options of dining seating or couches in the back if you just want to lounge without the loud music (aka actually carry a conversation with each other).
For drinks I ordered their Caesar - this drink is a must try. It is completely unique and so delicious. If you think you don't like Caesars, order one of these and you'll change your mind about them.
For food, we decided the share the fois gras tasting plate which comes with three different takes of the fois - mouse, pate and one with candied apples (my favourite of the three). We also had the candied pork belly -based on the title you would think that was enough but they take it even further with an egg inside a slice of bread covered in maple butter. I wish they opened for breakfast so I could start my days with this dish. Lastly we had the duck wings (special of the day).
Update July 2017
Came for lunch with some friends. Ordered their burger and it was delicious - it might look a little suspicious showing up at your table without a traditional bun, but you won't regret it, especially if you like your burgers medium rare (if you don't, no worries because they ask you how your would like your burgers done - always a good sign when a restaurant asks you that about your burger).
Friends ordered the parmesan crusted grilled cheese and the shaved pork sirloin -everyone loved their dishes.
Updated January 2018
Went back during lunch and decided to order the fish burger - excellent choice if I must say so myself! It was great the fish didn't have the typical fried batter coating but just in delicious oil :) and the fish to bun portion was very generous.
Updated April 2018
Food, drinks and service is still amazing - can't say enough good things about this place. Now I'm just adding more pictures of our most recent meal here.
- grilled Humboldt squid
- seared beef skillet
- crispy pork sirloin
- duck breast
- jelly roll (sangria flavor - but it's constantly changing)
I wish I could give Klein and Harris a higher rating, this place is incredible. The food is beyond delicious and the drinks and delectable. It is priced just right so I can plan a date night to go back without feeling like it needs to be a special occasion! Appetizers: we shared the beet salad, it was delicious and light wth a oat crumble and goat cheese. We also shared the Boursin - unreal so delicious!!!! I would highly recommend this ! And will likely try to make it (& fail) in my kitchen. Mains: butter lettuce wraps- there is 5 on a plate and each is made to perfection !! Smoked duck- nice portion size, cooked perfectly very sweet & fruity though. Pork belly- made with a egg in a hole and maple butter it was delicious (grown up breakfast) and Steak- delightful and mouth watering. Dessert: butter tart- This is the best butter tart I have ever tried !!! Donuts: good for sharing and they come with salted caramel and chocolate sauce. Crepe cake: a little dry in my opinion and not enough flavor but others at the table enjoyed it. Drinks: house Caesar- this is a Caesar until any other ! It is a light green color and spiced with habanero bitters ! Tiki Horse- really delicious but sweet. The presentation is so cute ! Kentucky peach julep- delightful and so tasty. The mint leaves are so fresh just to eat on their own. Manhattan- made with a really cherry. Great flavor.
We absolutely loved it. Thank you Klein and Harris for such a delicious meal and amazing experience. Cannot wait to come back and devour more from the menu !!!
Stopped here on a whim and took a chance on a newer restaurant. We took a look at the menu posted in the door and decided it looked interesting enough to give it a try. Glad we did. This place doesn't disappoint.
The theme is true north Canadian cuisine. I ordered the toast and roast special of the night. It was a veal roast with cauliflower, potatoes and beets. The dish was presented beautifully. The meat had a nice crispy sear on the outside and was tender inside. The vegetables were nicely roasted and also perfectly seasoned.
My dinner companion had the duck breast that was pan seared with a crispy skin and wasn't a bit over done. It sat on top of a crispy potato pancake and some roasted beets. Drizzled on top was a nice gravy.
Service was friendly and pleasant. Our server gave us great recommendations.
This was a nice find in the heart of downtown Calgary. We very very happy with our dining experience. The price was reasonable and we enjoyed the simplistic and neutral decor. It was beautifully designed.
Only restaurant I have ever been to that deserves a 5 star rating in my opinion. Nothing else comes close. Every detail was perfect, everyone working there was so happy and treated every guest with genuine hospitality. Most comfortable dinning experience I have ever had. Food and cocktails were exquisite but that goes without saying. Thank you Klein & Harris I will definitely be returning... hopefully very soon!
The restaurant was nice. We shared a bunch of dishes the Smoked duck, the steak, the pork, and the duck breast. They were cooked well but two were VERY salty. For the dessert we got the dognuts and the crape cake. Neither were that special. The prices were decent.
One of the best restaurants l have been in that every thing was just perfect the host, waiter, chef and course the food we had the beet salad, hanger steak & the donut dessert and all dishes look amazing and we're absolutely delicious we would definitely be going back to this restaurant.
To experience authentic Canadian flavours, Klein/Harris is the place to go. The restaurant did a fantastic job showcasing modern Canadian cooking with seasonally-selected ingredients in a deliciously creative way. I tried the one punch lunch ($16), which comes with a daily feature, a choice of side, mini butter tarts, and coffee or mocktail. That day, we had housemade pork burger which is a delight! Plus, butternut squash and corn soup, butter tarts, and virgin grapefruit mojito, the day couldn't be any better.
Meet Klein who greets you right when you enter the door. You can check these wall pieces out here!. Klein & Harris offers a One Punch Lunch option for 16 dollars which includes a main with your choice of soup, salad or fries, 2 butter tarts and a choice of a coffee or mocktail. The mocktail of the day was a Grapefruit Mojito and it was delicious. The taste of grapefruit bursts in your mouth without that bitter aftertaste.
This place is kinda hidden since there is no big visible sign for the restaurant. It is right beside the Bear & Kilt. They take reservations on Bookenda. This place have definitely picked up. The first time i was here in the beginning of April, it was quite dead, only about 4 tables or so. Yesterday the whole front part of the restaurant was filled. Been here twice and i'm impressed with their One Punch Lunch option for $16. It includes a mocktail or coffee, sandwich of the day, choice of either butternut squash soup, salad or homemade chips and 2 butter tarts. The soup is extremely good, smooth and flavorful. The homemade chips were thin and crispy and not greasy. The sandwiches were filling and it came in a nice bun. The mocktail were super tasty as well. Overall I really like this restaurant and would recommend this. Would like to order other items next time.
Here my honest review about my experience at Klein/ Harris.
Hidden on the corner of Stephen Ave. From the moment you walk through the door, there’s a beautiful vibe and ambiance, perfect for “Table for 2”.
So if you’re trying to land a second date, check this spot out for your first date 😉
The hostess is always pleasant with a warm welcoming smile, that lets you know you’re about to be pampered.
The food was delicious, started the night with some delicious cocktails. Jumped in on some 3 way toast, took a nice cruise on the main dish, some crispy pork loin served with potatoes and veggies while singing “isn’t she lovely” in my head, and ended the night with some nice dessert.
Now, you have to forgive me for not remembering the names of the dishes, but just check this spot and I bet you won’t regret it.
The last star is for the portion, I honestly wanted some extra potatoes and veggies to clean off the sauce on my plate. But overall, an amazing experience.
Absolutely phenomenal service! Very kind waiting staff, plenty of selection available for anyone regarding drinks, dietary restrictions and types of eats. Food was delicious, had the Friday special, Roast & Toast and I was very pleased. Good size portions and you get exactly what you pay for.
I had such a great evening here! The service, the food, the atmosphere and decor, all fantastic. We ordered what felt like the whole menu and everything was delicious. My favourite item was the mushroom ravioli. They closed at 11 but let us stay longer to finish up our meal and desserts.
Happy Hour at Klein & Harris. We ordered one of everything on the menu. We loved the burgers. They were the perfect size for. a snack. We carried out tummies out with us😀
Great atmosphere. Unfortunately, they were a bit short-staffed, but the service we got was always impeccable. We were seated near the open front door where the smell of people smoking outside wafted in a bit too often for our taste.
We got the Crusted Boursin Cheese, Lettuce Wraps, Candied Pork Belly, Crispy Pork, Alberta Lamb Shoulder, Triple Chocolate Cake, and Cheesecake Mousse. We very much enjoyed almost all of the dishes, although the lamb seemed a bit overcooked.
We would certainly like to come back to try the other dishes.
The staff were amazing from step one, they helped me understand my allergy options on the phone before the dinner and the staff were so knowledgable about everything! Our server/the bar manager Justin was fantastic, the food was on point and the portions were so perfect, each dish's flavour profile was well balanced and flavourful in a different way which lead to a lovely culinary experience. Kudos to everyone at Klein/Harris for this lovely spot, for sure a must-stop for anyone who loves share plates and well executed flavour and presentation!
Amazing place. Very nice atmosphere, the food is fantastic and well thought out, and the service and top notch!
When you go here, it's nice to sit at the bar where you can see the kitchen cook your food in front of you and you can talk to the chefs and ask the anything. Super friendly staff.
Would definitely come back. 👍
