Review Native Tongues Taqueria - Calgary

Chad Milroy
For our first experience, Native Tongues was awesome! Our server, Eduardo, was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable! He spoke Spanish so we did our best to speak with him. The margaritas and tacos were all amazing. The homemade guacamole was to die for and it included a few jalapeños for a kick! To top it off, the Piña dessert was unreal! We were glad to try Native Tongues and will definitely be back for more tacos and tequila!! Thanks for the fun time.

Service was friendly and food was quite good. My only complaint is that the portions are quite small for what you pay for. $15 glasses of sangria is certainly on the high end considering that the glasses are full to the top with ice (no more than 6 ounces of sangria a glass).

Fantastic tacos! We had the chicken, mushroom and beef brisket tacos and all were amazing! But what was the most amazing is the Esquites, which gives you the Mexican street corn experience you do t want to miss!

Visited for a quick dinner, early Sunday evening. Not crowded at all. We got a table without having to wait. Chairs a little bit uncomfortable. Musikc a little bit too loud. The staff were friendly and explained the menu. We were in a little bit of an hurry and ordered three tacos each. Ordered beef, pork and tuna. We got the food within ten minutes. The tacos are small. If you are hungry you probably need to order 4-5. The food was ok, but we were a little bit disappointed. We had expected more flavours. A little bit pricey - small tacos, could have had more taste.

Awesome tacos and one of the better spots in Calgary. For my meal I had pork belly pinup, summer squash and birria + shared the papas Fritas. Every single item was full of so much flavour, the papa fritas was crispy and paired well with the aioli. With the tacos birria was my least fav due to size, the summer squash was a unique combo and very good choice for vegetarians/ gluten free option. My fav was definetly the prok belly Pinole. The pork belly was thick, flavourful and enhanced the taco flavour. One of the best I’ve had.

A cool local in downtown Calgary that’s serving up some mouthwatering tacos! Great atmosphere and perfect for a causal lunch or fun stop to start the evening.

If you go there, prepare to eat unhealthy amount of tacos! Food is absolutely great, the brisket taco should be especially recommended. They also have tasty house wine. Absolutely lovely atmosphere and cool design.

I just found out that this place changes their menu from time to time. The food is always amazing and tacos were great! I like how the bartenders can concoct mystery drinks. This is a good place for a quick bite to eat and to catch up with friends and colleagues.

This place is stunningly popular. We had to wait 15 mins for a table on the Sunday evening of the Lilac Festival...maybe that's just fine. The atmosphere is lovely. Great music, great vibe, great wait staff, great everyone. The menu is wonderful, Mexican food done well, really well. We had the (forgive the translations) grill corn and the soup to start. We were both in heaven. Margarita was tasty and well done. Squirt (Mexican version of Ting) was great. Fish tacos for 2, refried bean and mushroom tacos all amazing, tasty, fresh and well prepared. Cooked right there in view over open coals by cheerful chefs. Well run and very timely even whilst being super busy. Finished with Mexican flan. Wow. Reasonable well priced. $80 for two even with desert, starter and margaritas. I'll recommend highly. Why can't this restaurant be in Toronto? Shout out to Kelsi the wait staff...cool, charming under pressure.

I was pretty stoked to come across this quaint Mexican joint in Calgary! They defiantly have authentic flavours and plates being served. We shared the salsa sampler which was a decent size and each salsa sample had it's own unique flavour that is hard to find anywhere else but in Mexico itself. After, I had the vegetarian tacos - which both were really tasty. The corn tortillas were true to traditional size so I would order a few at least. Servers were nice and efficient with timing on the dishes. The place was busy and we were there mid-afternoon so I would defiantly make reservations if they accept them or come prepared to have a bit of a wait if it's around dinner time. I would highly recommend this place to anyone passing through Calgary looking for a hidden hot spot. Defiantly will be back!

The tacos were beyond delicious! We enjoyed the pork belly platter then a couple of brisket tacos. We were warnd of their popularity and line ups but got there at just the right time. The food is well worth waiing for...Be patient! Service was excellent being attentive, timely a knowledgeable.

The food it's okay. But the service was very bad. We wait for so long and it wasn't busy at all. We order two pastel de 3 leches and wait for 15 mins. The flavour of the cake it's just okay it was more whipped cream than cake. It looks like the used frozen strawberries and the desicion to plate it in a jar not good idea or the flowers as decoration. The concept it's good just the execution of the food preparation and service need to improve.

While I have never actually been to the Native Tongue restaurant itself and am unable to comment on the service, I must admit that their food is out of this world amazing. I've had it a few times at work meetings and events and each time it is better than the last. I imagine this place being a taco lovers heaven!
Nathalie Cruz Gonzalez
I wouldn't come back. Depending on the type of tacos some were bland some were salty. Overpriced for portion size not authentic at all. Even my traditional sweet rice milk drink (horchata) was on the salty side. Service wasn't the worst but came looking for good food and left disappointed. Still hungry maybe diner next door will be better....

Their taco Tuesdays are great value! But don't skip the family style platters because those are awesome as well. Great vibe with an awesome staff

We discovered this taqueria a week ago before our trip to the Rockies, had to come back today before we leave Calgary. The food was absolutely scrumptious and service, often a sore spot these days, impeccable and friendly. The decor is cozy, artsy and contemporary all at the same time. And finally, prices are very reasonable for what you get (even more so on Taco Tuesday). I wish I could take this place home with me...
Jolene Lutyck
I loved it... I really recommend the salsa tasting platter... nice selection of Mexican drinks. The service was great. Cool atmosphere.

Great services; Eclectic & stylish crowd; Great old school, funk soundtrack; Knowledgeable staff; Attentive service; Chill lighting and decor; Great menu choices... and most importantly, fresh, tasty amazing food!
Allyson Millette Poirier
Drinks on point. Food amazing. Very good vibes, a place to go!!
Erika Dubitz
The food was delicious but we ordered our food and it took about 45 minutes from when we finished our appetizer to get our food. The people beside us ordered theirs after we did and got it first. Very good food though, neat environment!

Said it before and say it again and again. Absolute best Mexican Food outside of Mexico City. Hard to believe I haven't found a place like this back home. But this jewel is absolutely amazing. Mexico City street food on steroids.

Great food that was overshadowed by the worst service EVER. It took us an hour after being seated to get guac and chips and another half an hour to be served four plates of various tacos, one each. We were charged for food we did not receive and had to pay an 18% gratuity on our bill. We were told it was about "the process and experience". I have eaten in restaurants around the world (some of them 5 star Michelin) and none of them would make us wait an hour and a half for 4 tacos.
Colleen Goodhew Salsman
We love authentic Mexican food, with real heat. Native Tongues does a good job but the spice wasn't big enough for my taste however we all enjoyed our food. The cocktails, we had many, were great the service outstanding and would definitely return🍸
Sindy Sarmiento Ruiz
The food was delicious. The atmosphere is magnificent. The decor of the place is amazing but above all the attention is the best.
Winnie
Great place for tacos especially on taco Tuesday! I definitely loved the fish and beef tacos & the guacamole was pretty good and well seasoned
Foodfrenzy
Great service, nice atmosphere, great staff. I was just a little disappointed with the lack of flavour on everything. It was all fresh and high quality just lacked depth of flavour. Tried the salsas on their own and found them similarly bland. Are there hotter options? Not sure as I was not offered. Even the black beans in the taco were lacklustre. Tasted straight out of a can with nothing added. Probably wouldn’t go back.
Sneha Dobriyal
Well executed, classic Mexican flavours were abound. Nice variety, and elevated takes on homey classics (barbacoa, carnitas, etc). Nothing jumped out as memorable though. Everything was good, just nothing blew us away. Would be back, just wouldn’t clear my schedule to make it happen.
Marta Robichaud
Great food, friendly staff. The tacos are small, but delicious. The guacamole was perfect for someone like me who hates onions as it had no onions. The only thing I did not like was the seats. It was very busy when I arrived but I was able to get a seat as I was alone. The food was served in a timely manner. I would recommend visiting, but make reservations if you are 2 or more 😁.

A few friends and I were planning to have girls night at native tongues. We put our names on the waitlist and were told around 40min. So we decided to walk a block away to a restaurant for a few drinks and appies. One hour later we get notification that our table is ready and we message back we are on our way. Literally 10 minutes for us to walk there, and they said we would have to wait another half hour. <br/>We were very disappointed.<br/><br/>I asked to speak to the manager and discussed this scenario with him and he was unsympathetic and I explained they cannot expect someone to wait that long to eat at their establishment and should consider reservations at least certain nights. He was very unprofessional.<br/><br/>Although their tacos are good, I would not spend my night in a line or waiting 1.5-2 hours for many places in YYC, especially not for these tacos.<br/><br/>I will not be going to this establishment and will continue to deter all my friends from eating there by simply saying it’s a waste of time and I don’t agree to help out a selfish business model.
John Budz
Food was bland and awful! ordered the burger and it came out salty. very disappointed with the good, though service was excellent. Would not recommend for authentic Mexican!
Kyla
Absolutely delicious! The tacos are a little expensive for the small size, but incredibly fresh and tasty. The mushroom tacos are particularly yummy! We've tried multiple appetizers and they have all been good (the chilaquiles are our favourite). My only complaint is that there isn't a lot of space between the tables.
Mermaid
We went on Taco Tuesday when they are $2.50 a taco. Each taco is quite small - like you can down it in 2 bites - but very tasty and fresh. I love the decor in the restaurant and the wait staff is very classy and friendly as well.
Angela
Would be higher rated if the service was better. The server (Charolette) was cranky and snarky and it made the experience much less enjoyable. Service was a bit slow; even before it was busy but the food was awesome as was the atmosphere. As a table of four we shared a few dishes from the happy hour menu, the salsa tasting and tacos. The food was fresh and delicious!<br/>Too bad the service wasn’t up to par.
Julia Marshall
I've been here about half a dozen times. I keep coming back for the AMAZING carnitas tacos, and although I haven't tried many other items on their menu, I'm writing this review to talk about the fantastic service.<br/><br/>I went there with my boyfriend and sister around 9pm on Thursday, April 26, and we were served by a young man whose name I neglected to get. He was hands-down the most attentive server I've ever had, yet not overbearing. He paid attention to even the little comments, and when I had even the slightest look on my face like I wanted to say something, he made a point of coming over and asking me if I needed anything else. The staff also got my sister a new cocktail when she wasn't happy with the one I'd ordered for her, and they recommended her a great tequila when she was a bit lost with the massive selection. I was so impressed with the service that I found myself thinking about it all weekend!<br/><br/>After all this, on our way out, I left my phone on the table. Our server ran after us down the block to return it! I wish we'd tipped more. Native Tongues, hold onto this guy... I'll be returning in hopes of having him as my server again.

Native Tongues was a great experience.  An excellent atmosphere, cool decor, and low stress, great service.    The pork belly pibil was at absolute smash, bursting with flavours.   So, so, good.   The rating was brought down only by the chips and guacamole.   The guac was ok, but it was a bit bland compared to others I've had.   Will definitely go back.
Thomas Gabriel
I think I've been here about five times so clearly I don't dislike it. But the last couple times it's dawned on me that all I'm really getting is a plate of luke-warm small tacos with the standard fillers. They're still good but man, I can think of at least 2 other places that are as good. My friends would make fun of me and fat-shame me for always suggesting Native Tongues but I kind of see their point now. Or maybe my self-esteem has finally hit rock bottom.
Herb
It was a good atmosphere and a good experience. The food and the drinks were all good and there was lots of interesting items to try. I recall the tacos being very good and a numbers of the appys were great but unfortunately reflecting back on the menu I am uncertain what anything was. I think that its a lot of fun to go in and try some stuff.

Native Tongues is one of my favourite places to grab a bite in YYC. They offer a great selection of authentic dishes that truly satisfy your taste buds! The ambiance is incredible and the staff is always friendly & willing to go above and beyond. Make sure to end your night with a freshly baked doughnut (:

It was our first visit to Native Tongues and it was amazing!!! We went at lunch and got seated just before the rush....the cocktail menu is truly unique. So much flavour and craftsmanship....Jeff was our barkeep and he was friendly and courteous. Also so prompt on the service.....you asked and he knew. <br/>The tacos are second to none...I could have ate 10 but limited myself to 5....plus and empanada to start. The place was crazy busy but we still got our food in a crazy, fast time. Definitely coming back to the Tongue. It is a true, authentic taqueria experience.

Ok. so ill make a long story short. The waiter who works there (with dirty blonde hair) OVERCHARGED us twice in a row. I mean the dude says they dont split bills there. but hes to dumb to do the proper math. Are we supposed to pull out calculators?! so ya first time he overcharged everyone at the table around 5-10 dollars. second time he overcharged me 15$!! of course i didnt realize until after when we all counted our bills. So their policy of "not splitting bills" is just a ploy to overcharge you. Food is honestly way overpriced and not authentic. I really wanted to like this place but now i just want to go and call that waiter out.

Yum yum yum yum yum !!!! I have wanted to go to this place for ages and finally got the opportunity to go ! We went for our anniversary and it happened to fall on a Tuesday, classic taco Tuesday. We had to wait about 90 minutes to get a seat but it was worth the wait, there is a beautiful park across the street where we spent time walking around and enjoying the fountains. We tried the salsa sampler, I would highly recommend this as the salsas (black, peanut, fresh, guacamole, Serrano pepper) were delicious and the sour cream was so thick and tasty. We tried a variety of tacos my favorite was the mushroom, I will be craving that for a while. Some of the meat ones were a little dry but better with the added salsas. Drinks were good. No complaints. Can't wait to go back !

Unfortunately we did not make a reservation and had to wait for an hour. The waiting area was tiny and it was pouring outside so we had to stay. Once seated we received a complimentary basket of chips and guacamole for the long wait (they were tasty but we would not have paid the regular price for them). We got many items on the menu (corn, all taco types, tostadas, empanadas, and tres leches) so I won't describe all of them all. I thought the tostada and tres leches were not worth the price. That having been said, all the food was very flavorful. My favorites were the brisket tacos, corn, and empanadas. The mushroom tacos were very surprising and delicious. I recommend trying it if you like mushrooms at all. :)

I stopped by for dinner after work on a Wednesday with my husband. Thankfully, it was still happy hour! The $5 margaritas are small but mighty! We started with the chips & guacamole, which I could sit and eat all day. We shared a platter of hongos (mushroom & kale) and frijoles (bean) tacos, which were well-filled and flavourful. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about all the menu items and helped explain all the unique ingredients, including a brief history lesson on mezcal and tequila. We finished with the donas (donut) and flan. The donut was just OK (a little dry), but the flan was incredible! We will definitely return to this place!<br/><br/>Note: We noticed how quickly this restaurant fills up, even on a weeknight! Arrive early to take advantage of the happy hour menu and avoid the wait.

Outstanding. I've eaten at Native Tongues around 5 or 6 times. Never a miss. Chilaquiles are a favourite. Drinks are terrific. Great service. 5/5

Really great food and service. Tried a bunch of stuff chips quac, the corn dip, salsa sampler all very tasty. Had a variety of different tacos soooo good!! Friend had the burger and said it was great. Highly recommend try this place :)

While visiting Calgary from Edmonton I was really looking forward to taking my wife here, but was very disappointed. We waited half an hour outside after being told ten minutes upon arrival. We noticed several people walk in during our wait and when I questioned the hostess I was told she forgot to text us and would be at least another half hour.
Mr Jimmy
Had a fantastic dinner and catch up with two very long time friends. We started with guacamole and chips. Very nice. Not too heavy on the peppers or cilantro. Then we moved onto sharing some fried octopus and lamb shoulder. Both were perfectly done. Highly recommend either. The donut and shortbread cookie were both perfect for a shared dessert. Stick to the regular margarita. Didn't care for the smokey one.

Loud, but great spot for something that feels authentic. Good cocktails. Tacos by the tray. Reverse happy hour after 11 means cheap tacos that you water down with margaritas or whatever concoction the attentive servers and bar staff get you.
Uday Shanbhag
Be prepared for a long wait when you go to this very popular Mexican restaurant, in general food was very good. The chips and guacamole were very good as can be expected in any Mexican place. However the ceviche was not too good. They made up for that in the tacos, we ordered an assorted plate and the beef stood out.<br/><br/>Also in the large plates the brisket chilorio very flavorful. They also have a very good selection of cocktails while the bidi bidi bom bom and y tu mama tambien were good, the classic margarita is like one of the best I've had. Also has a large selection of tequilas if one is into those... A very nice place.
Ranger
Absolutely love their chips and guacamole! The ambiance is perfect and the decor, stunning! Gave the cow tongue taco a try and it was truly delicious.
Bite On This YYC
Man was this place ever packed on a Saturday evening! We had to wait a little over 1.5 hrs for a table for four. Though the wait was crazy long, the ambiance was inviting and comfortable, the service was great, and the food did not take too long to come out. Tried the cocktail Y Tu Mama Tambien, was strong! You could really taste the tequila :)<br/>We ordered the Chilaquiles as our starter. Everything about it was good, the salsa verde, the crema, the fresh queso. We ordered a ton of tacos because we wanted to try them all. Suadero (beef brisket), Carnitas (confit pork), Chorizo con Papas (chorizo rojo), Pollo Adobo (roast organic chicken) and Hongos (mushrooms). The pork tacos were only so-so, the highlight were the beef brisket and mushroom tacos! The Hongos (mushrooms) tacos were surprisingly delicious, the meaty mushrooms with kale and cheese…what a tasty combination. We also ordered tacos family style- the Pescado (grilled trout fillet) and Brisket Chilorio (slow cooked & grilled brisket). The trout was cooked perfectly, the crispy skin added a nice texture, and the cabbage salad made the taco complete. Personally my favorite was the Brisket Chilorio, the beef was so tender and soft, and the sauce smothering the dish was incredibly flavorful that we even used tortillas to grab the remaining sauce in the dish! For dessert we got Donas! This light, fluffy, sweet donut hit the spot….though I feel it would have been more enjoyable if served warm. Next time I come I definitely want to try the Pulpo (grilled octopus family style tacos) and the Tuna Contramar (ahi tuna tostadas). It’s a shame they no longer have the beef tongue tacos, I think this was a dish that set them apart from other taco joints…and also went with their name - native tongues!
Shar
Just went there today for their taco tuesday special. Got there just before 7 and there was a 40 min wait. They do take ur name and number and text u when the table is ready but they dont take reservations. So we killed some time walking arnd the park and the library. We ordered coke ($5 which is expensive even if it is a glass bottle) and horchata ($5 in a slim tall glass so not a lot of quantity). Horchata is a sweet rice drink and it was yummy. We ordered chicken and beef tacos ($2.50 each). The meat lacked flavour and was dry. was not very satifying and they are tiny. Also ordered the chilaquiles ($9) which was good. Service was good. Will not go back as the flavours were just not there. Actually liked los chilitos tacos better.
Luke
I've only been here once, I had the tacos which were good but small. I have heard from people that the platters are the way to go here, has a fun atmosphere
Meghan Mrochuk
Native Tongues is absolutely amazing! The mushroom taco is my favourite but everything is delicious! It can get quite busy but it's definitely worth the wait!
Kelsey Hipkin
Every now and then, one eats something that causes an absolute food revelation, last night at Native Tongues was one of those. MUSH WARNING! Each month the wife trade off on planning a date night. Since she is not a big Mexican fan, I was more than a little surprised when she brought me to the Native Tongues Taqueria on 12th Ave. SW.
Michael Buchanan
Came here on a Sunday with a buddy for some tacos I got one of each. The chorizo & pork tacos were not great very dry & chorizo had a terrible texture. The mushroom & black bean tacos were good & the steak tacos were awesome lots of flavor. After seeing some great reviews was excited but was very disappointed the food was not worth travelling downtown & trying to find parking.
Madison Smyth
Really loved Native Tongues Taqueria arrived on a Thursday afternoon about 12:30 and got right in. Have been hearing for ages about these amazing donuts. Hate to admit it but we started luncheon with awesome donuts.<br/>Would recommend the Hamburguesa al carbon absolutely.<br/>Tons of atmosphere and well trained friendly staff. Seating is very very close I'm ok with that but my friend felt a tad uncomfortable. Would recommend for sure!
Phil
I generally liked the atmosphere as it had nice decor but what really mattered was the food! Best dish I shared with friends was the lamb taco!<br/><br/>Server was friendly and recommended a good drink!

We decided to go to Native Tongues last night for dinner.  There is often a long line to get in.  Our thinking was that it was the Monday of a long weekend and the "after work" crowd would be home in the suburbs.  Our logic paid off and we got a spot at the bar after only a five minute wait.  The bar was a bit crowded but reasonably comfortable.  The big issue was the obnoxious bar tender.  He was loud and wanted to be the center of everyone's attention.  I found him to be extremely annoying.  As for the food, it was excellent.  We had tortilla soup, 2 types of Tostadas and 3 tacos.  The highlight for me was the vegetarian Tostada.  It was creamy, spicy and perfect.  The menu includes an entire section of larger options that are meant for sharing.  I would like to return with a group to try one or more of these dishes.  All in all, this restaurant is excellent.  My suggestions is to avoid sitting at the bar.

We had been trying to go to Native Tongues for dinner for a long time but was hard to get in as they don't take reservations. However they can put your name on a waiting list.<br/><br/>We decided to go as soon as they opened at 11:30am and got a table no problem.<br/><br/>To start we had the Calabaza tostada which was amazing. We had two of each of the tacos de guisado (they come as only one). We did that as we wanted to try all the different meats. Surprisingly my favourite was the Hongos (mushroom, kale, cream, cheese and cilantro). It was AMAZING and so full of flavour. I thought a mushroom taco wouldn't work but it does. <br/><br/>Our server was also very informative.

Finding Canada oddly intrigued by the cuisine of Mexico, the two nations separated by nearly 2,300 miles of United States, one could not help but be curious about the strongly positive reviews of Native Tongues Taqueria, the open kitchen looking quite Caucasian during an afternoon visit but the owners doing an admirable job of replicating the feel of similar modern concepts in Los Angeles and elsewhere.<br/><br/>Focusing squarely on Mexican Street Food and a lively atmosphere, the space still packed by a lingering lunch crowd at 1:30pm, it was from a hurried middle-age woman that the menu was explained with a focus on portion sizes, a daily special of Mole Chicken Thighs that sounded excellent only heard of later when it was described to a neighboring table, long after I’d already received the bulk of my plates.<br/><br/>Divided into Antojitos, individual Tacos and family-style Al Carbon presentations along with Tostadas, Desserts, Cocktails and Beer, it was after considerable perusal that tough choices were made to focus on variety, a total of eight items requested as the kitchen worked with quiet fervor.<br/><br/>Served in three courses, though one and two did overlap some, first bites from Native Tongues came by way of Vegetarian-friendly plates of grilled Carrots lightly topped in sweet butter and fresh Cheese alongside an elegant fried Tortilla topped in razor-thin Zucchini slices with an airy Cheese not unlike Mascarpone that helped to balance the smoke and fire from a thick salsa made almost entirely of dried Chiles.<br/><br/>Drinking plenty of water with this meal, though no heartburn or adverse effects were noted later, it was as I was enjoying the Carrots that a silver tray of Tacos and Salsa was presented, the tortillas unfortunately brought in from elsewhere and thus accounting for the low cost of just $2CAD each on Tuesdays, with the braised Meats highlighted by spicy Adobo Chicken while the combination of fibrous Mushrooms and crispy Kale was also well-balanced and tasty.<br/><br/>Disappointed that Tres Leches has been struck from the menu, especially as Native Tongues’ famous $5CAD Doughnut is really no better than what can be had at most mom n’ pop shops for a buck anywhere in North America, the sizable Alfajore was a far more fanciful finish, the buttery Shortbread Sandwich filled to overflowing with smooth Dulce de Leche before a dusting of Powdered Sugar and a roll in flaked Coconut.

Neat place nicely appointed, has a real nice feel to it,there were three of us on a Saturday afternoon ,they had their brunch menu on and of course we had the tacos, very tiny but flavourful, they were good but I thought expensive for what we got, service was slow, overall I thought it was ok neat place ,but it really didn't do it for me .
Mackstine
Server was extremely friendly and helpful. Her Service level stood out in making my visit a pleasant experience. We tried all the tacos and the chilaquiles. Chilaquile flavors were delightful and refreshing. For the tacos - can't say I loved the chorizo or the chicken tacos. The pork confit and the beef brisket were FANTASTIC. Their prices are ridiculously high though. Might come back for the pork and beef tacos on a taco night, but regular price is kind of not worth it. Its like they think our economy is doing well or something :p

Two tacos, two Margs and two small basket of chips and it was $65 with tip. $26 for two Margs is crazy! Good food but won't be going back

Just a heads up on our recent experience at this restaurant.   A business associate and I were planning to meet two colleagues for lunch.   We showed up at 11:30 to grab a table for four as the other party said they had just left the office and would meet us there shortly (which I believe is not uncommon for a business lunch in downtown Calgary).  <br/><br/>There was one party in front of us who were seated at a table, and we were next.  There was nobody behind us in line and the host would not seat us, as our entire party was not present.  I jokingly asked for him to check with the manager as I thought he may have been new or unaware that it probably would not have been a big deal to seat us in the empty restaurant.  To my surprise the manager confirmed that he would not seat us either!  I looked behind us to see if there was a huge mounting line-up I was unaware of.  Nobody.  <br/><br/>Anyways, we chose to go to another establishment where we could wait for our colleagues at a table where we could relax and have a drink.  I understand that this type of policy would be prudent where there could be a long line of paying customers and they wouldn't want to sacrifice "sales" in the event they had one person holding a table for 8 by themselves for a long period of time.  <br/><br/>I didn't think it was a smart business choice to turn away paying customers under these circumstances.  Not only did they lose that sale, I don't think this is a good establishment for me to plan future business lunches in due to the inconvenience.  Nor will I probably recommend them to other colleagues, I may bring it up in casual conversation as a laughable experience.<br/><br/>We just couldn't risk eating at a restaurant where the cooks could have been as inept as the manager.
David Hamilton
Just TRIED to go for lunch here, and they would not seat us in the completely empty restaurant, because we only had 2/3 of our party. SERIOUSLY?!? They may have great food, but I will never try this place again.
Hopelessly Hungry
Excellent service, gorgeous food, great margaritas and awesome atmosphere. Haven't enjoyed a night out like this in a long time. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I highly recommend it.

After attending the Stampede I needed some tacos and mezcal. Over the summer tacos are $2.50 from 10pm till close, which alleviates my pricing concerns from my first visit. Got the beef and pork, the former being the tastier option. Well worth a visit.<br/><br/>I'm a fan! Don't miss the Mezcalgarita, it's fantastic. Tacos are tasty! Even though it's a little pricy. Service was excellent. Will come back.

We loved the look and feel of the restaurant, along with the friendly, bubbly and attentive servers. A tad bit on the overpriced side considering how the tacos were a little smaller in size, but that won't stop us from coming back as they were super flavorful -- our favorite were the bean and cheese tostadas (yes seriously, bean and cheese, my boyfriend and I can't stop thinking about these). About an hour wait for our table for two on Friday night (maybe since it was a warm summer night and peak time), seems like a popular place. I would recommend going a little earlier in the evening if you're not wanting to wait!
KnitClub
Amazing amazing amazing. Great cocktails, knowledgable staff and great food. I always enjoy it if I'm up for the wait for a table. Highly recommend the corn dish - elotes!
Foodylicious
Their service is awesome and really stands out! Their corn is also amazing topped with cheese and sauce. This place is good for chilling late at night as they are open late. Atmosphere is also quite nice. Their Tacos are alright and a bit pricy though. This place did not live up to my expectations set by all the hype. There's much better Mexican food in the city with bigger portions and lower prices.

Came on a Tuesday to take advantage of their $2.50 taco specials! I was already warned beforehand that the tacos are fairly small... and they are.  Each one is good for about three bites but are filled with flavorful ingredients.  My group and I tried everything and my personal favorites were the beef tongue, carnitas (pork) and hongos (mushrooms).  I'm glad we got to try them at the special price because I don't think they're worth $3.95 each.  We also had the glazed donut (too sweet) and tres leches (did not like that it was soaked in horchata as opposed to milk) as our desserts.  <br/><br/>Overall good food but fairly pricey, and my Mexican coworkers say they're probably the closest to authentic Mexican cuisine in Calgary.

I have heard of this place many times and just haven't had the time to get there. But with a free Saturday night and friends in town and no one had been here, we could not be biased. <br/><br/>This is a very small restaurant. Maybe 20 tables if that. We didn't have much choice but a small table that we had to make do. They do not take reservations so there was no control over tables and influx. But nothing a round of drinks can't fix. <br/><br/>We settled with a variety of apps and some tacos. The menu being one sheet check off style. Tacos being $3.95 each. We ordered the confit pork, the beef tongues, and the mushroom. Although they did have an option for the frijoles-refried beans... It did not sound appealing so I settled for the hongos-mushroom. I did think about trying the ensalada DE pulpo -octopus tostadas... However the $14 price tag for one seemed a bit outrageous. The tortillas were soft, small, although not very warm. I cannot comment about the beef tongue personally, however one guest did comment it was oily and the pork was a bit bland. However, surprisingly the mushroom was the favourite. <br/><br/>We has the chips and quacamole, was a little disappointed. I like my guacamole to be much more flavourful. We all thought this one was bland. <br/><br/>The ceviche was my disappointment... I love ceviche and this one ruined it for me... I believe it to be the tigers milk as it states. The shrimp was cooked and was not cured through regular means of preparing ceviche. <br/><br/>Although it seems trendy and staff are super friendly... Not my favourite. I would come here for the drinks more than the food. Not much option for my diet.

Excellent choice for Mexican. Happy hour has cheap margaritas and appetizers. We liked the idea of build your own taco platter which let us try almost all the varieties. Not to mention the donut for dessert!

My mouth is drooling just thinking about the tacos from here. I came here with friends to check out taco Tuesday's and was just say I'll definitely be back again (soon I hope). Nothing beats $2.50 tacos! We decided to try them all. My favorites were the beef tongue, carnitas, chorizo and hongos. The chicken ones were my least favorite because they were on the bland side. The frijoles had a nice smoky flavor but I'd rather have the meat ones over beans. The donut for dessert was bigger than I expected and was on the sweet side. The tres leche cake was soaked in horchata but I prefer the kind soaked in condensed and evaporated milk. The place is very lively and loud. The bar stool seats are not that comfortable either. I wouldn't say the place is very kid friendly but they do have 2 high chairs which is a bonus. I can't wait to return for taco Tuesday's!

Great tacos in a traditional style. I especially enjoyed the refried beans version, though the beef tongue was pretty stellar to. Very good experience all around.

Hubby and I were in the mood for something different on date night. So I decided on Native Tongues Taqueria, to investigate their take on Mexican street food. I’ve been to Mexico once and sampled the street food in Loreto. There are so many styles of Mexican food; I’m not saying that this is even a fair comparison.

Super good tacos, tried the lengua, carnitas and polo tinga. Very tasty and flavourful! The best tacos I have had in yyc so far! Tacos are a little small but packed with rich flavour, definitely worth the buck. The chips and guacamole are so fresh! Never had such good guacamole before! Will definitely return to try more of their menu! Service is friendly, we were greeted right away.

This is probably one of the better Mexican restaurants in Calgary. It's an upscale take on Mexican food that uses different ingredients like beef tongue and lamb neck (both of which we tried and were delicious). They also offer mescal margaritas which are quite different but ridiculously yum. Our waitress was a bit all over the place, but it didn't really take too much away from the experience. The decor in the place is excellent too, it makes you feel like you're at an authentic Mexican restaurant (outside of the all inclusive resorts). They also make everything in house, which is very neat. Definitely worth checking out! Look for the weird little baby head on the liquor rack behind the bar!

If you are craving good Mexican food, try Native Tongues on 12th Ave SW. I was impressed with the pollo verde and carnitas tacos. The staff are awesome here - everyone is smiling and makes you feel great from the moment you walk in.

This was our second choice for dinner tonight but man I was mistaken! I have never tasted mexican this great and I have had my friend's Mexican mothers cook meals for me. The place is a little hipster but the flavor of the food made up for it. I ordered the chilquiles. It was so good, I wish they would sell the salsa Verde! We also got the family serving of pescadores mexicana tacos. I don't get trout where I live and it was a treat to taste fresh goodness. Definitely coming back before I leave.

Pros: The food is tasted pretty good, and the restaurant is beautiful.<br/><br/>Cons:<br/><br/>HORRIBLE service. Our server was incredibly rude, and messed up our order. No apologies, nothing, didn't offer substitutions or to refund us (the app she ordered us was 2x the price of what we actually ordered). Took over 30 mins to get our drinks and the wrong appetizer. Another hour or so before our 8 tacos arrived, and they were cold. Overall, for a $70 meal it was an absolute disappointment and we definitely won't be returning.

Went for taco Tuesday. Enjoyed my expensive margaritas and cheap tacos! The mushroom taco is the best by far. Also tried the beef tongue taco & it was tasty as well but the flavours were the most fresh with the mushroom.

Went with a party of 5, after the 1hr 45 min wait to be seated it just got worse and worse.. One of our appetizers came before the drinks, they were 25 min.. The birthday boy didn't get his almost until dinner was served... Then after finishing our dinner we finally got the other appetizers! The food was here or there, 50$ steak tacos were good, but the chicken tacos were mush... Not worth the wait or the hype. Terrible execution and service, mediocre food, long wait times, no reservations... Try Blanco or Anejo instead!

I love the tacos here, but they have a very limited lunch menu during lunch and happy hour and the price is quite high. The tacos from the Crossroads Farmers Market are just as good for better value. The mushroom and pulled pork are very tasty. Unfortunately I haven't been able to try the grilled options as they are unavailable until 6:00pm. <br/><br/>The seating is extremely tight and uncomfortable. There is no room to breathe and you are constantly bumped by servers and other customers. It seems to be a trend to squeeze as many people into a dining area as possible lately. <br/><br/>All in all, I'd rather go to Los Chilitos at the market and take my time and be comfortable while eating exceptional tacos for reasonable prices than go back to Native Tongues.

Loved this place. Can't say what I loved more the atmosphere the food or the drinks. Had the mushroom and the beef tongue tacos amazing. The pulled pork family style platter was perfectly done and the sauces spot on. Had the doughnut for dessert very very nice. Will definitely be coming back.
Liz
Amazing food. The tacos here are the best you will find, other than taking a trip down to Mexico! The service is ok but the food more than makes up for it. Great drink menu.

I just went to Native Tongues for the first time to catch up with a friend. The experience was amazing; phenomenal food, excellent drinks, and unmatched service. We had an exceptional time with our server Angela, she was fun, cheerful, attentive, and truly lovely. I highly recommend this place.
Laura
This is a great little spot for a delicious taco, I loved their family style pork belly tacos with pineapple. Although I got some relatively salty bites, the dish was actually quite delicious! Their Zanahorias (grilled carrots) were also really good. And I also liked their guacamole and chips. They don't take reservations and they fill up quite quick, so if you don't want to wait I suggest you go as early as you can.

The all around atmosphere was very cute and authentic. We had tacos and they were so good highly recommend! And the donuts are to die for 🙏🏻

I had my first experience at Native Tongues tonight and it was really good! <br/><br/>The atmosphere is very cute - lots of wood, patterned tiles and drapped lights made for a hip and urban atmosphere. The music was a bit inconsistent - sometimes very loud and sometimes not noticable but overall created a fun and exciting atmosphere.<br/><br/>My friend and I shared the guacamole to start - big portion and very tasty! We both had the carnitas, pollo, and chorizo tacos and all were very tasty. The carnitas was by far the favorite for both us. The tortilla tasted fresh and was a great change from your run of the mill flour tortilla. <br/><br/>My only issue with this restraunt was the chairs. We sat on the bar facing the street and after an hour sitting, it got very uncomfortable. If you have back problems, the bar stools might not be for you! <br/><br/>I will definitely come back to Native Tongues - for the carnitas and to try the family style plates. While the tacos are not massive, the flavour makes up for it!

Okay, so the first thing you need to know is that the food here is really good. I mean, the cooks here understand braising, they get that it's as much about texture as flavour, and the food shows it. The carnitas are toothsome shreds of perfect pork, sweet and subtle, and barely al dente with never any mush. The corn tortillas are springy little marvels, apparently made in house, and they cradle the various stews and braises without ever tearing, while remaining thin and delicate. They know their shit here, and it shows.<br/><br/>The second thing you need to know is these marvellous tacos are bloody expensive. They may be good, but at 3.95 for some of the smallest tacos I have ever seen, they certainly will not be qualifying as 'value meals'. It kind of defeats the purpose of what is supposed to be fast cheap street food for the masses, and while you may argue that these tacos are a lot more refined than their street food brethren in California and Mexico, the frank fact is that there are plenty of places down south that make tacos just as good, for an eighth of the price.<br/><br/>None of them are anywhere near Calgary, though, I have to admit that... My wallet will wince every time though.<br/><br/>As for the rest? It's a great room. Nice surroundings, tastefully decorated. I had a hibiscus margarita (the special of the day) which had a delicious sweet/sour  balance, but was a bit too smoky for my taste. The cocktail menu looks interesting, and the bartender on duty showed some obvious technical skill with a good japanese shake, and I observed tasting and correcting at least one cocktail... When the bartender is monitoring his own performance, you can count on good mixology. Staff were friendly, knew the menu, and were good at informing without pressure upselling. When I switched to water after my first cocktail, they were not only cooperative, but they made sure that water glass stayed full. It was actually some of the best barstool service I've had in Calgary.<br/><br/>This is a great place to go if you want a seriously good taco (They do family style charcoal grilled tacos as well, but they take 30-45 minutes to prepare, so I will try them next time), and a good craft cocktail. But either have just a snack, or be prepared for a big bill if you eat hearty. But like I said, damned good food.
Alexander Kominek
Good food, great service, but overpriced for the small portions you get. Drinks are expensive and there is no diet pop option. Atmosphere is fun.
Hitting The Sauce
I requested a tequila cocktail ($14.00), something “strong and serious” while L stuck with Pacifico. The bartender asked me if I enjoyed the drink. Yes, I did, thank you for asking. It tasted like something Donald Draper would approve, smokey and potent.

Loved the atmosphere of this restaraunt. It's small and the decor is great. Lots of communal tables so if that's not your thing get there early.<br/>The margarita was amazing. Strong with herbed salted rim.<br/>The tacos weren't anything special in my opinion. They were very expensive for wheat you get.<br/>Overall I felt it was a good place but overpriced. It's unlikely I would go back because of the price.

Started with a tostada. Ordered tacos de lengua, carnitas and pollo. All was really tasty but extremely over prices for the small portions. I understand the cost that it involves but never enough to charge those prices. Had to get a burger on the way home.

If you like authentic Mexican food that is fresh and tasty, this place should do it for you. The food was really good!. However, I have a few gripes:. They don’t take reservations. Ever. And if all the people in your party aren’t there, they won’t seat you. So, if there’s someone in your group who’s always late, this is not the place to bring them. There’s really no room to wait inside, so you’ll be waiting out on the sidewalk. Dress appropriately.
Carmela
Except for the great mushroom tacos, my overall experience was overwhelmed with how I found the place too crowded, dark and loud. Seated on stools at a large communal table, I found it hard to maneuver without bumping against those behind and beside me. Appies and tacos we ordered were hard to see due to low lighting; and conversations were hard to hear because of the blasting music.

Was able to make my first long awaited visit for lunch today. Love the feeling and decor. Very cool place. Love the open kitchen, the wood/coal fired grill. Our server was informative, bubbly. Had the carnitas. They were bang on. Felt like I was eating right off an authentic taco stand. I can't wait to go back with a group and order the menu. Everything looks amazing.

Tried this new restaurant and enjoyed the wine and the appetizers. Had the Chilaquiles and the hambugers.  Both were very good.  Also had the soft taco Lenqua and the Hongos.  Tasty but a little salty.  Service was ok but not very friendly.  Nice atmosphere and restaurant style.

Congrats all, we’ve ploughed through another week! I’m personally thrilled that it’s Friday. Whether you’ve got actual plans this weekend, or just plans to relax, one thing you should do is make sure you get a good meal in there somewhere. Luckily, I’ve got another recommendation for you.

Good food, cozy atmosphere without being too crowded.  Can be a little pricey for tacos, but the freshness makes up for a good portion of the pricing.<br/>Service is knowledgeable and attentive.<br/><br/>Great spot for celiac's, too (my daughter and wife have celiac disease).

Sat at the bar! The bar tender made the most remarkable drinks! Very informative. I leaned a lot about mescal. Loved the prawns and guacamole! Great tacos. Beautiful atmosphere! I will be back :)

A gem. Partner and I had lunch today (a bitterly cold Saturday, Jan 16); it was pleasantly buzzing but far from crowded so in we went. It was an absolute coup. We both ordered the agua du jour (it was jamaica, which they for some reason call by its English name of hibiscus but which is also called sorel in the Caribbean), and was sweet and very refreshing- you MUST drink sorel with ice as it's just too sweet and syrupy otherwise; this one was pretty much perfect. We ordered two tacos, one each lengua and carnitas. I had the carnitas. It was absolutely stunning. I was a little put off by their use of just one tortilla, but what a tortilla- thin and elegant house-made from house-made masa, it's tender and delicate and really like no other tortilla from any taqueria I've been to. The meat was rich and just fantastic. Partner reported that the lengua was similarly exemplary. For mains we both got the hamburguesa which comes with house-made potato chips, and oh oh ohhhhhhhhhh what a burger this is. Texturally- my god it does not get better. It TASTED amazing as well with this house sauce that's mayo based with spice and pickle. One of the, I'd say, three best burgers I've ever had in this city. Service was great, vibe was casual and comfortable for all groups (saw kids and seniors and all in between, all enjoying the experience). Look forward to many more visits!

I've been searching for solid tacos outside of Mexico for a long time, so when I heard about Native Tongues I was pumped to try it. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly put not saccharin staff. The decor was a vintage Mexican bistro style which I really liked. We ordered a few different types of tacos and some drinks. Food wise it was pretty average. I was honestly expecting more flavour and it didn't taste as fresh as I'd like. Overall I'm sorry to say but my search for quality Mexican food continues.
Sharjeel Butt
The food is relatively ok.... But everything is waaaaay overpriced. <br/>Beer was warm. <br/>Place was loud. <br/>Seating was uncomfortable. <br/>The tortillas tasted like store bought.
Cathy Lin
Unlike tacos de guisados which come in individual pieces, tacos al carbon is served in family style and takes 30 mins in preparation. Since neither of us had ever tried family-style charcoal grilled tacos, we decided to experiment and share a barbacoa de cordero
Cathy Lin
This place is usually packed in the evenings and take no reservation. If you visit at peaked dinner time, 20-30 mins wait is unavoidable. <br/><br/>The chilaquiles was great as a starter. If you go in as a big group, the family-style charcoal grilled tacos was recommended (though 30 mins preparation time is required). We ordered barbacoa de cordero to share among the 3 of us. While the lamb was delicious, I was disappointed that the corn tortilla tasted unpalatably stale and grainy, and the condiments (salsa verde & roja) were disappointedly mild and bland. <br/><br/>I would avoid any dishes that is served with soft corn tortilla and stick with the street foods and drinks.
ES
Pretty authentic Mexican. Went on opening weekend and they were busy, service was lacking but it's the opening weekend so you can't complain! I enjoyed the food a lot. The appies we got were delicious and pretty authentic from times I was in central Mexico. It looks like they're no longer on the menu, so that's kind of sad. But the tacos were very good and the price isn't horrible. I'd love to go back and try some more menu items.
Aaron Lajaro
Overall it was OK, but food was a bit bland, not that much taste... But I guess that is hard to control being far away from Mexican fresh ingredients.
Lara
Great atmosphere. Good waitress. Tacos were decent not as good as west coast taquerias, $1 too expensive. The mushroom one was my fav. The burger was delicious. A more delicious Big Mac. Yum! The donuts tho!!!!!!! Best donut ever.
Bennett Reusch
Great spot for some really interesting food. Had the zanahorias (carrots) appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. Tried the hongos (mushroom) taco and it was really good. The tortillas are homemade! The chorizo tacos al carbon were plated beautifully with cool accompaniments to come up with a really tastey dish. All that after some really good bourbon cocktails. Willcontinue to recommend this place.

Oh my gosh I love this place. Have been there twice for dinner and gotten take out once and it's tough to resist going back to their takeout window daily. <br/>Everything I've tried thus far is delicious. Had one server who was kind of awkward but maybe she was new? Bar staff is very friendly. Love the atmosphere.<br/>Did however order a margarita which wasn't listed on the menu (seems odd for a Mexican place) which ended up being 14$. Will stick to the Horchata in the future...

Definitely one of the best places for tacos in Calgary, really pleased with this one!<br/><br/>Lots of options for different types of meat. Individual sized tacos, as well as big sharing plates where you can build your own taco. I tried the lamb which was really tender and good but if you are too lazy to make your tacos, I recommend the cow tongue (it sounds icky, but seriously, try it!) and also the mushroom one.<br/><br/>The place doesn't take resos which is frustrating for a bumping place like this thus the reason I took off .5 stars.

Visited today for lunch. Its a great small venue. We were greeted, seated and made to feel at home. Our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered the chilaquilas and one of each of the available tacos (mushroom, bean, chorizo, pork and beef). All were great, fresh ingredients well cooked. To our surprise, the mushroom and the bean tacos were the bomb and so ordered another of each of those. A couple of glasses of horchata went perfectly and an hour later, we headed out, content and happy. Gracias Native Tongues!

Service, great. Food, excellent. <br/><br/>GF tacos, and other items. Food was so good.<br/>The infused water is a must try.<br/><br/>Love this place.<br/><br/>They should get a better sign, I drove by it twice, then walked right past it, when trying to meet friends there for dinner.
Callistalemay
Mostly flawless dinner and drinks! The ceviche tostada was amazing! A ton of delicious seafood and perfectly tangy. <br/>I tried 3 tacos, tongue, pork carnitas and mushroom. The tongue and the mushroom were to die for. The tongue was tender and melt in your mouth with just the right amount of salt. Unfortunately the pork carnitas were really really greasy. They had great flavour, but it was hard to ignore the grease. <br/>Tequila isn't my favourite so I had a humdinger cocktail. Excellent if you like a strong whiskey based drink. The bar staff is friendly and well trained, and the cocktail selection follows. <br/>All in all it was an amazing late night munchies spot. Will be back again for sure, and hopefully save room for the homemade old fashion glazed donut ...
Lindsay
Cute and modern atmosphere. The service is prompt with someone at your table explaining their menu works upon arrival. <br/><br/>I've been here twice, ordering tapa style both times. Although the grilled corn appetizer is overpriced ($8), it is absolutely delicious. Lathered in butter, perfectly citrus, piled high with queso fresco, this dish sets the bar high. This was easily rated best dish of the meal. <br/><br/>Onto the tacos. They're all in the range of $3.50-$4.00 which you'd normally pay for at the bar or something. No biggie. These 3 inch tiny guys are loaded with flavor. Each are worth a try. My favorites were the chorizo, carnitas, and mushroom.
Kelly Durocher
Was not impressed. Food was over priced and under delivered. I went for a birthday and they wouldn't seat us until our whole party was there even if we were only waiting for two people. They put us at a table that didn't have enough chairs. The place is not child friendly they only have high tables and stools with no backs. The stools are uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to sit in them for very long. I wouldn't go back I think there is too many restaurants in Calgary to have to settle for a over crowded restaurant with very expensive food and uncomfortable stools.

Went for lunch this week around 1130am. It is a perfect time to go before the lunch rush. My first time there by my coworker has been there a couple of times. We started with the chips and guacamole. It was fresh and in house made. $13 for it was a bit pricey but to say I have tried it at least it was good. We ordered a bunch of tacos to try. I ordered 1 of each of 4 different tacos. It was the perfect size and price is reasonable. My fav was the beef tongue (lengua) taco then the pork taco and then the mushroom one. Chorizo was my least fav but my other coworkers really liked it. Service was good. Finished off with the homemade donut made everyday. I got a bit of my friends and it was a nice way to end the meal. I would go back again

I went on a last minute whim, albeit early enough that we missed the dinner rush on a Sunday night. I love the ambiance in there - chill with a 'lax vibe. We ordered the Zanahorias and Ceviche Tostada for starters. I thought I would've loved the Ceviche Tostada, but instead the Zanahorias ended up being a favourite. Typically being indifferent to carrots, Native Tongue did the grilled carrots right. The crema and cilantro was an excellent pairing that helped make the dish what it was. It was a refreshing appy that made me wanting more.<br/><br/>After reading some of the reviews on here, I decided on the lengua (beef tongue) and hongos (mushroom) taco, both of which I loved. I can't really decide which one to be my favourite, as both were delicious and different in their own way. Writing this review right now is making me crave for them again. I can't wait to return!! Although, I'll forewarn those who visit that these tacos come at a slightly higher price tag of just under $4 per taco. Your tab will quickly grow if you arrive as a starvin' marvin.

Native Tongues is a taqueria that draws inspiration from traditional Mexican-style street cuisine. Located in a small corner of the Fairfield Inns and Suites, this restaurant is easy to miss, but definitely worth the visit. Walking in, I found the space to be decorated in a way that is reminiscent of traditional Mexican decor, with an urban element as well. The service was quite friendly, and she happily explained how the menus worked. My friend and I decided to try a few of their different tacos, and we were so impressed, that we ended up ordering more! My favourite so far would definitely have to be the carnitas taco, which was made with a pork confit that was incredibly flavourful, creating a savoury experience with each bite. All of the tacos are made in house, and cooked wood-fired, giving it an authentic Mexican taste. One thing that my friend and I found odd about our experience was that after ordering our food, the server asked if we wanted some chips and guacamole to be brought to our table, and we quickly accepted. However, we were both surprised that there was a $13 charge for the chips and guacamole, which the server did not mention. I noticed that each of the other tables also had a tray of chips and guac, and wondered if they were also approached in the same manner. So just a heads up if the server offers anything, there will likely be a charge. Overall, I would plan to come back and try some of their other menu items.
Jenny
Great food, nice environment for happy hours and get togethers with friends. The quality of the tortillas is amazing. The guacamole is a must order! A favourite is the beef taco as it had the best balanced flavour. <br/>Their horchata is so refreshing! Great to accommodate the heavier tacos. Looking forward to coming by again.
