Tremendous food, accommodating staff who will hang up your coat, and they are always eager to inform if you are new to this style of dining or any of the ingredients used. Try the Tempeh!
The people at the Coup are so pleasant and the good is to die for!!! This is a must I you have not eaten here before. They use healthy ingredients and are very welcoming and tend to your needs! Very friendly staff!!
I honestly don't like Eating out at all, but when I find something I like and that is healthy, I love it! These guys are amazing, I want to keep coming back! Worth the trip from Red Deer!
The waffles are a must!!! Crispy on the outside, but not too crispy that it is hard to eat and on the inside it's dense and soft and thick!!! Exactly how I like them!!!
Every time I go to Calgary I make time to eat at the Coup. It is always amazing, and this past experience didn't disappoint! The food, the staff, the atmosphere is all perfect! Save room for dessert. Seriously. Do it.
My favorite restaurant in Calgary: love the philosophy, the colors and the food is just amazing!! As a gluten free vegan, Im always happy to go there!! ;-) ♡☆
[Starters]
1) gyoza
2) chard
3) crispy cauliflower wings
WORTH The gyoza was the best in all the starters we had.
NOT WORTH: The chard dish wasn’t worth it and the cauliflower wings were nothing special
[Main Course]
1) Hotpot
Was pretty good, would give it a 3/5 as something I’d get in any other restaurant but this was a vegan dish so I guess that makes it something special. Missed out on trying the dragon bowl but will do next time
[Drinks]
1) Cuke Collins
2) blueberry fizz
3) kombucha gimlet
WORTH: the fizz and the gimlet were super good and worth it
NOT WORTH: cuke colline.. was pretty meh
[Desserts]
1) Alberta potato donuts
2) asparagus & pistachio cheesecake
WORTH: both were quite yummy but the cheesecake tops the donuts as they tasted quite different (yet really good!). The donuts, taste wise, was really good but it tasted normal like the dessert you can get at Denny’s.
Accompanied by and recommended by a dear friend we opted dine at The Coup one evening while in city. Contrary to expectations, the place churns out excellent vegetarian dishes with extensive selection of local craft beers besides serving regular drinks. My Greek Goddess bowl was excellent, flavoursome and filling too. So was the Spring Bud Ramen ordered by my daughter.
Pleasant ambience and friendly people adds to the experience for sure.
Though a bit pricey yet a place worth a visit even if you are an established carnivore!. Just a bit of advice, do make a reservation rather than just popping up...
The Coup is easily the best vegetarian restaurants I have been to. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed.
The staff is always very nice which adds to the positive experience.
I ordered the Upstream Burger with yam fries and a garlic aioli. The portion size was great for the price, and they give you a lot dip (so yummy)!
I also tried one of their fresh juices (apple, carrot and ginger) which was very refreshing and delicious. You can make your own by adding up to three ingredients!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, vegetarian or not! :)
I came here with a close friend of mine and we both have multiple dietary restrictions. The Coup was able to provide options for both of us, as well as the other two people that were with us. M friend and I ordered the tarttufo bianco ice cream sandwich, which is TO DIE FOR! 😍 I would honestly marry this desert - it was that good! What made it even better is that it's both gluten free and vegan so my friend and I were able to share it.
The coup is a beautiful little vegetarian restaurant on 17th ave. The menu is extensive and has tons of vegan and gluten free options. They proudly use fresh local organic produce when available and it’s always served up quick and delicious. The staff have been great every time I’ve come in, which makes the experience even more pleasant. I would have rated the coup higher but this last time I went in I found the prices to be higher and the portions were smaller than the last time I visited. Still, not a huge game changer. The cocktails are great too.
This was a first for me. A completely vegetarian/vegan restaurant, but I'm open minded and tried it. The food was really good and pretty flavourful. I was actually surprised by the flavour of the food. My favourite dish was the celery tart as an appetizer. The service was top notch. Two criticisms: 1. It did take a little too long between ordering the food and the food coming out to the table (around 30-40 mins) and 2. It was a bit pricey for the amount of food we did get.
The Coup is a good option for those Vegetarians/Vegans out there. As an omnivore, I was pleasantly surprised by how flavourful the food was, and I wouldn't be shocked if I did come back to try some other items from their menu.
So yummy. I can see why the ratings are so high. Everything I tried had so much flavour and I was extremely satisfied. I even took one of their vinegar shots and surprisingly liked it. The customer service was also great and super friendly. I am definitely coming back to try other things on the menu!
Just the loveliest place, Veg or not. The flavors are incredible, the portion sizes are great, the cocktails are delicious. The atmosphere is good vibes for sure.
I always find the food comes out so fast and hot, and the wait staff are so nice. Sometimes they get a little flustered because its a hot spot, but the food is absolutely worth it.
The eggplant sleeping bags, Tempeh Shawarma, and Quesadilla are must try's.
Also! Go. For. Brunch. The Messy Jessy is friggin life changing. (Pictured)
This was my second time at The Coup. I used it as a means to balance the grease of the Stampede midway. It is the real deal of restaurants.
Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Love that they setup tables with lots of water bottles. One waitress almost seemed excited to split our bill at the end of the meal. Such a change from many other places. Must be the kombucha 😉
Cocktails are well thought out and very delicious. Love that they're not your standard fare.
The table all ended up getting the ramen noodles or the hot pot. The ramen noodles were savory and served with a very bright and and fresh chilled sauce. The hot pot is citrusy and filled with a variety of soft and crunchy veg. Everyone enjoyed it all.
I have two minor criticisms that will not prevent me from coming back. 2oz is industry standard for $12 cocktails, not 1.5oz. The menu, while delicious, has basically not changed in the 2 yrs since I've been there.
Haven't you heard?!? Going vegan is possible... this place shows you that you don't need meats to have an EXTREMELY tasty meal... everything and I mean everything here is just outstanding. Couldn't give this place more love!
I really enjoyed the curried soup and the broccoli satay was also delicious. It was National Whiskey day so I ordered the drink special which was 3 different kinds of whisky, egg whites, lime juice, etc. It was pretty much a variation of a whiskey sour. It was tasty but $12 for a very tiny drink. Personally I thought it was overpriced.
Service was good. Food was tasty. Nice atmosphere. Overall good experience. Only con was that I personally felt it was a little bit too pricey for the food. You pay for the premium location and hip atmosphere. I would return
I have been here twice, had a salad bowl the first time which was good, second time I had falafel quesadillas which were a little dry and difficult to eat but were still pretty good.
I know a lot of people won't go here because of the vegetarian menu, but you have to give it a try. You won't miss the meat because every dish is full of big flavours. One of my favourites is the sweet waffle. It's big and fluffy and crispy on the outside. Then they top it with puréed squash, Beet slices, huge dollop of coconut cream, cashew something or other and granola. It sounded strange but enticing and I'm so glad I went for it. My absolute favourite waffle to date. Oh and the service and atmosphere was great too
This place had been on my radar for awhile and I'm so glad we finally tried it. It was GOOD. Even my meat eating husband was pleased. The atmosphere was really welcoming and enjoyable, the drink menu was huge (though we only had soda - root beer, yum!), and the food was excellent. We had the tempeh sticks to start, which were so good. I had the burger and yam fries, which weren't as good as the tempeh sticks but definitely still tasty. He had the falafel quesadilla, and was happy. The best part was feeling full off such good food!!! Will definitely be back.
Great little spot, with such amazing fresh food! If you are gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan the options are endless. They also have quite an extensive drinks and dessert menu to choose from! We chose to order and share two meals: the falafel quesadillas and the tempeh shawarma. The quesadillas were made with sprouted grilled tortillas and I chose the side rainbow green salad. The flavor combinations were amazing! The shawarma came in a large pita, and my friend chose the spicy soup as her side. The tempeh is marinated in a strong flavor that really stands out. Overall I have to say that the quesadillas were my favorite by far! Such a neat place, and a bustling atmosphere.
This place is really good. All the food is fresh and some nice vegetarian options. Servers were helpful and the enviroment was quite nice. We had pizza a noodle bowl, soup and some other things. All was very good and the portions were quite large.
Went here for lunch yesterday and I have to say i'm fairly impressed. A few years ago I went here and I thought it was bland and missing something (probably meat). Now that I'm older and trying to cut down on my consumption of animal protein, I have an appreciation for Vegan food. I had the Sprouted Peanut Tangle, I must say it was quite good.
As a hater of vegetables, The Coup is where I go for my weekly fill of vitamins. With bold flavours on the menu and unique daily specials, it's a winner every time. The location and (in my opinion) reasonable prices are added bonuses. For eggplant lovers, I recommend the bun-me, vietnamese inspired sub. The beach-front hot pot is also great if you're craving some spice. Only downside: it can get a bit stuffy in the restaurant so be prepared to be warm if you're seated closer to the kitchen.
J-Thug told us to try the scallops. The “scallops” turned out to be king oyster mushrooms ($14). The mushrooms are tea-smoked and pan-fried. At the table, hot dashi broth is poured all over the mushrooms.
The entire dish is a winner. The mushrooms have a similar texture as scallops. We used up the grilled red fife sourdough crostini to sop up all the delicious broth. The salad of seaweed and radish was lovely, clean with a taste of the sea.
Super impressed. Tons of flavor, beautiful presentation. Can't wait to come back again! I had the Magic Dragon Bowl with tofu, quinoa, and tomato achar roasted lemon sauce.
Every single time I have gone to The Coup I have had a delicious meal - and I'm not even a vegetarian! Went here for lunch with a friend last week and had the carrot, apple, ginger juice and the feature frittata. The juice was light and refreshing and the frittata was rich and delicious! It was a great meal and I found our server to be very friendly and attentive. Will definitely keep coming back.
The Coup is probably THE go-to eatery for vegetarians and vegans alike in Calgary. It could even convert some carnivores to a plant-based diet! Everything they have is very tasty (I ordered the buck burger and the falafel quesadillas). Their desserts are to die for, especially the chocolate torte! The Coup's not the cheapest place (think $15 for a dish), but they serve really excellent food! Highly recommended for vegans, vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike!
What a cute little restaurant! Absolutely love the design and overall vibe of the place. I went here for lunch with my auntie and I had the queen of greens salad and it was perfect. My auntie had the falafel wraps which looked amazing! The service was really great and accommodating. This is a place I want to keep coming back to to try every item on the menu!! Ahhh
If you're looking for a quirky vegetarian restaurant then this is the place for you - especially since Cafe Gratitude closed :'(
I wasn't overly impressed with the dishes I tried (falafel quesadilla, almond satay bowl, eggplant appetizers) so I thought it was a bit overpriced. The food was good nonetheless and quite creative.
Awesome food! A Vegan's Happy Place
I finally had dinner at the Coup. I'm in Calgary on business quite often, but haven't had a chance to eat here until now. I wish I had come sooner! The food was terrific, and the vibe was awesome. It's very cool to see a veg/vegan joint packed & hopping on a weeknight in Alberta! I had the king oyster mushroom "scallops" as an appie - fantastic. I had the ramen for my main, and the chocolate torte for dessert. I left a very happy, very full vegan! I'll be back. Often.
The Coup was the last stop on our poutine crawl during Poutine Week. I couldn't have the poutine (allergic to the mushroom gravy) so I tried the waffle sushi instead.
The sushi was green onion, pear, and ginger rolled with organic brown rice and grilled on a waffle iron, with a drizzle of ginger teriyaki sauce. It looked really good and the flavours were nice, especially the hint of ginger. The roll needed a little more green to brighten the flavour and definitely more sauce.
I do love a good vegetarian restaurant but I hadn't known this place existed until the poutine crawl so I'm looking forward to trying other items on future visits. There were some pretty crazy things on the drink menu I'd love to try next time too.
I love eating here. It's amazing that we don't have more vegetarian/vegan spots in a city of 1mill. They just revamped their breakfast menu and it looks amazing. I had the frittata with chickpea soup and was very happy. It was healthy, fresh, light and tasty. Can't wait to go back and try another dish.
Transitioning to becoming vegan has been a challenge when it comes to eating out...but thank goodness for The Coup!!! My favorite dishes are the Full Monte and Falafel Quesadillas...and you absolutely must try the Lemon Cashew Coconut “square”...tastes just like a real cheesecake!! And the Coconut Chai Latte is so incredibly delicious!!! Great atmosphere and super friendly staff!!
Two words falafel quesadillas! I dream about these! They are so delicious, flavorful and a good size. Food is on the higher end... But expected for local and organic (which is a bit unfortunate.. And noted that it's not the restaurants fault). Ambience could be warmer and updated. Vegetarian, local, and organic.. I always leave feeling a little bit healthier than I did when I walked in. Would recommend for casual lunches.
Why have I waited until now to try this place???
I guess because every time I walked by it's been packed-but now I know, rightfully so!
Vegans and vegetarians alike, I have never tasted such good food-well plated, healthy portions(and healthy too!) the variety of options made a birthday celebration fantastic. Try the ice cream sandwich, it can't be beat(like a chilly s'more!!) the sweet potato sticks were thick cut and well-seasoned-I'm still remembering the Asian noodles!!
I came here for the first time with my two daughters for bruch. My daughters had the Frittata and the Untraditional while I had the El Sobrero with a side of soup. Both my daughters liked their dishes. I loved the coconut curry soup; the El Sombrero though was too salty in my opinion and easily became soggy as I ate it. I'm glad to have finally tried The Coup but I would have to come back and try the other items before I can make a final decision about the place.
Side note: The chairs we sat on were wobbly so if you want to be on the safe side, check your seat first before sitting; else sit by the wall.
This place is amazing! Incredible food, wonderful atmosphere and friendly service. This has become my new favourite restaurant!! Highly recommend the Vietnamese sub. You could definitely bring a meat lover here and they would not be sad there was no meat.
I am no vegetarian but I am a big fan of good food & the coup has a great breakfast, have only been there for breakfast. I tried the untraditional breakfast & the green eggs no ham breakfast. The green eggs no ham was delicious it had a pumpkin pesto with broccoli, swiss chard, cheddar cheese, basil & pine nuts for around $15. I was very nice with a fresh flavor. If you are looking for a vegetarian version of bacon & eggs you have to go with the untraditional the comes with eggs, cooked how you want, mushroom bacon, if I remember right was oyster mushrooms, hash brown, baked beans & whole wheat toast. I got my eggs over easy & where cooked perfect the whites just set. The hash browns with herbs with where nice & baked beans where very tasty in a bbq sauce. The bacon mushrooms where fantastic loved them so much. I enjoyed my meal so much I bought there cookbook to try & try some of there recipes at home.
I haven't been here in probably 7 years. The food here was delicious and the service was great as well. This place filled up fast over lunch hour so I'm glad we got there early. The noise level gets pretty high.
The place is decorated nicely with a fresh herb garden wall so that was a nice surprise.
I ordered the Queen of Green salad and it was very refreshing to experience a new and pleasantly different flavour. The capers were huge and like nothing I have tasted before. Quite salty but also very tasty rolled in paprika. The kale pieces were too large and should be cut into smaller pieces. Overall the flavours are good.
I won't be waiting so long to come back again.
I loved the food and service but it was a little confusing. Went in early between lunch and dinner service and a lady came up and just looked at me and my friend I moved out of the way thinking she was trying to leave and realized she was a worker so I said table for two, than said no and I had to ask why before being explained there was a pause between lunch and dinner so I left and came back. When there the second time we weren't sure if we should sit ourselves as there was no signs and a woman had directed two others before us to a place to sit when asking her as she walked back if it was seat yourself she simply looked at us and walked back so we sat ourselves. The food was really good would go back again, right after we finished we where brought the bill before being asked if we wanted dessert; also didn't ask if it was seprate or not just put it on one bill. Assuming the till was at the front and waiting ten minutes we headed to the door thinking the till was up their. The server ran to us and pushed a debt machine in our hands stating, we should have waited at our table and now had to awkwardly pay standing in the middle of the restaurant. Really if there was some signs, or simply the staff communicated better it would had made the place ten times better. Nothing wrong with the food best vegitarian food I've had just the staff. (Well besides the male server who always answered our questions and was super polite at explaining things the woman server was not).
Loveeee the food here. I'm vegetarian and my friend is vegan so we visit here all the time. The ingredients are really fresh and the taste is always delicious. Service a little slow but worth the wait!
I love it here! The tempeh shawarma is great as well as the dragon bowls. Any features they have are almost always phenomenal.
The service can be kind of slow but being that it's all homemade I come prepared for a longer than usual lunch or dinner. They seem to have gotten faster recently. Great food to takeout as well.
Ah The Coup, I absolutely love this place because it demonstrates how eating Vegetarian isn’t boring and flavourless. Lately, I’ve been losing my sweet tooth for the generic desserts, but here I tend to binge a tad. I was overdue to have a date at The Coup with one of my girlfriends’, and we decided to work on our presentation here.
Great place, they cater to a very picky crowd and seem to do it wonderfully. Their values and food are top notch. I love this play because it's not just a restaurant, it's a lifestyle
One of my favourite spots and I always get excited coming back. The food is so fresh, delicious and visually appealing. I don't miss the meat at all and it shows that eating well isn't boring! Had the Bun Me which was so flavourful and the tortilla was so crunchy with the soft and delicious hash browns. Great with hot sauce! Also got the greenhouse salad. So fresh and delicious. Of course had to get dessert. We went with the lemon cashew square, which was round, but square sounds better. So smooth, delicious and I didn't feel guilty after. Loved the coconut pieces that came with it. Also, tried their London Fog SO good! The vanilla bean is so prominent and the earl grey is strong which I absolutely love!
Love , love, love coming here! This has been one of my favorite restaurants in calgary for the last 5 years. I used to go every Sunday night for over a year and never once got tierd of their wonderful food. And honestly I just want to thank them for making some of my "carnivor" friends realize that vegitatian food and really good food can indeed be 100% one and the same. And I want to highly recommend the carrot cake they have on right now, honestly one of the best deserts I've had in calgary.
AMAZING! Wonderful knowledgable staff and bartenders. The food is amazing every time. I'm celiac and lactose intolerant and there are many options for me here! Highly recommend
Returned to the coup for a birthday dinner and was finally able to enjoy the experience without having to tend to my toddler. Started off with the lavender lemonade with beet juice, and honestly it wasn't my favourite. It could have used some sweetness and more lavender. Appetizers consisted of the buffalo cauliflower and eggplant blankets. Both were tasty, but quite pricey for what you get. The chickpea batter on the cauliflower could have also been crispier, the cauliflower more tender, and unfortunately the flavour of the eggplant was masked by the strong pesto filling. For the main course I had the beach-front hot pot. It had beautiful colours and the flavours were good. My only compliant was that it could have used more noodles as it was pretty saucy. My husband had the veggie burger, which was really tasty. Overall the food was good, but it seemed quite pricy for what you get.

Finally had the chance to checkout The Coup. The ambience is awesome although not ideal for young babies - they don't have high chairs... Despite me trying to fight my 8 month from knocking over everything on the table the overall experience was pleasant. I had the eggs Benedict and it was really tasty. I wish I could have finished my plate but my little munchkin was getting impatient and we had to dart out quickly. Next time I will try something vegan. Oh and if you haven't tried the Vietnamese coffee, go for it! It's a little on the sweet side and for $7 it may seem expensive but it's so worth it!
what I can I say.
Food, Service and Atmosphere were all great!
we enjoyed the quality a lot!
the drink menu was unique and stellar.. perfect bevys for a Saturday afternoon.
thanks to The COUP for an awesome brunch.
well Def be back again
My first time here and it was such a refreshing experience. Seeing hostesses and servers dress uniquely set a very comfortable and relaxing environment. Arrive early or you'll have to wait. I got the beach front hot pot and it is so flavourful and had tons of vegetables and lot of edamame for protein. The dessert was to die for, the oatmeal peanut butter ice cream sandwich with tofu ice cream. Yes... Tofu!! Hesitant and first but wanted another one. To drink I had the Italian soda and all the flavours were just right. A new place worth trying if you're interested in vegan/gluten free meals.
I've been there several months ago and service was great as well as the food. Good portions and tasty. Busy so expect a bit of delay but it's worth it!
First time back since the expansion...the new dining room is gorgeous! I had the poacher (eggs Benedict) and it was yum yum yum :) the hash browns are not as good as their Rosemary potatoes however. The over experience was pretty good but I wouldn't say outstanding...so when it came time to pay, I found it quite obnoxious that the machine presets to 20% top and the other option doesn't do anything!!! I would definitely ask the server next time how to change that as I would say 20% would be for exceptional service...and we received just average.
Servers will go above and beyond for you! Definitely would give a 5.0 for them!
Food is very hipster, light, and clean. I highly recommend the Dragon Bowl! After I ordered it, I had 2 different tables ask to have what I was having.
However, there's nothing special about the food. Maybe I'm too used to excess salt and MSG, but it lacked a lot of flavor. Healthy, but nothing special.
This is a very nice restaurant and the servers know the menu very well. Not being a vegetarian myself did take away from my enjoyment of the meal as a whole. This is a great place for vegetarians but someone who eats meat may be left feeling hungry.
I consider myself a pretty big carnivore and definitely avoided salad for the first 20 years of my life. The Coup turned me onto vegetarian fare done properly. The dragon bowl is spicy and full of healthy goodness. They also have a lot of great wines available.
Excellent food! My wife is a vegetarian so it is refreshing to go somewhere she can choose anything on the menu. We'll go here for a special night out.
Amazing food! Authentic and organic! If you enjoy fresh cooked food and organic prepared food, this is your place.
I have gone here numerous times for breakfast. Every time I get there fratadda & fresh soup of the day as well as there smoothie. A great filling breakfast.
Well worth the wait and time getting down there on 17th ave.
Friendly people working there also in a newly renovated space.
I love this restaurant. I try to come here every time I am in Calgary. Great food and customer service. My favourite dishes here are the dragon bowl and the ice cream sandwich.
this is a great place for breakfast and the new renos are great aswell. i come here often and very get bored of it. the food is different, tasty and fresh! great veg options!this is a great place for breakfast and the new renos are great aswell. i come here often and very get bored of it. the food is different, tasty and fresh! great veg options!
Heard such good things about this restaurant that I had to try it. Absolutely delicious vegetarian food. Even my husband who complained about going to. Vegetarian restaurant loved it.
Had the falafel quesadilla and the flavours were perfect together. My husbands lentil peanut satay stir fry was creamy and flavorful without being overly spicy.
Prices seem a bit high but once you've had the quality food they are just right.
Great atmosphere. They offer a specialized menu that is hard to find. I had the Magic Dragon Bowl with tofu & quinoa, it was very good except there was a bit too much peanut satay sauce which was overpowering. I've had the Bun-Me sandwich and Quesadilla in the past, also great choices!
Amazing Customer service and appreciation, Fantastic food alongside a great environment which made our experience so pleasant and our tummies super happy with all the wonderful vegan choices !! Loved it!
A filling lunch made with fresh ingredients. Grilled Teahouse Sandwich is a great try for a veggie-filled meal and with a great crunch.
Looking forward to coming back!
Impressed!. I was impressed with the Coup's menu - higher end flavours but a slow-food feel. The cocktails and drinks looked devine. I had a spicy (Korean?) pita (instead of the bun) crusted eggplant sandwich. The flavours were great, though not as foreign as I would have expected, or as hot. The rosemary fries were nothing special; I should have gotten the salad. The real clincher was the gf, vegan, raw lemon cashew tart for dessert. It had all the right texture and flavour. This restaurant was veg done right (or like I'd do at home with unlimited prep time)!
Great food, great atmosphere. Yesterday we went to Coup, and it was amazing. I had the dragon bowl with spicy almond sauce, and it was wonderful. Everything was perfectly cooked, it was spicy and flavourful, and it was beautifully presented. The server was great, providing suggestions and making us feel very welcome.
I would highly recommend this restaurant
I’ve never heard of The Coup until my sista brought me here for brunch on a Saturday morning. We were in luck – no line (unheard of for Saturday brunch in Calgary) but we were seated promptly and able to order right away. They have an outdoor patio with a few chairs for people to sit and people watch but it was still on the cool side, so no one was eating outside just yet. The interior is super slick – open air, modern and gives off a cool, hipster hippie vibe without trying too hard to impress. Me likey.
Went there for brunch and fell in love with its vegetarian dishes. Didn't know that vegetarian food could be so amazingly delicious! Loved the iron board, full monte and granola! Will be back again.
Amazing, delicious, crave worthy food. I'm not a vegetarian but the meat is definitely not missed on the menu. From the appetizers to the desserts I have never eaten something that I didn't enjoy!
I love this place. Went here multiple times before the renovations and it was delicious. After the renovations it has just gotten better!!!
Service is wonderful. I have had multiple servers on numerous occasions and all of them have been great. Attentive, ready to answer questions, quick. Simply amazing service consistently.
Food is amazing. Had the frittata recently and it was so tasty. Cauliflower, fennel, goat cheese, yum! The savoury waffle is also really tasty. I can't wait to have it again but I keep trying other things on the menu. So many great looking option I want to try them all!
-----21 Mar, 2015-----
WOW!. Went to the Coup recently and it has been renovated and is just beautiful. Had the savoury waffles for breakfast with honey and truffle. The waffle was topped with mushroom and fresh arugula and it was SO DELICIOUS! Also had an americano, great coffee. I can't wait to go back.
My friend also loved their breakfast but I can't remember what he ordered because I was too busy doting on my waffle.
Even though we went in on a Sunday morning we were seated promptly. Service was friendly and our food came quick. Will absolutely be back.
Nice option for vegetarians, but not as good as you can cook at home.. I had a great time at the Coup with a tasty Radler type drink. It was busy, kitchy, reminded me of San Francisco and the service was sufficient. I will return to taste other dishes in order to see if some taste better than others.
Wonderful experience. My SO and I ate here the other night and had a fantastic experience. We sat at the bar, the bartenders were helpful and attentive but not over bearing. I had the hot pot and my SO had the jerk pizza, both were excellent. Cannot wait to go back.
Kind dining. I used to visit here all the time when I lived in Calgary. Can't wait to come back. Great fare and atmosphere.

Awesome. I'm not even vegetarian and this place is one of my favourite restaurants in the city.
I was invited here by my vegan friend...I probably would not have picked it myself. I am surprised to say that I had one of my favourite meals in Calgary. Great flavour and seasoning. I will be back.
Homemade vegan may be better. My husband the meat eater took me, the vegan here to surprise me for date night. Food was really yummy, although nothing that can't be created at home. Cocktails are outrageously over priced.....service is really slow and not sure who our sever actually was?
I love the Coup!. I LOVE the Coup! And I am so glad it is open again after the renovations! I think the renos look great.............. but, I miss the Meet! The Meet was such a cool lounge with the treed wallpaper, unique sitting areas and I really liked the DJs they had in there as well. While I still absolutely love the Coup and 100% agree they needed a bigger restaurant space (and I love the new restaurant space), the Meet was so unique!
I still love the food, the staff, and the atmosphere and will always be a regular, but I hope if there's ever anyway the Meet could be open somewhere on 17th with the same everything my life will be complete.
Here's to hoping...
Happy that it's back!. I waited for what seemed like forever for The Coup to reopen its doors. So happy to see the changes - beautiful space, fun atmosphere and a couple new additions to the menu! I had the new greens bowl with spiralized zucchini and greens with an egg over top. Delicious dressing, I would order it again. Gluten-free, dairy-free and awesome! I've been going to The Coup for ages and have always enjoyed the food.
For vegetarians and meat eaters alike. My meat eating boyfriend and I the vegetarian had date night last night and surprisingly my boyfriend chose to go to a vegetarian restaurant. Our server was great, the wine bottle the use for water is a great touch and both of our meals we got were fantastic. As a vegetarian that is gluten and lactose free and reacts to anything deep fried and doesn't eat anything junk food except dessert of course, often when I go put its difficult to find something to eat that isn't a salad. I rarely like salad. when I eat I need something substantial, that will hold me down for a few hours, something that's not a salad. At the coup I had aol much to choose from that I could eat. my boyfriend ended up getting the Vietnamese sub and I got a burger. I ate half of my burger and a few yam fries and was stuffed and we both lived out meal. And I get to revisit that meal again today since half is in my fridge. great experience at the first vegetarian restaurant I've been to in Calgary. very warm and cozy and I love how filling their meals are and that they grow their own herbs. A+
Good Food and Service. I had a good experience here. I thought the menu was great and we had really good service. Prices were decent. The only down fall would be that you will definitely have to wait for a table. Will go back again sometime.
Great Food.. The first time I came to the Coup, it was for my friend's birthday. The service was a bit slow that day, but we had a lovely meal. I had the Beachfront Hot Pot, and it was really good. Nice and light, and the taste of lime gave a slight acidity to the dish. They even brought a complimentary sorbet for her, which was thoughtful. I came back a couple months ago with my family because my brother recently became a vegetarian, and raves about everything here. We had the Warm Goat Cheese Spread, which was amazing. I had the Noodles of Contribution and my mom had the Wild Stack. Both dishes were excellent, and were very generous portions. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I went here for dinner and can say that we really enjoyed it. Service is excellent here with friendly and helpful servers who are always able to offer good suggestions and are happy to swap or adjust things to your liking. Food is amazing and is perfect for those that are vegan or plant based. The flavours are incredible and you can't get enough of it. We will definitely be back to keep trying different things on the menu.
Being vegetarians is not easy most times when we want to eat out. Coup has many Vegetarian and vegan options. The food was delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly. I felt food is little pricey although the portions were big. Overall our experience at coup was very nice.

This wasn't my first time eating here, and definitely won't be my last.
Even though it's not a fully vegan establishment, a good amount of the menu is or can be made to be (which is highly appreciated).
My meal was excellent and I usually like to try most of or an entire menu before leaving a review, but I think it's safe to say this is a solid spot that I'll be returning to.
The food is great, the drinks are unique, and the music sets a nice vibe to go along with the decor. I'm looking forward to trying out the space come summer.
Additionally, I think this is one of the best spots in the city to come to if you want to introduce anyone to plant based cuisine.
About out to my super cool server Emelia, she deserves kudos for doing a great job; and also to the kitchen staff who got everything out perfectly.
I really enjoyed my time there and can't wait to be back and recommend it to others.
Easily in my top 🖐🏿 spots for a "✌🏿e g a n" to treat themself.
My first ever vegetarian experience was at The Coup! I went there when visiting Calgary and absolutely loved it.
They serve a welcome shot (shrub shot) which really helps with digestion!
I got Grilled Treehouse Sandwich with Tofu and sweet potato wedges. The portion was for 2.
** Note that they charge $2 for dipping sauce and it’s NOT worth it!!**
One of my favorites for over a decade. So aware and accommodating for food sensitivities and allergies. Great variety of menu that anyone can find something they love! Fresh, healthy and delicious. Ambiance and service are both fantastic. Cocktails are exceptional as well
We had an absolutely amazing lunch at The Coup today!
I let my wife pick our lunch spot, and I have to say I was nervous when she picked the all vegan / veggie joint... I was WRONG.
To start the service and staff are so kind and helpful I just can't rave about them enough. Our server was Olive and she absolutely deserves a special shout out - you were so kind and took time to explain the menu to us (mostly me) thank you so much.
The food was, and this is coming from a BBQ / steak girl, FANTASTIC. We had the Satay Bowl and I enjoyed a big bowl of housemade daily soup (sweet potato and onion) with some yummy sour dough. Where the heck is the picture of the soup? I ate it before she could get a picture!! I can't wait to try the Treehouse Sandwich next time.
In short if your wife / partner / friend WHOEVER asks you to try the Coup and you're nervous because vegetarian or vegan isn't your thing - DO IT it's so worth it. Tasty food is tasty food and The Coup has got it in Spades!
Definitely returning. The shawarma is AMAZING. It is better than any meat shawarma I have had.
We also ordered the regular benedit. They messed up my soup. I was told it's tomato soup but came out to be coconut chicken and that happened to be my least favorite thing. The crossiant was quite oily, thin cut. The egg was cooked perfectly.
Shawarma is perfect though
