Great full menu of both sweet rice cake, shaved ice and parfaits and waffles! Contrary to the other reviews, I received excellent service, the food came out kind of slow but it was delicious! A little on the sweet side for my taste but overall, it was a great dining experience. Looking forward to going back one day.
Midam Rice Cake House is located on North Road in Burnaby. It is an authentic Korean cuisine. They make their own rice cakes.

Opened for less than a month is the second location of Midam Cafe & Bistro in Richmond on Garden City Rd. This location was previously a hotpot place but Midam completely transformed the interior. Who knew basketball and food would have something in common? . Quite a bit of parking at this plaza as I think the neighbouring restaurants have yet to open.
If you are a big fan of Korean rice cake, this restaurant will definitely fascinate you by their full menu of both savory and sweet rice cake. Â Other than the rice cake desserts, they also have incredible selections of shaved ice desserts, parfaits and waffles. Â However, I do agree with other reviews that they really need to work harder on the services. Â They were nice and polite but definitely lack of servers. This place is located in koreatown next to Hannam supermarket.
All three of us ordered parfaits, and they were all good. They were fairly priced around 8$ bucks a piece.
There is a lot of basketball paraphernalia being used to decorate this place. It's inappropriate and unbefitting of a dessert cafe.
Our table was wobbly and sticky and our utensils were mismatched.
Service was friendly.
This place could be so much better if management put more attention to the customer experience

Today we couldnât just go to a restaurant, we had to travel across four cities, to only end up at a place I have already been to a handful of times. After attempting dinner at two other places, that proved to be a bust; I wasnât willing to leave my meal to chance. This is one of my favourite Korean restaurants. So when looking for a sure fire meal, I knew I was in safe hands here. What I have yet to figure out is the theme of the place and why it exists. For those who have been it is easily described as, âthe one with the basketball themeâ. You either get it or you donât. We didnât, but we liked the food just the same. I imagine the decor as part of the ownerâs personal memorabilia collection. But either he ran out of showcase space at home, or his wife demanded that he find a new place for all his action figures and jerseys. Either way, they found their way here to be admired and appreciated, and expanded upon. To give you a taste: Kobe Bryant cut out greets you mid dribble at the door, spot lit Michael Jordan posters hung over the coffee bar, NBA branded showcases were home to high tops and ball caps, and we were seated under the net of a court regulated basketball hoop. Even the washrooms were themed. The divide between menâs and womenâs was âNBAâ and âWNBAâ, with balls crowning the individual stallâs toilet, and posters and decals covering its walls.
This place is popular with the younger crowd and has a great selection of desserts. We came here for a late dinner and ordered a variety of dishes. The dishes were reasonable. Especially the japchae. We didn't try the desserts but will definitely try those the next time we come by.
Rice cake with bean flour & apple sauce: I wanted something sweet that day, which is usual for me because I would take savoury over sweets usually. Sadly, my options were limited seeing that I canât have dairy, so I settled for the rice cake from the recommendation of the server.
This was a very odd dish, and was not my cup of tea. It wasnât bad at all, but I was expecting the rice cake to be sweet.

Midam is a Korean restaurant located in the corner of the North Road Centre. It may be difficult to find because it's so tucked in, but keep an eye out for the rainbow coloured sign. When you walk in, you'll know you're at the right place if you see a bunch of basketball wall decors, hoops, and Kobe Bryant.
Midam serves a great variety of desserts, but they have meals as well. After trying a handful of different bingsu (Korean shaved ice) places, their Black Sesame Soy Bingsu remains my favourite. It's a perfect balance of refreshing, sweet and indulgent, with the nutty soy milk shaved ice, black sesame icecream (sometimes they use vanilla, be sure to ask for sesame!), black sesame coated rice cakes and nuts. They also have many other flavours available, but I would recommend adding an extra $2.50 for milk ice. It gives the entire dessert more richness and flavours. The Green Tea shaved ice is another memorable flavour. The shaved ice is big enough to be shared between 2-3 friends.
I'm looking forward to try more of their savoury dishes, as well as parfaits, waffles, and rice cakes.

This is a good place to have a night of shared food and drinks with friends! But beware the service, getting someones attention/to come check on you is a bit of a struggle.
Their carbonara chicken is my guilty treat and most of their bingsu are a good summer dessert with rice cakes that taste fresh and perfectly chewy. Some things are a bit pricey but most dishes are meant to be shared!
They have a good variety of korean alcohol, including bokbunja and yoghurt soju, which is delicious but a little overpriced considering the yoghurt/soju ratio in my opinion
