Review Hanwoori Korean Restaurant - Burnaby

Jason Cheong
Delicious food and generous portions for what I ordered. Nice spacious booths. Awesome side dishes with even the most basic main course dishes. They use call buttons on each table for their servers and I never had to wait long after pressing for someone to stop by. Will definitely be back!

Awesome food, quick and friendly service. Very attentive. Food was pricey but good. Bibimbap was about $16. All else was $20+ to $30+ each. Busy so come early. Our go to place for Korean food in Burnaby.

First time in this Korean Restaurant. We ordered seafood hotpot on my husbands birthday , it was an early dinner. It was served right away and service was really good. 6 appetizers were included in the food we ordered. We were not able to finished everything. The menu said it’s good for two persons but it’s actually for 4 persons.

A few of us came here for the first time based on the positive ratings. The Korean foodies that were with me felt the food was above average at a great value. We ordered the following with ratings out of 5 stars (1 star being the worse to 5 stars being the best) Gom Tang (slow simmered beef and bone marrow broth with noodles and brisket) – 3.5 stars – just enough flavour at $$13.95 Hot Stone Pot Galbi Bibimbap with 3 side dishes (assorted veggies with prime beef ribs in a stone pot) – 4 stars – slightly cooked the beef too long as it was a bit tough to chew. The best part was the crispy crunchy rice that is stuck to the bottom of the stone pot. Tasty at $19.95 Black Bean Noodle (diced pork & veggies in black bean sauce) – 3 stars – small pieces of pork. Not wowing at $11.95. Original Korean Chicken (deep fried chicken in Korean style sweet chili sauce) – 5 stars – big pieces of chicken that was tasty and cooked to perfection. Sauce wasn’t too hot. Good value at $28.95. For the regular dishes and certain dishes, you received small side dishes that would accompany your Bibimbap or Gom Tang. No one was in the mood to try Korean BBQ mainly due to the price. Not all of the dishes arrived at once which was too bad. You can make reservations. There’s limited parking in front of the restaurant but plenty of street parking on Imperial. They’re open 11 am to 11 pm. The place seemed to be the locals favourite. We doubt we’d be back.

I've come here a couple of times. The food is excellent. I love the tofu seafood hotpot, which I always order. They can get busy with short wait staff. But the food is worth it. The raw beef tartare is also very good, which they serve with asian pear. I recommend this restaurant.

Had the combination dinner for 2 and it was amaze-balls! Everything was delicious, especially the sweet little potatoes! They were so busy and still kept really great service too. Highly recommend! :)

The food is good, Bosam is seasoned and cooked just right. Beef stew is light yet flavourful. The fried rice has that smoky wok flavour but is a bit oily. They get busy and the service is next to none, shot glasses weren’t cleaned properly, both sets of glasses we got still had stains on it.

Really good KBBQ but pricy!🥩 I've been here about 3 times total now over the past few years. Everytime, I'm extremely happy about the quality of food but not so much the bill and service. It's definately one of my go-to for KBBQ in Burnaby if I know I want good food. However the price is always quite expensive when it comes to the bill... expect about $40 per head (assuming coming I'm as 4+ group)

Good food. Understaffed. Combo A BBQ - 5/5 - Great! Just what you expect. Seafood pancake - 5/5 - Lots of seafood in this pancake. Would do again Ginseng chicken soup - 3/5 - Not much ginseng taste. They only had 2 to 3 waitress/waiter for the whole restaurant of 20+ tables. They were way overworked.

Food-awesome! Service not bad, seems understaffed on a busy Mother's Day dinner. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I liked everything about it! Great food, excellent service!

After squash, we were ready to eat somewhere nearby. Driven by Hanwoori Korean Restaruant several times so we finally decided to give them a try. It’s next door to a random automotive repair shop. We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 7:15pm) and the place was packed. The inside consists of 6 booths and four larger areas where you sit on the floor to eat. Place was packed so we put our names down; we ended up waiting about 25 minutes for a booth. Service is fine; if you want something, just press the button on your table.

The food we received here was solid for the visit. For such a big party (10 adults and 5 small children and babies), we were impressed by the food quality and the attentive service. We didn’t have BBQ as we didn’t want the kids crawling around the sizzling hot grill, but I would like to come back for a BBQ feast. The restaurant was a regular in the “Best Korean” category at the Restaurant Awards. But they didn’t care to do anything innovative to keep up with the dining trends. However, if they are keeping the customers happy, that’s all it matters.

Be prepared to wait as there is always a line out the door. The food is decent, but like most Korean places it is over priced. Service was not bad. We might do take out if ever in the area but would not come back to eat in.

Very disappointing experience. Where do I start with this place. Firstly, upon entering there were employees or servers acknowledging us or anyone else that arrived; there were 3 servers working that night. There was a booklet on the table where we were suppose to write down our name and party size. A sign or instructions for this reservation book would have been nice. Thank goodness, We didn’t wait too long for our table which was very nice. Our food order of seafood hotpot came out pretty quick. We blissful ate our food until we noticed we needed tools to crack open the crab legs. We pressed the doorbell button on our table for a server. After a few nervous minutes, we just gave up on the doorbell button and finally flagged down the server. She seemed surprised that we asked for tools to open the crab. She came back with nut cracking tools so our molars were thankful. Although, It would have been fun trying to crack the crab legs and claws with our teeth or banging then on the table like cavemen. Maybe it was an off night for the restaurant but I have been there in the past where the service was better and prompt. I also noticed that none of the servers tonight were happy tonight either.

came here during weekend lunch after church, ordered something that i craved, jajangmyun and tangsuyuk i think that's how you spell it, so the jajangmyun black bean paste noodle, is good i don't think you can mess up that one, and the tangsuyuk is deep fried pork with vegetable, defintiely have the sweetness from fruit and vegetable. overall if you're craving for korean food i think this location will be satisfy your craving. definitely worth dropping by for a simple meal

During a particularly snowy portion of December, where one would barely be able to see the ground in front of them due to the immense snowfall, some friends and I had previously made plans for dinner and karaoke. We decided that snow or not, we were going to follow through with our plans! The first stop, some warm yummy Korean eats.

Hanwoori Is located on Imperial Street (a block away from Kingsway). They have a decent size parking space.

We try Mul Naeng Myun 冷麵 and Soontofu Jjigae.
Mul Naeng Myun is a buckwheat noodle in cold beef broth, topped with sliced beef, pickled radish and halved boiled egg. The noodle is very tasty and pretty chewy. 🍜

Soontofu Jjiga is a soft tofu stew with baby clams, shrimp, and pork in spicy broth. It is severed in a hot stone pot, and it is filled with lots of tofu. Delicious! 😋
We enjoy both dishes. We take off a point because they only allow one time refill on the side dishes, but we definitely will go back and try their Korean BBQ.

Food: 🍽🍽🍽🍽 Should Try!
Service: 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳
Price: 💲💲$30-$50 for two
Parking: 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗
Explore the menu: noodles, tofu soup

Hanwoori Korean Restaurant in Burnaby is popular for their Korean BBQ Set meals. We came here on Mother’s Day and they were all booked up with reservations, but they still told us to show up early at 5pm as there would be seats open. There is some ventilation in the restaurant, but it isn’t very powerful. If you are dining here, don’t wear your best clothes as they will smell. All the tables here are booth seating.

Grayson and I were feeling Korean again…there seems to be a trend of this lately but I don’t care because I love me some Korean food. Originally we were going to head downtown to go over to either Sura or Ma Dang Goul, but the weather didn’t look too optimistic so we decided to stay in Burnaby instead. That’s how we ended up at Hanwoori Korean Restaurant.

Good sized portion and prompt service. It is a bit hard to go to the less expensive cuts after feasting on the prime cuts ;) Not really an expert on ban chan but their potatoe pickle is amazing

The WORST MEAL I had in a very very long time (decades). The waitress informed us that by ordering just one serving of Galbisal Gui ($32.95) it would come to the table already cooked. The amount of beef was maybe 140/150 grams (I'm being generous), plus about 35/40 grams of sliced white onion, served on a hot cast iron tray. With it we were served about 6 or 7 little dishes with some accompaniments in quite small quantities, two individual serving bowls of steamed rice, and barely half little bowl of broth. We also ordered one bowl of Kimchee JeeGe ($10.95) - The beef thin slices were not just overcooked... they were horrendously overcooked, dry.
The food items on the bill were $43.90 - That meal shouldn't have cost more than 20/25 dollars... and it didn't deserve even that much. Who hasn't eaten beef slices on rice at any Chinese restaurant for no more than 15.00 bucks? And it would be properly cooked. How much was the food cost of what we had? maybe in the range of 12/15% (I'm still being generous) - This is the first time I write a review of a restaurant - I did own and operate three 1981/2000.
Go elsewhere...

Sept 23, 2016 -

Normally Korean food is expensive but this one is a little more pricey compared to the portion and quality. The three dishes came out to be $70 out the door. Overall I wasn't too impress with the lack of service or the food that was being served. The Japchae was super oily, the Dolsot Bibimbap was bland and the deep fried boneless chicken in special chili sauce was over cooked. I noticed this restaurant got voted best Korean in Burnaby for many years. If this is the best in Burnaby I sure don't want to try any other Korean restaurants in Burnaby.

Hanwoori is a Korean restaurant located in Burnaby just off the intersection of Kingsway and Imperial Street. The restaurant is known for their family style dishes and BBQ combos. Some of their tables have built in grills installed for patrons to cook their own meat! An experience no one should miss out on

Back during Winter Break, a few of us decided to go for Korean food and what we ended 2015 with. My friend had been here before and liked it, so we went ahead and made a reservation. Unfortunately, we didn’t leave that satisfied and were pretty disappointed with our meal.

Continuing on with the disappointment, my friend was shocked when her ‘seafood’ tofu soup arrived with barely any seafood! There were a few pieces of shriveled up seafood, all of which could fit on her small spoon. When she told the staff about this, they brought it back with a couple more pieces of seafood but it was still a very tiny portion. The seafood also did not look fresh at all, judging from how shrunken and shriveled they looked.

I've been to this place so many times over the years and I've finally come around to leaving a review. they are very good at so many different kinds of dishes.
This time around, we opted for the Budae JJigae soup for 2. It was $32 before tax and tip. It is cheaper to order two Budae soups for one, than it is to order the two person jeongol-but imo, worth the extra money in portion and ingredient difference. I did notice that they charge $1.50 for sidedish refills here-but there were 5 generous portions of them provided. The soup was delicious, flavourful and full of goodies. I would have rather had less rice cakes in it because rice is already served with it.
Service was fast and friendly. I would recommend making reservations. We were there on a Thursday evening, and we saw people that came in after us waiting for quite a long time.
You can smell the bbq meat flavour once you open the doors. Word of warning, if you don’t want your clothes to smell like the meal you just cooked on the bbq, then I would suggest not wearing your favourite clothes here! I learn that the hard way! Just the two of us, we decided to their Combination A which it says was meant for 2-3 persons.

With a bit of lineup and all the awards hung at the entrance, I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. The BBQ smell while we waited was mouth-watering. We stood there for a while, and we didn’t get any acknowledgement from any of the staff. I went to the bathroom during the wait, then we were seated shortly afterwards.

This family restaurant is very popular on the weekends so best to book in advance. The portions are large but not overly so. Flavours are ok but I've had better, in Toronto especially. Chap chae was good, perhaps a bit too sweet, but the noodles a good consistency. The meats were a bit overmarinated too, losing a bit of texture, and also quite sweet. The fatty brisket was outrageously priced for so little - and no taste to match. Service was prompt and courteous, so that's a bonus.

Tonight this was our destination for some cook-it-yourself Korean BBQ. The restaurant was pretty regular inside and out. Designed for function there was not much to describe in terms of aesthetics. Even the Christmas lights with its pine trim was kept up all year long for practicality. You turn it on to celebrate, otherwise it stays off the rest of the year.

Was my first time trying this place with the family. The food was ok. Good portion. They didn't give us much side dishes. Would probably go back to try other dishes if I'm in the area.

Nice Korean restaurant! I would come again! The sizes are good too. I think they don't put a lot for side dishes but its okay. I didn't really like the jiajangmyeon but I like their tofu soup

I always thought that restaurants with grills or hot pots in the centre of their tables are brilliant ideas on the business end. Firstly, as a business owner you don’t have to cook any meat, since you’re letting the customers do so. Secondly, as a customer, you get to cook your own food, and feel like you took part in your own meal. However there are at least a dozen more cooking surfaces for the staff to clean, so there’s at least one obvious drawback.

Reminded me of my second home. South Korea. This place is super authentic and freaking delicious. The kimchi chigae came out piping hot and the sides were plentiful, fresh and very delicious. Ecstatic to have am amazing Korean restaurant within a ten minute drive to my work. Very reasonable prices as well. Been here more than a dozen times. Kamja Tang is amazing too!

This is Korean food that's a step above. Although I was a bit dismayed that the prices had increased sharply, it is still very much worth the additional money. Special mention goes to the raw beef and the BBQ marinades are truly excellent. The true measure of a good korean restaurant though are the pickled side dishes. It's are to argue with Homemade goodness. This is one of the best Korean restaurants in Vancouver. Hands down.

I like this restaurant! Service is good, environment is nice, and food is yummy! The price is oaky. A good choice for Korean food! And generally you don't need to wait too long time! I recommend it!

Scam!. Well please visit that restaurant if you want to enjoy tofu soup with UNSEEN pork, TINY prawns and Invisible clams... seriously, apart from the overly salty side dishes, all the soups my family ordered were completely different from the menu description... Another example would be the kimchi soup with pork my dad ordered... it was beef broth with a tiny bit of minced pork O.O

Really enjoyed the bibimbap, the pork bone soup and side dishes. The restaurant is clean, has good service, but most importantly, we were very happy with the generous ingredients (cucumbers, zucchinis, carrots, mushroom, spinach, a fern-like-seaweed vegetable and egg) with the delicious bibimbap which came with a flavourful milky pork bone soup and 6 side dishes of sprouts, seaweed, marinated potatoes, veggie pickles, pickled daikon shreds, and mildly spicy kimchi. Pork and vegetables in spicy soup dish was not as enjoyable as the soup lacked in flavor but the Korean seafood pancake was quite tasty and very big, it would easily serve as a side dish to share among a group of 6 people. Overall, we had a lovely dinner.

I’m not entirely sure why we don’t visit Hanwoori Korean Restaurant… from what I remember of our last visit, we were very pleased by the food.

On this visit, we decided to try their Mul Mandu – Steamed Pork and Veggie Dumpling.

I can't believe that you guys are RACIST. Last week, I went there for kalbi with my friends. First of all, I understand a little bit of Korean. After long minutes of ordering, we still did not get complimentary hotpot and vegeis that usually come with kalbi, which other tables already had got. I asked the server why, using Korean, and her response was "Sorry, I though you guys were Chinese". She went to the kitchen and brought them right away. I am still speechless about her comment, we ended up leaving a little later, as it was very unpleasant to stay there for any longer. There should be appropriate training done, and there should be appropriate cultural mind, if they want to keep on their business in Canada, although myself will not go there for sure.

Come if you want to be accused of being a liar. Last night my girlfriend and I decided to eat Korean food for dinner and since this restaurant was nearby we decided to try it. We ended up ordering a noodle dish and since we wanted to eat beef, ordered their beef soup (#51). I should add that as I was saying the number, the server took a quick glance at the menu and walked away with the order. When the soup came, we noticed there was chicken in it, and we told the server that brought the soup we had ordered the beef. We told her we ordered #51, she looked at the menu and took the dish away to replace our order with the correct one. No big deal since mistakes happen and we proceeded to eat the side dishes and our noodle dish that had just arrived.

Then what happens next is the "service" we received. The original server who took our order comes up to us and confronts us with the order. We told her we had ordered #51 (beef soup), and she did not believe us. She insisted that we had ordered chicken instead and she did not make a mistake. She said she had pointed at #53 (chicken) and we had said yes to it. This was simply not true. She argued her point a few more times before walking away with no apologies whatsoever. I did not appreciate her accusing us of being a liar and I'm sure this is not the experience someone wants when paying $30-$40 for a meal. We left shortly afterwards and needless to say we won't be back.

Soup bland, chicken bland, seafood pancake good. The seafood pancake was good ~ thin crust and good amount of ingredients used. But me and a friend ordered a Chicken Soup Pot ( #22) and the chicken had no flavor and not only that it was kind of hard to bite. The soup supposedly spicy had no flavor. The side dishes were good. Overall the dinner came to 55.55 - with a bit of tips 60.

D: A bit on the pricey side, and service was just okay.

What's with the AC?. Went here with my boyfriend for dinner last Friday night. The food was pretty good.
I had the single portion Gamja Tang. SO GOOD! it was rich and full of flavour and the meat was fall off the bone tender! Boyfriend had the Jjajangmyun and it was pretty good too. The noodles were the right texture and the sauce wasn't too salty and perfectly balanced.
The seafood pancake was just meh . The it came out sizzling hot and was really crispy. The amount of seafood was decent, but we got a few mussel shells that we weren't too thrilled about.

The biggest problem was the AC. About half way through our meal, the AC was BLASTING! Like Arctic wind, cold and we were right under the vent so we were extra cold! This made all our food cold and we weren't too pleased by the end of dinner. Unless they fix this problem, I don't see myself coming back even if they make the best Gamja Tang I've had. Sad face.

Lunch. Cannot really comment on a favourite fish as we ordered the DIY lunch which meant grilling our own marinated meats over an oval grill. Set meal A was sufficient for four ladies but two men would be begging for more.

Service was abysmal, you practically had to beg for tea and after seemingly hours, the tea pot was refilled. By the time we left, we never did get another refill. Service wasn't with smiles either. Staff need some serious training. No service equates to no customers!!!

We always order the samsun jjampong and bulgalbi. The noodles are nice and chewy and the bulgalbi is very tender!

Terrible service. They gave a 6 person table to a party of 2. We were clearly waiting a long time. The servers are very slow as well, even when there is a very large lineup for the restaurants. The food is okay, but do not come here if you hate horrible service.

I went here about a week ago and this was a horrible experience. It was my first time to a Korean restaurant and I was expecting a lot more than what I received. I arrived with my group of friends (3 of us) and was immediately told that most of the things on the menu would not be available. We didn't question it because we just assumed that it was 10pm and they were closing in 1hr. Anyways, we were the only ones in the restaurant and our server was not attentive at all: drinks, refill, bill, etc... she repeatedly came up to us and told us that they are closing soon and that we would have to pay. Once we paid and were about to leave, she said that it was not enough tip. We left 10%. She looked pissed and wouldn't even look us in the eyes, just continued what she was doing. She then continued to mumble something in korean underneath her breath. First of all, people are not obligated to tip. Her service sucked and we still gave her 10% (which I feel she didn't deserve at all). I cannot believe she thought it wasn't enough and even mentioned it. I will never go there again... VERY bad customer service!!! The waitress needs to be retrained!!

Food was really good, service even better. We had 6 dishes, the potato noodle dish#35 was excellent!

Dripping duck fat with plastic wrap BLEH. I came here for dinner on a weeknight. My friend and I ordered the BBQ duck dish and a oxtail soup to share. The oxtail and small side dishes were ok, as what you'd expect. The duck dish however was a major disappointment. First of all, it was mostly fat, I could barely see the meat, plus it was served in a hot plate which was full of the fat drippings! Also, I found a plastic wrap inside of that plate. It was about 6 inches long. I told the waitress, she just looked very sorry and apologized.

If they were really sorry, couldn't they have offered a discount of some sort, or not charge for the dish? It I had eaten the plastic wrap I could have choked! Plus imagine what could have melted into the dish from the plastic, bleehhhh! Hazard to my health! Plus this place is quite pricey for what you get/don't get.

After reading all the good reviews, I had expected at least a decent meal. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Definitely the best korean restaurant in vancouver !!!

The food was ok. But not worth the 40 mins wait! Definitely make a reservation, if you want to come at regular dinner time. I think I would have enjoyed it more, if I went with a group of 6 or more. Then I'd be able to sample more varieties, instead of just two dishes. I would give it another try in a group setting, but would not recommend to a friend just yet.

Good food, warm restaurant.. Came here because I was curious about Vancouver Magazine saying this was the best Korean in the city. It was a hot day so I wasn't interested in getting too much food. Ended up with the pork steamed dumplings and the Mul NaengMyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). The noodles were nice and the broth was flavourful, but the dumplings didn't seem very special. We did come in the middle of the afternoon, so the place was completely empty the entire time. It was a bit hard to flag someone down at the start, which was a bit annoying, though what was worse was that the AC wasn't on, so it just got progressively hotter. But the food was good enough that I think I'll try it again.

Mmmmm BBQ!. I had been to Hanwoori once in the past a few years ago with one of my colleagues who is Korean, and have been wanting to go back ever since. Trouble is I was always afraid to go without him becuase I wasn't sure what to order. I decided to go with another friend of mine (not Korean), and see if we could still have an enjoyable experience.

For starters, we went on a Monday at 6:00 and it wasn't too busy, only a few tables occupied. The staff was very helpful in explaining some of the questions we had regarding the menu and we settled on Korean BBQ for two, which had the beef ribs, spicy pork, chicken, and sliced beef meats. To that we added an order of the deep fried chicken in chilli garlic sauce (Item # 36). And for drinks we had Soju with Kirin beer (Try Soju Bombs - take a half glass of the kirin beer, pour a shot of soju in to a shot glass, drop the shot glass in to the beer and GUN BAE!!!).

The food was EPIC, the service was great, and by the time we left the place was packed! I'm writing this the day after, and I'm already wanting to go back tonight.

Definately a keeper in my books.

Shabu shabby is a must In Hanwoori you can trust. Had the shabu shabby for two. It was so good. Tons of veggies, two plates of beef and when you are all done that, they bring out fresh hand-made noodles that are cooked in the beef broth you have been cooking with with some added garlic chili powder. Great comfortable place to enjoy some Korean food

Good Korean experience. Overall, my favorite korean restaurant in the lower mainland. Go with an expectation of mediocre service, very good food and a large variety of korean dishes.

Good home made style Korean food. Well priced and lots of complimentary side dishes.

I always look forward to visiting my grandma on sundays after church, because we go FEASTING! LOL!! She's my partner in crime when it comes to trying out new restaurants! For an old asian lady (no offense to you if you're old LOL) she's a pretty adventurous eater! Most (if not all) of the retired asian folks that I know always go to the same restaurants, week after week haha. According to my grandma this is partly due to the fact that they can't really read English so they don't know what to order and because they were never exposed to food from other cultures growing up, so they're only use to eating chinese food. When I go out with my grandma we rarely eat chinese food, because I'm the only person she knows that can introduce her to new, exotic, *sparkly* foods LOL! I've been wanting to try this place out ever since I read on Urbanspoon and Yelp that Hanwoori is supposedly the BEST Korean restaurant in Burnaby! SIGNATURE DISHES Hanwoori Korean is one of three Korean restaurants in Burnaby that specializes in Korean tabletop BBQ! The other two are Potter's Garden (which is across the street from them) and Cho Sun! They also have a ton of other staple Korean dishes like bulgogi, bibimpap, naengmyeon, even fried rice! SERVICE 3 /5 stars Service was really quick, but not particularly friendly by any means. They did their job, they fetched us extra plates at our request and were quick to fill our orders. Our food came fairly quickly and all at once, about 10 mins after we had placed our order! What's neat about Hanwoori is that they have a service call button on each table so you can press it if you want to get their attention! AMBIANCE - Casual The restaurant itself is modestly decorated with wooden panelling throughout. They have large booths along each side of the restaurant, and tatami rooms in the back for larger parties! The place is heavily ventilated with ventilation above each table for BBQueing! It's also really bright in there because they

... beef bland; yes, it indicates that it's non-marinated, but to not even taste 'beefy'?! Also, you have to order at least two BBQ items to get the DIY grill yourself so as we only ordered one BBQ item, this arrived on the sizzling plate...

When the table top barbecue arrived, the pan looked somewhat similar to a few I saw in Seoul, but not quite. The pan appears to be filled with some sort of broth and in Seoul, a similar pan was filled with

The flavours of the batter/pancake mix combined with the veggies and sporadic bits of seafood were so flavourful that I really didn’t mind it’s relative lack of seafood. And the stone plate it came on kept the pancake warm from the beginning of our meal to the very end. The last piece of it that I ate was still warm around 40 minutes after it arrived at our table.

We were planning on going to Cho Sun once again for some korean but I opted to try someplace different instead. So I took a sharp u-turn and hooked a right turn on kingsway. I've seen this establishment for many years now but never visited since it was so tucked away located next to a car repair garage and across from Visions. Hanwoori Korean Restaurant 5740 Imperial St, Burnaby BC Tel#: (604) 439-0815 Inside was super hot and dated. I wish they turned up the AC for the simple reason that it is summer. We got seated on a big long table and given some heavy menus. This place seems stingy because they don't give you all side dishes when you order any item, you'll have to read carefully as some items only give u 2 side dishes or even none! You'd have to pay for extras if you wanted other kinds, even for refills. SO we ordered and after some confusion as to per person for 2 or order 2 of this??? we got that settled. The bowls are kinda nice. But th

It’s been a while since I’ve had Korean food, so this weekend, I called up a couple friends to have lunch at Hanwoori Korean Restaurant with me. Upon arriving the restaurant, I realized I have been here once before when I was a kid. We had Korean BBQ here, and it was quite good for my first Korean BBQ experience. At lunch this time, we decided not to go for the BBQ, and order a few individual dishes instead. We started with the usual, seafood pancake. It had a really strong oyster taste, and honestly, other than oyster, I wasn’t sure what other seafood items were in it. Then we had the Kimchi fried noodles, which was pretty good. It had lots of kimchi, lots of noodles, some rice cakes, and little bit of beef. I would have liked it to have a bit more meat though. Next came the Seafood & Pork tofu hotpot. This was the best dish we had here. The soup creamy, tofus were so silky. Last but not least, Bi Bim Bap, which we were all quite disappointed with. It was pretty bland e

Hanwoori is a popular Korean restaurant located east of Metrotropolis. It is unusually next to a couple of car repair shops. We’ve been here a couple of times before so we are aware they have relatively large portions. Although this time there were 3 of us, we were still conservative with our order since didn’t want to take any food back to our car as we had planned to see the movie Interstellar afterwards. Surely the car would stink up with food after sitting for 3 to 4 hours. It seems very common that Korean restaurants will have a little button on the table that works like a doorbell for you to push when you need to call the server to your table. The appetizer sides were small compared to Potter’s Garden ; however they allow one refill. What we noticed is that the amount and type of appetizers served is quite inconsistent from our previous visits. I’m pretty sure we got seaweed, bean sprouts and broccoli too. Why only 3 dishes this time? This is the seafood pancake that comes on a hot stone plate. It is quite large even for 3 people. It came sizzling and is about the size of a medium pizza. It has oysters, shrimp, various veggies and green onion cooked in an egg type batter. The pancake had a light crisp to it on the outside. The main ingredients are well balanced in terms of quantity and flavour. The only main dish we got was the JapChea. JapChea are potato noodles which are very chewy. IT comes with ground meat and veggies. This JapChea was a bit on the salty side but overall was OK. The noodles were very chewy which we like. We went for lunch this time and it was not too busy. The service was efficient and friendly. Portions are large but rather pricey. The inconsistency of the appetizer plates was a bit annoying seeing that other tables got additional dishes too. We prefer Potter’s Garden because they have options for smaller portions available. Hanwoori will better fit larger parties as you can order more to share. But with 2 or 3 people,

Korean food is one cuisine I'm not all that familiar with. I can count my visits to Korean restaurants on one hand…one trip to Jang Mo Jib and three to Hanwoori . It's an odd thing considering all the grilled meat and chili involved…two items at the to
My Secret Eden
I heard about Hanwoori a long time ago, mostly for their delicious BBQ. So I really wanted to try it out. However we weren't really hungry, and didn't want our cloth to smell like BBQ for the rest of the day, so instead we decide to try their regular menu

Ah, gathering with former colleagues… That is always an interesting process. Everybody working in different places, different schedules, different likes/dislikes, etc. And, in a process similar to that of how we ended up in Posh a couple of months ago, I

Aside from Insadong out in Coquitlam, when it comes to the top of mind ranking for Korean restaurants in the greater Vancouver area, Hanwoori generally gets strong billing in local magazines, online boards and word of mouth. So it is somewhat surprising t
