Review Sushi U - Burnaby

One of the top sushi places I have tried in Vancouver ! Their service is super friendly and they make you feel like home. Recommend their crazy girl roll and ice-cream tempura. Yum ! I have heard from a lot of people I know that their taste is very authentic. Highly recommend this small joint for a sushi evening.

ありがとう !! Dopest sushi joint in Vancouver! Don't let the outside change your judgement, inside is a beautiful little nestled sushi parlor with an awesome menu of hot and cold options. I hauled a Sushi and Sashimi Bento and replaced for a Dynamite Roll all with brown rice, super yummy!! This was truly delicious and at a good value for money. The Miso Soup 味噌汁 was also one of the freshest and least saltiest I have tasted in a while. A great plentiful stuffed portion of sushi rolls and some big fat yummy Sashimi! The service is a little slow and disorganized, but worth the eventual wait. The staff are super friendly, approachable and awesome at making super tasty grub! They are also so accommodating that you can edit the fantastic lunch bento's with another standard roll if you wish as well as subbing brown rice. アダム Support local businesses!

I love this little gem in Burnaby! The staff are kind and know the locals which is always a good indication for repeat customers! We really enjoy their sashimi and salmon dishes. Enclosed picture is just some of the take out feast my sister requested for her birthday. It is good comfort food and their sushi platters are always a hit at events or pot luck gatherings (or personal couch potato-ing 😎). Please give them a try and I hope you enjoy their food and service!

Quiet, small sushi place that deserves far more attention. Went there and the staff were courteous and friendly, and the service was crazy fast. The food was just as good.

Update: ordered from here again July 31st - the rice was perfect not mushy or undercooked and definitely better than the first time we ordered. Pretty good sushi around my sisters place. The rice is a tad hard but i would rather have it that way than mushy rice.

Always great Sushi when I dine in, very friendly staff and the atmosphere is one of the most relaxing I've experienced. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Worth it every time!

Ordered here several times and the food is always delicious, and service is friendly. Plenty of parking in the plaza parking lot too. The amount of sauce (spicy sauce, teriyaki sauce) they put on can be inconsistent. Sometimes it’s a good amount, and other times it’s not enough. The food quality is still really good though! Would recommend.

Another great place for your Japanese palate. My favourite is their Yaki Udon👍👍👍. Found this place about two months ago since we moved along Canada Way and every time I am craving, Sushi U is just a few minutes away!

Atmosphere: For a first timer, it may seem like a hole in the wall but you get used to it quickly. Everything is clean though including the washroom.

Sushi U was chosen as our go to place for lunch recently.  We arrived at the destination and found a parking spot near the restaurant a few minutes before its opening time of 11 am, and when seen near the entrance, staff welcomed us to come inside.  We (threesome) were shown to a larger, corner table, provided menus, place settings, and then brought some large mugs of hot tea to enjoy while we pondered what to order.<br/><br/>It’s a small place, clean, neat, and tidy in appearance.  If I remember correctly, there was some music playing, but definitely at a rather low volume.  The tables are arranged around the perimeter, and most can be moved and <br/>re-arranged to accommodate from one and two diners, to small-sized groups.    <br/><br/>Our server (Jane) was a delight during our visit, and took such good care of us.            <br/><br/>The food:  note:  I thought my ordering was likely a little heavy for the three of us, but it was a first time visit and I wanted to try a number of dishes - it seemed to work well - a few leftovers to bring home, but most dishes cleared.  Hot tea - a light and flavourful blend, was supplied at no extra charge.<br/><br/>— Appetizers:  geso karage (breaded squid tentacles), coroke (breaded potato croquette), ebi (prawn) gyoza — Noodle:  veggie yaki soba (soba noodles, w/mostly bean sprouts and small pieces of cabbage, a few green beans and carrot pieces) — Teriyaki:  tofu teriyaki (deep fried tofu, w/teriyaki sauce, on a bed of bean sprouts and a little rice) — Donburi:  chirashi don (assorted sashimi, on mostly shredded daikon and a green salad, w/ side bowl of steamed rice) — Sashimi:  tako (octopus) sashimi (slices of octopus tentacle, on shredded daikon) — Nigiri Sushi:  aburi sampler (‘flamed’ nigiri sushi - salmon, tuna, ebi, tai, saba, and hotate, w/special sauces, and spices) — Roll:  California roll — and two “extras” that our hosts provided without charge:  samples of chicken karage (breaded chicken pieces, w/a sweet & sour-like sauce), and ice cream tempura for dessert (a nice touch, much-appreciated). <br/><br/>The dishes came from kitchen to our table rather promptly, in good sequence and portion size, and all looking quite colourful and appealing.  Food preparations were very good — warm dishes, were warm, cold dishes, were cool — breaded coverings were thin, crispy, and flavourful, sauces tasty, stocks not greasy or salty, quite ‘light’ and flavourful — tofu and noodles were well-prepared - the large tofu pieces so creamy, and the noodles not overcooked — chirashi don was very good, the ingredients so colourful, cool, fresh, and tasty - and the California rolls as well — sashimi in the don, and the octopus sashimi, were perfect, so fresh and flavourful, and the aburi nigiri sushi was such a taste treat, melt-in-your-mouth goodness — and the ‘extras’, well-prepared, and yummy, the ice cream tempura such a nice, and ‘cool’ way to end the meal.<br/><br/>Our lunch at Sushi U was a fun, and a much-enjoyed dining experience — nice, friendly, personable hosts and service, with well-presented and prepared food.  And all served up in a small restaurant, located in a rather cool and neat, local neighbourhood setting — definitely our kind of place!

Good sushi and friendly staff. They work hard to take care of you. Value is average like other restaurants around here.

Decent sushi overall but the flavors could be a hit or miss sometimes. The special Victoria roll is pricey but good. New lunch boxes added recently. Will visit again.

Always Great food you can trust!. I've been eating here since 2010. Food is always great, fresh sushi and sashimi. Very service oriented owner with clean, authentic food experience! Highly recommended!

What a fantastic place. I have been eating here for over altho years and, as a regular, have been treated very well, and welcomed. The owners and staff are very kind and generous, as well as helpful. I have never had an order confused, nor been disappointed in the food. The people are great, the food is awesome, and the price matches that.<br/><br/>Check it out! I reccomend the avocado fries, the bc cone, the Hawaiian roll and anything chickinen/beef teryaki :)

Very tasty Sushi takeout. I often get takeout from Bentei sushi. Discovered it on my way home from work one day when I had stopped at Buy Low foods. Very nice people and the food is quite good. My favourite is the vegetable roll, which for a change has fresh crunchy and colourful veggies - carrots, cucumber, lettuce, avocado - better than the fried tempura veggie rolls most other places seem to have. They do have tempura rolls as well. The dynamite rolls are quite tasty too. My husband is vegetarian and enjoys the gomai, avocado, and cucumber rolls.

Best Sushi Place Ever !!. I have been eating at this place for quite some time. The quality has always been good. The best part of this place is the bento boxes. No matter what time, every bento boxes are the same price. I don't like sunomono but my friend forced me to try and since then sunomono is my must eat dish. Bentei makes the best sunomono sauce. Always consistently good and has fresh quality sushi. Also has fast efficient service at the counter or the tables. The owner is very funny and friendly. I totally reccommend this place !!!

Worst restaurant ever!. Korean male owner said friday is busy without reservations but the restaurant was 1/2 empty at 12:30pm!!<br/>chicken teriyaki bento had yakisoba which really is tasteless chow mein, and the chicken teriyaki was soaked in brown sauce with absolutely no flavor! ebi sunomono has a brown color liquid instead of colorless and vermicelli was not cooked well. they seem very cheap with sauces and didn't want to give us tempura sauce unless we asked for it. This is worst restaurant I have eaten this year, will never go again nor tell anyone to eat there.

Not great. First time there, super hungry, but atmosphere so off-putting I ordered to go. Smelled of unclean bathrooms. Gomae meager and sesame sauce/dressing non-existent. Salmon in BC roll seemed like scrapings from the bottom of the bucket. Sushi rice heavy and thick. Miso soup was good, but I think I'll try somewhere else next time.

This place is super nice and the food is so good and fresh! The service is very friendly and polite too. I love their california and dynamite rolls. So yummy! Other food such as bentos and udons are really tasty. I couldnt taste any MSG like other restaurants do lol. The food was like from my mom and the service was so friedly like from my dad. Good food. I live close by and really enjoy the food. They also remember my name, which is a nice touch. Yes, I am a regular customer. There are options around but I come back again and again because I am very sastified. Otherwise I would go somewhere else. Highly recommend!

EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK. What happened to this restaurant? After the new owner set in, everything has been a disaster. The food is not fresh ( my tuna cone last time was half frozen) and my use to be favorite, Chicken Bento is now dry and tasteless. The other food overall are just okay, nothing special or great. I suggest everyone save there pockets (since prices have increased by A LOT) and save your stomach for "SUSHI TOWN" which is right up the hill. Amazing food, good prices. It really is sad to see a good Japanese restaurant go down hill like this.

Good food. Great Service. I went to Bentei once and now I love it. The food is good, the menu offers many things, the place is cute and the service is very pleasant. I love the chicken teriyaki and the dynamite roll! <br/><br/><br/>TRY IT!!!

First time and very impressed!. Yesterday was my first time trying Bentei sushi at the north burnaby location and believe me, it is way better then the renfrew location. Staff were friendly, service was good, food was great! Definitely coming back again.

The place is a bit run down, but it's neat and homey. The owner gentleman is very friendly and welcoming. Price is quite reasonable, especially with their bento specials.
