Review Lost In The 50's Drive-in - Burnaby

This place is amazing! So fun and nostalgic, the food is amazing too! Everything is so fresh, burgers are delivered, buns baked in house and the fries are hand cut every day! The staff were super friendly and chatted with us while we ordered. The milkshakes are so good too! We ordered the Texas one and the LA one...1000000% going again!

Wow, what an amazing burger! Absolutely tasty and delicious. For sure, one of the best qualities I've had in Vancouver and for the price it is way too good. You can actually taste the meat, all the extras in the burger, the fresh home made bun, and plus all of that, the fries are great too. I can't believe how good and cool this drive through burger shop is! It looks great and has an awesome atmosphere! Definitely coming back!

Delicious when hot. I liked all the fillings (meat, lettuce, mushroom, bacon, red onion, grilled onion, cheese, tomato), but didn't care for the "baked in house" bun. The burger tasted what a burger should taste like. Decent fries. We waited for 40 min, so call ahead or expect to wait during peak times. Got our burgers at 8pm! Most diners left already!

It was such a wonderful experience knowing that your burger is freshly made on the spot. Their fries were awesome too and can’t forget their milkshakes, though I wish it was larger in size. Overall, if you are not looking for anything that’s fancy but authentic food, highly recommend 50’s Burger.

Great experience here, food is good. They stress no preserve food. The waiting time is longer as but is freshly made after order so it is fair. We had fish and chips, chicken burger and a kids meal. Onion fries are good and chocolate milkshake ;)

I ordered a Bull dog, it was juicy & yummy. The bun was made in the shop and it had some herbs… it smelled pretty amazing! The fries tasted like home made fries! What I like the most was how they provide me with a napkin, a wet towel & a catch-up without putting my order in a plastic bag! Bryan who is the owner & took my order, is funny and very friendly! I will definitely go back!

Absolutely phenomenal service and all around experience from the moment we arrived: - Placing our order with the owner himself (who asked us to read his mission statement while grabbing us fresh fries to sample), - The genuine passion, love and enthusiasm exuding from the owner, - Checking out all the wicked memorabilia and signage around the shoppe while waiting for our food, - waiting less than 15 mins on a beautiful day (family day holiday Monday), - Enjoying every single bite of our HANDMADE COOKED TO ORDER FRESH NOT PROCESSED food. - You also had the option to Walk in, Drive through, park and order, or call your order in ahead. 50's Burgers is a total retro experience, that is pretty much guaranteed to leave a smile on your face and make your tummy happy! My only criticism: - I ordered the retro soda shake (Americana orange cream soda with vanilla icecream) and for some reason it had strawberry syrup in it 🤔 which was unexpected and not to my liking. I would've returned it and am positive the owner would've given me a new one but we were in a hurry to get to the ferry.

Unique in that they use fresh baked buns and hand cut fries. Pretty good diner style burger but the sirloin patty could have been juicer. They also have minute maid tasting lemonade. Overall, a tasty burger with real ingredients with homemade vibes.

• easy to find as its retro, small restaurant with lots of parking space
• drive thru available, just ring their bell for service
• the owner was very friendly & accommodating, he explained the menu thoroughly, gave us free samples of their yummy milkshakes, showed their freshly baked breads too
• if you are not a big eater, just order the 4 oz as its huge!
• the Alberta burger is the simplest one and the list goes on if you want mushrooms, bacon, etc.
• I loved the mushrooms in their burger, so flavourful
• "the works" comprises of lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, mayo, mustard
• the burger itself, I find it hard than the usual ones at other restaurants, its just ok
• Expresso milkshake was good, a bit sweet for me despite no added sugar, bonus choco bits at the bottom
• overall: it was an experience, nice staff, set up: mainly sit on bar stools at the counter, pick up your order as they call your number
• Fish & chips: good flavour on the cod but the batter was soaked, didn't turn out to be crispy. The tartar sauce with saffron infused, good!!!
• their Fries: one of the best fries, one of my top 3 in Vancouver lower mainland

Not your burger and fries for $5.00 chain burger quality or price. But if you lived in the 50s drive in days this is your destination. The L.A. Burger is a six oz. burger properly prepared with loads of toppings. Both the quantity and quality of the fries were disappointing. Worth a visit just for the memories.

One of the BEST BURGERS in town!
The buns, patties and fries are all homemade, which is very impressive.

The one I got is the Texas burger and it's a bit spicy 🌶 the strawberry milkshake is also very rich and creamy with fresh fruits in it.
Darren
easily the best bacon cheese burger in town. hand made patties. great bun. fried onions.
tried the fish n chips once. the batter got soggy so it kinda sucked but the fish was still kinda saffrony tasting and flavorful.
Marie
Big disappointment ! Way too much bread for the amount of meat you get. Ordered Fanta in glass bottle, not even cold. Owner thought that was funny. Ordered a Coke instead and had to pay another $3.00 for a drink. Definitely not the best burger in B.C.
As for service, I would say it also rates a 2
Driving by thinking of eating at this place for a long time. Over the years hands have changed. I finally got to give this place a try. For $8.50 I feel I could of spent my money elsewere. The bun is way too big for the burger. I don't recommend this place for the quality and price. Way too much sauce as well. The burger tasted like a normal burger. That's a good sign.

The workers and manager were kind of butt heads. I was really expecting more since a lot of my buds were talking about it so much. Not too impressed...
Kathryn
Overpriced and disappointing!! Milkshakes tasted freezer burnt, burger buns were dry and too large. Spend over $40 for family of four and no one finished their meal. Kids hot dog was a smokie style on a flavored bun, not great for picky eaters

Lost. I have tried this place several times through the years after it was a well loved hot spot for car culture outcasts and thier machines. Sadly it never has been any good since its heyday and heck back then the food was after all always better at Wally's . My wife and I ventured in a month or so ago. The place has had a lot of paint put on it theres new signage and Wierd photos of things that look kind of like burgers. The thing is these photos don't really look appetizing and well I put that aside ordered a king burger the wife decided to order the fish and chips. The owner seemed very confident about his product being a premium offering . I became somewhat suspicious once he explained he used homemade buns he picked up from a local bakery each day. I'm not really sure but,I think home made kind is supposed to mean its in house made so I was a bit confused, the wife also ordered a lemonade that was pretty expensive . This was a tip off of what was yet to come. The lemonade was odd too start it wasn't cold and it was extremely sour . Yeah so.... I have pretty high expectations when I spend this much for a burger and fries. Let's say the fries with the burger weren't bad. They were a slight on the soggy side but they were fresh. The burger on the other hand well the homemade picked up at the bakery every morning bun was kind of stale. I'm not sure what kind of bun it was exactly but it wasn't really akin to any hamburger bun I've ever had it was chibattaish . Not that it's a bad thing but not sure what cues the owner took coming up with this burger. It was just flat out odd. The beef was ok. It seemed lean enough but it didn't have much taste. I like a burger where there is definition between it's components but comes across as it's own unique self. This missed the mark entirely. I mean I'd expect for this money it'd be better than big six or the now defunct burger burger. It was not even on the same block as either of them. I was put off.

But wait..... There's more. The wife's fish and chips was absolutely positively shockingly appallingly horrid. 1 the portion size was ludicrously small for the price. Secondly if you are going to offer something on your menu putting your own spin on its fine but this is called lost in the fifties right. So you kind of lead the customer to believe its going to be a homage to classic diner food. This fish was not cooked properly for one thing. The batter seems more like pakora batter unlike any thing I've ever had before. Secondly I'm unsure why but the fries with this dish were so so soggy almost like the fryer had been turned on and the food tossed in to cook as it warmed up. I'm unsure if you noticed we left pretty put off. The fish and chips left pretty much untouched . When asked how it was and I said the fries were ok it should have taken as a cue to ask or look what was left behind. So despite the spiel given us I was extremely unimpressed. For the price this perhaps ranks in the top ten worst dinning experiences I've had in the lower mainland. I mean everyone can have a bad day everyone can make a mistake . I won't make this one again.

Went there today and the staff are very friendly and the owner gave me the run down on all their products as it was my first time visiting. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries and it was very good. I would definitely recommend this place.

Ok... We finally tried this place, it is so close to where we live. First thing first, the man who runs it was so friendly and funny and very helpful. He is just beaming with pride with what he serves. Because it was our first time, he gave me the whole run down. Home made buns, fresh made beef burgers with the good ground beef.
The menu was a bit confusing with bad photos, so I asked for some help.
I can not remember what we got, but basically a bacon cheese burger and fries. We took it to go. I was not a fan of the burger. Mostly what we did not like was the bun. It was dry and too large. it was homemade, so an awesome thing to do,, but the ones we go were not good. I loved the fries, I am willing to try it again, if only to chat with the guy again.

I work right by here and one day, we decided to order it as a treat. As bonus, they even delivered! Burgers were good, a little messy but huge and loaded with toppings. Not bad. 3 out of 5 stars

Drive on By. Disappointing. While it has a 50's feel, the food was not very good. Soggy fries. Lukewarm burger - doubt it was fresh. Bun was toasted --but mainly dried out. The fried onions on the burger was the only thing they got right.

SAD!!! Waste of Money. When this restaurant reopened under new management I tried it out. They had great burgers -- and had bison. But, their fries were limp and soggy, although freshly fried. I didn't go back for nearly a year. Today I went -- a busy day --- beautiful weather and with tables outside couldn't be better EXCEPT THE FOOD. It was PATHETIC. They declare they make their own buns daily and my bun was toasted (dry) and certainly NOT fresh. The burger had been cooked ahead of time and they attempted to reheat it but it was barely hot on the outside and in the center was lukewarm. The shake wasn't bad. BUT for $12.95 I would expect EXCEPTIONAL not a dry bun with a rewarmed burger. SAD!!!!!

Definitely will go back again. Stumbled across this place, how wonderful! Fresh made buns and cut fries from scratch everyday, they grind their meat daily! The burger was so huge the next time I go back I'll definitely split it with a friend so we'll have room for onion rings or fries. They accept debit or cash, and there is a wonderful shady/sunny yard in the back with well spaced picnic tables so kids can run around but it was quite when we went.

Better then the last owners!. This place is not too bad. Had a burger and milkshake and was surprisingly pleased. At least they have not attempted to serve Korean street meat as the last owners, so sad they were. I am glad to see someone giving respect to this place and not feeding people mystery meat. At least they had the dignity to close their door. I hope the new place lasts as it does have potential.

This place is nasty! They rarely change the deep fryer oil. The "sauteed" onions and mushrooms are actually deep fried.. i will never eat at this place again the owner is cheap and it shows.

Stopped in on a whim the other day. WOW What a difference from the previous owners.
I had the Alberta with fries. And it was one of the best burgers I have had in quite a long time. Everything was as advertised. Fresh and home made.
Kudos to Bryan and his great staff.
I will be back.
Lorenzo
The best ever. I stopped in to see if the burgers were as good as the ones in the fifties (I was there) and I was not disappointed.
The burger and onion rings were probably the best I've ever had.
The owner is a very enthusiastic and friendly guy, and loves what he's doing.
I will definitely be back, again and again....awesome!

Amazing food and great friendly service. Best burger in town hands down!!!

Has Potential But Failed Today. I hadn't been to this drive in for years as my last experience was disastrous. I was feeling for a burger today so decided to stop in and give them another try as it looked like it had new owners.

My order was taken by the owner who was very enthusiastic about the freshness of their menu items (fresh patties, lots of fresh veggie toppings, buns baked daily on the premises, hand cut fries etc). One of the problems as I see it is that the posted menu items are all over the place instead of a simple menu board. It was very confusing so I decided to just order a regular cheeseburger and fries (came with a can of coke) and the total was just under $10. That seemed a little pricey but I was willing to reserve judgement. I'm happy to pay extra for what was promised to be a superior product.

It took a few minutes to prepare so chatted the owner up about upcoming changes and additions to the menu. They are planning a drive up window and will be offering breakfast items in addition to their current menu.

When the product arrived the burger looked enormous and was stuffed with all manner of veggies/condiments. So big in fact that the take-out tray wouldn't close over it. I eyed the fries suspiciously as they looked dark and greasy and in fact turned out to be. It's a shame because they are obviously fresh cut but weren't cooked or seasoned correctly. The burger itself was tasty, albeit a bit much for me. I, too, agree with a previous poster that I wasn't offered a choice of toppings/condiments. Everything that was on there was fresh and tasty on their own but far more than I would have ordered had I realized that there was a choice. The server/owner should individually ask each patron what they would like on their burger.

Also, there was no cheese on my cheeseburger;-) I don't know if he just misheard my order or if it was forgotten.

All in all a little disappointing but not terrible. I'm quite willing to give it another try to see if the fries get fixed and knowing that I can customize my toppings. They seem to have a good selection of ice cream too so I'll bet their milkshakes are great!

.

Great Food, friendly service. Giant home-made burger patties, big fresh buns and lots of fillings. Fries are really potatoes - soo good, onion rings tasty and chocolate shake perfect mixture of icecream, milk and chocolate.

Amazing burgers! They're huge but so good! Everything is home made and the owner is super friendly and there's great customer service!

Good Burger. I ordered a veggie burger to take out. The service was quick and friendly. I was surprised the see the burger it looked soooo good and it was quite big. Really good taste. I didn't order any fries but the burger was quite good and big in size so didn't miss them. I would go here again. Yummmmmy veggie burger!!!1

Good burgers. fish and chips were rubbery and soggy. Wish they had better fries too.

BEST BURGER IN TOWN. I have no words to describe how amazing and satisfying these burgers are, they are so big and delicious that you will not be able to finish. Fries are not even needed, that is how good they are.
Even though I was not able to finish my burger, I still HAD to try the fries, which was awesome, home made fries!! there's nothing better,

At the first I went, I tried their milkshake and I was blown away, even better.

Can't wait to go back, now they have a little section that is covered, so it is good for those rainy days. It was definitely a good idea.

I Had the Alberta classic burger with the works.
Upon first glance the burger seems enormous, but this was largely due to the size of the kaiser bun, which unfortunately was on the verge of stale.
There was plenty of vegi and meat but the bun......
I should think that if you are going to own a burger joint, then the next thing of importance right after the quality of the beef would be the quality of the bread upon which it is served.

They're Back and They're Good :). I remember coming to this plays years ago and having the worst burger EVER. I swore I would never go back, until I walked past there today and saw that the restaurant had new owners. They've done a really nice job renovating the place, and they even have added and addition to the front of the building so that you can eat and order inside.

The burger I ordered tasted wonderfully fresh. The onion rings were delicious (and either they didn't give me enough of them or I was extremely hungry...I honestly couldn't tell you which). But I left there very satisfied. There is no doubt that I will be a returning customer. Its a whole other world from what was there before.

The best value and tastest burgers around. Brian the new owner is really putting in a lot of effort into bringing back this old east Burnaby landmark. Some reviews state the place is over priced but I don't think it is at all. For an extra $3-$4 you get a burger combo that other fast food joints can't even come close to in quality. MONSTER SIZE burgers that full you up with fresh meet and veggies. Everybody should try this place at least once for yourselves then make a decision about the restaurant. 10/10 for me.

THIS PLACE ROCKS!. Tried this place for the 1st time yesterday, and WOW WOW WOW, best burger me and my kid have had in years, don't let the rundown appearance of this place keep you away, their food and service are amazing! The food is fresh, hot and delicious, we will not get burgers and fries anywhere else from now on.

Stopped here today for lunch, we had the LA King and the London burger and we thought they were the best burgers we have had in a long time. Service was great and friendly! To the reviewer complaining about onions and mustard on their burger the menu states that they come with the works, and what the works includes so it shouldn't have been a surprise.... I will definitely stop by again!

Vancouver girl reply. I appreciate you offer to refund my money. I am not interested in stopping by to get a refund though as it is not my intent to argue over my opinion. If you "pleasurably" (not proper english btw) offer customers additions or subtractions then you failed to do this with me.

Funny how the only good review you have on here is 3 days after I posted my review. All I received was a bland burger with a non-fresh bun and several things I never asked for with poor customer service.

I dont think there is a one fits all approach for restaurants you should cater to each one of your customers as an individual then the "service" part of your business is taken care of then you focus on the food and your customers will flourish.

I have been in the business for 20 years with several award winning restaurants under my belt so I think I know a thing or 2. How many restaurants have you owned and succeeded at? I see your signs all over Burnaby for a realtor. As I said just some advice for customers looking to eat somewhere and for a business owner that might be interested in some professional insight.

-----20 Nov, 2012-----

Lost is right!. Not lost in the 50's though, LOST in the year 2012. This place is horrible. I think the name LOST is right, not just the food though the decor too.

LOST is the skills to execute a simple good burger and fries. The food is way over priced and my bun was not fresh. As a foodie with foodie friends I had 3-4 people that tried this place and we all agree it was horrible we will never return.Any Fatburger have 2x better product for 1/2 the price.

The fries recipe was LOST as mine were soggy not crunchy and hard and under cooked in the middle.

The customer service was LOST as they don't even ask what you want they just put a bunch of toppings on your burger without asking you. ( Thanks guys but I don't like big chunks of onions or mustard you might know that if you ever asked)

Trust me save your money there are 10 places in the area that have way better food at a price that doesn't leave you broke.

LOST is any design sense. Not only did the new owners ruin the original look of the diner that had the original 50's pastel colors they painted it some crazy ugly color scheme with purple, yellow, red, black, wood fence

After eating here it is clear they know as much about decor as they do about food service and pricing.

LOST is another customer!

Now Open. Nice to see the Lost In the 50's open again....food??? Nice to see though.

Has been closed since March 2011, think it's gone for good.

What happened???. We drove by the diner, but it is not even open? I guess it was only a matter of time it closed. Use to be great way back when, fun to take the kids. But the last few years has gone down hill. So sad.
Hammer
Way Better Now!. I also went back after the spruce up. It is a family run business, and the parents retired, so one of the sons took over and made some major changes. The burgers are organic, the fries are hand cut, they have a great selection of pop that I have never seen before: handcrafted root beer, Coke in the old school bottles, and even some "throwback" Pepsi products that are made with real sugar. They also added Korean street food to the menu; pork/beef tacos and burritos which were truly amazing!

Lost in the 50's drive in. I was driving around with my family in the Burnaby Area and we saw this little diner on Edmonds. We decided to stop there and take a look. It's is a 50's style diner that serve all organic and hormone free meats as well as home aide fries. My husband had the Big Bopper with a Chocolate Cappucino Milkshake, I had the Bacon Cheese with Onion Rings topped with a Cream Soda Float and my little brother had the Grilled Special with the coolest retro coke bottle then I got my son the kids hormone free turkey dog, only 1.50. I wasn't a big fan of the Chocolate Cappucino, but my husband thought it was fairly good. But it was pretty cool and the prices were fairly decent for organic meats. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a good burger!

If you’ve driven along Edmonds, you’ll probably recall seeing the iconic neon sign that currently points to the Lost in the 50’s Drive-in.

Unforunately, the days of the good old-fashioned drive-ins & diners are long gone in these parts. Well, maybe they're not all gone, but they are definitely few and far between. Lost In The 50′s Drive-In is an old-school spot that has recently been given

Clearly the business has seen better days as what remains now seems to be a shell of its former shelf, and even the victim of some horrible graffiti tagging. I think the reported ownership change, the loss of the novelty bus and perhaps the gradual wearin
