Review Green Basil - Burnaby

Food was good. Server refilled water actively. Prices are around $20 a dish but there's cheaper pad thai options. It was good experience. Opening ours are convenient as everything else in the area closes pretty early

Horrible food. Never had a beef salad that was hot. I asked for cucumber and they put zucchini. Egg rolls had more air than filling in them. Don't waste your money

Unfortunately, this will be my first and last time order from you guys. If the curry is curry itself (not come with rice) then maybe you can put an option for add-on. For 23 dollars with more than 40min prep time, I got a small portion of curry without rice, it’s ridiculous. I though maybe the staff forgot to put my rice in so I called and found out it doesn’t come with rice. BTW while I am looking through the pictures, I saw a pic with rice. I guess this is the difference between dine in and delivery.

Been ordering from them for years. Always excellent. There was only once that it wasn't quite as good, but one less than good night out of years is more than acceptable. I highly recommend this place. We usually get the spring rolls, chicken satay, green curry chicken and prawn pad thai.
Madam Madd
Bland and terrible. I ordered pad thai and red curry. The Red Curry had very little flavour, was under salted, undercooked vegetables and didn't come with any rice. The Pad Thai had the most horrible sauce I'd tasted. No trace of the most traditional ingredient: tamarind. The sauce instead tasted way too sweet and had more of a candy sour. It honestly just tasted like the sauce used for this dish was just leftover dipping sauce. Do not recommend.

Very delicious food, great service, very friendly staff, we will come back for their happy hour. Will definetly recommend to friends.☺️☺️

Spicyyyy like Thai food should be! We got the combo for 4 and it was perfect amount of food for us with happy full bellies. Great option if you want to try a few different things.

The best Thai restaurant in Metrotown, is a must try destination

Chinese cook Thai food..taste like Chinese food court stuff, for people known little about Thai food.

Good eats. Food is always hot and fresh. Can never go wrong with the Tom Kah gai soup. Definitely the best in the neighborhood. Satay always a winner.

The food here was good and the ambience was quiet and service, fast. We shared a chicken pad thai & a seafood combo, but the prices, according to me, are exorbitant! May come back but only on a special occasion of some sort.

Ordered the pad thai with chicken and sweet curry. They were very accomodating and friendly. Pad thai was slightly on the sweet side but one of the better dishes I've tried. Sweet curry I felt was a little flat for my tastes but I would order another type of curry next time. Overall enjoyed the meal.

Who remembers entertainment book coupons? In relatable terms, they are the hard copy version of groupons and other online deal sites. Given the evolving market space and the changing of people’s preference: to not tote around any more than they have to; I was surprised that this book of coupons still existed. Who remembers to check the book and pull out a coupon on their way to dinner? Or who wants to be chokeheld into only eating from participating vendors, in order to get their money’s worth from the book?

Ordered a chicken peanut sauce on spinach w/ rice. Taste horrible. Not to mention taste of the sauce and the spinach does not match at all, on top of that, the rice served under the spinach is watery. Felt like eating rice in water....

My favorite dish is fried rice, very tasty. I also had yum won sen: kinda bland, I'm not Thai and I can make it better. Overall is good (services, portion, price). Will come back!

The lunch specials are literally $8 here which sorta blows your mind considering the food is really delicious and for that price you can leave full. Of course at that price I had to order more so we got the lettuce wraps. I highly recommend them. Staff here are patient and attentive. Definitely gonna come back!

Worst Thai food and service ever! Don't waste your time or $$ here, trust me. Service was awful. Not a place for a dining experience either. Menus were thrown down in front of us. When the server later came, she was very cold, rushed & just...bla. There were no hellos, how are you's, good bye's... Chicken was disgusting in both dishes! All skin and fat! I had to stop eating. The spinach/lettuce dish was drowning in water. When I showed the server the chicken, she tried to correct me?? For the price you pay, the quality should have been 10X better. Disappointed because I've been wanting to try it for a while. Save yourself the drive, eat left-overs, or better yet, chinese take out!

We went to Green Basil a few weeks ago and I really regret the experience. Not only I didn't like the Traditional Mee Krob I ordered but while I was eating it I found an insect.
Greenteay2k
Sauce wasn't flavourful. Thai Ice tea tastes like water. The ingredient seems lacking. The curry barely has meat in it. Can only taste spicy and a bit coconut milk.

We’ve been to Green Basil a number of times in the past but haven’t been back for quite some time. There’s a decidedly surprising lack of good Thai restaurants around Metrotown so we figured we’d come back and see if Green Basil had changed at all.

We ordered from their lunch special menu which included vegetarian spring rolls and soup. Honestly, the soup was just meh… very little flavour.

We also ordered some Chicken Satay ($10.95). I thought that the thick peanut sauce was pretty good.

Looking back at it now, we probably should have ordered something other than the Chicken and Peanut Sauce with Lettuce and Spinach ($9.95) since it was very much like the chicken satay that we ordered. There was very little spinach – it was mostly lettuce instead. The peanut sauce seemed to be the same peanut sauce that they used with the satay so, overall, a bit redundant.

The Coconut Prawns ($11.95) looked to be promising. It’s served in a coconut shell with red curry sauce and sliced coconut. There were about 4 prawns and they were a bit overcooked. The sliced coconut was sliced a bit too thick and I found the texture to be too crunchy instead of tender. Overall, the red curry did have an ok level of heat to it. The Thai House does a much better version with fresh sliced young coconut that just melts on your tongue… as does Jitlada Thai.

Overall, the food is passable in a crunch… but there’s much better Thai found around Vancouver.

We went to Green Basil hoping for a wonderful Thai dining experience but unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the WORST Thai food visits I have ever made and I definitely regret going. Kaeng Jeed Won San ($10.95): ground chicken, glass noodles with tofu and assorted vegetables. Out of all the dishes we ordered, this was the most worth it’s value since the portion was actually quite decent. The soup was really clear and there wasn’t much flavor or depth to it.

A friend recommended this restaurant before watching a movie at Metrotown, so we headed over for dinner. The place has very simple decor, but still cosy. The restaurant was sort of split in half down the middle, making it seem a lot smaller than it really is.We ordered Phad Thai $13.95 (#39A) without peanuts (only on the side).

Green Basil Thai Cuisine (抵食泰式午市特惠套餐)
地址:4623 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC
電話:(604) 439-1919
營業時間:Sun-Thu 11am-10:30pm, Fri-Sat 11am-11:30pm

I decided to get a takeout from here today, and I called in to make an order. The lady on the phone was quite friendly, and so were the other staff at the restaurant.

I got the Som Tum (green papaya salad, $10.50), but I was disappointed with the portion size. It wasn't listed as an appetizer and with the price, I definitely expected more. However, it was very flavourful and probably one of the best papaya salads I've had so far. The level of spice is definitely there! Overall, I enjoyed the food, although I found it rather overpriced.@

Screwed up a very basic order. What a disappointment. Tonight, I placed a pickup order of a mild chicken tom yum soup and a serving of deep fried calamari. The girl at the counter presented the debit card machine to me with the tip screen already showing. Usually, the customer has to check their total first yes? I bypassed it. That was the first flag.

The menu stated that the large soup serving serves 2-3 people. Ours came in a tall plastic container, the soup was ladled out sparingly into two bowls. How can this soup be enough for three people again? Do we need to add a liter of water to fix it? Well, a few seconds later, we realized we might as well have done that. The soup was alarmingly hot. I understand some restaurants miss the mild factor by like 1 or 2 sweat drops. Some. This place must've have heard my order wrong and thought oh they want the spiciest type and they charged $10 for it. It was barely edible. The calamari was on the stingy side as well.

So very disappointing. I won't come back here even if you paid me. Horrid place.

Once is enough.. We went there for the first time for we got Entertainment coupon. We have to order item from dinner menu even though on the coupon it says for both lunch and dinner. Fine. We ordered bbq chicken. We like the taste, however the portion is so small, half less compare to their menu picture. We ordered 3 items, so we dragged the empty table next to us to make space. The waiter's response quite rude. With loud noise, he cleaned the unused plates, and drag the chairs (which is not necessary) loudly, showing that he didn't like what we did. The rice noodle with basil, horrible, overcooked. The pineapple fried rice is so so. If they don't like customers bringing coupon, maybe they should stop offering coupons.

What are customers?. Upon entering, they seated the two of us in a small, wobbly table in the corner when most of the nicer tables with couches were avaliable.
The owners refused to allow us to sit in those tables when we requested, saying how we did not reserve. (now mind you, those tables were nearly empty and continued to stay unoccupied until we finished our meals).
Not impressed

Food with no taste..... I had one of the worst Cashew Chicken for chicken was cold and had no taste whatsoever... the salad was much better..... asked for the right dish, instead they tossed the same stuff back in the fry pan.. added more oil and added a pinch of red powder and gave it back... it was the same with no taste again.. except this time hot...

Lunch combos are a good price. Well sized portions. I had the pad thai and it isn't that flavorful though. Not really spicy nor sweet.. sort of mild but not bland either. I think the chef has changed. I went a few years back and the pad thai was much better.

Had I known my terrible cooking was better, I would've just cooked. ...

Filled the hole, but not good.. The pad Thai was gluey, too sweet and fishy, the papaya salad was ok but had huge chunks of raw garlic, the curry was passable, but served in a shallow wide dish, meaning it got cold remarkably fast. Very overpriced, sloppy, and horrendous service. The place was packed, I'm surprised.

New Chef, not great!. This place used to be very good six months ago. We would vist at lunch 2 to 3 times a month.. New chef cooks with way too much fish paste and we have stopped going
No Dessert Im Full
Lunch Special!. The lunch specials here are priced very well. I had a huge portion of Pad Thai which had a nice spicy kick to it, the noodles were good and it came with a decent amount of shrimp, would've liked to have seen some chicken in there too! perhaps a bit of egg? In the end though the value is nearly unbeatable for thai food.
Tasty Talk
Got delivery. Not impressed at all. Green papaya salad was mushy, pad thai had overcooked noodles. No care in food preparation. Never again.

Reasonably priced lunch specials. Came here on Saturday and we were the first customers. We ordered the Pad Thai and red curry with prawns in a young coconut. Specials came with a spring roll and a bowl of soup. Spring roll was crispy. Soup was flavorful. Large entree portions for lunch. Service was attentive and server checked up on us regularly to refill water and clear plates. Will come back.

Rude & Insensitive. I've come here many times by myself and with clients, but never again. It was the first time I took my wife here and she is very sensitive to spicy food. We've been to many Thai restaurants and there's a big variation on the level of spice that is used in the different dishes and sauces so, if it is first time my wife has been to a restaurant, she asks for a taste of the sauce. When my wife asked for a taste, the waitress simply said it was not hot. When my wife, again, explained her sensitivity and asked again for a taste, the waitress then said it was hot and she probably would not like it. She asked a third time, The waitress, clearly uncomfortable, then checked with the manager and returned to tell us that we could not have a taste. This was the only time and only restaurant that has every refused to provide a taste or to offer a sauce without "heat".

Great Value For Lunch. Lunch combos pack a lot - spring rolls, soup, and an entree.
The spinach peanut sauce chicken dish is quite tasty.
Be sure to ask for a few glasses of water if you aren't use to the spice.
Paul
Palatable....but just. Ordered Phat Thai, the most iconic Thai dish of traveler. Aged shell fish and gelatinous noodles. A disappointment
Veggie Chomper
Green Basil has yummy delivery. Green Basil has become one of my staple delivery places since moving to south Burnaby. Yummy! I am a person who primarily orders vegetarian when eating out, but my husband is not, and we are both very happy with our food when we order from here. Don't believe the hype; give it a try.

Terrible customer service. Thought we would try this place out as we had a entertainment coupon. Should have gone somewhere else as we noticed a couple places nearby were packed and this was half empty. Our waitress took our order with as little communication as she could possibly muster. We asked whether we would need one or two servings of rice and got a blank stare as she motioned to another table. Food was ok, but overpriced for quality. When it was time to pay we presented our coupon on the phone and they refused to take it. " Oh we don't accept that" My husband showed the mobile coupon and where it has their name, address and acceptance policy but to no avail. The manager smiled said sorry numerous times, offered to hold on to our phone while we drove home and got the coupon book and came back. We declined. Needless to say we won't be back.

Hit and a miss. My friend and I went here for dinner last night. For appies, we had their fish cakes (#9 on the menu) and it was delicious, the dipping sauce that came with it was flavourful. we also had their thai iced tea - best drink ever, seriously you have to try it. for my main, i had their mee krob song cuang (#41) i was disappointed because it was very bland, and that surprised me because thai food are very flavourful. good thing they have the mango sticky rice dessert because that totally made up for the disappointing mee krob. i have been wanting to try that dessert for the longest time and it didn't fail me, as my friend had put it, it was "pure happiness".

I will definitely be back even though my entree was a miss, i want to give the other dishes on the menu a chance plus i really love their thai iced tea.
Elaine
Absolutely enjoyed our lunch today:-)Out this way in the future would stop here again!

"In Your Face" Rushing. I've eaten here twice.

With regards to food, it's ok but I've had better.

With regards to price, it's actually expensive in relation to what they offer (ok food in normal portions, 12-14 bucks)

With regards to service, I'd say very poor. Poor enough that I have decided not to come back here again. It's a Sunday and we came in at 9:30 pm, they close at 10:00. It's not busy anymore, there's just one other table when we came in. A group of 6 people actually came in right after us. Knowing how close we are to closing time, we tried to order quickly and our food was served quickly as well, probably 9:45 pm.

Now don't tell me that we only have 15 minutes to eat, this is still a restaurant, not a fast food chain. I think that it is reasonable and customary to close your doors and wait for your remaining patrons to finish their meal. (but of course, you don't let anyone in anymore past your closing time)

So we ate, half way through our meal, the man gave us our bill and put it on the table without us asking for it. (I'm annoyed)

Five minutes later, the man came back again and asked us if we are paying by cash or credit card, (I'm annoyed #2)
I said credit card and he placed the credit card machine on the table next to us. (I'm annoyed #3)

My god, we are not finished eating. Why can't you wait for us to finish our meal and we will pay when we are ready. I finally paid and by the time we left it was 10:15. So basically we only ate for 30 minutes.

Eating for 30 minutes is reasonable. We are not those kind of people who are taking extremely long to finish our meal. We do understand that it is closing time.

So yeah, we stayed an extra 15 minutes past the closing time but I think, waiting for 30 minutes past the closing time is reasonable if you had customers who came in close to closing time.

I think the man is very rude for this behaviour and also he looks like he doesn't give a damn that he is offending his customers.

If they are really so concerned about closing at exactly 10:00 pm, then they should lock the doors at 9:15 so no one could come in anymore.

I will not come back to this restaurant again.
Foodcritic
Terrible service, okay food. I've been here a couple times, once for the lunch, once for dinner. We were in the Burnaby area for another reason and I got out my entertainment book, saw this coupon wasn't used and we decided on cheap Thai for the night.

Their service has never really been "stellar" by any stretch but I always take Asian restaurants with a grain of salt when it comes to service and hosting. Some blow you away and the others are mediocre to terrible.

We ordered Chicken Satay, Thai basil chicken and Pad Thai. I had Thai ice tea and the sweetheart had some coke. Within minute, out comes our two entrees. No chicken satay (my favourite Thai dish). I asked about the satay because it's an appy and it should have come out first. He said you didn't order it, then proceeded to yell at the rude server we had. And that was the jist of it. I told them not to make it and that was the end of the topic. No sorry, no offer to make it anyway, just walk away and wash your hands of it mentality. The Pad Thai isn't great. It's VERY sweet and the scallops they put in it aren't fresh and were over done. The prawns are so so, but have a hint of a bleach taste to them (a sign of poorly frozen and not fresh seafood.) The Thai basil chicken was WAY too spicey and peppery. And there were probably 5 pieces of chicken in the whole stir fry. Flavour was there, but way too much pepper and spice, so it was overwhelmed. At the end of the night they snatched our entertainment coupon and plunked down the bill. I didn't tip them and we won't be going back.

Side note to restaurants: It always baffles me that some restaurants choose to treat entertainment book guests like crap. Most of them are probably trying out the place for the first time to get a feel for the atmosphere, food and service. Making a deal over the use of the coupon and eliminating the service to pretty much 0 doesn't help your case to have customers RETURN, which I would assume is the reason why people put their restaurants in the book to begin with.
CHNAR
I liked it here before but, I'm changing that to a dislike. Terrible service. Was sat down and wasn't even given a menu till we asked for them. It took awhile to get our server to take our order. Never going here again.
Paula
Rude service and this restaurant does not know how to make pad thai....
Ricolo
So rude! I've never been to a restaurant that has been so rude. Nazis! Good food and cheap but damn, I feel so unwelcome every time I come here. Not once had the server smiled or looked at me.
Abe
Ugly plates and decor, some kinda curry food, all oriental women, service oriental, nothing here whatsoever our hosts should be ashamed of themselves
Christie Leung
We had driven past this place a few times and decided to try it. Atmosphere is alright but nothing memorable. Service was good. Food was ok not terrible but not something I would want to come back for. I ordered the yellow curry with vegetables. Portion was ok but a little expensive for 14 bucks. Taste was not bad and it wasn't really spicy. My sister ordered a dish with duck and vegetables. She was disappointed that the amount of actual meat in the dish was very little. My mom ordered the pad Thai noodles from the lunch special and said they were ok but lots of vinegar in the taste. Overall it was alright but not a place I would come back to after trying it once.
Spicular
Worst Pad Thai ever had. I was craving for Pad Thai, and what I got is definitely not the Pad Thai I knew..
Soggy rice noodles, overcooked shrimps and scallops, heaped together with lots of greyish green orion leaves..
Have to give it that the portion is large, almost enough for two people.. but just not very good Pad Thai. Disappointed.
Renee Kruger
Terrible service. Went there for lunch, was seated at a table for 4, we were two adults with a little guy. The waitress brought the high chair and everything seemed fine. When the owner took our order and we said we wanted to share a lunch special and have two bowls of soup he said we would have to move into the table for 2. The table was in the middle of the restaurant and would barely fit the high chair. There were a few open tables and no line up. I said he was being really rude, but he didn't seem to care. He said "it's Friday". I said we would have to leave, he said that is fine.

Clearly if we would have ordered more, we would have been aloud to stay. After reading the reviews it seems as though it's their regular practice to make the money priority over guests.

In a previous visit, the food was alright but nothing special. Too high priced compared to other better restaurants.
Margaret Sanchez
Food good, service not so much. If they offer the table by the cash, ask for a different one or you will be listening to crashing plates and people taking orders over the phone the whole time. I did like the food, but will not make a special trip back here.
Les_gourmandes
Should be called "Green Pepper. Came here because Thai place across the street @ Station Square had closed down. We arrived around 2pm, but they still seated people after us. Got 2 lunch "specials" - which at $10 each wasn't that special considering the red chili sauce was watered down (none of the spice promised by the 3 chili peppers marked next to menu item), "prawns" more like shrimps. '"Green Chili chicken" had thicker sauce, rice was hard, dried on top (like they'd dished it out in the AM). Both dishes filled more than with green & red pepper than chicken or "prawn". Special comes with shredded cabbage in spicy liquid ("soup"?) & deep fried roll (nice & crispy but 2 shreds of cabbage in it).Had to get up to find the server (2 other tables occupied in all of restaurant) .. most places serving spicy Thai food know to keep the water glasses full - not here! Sitting at a small table for 2, we had to ask her to remove the bowls & appy plates before trying to find a place for our lunch plates. Left a 12% tip more out of obligation than anything else as she was leaning over the debit machine - which she quickly snapped out of my hands when the transaction was done. Never saw her again. Uh... thank you? good bye? come again? None of the above. Should invest more time & $ on quality of food & "service". Will not return unless you want a quiet place to hang out for a few hours without anyone bothering you.

Spicy and good flavors. I like the food. I always order the chicken and cashew nut with chili paste and I love it. This place does make it spicier than most places, and in my opinion that is awesome. In fact, i ask for chilies on the side. When you see the menu, they note the spiciness of the food with chilies peppers on the side, so you know the level of spiciness, i do not know why people complain that it is spicy when it is clearly indicated on the menu. I also like Tom Yum soup great flavors and good mix of lemon grass and mushrooms. It is worth trying out, but @ make sure you have entertainment coupon, ave price per plate is $15

We, group of 6 ordered supper tonight, made selection according to people we had here, the food arrive paid 120$+tax opened the bag of food to find the 20$ appy plater. It included two spring rolls, 4 wings, 2 beef kebobs and 2 chicken kebobs. Seeing that a wing costs a whole 0.40$ each we phoned to see if this was the proper size, the person on the phone was rude back to us. They should really have amounts on the menu, rudeness lost them 6 customers..

Worst Thai restaurant In Vancouver. I have eaten at more than 23 Thai restaurants in Vancouver, and eat thai once a week. I had been to this one a few dozen times over the past decade. Five years ago it was acceptable food, but now not only have the quality of ingredients fallen off the chart, but basic Thai ingredients are not even in the food! It tastes like their chef was headhunted from Safeway complete with box cutter and lettuce leaf off-cuts.

This restaurant is run by a Chinese husband wife team whom i have found to be invariably dishonest and disrespectful and yet don't even know the names of Thai ingredients. If you ever want to discourage yourself from eating out, simply peak in the kitchen. If you plan on taking advantage of any kind of promotion, don't let them know or your dinner may well taste as though it was sourced from the garbage pail. Considering the food lands in your pallete like a hollow vessel devoid of flavour by means of cheap service; i have to say this is a restaurant that is in the business of just taking money , a cash grab not worth risking your health at.

It's a really good one I like it ! I tried the curry crab and the "seafood appitizer " they are delicious !! I was soooo full and I couldnt stop myself from working on it ! Just really hv to try it .

Not the best food. It has no 'wow' factor. My girl can make better food at home.

The Pat Thai or Pad Thai is not that tasty though.

Bad Service. So a group of us decided to head to the Green Basil for dinner, but we ended up leaving and heading elsewhere. When we walked in, there were empty tables so we asked for a table. The man working there basically told us there was a 30min wait and then just walked away.

He didn't even wait for a proper response from us. I now assume that the tables were reserved, but he could have said that to us. Just telling us there was a 30min wait, while there were empty tables around, and then saying nothing else and walking away made us conclude that he didn't want us to eat there.

We would have been happy to have gotten take-out, but that didn't seem to be an option for him either. Needless to say, we ended up across the street at Thai House where service was better.
Sav
Its alright. but thai house, right across the street, is much bettet

Service sucks. Two adults and two kids went for lunch. We are not big eaters. We came because we had an entertainment coupon. So we ordered two entrees and the lady said it's not gonna be enough food. My sister then said we'll just order two for now while she looks at the menu to see what she can still order. The waitress then said you have four people two dishes is not enough to feed four. So my sister and I quickly scrambled through the menu to order another dish, then the waitress put the order through. Guess what it was too much food. My kids don't eat a lot. Never going back again. I think they were not happy because there were four of us ordering only two dishes with a coupon. The food was not that great too.

Not what I expected. My wife and I usually come to the Vancouver/Burnaby area about twice a year to visit and eat at some of the great area restaurants. I am a big Thai food fan. I love all the flavors that real Thai food gives to my palete. I was a little bit surprised by all the attention this place got and was excited to eat here.

We arrived at Green Basil around 5 PM. We were seated promptly and had great service thoughout our dinner. The restaurant decor is modern Thai and flows with the presentation of their dishes. My wife ordered her go to dish, Phat See-Iw, and I ordered Phat Kee-Meow. The flavor of my wife's dish was blah and the beef was a little chewy. Her dish typically has fork sized green brocolli crowns and a sweet soy based sauce on a bed of noodles. Instead it was flavored like chow mein and had little tiny brocolli. My dish is usually is a colorful display of red tomatoes, green and red peppers with that great smell of Green Basil (hint hint) instead I was presented with a plate that included thin slices of green and red peppers but lacked any hint of GREEN BASIL......talk about missing the boat on this dish. When I order Phat Kee-Meow, I am expecting a party in my mouth. I can't say that happened. I am sure they have some great dishes on their menu, but if you want real traditional Thai food, I wouldn't eat here.
Kirah
Too much spices. They put too much seasonings, I couldn't taste other ingredients.
VC
Mmmm curry!. Great thai place. delicious food, attentive staff.
Moiz Syed
It was better than I expected!. The food came to our table within a few minutes, which was quiet surprising and scary, but it turned out to be okay.

Also, I would let go of the fish sauce on the chicken pad thai!
Alex Tuchel-Veyhl
Good food but unremarkable. We started with the spring rolls, which turned out to be fried egg rolls which were filled with hot oil which should have been drained out before being served. The egg roll sauce was good, not too spicy or to mild. After only a few minutes the entrees were rushed onto the table before we had finished our app. We shared the #43 noodles with pork and #28 yellow curry with beef. The #43 was good although a bit underseasoned with much of the taste coming from the noodles themselves. The curry was excellent, however. Overall, I liked it and would return but I would try something from their specialties page, hopefully those would be just a bit better.

Too spicy, even for Thai food. I found the food here way too spicey. It was so overpowering that I can't even remember how my food tasted like.

I enjoyed the lamb curry very much, the meat was very tender and the flavours were just right for our taste. However, the pork satay we ordered was a little disappointing.

Green Basil is located right across from Metrotown, a few doors down from Sushi Garden!! (I'm using sushi garden as a landmark because everyone knows where sushi garden is LOL.) GB offers up one of the cheapest lunch specials in the area, with an entire menu of lunch specials for $7.95!! :D "So where do you want to go for lunch?" I ask my dad. "Pho Hong." "Why do we always have to go to pho hong?" "There aren't any other good pho places nearby." "How about Pho Tam and Pho Century?" "We ate there a few months back, I didn't like it." "But Pho Hong's closed for renovations." He draws a blank and purses his lips. "You can choose then." From inside the car I spot Green Basil's signage advertising their $7.95 lunch special. "Stop the car!! Green Basil's lunch specials are $8!! I repeat: $8!! " His eyes light up. (We asians love a good deal lol!) "Let's go." After being seated, we're handed three menus. Two laminated ones: their lunch specials, chef specials, and a la carte menu. Being the cheapo that I am, I skip the regular menu completely and zone in on the daily lunch specials LOL. "Don't order any noodles or fried rice." my dad warns. "Why not?" "We're not going to get our money's worth. Order a meat dish!" Thanks for crushing my pad thai dreams dad. I order for the both of us, and the food arrives quickly. The spring rolls come first, followed by my dad's curry, and my stir fried chicken. "The lighting's really bad in here, I'm going to go near the windows!" I shamelessly take my plate of food over to the windows and snap a picture. "What are you doing? Just take the picture here!!" (In my family, I'm the one who e

Overall, this was a just okay meal (the spring rolls were probably the highlight). I can’t say that I was really disappointed since I had no significant expectations coming in, and this was still better than anything I would have had at the Metrotown food court.

Despite the claustrophobic entrance, it is quite spacious. Nothing too special to look at -- simple and clean. Traditional Phat Thai ($13.95) Rice noodle or egg noodle with shrimps & scallops, ground peanuts & bean sprout in Tamarind sauce OR tomato sauce Quite a big portion! For a single person, this will probably see you stuffed. Good for sharing as a light dinner between two persons. Tasty, safe choice. Pretty big shrimps. Haw Mok Ma Phraao ($15.95 with chicken) Red curry paste with sliced coconut served in fresh young coconut If you have it to go or have leftovers packed, ask for the coconut. Otherwise they will pour it out into a styrofoam box. This was somewhat creamy-ish and pretty tasty. Good amount of curry, although it's packed into a small coconut, so it will initially look small. Good ratio of curry to content -- that is, not "watery" and not skimpy on chicken

The service was fair/good for us but I need to comment about the service that the table beside us was receiving. Simply appalling!!!

At $7.50, lunch here is pretty much a steal. None of us could finish our meals (not even Papa Leung, though he was close) since the portions were huge.

Green Basil serves a very reasonable lunch special that lets you choose between a number of different menu items. While the prices are slightly cheaper than Thai House Royale (which is why I think Green Basil is so popular),

Their barbecued chicken is delicious. It’s moist, soft and has a great chargrilled taste to it. We barely ever touch the sauce because it’s that good on its own.

Green Basil, located on Kingsway near Metrotown, has been a spot that I like to visit when I crave for Thai food and don't want to go too far. I know there is the Thai House located nearby, but somehow I like the flavour at Green Basil better. It was a cold, rainy day that I craved for some hot Tom Yum - we came to Green Basil. It's usually a very busy location but perhaps we were there after the rush hour, we got a seat in no time. The interior is a fusion of Thai decor with dark wooden tables and chairs. The restaurant was somewhat divided by a wall in the middle, which also divided the entrance. Inside the restaurant, it can seat up to 60 people (approximately); it can also accommodate for small parties. Since we have been to this place for quite a few times, we decided to order something that we don't normally go with. At the same time, we still have a few dishes that we like. Tom Yum with Chicken ($9.50) - 5/6 Since both Greeny and I were still recovering from our co

Crazy value. I've been coming here for awhile now, and I find the service and the food to be consistently good. Their menu has a large variety of pork, chicken and beef dishes.
Veggiemonkeyeats
I can't say their vegetarian Phat Thai is too good, but their veggie version of Lettuce Wrap is pretty good.

Alright so I'm not Thai and neither was the clientele. I have Thai friends and they've never heard of this restaurant, so I really question its authenticity to traditional Thia food. I felt like it was more on the Chinese side. It wasn't horrible, but it

We had a team lunch the other day and as is often the case, I was tasked with picking the restaurant. It had been a while since I was last at Green Basil and after a quick consultation with my teammates, we decided that Green Basil would be the location o

Some ex-colleagues were to meet for dinner. Given I was appointed as the "restaurant expert", I chose Green Basil.
