Review Horizons Restaurant - Burnaby

Kelvin Lau
Nice restaurant with a view at burnaby mountain on the way to SFU. With most restaurants with a view, the price of the view is built into their menu pricing. So for the best experience, make a reservation and ask for a table by the window! I found the lamb chop appetizer quite tasty but the steaks my partner and I ordered (rib eye and NY striploin) were subpar. Service was quite good, water was constantly topped up.

Had a really good meal here for dine out Vancouver. Granted I’m sure the menu isn’t their standard one at this time but the food tasted great. Service was really fast as they wanted to turn the tables over for the next group. The views are great from here. The duck and steak we had were well prepared

Totally worth going for the view alone!! Restaurant but has limited menu choices and is pricey. Nice for a special night out but may be worth packing a picnic and checking out the park beside it because the view really is spectacular!! Included is pics of the roast lamb $45 (super tasty), the curry dish $20 (comes with whole peppers you can add in for super spicy or push aside) and the salmon that I heard was good $36 ish. Prices are from memory so not exact but gives you an idea Did I mention the view!!! Nothing short of breathtaking.

The best Calamari in town! Beautiful view and hangout even if you're not going to dine at Horizons. Beware if you are going for dinner in heels theres a bit of an uphill walk from the parking lot or get dropped off at the front. But if you want to enjoy the view you'll want some walking shoes or even wedge heels.

Brought my parents here on a snowy evening for the dine out menu. Place was warm but very dark so you cannot see the food. Also bad for photography. Steak was such a small piece that we had to ask for more meal bread. But after the second refill they stopped serving us bread. Dessert was great though.

It locates at the top of Burnaby Mountain with breathtaking scenery and a rose garden. The service is good and attentive, the food is OK but the price for the quality of food is high. We don't even want to eat dessert as it is $10 for a piece of cake!

First up, there is no vegan option on the menu... Not even a salad. If you go for lunch then they take away the wine glasses and pile them on neighboring tables which doesn't look pretty... See 4 tables close by. One of our meals arrived cold and although they didn't charge us, they made it again and thus caused a huge delay. Some meals are huge and others are much smaller. This restaurant could be great if they increased the quality.

It's a good restaurant with a great view, but suffers the same problems as a lot of restaurants with a great view: the food isn't phenomenal, you're paying for the view. It's not bad, but could use with a major update, something more new and modern rather than the somewhat '90s menu they currently have. But the view is amazing, both day and night, and the wine and cocktail list is great!

4/5Happy Dine out Vancouver 2019! We are starting the year off strong with Horizons Restaurant on Burnaby mountain. P and I went here from my mom's recommendation, she said the view and food is both good. Let's delve into the food. Appetizer- I got the chowder which I was not a big fan of, but that's more of a personal preference because I am not a big fan of shrimp - especially small shrimp, like tiny shrimp, like the entire shrimp was as big as my nail. Hmmmm. Otherwise, I felt that the soup was substantial, with lots and lots of fish in it. P had the glorified popcorn shrimp that he felt could have came with a better sauce (it was in chili sauce with black vinegar??huhhhh?) What would have been a GREAT dip would be some kind of aioli with a slice of lemon to cut through the grease.Mains - I got the BC Wild Salmon which was a very generous portion. Thought that both the fish and the risotto could have used maybe 1 or 2 more minutes in the oven. However, it was flavorful and delicious anyways. Simple but done well. Also came with a few asparagus and 2 carrots, pretty good. Would recommend.P got the 6 Oz Steak and he said that was the highlight of the dinner. Perfectly cooked and with a fantastic sauce on top. The mash potatoes were placed nicely but not particularly flavorful, same veg as my main.Dessert - I had the creme brulee which was fine, very generic. It also curiously came with a biscotti, which was super random. I didn't hate it though, still ate it. P got the smores cheesecake which I would recommend. It was nice and creamy, with a nice charred marshmallow on top. Other than that, I got a cocktail called Blue Sky, Please feel free to read my blog for the rest!~

I've eaten here a number of times over the years with family or friends, so thought it'd be a nice place to bring my wife to celebrate an early wedding anniversary last week since it was one of the places I wooed her when we were first dating. It has been a couple of years since we were last here and unfortunately this visit was horrible. I don't know if they were having a bad night or understaffed as the service was the slowest I've ever experienced here. While the appetizer calamari and Caesar salad were promptly served and tasty, that was about it. Our entrees (cioppino and BC salmon) took over 45 minutes to arrive and were unimpressive when they did. My wife thought the cioppino was pretty tasty, but nothing to write home about. My Wild BC Salmon was good, albeit a very small salmon portion. And the carrots might as well have been served raw as they were rock hard.To be fair, they were attentive to our food sensitivities, which we're trying to reason if that may have played a role in the slow service (wife can't eat dairy or eggs due to nursing our daughter who is allergic to these foods). The Manager (assumed as she was older and wasn't serving food) came out to confirm our food sensitivities, including my sesame allergy, which was nice. But I still had to ask for a simple bowl of rice to three different staff for my 2 year old son who was restless and starting to cry sitting in the high chair for so long. So no time for dessert by the time we were done. For 7 pm on a Monday night when the place was 3/4 EMPTY, this is unacceptable. Not what we were expecting nor hoping for a restaurant of this caliber to celebrate our anniversary! For the price we paid, we certainly won't be in any rush to come back here anytime soon!

My father in law had coupon for this restaurant so decided to try it out. The coupon was to $20 off so its not bad. I didn't know the food here were expensive. My husband didnt like his steak. I like my tofu curry though. The service was good. I guess the kitchen was too smoky thats why the fire alarm went on.

I was not that impressed. This place is overrated. Food was very average. The best part was the crème brûlée. Drinks were a bit disappointing. Decor was quite outdated and diner-like. Service was just ok. This is a very busy, casual family-friendly type restaurant- not at all suitable for a romantic date. Although I requested a window table for our dinner, the view was still hidden, as in most areas of the restaurant. Overall, not a restaurant I would be likely to return to.

Horizons Restaurant is located on top of Burnaby Mountain. It has a fabulous view which can overlooking the city and the North Shore Mountain. It has a huge and free parking.

We went on a Friday night, we ordered Seafood Chowder and Escargot & Mushrooms to start. Then we had Alba Tuna, Mussels & Frites, Lamb Chops, Venison Carpaccio (生鹿肉片) as our mains.

The services were overly slow, and the food were either very bland or salty. The best dish of the night was the Frites. Yes, Frites only. The Venison Carpaccio (生鹿肉片) was surprisedly not bad, and the meat was melted into the mouth.

Overall disappointed!! 😕😕

Food: 1.5/5
Services: 1/5
Special Features: "Spectacular View"

Maybe Burnaby Mountain has always been a landscape in my sights, the back of my mind. When I was a kid, our house in North Burnaby faced this giant slumping mound. Its changing hue turned as leaves on trees faded, brightened with the seasons. Reddish saffron lit fiery in fall, morning light frosted silver in cold winters, cooling whispering greens flashing in spring, dry summers charred to dullness. It was kind of our big backyard, accessible by a drive that only took five minutes. My mom and dad would take my sister, brother and me for a grassy picnic, a day of kicking a ball around, kite testing, Frisbee toss.More than two decades old, Horizons Restaurant is in the same peaceful park area we played and has the unique privilege of being the only restaurant in that vicinity. The vistas of suburban Burnaby Heights and downtown Vancouver are unobstructed from their windows’ vantage point, unless a foggy veil shades the skies that day.

worst restaurant dinning experience i have ever had. they undercooked import items like root vegeatables and overcooked tender things like fish.
The service was poor. All three times i have been there the food was terrible. this last time was the final straw. on my mother's 60th birthday! thanks a lot. the entire vancouver scene is thriving with great food culture and Horizons has yet to make a good experience.... it is an oxymoron that their food and service is so poor yet provide this great view.

unsatisfied
still hungry
dog tuned it down
rebuild from the inside out..

Overall, this was a great experience for me. Places with "views" always make me a bit hesitant, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quailty here. I was expecting a menu that was as geriatric as the general clientele here but I was wrong. Very wrong. In addition to some creatrive choices and some classics, this place has better food quality than a number of downtown joints living off their hipster vibe. Special Mention goes to the crostini and Gnochetti. Both were execptionally well done.

I was also impressed with the WIne list. Not the same tired old choices here, they've clearly gone out on a limb and the success is obvious. This place should be on your radar.

A dining experience I/we have NEVER forgotten.... This is a SUPERB place to visit, to be entertained, to DINE, see the spectacular view and so much more that I am unable to write everything here. The atmosphere is so awesome...that alone will relax you. Your tummy will say thanks as the cuisine is FANTASTIC...2nd to a very few and better than that. The fine dining is THE VERY BEST of soooo many other great experiences on the “THE MOUNTAIN". This is my wife and I most very favorite place to dine. Now that she is in Heaven, it's one of my most fond memories. We visited "THE MOUNTAIN" back in 1971 and I knew this was the “PLACE” that I would use later...thank God I was correct and (12) months later I chose this place to ask my SWEETHEART to marry me. WoW! We dined here so many times over the 36 years and 7 months of marriage. We always had an awesome enjoyable experience. Not too long before my darling went to be with Jesus...we ate here, in fact, this was the very last place we ever dined at together again. I am so thankful for that memory...the ways The Horizons looked “after" my wifey & I...the VERY BEST view of VANCOUVER and surrounding areas...the beautiful gardens, flowers and more view in a different direction will leave you in awe. OH! Did I say the FOOD is G-R-E-A-T to even better?

I’m NOT sure where the Horizons took their name from but I think it must have been because of the beautiful sunsets on the horizon...I’m referring to the horizon that God made.

To DINE here is an EXPERIENCE of your WHOLE BEING except for your soul because for that JESUS died and rose again on the 3rd day.

May God bless everyone that may read this in the future. The ONLY disappointment we EVER had up there, at The Horizons, was we had to leave here until the next time. :o)

Great view.... Beautiful setting. This is really a spectacular location overlooking much of the city and the North Shore Mountains.

We had a Sunday brunch with a group of 10 people, and despite how busy it was our service was nice, with attentive servers who really took care of us but weren't intrusive. The food was okay. The quality overall was quite mediocre. You really pay top dollar here for the views.

I'm not really sure whether to "Like" this restaurant or not.

Horrendous service. I have been there twice and both times waited well over 15 minutes till a server even touched our table. No sense of urgency at this place and the staff seem to care less if you are receiving poor service.
FOOd
My dine out experience here wasn't that great. I got the pulled pork spring roll to start, steak for my main course and dark chocolate for dessert. The spring roll with pulled pork taste very strange, steak came medium well as I asked for medium rare and the vegetables on the side was under cooked, dessert is overly sweet. The server did not even asked once how our food was. I would not recommend this restaurant as it lacks customer service and very low quality food.

Excellent service for Dine out! Attentive staff, quick without rushing us. Food was very good!! Beautiful view.

5 yrs since I went coz of the dreadful food and snobby don't bother me service. Well today it was the anniversary of this undesirable experience. Uncooked vegetables. Bland mash made of gone bad potatoes didn't even eat both of them. The pork loin was more like sugar soaked canned meat. Actually only the dark matter beer was ok( as in not flat) I guess can't expect anything better then gone- bad home food for $28 each.

New Year's Eve Experience. My family went here for the first time for new year's eve and here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
The atmosphere was lively and the staff were great. The location is quite lovely and it was a clear night so the city lights were very visible.

Cons:
The DJ was, for the most part, pretty terrible. Most of the dinner music was pre-70s and closer to midnight he hit the 80s onwards. I'm almost certain 'Auld Lang Syne' was not played. Also, the sound system had a lot of feedback, which affected the sound quality. I expected better from someone DJ-ing such a big night.

The food was rather disappointing.

I want to relay that I had a very enjoyable night with my family but the experience was not enough that I would go back for this particular event or be inclined to dine there for a regular evening.

Really Disappointed!! Service really sucks, management needs help, big time!!. I will try to be as fair and objective as I can. I've been to this restaurant on a few occasion due to it's location to celebrate milestone birthdays, etc due to the location. Horizon restaurant is in a great location. On a clear day, you can't beat the view. It has a beautiful, even romantic setting. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end.

I would not write this review, if I thought it was a bad day for the restaurant or the server(s). This has happened 3 times in a row.

For a restaurant that command high prices (approx $450 for 7 people with 1 bottle of wine), the service needs significant help. The attitude of the server was extremely cool and unaccommodating. She made us feel that we were privileged to be served. When told of the stale beer, she didn't apologize, but rationalized that it was the end of the keg, and they didn;t have any more (her attitude.....take it or leave it). She did not charge for both beers (just 1). When asked for 2 separate checks, she say ok but..(her attitude....it was a major inconvenience for her).

As this was a special occasion for my daughter, I spoke to her in private hoping to improve the service to commensurate with the occasion and high prices. The manager overheard us and basically told me to sit down, and that it will be better. However, the manager did not once come to our table throughout the night to see how we were doing.

Now to the food, we ordered a variety off the menu from the rack of lamb, sable fish, salmon, etc. It was mediocre at BEST. Our dinners were luke warm. Also this restaurant started charging for bread (where most restaurants provide it for free)....whatever.

I think most people would forego the food quality for an enjoyable occasion to celebrate certain milestones in life. For our party, we were EXTREMELY disappointed with the service and management ......which left a LOT to be desired.

On a previous occasion we waited 45 minutes for our food (between appetizer and main course), and I noticed it was already cooked and sitting under the warming light. When the waiter finally came around, i mentioned this and she literally rolled her eyes. The food was luke warm....no apologies. Seeing that I was upset, they sent a different server to serve us.

On the first occasion, celebrating a 40th birthday, again the service was really BAD. We had to ask for refill of water, we had to ask for coffee, we had to ask for everything! We felt that we were inconveniencing the servers. Prior to the dinner, I had given the restaurant notice that it was a special occasion, but there was NO effort to accommodate (waiters wishing happy birthday, etc) The 16 of us were extremely disappointed!

This is a restaurant that automatically tacks on a 15% gratuity regardless of size of party (seven in the last case). Call me old fashion, but I usually provide gratuity based on SERVICE, and I usually exceed the normal convention with good / friendly service. Due to the repeat experience, I think the servers at this restaurant honestly feel it is a privilege for patrons to be dining at this location and therefore justifies the low quality and poor service.

I will never go back. For us to spend $65-$70 per person, there are far too many restaurants in Vancouver that would appreciate the business and provide a minimal acceptable level of service!

Seriously disgruntled patron!

I was really on the fence whether to say I liked it or didn't but I had to say I didn't like it as there was more cons then pros. The service was ok however our waitress seemed rather unfriendly and wasn't good. She was European I believe and English was not her native language. She didn't smile, talked very monotone like, didn't check in on us after we got our food nor ask me if I wanted another drink after finishing my first one quite early into the dinner. Infact I had it finished before our entree arrived so there was plenty of time for her to ask. The food was ok but I wasn't blown away considering this isn't that cheap of a place. My steak was not really tender. The cappuccino cheese cake was amazing however I highly doubt it was baked In house. So in summary service 3/10, food 5/10, atmosphere well how can you not like the views surrounding etc so 10/10 there. Will probably not return.
Bon Appetit
A Great Experience. Went on a Thursday and it was fairly busy. We did not get a window seat but asked the waitress to move us once a table cleared up and she did. Had the Calamari, Mussels and Clams, Steak (done to perfection) and Pork Tenderloin. All of which were delicious! My only criticism is that their presentation needs a little fine tuning. The view is gorgeous and very romantic when night falls. The staff is friendly and very professional. We will definitely be back.

Bad service, good food. My partner and I were led to our table and were given a regular menu. We waited for awhile and our server finally came to greet us. We told him that we have a Groupon. He came back with a Groupon menu and left. We waited for about 10 minutes and server from a different section noticed that we've been waiting for quite some time. She came over and asked if we've been helped, and then went to get our server for us. We didn't get our iced water, we had to ask for it. The server was just not very attentive.

However, the food was not bad. We ordered clams and mussels for appie. The broth was nicely seasoned and not too rich. The New York Steak was cooked perfectly as requested and the Pork Loin was juicy and tender. The desserts were mediocre.

Overall, I was expecting better service at Horizons. This restuarant will not be a restuarant that I will return to.

Came here for the dine out menu. Food was great! Service was also great! Server was aware we were trying the dine out $28 menu and still kept up with the level of service expected at a fine dining place. She smiled at us, checked up on us, refilled drinks and pointed to us there is a future discount if we return as stated on the bill. Place was packed and still our sever managed to check up on us and serve food at a timely manner. Also helped that there were extra staff working too. Glad the restaurant made the effort during the dine out event to leave customers with a good impression. Some places don't bother to do that because they assume that if you are paying a set price that there is no effort required. I was pleasantly supprised with the food and service. Will come back.
Enjoys Good Food
Delicious food, service ok. Got a Groupon deal, $98 for 4 (starter, entrée, dessert). I got the mussels and clams to start, steelhead for main, and creme brûlée to finish. Food was great! But because we had a Groupon, we were sat at the furthest possible table from the view. We asked to move tables to get a partial view. Restaurant was not overly booked. Waiter was ok, hardly smiled, seemed irritated. Not sure if this is connected to having a Groupon, I think it does slightly. They probably think that because we have coupon we won't tip well. The funny think is, there is a statement on the groupon to tip generously. But what if the service was lousy? For a dinning establishment of that level I think they need to put some restrictions on toddlers freely running around and around and around tables. Felt like I was Mac Donald's.
Natalie W.
Aims too high. Horizons reminds me of some other chain restaurants that aim for "high end", but ultimately cannot hide the chain restaurant quality. I've eaten there on 3 occasions. The last visit was probably the best value, because we got the 3 course meal for $39.95. This is served with an appetizer, entree and dessert.

Totally disappointing altogether. We drove nearly one hour to eat here with greatest expectations and the result was absolutely disappointing! I ordered New York Steak because they ran out of Filet Mignon, the featured menu of the day. The steak was chewy and stiff. I didn't finish it. My friend ordered halibut which was less than mediocre. They also lacked some very basic supplies such as paper napkins. I don't like using cloth napkin to wipe off my mouth. They brought me paper towel from the bathroom!!! when I asked for a proper napkin, the waitress brought me one small napkin that looked wrinkled! Then she managed to find a few pieces of similar napkins less worn out! I used them rather sparingly for fear that she might bring me another worn out piece! A restaurant of this caliber where a plate of halibut and a piece of steak costs 33 dollars should be able to do better. Utter disappointment!

Certainly not worth the drive or the money.
Jackson
I always feel that the food should be better. Service gets 10/10, the place it's self 9/10 but the food is more of an 8/10. Which is disappointing considering the price and the expectations. That being said, it still is a great restaurant, one of the best in Burnaby. Great staff and an amazing view.

Panoramic view. We dined here following my oldest daughter's last taekwondo competition. I really enjoyed the subtile flavours of the dishes we ordered and the excellent service. My daughter really enjoyed the selections on the breakfast buffet. Very nice place to bring out of town guests. Update: After having gone a second time, I decided that breakfast or brunch is a far better time to visit rather than dinner. Dinner, good, but not outstanding.

Fantastic. Always consistently good food

Not perfect but quite good. Food was cooked well and tasty. Service was fairly attentive with no undue waits. A couple small gripes on attention to detail, though. For instance, the empty bread basket stayed on the table for our entire meal. I know that seems petty, but there were a few of those oversights that irked me a bit when paying that kind of money. Still very good, though ... Next time I'll try lunch to better enjoy the view.
Ann.
Bad service bad food during the dine out period. The main course- salmon was overcooked and the soup was just okay. Do not recommend going :/

Decent. We went here for the Dine Out menu. First thing we noticed was how inaccessible Horizons is for someone without a car. Good luck finding your way up the pitch black windy narrow road up the mountain!

I asked for the steak medium rare and it was PERFECTLY DONE. Perfect. I have to say that really impressed me right off the bat. I had the albacore tuna for an appy and it was tasty as well, great seasoning on the edges. I didn't really like the dessert as it was more chocolatey than other creme brulees I've had in the past.

My mom ordered the spinach & frisee and enjoyed it for the most part, except that the blue cheese was quite stronger than she had imagined it would be. The salmon was average and while she didn't like the poached pear brioche I loved it.

All in all, not bad for a Dine Out option but would I purposely come here again? LIkely not.

Good place to go if brimging visitors. We like to come for the sunsets during summer, but find food options really limited, as vegetsrians, we van only ever have tge gnochi, wgich is way too rich and heavy, as a result we end up dplitting the dish- good sevice though

TERRIBLE. This was the absolute worst experience I had ever had. A group of 4 of us went last night for my birthday on New years eve. Cocktails were mediocre, once the main courses arrived-none of us could even eat our meals. They were completely awful. The lamb was extremely fatty, far undercooked. The salmon had the most fishy, seafood taste. Yes, I do realize it IS seafood, but high quality salmon should not have this flavor. As for my steak, it tasted like nothing. Extremely bland. All 4 prawn skewers were tasteless, undercooked and tasted like WOOD!? Upon complaining to Diane the general manager, we were informed that no-one else that night had complained about the night and she was unwilling to do anything for us. However, she gave us 4 glasses of cheap champagne even after we informed her that two of us did not drink alcohol for religious reasons. An awful birthday dinner. Go spend 350$ somewhere else, as we had to stop at McDonalds on the way home because we were all STARVING.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Here for an X-mas party and 1 hour and 45 mins later, finally getting main dish.

Perfect!. Awesome awesome food.... awesome and magnificent views... a gem in burnaby mtn.
A lot of men take their dates to places like the high rise revolving restaurants but I think Horizons is way better!

Great view, okay food.. Came here for the surf-and-turf special for a birthday. I was the only one who didn't get the special (was the fifth person and it's only good for four per table), and got the short rib instead. On my fellow diners' plates, the steak looked good but the lobster looked a little dry in some cases - just like my short rib. There was lots of meat, but it could've used more sauce to soften it up. Still, for twenty bucks for the special, it's hard to complain.

As for the service, it was quite good. The person was attentive all the way, coming along several times to see how we were doing (granted, we came early). The ambiance was also good, with the view being wonderful and the establishment nicely appointed.

I'll come again.

Food is great. Service, not so much.. I decided to go to Horizons last year for my birthday. I had gone not too long ago with some friends and really enjoyed myself. I think I had a coupon or a receipt that entitled me to a free entree during dinner time, but I wanted to go for lunch. I called the restaurant and they assured me I could use my coupon for a lunch entree, but it wouldn't be too good a deal since lunch is usually cheaper than dinner. I didn't mind.

We ended up going and had a lovely lunch, and this is where my parents met my boyfriend for the first time so it was quite an important occasion. When we asked for the bill, I explained to the waitress what the person on the phone had told me, and handed her the coupon. By the time the bill came with our discount, only $10 had been taken off and not the full price of one of our our entrees. I was clearly disgruntled but my parents decided not to make a big deal since they didn't want to seem impolite in front of company.

To this day I still feel like that waitress ruined our lunch, and the next time I won't hesitate to let them know if they do something wrong.

7 out of 10.. Yes very pricey. Food was pretty good. Went Valentines Day. For what you pay, I exepcted better all around. Wine is priced far to high. $30 for the cheapest bottle of BC wine. The mozzarella cheese on the appy was tastless. The braised short rib was very good as was the pork tenderloin. View is fanatastic. However I felt the server was far to busy to give good service. Not her fault. She had too many tables to look after. I would return when I don't mind dropping $160 for dinner for 2.

Love the food. I have had a wide variety of the menu. My recommendation is the rack of lamb. Mouth watering !!

Location: Amazing views, gorgeous modern interior with great ambience lighting, superior service that wasn't intrusive nor rushed. Food: Perfectly cooked every time, good portions, the peppercorn steak is my favorite: the au jus sauce is perfect, potatoes are delicious, and the chef cooks steak perfectly every time. Try the lemon cheesecake dessert: it's light, melts on your tongue with bursts of devine flavour! Note that this resto is high end and the prices reflect that. Considering the service, food quality & taste, location, service and ambience, I'd say it's greatly worth it for a special meal or occasion!

Relaxing lunch. Great views, good food, good service, the new york steak was done perfect, the Pacific Cioppino Bowl is good, the best was the sandwich, House Smoked Salmon Clubhouse. Some people want to eat more later.
Prices a bit high but is good for a special occasion .

Great Place, Great Food and Services.. A good and enjoyable place to go for 2!!!

Good but lacking. Good view, expensive, steak was eaxactly as ordered and pink wine price very high and the view good. No lookers on the staff though so more of a wife restaurant than a date or party with friends type place.

Great location, nice food. We dropped in horizons to have a quick cup of tea but decided to go for their blueberry pancakes as well. the portion turned out to be HUGE (3 giant pancakes); i split them with my BF and we didn't even manage to finish them though they were in fact quite good. the meal was served really elegantly, but the waitress was a bit too omnipresent; she kept coming up to our table to ask "how we were doing".

our bill was about CAD17 for 2 green teas and a portion of pancakes, tax included, and i was somewhat annoyed when the waitress asked "do you need the change?" -- aren't they supposed to leave it up to me to decide on the tip? but anyway, overall it's a nice place with a lovely view, and even though it is overpriced for vancouver, it was a positive experience. oh! and i wish they had wi-fi for guests.

Closed for repairs. There was an extensive fire on April 15. Although we wanted to try the Red Curry Tofu Bowl, we decided to go with the meats. I tend to gravitate towards fish… so this is what I ordered. The salmon is grilled on their Alderwood barbeque and is served with lemon emulsion, forest mushroom Italian parsley parmasan risotto and some sautéed veggies. I really loved the lemon emulsion...

We were invited to join my fifteen family members at Horizons for my little cousin's birthday. Normally, I would say that's a bad idea - for seventeen people to dine at a quiet romantic type restaurant, but I'm glad I was wrong. For this dine out, I ordered from the dine out menu and my partner ordered from the normal menu. Our table shared two bottles of Lindeman's Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon. It went down so smooth my uncle said you can drink it straight from the bottle. As appetizer, I ordered the crab cake. At first I thought it was too fishy, it didn't taste like fresh crab meat. Then I realized it was served with wasabi, and it was the "wow" factor in the dish. As our entree, I ordered the pork tenderloin while my partner ordered the New York Steak, rare. The pork was really tender, juicy, and flavourful. I was afraid we were going to be shortchange during dine out, but the dish was so big we had to pack half of it. The steak was done just right. It was properly cooked - pink throu

At first, we were seated at a table where Grayson was sitting to the side of me instead of in front of me. He didn’t like this type of seating because he felt that it was a little awkward so he asked our server if we could move tables. To our surprise, we were able to not only change our tables, but our new spot was much more roomy because it was a 4 person table. Albacore Tuna tataki: This dish came with 3 slices of togarashi rubbed seared tuna, tomato slices, avocado, and a frisee salad. The tuna was beautifully seasoned and seared. You could taste the hint of spice from the chili pepper rub but the light tangy salad vinaigrette helped balance everything out. I really enjoyed the vinaigrette they had on the frisee and I haven’t encountered anything like it before. I think that it may have been a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, mirin and a citrus of sorts. To be honest, I always get a little weary about ordering Japanese dishes at restaurants that don’t have Japanese as their specialty but I think that having this dish opened my mind to it because it was just that amazing!

...Horizons gives us the impression that you are in a restaurant for tourists who get hungry and look for a quick snack.. while looking at the view and do not need to enjoy the food.

I’d classify Horizons as a “fine-dining” establishment, but you definitely won’t mistake it for something you’d find downtown. I like it because it’s rather intimate and quiet—you can have an actual conversation here, without having to worry about too-loud music and/or too-loud people. The service has been decent and friendly the few times I’ve been here, but I did experience a little bit of awkwardness this time around (the waiter seemed like he was preoccupied with something). And of course, the view from the south-side window seats can’t be beat—on a sunny afternoon, you can see all the way to the airport in Richmond!

I absolutely loved how the soup was not overly creamy or buttery because that was my biggest concern. The wild mushrooms really gave the soup a nice earthiness to it.

Newly renovated Horizons Restaurant Horizons has been around for awhile, but since it’s on a mountain. It’s sometimes forgotten. So when I told my mom that there was a deal happening right now, she nodded with a yes. They are having a $24 off deal for every 2 entrees ordered until the end of May. We went the day before Official Mother’s Day to skip the crowd and also they didn’t offer the deal on Mother’s Day. We arrived around 5pm, yes very early, because apparently I didn’t make an early enough reservation. So all the prime times were taken. That’

On most of our past visits, the view from up here has been obscured by fog. On this visit in mid-December, however, the weather was cooperating and we had a clear view from the restaurant.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Horizons… so much so that I can’t recall what it looked like before the renovations. Truth be told, the place didn’t look very different – but I suppose one could be excused for not noticing the changes since the expansive view from Burnaby Mountain is one of the main draws to this restaurant.

I ordered my steak medium-rare and it actually came medium rare, which is a good sign.

On a clear day, few places do this quite as well as Horizons on Burnaby Mountain. Its position overlooking the whole city makes it worth adding to your list of where to eat in Vancouver, even with the drive. Where to Eat in Vancouver for Great Views and Fabulous Food Over the holidays the Vancouver Mom team met up at Horizons for a celebratory lunch. The day was beautifully sunny but very cold, so we only paused briefly to take in the view of the park before heading inside to warm up. While we had reservations, the restaurant was quiet, leaving us free to take in the sweeping scenery from pretty much every angle. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, answering our questions and leaving us to enjoy our food. The lunch menu features 12 different entrees, ranging in price from $14 – $24. While there are vegetarian and carnivorous options, sea

for the month of March, they’ve been running coupons in the Georgia Straight and also online on their site, for a Steak & Lobster meal for only $19.95. It expires March 31st, 2011, and I’d suggest you make reservations! I’ve been trying to go the entire month with my family, but last week we didn’t make reservations and they were full until 830, far too late for me to take pictures, so we rescheduled to tonight.

I don't know much about fine dining. I know fast food, cheap eats, good place to get a drink, "looks good", "seems interesting", "we can try that" kind of places, but none of those include fine dining. To celebrate a friend's graduation, I thought

Last night Suanne and I had a timeout from the boys and we went to a fine dining restaurant called Horizons on Burnaby Mountain. The restaurant is nestled in the beautiful Burnaby Mountain Park and overlooks the bright city lights of Vancouver below.

We chose Horizons on Burnaby Mountain Park because we didn't feel like going too far. It's about 10 min walk? The complimentary bread wasn't very good. I had the rainbow trout and my friend had the Cioppino's dish. the trout was ok. Nothing fancy schmancy
