Review Pepperwood Bistro - Burlington

Great experience! Staff is super friendly and loved the food. We tried their Pad Thai, Chicken Supreme and Chicken Wings and all were good. Pad thai tasted great. We wanted to have Buffalo wings which weren’t on their menu hut Kevin was kind enough to provide a substitute for hot sauce. It would be nice if they can include it on the menu. We sat at the patio and it was lovely. Will I visit again? Yes

So many years ago I used to live in Burlington but never had a chance to eat at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I took a drive along the Lakeshore and decided to grab something to eat. It was lunch hour and Sunday so they place was quite busy. Food so delicious, staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Clean and spacious interior and the view of the lake makes this restaurant even more inviting

The 2 star is only because the staff is nice but as for the food it's like cafeteria food. 2nd time I was here and still yuck. We went for brunch and discovered just disgusting food. We should have picked up on the fact that they had 4 menus. This is a spot you are paying for the location and not the food. For brunch we ordered the shared Farmers fest. Here's what it includes (pictures are provided) Sausage, Eggs, fruit, Waffle, Bacon, Eggs Beny. Here is what you get..... Dehydrated sausages that are over cooked Eggs - that appear to be liquid in lumps Fruit - that has been sitting in the same bowl for 4 days Waffle - the frozen one you put in the toaster Bacon - dried out and tasteless Eggs Beny - grilled peameal and an overcooked English muffin with a hollidasie sauce from a can. Just like a nasty buffet that is included in a 2 star cheap all inclusive. The portions were good but it just disgusting. If the owner sees this please...please change this up as its an embarrassment to Burlington. You can offer simple dishes and drinks and still make amazing margins.

Very disappointed! Had a birthday luncheon and the food was not what I expected. We had 5 different meals. The red curry Mussels with a side Caesar, the juice was not flavorful, needed something, mussels were ok but no flavor. 2nd meal was the 1/2 Margherita pizza with a mixed green salad. Pizza tasted pre-made and cardboard pizza crust. Definitely not made in house. 3rd dish was Korean ribs which were rubbery and covered in too much sauce. 4th meal was the steak dinner which the steak was so tough, terrible! Last was a mixed green salad with chicken breast. The chicken tasted like it was first boiled then put on the grill for grill marks. As for all the salads, all of mixed green salads had bad lettuce in it. Very disappointing since we were celebrating a birthday and not even a free dessert was given to our guest of honor. We also ordered a pitcher of peach sangria which cost $30 for the pitcher, not so much the price however, it also lacked something. I've eaten here before, about a month ago and the food was amazing, unfortunately not this time. Not sure why.

It's a cozy old school pub inside with a really nice and large patio on the outside. Has your typical pub food, bit tastier than regular but also priced a bit more than regular. They have an inhouse breed cream ale and a brown, I quite liked the brown although found it served warmer than it should. Should have gone with the beer flights sampler if I knew the pint would be warm. Service was friendly, and the patio makes up for it.

I have often driven by this place en route to elsewhere and wanted to stop by. I did so a couple of weeks ago and was not disappointed! A wonderful patio and staff who go above and beyond! We had the calamari and Baja shrimp tacos. The food - the cocktails - the atmosphere.....all were perfect!

Staff was friendly and the restaurant followed COVID protocols (i.e contact tracing, hand sanitizers, etc). We were seated at the patio on a very nice and sunny day. Thank goodness our waitress gave us a table with an umbrella, otherwise, we would have been sunburnt! Food was average, we ordered the fried calamari as a starter and it wasn’t fried enough. When I bit into it, what’s suppose to be the crusty part was mushy. The batter fell off the calamari quite easily. As for the gnocchi, it was basically drowning in bolognese sauce. There was way too much sauce! At one point, I felt like I was drinking soup. The food definitely needs a bit of improvement. Not sure I’ll be back again.

Still on my finding experience here ( July 29,2022). Just overall disappointing. As a person of Colour it’s very fine line between racism and just being rude but I’d like to refer to the first. I walked in and asked for another table in the corner , the host/ floor manager ( and older lady) I was told it’s a 4 top and it will get busy soon( I am still here and 3 parties walked in- none of them a 4 top). I had the carbonara and it was not good, very bland , no Flavour at all. Our server spoke to the white guests really nicely, very attentive but to us she seemed very dismissive and quick. My fellow black people, don’t come here, this one ain’t for us.

Haven't been here in over 3 years due to disappointment on our last visit. Thought I would give it another try..sadly disappointed again. Service was incredibly slow. 20 minutes waiting to order drinks. The food is OK, nothing to brag about. The prices are ridiculous for the quality of food. My calamari was so salty I could barely eat it. You can't make reservations either so we waited 40 minutes for a patio table. Because of Covid, I won't eat inside restaurants. Won't be back.

The lobster Mac and cheese is to die for!!! Love sitting on the patio in the summer time too. Service is a little slow but the food makes up for it. It's about $80 for two people, great for date night or girls night!

A group of us had dinner on the patio recently. Beautiful hot evening and we were celebrating a special occasion. Our server was friendly and helpful. Their patio menu is a bit stale..items such as fish and chips, spaghetti & meatballs and pizza. I ordered the Brewhouse salad; it was enjoyable for a fairly standard item. It was the same for everyone else. Their meals were fine....but no rave reviews. The location and view of the lake from the patio are great. We had a nice evening..but the food was not the highlight I expected. I hope they can kick it up a notch.

Food was over cooked and service was mediocre. Might be nice to sit on the patio but trying to go for an elegant dinner was disappointing.

The view was lovely.

The food was average...and not hot by the time it made it to us! I ordered a pasta dish and Caesar salad, both run-of-the-mill. My friend ordered a stroganoff - which was quite greasy. My impression of the menu was that it was waterfront-priced but unremarkable.

In summer, beware of the trees overhead which like to dump, en masse, their organic bits on patio diners below.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place! A group of 12 of us came here for a friends birthday dinner and we were amazed and very satisfied with the service and atmosphere. Our waitress Jessica was one of the best I have ever had. She was very helpful, patient and had a great personality! We started with a few appetizers and drinks; the calamari is delicious (highly recommended). They had a great selection of wine and it was priced reasonably (8oz ~$11). I tried a flight of 3 of their house beers (5oz each ~$7).

As for mains, I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese (~$24). I've had better lobster Mac and cheese before but it was still worth the try. I also recommend trying the pot of mussels, they are quite satisfying!

Since it was our friends birthday dinner, we had brought 2 of our owns cakes to surprise them (called Pepperwood before hand and they said it was perfectly fine that we did that). Our waitress was kind enough to bring the cakes out with candles then take them back to the kitchen to be sliced and plated for everyone. As a added bonus, I got the live band to sing happy birthday for the bday girls.

Overall, great place with a warm atmosphere and nothing but good vibes :)

Too many options on this menu. Atmosphere was family friendly. Service was good. Ordered the meatball poutine - nice. The better items were too expensive - risotto for $30?! 7 wings for $17?! I don't think so. On top of that, a friend tried the "smoked for 24 hrs" wings - barley taste the smoke - very forgettable! Pizzas look good and the rosemary chicken burger was nice. I appreciated the atmosphere and the service.

I've been quite a few times. Their home brew is terrific and the food is always up to par. I had the mussels and the flavour did not disappoint. I'll return again and again.

The food and the service here was really bad. They have an amazing patio and can offer a smaller menu with better quality products and train the staff.
Our food took forever to get to the table the coffee was cold. Our water glasses had lipstick stains on them. And one of our guests at the table asked for poached eggs to be well done and got to the table runny.
Great place to meet friends for a drink. But will never eat there again.
I've been itching to try this place for ages and last week I finally went! We sat on the patio on a beautiful day and overlooked the lake. I ordered the pizza & salad for $15. I chose the ceasar salad with the prosciutto and apple pizza and it was divine. Half a thin crust pizza was a perfect size and the toppings all went together perfectly. Will definitely be back!

We definitely made the right choice because the rain came down hard halfway through our meal...The menu reflects the décor with classic North American comfort food... Meatloaf was wrapped in house-made bacon and it consisted of veal, pork and beef. It was drench in “Wellington Stout” barbeque gravy and served with onion rings and mashed potatoes. It was massive and delicious!
Mmmmm.......
Don't get the lamb burger. Went to Pepperwood recently for lunch on a Sunday, and ordered the lamb burger... It didn't taste like lamb, so I asked if it might have been mixed up in the kitchen with a beef burger. They assured me it was definitely the lamb burger. But later, the waiter told me it's made with both pork and lamb (it didn't say anything about pork on the menu). It must have been 80% pork and 20% lamb. Then I found a small piece of glass in the meat! They comped it, but it wasn't a very good experience overall. However, my husband really enjoyed his meal from the brunch menu. Perhaps brunch is a safer bet.

Nowhere near what the original Pepperwood was. Very disappointed. Sunday ruined.. We arrived for a Sunday lunch. Pepperwood used to be a very good place for food, beer and atmosphere. Well, that is not longer the case. I used to go to Pepperwood every evening on my way home from work. It was like family there. A wonderful experience with friends and good beer and wonderful food. Sad to say, Pepperwood is no longer Pepperwood.

And a comment to Urbanspoon. Pepperwood is not in Toronto, Ontario. It is in Burlington which is far away from Toronto. Smarten up Urbanspoon. You are putting yourself in the same light at Pepperwood and that is not good.

Wine. We ordered a glass of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc. It was $15 for an 8 ounce glass. The LBCO sells this wine for $14.95 a bottle. That gives Pepperwood over $30 profit per bottle if three glasses of wine are purchased. Well, I must say, a restaurant needs to make a profit but this is way over the top. Now I know why others in the restaurant were all drinking water. If we deign to return to this place, it will be water as well.

The sandwich ordered was called seven grain turkey and avocado. The seven grain bread did not look as good as a loaf of Dempster's. The menu suggested something special but it was not special. Avocado? A sniffer dog would have had trouble finding it. And that goes for the cranberry aioli as well. It was described as containing aged white cheddar. Yes, that is true. A paper thin piece. It was hard to believe that this was the same sandwich described on the menu. Ah, but the turkey was quite good. However, overall? Disaster.

And then there was the moules et frites. The menu said that the mussel dish could be accompanied by chips for an extra three dollars. The amount of chips could have easily fit into a coffee cup. How disappointing. Ah, but then maybe I was saved because the quality of "our famous fresh cut Yukon fries" was abysmal. Yuck! No wonder the waitress brought a bottle of ketchup. She knew.

The mussels were fine. Nice garlic tomato sauce but no white wine taste as advertised on the menu. And there was no aioli as advertised on the menu. When the waitress appeared, she said she might have forgotten it and left it in the kitchen. No, she said it wasn't there. Then a few minutes later she said the menu had been changed and the aioli was not longer part of the moules et frites. What a bloody lame excuse. No reduction in price for something that was advertised and not delivered. I shall have to telephone Michael Hassard, the boss, to alert him to this problem

If you want to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon lolling over lunch with a special friend, do not go to Pepperwood Bistro in Burlington.

There are many other restaurants that produce quality meals and serve wines at reasonable prices.

Be warned!

Not Recommended I visited P.... Not Recommended
I visited Pepperwood Bistro for the first time on Saturday night. I was initially impressed with the decor and prompt service. I ordered the Parma pizza which was fair at best. A friend of mine ordered the same along with a double Whisky on the rocks. When the drink arrived, he noticed 5 fruitflies stuck to the bottom of the inside of the glass...very unappealing. When he brought it to the attention of our server all she did was comp the drink. Not the type of customer service I would expect from a restaurant that labels themselves as a "fine dining bistro". Very disappointing; wouldn't return for dinner.

Rough service. My fiancé and I went on a slow evening, we wanted to sit on the patio, so we went to the hostess station where a girl sat us at a table. Our server came over shortly after and got mad at us for sitting at a dirty table (like this was in any way our decision). She then sat us at a different table, which after sitting us realized was also dirty and then got flustered, but cleaned it and got us menus. We were just stopping in for a drink on the patio. I ordered the monkey brown, my fiancé a white wine. After, a few minutes the server returned to inform us they were out of the monkey brown. I ordered the framboise and then got my pronunciation corrected. "Oh you mean the framboize." No but okay. To which ten minutes later came a heady, short pour.
All in all, our server was unprofessional, if not just plain rude. And it's expensive.

Not worth the price AT ALL. Avoid if you are looking for affordable quality food. Atmosphere is nice on the patio and it's a nice spot for a good time with friends.

Nice patio, low quality food.. This restaurant is stricktly for drinking on the patio. Went and had a pitcher of sangria which was great! loved it. The view of the lake is gorgeous. But their food is way over priced and not great. You get small portions and the food lacks flavour.

Worst experience ever!. This restaurant was awful! Was served raw chicken (and I don't mean "sort of" raw, it was blatantly red/raw when I cut into it) ---- waitress made me wait 20 minutes while the kitchen cooked a new one while my boyfriend's meal was already served. Finally the new dish came out.... by this time my boyfriend's meal was ice cold. Nobody cared. We get the final bill.... restaurant had the audacity to charge an extra $8 for my meal because I substituted the broccoli that came with my meal with green beans. THEY SERVED ME RAW CHICKEN AND HAVE THE NERVE TO MAKE ME PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE MEAL, PLUS A SURCHARGE FOR THE VEGETABLE! Absolutely awful, stay away from this place, they do not understand customer service whatsoever.

Stay away from here!. I've eaten there twice. The first time was a Reuben sandwich with fries, the Reuben wasn't bad but the fries were horrible. The second time, I had one of their hamburgers and I forgotten about what their fries where like, I quickly remember how horrible they were, the burger was some tasteless slab of meat and I did not finish any of it.

So.... highly over priced for terrible food, I am never eating there again!

The farthest thing from fine dining.. Fine Dining would be the last phrase I would use to describe this establishment. You would expect a lot given the prime location, high end initial appearance and astronomical prices. My wife and I at a closer look found this establishment to be filthy, the menus were grimy, the tables and walls were covered in stains it was apparent that there was little daily cleaning performed by the staff. (poor general management). Our meal arrived in a timely manner, we had ordered the mushroom toast, greens salad and cod with chips. The fish was rubbery, over battered and grease oozed out when cut apart, the overall portion was small and poorly covered up with a mound of greasy chips. The greens salad was obviously prepared several days prior by the prep staff and was served to us browning, limp and slimy. We sent the salad back and were brought a "fresh" one as per the server, which was quite nice and fresh. The mushroom toast was nothing special, but overall was the only piece of the meal that did not scream that it came from lazy, mismanaged kitchen staff. It is apparent that the chef in charge, sets no standards for his day staff in regards to turning out fresh product. It was apparent that the fryer oil was in desperate need of changing. I wonder if a friday evening would have been different, but as far as a thursday lunch it was apparent that little effort was to be put in. Overall we were very disappointed, I have found friendlier staff with higher food / cleanliness standards at local greasy spoon diners. The prices, location and menu would suggest that you would be walking into a fine dining establishment. It does not take a very close look to notice that this location is poorly managed in front and rear of house, with staff that could really care less. My advice, just walk right on by.

Yuck!. Ate dinner at the Pepperwood last night and we were very disappointed! The patio was full, but as it was a little cool, we were happy to eat inside. Bad move. All the serving staff were focused on the patio, and we were there for 15 minutes before anyone actually came to greet us and get a drink order. Drinks a long time coming -how long does it take to open a beer and pour a glass of wine?? Food was also very slow, and not worth the wait. My husbands steak was cold and over cooked and my daughters pizza had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp as the plate and pizza were too hot to touch or eat. Don't go there. Slow service, nasty food. Thumbs down for sure.

Went for an early anniversary dinner. We were sat at a table in the bar area. Ignored by the bartender and we were the only table in the area. When he finally sauntered over, got attitude. Apparently, it was shift change and made it a point to let us know. New bartender took over our table, while the previous one knocked back ceasars in the bar right in front of us. Long story short, food sucks, service is beyond disgusting and obviously management couldn't care less! Go to Joe dogs instead for awesome fresh food and warm welcoming service!

Tried twice and disappointed twice. The last time I had a $50 certificate, the bill before tax was just under $51, but the tax was $6.60. I couldn't get the waiter to understand that the certificate should bring the bill down to $1 and at most the tax should be $0.13. Too bad his tip ended up going to the government.

Disappointing. Nice but crowded patio, slow service, so-so tasting food, and overpriced.

Decent food, unfortunately sub-par service. For the price, would not come here again.

Awesome patio. Try the Thai muscles

First time, LAST time!!!. BRUTAL SERVICE!! Unprofessional and untrained staff! Came to Burlington to from Toronto to meet some friends and had some time to spare. Walked by this place with my girflfriend on a Friday night and decided to get a few drinks and something to eat. The only good thing about this place is the location. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table (which is absolutely fine) sat at the bar and watched the bartenders and servers walk past us more then several times. Our table was ready before anyone asked us once for drinks. Once we ordered from the print out paper menus with oil stains on them we received our calamari in less then 2 minutes with no forks or starter plates. The calamari was colder then the attitudes of everyone working there (no seriously) and the server didn't once think to maybe give us any napkins, forks, or plates. Our pizzza came a lot quicker then usually and was too doughy. The place was fairly busy but not so insane that it could not be controlled. There was more then enough staff to handle every customer with care but they were too busy tallking amongst themselves to care. Maybe we were too dressed up for the place? Maybe we were too polite? We could of probably received better service if we had cheap dollar store sandals on like most of their supposed clientele. This is by no means an upscale place at all, but customers should be treated the same regardless . I beg the owners to go to Olivers in Oakville or Harbor 60 in Toronto and get a smack in the face of what a restaurant should be like

Good food, nice location. Try to make it here during many of the Burington Festivals. Great location, Great Patio - just watch for leaves in your food as the large tree in the middle of the patio will shed some depending on the season.
Ralf.mibus
Great location, mediocre food, terrible service.... Went there on the weekend with my wife to enjoy a pint while taking in the sights of the lake. Waited about 5 minutes to be seated while the manager was on the phone booking reservations. Glad to see that phone calls take priority over waiting customers. Affter being seated, waited another 15 minutes before being approached by any wait staff. After placing our order, waited another 30 minutes for our food (burger and a sandwich) to arrive and for drink refills. If the food had been fabulous, I might be able to overlook the bad service, but the food was mediocre at best so this will be our last trip to Pepperwood. The only upside to this whole outing was the Gelato shop next door, which was very good.

Went in with a group of people. Table was a little dirty when we sat down to our reservation. Food was ok. Calamari was nothing special a little overdone to be honest. The lemon aioli was over played and served with every dish that came to the table. I have the mussels. They were good but not the best I've had the server suggested the Maison. I should have gone with my original choice garlic and wine sauce. The service was a little slow took him forever to get over to us and waited too long for drinks and refills and the bill at the end of the meal. All in all not a terrible dinner but probably not somewhere I would return.
Cris
Have been there during summer, patio is great, calamari was good. However ordered a pizza recommended by the server $17 and they use a cheap pizza disk... disappointing... the waitress should not have recommended a pizza made with a pizza disk, my opinion.

Great for Groups!. This past Saturday 16 of us went to Pepperwoods for a birthday dinner. They were very accommodating to the big group. We had brought a cake in to be served and they were very helpful and went above and beyond.
The food was great-no one was dissapointed!

Pepperwood Bistro. Great micro brews. The cream ale is a stellar pint to go with. Grab a glass of that and order the poutine. Sweet potatoe fries, marlot reduction gravy and lots of curds. Decent live music to boot.
Bernard
Great food in all price ranges. Creative daily specials. Excellent wine list.

It's that time of year again - Taste of Burlington ! Happening Feb 16th - March 9th . A few weeks ago I was invited to the launch party - and similar to last years , I spent the evening with Christine & Dave noshing and exploring the entire night away. The night consisted of twenty six restaurants offering up samples as well as beer samples from Cameron's Brewing Co and coffee from Lakehouse Coffee House . I was invited by Tourism Burlington but tickets were available for purchase as well. It was definitely my kind of event - you pay one fee and eat all you want. I roll my eyes at events where they charge an arm and a leg to get in and then on top of that - you have to pay for food samples! Anyways, here is what we sampled that night - I'm happy to say I sampled more than half of the restaurants! I know - I'm a bad ass. Ivy Bar and Kitchen ( @IvyBarKichen ) : Wild and Forest Mushroom Truffle Scented Cappuccino Soup with Parmesan "foam" and Garlic Biscotti - this was my first sampl

The chairs on their patio are exactly like the ones I sat in during my trip to Paris a few years ago. They also have a very nice tree lined view of the Lake Ontario which adds to its charm!
