Review The Blue Poppy Restaurant - Brentwood Bay

Absolutely unbelievable curry. It was so flavourful. A really unexpected surprise to find such good food at a botanical garden. The atmosphere and counter service were excellent too. All around a great lunch.

Such a beautiful place - light filled, gorgeous moulding, stunning lights. You walk through a line to get some dishes, some are brought to table. Had a great understanding of celiac and their gluten free options was virtually the entire menu! Very impressed.

Great food and the place looks amazing but it sure is expensive. But where else are you going to go?

This is a cafeteria style restaurant. A good place to have a quick meal before you start your garden journey. There are several different choices on hot/cold drinks, salads, main dishes and desserts. The portions are decent, but the prices are apparently overpriced.

It was a restaurant with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

We ordered steak, pasta and cheesecake. Everything was very delicious and portions were big, especially steak which came with fries and broccolini. The restaurant was very clean and tidy and staff were friendly and professional. We enjoyed the dinner and will definitely come again when we visit the garden.

Surprisingly good for the cafeteria style self-serve option inside a park. Steak cooked to the desired medium rare, yummy chicken sandwich and great crispy french fries. Kids burger a bit dry.

Cafeteria style restaurant at the gardens. Nice place to get quick, decent food.

Food was pretty good. Not the best but not the worst. Price is on the higher side for the amount I received.

Quiet restaurant with flowers all around. They got my order wrong but the fries were very good.

Nice place to eat at Butchard Gardens. The set up is nice and flows so easily. Great service, nice people and good food.

We tried the Blue Poppy for the first time a couple days ago while visiting the holiday lights at the gardens. I was impressed. I had the salmon on a bed of spiced lentils, with cubes of squash, and topped with sour cream and fresh dill. The salmon was slightly overcooked for my taste, but otherwise the meal was delicious! We asked if there was anything available for my vegan husband. The staff went to check and then said the chef would be happy to make a vegan version for him. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The atmosphere is a bit like a nicely decorated cafeteria. We both enjoyed it and will go back.

After our good experience at the Blue Poppy in Butchart Gardens (Aug 2017), we just had to write a review to counter the many negative reviews here. We are not easily satisfied diners, so a favorable review does not come easy. We choose it as the alternative to the more expensive main Dining Room. This is not really a cafeteria. Yes, you stand in line to order and pick up some of the food like desserts. But the entrees are prepared fresh in the kitchen. We ordered and split a spinach salad and an Asian noodle dish, each full meals, and were very pleased. They were neither bland nor uninteresting, as some reviewers commented about the food in general. We sat next to a couple who ordered great-looking steaks, who were very happy with them. The service at the table was just right, and the man who took our order came by to ask how we liked the food.

Very good burgers. Friendly staff. Good deserts. Really enjoyed our time.

Nice interior and a great casual alternative to eating at the Dining Room since it gets booked up so quickly. Cafeteria style but the options offered weren't the typical cafeteria food. Lamb, beef, and salmon offered on the Saturday evening. Beef was very tender, lamb a little overdone. Loved the amount of veggies and squash the entrees came with. However the roasted potatoes weren't fresh.

Cafeteria style with white tablecloth prices - tourists will pay anything when they're hungry and have already paid a steep admission WAY out in the country
