Review Market Buffet And Grill - Barrie

The service was nice, the place was clean and well set up. Hard to judge the ambience during COVID tho. The food was not worth the price. The ribs were terrible, the salad was at par with poor presentation. The onion rings weren’t bad however, the onion could have more of a crunch to it but it did stay in the ring batter. The pulled pork tacos were quite good. What broke the camel’s back for me was the 6.99 Motts Clamato that was just handed to me in the bottle with a glass on the side. If I’m paying 7 bucks for a Motts, I would expect it to be served with some garnish. I would go back but I wouldn’t be too excited about it. 4 stars because maybe just my ribs were not their go-to item and with the right ambience it would be a nice place.

We finally decided to check this place out. We’ve lived in Barrie for almost 2 yrs now and after passing it on Mapleview on the daily, why not give it a taste. The portions are very generous and the flavours are good, but overly buttered for some items. I found the ribs a little too salty, pork is natural salty and if overcooked it turns out even saltier. I wish I checked it out before covid because it had various stations, 1 for ribs, for side and for desserts and all looked so inviting, but not. They were closed :( The sad thing is that I hope it survives so we can try it buffet style and perhaps give a better rating. The ribs didn’t seem that freshly cooked but I understand because there was hardly anyone in there.

Came in for their Friday night dinner buffet at 6:20 PM and was surprised to see on a night where the price was increased the restaurant was relatively dead. The food was all stale with film over most of the sauces, the steak counter seemed more interested in discussing weekend plans with each other than cooking and the desserts looked like they hadn’t been replaced since they opened. Upon visiting the grill counter 4 separate times I found that the medium and rare steaks had depleted and with none on the grill I finally asked for one to be cooked for me. The steak I received is pictured below and is one of the poorest cuts of meat I’ve ever seen. Even our waitress who saw me struggling to cut it asked if I wanted a steak knife which I was already using and suggested going and getting a new piece. When I told her there was none up there she kind of laughed and walked away. This place use to be one of my favourite buffet dinners but has seemed to slip on my most recent visit. Hoping this is an isolated event but with a cost of over 50$ for two people and most of the buffet items stale and subpar it’s unlikely we will be returning.

The food was simple but really well cooked with a variety to suit almost all tastes the only real criticism I had was that they are 'strawless' and it was only an issue for my 2 year old.

Cindy and myself have gone since it opened, we both enjoy lunch and dinners there. The quality of food is outstanding especially for an all you can eat. There hasnt been a time when we've been disappointed and the staff are super friendly and joke around with you. I have read some reviews that a plate has been dirty, I own a dishwasher and time to time a plate comes out with food on it, it happens. When you have as many people going through as this place has its hard to catch every plate when its busy. And when it is I expect to wait for a pop refill, I realize I am not the only person the server has. They run their asses off and work hard to make it a great experience and they always have for my wife and I. I will always recommend this place for 2 reasons, food is really good and the staff is fun and friendly.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary by going to see a movie and go out for dinner after. I have Celiac disease, and was really excited to find an awesome gluten free menu on the Market Buffet website, and decided to give it a try. After paying, my husband started loading up his plate with all the well laid-out, amazing looking food. I looked around to find food labeled 'gluten free', but because there were no labels, I asked for help. I was told that the one staff person who could help me would be out shortly. After waiting for about ten minutes, she came out with a printout of the menu. As we were going through foods I wanted, that amazing long menu got shorter and shorter, as most of the foods, and ALL of the meats had been prepared with a starter containing gluten. "But", I was told, "it is just a small amount of gluten, isn't that okay?" Actually, no, for a true Celiac sufferer, the tiniest amount, a drop, a crumb, will cause a terrible reaction and it is NEVER okay! At that point we should have left and asked for our money back, as I really did know the place wasn't safe for me. But we had pre-paid for our meal, and my husband had started eating, and I didn't want to make a scene, and I was hungry. I was offered to have ribs barbecued specifically for me - on the same grill the gluten containing food was cooked. Meaning, cross contamination was inevitable. I did have some gluten-ease capsules with me, which usually prevent me from getting sick, if it really was just a teeny, tiny amount. Anyway, to make a long story short, I got extremely sick, yelling in horrendous pain for seven hours straight the next day (I don't get instant reactions any more, after being gluten free for 12 years). I am still recovering, and given the awful reaction, it will likely take another week (two weeks total) to get over it. So, this is what I have to say: The atmosphere is amazing, the layout is great and fun, the food is varied and delicious. If you don't have intolerances, go for it and enjoy. BUT if you have Celiac disease and/or are extremely gluten intolerant, don't be fooled by that gluten free menu, as it is an illusion. There is NO real awareness of what gluten free means, and zero knowledge of cross contamination. Please take down that gluten free menu until you've actually done some serious research on Celiac disease, dedicate a part of your kitchen to gluten free cooking with SEPARATE pots, pans and utensils, and have a separate, labeled section of your buffet for only gluten free food. I won't be back.

Was there with my friends for a brunch and the food and serous was just terrible. To get a refill on our drinks took over 5-10minutes after we asked for one and it wasn't busy at all to justify the wait. The vegetables were over cooked and bland tasting, carrots being able to turn to mush just by lightly pressing them. The beef for the tacos was just stewing in it own grease making it a discussing mess once you tried to eat it... key word tried. Their pizza was so dry and unetible that my friend was able the drum out a beat with the bottom of his slice and a fork. Bacon bits from their salad could chip a tooth how hard they were. Between the four of us sent back all of our plates of food with only a couple bits taking from them and had to settle with the only thing that looked eatable there which was their ice cream bar. Too top it all off once our table voiced our concerneds we were just offered two free lunches which I don't know how four people are suppose to split up. All and all will not every be going again and would strongly advice going to a fast food astablishment for better quality food and serious.

We had been hearing about this place for quite some time. Finally had an opportunity to check it out. We arrived at 5pm, which was half hour after the dinner service started. Was disappointed a little in the washrooms as they were untidy. And we had some dish choices empty, surprising since they had some down time before the dinner rush to amend such things. We were not a fan of the gratuity added into the bill, upon arrival, before we had even been served or eaten. All that said; food was very yummy! A variety to choose from. And the desserts were just as great! Mark was our server, he was fast and friendly and worked very hard making people happy! All in all, we will be back, we enjoyed the experience.
