Review The Italian Bakery - Barrie

Erin Mc
I'm visiting from out of town and had a craving for something fresh and Italian. The service is fast and friendly. They have a nice little patio outside if you feel like enjoying the weather while munching on your goodies. They have a huge selection of ready to eat hot food as well as a ton of pastries. I haven't tried the cupcakes yet but the pizza's very good! The parking is a little annoying other then that a fabulous place

Sandra was very helpful with all my questions about pizza and spaghetti sauces.i did an amazing pizza on my stone and the kids loved to make it. The olives from Italy she recommended and my wife and even kids loved them. I should have got those butter tarts. Next time lol. Also bought the Italian coffee beans for my Moka pot can't wait till morning

Wow. $22 for 2 chicken sandwiches that barely have enough chicken between the two of them to make one sandwich. Wont be back here to get these. I'll go to california next time. And yes the pic with my hand is right next to the meat to show the actual scale. No, I dont have gigantic hands

We picked up lunch today which consisted of meatball sandwich on bun and a meat lasagna. Very disappointed in both. Requested extra sauce on both and girl barely gave us extra sauce, maybe a tablespoon. No ricotta cheese in lasagna just layers of lasagna, very little meat, no ricotta and very little sauce and very dry. The prices have gone up substantially but the quality of food has gone downhill compared to last year. I would not recommend this place until they decide to make quality food for their customers. Higher prices deserve better quality food.

Ordered a Lasagna for Fathers Day family lunch. Followed the directions to reheat written on receipt. Big disappointed. Very watery with little taste. Ended up throwing it out. Glad to have back up food. Would not order here again.

Wonderful Italian bakery. Great selection of food, treats, coffee and ice cream. Gave 4 stars only because it's a bit pricey. Would recommend and I will certainly visit again.

Prices are a bit high, veal sandwiches are delicious. Cannoli's are good. Some of the younger staff didn't do the best at making cappuccinos, rather watery however most of the establishment has authentic Italian items. Giving 3 out of 5 stars for lack of authenticity in coffee beverages and prices. Overall is still an Italian bakery that has classic dishes.

With new renovations, foot traffic has become a lot easier. Absolutely fantastic. Many wonderful and tasty items on the fresh hot table. Great selection of baked goods. You can find many great Italian items on the shelves for your kitchen. The deli sandwiches are a class and quite tasty.

Not as good as usual.... I have always gone to the italian bakery for cupcakes -yum! However this time I was wholly unsatisfied. The cake itself was a tad dry, but still tasty. I was shocked and dismayed to discover that the icing on all 4 types of cupcakes was exactly the same and, I suspect, pre-made - yuk! What happened to the wonderful buttercreams, the tangy cream cheese and the decadent whipped icings of the past? If the cupcakes continue to be iced with waxy, tasteless, empty calories I will no longer shop here.

I like going to the Italian Bakery. Food tastes good for sure BUT the food is always 'just warm'. Keep the food hotter somehow and your ratings will increase.

Not so good. Food display was good. The pasta was cold. The veggies and veal were just warm. Did they turn the heat off. I was here at 6:15pm. There was no "hot" in this hot table. When staff advised of the cold food they only offered a "sorry". I didn't want anything other than a quick couple minutes to heat it up. Nothing. Won't be eating here again. Bakery part still good though.

I call it "the Italian melting pot" Why?

Cafeteria classic Italian hot food, big portions, faire pricing and more baked goods than you can shake a stick at.
It's become a local lunch favorite to all; construction workers looking for BIG plates, white collars grabbing an espresso/pastry and families loading up on ingredients for DIY pizza nights including salami from the deli bar. It melts all kinds of customers into an Italian pot and grates fresh parmigiana reggiano on top, "extra sauce?"...
Yes please.

Barrie's best bakery! Big selection of just about everything. They have the best cupcakes I have ever eaten; moist, flavourful and beautifully decorated. Their $5 personal size pizzas are great and they make a delicious meatball sandwich. This place is always busy - a good sign!

Not a fan of the lasagna. I'll start by saying I've tried a few meals here, including the veal, the chicken parmesagn, the rice with sausage, and my friends have enjoyed the pizza and the gelato as well. Some hit and miss meals, but generally pretty good and a good value. So let this review be as much a compliment to the bakery as a criticism. But the lasagna was definitely not a good value. For $9 I got a block of pasta with what tastes like canned, watery tomato sauce, and if there was ever meat or cheese in that lasagna, it had long since evaporated before it hit the plate. No side dishes with it, though I did get a wee bun. I know that not everyone likes meat in their lasagna, or cheese, but $9 for essentially 25 cents worth of pasta in about 10 cents worth of mediocre sauce is not what I call good value. Next time I would take it back and get something else, but we went at a busy time, and that was not a convenient option. Would I eat here again? Yes, I would and I will. Would I recommend it to my friends? Yes, with some caviats. Would I order the lasagna again? Only if I had $9 in my pocket that I desperately wanted to get rid of without the risk of ingesting any nutrition or flavour.

Amazing!. I have been to this place a few time now....once by accident, and more recently for lunch. The first time I purchased half a dozen cupcakes for the office; they were moist, flavorful and delicious. Everyone raved about them! More recently I enjoyed the veal sandwich which came with mushrooms and roasted red and green peppers on a fresh Italian bun. It was easily the best Italian sandwich I have had in a while. I will be back!
