Review Shirley's Bayside Grille - Barrie

Stephen Arnold
We came to Shirley's Bayside Grill because of the recommendation from Matthew of Four Points Sheraton. It was a good recommendation. While Shirley's has lots of seating, it has an intimate feel because of the tables and walls locations as well as the lighting and decoration. The menu had lots of interesting dishes to select. I had the seafood dish and my wife enjoyed the lamb. The service was very professional although an occasional smile would have helped. The website described music at 6:30 pm. Unfortunately, there was none during our visit at this time.

Great steak. Good service. The place was very busy. The calimari was exceptionally poor. The bruschetta was exceptionally awesome! The venue is loud as the high ceilings have little to no sound absorption material. So not a great place to take people who don't have great hearing. (Our parents 80+ years old for example). Very loud HVAC system.

Shirley’s never disappoints when I return to Barrie and make a booking to catch up with old friends. I have made 2 large bookings between Christmas and New Years and was easily accommodated. The food and drinks were great as always and we had a variety of main options. I always have the Caesar Salad or Vegetarian Pizza which are enjoyable and the portion sizes are very large. The best thing about Shirley’s is the customer service. My family has been going to there for years and the staff are always attentive, knowledgeable and professional. Can’t wait until our next catch up !

I was at Shirley’s for a retirement dinner tonight. The staff were fantastic and very attentive to us the entire 3 hours we were there. The wait wasn’t too bad for food, about 40 minutes (we were a large group). The meal I had was amazing! The best steak & potatoes I’ve had in a long time. Several of my co workers agreed that we should all go back sometime.

Incredible food at reasonable prices. A lovely location across from Kempenfelt Bay. Staff are super friendly and pleasant with a great knowledge of the ingredients used in the food prep and serving sizes. Portions were an enjoyable size, not hungry but also not uncomfortable. Shirley’s has been here for a number of years but their menu has always reflected the latest trends while maintaining the foods that people enjoy having over the years. Treat yourself to an enjoyable eating experience.

My husband, myself and a couple of friends were there Saturday November 30 to celebrate our upcoming anniversary. Service was great, food delicious. Only down side, a large table of extremely noisy and rowdy people. Our waitress apologized several times for their behavior. It did somewhat spoil an otherwise lovely evening. Have some consideration people! Not everyone wants to hear you!

So beautifully decorated. Very comfortable and unique. Though it seems to serve an older crowd the food is to die for and the service impeccable. The Yorkshire Stuffed pudding was absolutely scrumptious and delectable. What’s more is the price won’t break your nut either. Remember, it doesn’t always have to be pretty it just has to be GREAT. (But here it’s definitely pretty too)

A Barrie favorite! Live music on Friday nights. Relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced, great food with generous portions and the service is just fantastic! You can really tell the staff here enjoys their jobs-it is definitely reflected in the way they treat their customers! Jennifer was our waitress last visit and if a 5 star rating is excellent I would give her a 10! Shirley's is a definitely must try!!!

Today was my first time at Shirley's. we took a dear friend there for her 75th birthday lunch, I was very impressed with the whole experience, great food, great decor and good service, I will definitely be returning.
P.S. Please consider selling your poppy salad dressing !
Cheers !!!
Ana Morris

Last night I attended Shirley's with two lady friends. We ordered the coconut shrimp, escargot and a salad for appetizers and the apricot chicken and veal Parmesan for entrees. Our server was a high school teacher named Jennifer Sherrard that was working at Shirley's during her summer break from Banting High school. Jennifer was as proficient a server as was she beautiful. I challenged her with every witticism I could offer up but she remained unfazed and maintained in good humor while perpetuating professionalism.
I completely fell in love with the whole dining experience. Oh ya - the food was excellent too.
Warren Lavender
warrenlavender714@yahoo.ca

Went to Shirleys with my GF a couple of weeks ago and had a dismal evening. After doing a review on Trip Advisor I then received insulting emails from our server. While she never addressed my concerns about microwaved food (yes rubbery food) she was sure to blame me for her not getting tips from another table. Please note that I tipped 10% which was more than generous given her poor service and sub par food. At prices like these there are far better choices in Barrie.

Great place for lunch and dinner. Love the apricot chicken. Some day I'll save room for the desserts.

HORRIBLE Customer Service. Don't bother asking for any additions or changes to your meal - regardless of whether you have been eating here for years or not, your only response will be "Nope, can't help you." Don't bother wasting your time or money for the overpriced food and undeserved attitude.

On arrival to our table we found the tablecloth very soiled, obviously from the first seating.
Service was slow due to a very large party though i never expect to feel like i should be happy to get any service at all and that is how we felt.
Dinner was disappointing, my salad was not tossed as all the vinegrette was puddled at the bottom which explains why the spinach was dry. My husband had the veal which was as expected but the raosted potatoes were so dry he could not eat them.
I wish i would have voiced my disappointment at the end of dinner but was not asked and then the credit card machine was left at the table for " self serve" and we didnt see anyone until leaving the restaurant.
We will not be going back!

Consistently great!. We come here often - usually for special occasions, date nights, or because we want a lakeside patio dinner. We always get the same treatment - a professional waitress who can actually recommend dinner items and wine pairings and is attentive without being in our faces.

We LOVE the maple and pear pickerel dinner! SO delicious! Large portions that are truly enjoyable. The side potatoes and grilled veggies are an excellent compliment to the crispy fish with a sweet cream sauce.

On weekends there is usually a prime rib option. Large portions, never dry.

We usually start with calamari which comes with two sauces. It is a huge portion itself and because of this, we never have room for dessert! It's really too bad because their desserts look amazing. WE have had the coconut shrimp too. Very good.

My only complaints are that it can be kind of noisy which isn't great for an intimate dinner. And (this is not the restaurants fault) when sitting on the patio, it's difficult to enjoy the lake views and ambiance with suped-up motorcycles driving the strip all the time.

Shirley's is our favourite restaurant in Barrie and we've been to them all!

Excellent food - a noisy and fun Bistro atmosphere. One of the best in Barrie!

Horrible Service. I attended this establishment recently and had horrible service - at first I chalked it up to the server having a bad day, but the couple seated beside us actually got up and left. When my dining partner requested milk for her coffee, the server rolled her eyes. The food was alright, nothing special. I wouldn't run back, and the service was so bad the owners have to know and appear to have done nothing about it.

This is one of barrios Beat restaurant --- it's sheek , elegant , great location looking on to our beautiful lake . Family owned. The service Is good - it can get quite busy on a Saturday evening . But the food , the Food is what Makes This place above and beyond . I'm always thrilled with my dish as Is my boyfriend , portions are Good , menu is not that big , bur more than enough options for everyone to find something ! Seafood pasta - calamari - and I Believe it Was Lamb .... Delicious . Please try ,... You will seen.

Very good food had a steak which was cooked alittle more than asked for but still tasted great. Wife had fish which she said was excellent.
