Great portion sizes for the price, if you are wanting to try something different and not the same old fried whatever from Dairy Queen or the same orange chicken from the Chinese places, this is your spot. Out of the ordinary Indian style cuisine with lots of flair! Highly recommended!

I am from San Diego and we have no Sri Lankan restaurant. I have always craved for Kothu Poratta atlast my dream came true. We went to Banff for vacation and I never expected to hit in to this gem of a place. You might miss this place, its in the basement food court of the Cascade mall. Before I talk about food, I need to talk about staff. The staff here, especially Nalanka and Dulip were gem of person and also super chef. I felt so comfortable that I could even request the items I want to have next day even OFF the menu. All, I wish they opened a franchise in San Diego. This place is strictly for those street food junkies. They serve local food varieties made right in front of you. We pretty much tried all the food from their menu over the 4 times we visited. Highlight is the Pork Kotthu porota, and their Meat Roti. The meat here is properly cooked and tender to the taste and full of flavors. The food is fresh, wholesome and tasty and typical Sri Lankan fare. We had a chickpeas curry, mushroom curry and eggplant curry, all were there very tasty. They are very generous with the Quantity. Both my wife and kid also enjoyed and their first time Sri Lankan cuisine. You can't ever visit Sri Lanka and leave without eating Kottu roti (also spelled Koththu or Kotthu). Roti again, but chopped this time, as this is the meaning of the word kottu in Sinhala and Kotthu in tamil Its very similar to South Indian food. But involves lot of meat and coconut. They also have Pittu which is same as Puttu from Kerala. I am waiting to go there again and have my favorite food.

Taste of Sri Lanka was a very pleasant surprise as we were looking for a place for a late lunch in Banff. You could call it a moment of Serendipity! The food is very tasty and as a Sri Lankan I can vouch for its authenticity. Definitely worth a try for everyone! Cheers!

The food isn't high end, but it definitely does pretty well for cheap eats in a touristy city. Nestled in the food court of a lower level in a mall, you'd have to pass by it to know it's there, but the portions are hearty and the food is quite tasty - you'll enjoy the meal thoroughly and have some to bring back. 5/5

Not tasty at all. The only non-vegan option that's tasty is the pork curry. Rice is really bad I saw him just microwave it before serving. Quantity is low too. Not worth at all.

Appalling lack of basic civility and customer service. First, they have samosas in the menu, these things take time to cook (they are not fast food)...then you tell the customer it will be ready in 5mins, which actually takes 25mins (i counted)...then instead of cancelling the order and paying me back that part of the order he is arguing with a customer that he did not tell me 5mins. So he basically told me I was lying, covering himself up. In a low ,margin business he must count on enough fools to keep his business running, can i give it a minus rating. I wish i could. Most of all, it is not Sri Lankan food......it is Indian food....please save your money and go spend it on Edo next door......

Tried chicken kottu, and it was a bad bad experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. This is not sri lankan food at all, there is nothing sri lankan about this place. Waste of money and time. They shouldn't have call this place "Taste of Sri Lanka" when they have no idea what is srilankan food taste like. 😞

We had come to Banff. And on our way back home we were hungry so thought of trying this place. It was such a disappointment. Ordered kothu roti n it was pathetic. Couldn't eat more than two spoons. Waste of money. The portions were too large but wasn't worth the taste

We often come here
Today however, no one has been in the kitchen for the last half hour or more ...
The food is sitting untouched and looks pretty sad
Hope this is not regular thing because we really enjoy the food.

This has been one of my favorites for years and I love the food. However, after driving quite a distance to eat here , they were already closing up at 8:45 pm on a Wednesday!! We were so disappointed. The guy working there just looked at us and ignored us. He made no effort to apologize or explain.

Update January 14th 2017: Now I have to say it USED to be great. So sad. It seems to be under new management and today was probably the last time I ate there. The roti was pre-cooked and ended up having the texture and taste of cardboard. The curries almost taste the same but the eggplant was partially raw (cut too big and not cooked enough). Farewell Taste of Sri Lanka. It was good to know you :(

Original review:
What a wonderful hidden gem in the Cascade Plaza Food Court! We go there pretty much every time we stay in Banff, perfect for a late breakfast or lunch. I love the roti. I usually get the eggplant curry and chickpeas/ veggie curry together in it and it is amazing. My husband loves their breakfast roti with scrambled egg. The portions are quite large so it is great to share.

Had my whole family eat there and they were happy to make my son a plain roti and were so kind and helpful. Great food great service...the Goonewardene family

Was walking around after going to the pharmacy ... their chicken skewer looked pretty good. Had one. Both of us really liked it. Had an asian street food feel but felt safer.
