2017-05-26 Dinner: Ate here again and still Fantastic!!!
2017-03-18 Dinner: FANTASTIC! Everything was so fresh. I love the walk in and start eating sushi off the train setup. Keeping that in mind, this isn't really a place to go if you want to sit for a couple hours and enjoy food and drinks with family or friends while conversing across a table. But to get your Sushi Fix... This is the place! If it ain't on the train, ask and they will make. A bit pricey, but it is Banff. Can't wait to go back in a months time and eat here again Wooohoooo... or should I say Choooo Choooo!! :)
We really enjoyed this friendly restaurant. Delicious food and good service. It was nice to order and share your meal. The portions are small so order lots!
This place is great especially if you're just looking for something quick, the place is very tiny and usually has a wait during peak hours. Theres a train with with that goes around and you can just pick any food you like on the train, or if you don't see what you like you can just order it from the server. I would recommend trying the Deep fried shrimp roll and the chicken kaarage.
Every time I'm in Banff I'm here, love it fresh and tasty . Great service. Train goes around and can request items to be made. I suggest the spicy prawn salad roll my favourite. Great prices. MUST GO !!
Instant food. Something not on the train that you want? Just ask and they'll make it. Only downside is they don't make sake bombs but the Kirin was a good beer. Old skinny p had his eyes closed chewing sushi, was in food heaven. But then he took a turn for the worse as his hangover did not like him trying to put something besides booze in his body. He ended up leaving and passing out for a few hours. And then Hightower asked "where do you pay?" How about in the corner where the cash register is? Doy!
Best place to eat sushi until you're full!
The only thing I have to complain about is that the service isn't fast enough to refil my water cup...maybe they should give bigger cups.
Awesome. I know you don't go to a sushi place for chicken but seriously- try the chicken.
Good Sushi. Wanted to try a new sushi restaurant in Banff so we picked this one based on the reviews. This place only seats 18 people so if you come here at a busy time you'll have to wait. The food was good and the chefs know what they are doing (actually from Japan). The menu is limited and if it's not on the train you ask the waiter for it and the chef will make it right away for you. We found this place to be very enjoyable.
Cheap, fun eats. Tiny little restaurant with an oval bar around a sushi chef's station and a little train (pulled by a Canadian Pacific engine! Nice touch.) circling the bar with the current offerings. When we arrived it was busy and lots of fresh rolls and items were going on to the train, so we enjoyed some well-prepared salmon/avocado, spicy tuna, yam/avocado, red tuna, and fried shrimp rolls. We also ordered tuna sashimi from the chef and it was fresh and well-cut. Both the chef and the server were attentive even though it was busy, and prices were low.

Good Sushi - Just make sure it's Fresh!. Sushi House is an interesting, and simple concept popular in Japan, and as also known as “Kaiten Sushi” (Conveyor Belt Sushi). Prices of sushi, rolls, and entrees are by the color of the plate (which the waitress adds up later). You have the option to pick from the sushi train belt or order from the waitress or sushi chef in the middle. Service is a hit or miss; you don’t get insulted or have a rude waiter, but a drink can run dry and you may have to raise your voice to get an order in (establishment is usually really loud and people are happily laughing, etc.) Sushi House is a very small establishment, and cannot fit too many people (only by the number of seats available) and you may be turned away if you try to bring strollers or bulkier items in. Other than that, it is a family friendly restaurant, and can be a unique experience since you don’t see too many of these type of restaurants about. The food is surprisingly good quality, and is reminiscent of the Okinawan sushi I grew up on. The ONLY THING I RECOMMEND though is to get your sushi FRESH (either by ordering it through the sushi chef or picking up a plate from the sushi train that they JUST put on). The sushi pieces can be mouth-watering in doing so, and while the selection is limited, the rolls are decent and can be the more affordable bargains in Sushi House. Prices for the plates range from $3.25 – 6, and can add up VERY quickly, so be mindful of this. So overall, be prepared to be a little claustrophobic, but if you are good with this, it can be a different and interesting experience!
Great Sushi joint in the heart of Banff. Cute CP Rail model train that brings all the sushi around. The system works on the standard colored plate system. Friendly staff, great service, and tasty sushi!
Not overly impressed. Sushi trains can be a great idea and i think thats what draws a lot of people to this place.
We stopped in for some late lunch and the first think i grabbed off were some spring rolls which were cold, so learning from that mistake we grabbed a few things that the chef was making fresh but nothing was overly great.
The thing i disliked was we would of been in there for at least 30 mins and when we arrived there was stuff going around the train which was still going around when we left, who knows how long stuff stays out for,
Awesome concept!!! Was a lot of fun to choose your plate from the train. Not a very strong fish smell for those who don't like seafood (myself). Though Steve does, which is why we went there. I was happily surprised by the amount of vegetarian/non seafood options. Great selection of sushi and wonderful display as they make it right in front of you!
Great sushi, very fresh, decent prices, love the train... Definitely will come here again.
Great little train to deliver the portions. All the items are made in front of you. The food is very good and fresh. Good service.
Good sushi. Fast service. The train is a cool little twist.
Awesome!. This place is so small you could miss it! But it's worth looking for. We loved that you can start eating right away, it's fast and everything is super fresh - made right before your eyes. Delicious and good selection of different things. And the train is so fun!
I went on a sunday night for dinner, after an unpleasant lunch of japanese at another restraurant in Banff, i was hoping for redemption and Sushi house did in fact give me it. I had gyoza, tuna nigiri, tuna tartar, fried octopus, sashimi of macheral, yellow fin, red tuna and snapper, all served on a sweet sushi train, my total bill including a beer was $47 & i was filled to the brim. The fish was so fresh! I have no compaints, limited seating so you may have to wait for a seat, but it is worth it.
Absolutely delicious!. Its a unique small resto at banff. The staffs are friendly they make the sushi fast and the sushi there was really good!!! i love spicy food so i got the spicy tuna sushi and it was just on the right spice that im looking for!. Plus its cheap it comes on small serving but its worth the price. I recommend to everyone to go here ! :)
Fun delicious experience! Second visit and just as good as the first!
Awesome , friendly service ! Great variety of sushi on the train and eager to make whatever roll we wanted ! My BF tried sushi for the first time and Loved the BBQ EEL
Cat the cook. Good fresh and friendly service. The food came fast to our table. Great atmosphere. I will sure go back anytime soon!!! Good job to all the staff!!!!
Quaint & tasty. When in banff- this is my haven. The sushi is decent, maybe not the best but it's cheap and enjoyable! I also like the fried chicken surprisingly haha. yum yum...small bud good.
The best sushi I have ever had. I come here everytime I'm in banff you have to go here, I love that u can grab wat u want and there is no wait, although this tends to have me over earring, but it's just so darn good!!!!
I usually try to eat here whenever I visit Banff. Part of the fun is picking a plate off the train (ah... Memories of conveyor belt sushi in Japan). If you don't see something you want on the train, you can ask the chefs to make it for you. Prices are set by colour-coded plates, so the cost depends on what you choose to eat. My lunch (8 plates + tea) was $38 incl tax and tip
Love the sushi house, or "sushi train" as the local s say. Delicious and cheap sushi made right in front of you then placed on a circling model train! The chef will even take requests.
...chef made it very quickly, and we admired watching his skill.
I personally think the options are greater in the evening (and a little fresher as well). We sampled a lot of dishes, and we left with a really full tummy.
Located just off the main drag that is known as Banff Avenue (The Vegas Strip of Banff), Sushi House Banff is a little fast food style Japanese restaurant. Patrons sit around a bar where the sushi chefs ( itamae ) prepare various types of sushi and hot food items. These are then placed on a moving train that travel around said bar to be snagged up by hungry diners. Not exactly my style (bad experiences) but I figured I'd give it a try. You can also order specific items that the chef is not making at the moment. Prices are based on the colour of the plate. Right off the bat, I grabbed a plate of tuna sushi. I was hungry. Bad idea. The dish came with a lid. This should have been my first hint to stay away. The tuna was a little crusty on the edges. : S Not a
Great convenient sushi place for lunch, dinner, snack, solo or in group! I felt it’s quite authentic in the sense of kaiten sushi (that goes around) we get in Japan! (The ones that go around r not meant to be super high first class, but tasty, easy, familiar). Really enjoyed it. Good variety of sushi. Friendly staff, fresh food. ☺️

First time eating here. The sushi train was really entertaining. I had 3 servings of unagi and a take out. It is nice to see thr sushi roll being prepared fresh and infront of me.
They also have a menu just incase you choose a different dish. Social distancing was followed. I just find it a bit expensive for the small servings. Overall it was quite the experience.

It's true that sushi in this place is mediocre for its price but I believe it's the experience that you're paying for. They have a train sushi here that goes around a table of around 25 chairs. I've seen one similar to this in Japan but in this place they made it Canadian with a Canadian train. Too bad I can't post my video here. Staff are very nice and friendly, and you pay by the color of the plate (pink is about $7). We celebrated our anniversary here and we paid around 50$ and we were full. We'll definitely recommend this place.
Enjoyed the sushi and service here but I got there at 7pm and it closes at 8pm just as the good times begin in Banff. I suppose they have to have a life too.
The toy train gimmick is a lot of fun especially when someone puts their cell phone on it with the video camera recording as it passes by surprised patrons munching on sashimi.
I recommend trying the sake at room temperature as well. I’d go again.
Great quality (as confirmed by my wife who’s from Japan who said it was authentic) at really good prices for Banff. All food is brought around by a Canadian train around a train track. Quick and fun.
One the the best, perhaps the best value for wonderful quality of Japanese sushi. I feel it is an innovative way to showcase the line sushi restaurant. The food was so delicious and fresh, highly recommend the tempura and BBQ Eel.
Simple but fresh. Not an elaborate fish menu but what they serve is of good quality which I will take any day . All food comes around on a miniature railroad platform with color coded plates according price and menu item. At meal’s end plates are tallied up. For those in search of specific tastes not on the « train » , the sushi chef is a foot away to tend to your desires. A few items from hot kitchen as well . Definitely worth a try and the bonus is that kids will love it .
What a fun experience at this restaurant with their sushi train. Quite a number of choices however we don't know what they are. That's the fun part of discovering each item! Prices were per the colours of the plates which were on the wall so you know how much each costs. The place was small and cozy. People come and go pretty quickly so you'll have space in a short time. Noone lingered from the 2 times we went. Love it here! Will be back when in town.
