Decent food at a reasonable price for Banff.
Some of the best food in downtown Banff for the price class, which of course is more pricey than a non-tourist area. Tasty bison burgers, crab dip, decently fresh vegetables, good portion sizes. Had a few issues with a snarky server, but manager Brad graciously and effectively made everything right. Thanks for the good food!
We were able to get a seat here when all other places we wanted to go to were booked out. The overall presentation and ambience is nice, but we were sat beside a window in the downstairs section that was not properly sealed and it was -27 outside. The seating is comfortable and the service attentive. Wine list is ok. The food is ok. But ultimately, nothing special - just ok.
Beautiful restaurant in the mountains! The wood decor is so cozy and warm. And the food is omg! Been there twice, on my first visit we had the elk burger, it was so juicy and delicioussss! And salmon, also very good. The second time I was craving the elk burger but it wasn’t the season for it, we had steak and desserts, and of course they were great!
Here for lunch, great meal. We had a lovely Cobb and a fantastic quiche. Our Waitress from Western Australia was a real find. Will be back for dinner! Well done

Amazing! They made our anniversary extra special. Great food and atmosphere! And to top it off, best service we have had in a while. I will be back.
Went for dinner as a party of 4. We had the duck, bison, bass and stuffed chicken main. All were really flavorful and delicious. For dessert we had the cheesecake, crumble and the trio of creme brulees. Enjoyed all of them. The waitress was also really helpful and we had great service.
My friend and I came here for dinner this past weekend and enjoyed the food thoroughly. We ordered the Calamari and French Onion Soup to start. The calamari was tasty and fresh however the portion was very small considering it was $15. There were only 8 pieces of calamari on the plate! The french onion soup was fantastic; flavorful and thick, not runny like some french onions soups are.
For our entrees we ordered the Surf & Turf and AAA Alberta Beef Tenderloin. Our steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked, juicy and delicious!!! My lobster tail was fresh and sweet and I dipped in butter....so good!!!! Nom nom lobster tail! For dessert we ordered the Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake. It was pretty good but I think there were better options on the menu we could have ordered, like the cheesecake or hot chocolate soufflé. Would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner.
Pretty average place. The decor is beautiful but the food is nothing too special. Eggs Benedict was good, cooked nicely and the capers were a great touch.
Nice little stop on a main Street in Banff. Had the wild game burger and caesar salad, and it was delicious! I wouldn't recommend the wild game burger for those that don't necessarily like blue cheese because the taste is quite strong, but it was still very good! They also had a few local beers on tap which was a nice touch. I would come again if in the area.

The menu offers up so many different delicacies and the wine list is rather impressive with wines from across the world. We had an order of champagne to celebrate and we ordered one from Italy. Impressive menu with prices that are on par with most fine dining establishments.
Nice rustic cabin style motif, we were situated in a back area with a large moose's head towering over our table. Ordered the wild game burger with a side soup of the day (salmon chowder) and a share starter of maple jalepeno duck wings. Overall really good meal, burger was well cooked and juicy (nothing worse than dry over cooked venison etc), the soup was decent enough. The real highlight was the duck wings. They were incredible. Please, do yourself a favour and order them. Service was fairly good, pricing was a little steep, but what you would expect from a tourist area. Overall,very good experience and will be back next time I'm in banff.
My friends and I went for dinner here during that food festival. It was such a delight. Food was amazing, cooked proper. If you are looking for a fancier place, this is a great option. Atmosphere is really nice as well.

Amazing decor and great service. The appy was so good. We tried the baked goat cheese. Highly recommend it! I had the gnocchi for my meal and my boyfriend tried the baked chicken. Both very good. The cocktails were above average. I had the elderflower cocktail. It was amazing and very refreshing.
Duck was a little bland in flavour, but the creme brûlée saved half a point I would say. Venue is great, however I think it is slightly overpriced.
Had dinner here the other night. For appetizers we ordered some oysters and the beef carpaccio. Both were tasty, but presentation was lacking. I ordered the beef tenderloin for my main- it looked nice on the plate and was cooked to perfection. My only gripe was the service not being great for a higher end restaurant, but better than some of the other places I've been to in Banff.
I've been visiting Banff for as long as I've been alive and this was my first and possibly my only visit to The Maple Leaf. Banff has better meal options that I look forward to when I visit.

We started with an order of Duck Confit Wings and a Crab Cake to start. The duck confit wings were very good and very sticky sweet. The wings are crisped very nicely and the glaze they use was dripping heavily. It comes with a side of ranch, but there is no need as there is enough flavor in the meat and the sauce. It comes with about 10 nice wings to an order.
The crab cake appetizer was OK. I didn't find much crab meat chunks as it were more crab meat shreds. An order of the crab cake only comes with one giant crab cake and slaw. It was a mediocre app that I probably would avoid on the next go around.
I ordered the 18oz Cowboy Steak as my entrée while the fiancé opted with the Game Stroganoff. The steak was fantastic! It comes with a side of jus and sprinkled with fried onions. There is a bowl of mushrooms and peppers in the event you want to have them on your steak, but I found it unnecessary. The steak was tender for medium rare and was so damn juicy. The meat was seasoned beautifully and I didn't need the jus because the flavor was enough. It's a large steak that comes bone-in so don't expect to need anything else.
The Game Stroganoff was a more complex dish of pappardelle noodles served with wild mushrooms, cream sauce, and a nice helping of elk and bison chunks. The noodles were fresh, as were the mushrooms. The dish itself is heavy as there is a bit more butter than expected, but tastes good. The bison and elk chunks of meat were very good, but a tad dry.
Service was stellar and were attentive. They answered all our questions and greeted us with specials as well. Nothing worse than not knowing about a special after ordering. The place is very nice and worth the price if coming for a special occasion. Definitely will make my way back if I ever find myself back in the Banff region.
Our favorite lace on Banff for sure. Great atmosphere, service and friendly staff. The Maple Leaf signature dish, B,C.Samon, was perfectly cooked and accompanied by delicious potatoes, fresh vegetables and a maple sauce, the Alberta been was perfectly cooked with a delicious potato the same as the above dish. Highly recommended
Never thought I would say this, but you have to try their Brie Pear Pizza. (only available on the lunch menu) The flavours go so well together and the texture is just right. The candied walnut adds the right amount of crunch to it as well.

It's our family's favourite restaurant. We bring all of our out of town guests here for fantastic Cowboy Steak, Bison and Salmon.
Service is spectacular, atmosphere is wonderful.

Went here for my birthday with my fiancé, food and service was amazing! Unfortunately we were seated at a table that was far from intimate and in the middle of the hallway. But everything else was delightful! They even bought us desert for my birthday.
Excellent Seafood. We had the two tiers of the possible three tiered seafood. The crab was outstanding, the smoked salmon was delicious, the mussels and squid were served in a seasoned broth - "out of the park" as Guy Fieri would say. Nice job!!
Really liked it!. Really enjoyed the entrees we ordered, the Duck and Tenderloin. Very tender, perfectly cooked. Wine list is very big and somewhat reasonable price wise. The Elk Meatball appy was a little tough, understandable as it is wild game. Very tasty! Worth the $180 tab...we'll be back.
Great Canadian Comfort Food!. We stopped here for late breakfast/lunch and really only because it was super cold out and it was the closest place to pop in and warm up. Sure glad we did! The service was friendly and attentive. The menu had a great breakfast/lunch selection. I had the tuna melt and my husband had the breakfast poutine. Both were excellent and made with great quality ingredients. Our only regret is that we never made it back here for dinner during our trip. A great option for Canadians and visitors to Canada alike.
A friend recommended this place and I was not disappointed ! Food was excellent as well as the wine selection. Was hard to choose with so much selection. Server was great. Will be back!

The Amazing Surprise!. I have been to the Maple Leaf twice in the past and both times were good. So I wanted to have my birthday party with my friends at the Maple Leaf on a Friday, but I couldn't because they had a special event at the restaurant, so I ended up having it somewhere else. The next day when we were looking for a spot for lunch, I immediately thought of the Maple Leaf. When we arrived, the hostess Sarah told us they couldn't accommodate us (group of 7) and actually told us to try somewhere else, despite us telling her that, I wanted to come here for my birthday but we couldn't, and would be willing to split the group into two tables. Just when I was about to get disappointed for the second time, this waiter, Tyler, volunteered to look after us at a big table in their private room. It wasn't his section but he went out of his way to take us in, because he overheard the birthday story. After we sat down, he even brought me a shot for my birthday, on the house! Food was amazing as the previous two times. Their cheesecakes, doesn't matter what the flavour it is (they change it from time to time), are to die for.
Thank you Tyler M for an amazing experience. Perhaps the hostess could use some more hospitality training. I would hate to see customers turned away from a good restaurant, not because it is jam-packed with no free tables.
Great food!. Went here for breakfast on the weekend! The food was great and we were all super happy with our meals! The waitress wasn't overly friendly but was attentive. Will come again. Nice to go out for breakfast somewhere that does the food right!

The best steak i have ever had in a resturant!!!!!!!, i ate at saltlik the night be for and had there t-bone, and there was no comparision!!!!, my girlfriend had the bison prime rib and was also blown away!!, great service and great location as well.can wait to go back and try more items on menu!!
Love!. My boyfriend and I went here after our hike in the mountains. The atmosphere is really nice and we didn't feel under dressed in our jeans, as it was comfortable and rustic. Our server was polite, offered suggestions, and was sociable (no eat and get out attitude here). I loved our server, he really seemed to enjoy serving us. The food was awesome and didn't take overly long to get to us. Overall this place really made up for the terrible time we had at a different restaurant in Canmore (see my other review of The Wood).
I will definitely recommend this place, and I will be visiting again on my next trip to Banff.

Really great food!. Tired of walking around, and unsure of where to eat, hubby and I stumbled into this restaurant. They were busy, but also able to accommodate us which was good, as restaurants in Banff are busy without reservations!!
We had a friendly and chatty server. Drinks and menus were brought over right away, and we quickly placed our orders after a few inquiries. Hubby and I started with the wild game board and an order of the seared scallops to start. The wild game platter had an assortment of game meat and cheeses. I don't quite remember what was in it, but something along bison, elk and buffalo. We really liked the assortment and they tasted pretty good! The seared scallop was also delightful - there was a piece of... hmmm... bacon? Pork belly? on top of each scallop and the sauce that accompanied it was so tasty I kept smearing my dinner bread in it!
Our entrees came shortly after - hubby got the arctic char. It was crispy with herb flavors! I had the wild B.C. salmon - poached in maple syrup or something rather. The chef also recommends it cooked medium rare, which is how I had it, and it was sweet tasting! Our two sides were veggies and mashed potato, and they were done well as well! We really liked everything we ordered. Pricing is reasonable, and service was pretty good. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Banff again!
Fantastic food. The meatball and the calamari appetizers were pretty good but the Bison Tenderloin was incredible!!
Wow. I had thought The BIson was the best restaurant in Banff. Well maybe not. Apparently the same owners own both restaurants.
The charcuterie board was delicious. My New York Prime was tasty and so was the tempura fried asparagus. The best thing was the dessert, the Hot Chocolate Souffle. It is piping hot right out of the oven. There is a reason that a scoop of ice cream is served on the side. My new favorite restaurant in Banff.
Delicious!. Ate here last September with my mother and we both had lovely meals. The service was attentive, which makes you happier about the almost compulsory tipping that is expected in Canada.
Highly recommend having a meal at The Maples Leaf if you're lucky enough to get yourself to Banff.
Great food!. I went to Maple Leaf on wed evening after I read about it sometime ago on urbanspoon. When I first walked in, the ambiance was great, and ahhhhh.. the comfy chairs. Anyways, I ordered the chicken chipotle burger(can't remember the exact name but something like that) and my friends ordered two other burgers and a pasta. and wow! my burger was juicy and full of flavor. The soup(curry soup with peas) that came with it was also full of flavor; not too spicy, not too bland, just right. I tried my friend's yam fries and they were great too; it was very crispy on the outside yet very moist inside. Overall, It was a great experience for all of us and I'd be back again for sure.
I walked into The Maple Leaf without reading any reviews or checking out the menu so I thought this place was going to be something like Earl's. Turns out the food is pretty high end.
I ordered the Prime New York medium rare and that was exactly how it came out of the kitchen. The presentation has everything stacked on top of each other so it might not look like enough food when the dish comes out. Once you dig in though you'll also find a bed of garlic mashed, asparagus and a couple other grilled veggies.
The onion ring on top was really light, not greasy at all. It would've been awesome if I could've ordered a basket of them.
Seats on the 2nd floor have really good views of the mountains. The servers are attentive and the atmosphere is pretty cool. A nice place to come to if you're looking to treat yourself.

Great. We ended up in Banff after our other plans fell through and wanted to eat somewhere nice. Made a reservation and arrived a bit early. We were directed upstairs to our seats which were near the window and I sat on the very comfy couch.
Our waitress was excellent and very attentive from the moment we sat down. We ordered champagne and a bottle of wine as well as the crab and avocado tacos to start (yum!) We each had the Elk tenderloin chef creation for our entree which was absolutely amazing. I had the chocolate souffle for dessert and we each had coffee. The entire night was really nice and I would go back to this place in a second.
also forgot to mention that the wine list (or should I say, book) is great. There was so much choice that I had to let my boyfriend decide for me.
Good variety, nice ambience. We visited the Maple Leaf Grille for lunch, enjoying the creative touch they put on their entrees. Even a hamburger is a little special here (pear and cheese). We also enjoyed the game pizza. They had an excellent wine list and the dinner staff was arriving early for a wine tasting - indicating that they care about the knowledge of their staff.

We're in Banff, people! Ah... Finally.... We can straighten our hunched backs and uncurl our toes, stretch those arms upwards, breath in the fresh mountain air and absorb the breathtaking vista. We love it so much, rather than spending an express couple of days, we're staying for a whopping 5 days to explore the Banff - Lake Louise area. When we got to Banff it was already quite late, but we didn't want to waste the night, so we decided to squeeze in the time for a soak in the Banff Upper Hot Springs instead. What better way to unwind than to let our muscles relax, and have our worries melt away in the 40°C natural mineral water. Listening to the wind rustle between the pine trees. Bliss...... I slept really well that night. Before said well-deserved rest, we had a pricey dinner first at the Maple Leaf. I ordered for myself a whopping 18oz beast of a steak. The rib-eye was juicy and pink in the middle, I can tell it was well rested as the blood didn't spill out when I cut into the meat
The salmon dish was amazingly good. Surprisingly, the noodles were chilled, but together with the crispy (breadcrumbed and fried) salmon and the fresh ginger slices, the dish was refreshing and satisfying.
Really good food. The surf and turf platter for 2 is a fantastic deal. Servers are pleasant and efficient. Tables are a bit small for the amount of food we order but probably good for most people. They have a very nice private dining room upstairs for a medium sized group, looks good for approx 8 to 12 people. Not sure of their booking rules or pricing for it though. Cocktails are solid and strong. Desserts are delicious.
My husband and I came here for our Anniversary dinner while in Banff. Service and food were incredible ! Jason was a very knowledgeable friendly server and was so quick to have our drinks filled and plates taken away. We had fresh oysters to try for our first time and they were great! We then had mussels and they were also delicious. My husband and I both had the salmon for our entree and it was the best salmon we have ever had ! Cooked perfect! We finished off with dessert which was the perfect amount of chocolate goodness ! We would love to come back next time we are in Banff celebrating a special occasion !
We liked brunch so much at the maple leaf, we went a few times. The interior has a ski lodge atmosphere. Seating indoors or patio. The food was really good at a reasonable price. The staff was fast,friendly and upbeat. I would recommend this place for a great brunch.
Amazing brunch! I got the French toast and it was to die for. The slices of bread were so thick and soft. My fiancé got the farmer’s breakfast and he loved it. Especially the rye bread with homemade jam. We left satisfied and stuffed!
The service was great too. We had planned to go to the restaurant across the street but when we found out there was a 40 minute wait we decided to try the maple leaf and we have no regrets!
We had a larger group and enjoyed the Taste for Adventure special menu at The Maple Leaf. Though the soup we had was a little under seasoned, that would be our only minor reservation of an otherwise outstanding dining experience in Banff! The portion sizes were incredibly generous, the Bison short rib entree was a huge hit (deliciously tender, seasoned to perfection and accompanied with a wealth of delicious side dishes), the risotto was rich and creamy… and even the desserts (which we barely had room for), were presented beautifully and big enough to share if you’d like. Thank you for an amazing meal!
We made reservations to have a romantic meal here during our Valentines trip to Banff. We made the reservations a month or so in advance. The Maple Leaf did not disappoint at all. The entire experience was incredible.
As soon as we arrived we were very politely welcomed and shown to our table on the second floor. They had reserved us a window table with a great view.
Once seated we met our server Jackie. She was friendly and knowledge, and really made it easy to choose our menu. She didn't rush us in anyway. Once we decided on the Surf & Turf for 2, she was incredibly helpful picking out a wine to accompany the meal. She took into account our preferences and meal choice and picked and absolute gem for us. Overall the service was perfect.
Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The atmosphere is wonderful. The entire experience really did make it the special event we were hoping it would be. Thank you to everyone at the Maple Leaf and Jackie in particular.
We ordered the mussels and Caesar salad for appetizers and 3 seafood linguini for main. Among 2 adults and 1 kid, we were glad that we had ordered the appies. But all dishes were delicious! We'd go back.
