Review Farmer's Family Dinner - Aylesford

Absolute awesome local diner. The most reasonable prices I have seen outside of Halifax. $6.50 for a kids dinner plate with juice box and full size ice cream sandwich at the end. Adult meals are just amazing with healthy portions and absolutely delicious. Staff seem like family and are the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Paid less than $100 to feed ten of us. Left a healthy tip for this awesome local business! 🙂

We hadn't been to Farmers in around six years, as we had moved away, but we took a friend out with us today and we all enjoyed our various meals. I had the sweet and sour meatballs, and the others had the roast pork dinner special and the big double cheeseburger, which was super thick; she actually only ate it with one patty. Hubby had the lemon meringue pie, which he really enjoyed, and he is quite picky when it comes to whether it is properly balanced between sweet and sour. I had the fudge, which was perfect in my mind. We sat out in the back room facing the farm today, which was quieter than the other area and very bright. Both servers were wonderful and friendly and very "down-home hospitable". We always enjoyed eating here before and loved the homemade bread. We were given a bread bowl with three rolls and I believe one was whole wheat and the others were white and brown, so we split them so we could try everything. They were nice and fresh and really tasty like the buns our mothers used to make. We will definitely be back!

I've come back to this place a few times over the years, this time around I decided to get a Roast Beef Sandwich with Lettuce and Mayo and fries as a side. The bread was more stiff, meaning it's definitely homemade and definitely more tasty than the stuff you typically find at the grocery store for example. Fries aren't salty although i can give the restaurant some slack for this because it's local and around the farm. I was indeed filled, however some may find the flies that always seem to be around here a bit of a turn-off for appetite, so I'll give it a 4/5.

Wow talk about a home cooked meal! Have been doing keto for 4 months and lost 72 lbs oh, and was deciding to take a break oh, boy was I happy I picked this place to do it, LOL! That food was delish! The burger was no lightweight quarter pound Patty this had to be a 1/2 pound ground round cooked perfectly with fried onions gravy and homemade bread oh, OMG I was in heaven! Homemade gravy oh, and a side of onion rings, does life get any better! Well worth the drive! The ladies who run the place do a fantastic job taking care of the customers! Plenty of seating well spaced out masks were in use until seated hand sanitizer at the door all precautions were used! Love this place will be back for sure!

Great tasting, Generous portions, homemade pies! Cozy atmosphere. Little off beaten path but don't let the simplicity of the outside fool you. Definitely recommend. Nice for a stop after a wknd drive.

Really quick service and the food was quick and hot. Great servings as well. Here is the one piece fish and chips and the club sandwich.

This diner is reminiscent of a family diner that is stuck in time in the year 1996. It's "sunroom" may have been a sunroom 26 years ago however the spruce and pine trees hinder any sunlight from entering. The high-chair we were provided had sticky ketchup on it, was dirty and we had to wipe the tray down beforehand. Our sons' grilled cheese sandwich tasted like chemicals because it had the weirdest taste and left our tongues feeling like they were coated in residue. My wife's fries tasted like they were fried in very old oil and had no crispness to them. The one reason why Farmer's Family Diner is getting two stars instead of one, is because my fish cakes and beans were delicious. I would actually order that again- but for takeout. The service was good, and it was evident that they try their best, but my $65 could have been better spent elsewhere.

We had a great lunch at the Farmer's Family Diner. Local meat, home made bread and a great selection. I had the hot hamburger with fries, my boyfriend had the whistle dog and poutine and the kids had hamburger and fries. The hot hamburger was amazing, fresh local beef was amazing and the gravy was delicious. Great place for the family and an excellent stop on your way to or from Oaklawn Farm Zoo. The food was a big hit for the entire family. Everytime we visit the zoo we are sure to stop in for some home away from home cooking. The owners/workers are beyond nice and make you feel almost like family.

While the food was very good the service was terrible. We waited an hour and a half for a meal with 4 others tables being served... so they were not overly busy. In the end after eating and waiting again, we had to request our dessert be served and the bill tallied so we could leave. The waitress did not attend to our needs, not even to follow up with us when the meals finally did arrive. Our water glasses sat empty and cold drinks were not brought to the table until we asked about them... at least 20minutes after ordering. We were a table with 4 adults and three kids under 5. While we waited wth empty water glasses and unattended to needs, other tables were immediately served. Others were offered baskets of fresh rolls. If service is over an hour for meal delivery, a basket of rolls brought to the table, with an update and explanation as to the delay, would go along way. Regulars who came in after we did were treated like family and upcoming events were talked about while the other guests went unattended to. I would recommend this place to others if it were only a matter of food. However, the poor impersonal service and the way we felt like intruders would have me recommend those who are not regulars move on to another restaurant where your business will be welcomed and appreciated.

We visited this restaurant last evening, the food was delicious but the service very poor. It was an hour and a half wait for our food while a party of 8 adults that came in after us were served and finished their meal before we even received ours, as well as a couple which came in 20 minutes after us were finished and gone before ours came. If you were not a regular it was clear your service was put on the back burner. We had to ask for our drinks as well as desert and bills. No one checked on us to see how our meals were and the server was chewing gum! Also, servers should not handle the rims of the glasses where people will be drinking from. We had a 3 hour drive home and did not expect a stop at a restaurant which was not busy at all to take over two hours.

we drove from Meadowvale to Aylesford to try this restaurant last night. I wasn't going to because of the situation last year where they wouldn't allow a child with a feeding tube to plug in her machine. But after listening to people talk about the food, changed my mind. We walked in and ordered at 425 pm. We waited.... waited some more....... and again...waited.... no waitress was coming , no food. At 535 pm , I stopped our waitress and asked where the food was. Her response was that they were having fryer issues. OK. .well why not explain this to patrons and allow them to decide if they want to wait or not. Not even the warm rolls were set on our table. She didn't apologize nothing just continued walking to the other customer. I stewed and had been for a bit... Forget it...no club sandwich is gonna be good enough to make up for that kind of wait. Let's go! I decided to take my family elsewhere to eat and stopped at the counter to pay for the drinks we ordered. Waitress comes out of kitchen... says they are just dropping your food now. Drop it in the garbage I am leaving was my response. She goes back in the kitchen and leaves me standing at the counter for another 5 minutes before coming out and again without an apology says The owner said don't worry about your drinks.... when working in the service industry doing tables... 1-- greet your customers like you care they are there, smile a little. this Waitress looked like she hated her job and we were an anoyance. 2-- when someone orders milk with their meal, bring it with the food not when it's ordered unless they ask, so it doesn't get warmer then when it was brought out...yuck! 3-- the owner of this diner should have come out and apologized themseves , but in any case... the Waitress should have at least said I'm sorry once. I will never never go back to this establishment!

Had supper here today. Had the fish and chips. By far the best meal I've had in a very long time. I will definitely be back!

Absolutely fabulous food! Portions are huge .... you certainly get your money's worth whenever you eat at Farmer's Family Diner. It should actually be called Farmer's Friendly Fabulous Family Diner!

We always have a wonderful time there. The people that work there are always the best. My grandson had the most wonderful meal hanging with his Papa, his great uncle Dave, and his great grampy. It’s all about family.

Love it there , the food is awesome , along with the prices and service. Their homemade bread / rolls is delicious ... soo good , yum ! Just wished they were closer ( I live in Yarmouth ) , but an excellent place to go after visiting the zoo . A good place to take the family for some good home cooked food .

The service and food have gone downhill since the last time my husband and I were here. Half of my food was cold and I had to ask for my roll that was to accompany my meal. When we were done I sat and sat waiting for the bill to arrive while watching other customers being served. Needless to say there was no tip and I doubt we will be going back.
