Review Beryl's Pepper Pot - Ajax

My first time here. Here's my take. Location: not the greatest, hidden with no street sign so you can't find it unless you use Google maps. Food:👌🏽I got the "curry goat with rice and peas". just the right amount of spice, gravy and portion. BRAVO 👏🏼 👏🏼 Customer Service: Yikes!! Why is it that every Caribbean restaurant or Caribbean server acts like they don't want you there. Seriously, take a course in Customer service. Your businesses would boom. Please cut the attitude. It looks bad on our race. I know I probably shouldn't be saying this because not all black-run businesses operate like that. But someone has got to say it. On a positive note. I do suggest checking the place out because the food is bomb.

If you're in the East end of the city/Durham region? Look no further for fresh, well seasoned and NO attitude customer service....Well, let me tell you about Beryls. It's located in what appears as an industrial area, but it's very clean inside/modern. No area to sit in and eat was observed, but a stand up counter area was available....BUT, with all the goodness you won't need to sit.....You'll be dancing as you enjoy their many Jamaican options. I ordered the oxtail and they definetly didn't skimp me...Meaty pieces and well tasty and creamy coleslaw. It definetly had me dancing as I ate in happiness.

This was my first time coming to this spot, they have good flavor and seemed fresh. The rice could use some help, needs some more flavor, but we come for the chicken. We ordered jerk chicken and for Ajax it was ok. We have to ask before ordering to put oxtail gravy or else you will miss it. There is extra charge for oxtail heavy and could not tell the difference. It was a good experience. Prices are reasonable and they will fill you up.

Food is delicious and reasonably priced considering other takeout. I would say the oxtail is a bit boney they could cut it differently or get a different supplier. One negative is they usually do not have everything on the menu,I’m not I’m sure if the time you come plays a role (I’ve been there weekday evening and weekend afternoons). They usually have staples like jerk chicken/pork but I’ve been there and there’s no oxtail or goat. The food is good so it’s probably selling out so maybe try to come early ! The food itself is authentic, every time I go there’s a line I don’t mind waiting as the cashiers are very friendly !!

The absolute BEST jerk chicken in Durham Region. I miss when they had a location in Oshawa as it was less of a drive however the food is worth it. Staff are always so happy and friendly, the food is on point and I leave with a full belly and a big smile.

I ordered a large oxtail with rice and peas the taste was pretty good, I couldn’t eat over half the oxtail cause it was tough like a rock so that was disappointing. My hubby got the curry goat and said it was good. Only suggestion is too cook the oxtail way longer cause it wasn’t edible.

Was feeling rundown and wanted soup. Luckily, Beryl's soup special was chicken and pumpkin :). The staff were courteous and the soup really hit the spot! I usually order stew chicken. I am so glad I tried the soup.

I was introduced to Beryl’s by a coworker and is now my go to place to go! Their lunch specials are delicious and filling and are at a great price! The service is warm and welcoming <3
