The place itself is very nice and clean, it is well put together as well with fast service. The sushi overall was okay as was the noodles & rice and the desserts we ordered tasted a bit funky. Also pricey!! There was a 15% service charge for every person which added up at the end to a lot. It would be nice to see a smile on the employees faces, service is important especially when dining in. I recommend trying the shrimp tempura though.

Love Makimono. Haven’t been back since the pandemic and the food tastes the exact same. Friendly staff always!, great fresh food. $28.99 for all you can eat lunch. Got a lychee slushy bubble tea for 4.50. Was so good!

Great sushi spot. Quality and taste of food is among the better sushi restaurants I've ate at. Ingredients taste fresh and food is presented well. Staff are also kind and attentive. My only criticism is that the price for All-You-Can-Eat is a little expensive in my opinion. I was able to order 5 dishes, split between 2 people for $65 (after tax and tip / $32.50 each), and both of us were satisfied.

I come here often and it's a nice dining experience every time, with good lighting, polite staff, and beautiful plating! There is sometimes a bit of a wait for your dish as they prepare it but that leaves room for conversation! I find that the food is more well put together and fresher than other places too. Makimono is very consistent across locations. Definitely recommended!❤️

Ok, I live in Ajax and am not expecting great Japanese food, but this place was beyond terrible to say the least. First of all, when I ordered the take out, there was detergent smell all over the place. which was from the soup and Maki. Kani salad was watery, they actually uses cooked salmon on their roll. The most hideous one is the chicken karage which is pretty much rock solid fried dough.

Bit pricy for the quality of food we received. The hot and Spicy Chicken Dinner I ordered had very little chicken in it. Wasn't filling at all. Sushi was decent but not amazing. Patio was nice and service was really friendly.

Friday all you can eat lunch was a great experience for us. The dishes were tasty and fresh. There was no waiting, booths were clean and the staff was friendly. The robot servers stole the show and brought a smile to all of us. All in all a great experience!

I went for dinner with a friend last night at 7:30pm at the BOWMANVILLE location. The service was initially fine, and the food was good, but about 45 minutes into our visit we were being pushed out the door. The waitress was talking our plates with sushi still remaining on them. She then started furiously sweeping around our table like the floor was on fire, and speaking loudly to the other staff about how her shift was finally over. She was at our table asking us if we were okay every 3 minutes and then asked me if I could get up and move my chair so she could roll up the mat from under me. The strong smell of cigarettes on a waitress is also quite unappetizing. At this point we were getting annoyed. She then asked if we wanted separate bills before we even confirmed that we were finished. I would have loved a green tea, but was not given the opportunity. The breaking point was when she informed me that they did not accept debit and asked me to use the extremely slow ATM machine so she could close her till while I was taking a bite of food. She apologized for rushing us out, but it was 9:04pm. They do not close until 10pm. It was a terrible dining experience, and such a disappointment.

Worst experience ever! I have been going to Makimono for 7 + years. I recently had gastric bypass and have been able to eat for the child's price at other locations (owned by same people) and they flat out refused me in a rude and condescending tone. We agreed to stay and asked for a highchair for my 22 month old... the highchair was broken and unsafe. We asked for their only other chair which we were told they were both broken and then our server laughed. And to top it all off while I was breaking the pieces of beef up for my 22 month old into chewable pieces with my fingers I was repeatedly told I wasn't allowed to eat it as I ordered a bento box. I informed the manager that I Can't even eat red meat at this stage and I was just breaking it up for my baby and the manager told me no. Are you kidding me? I had to have other members of my family switch seats with me to feed my son who constantly screamed because he wanted me. Drinks never came, food was cold, shrimp was rubbery and the bills took over 15 minutes to come and were wrong 3 times. Never again will I ever go to this restaurant and it really is disappointing as I've been going with my family for 7 years.

Not only were they rude and inconsiderate, they were very judgemental and just pain "jerks" (I'd use another word... but I have some class!) They lost a whole lot of business today... good for you! I agree, MAKIMONO has had some issues in one of their locations in the past, but has since revamped its staff and the food is great and the service is friendly. Def try again if you have only gone in the past.

I went for the second time to this restaurant in Ajax tonight. The first time, the food was unappetizing, thought maybe it was just a bad night. But once agin tonight, the food was flavourless and the meat (chicken and beef) dry, tough and with no flavour. Very disappointed and definitely will NOT be bringing my business back here.

This place was recommended to me by my aunt who had a great experience with her family there so my family booked a reservation this past Easter Sunday and tbh, I wasn't really impressed by the service. We asked literally 3 or 4 times for forks and we ended up eating with our hands because not all of us are proficient with chopsticks, which is pretty gross. Also, not all of our orders came in (i.e. miso soup) because we assumed that there would be at least a queue to have an idea of when to expect our food to come in. Again, we had to repeatedly ask the server to bring the food we were still missing from our order. Lastly, the worst part about this experience is that the server literally pushed the bill onto us, yet we were still ordering more food and I noticed she sorta had a terrible attitude near the end of our time there. Honestly the food was good, but the service was MEDIOCRE! As a future suggestion, the ipads should be equipped with a timer of when the food items will be served to that table and the service should be based on a first order in, first order out basis. Please improve the service cause I really want to go eat there again!

Food was great ! Fast service. We would go again! We booked our reservation online and didn't have to wait for a table. Friendly staff. The short ribs were amazing ! So are the soup dumplings. I would suggest the mango pudding desert.

Worst experience in a Japanese Restaurant ever. Will not recommend. People from Ajax, just take 15 minutes and drive into Scarborough, you will get much better service and quality of food. I ordered Delux Sashimi, which should be served with rice, and it came without the rice, when I asked the waitress, her answer was "I don't know"! Then who should know?! And the sashimi did not come until my husband and son finished their bento boxes.

Way over priced. Food wasn't that great. Didn't taste fresh ... they don't take debit yet credit cards which is extremely annoying .. and the soya sauce it's defiantly not kakimono. Taste off way different ... was a waste of 50$ for lunch.

We have been coming to this restaurant (Pickering location) for over 3 years, every Saturday as a family. Without any exaggeration, we spend over $100 every week at this restaurant. We have greatly enjoyed coming here; that is, until last night. We were approached by one of the staff, Jenny, who told us she had four tables complaining about our twin babies making too much noise. As we were packing up to LEAVE, Jenny returned to reiterate that four tables were complaining about our babies and that we should “handle it”. We asked her what she would like us to do about it as they are just babies and cannot reason. She said that we are the parents and they are our responsibility. Another staff member, Anna, came out quickly to intervene, but as Jenny left she shouted to us: “Shame on you!” This is unfortunate as we have become familiar with many of the staff there and have always enjoyed seeing them during our weekly visits (Anna, Curtis, Andre, Tiffany and even Lily before she was relocated). As parents, we are not trying to ruin other customers’ dining experience. We ensure that our babies are in their seats at all times. We do not feel that it was appropriate for Jenny to pass judgement on our parenting skills. For your information, my husband and I are both teachers and we understand how to “handle” children. Babies, on the other hand, (as we tried to explain to Jenny) simply do not have the ability to reason and, therefore, would not understand about being “quiet”. Anna was very apologetic and said that she’s never heard any complaints about our babies over the past year they’ve been going there and that it was only two tables of seniors, this ONE time. I stated that this is a family restaurant, not fine dining, and that as such, other patrons should understand that there might be some unwanted noise. This situation was completely mishandled by Jenny who, for the sake of new customers, who may or may not return to the restaurant, upset a group of very loyal customers who will never return.

Can't believe that the music they were playing was inappropriate as there was swearing. I had my 4 year old with me. When my husband told them about the swearing, the response was we can turn it down. Turning it down doesn't change the fact that there is still swearing in the song or what ever playlist they had going. Another song comes on with more swearing. I go to the lady again telling her to change the playlist because turning it down doesn't change the fact that there is SWEARING in the song. She said she was working on it, the fact that there was no priority on it tells me they didn't care to take us seriously. Some of our food came and we just left. It was ridiculous that we had to bring it to their attention twice. Very disappointing as we go there on a regular. Now I don't think I'll ever return.

I ordered a california spicy roll and the crabmeat was still completely wrapped in plastic!!!! Very unhygienic, choking hazard and just plain gross! Will never be eating here again!

Impossible not to come to canada and not have lunch/dinner there. <br/>All you can eat ( like really all) for a very very affordable price i guess 17$ during lunch and dinner its 25$ or a bit more cant remember but still, its extremely cheap for a all you can eat japanese food. <br/>They have a bit variety of shushi’s, sashimis, handrolls, yakisoba, soups, dessert, the drinks are refill!!! And yhe food is fresh and tasty!!!! ♥️

Worst service ever! I ordered the grilled mussels and attempted to eat one and got the worst burn my fingers have ever felt. They were placed directly in front of my 8 month old who was sitting in a high chair at the table. No warning or anything! If it was my son that got burnt, I would have probably lost my mind! I told them what happened and they just looked at me and said nothing. It hurt so bad I had to ask for ice afterward because I couldn’t bear the stinging. It completely ruined my meal. Like I told them, I swear that mussel shell was the hottest thing I’ve ever touched in my entire life! Seriously! I will NEVER return.

We won’t be back. $27.99 is far too steep for low quality food for one on a Tuesday night. My husband had the all u can eat and not being too hungry, I ordered a la carte. STRIKE 1: We were told by 2 different staff members that we could not share the all u can eat. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being treated like a child or a thief when I go out. STRIKE 2: Having ordered from the tablet, He started getting all his food before someone even took my order. I had to flag someone down. STRIKE 3: you have to pay for refills if you order a la carte. So, basically you are punished for not having the all u can eat. STRIKE 4: The general Tao Chicken is more batter than chicken. <br/>Nice decor. That is all.

This restaurant used to be one of my favourite sushi places, but after the last few visits recently, I would never return again. The food is bland, not well made, not fresh nor tasty. There appears to be no effort put into making the food. The sushi rolls are sloppy and not pleasant-looking. The service is unwelcoming and unfriendly. Unfortunately, I would not give this place another chance. It's not worth the price.

Don't bother with take out that's for sure!. Stopped ordering from them last year as they never could get an order correct. very bad communication between people answering phones and their kitchen.<br/>The last straw was when we placed an order for delivery and they thought it was for pick up. They called us over an hour later telling us that our order was ready. Needless to say, I wasn't paying for food that was sitting and waiting for an hour. Found a new place with better service.

Just OK. I usually go to Makimono at Pickering location. My friend and I just stop by Ajax location to have dinner there. Service not quite good, smaller place and food just ok if compare with the one in Pickering.

I RECCOMEND DO NOT EAT HERE we just went new years eve and had been before however this place has changed. The Tuna comes only in rolls or sushi and was an off brownish color hidden by the rice, it seemed spoiled actually rotten, the deep fried "scallops" are a dough covered processed piece of fish by products = CRAP BULK BOUGHT GARBAGE IMMITATIION SCALLOPS COVERED IN BATTER TO FOOL YOU ? WHAT A JOKE, the pepper beef seemed to taste very dry almost like canned meat and was served cold. The serving dishes where covered in dirty finger prints not properly cleaned but they don't care it seems. For fun tried lemon Chicken which was a couple of 3 inch thick pieces but was 90% fried dough SATURATED IN FAT and a tiny pencil size piece of chicken. So at end of the night we got violently ill from the food and or bacteria on the plates from this place and would never recommend this place. And its not a sashimi place the variety of sashimi is a joke The sashimi is limited to salmon and other very cheap varieties and after spending $80.00 we both had violent stomach upset before the bill was even paid and for, and hours of illness later at home, and a ruined new years eve. Terrible service. Went there a while ago. Got seated and after 10 minutes of waiting; no one even came to ask if we were ready to order. We had the paper filled out and ready. The restaurant wasn't even half full. <br/>Two waitresses were just walking around. There was a couple on a table next to us who were waiting to have their second order picked up and were waiting as well. <br/>After 10 minutes, we just got up and left. The comment from the other couple next to us was "smart decision". I'm sure if they hadn't already gotten their first order like us, they would have left too.<br/><br/>Went to Sushi Mountain instead. Service and food is amazing. Our order got picked up in less than 2 minutes and food was ready in another 3-4 minutes.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I have given this place many chances. It is a hit and miss with the service, the staff can barely speak english and always ask like they are doing you a favour. The service had gotten slightly better with the manager walking around and asking if everything was to your liking however, he needs to do something about the rude waitresses he hires or have some feedback from the customers. I waited 15 min before I asked the waitress about my order and in a very aggressive manner she asked, "well what flavour?". After she brought the ice cream I told her we were still missing the shrimp tempura to which she replied, "You just ordered it." I calmly told her we had ordered it beforehand and it didn't make sense for our dessert to arrive first, I told her to cancel the order and she stormed off. After, she started speaking in Chinese loudly to another waitress and they both were looking at us. I found this to be very rude and disrespectful, how do they hire these people?<br/><br/>Anyways, the shrimp tempura arrived when we finished our dessert and I told them we had cancelled the order. The place has some serious communication issues and problems with rude staff. Even though the food is good, the manager and owner need to hire more pleasant people or else it will drive customers away to other restaurants. T&T sushi and Sushi Mountain are great options where the staff is welcoming, friendly and eager to please.

Great Food.... I find this to be a great sushi place. I've been to this place several times for lunch and will continue to go. In regards to the service... well having travelled to three seperate Asian countries and having notoriously dined at Dragon Center in Scarborough, I have established a different benchmark for service at authentic Asian restaurants. Needless to say, I recommend this place.

Hate this place. I've been to the Pickering location on a few occasions and I'm always disappointed at the service. I always feel ignored and the wait for the food is always extremely long. The staff will walk right by you even if you're standing, shouting and waving to get their attention. I much prefer Sushi Mountain and Edamame Sushi.

Fresh Sushi. Makimono is by far my go to sushi place. The ajax & pickering location always has french sashimi & maki rolls. The all you can eat is a bit pricey but for great food it is worth it. It is also the only place I can find a Salmon Tempura roll! Great lunch options as well!

We had a very large group and I wasn't sure they would be able to accommodate us. After some table shuffling, they were able to fit us in. Service was quite slow at first but once it got started it was great. Food was very good and fresh. Bento boxes were very filling and AYCE menu had great choices. The owner even came out and treated the kids in our group to ice cream.

Been here a number of times and have always had pleasant experiences. Lunch specials are good quality at very reasonable prices. Dinner buffets have limited selections but the quality was good. Overall a nice little restaurant.

Horrible, Rude Service at Makimono in Ajax!. I did research for this one and I was highly let down. I went online to look up a place close to or in Ajax for me to take my girlfriend out for Sushi at. My gf and I just had our first child and this was our first time out in a while. They close at 10:30pm. We got there at 9:30pm. That is more than enough time for a meal (all you can eat). From the time we walked in, you could see they were ready to close for the night. There was nobody there sitting in the place. Our waitress comes to our table with this attitude like us being there really bothers her. We then had some questions regarding portions, and our server went on to say we don't want those items and the all you can eat buffet is for only 1 of each. I knew that was a lie. We continued to get the items we wanted regardless, and as soon as I said "we would like to see a manager" she ignored me and simply proceeded to get out food items that we selected. Very weird. She brings it out, never replied to any of my thank-yous, was very rude still, and acted lke each food item we continued to order was coming out of her paycheck. <br/><br/>Being my girlfriends and mine, first time out in a while I think we did a fantastic job of ignoring how rude the service was here and have fun regardless...or at least try to.<br/><br/>We decided to go out and have a cigarette outside, we informed our waitress of this, she nods to understand, We are standing outside and this other woman runs out and says "Where are you going"! IN A VERY RUDE WAY. We were shocked by this. We went back in, <br/><br/>They demanded we pay our bill at like 10:15pm when they close at 10;30pm. We agreed to. The wait staff then left right away an the left some cook guy behind. We still had our soup and drinks left over. We had already told them that we are not interested in orderinng anymore food. The guy that was siting there watching us finish our drink and soup then stands up at 10:35pm and tells us we have to leave they are closing. I couldnt beleive this guy was sitting there watching us, and he had the nerve to standup, walk to our table and tell us we had to go. 5 minutes after they close. <br/><br/>All in all, food quality was fresh and good. the service stunk. We felt rushed and we felt like we were being treated poorly because we got there a full hour before they close. <br/><br/>I will never recommend Makimono Ajax to anyone. The service stinks.

Best sushi in Canada, seriously. Nobody can beat these guys for their Japanese food. <br/>we've gone to fancy places in downtown TO and they still cannot compare to overall quality and freshness.<br/><br/>although the folks there are nice, the service at this location is bad when it's busy, but the food is that good that you don't mind.<br/><br/>The Pickering location is BAD though (staff, food quality, freshness). Just go to the Ajax location.

Great place, wide variety of options, from sushi rolls to teriyaki and everything in between. Fast service (as long as it's not packed) and an exceptionally friendly staff. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Great for a group meal or a quick snack. Overall, best sushi place in Ajax by far.
