Review Oriental Village - Abbotsford

Order three different vegetarian items. Mushroom chop suey broccoli with garlic sauce and spicy tofu. 2 look the same n tastes the same and 1's got meat. Guess I'll be getting my semi raw broccoli fill for the year.

My family and I stumbled upon Oriental Village when our typical go-to Chinese restaurant was closed and let me say, I am very thankful we did! The food was delivered by a very friendly young man and arrived very hot. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes and the value of the food. Our surprise only grew when we took our first bites and were blown away by the freshness and flavour. The sweet and sour boneless pork was hands down the best I've ever had, the beef chow fan (rice noodles) were so flavourful, the beef in the beef and broccoli was super tender and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. The chicken balls were not at all greasy as you often find, and the sweet and sour sauce wasn't too sweet, allowing the sourness to come through and accent the dishes. The egg foo yong was so juicy and full of vegetables. Lastly the beef and tomato fried rice was everything it should be. A huge thank you to the entire staff at Oriental Village for providing us with what I could confidently say is the best Chinese food I've had in Abbotsford. We will DEFINITELY be back!

Highly recommend. We typically order from Bamboo Palace or Jasmine Garden... both were closed for holidays... glad they were. Have always wanted to try Oriental Village. Fantastic food, carefully prepared, large portions. Best Chinese food we've had in a very long time. Friendly delivery driver. Defintely our new go-to. Thank you!

I normally order from Bamboo Palace but they were closed for holidays. So we ordered from the Oriental Village, the food was amazing. It wasn't greasy or over cooked. We will be ordering again from them

The food is good but we were made to wait over 45 minutes over the specified wait time for pick up. I understand that delays happen but I would like to be warned as such so I can make a allowances and order somewhere else.

(TL;DR 3 stars due to concerns raised and being confronted when bringing those concerns to staff. Avoid the shrimp dishes for a bit.) Normally our go-to place. The last time we ordered, the shrimp dish was over cooked and had a really bad aftertaste. The after taste wasn't spices as we normally love this meal - but something definitely wasn't right. A staff member argued with us that the dish was just "not our taste" and we should try other things. But, we have had this dish before from them and enjoyed it. Something was definitely "off" with the shrimp and the casual dismissal of my concerns was off putting as, you know, bad seafood is a worry. I would definitely recommend their food. However, I would avoid their shrimp/seafood dishes for a while.

October 10th, 2021, Ordered from OV for my wife's birthday, we are so glad we did. David is very nice to deal with and the food quality is top notch. Everything was well thought out and you can tell they cook with a lot of love and pride. The packaging for take out was perfect nothing leaking and everything cared for so when we arrived home the food was still hot and there were no issues. Peking duck is quality and the accompanying garnishes were fresh and tasty. Nov 7th, 2021 we ordered again and once again top notch consistent quality and service, Our go to place here on out. Looking forward to trying more of the menu. Thank you Oriental Village.

This was the first time we ordered from Oriental Village on Gladwin. We were very impressed with the food quality. Tasted awesome. Lots of food. Order was ready right on time. Staff very friendly. The only regret I have is that I didn’t give as much of a tip as I wish I had. There is always next time!!

Decent place to have a Chinese dinner or take out. The portions are good and the taste is okayish. Would recommend for a quick delivery. You could add sauces to make it more spicy as needed.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! We moved here 4 months ago and have eaten from here on average twice a week since. It WAS our favorite restaurant, but I do not plan on ever going back. Here is why.

We ordered two ginger beef combination lunches along with a lot of other things. I thought everything was as it normally is and was nearly done with lunch until I ate their noodles and bit into something so hot, it literally made me throw it my entire meal. My husband (who loves spicy food) laughed at me because admittedly I like mild spice and he immediately spits out his first bite. I have been laying in bed sick all day and hubby hasn't been much better.

He finally decided to call and let them know though that is something we rarely do and the manager was a complete and total arse!! He said, "what do you want me to do about it" quite rudely. Then manager said he would talk to cook... cook, of course, says he has been cooking it the same all day... *eye roll* and manager proceeds to say, "nothing I can do about it... that is just how we make it". WELL MANAGER, We have ordered this countless times in the past four months and I assure you, it is NOT the way you usually make it!! The two meals were different... One with lots of these horrible ghost peppers and the other with none. Taste was completely off. I hope the owner (if other than you) realizes your horrible rudeness. My husband is bringing it back to you now so you can see the difference yourself. Please keep your food... I don't enjoy throwing up my meals, lying sick in bed all day because of YOUR mistake and then being basically called a liar.

Slow service and terrible food.. The sweet and sour pork had a bad aftertaste like they were using old oil. It took over an hour for a meal for 2 to arrive at my door and the price of the meal went up by $3 since the last time I ordered from them. Very dissapointing. Will not order from them again.

Fantastic!!. We came in for dinner, it's small and quaint, we were seated quickly and had orders taken immediately. I ordered the deep fried crab claws and they were simply phenomenal. I know that is a bold word, but really, it is the best way to describe these things. I think about them almost every day. I definitely will be ordering those again!!!

Terrible. I use urban spoon regularly to find restaurants. Read reviews and gave it a shot. Next to the very worst chinese I have ever had. We ate it anyway because we were starving, but never again. The only think decent tasting was the shanghai noodles. The sweet and sour was just sour, the szechuan beef had a very funky taste, like dust. The chicken corn soup was absolutely tasteless and slimey, like water with corn syrup...... Would never recommend.

Amazing squid!!. I am not normally one to write a review, but this one is worth writing about in my opinion... We came in for dinner and thought we would try something different from the regular Chinese food we would order (Chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork, chop suey). We decided to order a variety of things, but one that I really want to comment about was the Spicy Squid with Pepper Salt.... WOW! It was sooooo delicious, never had anything quite like that before. We've already been coming here, but now I have another item that I will regularly be ordering.

Just ordered for the first time and it was excellent. From the rice to the prawns we enjoyed it thoroughly. We will definatley order again.

Different Style!. I came to Oriental Village for my first time this last week and we ordered chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork and chicken fried rice for the table to share. The chicken fried rice was good and it was what I expected. It was the chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork that took me by surprise. Although everyone at the table enjoyed all the dishes as well, we couldn't figure out what was so different about these two dishes in comparison to other Chinese food restaurants we'd been to. We asked the waitress, who then had the cook (maybe the manager too?) come out to our table and tell us that he actually cooks these two dishes differently than how it's traditionally done. He told us that normally other restaurants will cook the chicken chow mein in a lot of oil and therefore it's more moist and greasy. But he prefers to cook his dry, which we enjoyed a lot as well! Normally eating the greasy chicken chow mein will give me a stomachache after the meal, but not this time! Also, he told us that normally other restaurants will leave the pork soaking in the sweet and sour sauce and then the pork is more soft and soggy. Whereas at Oriental Village, they put the pork into the sauce right before serving it and the meat is tougher. Which again, we really really enjoyed! We will definitely be coming here again.

Also, one of the reviews below seems a little odd... The one who wrote in caps lock about how "putrid" the food was at this restaurant. She didn't even go into detail about what she had or what exactly was so "atrocious" about the food. How is that helpful at all?

Best Chinese cuisine in Abbotsford. Great value. We have been going here for years and have never had unfresh vegetables or unfresh food EVER as one writer claims. Always fresh and hot. We would highly recommend this restaurant. Their Wor wonton soup is great. And by the way the word one person spelled as "grows" is spelled "gross" and it does not in anyway apply to any food at this restaurant.

The WORST Chinese food In Abbotsford!!!!. I decided to stop by Oriental Village with my two kids one is 4 years and the other 15 months old.Anyway I was looking to get some soup so decided to go for Wor Wonton Soup so when I asked the waitress to explain what was in the soup she could not even give me an answer because I eat Wor Wonton Soup all the time and I wanted to know what kind did they have. So anyway since my kids are hungry I went for it and asked to add egg noodles for extra charge of course. I waited for my soup for a while and it finally comes and I have never seen that bad of a soup in my life. It had all of this extra stuff in it I didn't get it why and the veggies they put in there were DEFENETELY not FRESH at ALL,the wontons looked all yellow and looked like the were frozen previously..I was looking for my bok choy called the waitress to come over ans asked where is the bok choy so she started looking through my soup to find it and then shows me OHHH there it is looking nothing like bok choy leaves all yellow and grows!!! The service is absolutely terrible anyway the manager comes over and I asked to order something else because this soup does not look fresh at all I tried the broth was no flavor at all and the manager says to me I have to eat it now because it is gonna go to waste I was like what are you talking about this soup is disgusting and she wanted me to eat it. I said I am not paying for it unless I get a different soup and she says to me that I have TO LEAVE the restaurant and she wont be serving me so if i want to stay I have to eat the soup. Totally shocked by this customer service I was like ok I am leaving and NEVER coming back with my kids still hungry especially the little one and I Told her I am not coming ever back to her place and I am gonna make sure the whole Abbotsford knows how bad this place is.So I get up and leave and walk with the stroller all the way to Pho Noodle Vietnamese place and Have the best service and soup ever! Oriental Village not only overpriced but the quality of the food is BAD defenetely not worth paying for what you are getting there! Worst service worst food !!!! Don't go there better off going to Sevenoaks mall and get chinese food there it actually tastes better than Oriental Village!

Delicious. Staff is very friendly. They always seem to remember my order even if I haven't been in for months at a time. Food is always fast and delicious.

Best Chinese Food in Abbotsford. This is the best Chinese food restaurant in Abbotsford. It is so good, I won't eat anywhere else. Even when I'm out of town, I won't eat Chinese food anywhere else because nothing measures up to how good the food is at Oriental Village. SO GOOD!

Great Place and People. We have had delivery every week over four years from these wonderful people. We change or add-on to almost everything and they are so nice about all our special orders (they know us by now). They don't mind no salt on the BEST FRESH CHICKEN WINGS. They give us (yummy) GINGER BEEF without the hot sauce. We have many favoites on the menu. The people are great - we always chat a moment. Love this place!
Anna
Super LIKE. I like their food especially their Hot and sour soup which I ordered today. One of the best chinese restaurant.

Worst Chinese Food Ever!. We've been living in Abbotsford for a while and havebeen looking for a good chinese restaurant. Just the other night, we decided to order take out from Oriental Village. The food arrived in 10 minutes, which was extremely surprising. The delivery person was not very friendly and left the carry-out bag on the floor as he walked away after we paid via interac! The food was terrible. We ordered the chicken chow mein, which was bland and had a few tiny pieces of unappetizing chicken. The dry garlic pork was extremely tough, fatty and over-battered, and the Sze Chuan style ginger beef was not that at all! It was battered and coated with some sweet sauce, and extremely tough as well. I'm Chinese and tried to be forgiving of the food, my husband's not asian and he agreed that the food was terrible. Most of it landed in the garbage. We both agree that the food there is worse than the chinese food you get in food courts, and will never order from there again.

Best Chinese food in town!. I have only ordered delivery so I can't review the service or atmosphere of the restaurant, but they have probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. If you're ordering delivery, be sure to be very clear when telling them your address--some of their delivery folks get easily confused and drive around for a while before calling you for clarification on the directions.

Terrible food and even worse customer service!!!. We ordered from this place for the first time in Jan 2011 because they had interac at the door and our usual chinese (Bamboo Palace-best in Abby) didn't.

At $50 for a dinner for 4, it was the worst, most overpriced chinese food I have ever had. The veggies were mediocre, no flavor, the sweet and sour pork was inedible, and the chicken chow mein tasted spoiled (I suspect old chow mein was mixed with fresh, as some tasted all right and then I would suddenly get a bite that tasted 'off').
Sure enough, 2 out of 3 family members (who ate the chowmein) were sick that night.
Most of that dinner went in the garbage.

As I had never been so disappointed in ordered food, I made a point of going to the restaurant the next day to speak to the Manager/Owner? (something I have NEVER done in my life!). The man I spoke to told me nothing was wrong with the food, he had cooked it himself, and too bad that we were unhappy. Basically told me to pound sand. When I asked if this was how they usually dealt with an unhappy customer, he said it had never happened before. In the food service industry, this place has apparently NEVER had an unhappy customer. I call BS. Seriously, you have an unhappy customer, deal with it, rather than send them away disgusted...

Will NEVER go near this place again!!! Definitley NOT recommended!!!

This place is good. Havn't been here for a while but try the wonton soup. This is the place that has kick ass wontons, or is it the broth? Either way, gooood eats
